*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
On the surface, my very first record producer back in the mid nineties seemed like the perfect match for me, and I actually travelled, especially, to another city AND country to work with him. We'd previously agreed on a couple of hundred dollars to record four tracks but by the time we'd begun laying down the first track, immediately after the first session, he hiked his fee to $5,000. What brought on the price hike? Well, I arrived by plane and booked myself into a five star hotel. Yes, he'd suddenly realized I wasn't poor. Unscrupulous he was, yes, and you won't believe what I did next. I went to the local Diners Club Rep and withdrew the money. I was so desperate to do this I couldn't see nor think straight. And I'm sure some of you reading this article can relate to this. Ever felt like you wanted something SO bad you didn't give a damn what it cost? Well, that's what it felt like for me at the time. Regrettably, I was so gullible I made the wrong move. I should've packed my bags and flown home. Let this be your red flag number one. If you ever run into this, don't ignore it. Take a moment to think. Reevaluate your predicament before you make any rash decisions. Sleep over it if you have to. You'll probably have a clearer head the next morning.
OK, so money all paid up and project underway full throttle when I discover his attitude in the studio is pretty much dictatorial. He pushes too hard and it's rather his way or no way and he's tactless. Not a very nice person to work with. I wasn't impressed. That's your red flag number two right there. If you can, book a trial session and agree on a small fee just to get to know your producer before you commission them. This would save you the hassle of having to work with someone you're not even comfortable with. Be picky about who you work with. You want a good product and you want to enjoy the experience. There's just as much fun in recording. It can be a magical experience when you work with people you have a good rapport and chemistry with.
And then I met multimillion selling record producer Tambi Fernando in London, who'd had numerous number one hits in the UK and had worked with top recording artists. We basically hit it off from the get-go. Excellent rapport, great chemistry and an absolute joy to work with he was. And we made good music. Not only did he have an incredible knack for drawing the best out of me, he made me—through my own effort—sound incredible. He was good at what he did. He brought the best out of an artist. Period! And when it comes to quality, there could be absolutely no comparison to my first producer. Never you mind the cost...it cost me one thousand pounds per track. Cheaper than the rip-off merchant I encountered in Mombasa. Your red flag number three? Indeed. Be on the lookout for that chemistry. That special connection between artist and producer will unlock your hidden talent and help you achieve the recording success you've always wanted.
And I can go on. There was the utterly disinterested producer I encountered in Manchester, UK. I was recording a track for an American music executive who'd hired an English producer to record my vocals. The producer had absolutely nothing in him. He was useless and the atmosphere in the studio was utterly inhospitable. It resulted in the project being cancelled after less than fifteen minutes of me being in the studio. In fact, we recorded nothing. So again, if you don't like the atmosphere and the producer you're working with isn't one bit interested, forget it! Don't waste your time. Tomorrow is another day. What more can I say?

We have not seen California health coverage this rich since...well it's been over a decade. The California Exchange has released their basic blue print for the four different Metallic health plans in California and at the top of the list is the new Platinum plan. Let's take a look at the core benefits and who it might make sense for. We'll also look at what we expect in terms of pricing which will be critical. You will be able to quote the Platinum plan both in and out of the Exchange here starting October 1st, 2013 for a Jan 1st, 2014 effective date.
The Core Platinum health plan benefits
You can find detail here on the core plan benefits but we'll hit the highlights below. Keep in mind that this is the baseline plan provided by the Exchange. Carriers can have slightly different versions of it and benefits by 4% but the overall coverage needs to stay close to the 90% actuarial value reflected in their baseline plan.
Platinum Plan Deductible
This is really the big deal with the Platinum core benefits. There will likely be no deductible for core benefits or for medication. We really haven't had a no-deductible health plans (non-HMO) for years now due to cost and the effects of years of rate increases.
Platinum Max out of Pocket and Coinsurance
The next big important benefit is the Max out of pocket which sums up when you can expect covered benefits (in-network) to go 100% to the carrier. The OOP (Out of Pocket Max) is listed at $4K which is better than almost any plan on the current market. The coinsurance (percentage that you will pay to meet the max) is 10% which makes the Platinum California Exchange plan a 90/10 plan. This is also very rich compared to the current market.
Office and RX copays
The plan lists a $25 primary physician visit copays and $50 for specialists. There are no limits on the number of visits a person can have. The RX copays are $5 generic, $15 brand formulary, and $25 brand non-formulary. Again, there is no deductible for brand RX which has been the norm on the market with some of the most popular plans having very large deductibles. Preventative benefits will be covered at 100%.
Diagnostic Lab and X-ray
This is the section that has seen the most change over the past 5 years on the California health market with the popularity and cost of MRI's, Cat-scans, x-rays, and the like. Labs will be covered with a $25 copay, x-rays will have a $40 copay, and imaging (MRI's, CAT scans, etc) will be subject to the 10% coinsurance (you pay 10%). This is extremely rich which brings us to the most important part of our analysis...what will the cost be for the California Platinum Health Plan?
The Platinum Plan Cost
If the past 10 years is any indication, the Platinum California plan will not have many takers with one exception...the very sick. Keep in mind that the subsidies available in California are only for the Bronze plan (in-Exchange). No subsidies will be available for the Platinum plan. The rich benefits are great but no one will likely pay the significantly higher premium that is required. The only people that might are those with very large medical costs. This attraction of higher risk is the generally very bad for any kind of insurance and it even has it's own technical name (adverse selection). Our estimate is that the Platinum health plan will likely make up 3-5% of the new enrollment at best and we see this dropping with time as a higher risk pool drives the premiums through the roof in year two or three. Very quickly the annual premium difference will more than offset the best possible benefit difference and the movement downward in benefits will accelerate.
Either way, you will be able to quote all the Metallic health plans including the Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Catastrophic (adults under 30) plans with or without health subsidies starting October 1st at www.calhealth.net

