Visiting Las Vegas this month? Then consider taking a Grand Canyon bus tour to the South Rim. These day trips are a spectacular way to take a day off from The Strip. But most importantly is that they are very affordable this time of the year.

South Rim bus tours run from Vegas every day of the year except for Christmas Day. This is great news because the Canyon is absolutely beautiful during the winter months. How so? First, there are fewer people at the Canyon and second you might luck into seeing it with snow.

Trips typically depart in the morning around 7 am And they only leave once. This is because this is an all day trip that gets you back to your Vegas Strip hotel around 9 pm I also recommend not making evening plans that day because you can't be sure if you'll be back exactly at that time.

    The Route

The route taken includes going past Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. I do want to point out that most bus tours will do a 15-minute photo stop at The Dam once they cross over the Hoover Dam bypass bridge and into Arizona. Again, this is only for photos. If you stay longer you'll have less time to spend at the National Park.

(If you want to really do Hoover Dam, I recommend you take a separate tour.)

The bus usually rolls into the South Rim around noon. From there, you'll have the opportunity to check out Mather Point, Yaki Point, Grand Canyon Village and more. Typical time spent inside the Park is up to 3 hours, which is plenty of time to see and enjoy the best landmark sites.

These bus tours are usually all-inclusive, which means they include lunch, all taxes, fees, fuel surcharges and Park entrance fees. I don't know if I named all the potential fees but suffice it to say that the price you pay during online checkout is final and fixed and you will not pay more.

    Cold Weather

Weather at the South Rim is cold during winter. Remember, this rim sits at 7,000 feet in elevation, so snow is a common occurrence. As such, dress warmly. I do suggest wearing a heavy coat, hat, gloves, long pants, a sweater and more. A pair of closed-toe shoes in good condition are also suggested (and wool socks!).

Because of weather, there's a chance that your tour could cancel or be rescheduled. It's just part of going to the South Rim during winter. But there's nothing to worry about because all the best tour companies offer a full refund if weather cancels a trip. Or they will reschedule you on a day that's most convenient for you. Further, if you decide upon arrival that you don't have time to do the tour, then cancel within 24 hours and you'll get a full refund.

Lastly, always book these South Rim bus tours in advance. I typically recommend you purchase them 72 hours in advance. Moreover, book you trip online. The reason is that these are where most of the special offers are. But even if you don't find a "special," no worries because the Internet rate is always the cheapest
