Before you go in for surgery, you'll receive specific instructions for how to prepare for the operation. When you're recovering from your surgery, however, there isn't a set of rules for you to follow to get back to 100 percent. Although everyone will have a different path to recovery, there are a few general guidelines for resuming your normal routine.
Just After Surgery
As you're coming to, a nurse or your surgeon will explain to you how the surgery went. During this discussion, you'll be able to ask any questions you may have about the operation, including if the operation was a success and what kind of timeline you're looking at before you go home.
You'll cope with multiple effects of the surgery. First, you'll likely feel the lingering effects of the anesthesia in the form of grogginess and sleepiness. You're also likely to experience dry mouth and have a sore throat due to the tube used during the surgery. Although these might be the first sources of discomfort that you'll notice, you'll also need to contend with pain at the incision site itself. If you feel uncomfortable, ask for more painkillers from the nurse as soon as possible because the drug can take a while to work.
Recovering in the Hospital
Depending on the operation that you've undergone, your nurses may urge you to get up and walk around. Even if you just shuffle down the hospital corridor, getting up and moving can help prevent blood clots, a serious concern for anyone who has undergone surgery. You might not be able to actually stand and walk at this point, but be sure to rotate your foot and bend your knees to keep blood from pooling in your legs. You'll also want to start eating and drinking as soon as you can – a return to normal activities is one of the best ways to get you back to full health quickly.
After Being Discharged from the Hospital
When you'll be discharged depends on the type of surgery you've had. You might be released only a few hours after your surgery is complete, or you may have to stay in the hospital for a few days. If you've had more extensive surgery, you may also need specific instructions on which movements you should and shouldn't perform after returning home. No matter when you leave, be sure to have someone available to drive you home because you won't be able to drive yourself.
Once you're at home, continue returning to normal activities as you are able and as your doctor's instructions indicate. For example, you probably shouldn't be lifting heavy boxes right away, but you might be able to walk around your home for some exercise. It's also important for you to tend to any wounds resulting from the surgery, keeping an eye on how they're healing, and letting your doctor know if any of the areas look swollen or are warm to the touch, as these could be signs of an infection.
By following your doctor's instructions and these tips, you may be able to speed up your recovery and return to your normal life as soon as possible.

A lot of individuals have dreams of visiting Las Vegas at least once in their lives. The city offers a lot of attractions such as gambling, spas, hospitality and business opportunities. However, the fun does not end in the city. Right next to sin city is the great American gorge. Nearly five million visitors take Grand Canyon airplane and tour the amazing gorge every year.
The mighty valley is the most popular, physical, American landmarks. It spans hundreds of miles through the Mojave Desert. Visitors to this amazing destination are treated to a wide variety of natural landscapes, physical features and wildlife. The most popular way to experience the beauty of this gorge is by chartering an air craft. There are numerous firms that offer plane charter services for tourists who seek to tour this region.
It is necessary for individuals to consider the starting points of their journey. There are a couple of airports in Sedona, Phoenix, Flagstaff and Las Vegas that provide chartering services. Individuals on a tight budget are advised to commence their expeditions from Las Vegas since it is much cheaper there.
The gorge is divided into two main parts; the West and South rim. These are different legs offer different attractions to the visitors. Tourists who are travelling together as a group should decide in advance which valley they want to explore. The west rim is famed for its abundance of activities and games for vacationers. On the other hand, the south rim is scenic and full of wildlife. Deep craters and rocks are visible on the southern leg of this park.
The most outstanding feature on the west rim is the renowned sky walk. This is a massive boulder that juts out more than seventy feet into the air horizontally. Its sheer size and weight has been a puzzle to scientists and geologists who cannot explain why gravity does not impact on this stone. The glass bridge, as it is popularly known stands nearly four thousand feet above the bottom of the valley and is a popular viewing point.
Tourists can also partake in activities such as white water rafting in the gushing Colorado River. The bellowing waters call out to extreme sports fans and lovers of adventure to kayak. Vacationers interested in this kind of activities are accorded necessary equipment, trainers and teams. After all is set, the teams are sent into the torrential waters.
The tours through the gorge are normally structured to last a single day. However, arrangements can be made with air craft charter firms to lend out planes for more than a day. Camping and hiking over the rocks is allowed so long as necessary are made with park authorities. Due to the high demand for such activities, facilitators and camping lodges have to be booked well in advance.
There are a lot of Grand Canyon airplane companies that hire out planes. Customers need to decide on charters depending on their specific needs and the tour packages offered by the charters. When that is done, it is time to enjoy the splendid beauty of the valley.

Article Title: Benefits of Choosing a Surgical Center Over a Hospital

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
If you're exploring your options for an upcoming outpatient surgery, be sure to consider the advantages of choosing a surgeon who operates in a surgical center rather than a hospital. Surgical centers are increasingly popular with patients who are looking for a change of pace from the traditional hospital setting, whether they're looking for more personalized care or they're simple watching their budgets. Although these centers utilize much of the same technology as competing hospitals, they also offer some benefits that many hospitals can't match.
One of the reasons the surgical centers are a favorite choice for patients is the cost. For most surgical procedures performed in a hospital setting, the largest portion of the bill is attributable to various fees charged for the facility, which include everything from the room usage charge to the cost of the disposable gloves, gowns, and instruments. This largest portion of the expenses can be reduced by simply turning to a smaller and more cost-effective surgical center.