Article Title: The Chemistry Between Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds in "RIPD"

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
The hit summer film "RIPD" stars Jeff Bridges ("The Big Lebowski") and Ryan Reynolds ("The Proposal"), but putting those two actors together wasn't as easy as some fans might think. "RIPD" tells the story of a man named Nick (Reynolds), who becomes the member of a ghost police department after being gunned down on the job. Bridges portrays Ray, the man tasked with helping Nick understand how the force works. The two men, who appear to others as a gorgeous blond woman and an older Asian man, must fight nefarious spirits while saving the world.
Bridges was never the first choice for Ray, and early reports indicated that a comedian would take on the role. Zach Galifianakis originally signed on for the role of Ray, but a delay in filming led to the actor dropping out of the film. Galifianakis had already agreed to film "The Hangover Part III," and when the studio pushed back the start date of "RIPD," he had to leave the film. Some fans might also be surprised to learn that Jodie Foster ("Panic Room") also had a role in the film, but after she left the production, Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds") joined the cast.
Recasting the role of Ray with Bridges was a smart move, because he has delightful chemistry with Reynolds. Many people were a little surprised when the studio announced its casting, because the two actors share little in common. Reynolds is best known for his comedic roles, and while Bridges has done a few comedic roles, he's better known for his dramatic talents.
Canadian actor Reynolds got his start on several television shows in his home country. Though he appeared in a handful of American productions, he got his big break with a starring role in "National Lampoon's Van Wilder." The film starred Reynolds as Van Wilder, a man who seems happier stuck in college than living life in the real world. Only after forming some new friendships and meeting the right woman does he realize that he's ready to leave college behind.
Reynolds followed up that performance with roles in other comedies, including "Waiting...," "Adventureland," and "The Proposal." He also showed that he had a dramatic side with roles in films such as "Buried" and "Safe House." The actor also took on the iconic character in "Green Lantern," but the film grossed less than $120 million at the box office on its $100 million budget. Though the studio hoped it would relaunch the DC Comics character, its poor performance stopped the studio's plans for a sequel.
Though a strong actor, Reynolds is sometimes better known for his relationships offscreen. He dated singer Alanis Morissette for more than five years, but despite a long engagement, they ended their relationship. He later dated and married actress Scarlett Johansson ("The Avengers"). After their divorce, he started dating actress Blake Lively ("Gossip Girl"), whom he met on the set of "Green Lantern" and later married. The two mentioned in interviews that they hoped to work together again in the future.
Bridges has a long career that dates back to 1950, when he landed a role as an infant. Though he acted in a handful of films and television shows as a child and teen, it wasn't until the late 1960s that he decided to really focus on his career. At the age of just twenty-two, he earned an Academy Award nomination for his film "The Last Picture Show." Bridges also received Oscar nominations for his work in "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot," "Starman," "The Contender," and "True Grit." He won his first Academy Award in 2009 for "Crazy Heart," which also gave him the chance to show his musical side. The actor released two albums, and the second made it to number twenty-five on the charts.
Like Reynolds, Bridges has a history of success in comic-book films and sci-fi films. He played the main villain in "Iron Man," and he played the lead in the 1980s film "Tron" before returning for the sequel, "Tron: Legacy." Bridges also has the same love of comedy that Reynolds has. One of his best-known roles was as the Dude in "The Big Lebowski." The film launched an annual festival, Entertainment Weekly named his character one of the best characters in film history, and the Belgian Film Critics Association nominated the film for its Grand Prix award.
When the studio announced that Reynolds and Bridges would headline its film "RIPD," some wondered if these two actors could pull off a dark and gritty film that walks the line between sci-fi and horror. Given each actor's history of success, this film might be the surprise hit of the summer.

-- Rating: R (Language)
Length: 75 minutes
Release Date: July 3, 2013
Directed by: Leslie Small, Tim Story
Genre: Comedy/Documentary
Stars: 3 out of 5
Any movie that takes the form of a stand-up comedy special is going to have a certain pattern imposed on it. The successful annual comedy tour that's capped off by a singular performance in front of a sold out crowd in a world-class venue is a pattern that was pioneered by the likes of George Carlin and Louis CK in a series of performances dating back to the 1980s. As a genre, the stand-up comedy movie has actually developed less than almost any other form. It would be perhaps too easy to assume that this is because the style achieved perfection as far back as 1990, but it is most likely a result of the restrictions imposed on the genre by its very material. After all, there are only so many ways to dress and light a stage, as there are only so many ways to introduce a comedian. Most of the really original ideas for presentation were hit upon by the time Robin Williams released "Live at the Met."
This restricting form, and lack of flexibility, hasn't noticeably damaged the genre. The comedy emphasis, far more so than in any other genre, has always been on the content and the delivery unique to that one performer. Essentially, the window dressing doesn't have to change, as the material is in constant flux, and fresh is the name of the game.
In "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain," the title character tries something new. For almost the first time in decades, a successful comedian has tinkered with the basic form of the stand-up movie. Where in the past, a comedian would either come right out on stage after only a brief introduction, or at most after a short skit, fully half of "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" consists of the opening skit. Either the concept of "opening comedy skit" has been stretched out to cover far more of the film's runtime than ever before, or else Kevin Hart has broken with convention and is now pursuing something entirely new in the genre. It is through this sort of experiment that progress is always made in the arts, which makes "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" especially interesting as a specimen.
The first part of "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" features only a hint of the stand-up to come, featuring instead a retrospective on Hart's fan base and a somewhat drawn-out short story in film that stars Hart, seven other actors who are identified as Plastic Cup Boyz,-the meaning of which is clear on viewing-and a number of actresses who are identified in the credits as either Dark Skin Sister or Light Skin Sister. The opening segment of the movie seems heavily influenced by Hart's extensive work in television, with a special emphasis on storytelling and narrative development that's totally unexpected in a comedy show.
The second part of "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" is by far the more conventional of the two. This section, which spans the last thirty minutes of the show, is an absolutely straightforward stand-up routine. Every element is there, from the oddly dressed, brightly lit background to the equally oddly dressed performer himself, this time wearing what looks like a shiny black jumpsuit. Hart's jokes-as is the case for any comedian-are thoroughly spoiled by repetition, so they will be left to the viewer to judge.
It is worth noting that the actual stand-up part of the movie was filmed at a live performance in front of a packed house at Madison Square Garden. For a comedian to pack this venue to the rafters, as Hart has clearly done here, has traditionally been the crown jewel in the career of a stand-up comedian. Hart seems as comfortable on the stage as another man might be in his own living room; a reflection, perhaps, of Hart's more than twenty years in the business and the ease that comes with it.
The stage is well lit and wired for sound, which eliminates distracting technical considerations for the second half of the film. The first part is the more complex, from a technical standpoint, and it is carried off with the skill that's to be expected from a team of experienced filmmakers such as the ones Hart has surrounded himself with.
Experiments are always risky, and those who experiment with their very bread and butter are to be congratulated for bravely showing the way forward for younger filmmakers. "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" has the distinction of breathing new life into an old and established genre. It isn't possible to predict whether this is going to be a footnote to the stand-up form, or the start of something entirely new. Either way, it bears watching.

