Alter the setting – Make sure that you dictate the power your AC runs at, at all times. If you are going out, then turn it to Low. Many of us turn the AC off, but the humidity and heat when you get back is going to be so high you will use more power putting the AC back on at a high setting to combat the new heat.
Energy saving – Try and cut back on the energy using equipment in the home like computers and light bulbs, or replace them with more energy efficient equivalents. Swap your light bulbs for fluorescent equivalents because they use less energy.
Insulation – Making sure you have insulation is important, because the hot air will be kept out by proper insulation. This means you will spend less energy keeping the hot air out.
Roofing – The quality of your roofing may be affecting your energy bills. Adding reflective covers onto your roof will help stop the heat from getting in, thus meaning you will be spending less money on AC usage.
Blinds and curtains – A good way of keeping hot air out is to have blinds and covers. This will stop the sunlight from getting in. This means that less heat will build up in the room itself, which in turn can help to keep your entire home cooler. This means that you will have to run the air conditioner for shorter stretches of time. Especially during the day and when you are out, close the windows and cover them to allow for containment of the hot air, leaving your room nice and cool and thus meaning you do not have to put the AC on as soon as you come home.
Table fans – These low energy-using fans are very good for keeping a room nice and cool. You should invest in a few of them and place them around your home. An energy-efficient fan will keep you cool. It also helps you because they sit on or in the table, meaning you can keep everyone around the table ventilated and cool. Power strip – Using a power strip can help you mitigate energy costs heavily. Even if not being used, any appliance attached to a power source is using energy, so lower energy output and unplug equipment that is not being used. Paying this much for college application advice is simply absurd, seeing as many students get into college for free of charge, minus the application fee of course. There are consultants out there that do not want an arm and a leg for their services and they typically have a large amount of experience.
Hiring a college consultant has become quite popular over the last few years. Students are constantly stressed out over the application process and they will always worry that they did not do enough to make themselves unique. In order to help them put their fears to rest, college consultants will take them through the entire process and tell them everything they need to do to keep their acceptance chances high. Always be sure to look for the certifications and experience level of a college consultant before hiring them, but it could be the very thing that gets a student accepted into their dream college.

Has your air conditioner been giving you problems of late? If so, many of those issues can be resolved with some easy DIY maintenance procedures. in the context of A/C repair, the ageless adage,"Keep it simple, stupid" has a lot of truth. Before calling a professional repair contractor, begin by addressing the problem yourself through a few basic steps to identify more common malfunctions.
First, make certain that your current air conditioner filter is clean. If cool air is not blowing as freely as usual and ice has accumulated on or about an outdoor or indoor A/C unit, shut off both unit and fan for 6 to 8 hours to melt the ice. Keep in mind that the visible buildup is just the "tip of the iceberg" that has built up inside ducts, coils, and/or evaporator. Thus, it takes several hours to give all ice inside the unit to thaw completely. Prior to turning the power back on, verify that all registers are fully open, the filter is clean, and that surrounding areas near return and supply registers are free of debris. Call a qualified A/C repair service if the system re-freezes. This could mean a freon deficiency. If the repair tech puts more freon into your system but cannot identify a leak, consider buying a "freon leak repair kit" online that is easy to use yourself.
Keeping all coils inside your air conditioner is an essential DIY maintenance task. Fortunately, it is also very easy to do. Simply spray all coils with a good coil cleaner. Then, allow the liquid to saturate all surfaces completely. Next, flush them with clear water to remove all trapped grass and other foreign matter. You should then clear all vegetation in a 12-inch radius of an outdoor unit. Numerous A/C maintenance kits are available for sale online. These products come with coil cleansers, brushes, a coating solution, and a fine-toothed comb. Use the kit to clean outdoor A/C condenser coils at least twice per season. Indoor A/C coils might not require as frequent cleansing if you stay on top of replacement and use only high-quality air filters. Maintaining your coils in a clean condition also facilitates reduced energy costs. Always make certain to turn the A/C unit off by using the main breaker prior to performing any DIY maintenance. Also, never work without wearing gloves and safety goggles whenever you use a coil cleaning solution.
