Planning a hike in the Scottsdale, Arizona, area is an excellent way to get in touch with nature, see some of the most beautiful parts of the country, and get a little exercise as well. Yet before you set out on an afternoon hike, there are a number of precautions that you would do well to heed. Yes, there are numerous well-marked and frequently traveled hiking paths that you can enjoy, but even if you are just planning an afternoon stroll, it is important to always be prepared. And, this is especially true if you are planning on camping or going on a longer, more intense hike through the desert.

Make no mistake, hiking in Arizona is absolutely spectacular. Even on a relatively short walk, you'll undoubtedly see unique flora and fauna, and the views of the mountains and rock formations are nothing short of remarkable. As a result, hiking is big business in Scottsdale, with options ranging from short, guided tours to extreme adventure treks out into the wild. Plus, in addition to hiking, many individuals enjoy exploring the landscape by horseback, motorized vehicle, and bicycle, giving you all sorts of options for a day spent in the desert. With that said, many people find hiking to be especially appealing because in addition to being a fun way to spend the day, hiking is also outstanding cardiovascular exercise that can have long-term health benefits if you make a habit of it.

With all this said, it is vitally important that you plan accordingly for your hike – whether you plan on being gone for an hour or overnight. For starters, perhaps the most vital thing you can do before you go on a hike it to tell someone of your plans, where you are going, and when you will be home. This is even more vital if you are hiking alone. No one wants to think about getting lost or separated from the trail, but accidents do happen and if you do not return home when you are supposed to, you don't have to worry about hours or days going by without anyone knowing you've gone missing. Plus, cell phones have a bad habit of losing signal, dying, or getting lost, meaning it would be possible to get lost in the wilderness with no reproach if you aren't careful. It just makes sense to be prudent, more than anything.

Another good idea if you are driving out into the desert is to make doubly sure that your car is in good working order and stocked with a basic survival kit that includes fresh water, nonperishable foods, first aid equipment, an emergency blanket, and other similar items, just in case. It's also recommended that you make sure that you have a reliable battery, spare tire, and tools for minor repairs. And, remember that the international sign for "help needed" is to raise your hood and trunk.

Hiking is a great way to spend some time outdoors, get a little exercise, and enjoy all that Arizona has to offer. Just be sure that you are prepared before setting off into the great unknown. You'll enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you took the necessary precautions.

Endoscopic technology is an exciting advancement in medical technology that has allowed surgeons and medical doctors to perform a litany of procedures that historically required much more involved surgical approaches. In many cases, endoscopic procedures, which are minimally invasive in nature, can be completed in outpatient clinics as opposed to impersonal hospitals, and come with far less risk for post-operative complications, making them a compelling alternative. Yet, this approach also has its own limitations and isn't right for every individual and condition, so it is exceedingly important that you do your due diligence and make sure you find the right surgery for you.

Endoscopic surgery is unique in that it requires a very small incision in the body to complete. Consider endoscopic spine procedure as an example. Historically, if a patient suffered from symptoms from a herniated disc or another degenerative spine condition and all conservative treatments failed to deliver the results that they required, the only real option was spinal fusion surgery. This open-spine surgery requires a large incision to be made in the back or neck, and the soft tissue and musculature that supports the spinal column has to be cut in order for the surgeon to gain access to the problem area in the spine. The issue with this approach is that the patient must then spend several weeks or even months recovering from the collateral damage to the tissue to regain full strength. Furthermore, with major surgeries such as this, there is an increased chance for post-operative complications to arise, such as infection, hemorrhaging, excessive scar tissue formation, and even failed back surgery syndrome.

With an endoscopic approach, on the other hand, only a very small incision (usually less than an inch long) is needed and rather than cutting muscles and ligaments, tissue is gently pushed aside as telescoping tubes are inserted into the back or neck. Using state-of-the-art camera and laser technology the highly trained surgeon can then make the adjustments that are needed to alleviate the patient's pain and finish the procedure – often without even requiring the use of general anesthesia. What's more, because these operations are so minimally invasive they typically require a much less arduous rehabilitation period than their invasive counterparts.