With so much focus on vampires in the public consciousness, other supernatural creatures such as ghosts have been relegated to the wayside. That's all about to change with the July 2013 release of "RIPD" starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. Like many ghost tales before it, the film is likely destined to be compared to "Ghostbusters," which is considered by many to be the standard-bearer for ghost-related movies. How does "RIPD" compare to "Ghostbusters," and is the upcoming film really just an updated version of the 1984 classic?
"RIPD" stands for the Rest In Peace Department, which is a special, shadowy department of the regular police. It is something of a dead officers' unit in which ghostly ex-cops continue to serve and protect even though they are now deceased. Just like regular police officers, these officers are tasked with protecting living humans, but instead of protecting them from other humans, they protect them from ghosts. It turns out that not all spirits are as benign as the members of the RIPD; some mean to harm or even kill people. Nick Cruz Walker (Reynolds) is a recently deceased cop who has been assigned to the RIPD to partner up with a veteran of the supernatural department, Roy Pulsipher (Bridges).
Together, the new partners must arrest souls who have died but haven't moved on to the afterlife, instead choosing to disguise themselves as living people in order to escape judgment. Nick and Roy are responsible for getting them to cross over to the other side, because otherwise, the tunnel that takes people to the afterlife could begin to malfunction. If this tunnel stops working, evil spirits may begin to come back to earth instead of the other way around, which could greatly upset the cosmic balance of the planet. Nick and Roy realize this and work tirelessly to stop the ghosts who would love to see the balance upset.
"Ghostbusters" follows the rise and near-fall of the Ghostbusters, a team of men who investigate supernatural occurrences that involve ghosts. Since these ghosts seem bent on scaring humans and sometimes causing damage to the world around them, they must be stopped. The problem is that most people don't believe in ghosts and think that the Ghostbusters are a scam of sorts. Still, they begin getting semi-steady work catching and containing ghosts until an agent of the Environmental Protection Agency forces them to rerelease all the ghosts they've captured into the world at once, which wreaks havoc on the city. Suddenly, people believe in ghosts and call upon the disgraced Ghostbusters to save their bacon when an otherworldly demon tries to take over the planet.
On the surface, "RIPD" and "Ghostbusters seem to have more differences than similarities. For starters, the heroes of "RIPD" are ghosts themselves, battling other ghosts to try and keep people from dying. In "Ghostbusters," each of the heroes is decidedly human and very much mortal, so they can (and nearly do) die as a result of their battle with the evil spirits. In "RIPD," Nick and Roy are already dead and don't have as much to fear as the Ghostbusters do. This is especially true of Roy, who has been a veteran of the Rest In Peace Department for many a year and has seen and heard just about everything. He shows no fear and works with the chutzpah of someone who can't be surprised anymore, even by ghosts.
"Ghostbusters" is not a buddy cop movie and really isn't an action movie either, especially when compared to "RIPD" Despite this, the two movies share some very similar elements, which is why they will likely be compared to each other by critics once "RIPD" goes into wide release. The biggest similarity is that the ghosts in each film that must be captured or stopped are part of a much bigger plan to unleash some much more evil spirits onto the planet. These evil spirits intend to take over and either eliminate humans or enslave them.
"RIPD" is not really a modern version of "Ghostbusters," but the two films have enough humor and similar plot points to make them at least comparable. At its heart, "RIPD" is still a cop movie with a supernatural element, whereas "Ghostbusters" is a comedy with a supernatural element. Either way, both are highly enjoyable films. "Ghostbusters" was a huge hit, and "RIPD" may be as well if it lives up to its box-office potential upon its July 19, 2013, release.

Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Length: 101 minutes
Release Date: July 7, 2013
Directed by: Michael Winterbottom
Genre: Biography/Comedy/Drama
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Paul Raymond (Steve Coogan) went from a humble beginning to emerge as one of the most notorious men in recent British history. He did so by opening England's first strip club, which made him enough money to go on and become a very successful real estate developer and publisher of pornographic magazines, the latter cemented his place as one of the richest men in the country. The story of his rise to fame, infamy, and fortune is at the heart of "The Look of Love."
Raymond opens that first strip club under fire because lots of people think he is bringing down decency standards and changing the fabric of society. Raymond disagrees with these assertions and uses some of the money he earns from his highly successful club to start a publishing empire, releasing titles such as Men Only and Escort among others. He smartly diversifies his holdings, investing in real estate all over the Soho neighborhood of London, which is how he gets the heady moniker, King of Soho. He throws lavish, hedonistic parties full of drugs and booze and with women who aren't bothered by the fact the reputed lothario has a wife and child waiting for him at home.
While Raymond is busy being the King of Soho to the outside world, things aren't so sunny in his personal life. His wife Jean (Anna Friel), tired of his constant philandering, takes him to divorce court where a bitter battle for his millions ensues.
He begins to groom his beloved daughter Debbie (Imogen Poots) to take over the company when he is ready to retire. Debbie, fighting demons of her own, tragically dies of a heroin overdose before she can take over the keys to the kingdom. This sends Raymond into a tailspin from which he may never recover. Sure, he has two sons, but he is never as close to them as he was to Debbie, who was the light of his life. Even with his remaining two children supporting him, Raymond becomes a shell of himself, putting his entire publishing and real estate empire in jeopardy.
Coogan turns in a fantastic performance as Raymond, who was one of the most powerful men in all the UK in his heyday. He gives a performance worthy of that power, portraying Raymond's often hedonistic ways with ease. Coogan's performance is finely layered, as the audience is acutely aware that no matter how crazy Raymond occasionally acts at a party, he always knows what he is doing. The man is always in control, even in drunkenness, because he doesn't really know any other way to be. Coogan delivers his lines with the cool confidence of someone who is always aware of his surroundings and what everyone is doing. This is Coogan's fourth film with director Michael Winterbottom, who previously directed him in "24 Hour Party People," "A Cock and Bull Story," and "The Trip." This is arguably the most complex character Coogan has had to play in any of their collaborations, but his familiarity with and trust in Winterbottom helps coax out an outstanding portrayal.
Another reason Coogan succeeds is because he has good material to work with in the form of the film's screenplay. Writer Matt Greenhalgh has slowly and quietly made the transition from television writer to screenwriter, with "The Look of Love" being just his fourth full-length movie script. Though he also occasionally dabbles in directing shorts or being an assistant director on larger productions, it is fairly clear that he is a writer at heart. It isn't easy to write a film based on a real person, especially one as notorious as Paul Raymond, but much ink had already been spilled over the man and the many myths surrounding him, so Greenhalgh had plenty to work with. Some of the stories about Raymond contradict each other, but Greenhalgh is careful to put together a script that lays out a clear picture of the man. The script is crafted well and paced perfectly for a film in this genre.
Raymond was known for bringing nudity to Great Britain and was a notorious womanizer to boot. Some may think that this made him a misogynist, but the opposite was actually true. He loved strong women and surrounded himself with them, not the least of which was his wife Jean, who is played by Friel with guts and gusto. Though Coogan's performance obviously stands out here, it is important to note that the women of this film nearly steal the show with feisty performances that are a happy revelation in a surprisingly good film.

What happens when a popular police officer dies and discovers that not all law enforcement officials stay dead? The studio behind "RIPD" hopes that viewers want to watch the film and find out for themselves. Ryan Reynolds ("Green Lantern") plays Nick, a police officer who dies and finds himself transferred to the RIPD, where he must learn the rules of the world with the help of Roy Pulsipher (Jeff Bridges, "Crazy Heart"). Once fans learn more about the filming and production of the film, they might appreciate "RIPD" even more.
Based on a Comic Book
Before it was a hit Hollywood film, the story was actually a comic book written by Peter M. Lenkov. Lenkov wrote the screenplays for the films "Demolition Man" and "Son in Law," and he has also worked on television shows such as "Haunted Lives: True Ghost Stories" and "Hawaii Five-O." He worked on the story behind "RIPD" for Dark Horse Entertainment, which also released the original "Witchblade" comics. Lenkov won the Bram Stoker Award for Best Illustrated Narrative for the comic "Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained."
In the comic book, Nick is a police officer who willingly joins the RIPD after learning that he can find and bring down the man responsible for his death. The only stipulation is that he must work for the department for 100 years, no matter how long it takes him to seek his revenge. Some fans of the comic will wonder how closely the film follows that storyline, because early trailers show some humorous scenes that weren't in the comics.
Goodbye Jodie Foster
Jodie Foster is a two-time Academy Award winner for Best Actress, and film fans immediately started whispering when Universal Studios announced she signed on for the film. Foster typically takes on dark and gritty films that show the strength of her acting. She won an Oscar for "The Silence of the Lambs," and her more recent roles included films such as "Panic Room" and "The Brave One." Many thought Foster would give the film a darker and more serious tone, but some wondered why she would star in such a film. After Foster left the role, Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds") joined the cast.
What Happened to Zach Galifianakis?
Zach Galifianakis is one of the best comedic actors of the last few years. Though the actor appeared in several films and on television, he rose to fame thanks to his role in "The Hangover." That film helped him launch a career that included two sequels to the film and roles in "Due Date" and several other popular films. When he announced his role in "RIPD," fans knew the film would be funny.
Those fans were disappointed when Galifianakis dropped out before filming began. Galifianakis claimed that filming interfered with his role in "Southern Rivals," which also starred Will Ferrell. "Southern Rivals" later became "The Campaign," and that film arrived in theaters in September 2012. By the time Galifianakis realized he could still do "RIPD," the studio had already cast Jeff Bridges in his role.
Avoiding Competition
Summer is the season of the Hollywood blockbuster, and studios want their films to come out on top. Before "RIPD" landed in theaters, Universal Studios announced a release date of June 28, 2013. When the studio realized the competition it faced, it pushed back the release date by almost a month. As it's a sci-fi film, the studio didn't want to compete against the big-budget film "World War Z," and it realized that parents might take their kids to see "Monsters University." It also faced competition from "The Heat" and "White House Down," both of which came out on the same date.
By releasing the film in July, the studio avoided going head to head with similar films in the genre. The only sci-fi film coming out in July is "Pacific Rim," and that comes out more than a week before "RIPD" does. Universal Studios hopes that by releasing the film closer to the end of the summer, it can garner more viewers.
The Comic-Book Connection
"RIPD" has a number of connections to the comic-book world. Reynolds previously took on the role of Green Lantern in the film of the same name, and the studio behind that film hopes to begin working on a sequel by the end of 2013. Parker played a lead role in the Bruce Willis film "Red," which was first a graphic novel. The director of "RIPD" is Robert Schwentke, who also directed "Red." The film also stars Kevin Bacon, who appeared in "X-Men: First Class," and Stephanie Szostak from "Iron Man 3." Based on a popular comic book, "RIPD" is a sci-fi film that tells a dark and sometimes funny story. Those who watch the film might enjoy it even more after learning some of the fun facts behind the film, including its connections to comic books and the stars who dropped out of the film.