Clogged evaporators in outdoor units or dirty indoor coils in indoor A/Cs can cause system freezes. In addition, dirty outdoor A/C unit coils and indoor condensers cause inefficient performance during very warm weather. Another symptom of a dirty outdoor unit is when the surface of the small copper line that exits the unit is too hot to touch while the A/C is operating. Remember that merely because you cannot see dirt, dust, or debris on the outer surface of an outdoor air conditioner coil does not mean it is clean. The better coil cleaners are capable of deep penetration into a coil to dislodge and scour away interior dirt and debris. Thus, keep such a product on hand at all times to prevent the needless early death of your A/C compressor.

A windowless A/C unit is a self-contained free standing air conditioner that does not need to rest on your windowsill.
Many experts posit that windowless A/C units offer lower efficiency than other units. However, there are many advantages of buying a free standing model.
Chief among these is that this kind of unit is much easier to install, efficiently cools rooms that run hot and are not adequately cooled by another A/C system, and is capable of clearing out smoke odors.
Below is an overview of the benefits and drawbacks of buying a windowless air conditioner.
In addition to easier installation, windowless units are not eyesores. Moreover, as only one tube must be fed out of the window, these units are very unobtrusive and are hard to see from outside your home.
A windowless A/C may also be a wise choice if you already have a central HVAC system and just want to have a little extra cooling in your home.
For instance, using a windowless unit in a room that does not receive adequate cooling via your central A/C system might be a wise idea. Rooms located on a second floor or especially sunny areas might have problems getting adequately cool solely from the central air system.
Placing a windowless A/C in such overheated rooms effectively addresses this problem, however. Doing so helps keep hot air out of the room and also means that colder air will circulate throughout the rest of your home.
Windowless units are also great for effective odor control. As they always draw air from outside, a single-hose unit is especially efficient for removing offensive smells such as cigarette or cigar smoke.
This type of air conditioning unit can also prevent odors from migrating into other areas of your home. This beneficial effect is due to the lower air pressure in the room where the unit is installed compared to other areas of your home. This results in effective odor containment.
In fact, where cigarette smoke containment is a primary goal, a windowless A/C unit is actually a superior choice over a central air system. Central units may actually move cigarette smoke throughout the whole home, whereas a windowless unit contains the smoke odor.
Finally, windowless models are quite often more affordable than other types of units.
Now for the drawbacks...
Experts concur that windowless units have a tendency to take a long time to cool a room off. Some research suggests that windowless units require more than double the amount of time to cool a room in comparison to window units.
Windowless A/C units also may have less effectiveness in very hot climates. As these machines constantly pull air from the outside into a room, they do not perform as well when outside temperatures are extremely warm.
Windowless air conditioning units are often more costly to operate than window models. As the unit constantly pulls hot air from outside, it does not function in an especially efficient fashion. It must therefore work harder and run longer to cool your room, thereby resulting in higher energy bills.
The last potential drawback of windowless A/C units is that they are effective in only a single room. Due to their design, these types of units simply do not put out sufficient power to move cold air into several rooms.
Per Consumer Reports, these units frequently have inaccurate BTU ratings. Instead of having BTUs comparable to portable units, window air conditioners cool smaller areas for the same BTU.
A free standing air conditioner will not cool your whole house in the midst of a scorching heat wave. It might also cost you higher electricity bills.

Before you know it Christmas Holiday 2013 will be here. If you are planning to visit the Grand Canyon by helicopter or airplane, I advise finalizing your plans soon. This is a popular time and both kinds of air tours have a tendency to sell out the closer we get to Santa's big day!
The most popular place to catch an air tour is from Las Vegas, NV. There's also the South Rim town of Tusayan. Both are great locations so lets dive in and take a look at them.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas is ideal if you want to catch a flight to the West Rim or the South Rim. Helicopters, however, only fly to the West because the South is to far. Airplanes go to both.
Vegas helicopters take off from various airports in the metro area, including Henderson and Boulder City. They fly over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam and either fly over the Canyon or land at the top or bottom.
The trips that fly over are the cheapest option. However, if you really want the total package, consider a landing tour, especially one that lands at the bottom or another that lands at the top that includes the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Regardless which you choose, you can't go wrong.
West Rim airplane tours follow the same path as helicopters except they go at a higher altitude. There are air and landing options. The one I prefer includes the option to do the Skywalk. There's another that includes a heli to the bottom with a boat ride.
Then there's the Vegas airplane tour to the South Rim. Frankly, this is the only way to fly in my book. The flight takes just 60 minutes and comes with 2.5 hours on the ground – plenty of time to see and experience the National Park.
