The Grand Canyon National Park has long been a must-see destination given the fact that it is home to a geographical and world renown marvel. Given its immense size, the Grand Canyon is a visually inspiring and powerful landscape. More than its aesthetic intrigue, however, the history of this location and the process by which it was formed have attracted numerous visitors throughout the years.

Spanning more than 277 river miles, this canyon features many geologic forms and colors. The wildlife is surprisingly diverse and travelers can often get an up-close experience with many different land and water animals when taking guided tours. It is a full mile deep and approximately 18 miles wide.

It was not until 1919 that National Park status was achieved for this location. Prior to this it was recorded as a National Monument and a Forest Reserve. Now, however, as many as 5 million people visit this park on an annual basis, making it a major attraction for both nationals and international visitors.

There are over 4,300 archaeological discoveries that have been made here, however, this accounts for only 5% of the available land which is all that has been officially surveyed. Some of the archaeological finds are believed to be as much as 12,000 years old and thus, they lend greater understanding of the history and people of the western world, both before and after recorded history. There are 11 tribes traditionally associated with the park and these groups take part in the preservation and maintenance as part of their own cultural preservation.

For hiking enthusiasts, there are two main trails that serve as superhighways through this park. These are the South Kaibab trail and the Bright Angel trail. These offer rough terrain, however, given the fact that there is no shade and therefore no respite from the heat. Thus, novice hikers are advice to take special heed to warnings on recommendations for gear and all hikers should attempt to carry a minimum of two quarts of water. Those who are up for the trek will find either trail to be a visually spectacular and highly informative journey.

Both the North and South rims of the canyon offer plenty for viewers to see. The South Rims is best know for its sights given that it is often featured on postcards and in movies as well as via other forms of media. The North Rim, however, proves just as interesting and thus, travelers will usually choose their paths based upon their starting locations and the amount of time that they have for exploring. Moreover, exploration methods can vary quite a bit as well.

Boating tours are a popular option for people who want a more leisurely experience. These usually start at the South Rim and carry on for about fifteen miles. Midway to the finish travelers are treated to a picnic lunch on the banks of the river and can even venture in for an afternoon swim.

Other people are investing in helicopter tours of the Grand Canyon. While this is certainly a less hands on approach it affords consumers the benefit of getting an aerial view, which is often the only way to truly take in the sheer immensity of this structure. These are perfect for Las Vegas visitors who wish to part their time between indulging in the fun on the strip and learning more about the geography and history of this world wonder.

New Year's holidays in Las Vegas are a great way to ring in 2014. But if you really want to make it a trip to remember, consider going on a day trip to the Grand Canyon.

    Yes, the Grand Canyon.

I know it sounds odd at first but in actuality it's very realistic. See, the National Park is just 120 miles away from Vegas, making it one of Sin City's most sought after things to do.

So how does one go about visiting the Canyon, right?

Well, there are numerous ways, but the most popular include bus tours, airplane flights and helicopter rides. In addition, there are jeep tours, walking tours, and ATV adventures. But for the purpose of this article, we'll stick to the top 3.

Bus tours go to the West Rim and the South Rim. The West Rim is closest, and it's also home to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. The South Rim is the farthest (some 277 miles east), but it's the place to go for natural scenic beauty. Do note that bus trips leave once a day and that they only pause at Hoover Dam for photos.

Airplane tours get you to the West Rim in 30 minutes and the South Rim in 60. I'm partial to these trips especially when I'm on a budget and have to get to the Canyon fast. I also prefer them when it comes to getting to the South Rim. As noted, it takes an hour. Compared to a 5.5-hour bus ride, it's like riding a Cheetah.

Then there are helicopter rides. These only go to the West Rim because the South is too far away. You can fly over the Canyon in a heli or you can land at the top or bottom. The more exciting of the two is the one that goes to the base for a Champagne lunch. Personally, the descent alone is worth the price of admission, so to speak.

The great thing about these Las Vegas tours is that they are all-inclusive. This means they come with everything you need as a traveler, including hotel pick up and drop off, lunch (excluding air-only trips) and all Park entrance fees and fuel surcharges. Or, to rephrase, the price you pay at online checkout is the final price and nothing more.

It's going to be cold in Vegas during the New Year's holidays and the same can be said for the Canyon. Heed this and dress for temperatures that could reach freezing. The nice thing is the day does heat up as time goes on but there's not guarantee that it will so dress accordingly. One thing I strongly recommend is a good jacket. And if you can, make sure to bring a hat and gloves.

I mentioned online checkout earlier, which leads me to price. The best deals are on the Web. Just don't delegate too much time to save a few bucks. You'll go crazy and remember that your time has value, too. Be consoled that the price you do find on the Internet is very competitive and that you've taken an extra step that few in your shoes have.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

If you're headed out to Las Vegas for the New Year's holidays, definitely consider taking a Grand Canyon bus tour.