Of course, endoscopic spine surgery is only one example of how this compelling technology is being used effectively in modern medicine. For years, this similar procedure has been used with great success in knee surgeries. Endoscopic technology has also been used by healthcare providers to review just about everything else you can imagine in the body, ranging from the GI tract to the ears, nose, and throat.

With all that said, it is important that you research your options and find the right operation for your condition. Endoscopic procedures utilize exciting technology and in some instances are a compelling option, but they aren't right for every case. Speak with your doctor to learn more about all of your options.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

One of the things that many people don't know about scoliosis is that there are three main scoliosis causes that can explain the onset of an abnormality in the curvature of the spine. Most people associate scoliosis with children since this is the age group that is most commonly affected by the condition, but the truth is that scoliosis can conceivably develop in the spines of people of all ages. Generally speaking, there are three types of scoliosis that you should know about: congenital scoliosis, neuromuscular scoliosis, and degenerative scoliosis. But before we get to discussing the main types of this condition, it can be helpful to know what, exactly, scoliosis is.

In its simplest terms, scoliosis refers to the presence of an abnormal curvature in the spine. In layman's terms, scoliosis causes the spine to curve from side to side, and an MRI or X-ray is usually used to accurately diagnose the condition. This can have a pronounced impact on an individual's gait, cause uneven musculature in the body, affect the length of arms or legs, and even cause chronic back or neck pain and other symptoms of nerve compression.

With that said, here is a brief overview of the three main scoliosis causes:

    • Congenital scoliosis – This is the type of scoliosis that most everyone is at least peripherally familiar with in a broad sense. Congenital scoliosis develops in the womb as a result of spinal bones not forming or fusing correctly. This condition can impact just about any region of the spine and is present in various degrees of severity. The specific cause of the condition isn't fully understood but it is believed that it can be genetic or the result of environmental factors.

    • Neuromuscular scoliosis – In some instances, the onset of a muscular or neurological disease can cause the spinal column to become abnormally deformed. Once again, the severity of this condition varies depending on the patient's condition, prognosis, and various treatment options that might be recommended to manage the disease. Common examples of diseases that can cause this deformity are cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.

    • Degenerative scoliosis – This condition is perhaps the least recognized type of scoliosis because it is most common in individuals over the age of 65 and isn't as easy to predict. As we grow older, our spinal anatomy naturally begins to deteriorate as a result of years of wear and tear. Degenerative scoliosis – or adult onset scoliosis – can be traced to a situation where the facet joints that normally connect adjacent vertebra become severely deteriorated, causing the spinal column to misalign.

As you can tell, these three scoliosis causes are very different, which is why a discussion of various treatments vary widely from scoliosis patient to patient. What's more, scoliosis isn't black and white. It is possible to have a relatively mild form of the condition, which will require one treatment approach, while other individuals might suffer from debilitating spinal deformity, which will warrant another approach. To learn more about these conditions and your various treatment options, speak with a specialist in your area.

Of course there are numerous ways to experience the Grand Canyon, but helicopter happen to be my favorite way.

My reasoning for this is intensity. For starters, helicopters fly at a lower altitude than airplanes. This means you get a closer view of the canyon. Then there's maneuverability – choppers can bank and weave amid some of the Park's most incredible buttes and cliffs.

You also cover a lot of ground on a helicopter tour. West Rim tours not only go to the bottom but also land on the top. South Rim trips allow you to see nearly 75% of the Park in under and hour!

So, how do you go about arranging a helicopter flight?

First, you need to pick a departure point. There are two: Las Vegas, NV, and Tusayan, AZ, which is located at the South Rim.

Next, you need to determine what kind of flight you want: air or landing? Air tours are just that – they fly over key parts of the canyon and return to the airport.