Of course, when it comes to your health, the cost of an operation is likely a major concern, but it may not be the sole deciding factor in selecting the location of your surgery. There are several other important areas to think about, including the time it takes to complete the surgery. Surgical centers have a track record of being punctual with preparation and starting surgeries on time. Also, their recovery room times are often shorter than hospital stays, so you can spend less time in the center and more time recuperating in the comfort of your home.
Another advantage of choosing a surgical center rather than a hospital is the personal level of care that many patients enjoy. In fact, this benefit and the other perks a surgical center provides have led to a much higher level of patient satisfaction with their surgeries. Most of these advantages boil down to the fact that surgical centers are so specialized, with a focus on only surgery and recovery. There's no emergency room to attend to, and no cafeteria to stock. Plus, surgical centers generally don't treat infectious diseases – a policy that can help cut down on infections.
Of course, there are some drawbacks as well. For example, surgical centers are often limited in which surgeries they can perform, with some centers avoiding complicated surgeries in the chest cavity or operations concerning the heart and brain. Others will even refrain from performing any operation in the body cavity unless it can be performed via minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopy. If you require one of these more complex and risky surgeries, such as a heart bypass, a hospital might be your only option.
Even with all of the benefits surgical centers have to offer, it's best to receive information particular to your situation before making such an important decision. Be sure to have a discussion with your surgeon about where he or she can perform the operation or do your own research on what equipment is available at your local centers.

Article Title: How to Construct an Online Store For Your Small Business

With more businesses shifting their focus to digital purchases, it might be time for you to create an online storefront. It can seem like a daunting task to construct a store, especially if your small business doesn't have a dedicated web guru to handle it. There's no reason to worry, however, because the growth of online commerce has also spawned a number of easy-to-use creation options for you to choose from.
One of the more popular ways for small businesses to build a digital storefront is to turn to an older platform like Etsy or eBay. These sites not only provide businesses with a built-in audience, but they also allow business owners to create a store relatively quickly. Of course, with these benefits comes the drawback of limited customization. If you're just starting out, you might not be so concerned with the branding of your store, but a more established business might require a more tailored solution than these sites can provide. Fortunately, there are plenty of newer options that give businesses more control over the appearance of their stores – and you don't have to be a computer geek to utilize them.
Once you've decided which platform best suits your needs, begin constructing the store by brainstorming about the site's layout. The key is to make the items easy to find for your customers, which you can achieve by grouping your products in ways that make sense. That could mean displaying related components at the bottom of a page on industrial machinery or suggesting a bag that would complement the pair of shoes you're selling.
With a basic map of the site in hand, you can focus on establishing your store's brand, both through the visuals of the site and the voice you use to describe your items. To convey your company's identity to your customers, you need to know who your company is and who your customers are. For example, if you're building a store featuring fashions for women, you'll likely use a more playful color scheme and tone of writing, while a store selling industrial machinery might utilize technical drawings and descriptions that focus on specifications. Also consider following through with this branding effort in the real world with your product packaging. Although a non-descript box might be the most cost-effective way of packaging your product for shipping, remember that you want to make an impact on your customers in their sole tangible interaction with your business. Consider making your company stand out with unique boxes or by throwing in some free samples with the shipment.
Perhaps more important than the descriptions you provide for your items or the packaging you choose are the photographs that greet site visitors. Try to make room in the budget for professional photography of your items to give your customers a feel for the products even if they can't hold them. Depending on what you're selling, you may even need to include another item so the viewer can use it as a reference for size, whether it's a quarter placed next to a piece of jewelry or a person standing beside a kayak. Of course, you'll likely include the specific sizes in the product description, but a photo will convey the size of the item in a more concrete way.
Once your customer decides to buy a product, you'll need to provide them with a way to pay you. There are many options available to you, such as PayPal and other newer online payment methods.

The WORLDWIDE FLEET OF BEECH CRAFT TURBO PROP King Airs recently topped an incredible 60-million flight hours cementing its claim to being the most popular and best-selling turbo prop business aircraft family in the world.
More than 7000 King Airs of all Marques are operated in 127 countries around the world, including all branches of the US Military and with many other air forces around the globe.
In Africa, it ranks as one of-if the not the-the most popular twin-engined turbo prop mini-airliners currently in operation by airlines and charter companies both large and small.
In paramilitary service, King Airs serve a variety of missions ranging from traditional transport of personnel and high-value cargo, to electronic and imagery surveillance, air ambulance, airway calibration, photographic mapping, training and weather modification.
"The King Air line continues to lead its segment, representing 53 percent of the worldwide business turbo prop market, "said Shawn Vick, Beech crafts executive vice president, Sales and Marketing."Today's King Air gives operators the versatility to land anywhere and transport more passengers further on less fuel-all in a comfortable ,capable cabin. The value, durability and utility of our turbo props are unmatched by any other airplane in the world.
"Millions of hours of flight experience represent a tremendous knowledge base that is fed back into Beech craft," Vick added."We greatly value the global experience of our customers and use it to drive major and minor product improvements into the King Air line.
"This means today's King Air models offer significantly higher performance and reliability than their predecessors and, with our renewed focus on Beech craft products, we are looking forward to even more improvements to come," he said.
When the T-tail King Air 200 (initially known as the Super King Air) was first introduced to African skies in the mid 1970s, there was some skepticism as to what the reaction would be from both the business and commercial aviation communities .In those days, a director of one of the aircraft distributors told World Air news that he did not anticipate more than 15 sales overall.