South Rim
South Rim helicopters are either 30 or 50 minutes in length. The airplane is a 50-minute ride and follows the same flight path as the extended helicopter ride. The 30-minute trip goes from the South Rim to the North and back. It's the cheapest option and very popular. I get asked if "helicopters are allowed to land at the bottom at the South Rim" and they don't because the Park Service prohibits it.
Weather
It's the middle of winter so expect cool temperatures. The South Rim is colder than the West because it's at a higher elevation. Regardless, I recommend pulling a 10-day forecast prior to your flight to get a better idea of what the actual temperature/weather will be like. Based on it, dress accordingly and don't assume that the inside of a helicopter and an airplane is impermeable to the cold (for the most part it's comfortably warm).
Conclusion

Recently on a Sunday morning, a wonderful, young pastor left his pulpit after preaching in the first worship service, sat in his car before his second service, and killed himself. This man with a loving wife, two young children, and a church that was in a building campaign, ended his life.
PASTOR TEDDY PARKER JR.
The questions that are circumnavigating the globe in the aftermath of this tragic event are why would Pastor Teddy Parker, Jr. take his own life? How could a man who gives hope lose it? How could a hope peddler lose the very product he peddled? How can a pastor of all people take his own life?
As information was disseminated, it came to light that Pastor Parker was Bipolar, also known as Manic Depressive. It is a mental disorder that causes people to swing between two extreme emotional poles. People challenged with Manic Depression can be extremely happy one moment and extremely depressed the next. The emotional state of such a person vacillates like a pendulum between two emotional poles from elation on the positive end and deep sadness on the negative end of the spectrum. Unlike the average person, when people are challenged with Manic Depression, they tend to struggle with finding emotional stability and balance.
Three modalities are typically used to treat Manic Depression. 1) Medication, which aids in the control of brain chemistry, 2) ECT (electromotive therapy), which is a form of treatment where electrical currents are sent to the brain that can reverse brain chemistry and bring relief, and 3) Psychotherapy, which is an approach that typically uses cognitive and interpersonal therapy to aid in helping the patient control their emotions. If you didn't know the extent of this disorder, don't feel bad. If one of my master's degrees wasn't in counseling, I probably wouldn't know anything about this disorder myself.
The extreme shock and numbness that people continue to experience in the wake of Pastor Parker's death is that a pastor, God's man, this champion of good, struggled with this psychological disorder. More importantly, Pastor Parker's challenge has brought the issue of the need for Christians, leaders, and especially pastors to seek help for their private psychological and mental struggles. Yes, even pastors need help!
PREACHERS ARE HUMAN
Please, allow me at this point to share something from an article I wrote a few years ago after a scandal erupted and people almost lost their minds when a preacher was caught being flawed. Yes, I said caught being flawed. In your spare time read the article "The Inconvenient Truth - Part 1". Here's part of what I had to say about the humanity of preachers.
"Preachers shouldn't present themselves like they should be worshiped and followers shouldn't worship them. Again, I know what the scripture says about leadership, along with the respect that is due unto them and I fully comply; but worshiping preachers and pastors is unacceptable. Peter visited Cornelius, an Italian who was seeking God (Jehovah). God profoundly communicates with both men and coordinates a plan that would bring them together. As Peter approaches Cornelius, he bowed on his knees to honor him in Acts 10:25-26, "But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man." Yes, Peter declared what all leaders and pastors should declare, "I'm just a man."
I may be anointed, but I'm just a man. I may prophecy, but I'm just a man. I may release miracles by God's power, but I'm just a man. I may be called to lead a church, but I'm just a man. When our leaders start correcting people like Peter did, some of this hero-worshiping will stop. I implore every Christian and unbeliever to keep worshiping God and following good leadership."
Yes, preachers are subject to error and make mistakes but it doesn't make them any less holy or accepted by God. Pastor Parker's death has created a dialogue that cannot be overlooked. I'm a supreme believer in the supernatural, but I also know that we can't spiritualize everything. There comes a time that after you've done the work of God, you need to talk to somebody about what's ailing you and there's no shame in that.
PASTOR E. DEWEY SMITH JR.
While I would have preferred that Pastor Parker still be with us, his death has ignited an awakening within Christendom.
As God would have it, Pastor Parker was friends with one of God's emerging generals in His Kingdom in the person of Dr. E. Dewey Smith Jr., pastor of The House of Hope (Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church) in Decatur, Georgia. Pastor Smith is a man of irrepressible tenacity and legendary homiletic expertise, who has an undeniable passion for God and people. Pastor Smith kindly tended to Pastor Parker's family and graciously eulogized his friend.