Rating: PG-13 (Drug references, language)
Length: 113 min
Release date: March 15, 2012
Directed by: Drew DeNicola, Olivia Mori
Genre: Documentary
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
"Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" is a 2012 documentary film by directors Drew DeNicola and Olivia Mori, which tells the story of a renowned Memphis band called Big Star. They may not have made it to the top of the charts, but the band certainly developed a cult following among country and rock fans. Although Big Star only produced three albums, those albums changed the course of music by influencing such music legends as REM, Elliot Smith, and the Flaming Lips.
The life of a rock legend is often filled with controversy and drama, and that goes double for struggling musicians who never quite made it to the top. The documentary provides an interesting look into the mystery of success in the music industry. Big Star certainly wasn't lacking in talent and inspiration, as evidenced by their all-star list of fans. The film takes a deeper look inside the lives of Big Star's members and examines what they did wrong and, more importantly, all the things they did right.
"Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" follows the journey of the band from their formation to the pinnacle of their success. The film includes testimonials and commentary from those who had significant roles in producing the band's music as well as famous artists who were influenced by Big Star's music. REM, the Replacements, Pete Yorn, and the Flaming Lips are just a few famous guest appearances used to connect photos and videos of the band with a modern day audience. The directors managed to uncover large amounts of unseen footage, photos, and live performance clips, making "Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" a definitive source for fans new and old.
Alex Chilton, the band's famous frontman, was no stranger to success. The documentary follows Chilton's musical career long after Big Star collapsed as a band, covering his reasonably popular 1978 single, "Can't Seem to Make You Mine." The song came out in the same year as the band's former guitarist, Chris Bell, produced his influential single, "I Am the Cosmos." The two singles are contrasted visually and musically, showing how unique each artist was and how they influenced the atmosphere of the band.
Directors DeNicola and Mori manage to do with this film what many documentary makers strive for but fail to accomplish. Even while discussing why Big Star failed to become a mainstream hit, the film focuses on the qualities of the band's music that inspired so many legendary musicians that came after them. "Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" introduces Big Star's music to a whole new generation of music lovers while connecting the band's work with modern music tastes. Chris Bell, Alex Chilton, Jody Stephens, and Andy Hummel will resonate with fans of modern rock just as well as classic fans, thanks to the masterful job this documentary does of making their music come to life like never before. Big Star's music is remastered and their performances are shown in high quality that makes the audience feel as if they have center stage seating at a vintage concert.
"Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" is the ultimate homage to the classic band. While Big Star had a short music career, their music affected the world of rock in such a deep way that their influence can be found in numerous modern bands and genres. The documentary highlights the ups and downs of their careers while focusing on the band members and their personal lives and struggles. "Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" is a realistic, often gritty portrayal of what it meant to be in a rock band in the 1970s. While there are plenty of documentaries about bands who made it, this one is unique in that it focuses on a band that had all the right qualities that never quite got them where they wanted to be.
Strangely enough, "Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" actually gives Big Star the recognition they worked so long and hard to achieve. While the band may not have multiple platinum records, it's obvious from the documentary that they have influenced the work of other musicians just as much as bands that reach the top of the charts on a regular basis. For this reason, DeNicola and Mori have earned their own place in the rock and roll documentary hall of fame. Whether you are a long-time fan of Big Star or simply a music fan looking to learn a little more about one of the bands who inspired the legends you love today, "Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me" is an entertaining and informative film to see.

The main secret to finding discount car insurance is taking the time to compare several insurance companies' rates and policies. But it doesn't stop there. The market is filled with hundreds of providers offering policies with insurance coverage that are slightly different. The differences are really the secret to finding the best discounts available.
Not all insurance providers can be trusted. Some will pay-off when it comes to a claim or accident, while others will deny all sorts of claims for a variety of reasons. Buying car insurance from a company that systematically denies claims is like driving down the road with hardly any coverage at all.
The best way to find out about car insurance providers is to conduct research on companies in your state after getting their quotes to start with online. All the quotes should be for the same coverage limits, and they're easy to get with a quick search of hundreds of competing companies at Wise Insurance Quotes.com, which provides news on insurance to save consumers money.
After conducting your search, keep a record of the quotes, know what they cover and compare them to the others. Another secret to getting discount car insurance is to review the policies on at least an annual basis. Sticking with one service provider is a reliable option, but the problem is that in this competitive day and age carriers' increase rates for practically any reason they chose on a regular basis.
Fighting for lower car insurance takes work, including. First do your homework, plenty of research to make sure any company you are considering a policy with has sufficient assets to cover claims. The Internet is accessible to many people today who are good Samaritans and have found the formula to trust for good coverage.
Each year it is important to review policies. In most cases, providers tend to ignore or forget about certain clients. New amendments might exclude prior coverage and make changes to limit others. Checking with providers regularly will insure proper coverage and eliminate surprises.
However, if your car is older and the value of the vehicle is below a certain amount it might be best to drop collision coverage since you won't get much for it in the case of an accident. This could save a lot of money on car insurance premiums.
Reviewing your current auto insurance policy, if you have one, is an important part of the process to determine which aspects of your old policy are no longer applicable. If your car is more than seven years old, it might not be worthwhile to cover it with collision coverage. Consider options that may be financially beneficial, and talk it over with your insurance agent to see what your best options are.
It is also highly advised against putting new drivers or teenage drivers under your current policy. This is a common mistake made by most parents when their kids get to driving age. But if your teen has an accident it can have a major effect on your insurance premiums, which can be daunting. For more information on this and how to obtain the best discount car insurance rates available visit Wise Insurance Quotes.com