He did not specify a time scale, but this must surely rank as a classic understatement because the Africa-wide fleet is now estimated to run into many hundreds.
The C-90 King Air was first FAA-certified in 1964. Although its 50th anniversary is due soon, Beech craft has kept the aircraft series current with refreshed interiors and modern glass cockpit avionics. This included the mid-1970s introduction of the then revolutionary King Air 200 model range.
At the time of its introduction, Beech craft claimed that the King Air 200 was the most extensively tested general aviation aircraft ever and produced photographs showing a number of airframes in test rigs undergoing more rigorous "flying conditions" than the type was ever likely to expect in the future.
Beech craft currently produces the King Air C-90GTx which cruises at 270 knots and the King Air 250 and 350 which cruise at over 310 knots.
Virtually all models of the King Air have used variations of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 turbo prop engines. OF all 7000 King Airs produced, only 137 aircraft had a Garret Air Research (now Honeywell) engines, namely the model B100 King Air.
King Airs range in ramp weight from just over 4536 kg (10000 lbs) to 7503 kg (16600 lbs) .Payload of the largest King Air 350ER is over 3200 kg (7000 lbs).
The longest range King Air is the Model 350ER with extended range fuel system –which allows the aircraft to fly over 25000 nm or remain airborne over 12 hours and land with 45 minutes of fuel reserve. This marquee has also been adapted as a "special mission" aircraft which last year was demonstrated to the South African Air Force as a possible long-range maritime patrol aircraft.
King Airs are sometimes referred to as the "sport utility vehicle of the skies".
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association 2012 year-end shipment of general aviation aircraft report shows that worldwide turbo prop deliveries increased by 10, 3 percent year-over-year, from 526 aircraft in 2011 to 580 in 2012.Beech craft delivered 85 of its three current production King Air models to commercial customers in 2012-38 King Air 350i, 22 King Air 250 and 25 King Air C90GTx aircraft.

Russian Helicopters Steps Up Its Fire-Fighting Efforts
Already having achieved note-worthy success with its Ka-32A11BC helicopter, which has been recognized worldwide as one of the most successful fire-fighting machines built to date, Russian Helicopters took advantage of the recent Aerial Fire-fighting Conference in Aix-en-Provence, France, to further its involvement in the Global Helicopter Fire-fighting Initiative (GHFI).
The company's objective is to foster attention on the development of helicopter models for fighting fires that it is making.
The Aerial Fire-fighting conference attracted industry specialists and developers of firefighting equipment for aerial extinguishing from practically all corners of the world.
Its coaxial rotor system allows the Ka-32A11BC to perform precise man oeuvres in both cramped cityscape and mountainous terrain and provides the helicopter with a high level of stability when hovering or flying in unstable atmospheric conditions. This design also allows the helicopter to use unequipped land sites of limited dimensions.
A special demonstration of the capabilities of the Ka-32A11BCwas held during the conference using a helicopter belonging to the Spanish operator, INAER, which specializes in emergency aid, firefighting and disaster response.
The Firefighting version of the Ka-32A11BC is capable of extinguishing fires via a Bambi bucket or water cannon.
The Ka-32A11BC complies with AP-29 airworthiness requirements and was certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2009.
The helicopter is also certified in Canada, China, India, Brazil and a number of other countries .In December 2012 the helicopter received a certificate of airworthiness from Australia.
In 2013 the Ka-32A11BC was selected as the symbol of the Global Firefighting Initiative, which is aimed at improving the effectiveness of the use of specialized firefighting helicopters.
Euro copter Validates Its Optionally Piloted Helicopter Capabilities
Euro copter ability to integrate unmanned flight capabilities into its helicopter family has been validated by an optionally piloted vehicle (OVP) demonstration programme, which used an EC145 to fly routes that included deployment of an external sling load and a representative observation mission.
Conducted at the French Air Force Base in Istres, France, this programme was revealed recently with an unmanned demonstration, which followed similar flights performed earlier in April.
With this capability fully validated, Euro copter is now positioned to pursue OPV flight capabilities for its product line of light, medium and heavy-lift helicopters –enabling those rotor craft to be flown by pilots or in an unmanned mode.
"Euro copter innovation is once again expanding the mission capabilities of helicopters, and we are ready to apply the proven optionally piloted vehicle competence in meeting customers' needs," explained Euro copter chief technical officer, Jean-Brice Dumont."This latest achievement results from our company's expertise in flight control and autopilot systems, human-machine interface, system architecture and integration."
The recent unmanned demonstration –along with the previous flights-used a four-dimensional flight plan that was uploaded to the helicopter, with its starting and completion points situated on the Istres Air Force Bases Runway 15/33.
After an automatic takeoff, the EC145 flew the circuit via multiple pre-programmed way points, during which the helicopter performed a mid-route hover to deploy a load from the external sling.
The EC145 continued on a return route segment representing a typical observation mission, followed by an automatic landing.
For delivery of the external load, the helicopter entered a planned hover enabling the ground station controller to provide flight control inputs in orienting the EC145 over the drop point. The ground controller then transmitted a command to release load once the helicopter and load were correctly positioned.
The OPV flight capability was developed in an internally –funded Euro copter programme, and was coordinated by a team at the company's Dovauworth, Germany, facility. Initial tests with a monitoring pilot aboard the EC145 were flown from Donauworth and then at Istres.