Landing tours are quite a different story. They go aerial over the canyon and then land. These types of tours are only available from Las Vegas, and the West Rim is the sole place where you can land at the bottom.

The most popular landing tour is the one that lands at the base, deplanes and comes with a picnic. The "super" version of this trip includes a boat ride down the Colorado River and tickets to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

South Rim helicopters come in two flavors: 30-minute and 50-minute. The shorter of the two flights goes from the South Rim to the North Rim and back. In between, you fly through the incredible Dragoon Corridor.

The longer South Rim flight includes everything the shorter flight does as well as everything up to the Park's eastern boundary and a good portion of the North Rim. I also like the fact that you see the Little Colorado and its amazing turquoise waters.

Naturally, these air tours are popular. This means you should book this flight in advance. I find that a week ahead of time usually does the trick. If I'm in a pinch for time, I can usually land a trip within 72 hours but I don't like to push it.

As for deals, the best prices are on the Web. That said, not all sites offer the best prices. In other words, you need to know where to look. My advice here is to stay away from brand-name sites and go direct to the tour supplier. Once you find the right supplier, make sure you complete the booking online. This is how you lock in the Internet rate, which is significantly cheaper than retail (often by up to 30 percent).

    Conclusion

Grand Canyon helicopters are a great way to see the National Park. They fly from Las Vegas and Tusayan, AZ, and fly over the West rim and the South Rim (please note that Las Vegas helicopters only go to the West Rim). Types of air tours are air or landing. The former is great for travelers with limited time for sightseeing while landing tours give you a more in-depth experience. Try to book your tours a week in advance. As for deals, go online. But remember: complete the purchase online in order to save money.

For most men, the trouble areas of their body isn't the extremities or anything like that. It's the core that has the issue and that can manifest in a tremendous of amount of ways. First and foremost, you may find that the stomach and belly hangs over the waistline of pants, and the beer gut that so many are proud of, is not helpful in a lot of situations. If you want to look your best and you want to get lean muscle, and rock hard abs, you'll want to stick to a few tips and tricks that will isolate the area and get you lean and proportioned. You don't want to only work out one area, as that will only give you one big inflated option, and that's not conducive to long term healthy living.

The first thing that you have to do in order to gain a good amount of weight loss, specifically pure belly fat is to start eating better. This may sound rudimentary but it's something that most people don't want to address because they assume that they will have to eat nothing but leaves and fruit. That's not true at all. Eating well is a matter of changing the lifestyle to have more good foods, whole foods, things that are not derived from fast food restaurants or come out of a microwave. Changing these things up is a simple as looking into options that will allow you to get the most flavor and nutrients from food items without having to sacrifice taste. Try this out, and go healthy for a short time, you'll understand why it's imperative.

After you've changed your lifestyle of eating, you'll want to look into exercising more often. If you already have a routine, break it to include something better. You want to make sure that you're focusing on alternating your workouts and focusing on muscle building as well as fat loss. The first thing that you want to set up is a goal, a goal that will allow you to reach something grand. First, start with running a mile, and get to a point where you don't get too tired. Once you can run a full mile within a span of 8 to 10 minutes without breaking much of a sweat, try to beat your time. This will help you get endurance and lung capacity which will translate into better results for the next step.

If you do the above things, you are ready to learn about the abdominal areas. You'll want to do crunches, sit ups, and workout the abs all the time. Isolate them when you're not doing anything, like watching television, or simply have 15 minutes to kill while waiting for someone. If you simply flex, do crunches, and work out for at least 15 minutes at a time every now and again, you will see results fast.

The key to all of this is to combine different elements of healthy living into a routine that is not complicated. The easier things are, the more likely you are to keep up with them, so that's why it's crucial to look into the aforementioned for the future of sculpting your body as well as your mind.