Broadly speaking, an affiliate marketing business model involves a company recruiting and signing up individuals (affiliates) who sell its products for a reward. This reward may be either monetary or non-monetary depending on products or services affiliates sell.
In the United States, some people make a decent amount of money as affiliate marketers. According to figures published by the Performance Marketing Association, the number of people and businesses engaged in this area of marketing currently stands at more than 200,000. In addition, marketers in this field will generate revenues of more than $4 billion by 2014, according to the US Affiliate Marketing Forecast. With this in mind, read on to learn more about the benefits of working as a marketer in this area of business.
Low Risk Business Opportunity
Marketing online as an affiliate is a low-risk, high-return business opportunity. You do not necessarily have to invest huge amounts of borrowed money or personal savings to get started. Depending on the type of business that you choose, you can start with next to zero investment. For example, to work as an affiliate marketer online, all you need is internet access and a computer. Most Americans have access to the internet as well as a wide range of internet-enabled devices such as laptops and mobile devices.
Be your Own Boss
Unlike traditional blue-collar jobs, affiliate marketers enjoy flexible working hours and environment. It is up to you to decide when you want to work and for how long. You can work from home, while on holiday, work 24 hours, and even when travelling. Statistics from the 2012 Affiliate Summit AffStat Report show that 55.7 percent of affiliate marketers work from home. Blue-collar workers can only dream of such flexibility.
Minimal Working Experience
In order to get a blue-collar job, one has to meet a slew of requirements including academic qualifications, references, working experience, background checks, and even drug tests. Remember fulfilling all these requirements does not guarantee one a job.
To work as a marketer on the internet, you need minimal working experience. In fact, you can wake up, sign up as an online affiliate marketer, and start working immediately. In addition, most web-based marketing programs provide training whenever it is necessary.
No Glass Ceiling
In the corporate world, only a few people crack the glass ceiling. This is not the case in the affiliate marketing business landscape. It is up to you to decide how high you want to fly. However, you must be willing and ready to work hard in order to turn your dreams into reality.
Wide range of Products
Some people working from eight to five do not really love their jobs or employers. They are simply working to get a pay-check at the end of the month. The beauty of working as an affiliate marketer is you can choose a product niche that you love and run with it.
Running an marketing marketing business in this field is a great way to earn money. Benefits of working in the affiliate marketing business include low-risk, high-return business opportunity, no glass ceiling to worry about, minimal working experience required, wide range of products, as well as working at your own pace.

A new software to help people again traction in the ever growing world of personally written Kindle Books is here. The AK Elite Software is from the maker of the SEO Elite software used to boost ranking on Google and see competitors ranking. With this new software you can create an Amazon reputation that will have Amazon advertising for you. There are a few flaws however.
The AK Elite has many features that are crucial to being successful in the Kindle Book store. The book store doesn't track anything for you and to do it your self is time consuming. This software is simplified and easy to use. The format is neat and professional along with all of the additions you can buy to go along with it. The AK Elite Ranking software brings attention to your Kindle book, which make Amazon more interesting in the selling and earning of you book to create more buzz Amazon puts advertising of you product in multiple places making it even easier to make money. You spend less time and energy and make more money. The software is equipped with the must know's of the kindle book store and on how to up sell competitors.
Cons of this software are apparent. All the must have features are for additional costs. In the AK Elite Book Maker Software you can just enter the text for an entire chapter, click a button, and you have a premade zip file that you can easily upload to Amazon this addition is $97 USD. In the next upsell The AK Analytics, you have ability to track and see who is interested in your Kindle book and where their traffic came from. This allows you to pin point advertise and create more buzz about your book, this addition is also $97 USD. Now one of the main things in having a successful Kindle Book is to have great reviews, and in the last upsell you can buy other peoples books and review them and then they do the same pretty much buying your way to making money. All those features are available in the AK Elite Book Club upsell for an additional $47 USD. So not only do you have to pay $147 for the AK Elite Software but you also have to pay for add on that are extremely important to being successful with this software.
The upsells are great and wonderfully crafted but to have to pay for things that seem so essential to the process of being successful just doesn't make sense. The software its self is great and put together nicely. If the software alone offered more then the additional fee for the upsells wouldn't seem so outrageous but they are main things anyone that wants to make money fast in the Kindle Book Store would need. It's not the price all together that makes this a so-so review it's also the breaking up of what seems like fundamental building blocks.