The EC145 demonstrator is a Euro copter test bed helicopter with an enhanced dual-duplex four-axis automatic flight control system (AFCS) and the latest navigation systems. In addition, the helicopter is fitted with the "plug –in" OPV avionics rack in its cabin behind the pilot seats, which contains the data link subsystems.
Visibility during the EC145s unmanned flights was provided to the ground station via on board cameras. They were complemented by an external glimbaled camera on the helicopter for infrared and daylight mission imaging.

For small businesses, learning about and adapting to new technologies can seem like an inconvenience at first, but a new way to purchase products and services can actually be a boon. With the prevalence of smartphones among today's consumers, and the ongoing race to make everything more convenient, it should come as no surprise that mobile wallet technology is quickly becoming a more commonly accepted purchasing option. In fact, experts predict that there will be a spike in purchases made via smartphone over the next decade. Many companies are considering implementing mobile wallet technology to make buying a simpler process for everyone involved. You might be thinking of making such a change, but before you invest in new technology, you should understand the costs and benefits involved with implementing mobile wallet options.
First, you should think about how you'd like to use the new technology. One of the most obvious reasons for allowing customers to use mobile wallets is that it offers the convenience of tapping their phone to pay a bill. What's in it for you, other than shorter check-out times? You can gather some of the most highly sought commodity on today's market – data on your customers. Mobile wallet technology makes it significantly easier to see what each customer purchases and with what frequency, and becoming familiar with these habits can facilitate targeted marketing campaigns. Just imagine providing your customers with coupons specifically tailored to their shopping tendencies or setting up personalized loyalty rewards. Knowledge truly is power in the business world, and understanding your customers' needs can serve to encourage more business for you.
Of course, with these benefits come some downsides. For one, you'll need to dedicate some time to consider the slew of available mobile wallet options. There are a range of choices available to you today, and even as this technology becomes increasingly popular, it seems that there isn't yet a product that is leading this purchasing revolution. With no obvious frontrunner in this digital frontier, you'll need to research which options will suit your business best. There are two general costs that you might incur when installing your new system – the initial price of hardware and software, and the ongoing cost of processing fees. While many of the available options require the installation of a special reader, others can be utilized by installing new software onto existing machines. It should be noted that there is an enormous range of software choices with an array of prices, and many of the available options can be downloaded for free. As for the processing fees, not every app charges for its use, whereas others have a flat monthly rate, and some require a set percentage of the purchase price.
No matter how you employ mobile wallet technology at your business, you'll be making an investment that will probably prove invaluable to your company. Not only will you be able to collect information, but you'll provide an element of convenience for the growing number of customers who want to check out with a simple tap.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Many people associate influenza infections with wintertime, especially in Detroit, Michigan. When the bitter cold drives people indoors, they're closer to one another for longer periods of time, making it easier for germs to be transmitted from person to person. Although there is a designated "flu season," you should remember that you can get the flu at any time of year. Plus, while many people think of the flu as merely a more intense version of a common cold, its symptoms can become rather serious, perhaps even warranting a hospital stay in severe cases.
If you want to protect yourself from getting the flu and prevent the infection of others in case you happen to catch it, there are a few simple steps you can follow.
Get the flu vaccine – Everyone over the age of six months is recommended to get the flu vaccine to prevent infection. People who are at high risk, such as pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions, people over the age of 65, and people who care for infants and other high-risk groups, should make receiving the vaccine a high priority. Note that the shot doesn't protect against all strains of the flu, only the type that researchers have predicted will be the most prominent for that year. For this reason, you should receive the vaccination every year.
Take preventative actions every day – No matter what time of year it is, you should wash your hands frequently with soap and water or with alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Also, try to limit touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as these actions can easily transmit germs and get you sick. Avoiding direct contact with people who have influenza is another recommended measure.
Keep yourself healthy – People often overlook the obvious prevention technique of simply maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Make sure to get plenty of sleep, eat healthy foods, and exercise regularly to maintain your immune system's strength.
Help others stay healthy – If you have contracted the flu, limit contact with other people to minimize the spread of the virus. You can further reduce the chance of infecting other people by staying home from work or school if you have a fever. You should also cover your nose with a tissue when you sneeze and disinfect any surfaces that might be contaminated with germs.
Take your doctor's advice – If you decide to seek medical attention for help getting over the flu, the doctor will likely provide you with a prescription for antiviral drugs to aid your recovery. You should take these drugs in the dosage and for the length of time prescribed because they can shorten the duration of the illness and lessen its severity.
If you would like to learn more about how you can protect you and your loved ones from the flu, you can turn to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's website for more information. You can also talk to your doctor for advice specific to your personal circumstances.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Most teen stars today seem to burst onto the scene in tween sitcoms or high school soap operas, but not Chloë Grace Moretz. While this teen actress has been working professionally since 2004, she made her most memorable impression on audiences in 2010's "Kick-Ass." Playing opposite Nicolas Cage, Moretz stole the screen-and attracted controversy-as the ultraviolent, foul-mouthed kid superhero Hit-Girl in the R-rated action comedy. At only sixteen, Moretz has a lot more up her sleeve, and she's due on the screen again multiple times this year.
Chloë Grace Moretz was born on February 10, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia. The only daughter in a family of five siblings, Chloë is close to her four older brothers, who still occasionally chaperone her at events. When her brother Trevor enrolled at an exclusive New York City performing arts school in 2002, the Moretzes realized their daughter had a talent for acting, and they began taking her to auditions.