Every off-season, teams switch up QBs in hopes of finding that special Field General who will lead them to victory. The majority of this activity is found in the backup QB spot as teams want to secure a quality QB who is experienced enough, and has the talent, to step in for his team in case the true starting QB is hurt. Of course, this does not apply in Chicago even after it costs them dearly every season. This off-season was no different as a large number of teams switched back-up QBs and a few brought in new starters. Switching starters is not happening as frequently as it used to since more QBs are coming out of college and are NFL-ready immediately. Let's take a quick look at the merry-go-round and how it impacts us as fantasy football players.

    Starters

Carson Palmer (AZ) - Spoiler Alert! Carson will be featured as my QB Sleeper of the year. I love this move for the Cardinals and for Palmer. Arizona has wasted solid defensive efforts since Kurt Warner left by not having anything resembling a quality QB under center. Of course, they have been unable to keep a starting RB healthy during this time to help the QB in the passing game, but it really hasn't mattered. In 2013, they have added Rashard Mendenhall's bum knee to Ryan Williams' pair of bum knees and cut Beanie Wells. Wisely, they drafted Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington so they should have someone healthy enough to provide a mix for Palmer. My excitement for Palmer comes from the receiving corp. I have thought the treatment of Larry Fitzgerald has been criminal since Warner departed, but he will run the field like he was back in Pitt this year. On the other side of the field, Andre Roberts has proven to be a valuable contributor but I see Michael Floyd having a coming-out party this year, which will help Fitz quite a bit. Palmer will throw for over 4500 yards and 30+ TDs this year.

Alex Smith (KC) - My excitement for this position has ended. "Game Manager" Alex Smith is a weak QB2. KC likes to run the ball and is weak at WR. Dwayne Bowe is very nice and should bounce back to his 2010-11 numbers, but they have no one else to throw to. Dexter McCluster is an exciting player, but his excitement does not add any to Smith's for me.

Kevin Kolb (BUF) - This one is a toss-up. If you get a strong QB1, you could take a late flier on Kolb as a late QB2 or QB3 if you have the space. EJ Manuel is the future starting QB for Buffalo, but Kolb's contract virtually guarantees first shot this year. Palmer has many more weapons, but Kolb has many more than Smith. Stevie Johnson should be at full strength and ready to put up big numbers again. Rookie Robert Woods could surprise. I loved his game at USC, though ignored due to the excellence of Marquis Lee. Hell, Kolb could exceed Alex Smith's numbers by just dumping the ball off to CJ Spiller.

    Backups

Ryan Fitzpatrick (TENN) - Fitzpatrick had a short, nice run at Buffalo but couldn't continue after receiving an insanely big contract. Tennessee was wise to grab him as Jake Locker seems a bit brittle. Should Locker go down, Fitzpatrick could put up nice numbers. Locker is a QB2 though and it is rare that one grabs a backup to a QB2 unless you are in a really, really deep league. With Nate Washington, Kendall Wright and Kenny Britt as wideouts, either/both QBs should do surprisingly well this year.

Drew Stanton (AZ) - The Cardinals figured that they would overhaul the QB position. Hell, Stanton would have been much better than a few of the bums under center the past few years. Since I love Palmer this year, I would add Stanton if I drafted Palmer.

Bruce Gradkowski (PITT) - Since Big Ben gets pummeled every year and misses a few games, the Steelers finally did the smart thing and cut loose Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich. Granted, Gradkowski won't scare any opposing defensive coordinators, but he is a definite step up. I would consider adding him as a QB3 if I drafted Roethlisberger and have a deep league.

Matt Hasselbeck (IND) - Hasselbeck is definitely on the downside of his career and QBs in Indy rarely leave the field. But, you have to like what is going on in Indy and their wideouts. I would consider adding him as a QB3 if I drafted Luck and have a deep league.

Luke McCown (NO) - Drew Brees makes the Saints' passing game what it is. A reasonable backup may be able to produce half of what Brees does. After 7 seasons in the league, McCown has 22 games and 2000 yards to his name. I would back Brees up with any starter outside of the Jets before adding McCown.

Chase Daniel (KC) - Another overhaul. I like Daniel a lot but I hate anyone under center in KC.