Enjoying the Las Vegas Strip is your top priority. But I find that many visitors like to take a break from celebrating by taking a trip to the Canyon.

If you do this, you have two options: Visit the West Rim or the South Rim. The former is closest and requires a 2.5-hour drive while the later is farthest and takes 5.5-hours to reach.

    Two Rims

Which rim should you visit? Depends on what you want to see and do. Let's start with the West Rim. You'll want to go there if you want activities and attractions.

For example, the Grand Canyon Skywalk is at the West Rim. It's the glass bridge that let's you walk some 70 feet past the edge. Additionally, you can also take a helicopter to the bottom and a boat on the Colorado River.

I must point out that helicopter rides to the bottom are only available at the West Rim and they can be bundled into your bus tour package.

    South Rim

The South Rim is recognized as the official Grand Canyon. Most of the National Park's most famous pictures were taken here. Most bus tour companies will let you add a helicopter ride from the South Rim to the North Rim and back (highly recommended).

Bus tours are very popular during the holiday season. It's for this reason that I recommend that you book your coach trip in advance. If possible, do it at least 48 hours ahead of time.

Many visitors ask me what happens if their plans change. It's really no problem. The best bus tour companies let you cancel your tour within 24 hours of departure. Or, if you can't do the particular day you're scheduled, you can change it to another day at no charge.

    Best Prices

The best prices on bus tours can be found online. Some worry if booking on a Website is safe and yes it is. Nearly all travel sites are able to process transactions securely. In fact, when I book tours for friends and family, I only do it online and I've never had an issue.

Winter can be cold at the West Rim and the South Rim so please dress warmly. I recommend wearing a heavy jacket, gloves, a hat and good shoes. The South Rim sits at a higher elevation (7,000 feet), so it's colder than the West. Best thing to do is check the weather forecast the day before you go so you can be properly prepared.

    Conclusion

The New Year's holiday in Las Vegas is a special time. There's lots of energy and excitement. Sometime during your stay, however, you'll probably want to get off The Strip, and that's when a bus tour to the Grand Canyon makes a lot of sense. Just remember that bus tours require a full day to complete. Further, be prepared for cold weather. Then kick back and relax and enjoy the best of the Seven Wonders of the World

Article Title: Estate Planning and Asset Protection Often Goes Overlooked

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

It is commonly noted by financial planners that the areas of estate planning and asset protection are two of the most overlooked financial planning topics. Many people tend to focus on retirement and investment allocation, but often forget to protect those assets they spent significant portions of their time and effort building. Protecting those assets, as well as planning for the future are extremely important parts of financial planning and overall financial well being.

When selecting an estate planning attorney, be sure to pick a lawyer who has signifcant experience dealing with estate planning, and also has a well rounded background in the subject.

Practice areas of estate planning firms typically include basic and advanced estate planning, elder law, probate and trust administration, business succession planning, and more. Estate planning services generally include wills and revocable living trusts, durable powers of attorney, healthcare proxies, living wills, irrevocable trusts, charitable and education trusts, among others.

Elder law services will typically include Medicaid/Masshealth long-term care planning for nursing home care, Medicaid asset-sprotection trusts, guardianships, and conservatorships. It is important to research and learn about estate planning prior to seeing an attorney, in order to gain a grasp of what you can expect. Look for an attorney who takes a hands-on approach, and personally guides his clients through each and every stage of the planning process. At the initial meeting you can expect the attorney to listen carefully to the yourconcerns and learn about your unique personal, family and financial situation. As a result you should have established a comprehensive estate plan to address their concerns and situation.

The core goal of all good planning is to protect your assets so most of them end up going to benefit your family, and are not lost along the way to taxes, court costs, creditors, or divorce. At the second meeting you will generally work together with you and other advisors, tailoring the estate plan to achieve your unique values and goals. Once the plan is written, you will have to sign the plan documents. If the plan includes a living trust, you will have to fund (or transfer title of their assets into) your new trust.

Every lifetime plan developed should strive to leave your hard-earned property on to your family and protect against loss through from high nursing home costs.

Again, when selecting a estate planning attorney be sure to check references, prior work history, and be sure that you will ultimately be happy with the end results. Protecting your hard earned assets is often overlooked, but don't be one of the bunch that regret not having estate planning settled before it is too late.

Conveniently located in North Attleborough, they serve clients from Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and especially the communities of North Attleborough, Norton, Attleboro, Mansfield, Foxboro, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Pawtucket, and Providence. Now is the time to consult a lawyer. Delay simply postpones the plan, the solution – call them today and take the first step toward peace of mind now.

John Stone recommends Deschene Law Office http://deschenelaw.com/ as a very knowledgeable Rhode Island and Massachusetts estate and asset protection attorney