Moving to Los Angeles with her family allowed Moretz to jump into the TV and film industry at only seven years old with a debut appearance on "The Guardian." The following year, she appeared in the 2005 remake of "The Amityville Horror" as the youngest child of the doomed couple played by Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. At the time, she was still too young to see the scary flick at its premiere, but Hollywood took notice of her performance and rewarded her with a Young Artist Award nomination.
After "The Amityville Horror," Moretz played a variety of secondary roles, including stints on TV's "Desperate Housewives" and "Dirty Sexy Money" and parts in films such as the body horror "The Eye" and the indie comedy"(500) Days of Summer." She also voiced the curious young girl Darby in the computer-animated reboot of the Winnie the Pooh children's series, "My Friends Tigger & Pooh," a role she continued until 2009.
"Kick-Ass" was released in spring 2010, and the offbeat superhero movie, starring then little-known teen actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, became an unexpected hit. Moretz's turn as Hit-Girl arguably drew the most attention of all to the movie, first over the appropriateness of a then-thirteen-year-old playing a violent killer and second for her use of very adult language throughout. Critics and audiences took real notice of Moretz's talent for action-she trained in martial arts and weapons handling for the role, and she performed many of her own stunts-and comedic timing. Some even hailed Hit-Girl as a new feminist icon.
After "Kick-Ass," Moretz continued to gravitate toward dark, atypical teen characters, playing Abby, a young vampire, in "Let Me In," a remake of the Swedish cult hit, "Let the Right One In." She played Isabelle in 2011's "Hugo," directed by Martin Scorsese. "Hugo" was nominated for eleven Oscars at the following year's Academy Awards, and Moretz again received acclaim and nominations for her role. Moretz also allowed herself to have some fun in lighter fare, such as "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" in 2010 and "Dark Shadows" in 2012.
While most of her characters are anything but typical teens, she has remained down-to-earth throughout her success by staying close with her nonactor friends and family. She says that part of the reason she enjoys playing dark characters is because her own personal life is happy and normal. She enjoys video games, spending time on Twitter, and listening to music. Like many other teenage girls, she's also into fashion, and she's appeared in photo shoots for a variety of magazines, from "Teen Vogue" to "W" to "Nylon." She also does charity work for the Starlight Children's Foundation.
So far, 2013 is shaping up to be Moretz's biggest year yet. She'll reprise her role as Hit-Girl in "Kick-Ass 2," due out this summer. The sequel will go more into the character of Mindy Macready, Hit-Girls nonsuperhero alter ego, as she makes her way through high school, but the film is sure to offer more of the original's outrageous action scenes. She'll also debut as the title character in Kimberly Peirce's remake of "Carrie" opposite Julianne Moore and Judy Greer. As Moretz matures, her expected future roles include the dramas "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" and "Dark Places."
With a wide variety of performances under her belt, Chloë Grace Moretz has proven that she has skill in drama, comedy, and action along with the smarts to gracefully survive her career as a teen star. It's anyone's guess what roles Moretz will pop up in next, but they're sure to be as unique as her talent.

Rating: R
Length: 100 minutes
Release Date: June 28, 2013
Director: Steven Knight
Genre: Action/Drama
Stars: 3 out of 5
When Joey (Jason Statham), a former Special Forces soldier, returns home from the war in Afghanistan, he faces life as a homeless man on the streets of London. Desperate for help, the soldier, who has taken on a fake identity while living on the streets, turns to a nun at an inner-city parish. Unfortunately, his request for help is not enough to redeem him from his sordid ways, and he becomes increasingly involved in the dark underworld of London crime. Eventually, his girlfriend is killed by another criminal, and Joey is willing to do anything in the name of revenge. The action that ensues may lead Joey to his death, or it may lead him toward redemption.
For several years, Jason Statham has been a popular star of action movies. Many of his roles have been over the top, and the plots of many of his films have been entertaining but not deep. His role as Joey in "Redemption," however, may mark a turning point in his career. Although "Redemption" is also an action film, it is much more realistic than some of his earlier films. As a result, it allows his acting to shine through, and that is one of the best things about this film. Jason Statham's fans are eager to see whether he will continue his work as an action star after this film or if decide to pursue other roles that require a different style of acting.
"Redemption" was directed by Steven Knight. It was his first stab at directing, but audiences may be familiar with his work as a screenwriter. He worked on the screenplays for both "Eastern Promises" and "Dirty Pretty Things." British audiences may also be familiar with his writing for TV, which includes work on shows such as "The Detectives" and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" among others. In "Redemption," his directorial choices may be surprising for audiences.
As expected, Knight includes several scenes that are heavy on action and special effects, but he sprinkles some emotionally symbolic scenes throughout it as well. During the very first scene in the film, the audience looks at Joey from above; the scene is shot from the perspective of war planes flying above a battle scene, and this angle highlights Joey's feelings of being lost in a big and frightening world. Later, the audience looks down from the same perspective again during Joey's time on the streets. The sense of anger that Joey feels in the first scene is mirrored by the sense of desperation he feels while living on the streets. Both of these significant scenes are shot from far above the action, but in other scenes, Knight takes a much closer look at Joey.
In one scene, Joey is shown shaving his head while in the bathroom of a home that he is robbing. During this scene, the director builds a sense of intimacy between the audience and the film's central character, and during the scenes that follow, the director tries to create empathy between Joey and the audience. Joey does not steal for himself, but rather for the common good. This fact is underlined in a scene during which Joey gives his loot to a soup kitchen.