Research suggests that staff who have fun at work, believe that they also provide more effective customer service. So, how can we make customer service more fun?
1. Offer staff training on how to make customer service fun – Research shows that customer service staff can be taught strategies to help them have fun at work. This involves finding ways to be themselves with customers, in order to create genuine, meaningful interactions. Strategies include mirroring back body language; smiling to create rapport; engaging with customers using a similar kind of energy. In the first instance, if customers are happy, be jovial back; short of time, be polite and efficient and so on.
2. Take staff wellbeing seriously – Workplace wellness initiatives often generate opportunities for staff to have fun and feel valued. Team challenges provide an opportunity for a bit of friendly competitiveness; visits from an expert to check workstation set-up or other occupational issues provide opportunities for staff to share concerns about any pain and discomfort; and healthy food programs, can help staff to feel that someone cares. People tend to have more fun in environments where they feel cared for.
3. Communicate well and listen to staff concerns - Keep communication open, taking the time to explain any workplace changes. Be available to talk to staff and take seriously any concerns. Employees need to feel free to share both work and non work concerns, that may impact on work. Healthy, open communication helps to generate an atmosphere of trust – an important condition for generating fun and satisfaction at work.
4. Affirm and reward staff – Everyone likes to feel valued and appreciated for their contribution. Simple, specific praise goes a long way. Rewards can include simple thank-you, cards, certificates, prizes, special discounts and bonuses. Sometimes a company may not have a great deal of discretionary spending. However, if a manager knows their staff, they will know the kinds of rewards that will help that person feel special.
5. Provide opportunities for informal and planned fun events – research shows that opportunities for friendship at work are highly valued by many workers. For customer service staff, it can be useful to have collegial time together, away from the public. In this way they can let off some steam and create important friendly connections. These connections will help them to feel supported and equip them to better handle busy and potentially stressful periods at work.
6. Reduce unnecessary stress – When we feel stressed it is hard to have much fun. The five strategies above can help to reduce unnecessary stress for employees. Other strategies include providing appropriate breaks, product training, dealing with high work-load issues, providing training on stress management, giving workers some control over their work-space and allowing opportunities for debriefing after difficult customer service interactions.
These six strategies will help to make customer service fun for your staff and increase job satisfaction. This in turn should lead to better customer service. So go to it, start promoting some fun at work today!

A Limited Liability Company (LLC) is one of the newest types of business organization structure that combines the characteristics of other business types. It is often referred to as the hybrid of sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. Due to its newness, there may be various issues that can arise when businesses in form a LLC.
When a business decides to form a LLC, its pros and cons should be considered first. This is to ensure that the owner understand what the implications this move brings. The organizational structure of the company as well as its operational processes would definitely be affected by this choice of business type.
Consider these factors when putting up a LLC:
Pros:
A LLC is very famous for its flexibility. With this type of structure, one member or more can establish the business easily. It can be formed online, at the office, or at home. Also, this allows full management or control of the business with an operating agreement made by the owner and other members. The free control over the operating agreement enables the company to establish its own rules and protective provisions for all its members.
Another benefit when a business chooses to form a LLC is the informal or less complicated business process. Unlike a corporation, a LLC can operate in an informal manner. This spares the members from attending annual meetings. Also, certain documentation are not strictly required. However, it is still advisable to keep records of business transactions for audit purposes or for any other future need.
Protection of assets is one of the most important advantages of a LLC. In this type of business, the owners of the company are not individually liable for any of the company's financial obligations. Passed through taxation is also automatic and therefore lessens the amount of taxes paid by the company.
Cons:
Businesses that opt to form LLC may also face some limitations. Even if this business type is very flexible, there are also restrictions to its membership and operation. First, if the LLC reaches more than 20 members, there is a definite need for a manager. A manager is needed to oversee the progress of the business and to keep it organized. Hiring a manager for the LLC presents additional expenses to the business. Also, the LLC may be dissolved if one member quits. However, there are provisions in the state laws which can address this problem.
The LLC can also restrict the flow of the business profits and stocks. The LLC is not authorized to split the overall profit and loss to its members. Aside from that, raising capital in a limited liability business is difficult. This limitation results in the investors' preference for a corporation instead of a LLC. Additionally, the members cannot sell and issue stock certificates.
Lastly, the LLC may pose some fee and taxation issues. This involves payment of taxes for the limited liability benefit of a LLC business. Also, the annual fee of LLC in some states is higher compared to other structures of business.

Article Title: Points to Ponder When Planning a Business

One of the worst mistakes of someone planning a business is saying that you already know everything. The more they try to tell themselves that, the less work is accomplished. Try focusing on a few points.
-Business Plan
Start-up businesses are not always spur-of-the moment type of establishments even if some grilling joints claim that it's borne out of cooking bar chow for drinking buddies. If start-ups with a plan still fail, what more for those who didn't plan? Taking time to sit together with potential partners and going through the necessary steps in planning a business puts order and direction into the setting up stage as well as the implementation stage whether it is an LLC or any other type of business entity.
-Budget
Of course, just as in any other state, the economy is not rosy. But that doesn't mean that enterprising businessmen should stop looking for funding for their business. You can get a loan using the business plan or feasibility study to show the bank how the money being borrowed will be spent. The budget should be realistic enough to include details about all operating expenses such as those that would be spent for office supplies, equipment, rental expenses, and other miscellaneous items. If ever an audit arises, at least you have a paper trail to keep track of the expenses.
-Customers
When planning a business, it is important to identify who your customers will be. This information should be taken further to pinpoint where these customers will be found and how the company will be able to reach out to them. This is important especially for LLCs and smaller businesses without much capital to spend on advertising and promotions. Identifying opportunities and zeroing in on high customer density areas is a wise move.
-Products and Services
Planning a business, of course, involves having solid products and services to offer. Even if you have a huge market to speak of, having products and services that are not good enough or are simply passable in quality would not cut it. In today's market, consumers find it a lot easier to express what they don't like in a product or service rather than what they liked about it. You have to listen to your customers and learn to distinguish between constructive criticism from plain bashing.
-Spending Time
Whether you have an LLC or any other type of business, you have to make sure that you devote enough time in running the businesses. The problem with some business owners is that they do not pay much attention to their operations and leave everything to their managers. When planning a business, you should likewise plan how you would allocate your time in running your business. This is especially true for some business owners who have other important concerns to take care of such as in the case of someone who is still employed with another company while running his own business.