Matt Cassel (MINN) - I wouldn't want Christian Ponder so I can't recommend Cassel. Minny's WRs are worse than KC's.

Millions of men around the world are trying to train their bodies to have more definition and it's not as cut and dry as most people think. Sure, you could go through the motions of training regimens that other people have already written about, but you'll find that it's a complicated mess to really stick to good overall training methods. For those that are serious about getting ripped, and want to focus on the world of exercise, look at a few tips and tricks that will help you get moving forward with relative ease. The following are a few ideas that will not only help you tone but also lose serious fat cells now.

The first thing that you want to do is start to eat healthy. This may sound simple, but it's a matter of reading the ingredient lists and cutting out certain foods that you may be over eating. Try to cut out soy, sugar, and highly processed foods that you find your local grocery store. Avoid fast food as well and replace things that you would normally eat with whole foods, and options that are derived from things that you can pronounce. Don't omit the things that you love, but rather find alternatives that will help your body get into shape. If you must indulge, take 1 day out of the week and eat whatever you want for one full meal. Then focus on the rest of the week to maintain a good diet.

The second thing that you want to do is start to work out on a regular basis. This is not a call for you to try out for your local sports team or get into training with a professional athletics department, simply get on some running shoes and go outside. Walk around the block until you break a sweat, and then start to do that often enough until you can start to run, than from there try to do it as fast as you can and for a good amount of time. If you do this properly you will start to shed pounds quickly and then can move on with the next step in this process.

The next thing that you will want to do is simple, start to isolate the abdominal area to burn fat when you're not even working out. To do this, you will need to flex and move the abdominal muscles whenever you think about it. No matter where you are, try to do some simple exercises that you can get away with at any given moment. When in doubt, try to do pushups on your breaks and break a small sweat whenever you can. Focus on this during your leisure times and any time you have some dull moments. If you can sprinkle this in throughout your days, you will get the definition that you seek faster than most others. Remember, the key here is to try and be consistent with what you're doing. The more effort you put in, the better off you're going to be, so do not neglect the process here.

For men, the hardest thing to do is lose pure belly fat and get moving forward with a positive outlook. Most fail to deliver on the promise to themselves and their families to lose weight, because it can be harder than ever before to get through the doldrums of trying to gain lean muscle instead of fat cells. If you find yourself looking for a way to seriously lose some weight, than you will want to focus on a few things that are not only simple, but can help you sustain the goals that you have and get on board with something that actually works. The following is simple, remember that, and you will be fine.

Eat Whole Foods - This may sound rudimentary, but it cannot be stressed enough. Do not forget to eat well and focus on whole foods. The more you focus on eating good things, the better you will feel and the more your body will respond to the ingredients. Look at the boxes that you're purchasing and focus on only eating things that you can pronounce and you know are going to help your body succeed in digestion and capitalize on things that will compel you to lose fat fast.

When In Doubt Exercise - There are times of leisure that you're going to be wasting time. Think about it, you may watch television for a few hours a night and there are commercials in which you are simply waiting for your program to return. In that moment, you have a great and powerful option to get some exercise in. Take those breaks as signs to do something, and get started with pushups and crunches. Do this often and every time you watch several hours of programming, you will have something to do that will be beneficial to your goal of losing serious weight.

Find a Hobby - Get a bicycle, join a recreational sports league, start running, or any hobby that involves a great deal of physical activity. You want to make sure that you're not only moving around a lot, but enjoying what you're doing. If you do this, you will start to see the fat melt away and your muscles will start to get more defined. Do not let up when you see initial results, keep yourself moving forward and you will gain a serious amount of definition and those six pack abs will start to form as well.

The above 3 easy things that you can do to lose weight and gain definition are not hard to accomplish. You simply start with baby steps and focus on moving through everything and get the results that you want. If you are serious about getting fit and you want to do everything in your power to gain muscle instead of fat, the above will get you going forward. Once you start to see results, keep things going by joining a gym and alternate between cardiovascular workouts and weight training. When you combine all elements in proper manner, you will accomplish your goals and look great at the same time.