Due to the various perspectives that are included in many of the scenes in "Redemption," the movie feels almost like an art film at times. During one especially poignant dream sequence, a homeless Joey dreams about his time at war, and during the dream, he is relentlessly attacked by a bizarre combination of dead bodies and hummingbirds. This scene is so significant that the film was originally released under the name "Hummingbird." In spite of these relatively artistic scenes, "Redemption" is still an action film at heart.
While Joey is shaving his head, he finally assumes his role as the film's action man, and as the film progresses from this point, it takes many twists and turns. Unfortunately, not all of them are believable. He even attempts to start a romance with the nun who has been helping him with his troubles. This could have been an interesting plot twist, but the actors lack chemistry and are unable to pull it off effectively. Although the combination of action scenes and the emotional scenes in this film makes it feel inconsistent at times, it is still a solidly entertaining way to spend a couple of hours.

Rating: R (pervasive language, strong crude content, and some violence)
Length: 117 minutes
Release Date: June 28, 2013
Directed by: Paul Feig
Genre: Action/Comedy/Crime
Stars: 3 out of 5
While many people may view "The Heat" as just another chick flick, in fact this film contains numerous action scenes and multiple expletives throughout. The two leads, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, team up to deliver a performance that is sure to have movie audiences laughing the whole time. The chemistry displayed between the pair would lead many to believe that Bullock and McCarthy have been friends for years, but in fact the two of them only met for the first time on the opening day of filming. What separates "The Heat" from many other films to be released this summer is that this movie is the only one with two female leads.
The script for "The Heat" came from Katie Dippold, who is also a screenwriter for the comedy series "Parks and Recreation." Dippold always had a love for buddy-cop movies while growing up, but she wanted to try something new by having female characters fill the main two roles. After loosely sketching out a script, Dippold sent the screenplay off to the film studio and was given plenty of positive feedback. The original script did not have a name, so it was given the unofficial title of "The Untitled Female Buddy Cop Comedy." Studio bosses liked the idea so much that they sounded out Paul Feig, director of "Bridesmaids." It was initially uncertain whether Feig would want to direct another female comedy so soon, but he was sold on the idea almost instantly. After Dippold and Feig met over lunch to discuss a few minor details, the pair agreed to move forward very quickly.
With the script bought by film producers in March 2012 and production set for June of the same year, there was not much time to put together a cast. Sandra Bullock was almost immediately pursued to play the role of Sarah Ashburn, a bright FBI agent who cannot seem to get along with any of her co-workers. No one was initially cast for the role of Shannon Mullins, a Boston cop who has trouble controlling her language, but Feig thought of McCarthy after reading through the final script. He thought that McCarthy's type of humor would be a great fit for Bullock's strong-woman role.
However, although Feig wanted McCarthy to play the role of Detective Mullins, scheduling conflicts meant this looked very unlikely to come to fruition. At the time McCarthy was offered the role, she was already in Atlanta shooting for "Identity Thief." To further compound the problem, McCarthy was expected to return to the set of "Mike & Molly" to begin filming episodes for the upcoming season. However, McCarthy was determined to make it happen, so she agreed to sign on. A short time after that, Feig and Bullock traveled to Atlanta to rehearse the script, and Bullock and McCarthy clicked the moment they began reading lines. Pre-production began not long after, and McCarthy put in some long hours to make everything work. At one point McCarthy was on set for "The Heat" at weekends and flying back to Los Angeles during the week to film for "Mike & Molly."
The chemistry that Bullock and McCarthy have on screen really gives the film momentum to carry it for the whole duration. While filming, Bullock was sometimes taken aback when McCarthy would divert from the script. Director Feig kept McCarthy's lines very flexible in order to allow her to improvise.
One surprising element to this film is that both lead characters are female and over the age of forty. Typically, Hollywood has tended to shy away from giving lead character roles to women who are seen by some as past their prime, but "The Heat" may go some way to dispelling that notion.
"The Heat" was initially supposed to be released at the beginning of April, but it was pushed back to late June by the film studios. While this may be viewed as a risky move, considering the plethora of top quality films that typically come out during the summer, it shows that much is expected of this film, and it would not be a surprise to see it do very well at the box office. Considering that Bullock has not acted in a box office hit in years, this film could give her career the boost it desperately needs. For McCarthy, a strong performance at the box office would give her acting career another lift, and it may open up some more high profile lead acting roles over the next twelve months.

There's plenty of advice out there for people who are searching for jobs, with much of it revolving around the all-important interview, with endless articles detailing what to wear, how to act, how to answer certain questions, and what to ask the employer. But what if you're the person in charge of conducting the interview itself? Odds are that you've been through several interviews, but maybe you've never directed one yourself, or maybe you'd simply like for your next interview to go a bit more smoothly than your past efforts. Whatever the case might be, here are a few tips to help you pick an excellent candidate for your available position.
Before the Interview
One of the most obvious steps you can take toward conducting better interviews is doing your homework on the candidates by reviewing their résumés. Have you ever thought about doing research on the position itself, though? You need to know precisely what you're looking for in your candidate – an evaluation that can go far beyond the skills and experience on a piece of paper. It can be useful to speak with employees who hold the position to find out what makes someone successful in that particular capacity.