Pastor Smith then picked up the servant's mantle and started a national conversation about mental health among clergy, leaders, and laity. During the first webinar, which consists of two parts, Pastor Smith is aided by two mental health professionals along with pastors and leaders who've dealt with extreme psychological hardships. The webinar was informative, insightful, and cathartic. It was refreshing to hear the poignant and candid advice from Christian professionals in the mental health field who understood the culture of the church and African Americans.
The message was clear and concise -- pastors and leaders must unashamedly seek help when needed and discard unrealistic expectations from people and society. The panel of pastors and leaders who openly expressed their failures and psychological challenges greatly squelched any viewers feelings of inadequacy about struggling. Additionally, Pastor Smith's transparency in how he dealt with his own past and present issues greatly empowered me and others to continue to fight our own personal battles.
I must admit, Pastor Parker's life story is personal for me. Obviously as a pastor and leader, I can identify with leading while bleeding and other unique complications that go along with the pastorate; but my empathy for Pastor Parker goes beyond superficiality. In the last fifteen years as a pastor, I've had many dark emotional days. Although I'm in a good place spiritually and emotionally today, I honestly am still recovering from my own personal storm.
MY PERSONAL TESTIMONY OF DEPRESSION
After founding a church in Missouri and leading it for eleven years to a respectable level of success, God re-positioned me to the Atlanta, Georgia area to plant a new church. I came to a place where very few people knew me, I had no public notoriety, my income wasn't established, and all the success I had in Missouri meant nothing. Basically, I moved a family of four along with a small core group to plant a church on a Word from God. Needless to say, after moving, life became more complicated. There were many days we didn't even have five dollars for gas. At other times food was very scarce and upon contracting an intractable malady, I struggled in pain every day for two years. I preached in pain, even as I traveled between Atlanta and Memphis, which is where the other church I pastor is located.
I racked in pain sometimes every hour on the hour from something that a ten minute surgery could correct; but because I didn't have insurance or money, I suffered. I then had two small churches, no money, poor health, gossiping family and friends who didn't understand our plight, plus a deflated ego. I've often told many people I died a thousand deaths in the last three years. One day I had a vision while my body was wrought with searing, tortuous, almost indomitable pain that had me on my knees, crying aloud for help from God. In this agonizing moment, I had a vision of a gun pointed at my head ending my misery. I was tired of the pain and tired of being a failure in ministry and death looked like the best option.
Most of my friends, family, and peers would consider me to be a rock. However, I must admit, death loomed over my conscious thoughts like buzzards over a crippled animal. I wanted no part in continuing to pastor and live in pain. During this time, I would travel laid on my side in a backseat of a car because I couldn't sit down without being in pain. I would travel to preach both in and out of town, while in almost unbearable pain and would return home feeling like a miserable failure. I would preach and prophecy until people could hardly stand and after church traveling home, I would be depressed before I could get down the street.
As pastor Smith said, "It is possible to preach well and not be well." It has been God's grace, love from close family, and my desire to win that kept me going. The past few years of heartache and challenges have helped me to learn more about myself and others. With the advent of an epiphany occurring in the afterglow of Pastor Teddy Parker Jr's death and the emergence of dialogue concerning psychological health for pastors, I realize I don't have to struggle alone.
For those of us who are still here on this planet, what Teddy Parker struggled with as his past tense is our present tense. I am not better than him and what he dealt with, I must still conquer. Pastor Parker is no longer on this plane of existence. He's moved beyond space and time into a celestial place that's transcendent of the trappings of flesh and blood. What he left as the essence of being human, I still live with and I yet must contend with all the challenges that go along with possessing such a nature. Like a cruise liner that's held by an anchor, so is our true existential nature attached and connected to the physical realm. Our spirit must still deal with flesh and the convolution of a dark, sin-infested world.
So, I'm presented with a question I must ask myself because of Pastor Parker's death. Who am I? My simplistic analysis led me to this conclusion: I'm a spirit. I'm a man. I'm a son. I'm a husband. I'm a father. I'm a believer. I'm a pastor. I'm a leader. I'm a builder. I'm a visionary. I'm a fighter. I'm a winner. I'm an emotional being. I'm imperfect. I'm a recipient of God's grace. I am Teddy Parker Jr.!