You may not think about it at first glance, in fact, most people don't think about the little animals that are crawling, living, and working on destroying their yards, home, and more. They are hidden in plain view and they can create a world of chaos after a lot of time. Something as miniscule as a red fire ant can crawl along and nest within your foot's reach and then strike with fury and cause a world of pain. This sort of issue is not uncommon for homeowners that have dealt with problems in the past, but no matter how many times people are warned, the same issue occurs. It's that sort of issue that should relegate you to look into calling pest control Sydney, and make sure that you are well protected against little things that you may not see with the naked eye. In fact, there are several reasons why you might want to invest in services of this type.
The first major reason is simple, you can't be prepared for everything, it's just impossible. Sure, you could try your best to make sure that your garden and yard is safe, and you could even try to make sure that your home is protected, but what about the walls? You may not be able to see or even detect that termites are starting to eat away at the wooden areas that are in and around your domicile. It's that sort of issue that requires an expert eye because only they will know what to look for in case you might have the early onset of a nest that is going to cause you thousands of dollars in damages.
Perhaps one of the more simple reasons to call pest control services is to ensure that problems that arise are eradicated with care and they do not return. You may find yourself purchasing an over the counter solution to get rid of pests, but that will not work like industrial strength chemicals. When you call in a professional, they will have the highest grade pesticide that will kill the bugs completely and not only that, they will set you up with something that will keep them from coming back, and if they do, they'll return to fix the issue and keep on helping until you are free of the problem for good.
Peace of mind will begin to settle when you know that you and your family are protected from pests such as bees, ants, flies, and so much more that can easily show up under the radar. Even the most vigilant homeowner can miss a hornet's nest or a hive that is brewing just around the corner of their view. It's for the unseen problems that it's important to search online for things like pest control Sydney and find someone local that will come and help you not only identify potential issues, but help get rid of them with the right options. Don't try to do it on your own, let someone that dedicates their life to killing pests take control, you'll be glad you did.

There are a lot of different things that could go wrong with your property, and not everything is in regards to structural damage. There are some things that can in fact cause issues, even though things can remain somewhat hidden. For instance, you could have to deal with insects that seem harmless at first glance, but can completely break down your home or place of work. Whether you have to deal with termites, or you have to eradicate roaches, or any other type of small pest, you will find that doing it on your own is not effective enough. It's for that reason that you should explore the benefits of calling professional pest control services to assist.
Not everything is on the surface, and this is especially true for bugs that like to eat away at the wood, and other structures that make up the home you're living in or the office you work at. Many times no one even sees an issue until something goes drastically wrong. You may even spray for certain things and miss them completely, because they are not seen. Instead of trying to fight a silent killer, call a professional to come in and inspect and they will be able to not only find weak points but also spray and create a barrier that will shield you in the long term.
Aside from eradicating nests, and other problems, you can guarantee that you will not have to deal with the problems associated with a large variety of pests. Some things are not inherently dangerous, but they can leave behind diseased things and cause a lot of problems for those that are living or working in and around them. From roaches to water bugs, it's best not to have to deal with them on a regular basis as they can prove to be vexing to say the least. The biggest benefit of calling in an expert is that you will get peace of mind as to what's going on outside of your property.
Peace of mind is hard to put a price on, and it becomes every so clear when you start to look into the problems associated with different bugs that can show up unannounced. Even things small that don't seem to be problematic at first, could turn out to be complicated and painful. For instance, if you have ants and they are cannibalistic, you could end up getting bit all over, and the bites are not only painful they can get infected, and if you're dealing with infestation getting rid of them is going to take more than just some over the counter spray that you can purchase.
No matter what the problem is, you can reap the rewards of peace of mind, clear property, and safe guard yourself, family, and friends from having to deal with pests by calling in professional services. It's far better to get someone knowledgeable to work with than to try and figure it out all on your own, as you may miss out on a sign that may be hidden in plain sight.

For centuries, highly skilled artisans have been crafting beautiful, functional masterpieces we now call Oriental rugs. These works of art are hand-woven of natural fibers and made in the geographical regions of the Near, Middle, and Far East, as well as the Balkans. There is a rich history involved in the making of Oriental rugs, and these traditions continue today, often with awe-inspiring results.
Shopping for the perfect area rug for your space can be a challenge but by keeping an eye on the basic construction of great quality rugs and their benefits you can make this process much easier.
How a rug is constructed will generally impact the overall cost and quality of a rug. It seems logical right?
While some rugs are trendy and interchangeable, others (generally the more expensive) can be considered investment pieces.
Typically the most labor-intensive technique used to make rugs is hand-knotting. This is where most invest. The surface, (also known as the pile) of a rug is built of tiny, individual knots tied by weavers.
These rugs can take up to many years to complete and are as unique as they come. Hand-knotted rugs are usually more durable than others lasting anywhere from 25 – hundreds of years. While this type of rug does shed, it will not shed as much as other constructions.
Tufted and hooked rugs use a similar technique. If you look close you can see the loops of yarn that were pulled through a mesh backing material to create the pile. The weaver follows a pattern on the backing material and uses a small tool to place the loops.
Tufted rugs' loops are then sheared to create a smooth surface while hooked rugs' loops are left intact. Because of this difference, tufted rugs tend to shed more easily than others.
Flat-woven and braided rugs differ from all other rug types because they lack a pile. Flat-woven rugs are created by weaving yarns into a pattern or design. Braided rugs are as the name suggests – made with yarns that are braided into one long rope and then sewn together in a spiral.
Since these rugs are reversible, owners can continually flip their rug to extend its life!
While choosing a rug for your living space may seem overwhelming, being an educated buyer helps prepare you for the experience. Researching construction styles and their benefits will guide you as you search for the perfect complementing piece for your home.
It is our hope that customers looking for an area rug in the greater Louisville area–Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana – and beyond will benefit from this wealth of information developed by David Khazai, a fifth-generation rug professional in wholesale and retail rug sales.