At the Interview
Virtually everyone is nervous when walking in for an interview, but talking to someone who is on edge can make it difficult to elicit accurate and thorough responses. You want your candidates to open up and be candid about their education and experience, so put them at ease with a warm, friendly greeting followed up by some small talk. By spending a few minutes chatting about traffic congestion, weather, a local sports team, or another innocuous topic, you can give the people you're interviewing a moment to get their bearings and establish a rapport with you.
When you delve into the questioning phase of the interview, start with fact-based questions that can establish job titles and duties performed in past positions. Not only will this be valuable information for you, but it will allow the candidates a few easy questions to get them warmed up for the tougher parts of the interview. Follow these with some open-ended queries about past experiences. Depending on the position, you might ask candidates to describe a major hurdle they had to overcome in their last place of work or to tell you about an occasion that put them in a decision-making position and how they handled the situation. Questions like these can put candidates on their toes, but they'll provide you with some personal experiences you can use to extrapolate how your candidates might react in future situations. Also, be sure to allow the jobseekers time to ask their own questions about your company and the position in question.
After the Interview
Once you have interviewed all the candidates, you have to make a decision about who you'll choose to fill the position. How do you ensure that you're finding the best person for the job, not just someone who interviews well? Using your research about the position, you should be able to construct a scoring system to "grade" each of the candidates on their experience, education, and other objective factors. By keeping in mind the particular responsibilities of the position, you should be able to narrow the field considerably. If you're still having trouble reaching a decision, consider adding a writing sample or aptitude test to the interview process.

Rating: R (strong violence, pervasive language, crude and sexual content, and brief nudity)
Length: 113 minutes
Release date: Aug. 16, 2013
Directed by: Jeff Wadlow
Genre: Action/Comedy/Crime
The original "Kick-Ass" was the first creator-owned comic-book-series movie to achieve immense popularity back in 2010. The film took a different route to the typical superhero movie. The superheroes are ordinary people in homemade costumes with no super powers and varying degrees of combat training. The movie wasn't without controversy; a young girl raised by a father who shoots her while she wears a bulletproof vest in order to prepare her for the real world is a risky concept. The sequel proves to be even more controversial, bringing back much of the action, sassy dialogue, and revenge seeking started in the first film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson returns as Kick-Ass and Chloë Grace Moretz is back as Hit-Girl while Christopher Mintz-Plasse-Red Mist in the original "Kick-Ass" movie-is back as a super villain known as The Mother F**ker. Lyndsy Fonseca, the girl friend turned girlfriend of Kick-Ass from the first film, also reprises her role as Katie. The sequel brings in smartly cast new faces, including Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes, Donald Faison as Doctor Gravity, and John Leguizamo as Javier.
What made the first "Kick-Ass" so much fun was seeing the inept Dave Lizewski transform into Kick-Ass, a vigilante with no fancy gadgets or combat training. His only power was permanent nerve damage that happened when he got his own ass kicked, which left him with a significantly decreased ability to feel pain. In "Kick-Ass 2," a legion of ordinary people in costumes inspired by Kick-Ass are now out fighting crime, giving viewers an entire gang of superheroes with good intentions and extremely limited skills to back up their masked identities. The gang includes Night Bitch (Lindy Booth)-a woman wanting to avenge her sister's murder-and Insect Man (Robert Emms)-a former police officer ready to take the law into his own hands. Perhaps the most amusing addition to the team is Marty Eisenberg, Dave's nerdy friend from the first film, who has followed in Dave's footsteps and become Battle Guy. Clark Duke reprises his role, bringing dry wit and false bravado that is fun to watch. Leading the band of masked misfits is Colonel Stars and Stripes, a reformed mob thug.
The movie will begin with Dave and Mindy living normal lives in which their greatest obstacle is surviving high school. When they discover their antics inspired the Colonel to form the Justice Forever band of superheroes, they decide to join the team. Mindy dons her Hit-Girl costume but gets caught sneaking out and is unable to fight alongside Kick-Ass.
Unfortunately, Mindy's forced retirement won't keep her safe from Red Mist; he is seeking revenge for his father's murder. He ditches his Red Mist persona and becomes a bigger villain, The Mother F**ker. The superhero team must take down team Mother F**ker, including the top guy's bodyguard Javier, his bodyguard's sidekick Enzo, and Mother Russia; she is probably the most terrifying of the bunch. Only in "Kick-Ass 2" do bodyguards get sidekicks. There are also villains named The Tumor and Black Death. As The Mother F**ker's minions begin to take out her superhero friends, Hit-Girl finds a way to return and rescues the superheroes.
The movie is based on the comic books, Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall and Hit-Girl. Like the first film, which was based on the Kick-Ass comic book, the movie plot remains true to its comic origin but eliminates some of the gratuitous violence put in merely for shock value. The original storyline of the comic books remains but by stripping down some of the extras in favor of plots, both movies are better than the comics. Fans of the first movie will still be satisfied with the violence in "Kick-Ass 2" though; nearly every character gets killed or severely beaten. This continues the tradition of the first film where audiences witnessed Hit-Girl's father, creepily named Big Daddy, murdered in front of her and watched Kick-Ass being tortured, both events occurring live online. More death and mayhem ensue in the sequel, but the basic concept of ordinary people stepping up as superheroes is actually better portrayed in this second film. Still, there should be a don't-try-this-at-home warning flashing across the screen during the entire film-just in case anyone gets any dumb ideas.