When you talk to people that have spent years working on their body, they will be quick to tell you that there is no short cuts to getting ripped. The truth of the matter is actually quite opposite, as there are some shorter routes to losing pure belly fat than to just spend hours on end in a gym. While there is some work involved, it should be noted that it's far easier to get to a goal than most people think. If you want to seriously get into shape and are tired of trying crash diets and things that pose no major results, than it's time to look into a few options that will only serve to be a good thing for you overall. The following methods will help you get definition, and finally get six pack abs that you crave.

First and foremost, make sure that you are taking a vitamin supplement that contains protein. Don't go for the massive weight gain powders, just look for protein isolate. The reason for this is because you want to recover and endure longer over time. The muscle system relies heavily on complex and simple amino acids, which is why many body builders focus on eating red meat a great deal, it's the protein that is inside. Get a supplement and you will not have to eat large meals to get the same results.

Once you have changed the way you eat, make sure that you look into isolating the systems of the body that you want to succeed with. Whether you want to lose weight, gain lean muscle, or try to get a certain amount of definition, it's imperative that you look at isolation training methods. For instance, if you want to get killer abs, you will want to do crunches, sit ups and more. This is a good start, but it is not the end of the line, so don't assume that you will only be doing this. This will jump start the cellular production and get you definition early on, but you will want to include a little bit more to the mix.

After you have started to isolate the abdominal area in the aforementioned manner, you will want to get a good deal of cardiovascular exercise in. This might sound counterintuitive at first, but if you give it time, your body will start to remove the fat cells that are located on the stomach and replace them with pure lean muscle. This will give you that definition that you are seeking, but only if you do a great deal of this exercise to offset the concentration of the abs.

Abdominal training is all about balance and isolation. Focusing on the two will help you not only move forward, it will help you gain the body that you want faster than most people that you can ask. Test the waters and give this your best shot for a few weeks and you will definitely see results. This is especially true if you change the way you eat as well.

Article Title: Article Spinner - How Does - Article Spinning - Work

What, precisely, is an article spinner? Many people really don't know the answer to this question.

An article spinner is supposed to be the internet marketer's dream. Most people do know that writing articles is a great way to get traffic to your website and get noticed by the big G - Google. However, article writing can be very time consuming and it therefore does take a lot of time and a lot of articles to produce results.

There are a number of things you can do with articles such as submit them to a site like e-zine articles where you create an author's bio at the end of the article and include a link back to your website. Somebody reads the article and then clicks on your link and presto! you have a visitor to your website.

You can also write articles as blog posts on your website with links to an affiliate product, for example. You hope that Google will pick up your articles and that you will get to the top of Page One. And if you write enough articles then you may just do that. However, the problem with all this is the time it takes. You could, of course, outsource the article writing, but that costs money.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a piece of software that could take an article that you wrote just once and turn it into dozens of similar articles on the same subject but that read differently and at the same time included your links? You could then spread these new, different articles all over the internet.

    Enter the article spinner.

Unfortunately it isn't quite as simple as that. There is a lot of article spinning software available out there, some of it free, but an awful lot of it is so much garbage.

With some article spinners you have to enter words manually and the software will then select from alternatives. so you might have the sentence "John will cook the meal". You would then set this up as "John will (cook/prepare/create) the meal". The software will now select the three words and produce three different sentences. You can see how it is supposed to work. Unfortunately, setting this up manually and checking the results probably takes longer than writing a new article!

Second generation spinners vary, but are supposed to do the job for you. However, you have only to look at some of the content on the internet to realise that many of them produce gibberish which in many instances looks as though it may have been written by a poorly educated chimpanzee.

As an example, here is something that I saw just a couple of weeks back. The sentence "You can do this with one click of your mouse" was put through a spinner and then read "You will be able to achieve this with a single click of your rodent"! I am absolutely serious.

There are some article spinners out there which are reputed to work quite well, one of which is The Best Spinner. This works as follows. You copy and paste the article you want to spin into the software. You then click on "Identify Synonyms" and the spinner will find all of the words in the article which have synonyms that are already in the database.

You then click on any word you want to find synonyms for. The synonym window will open and you just click on the word you want to use. Then you hit the Tab or arrow key and highlight the next word you want to find synonyms for. The software will inject the last word or phrase into the article and so you go on.

If you want to use the same synonyms throughout the article for a particular word or phrase you can hit the Replace All button and it will do just that.

Another article spinner just launched is Spin Rewriter 3.0 which is claimed to be 20 years ahead of its competition. That remains to be seen.

In a nutshell, it seems that an article spinner is not the dream solution that internet marketers would wish it to be. Not only that, but Google is getting better at detecting articles that have been spun. For example, twenty articles on one blog that all have about the same number of words is a giveaway for a start.

In any event you can get articles written on sites like hirewriters and iWriter for as little as $3.50 for a 500 word article with all the SEO content that you need and which will satisfy the requirements of the search engines.

Article Title: Are the Y Generation Still the Fun at Work Generation?

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

In the mid-noughties, there was a lot of media coverage of the Y-gens(born 1980-1995) and what made them so different to the rest to the work-force. These reports identified the accommodations and perks many companies were implementing to attract and retain younger workers. One of the claims made was that the Y Gen wanted to have fun at work. However, given the current economic downturn, is fun at work still a priority for this group?

Five characteristics of the Y generation

While the youthful Y gen may be attracted to fun, they still want to do a good job. However, they are interested in working smarter, not harder:

1.Looser work-life boundaries – the Y generation, in general, have looser boundaries between work and life, work and play. This may be because of modern technology, which allows work to happen any time, any place. They are also less formal. They may wonder why they should wear something different to work than home for instance. We sometimes read of workplaces with a large corpus of Y gens that provide recreational equipment ie pool tables, massage chairs, computer games. The Y gen like to know that they can have some play in work!

2.Require more flexibility – the Y gen take their out of work life very seriously. It could be said that they like to play in work and work in play. While they want to do a good job, they want to do it within work hours. For this reason, they are often looking for quicker, more innovative ways to complete work tasks.

3.Need to be listened to - the Y gen want to be respected and listened to for their ideas. They appreciate companies who are innovative and also appreciate the opportunity to be spontaneous and express themselves.

4.Value relationships – the Y gen are less impressed by status and value genuine relationships instead. They will show you respect, if you show them respect. Often the Y gen like to be coached, as this was how they were brought up by their parents and teachers at school. At work, they are collaborative, rather than strictly team players.

5.Are individualistic – the Y gen are more individualistic than previous generations. On the positive side, this is expressed as self-confidence and innovation. As such, they might value the opportunity to develop their own creative projects. This is why some companies will provide innovation time, say, 3 hours per fortnight, as a way of satisfying staff and harnessing their enthusiasm and creativity.

So, while the Y generation may value fun at work, it is not just a matter of fun and games. They are not merely a juvenile, youthful generation who needs pampered. However, neither will they simply accept being a slave to the job! No, Y genners want to work well, but expect to work the hours they are paid for. They want the time and freedom to also pursue other priorities. Because they have looser boundaries between work and life, they also expect some playfulness at work. They like social fun and value relationships of trust where they are listened to and respected. They also appreciate the opportunity to express their individuality through pursuing innovation and creative projects.

In Conclusion – Harness the unique Y gen approach!

While it might be more difficult for the Y Gen to pick and choose jobs than in the mid-noughties, employers will always benefit from a talented, committed workforce. During the recession the Y Gen's ability innovate, take on new challenges and explore more efficient ways of doing things, may be even more valuable. In order to make the most of these Y Gen skills, it continues to be necessary for employers to understand just what makes this group tick. This includes providing opportunities for the fun at work that they desire!