"Kiss-Ass" ends with the young Mindy getting a fresh start, being able to dress like a little girl, and going to high school. Thankfully, it will be a welcome relief for adult fans to see her return to her ass-kicking superhero ways in "Kick-Ass 2."

Many women perform extensive research prior to undergoing breast augmentation in an attempt to thoroughly understand all aspects of the procedure. However, they may come across new terminology that can be confusing or difficult to understand. The following list includes some of those more complicated terms – and a few common ones – that individuals might read or hear as they learn more about breast augmentation.
Anatomical Terms
The key to understanding breast augmentation is to first gain knowledge of the basic anatomy of the breasts and chest. Doing so can help patients grasp some of the surgical approaches that breast surgeons may mention during a consultation. Some anatomical terms include:
• Mammary glands – female breasts
• Nipple – the pigmented erectile tissue that projects forward from the front of a breast
• Areola – the dark area of skin that surrounds a nipple
• Cooper's ligament – fibrous tissue that connects the breast to the overlying skin
• Pectoralis major – a large, fan-shaped muscle in the upper chest that provides motion to the arm via the shoulder joint
• Pectoralis minor – a thin, triangle-shaped muscle in the upper chest that lies beneath the pectoralis major and facilitates the rotation of the scapula, or shoulder blade
The following terms are used to define certain anatomical characteristics that a woman seeking breast augmentation may exhibit:
• Ptosis – drooping or sagging breasts that can occur as a result of lax Cooper's ligaments; ptosis is a common concern among women who have undergone pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, and/or aging
• Asymmetry – breasts that are dissimilar in shape or size
• Micromastia – abnormally small breasts
Surgical Terms
Breast augmentation surgery involves incisions through which implants are placed in the breast pockets. The specific incision used in a breast augmentation procedure will depend on the type of implant used, a patient's preferences regarding visible scars, and where the implants will be placed in relation to the chest muscles. Each type of incision is made in a different location of the body, and is named for that location. Similarly, the terms used to describe implant placement are named based on the location of the implants within the chest wall. A thorough understanding of these surgical terms is important for a woman undergoing breast augmentation so that she can actively participate with her surgeon in the decision-making relating to the procedure.
The main types of incisions include:
• Inframammary fold incision – an incision made in the breast crease, where the base of the breast connects to the chest wall; the resulting scar is typically hidden by the breast
• Periareolar incision – an incision made around the outer edge of an areola; this type of incision allows the resulting scar to blend in with the darker skin of the areola
• Transaxillary incision – an incision made in the underarm region; the resulting scar is usually small and nearly impossible to see
• Transumbilical (TUBA) incision – an incision made in the umbilical (belly button) region; an endoscope is inserted into the incision and is used to create a tunnel through the fat layer just beneath the skin from the belly button to the breast pocket; the resulting scar is often impossible to detect
The following terms define the types of implant placement:
• Subglandular/submammary placement – an implant is placed just behind the mammary gland tissue but above the pectoralis major and minor muscles
• Subpectoral placement – an implant is placed partially beneath the pectoralis major and above the pectoralis minor muscles
• Submuscular placement – an implant is placed completely beneath the pectoralis major muscle and connective tissues, while still remaining above the pectoralis minor muscle
Ask a Surgeon
If you're considering breast augmentation and come across terms that you do not understand, schedule a consultation with an experienced cosmetic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. A surgeon who has met the educational and training requirements necessary for board certification can give you very specific information about breast augmentation and the related terminology you'll need to understand as a patient. Additionally, an experienced surgeon can provide you with a general idea of whether breast augmentation or a combination of procedures can help you reach your aesthetic goals.

If you decide to undergo breast implant surgery during the summer months, you could begin enjoying the warmer temperatures and outdoor living as soon as two to three weeks following your procedure. Before you finalize a summertime procedure date, however, there are some factors related to your recovery that you should consider. These factors include how to protect your incisions from the sun and potential infection, and which types of swimwear will provide the best support.
Protecting Your Incisions from the Sun & Potential Infection
While all breast augmentation patients should carefully monitor the healing of their incisions, it is especially important for women who undergo summertime procedures to protect their incisions from the sun and potential infection.
Surgical incisions form scars that are sensitive to sunlight. Allowing the sun's damaging rays to reach your incisions before they are completely healed can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation. This condition triggers an overproduction of melanin, which causes patches of skin to darken. More specifically, your incisions may become significantly darker than the surrounding skin. To avoid hyperpigmentation, your surgeon may recommend keeping your incisions out of direct sunlight for at least six months to a year following your procedure. He or she may also suggest putting sunscreen on your breasts and placing surgical tape over your incisions for added protection while you're outside.
Protecting yourself from infection is another important consideration following summertime breast augmentation. While a quick dip in the pool, ocean, or a hot tub after sunbathing may seem appealing, submerging your incisions in water within two weeks following surgery is not recommended. Water may carry bacteria that can enter the body through an unhealed incision and cause infection.
Purchasing Supportive Swimwear
Purchasing swimwear that shows off your new silhouette will likely be at the forefront of your mind following your procedure. It's important to remember, however, that you'll be required to wear a compression bra 24 hours a day during the first two to six weeks after your procedure. This can help support the breasts, reduce swelling, and limit strain on the incision closures, which encourages healing.
When you are no longer required to wear a compression bra and you're ready to don a bathing suit, it's still important to choose a garment that will properly support your breasts. When searching for supportive swimwear, consider your body shape and augmented cup size. Women with larger breasts may benefit from wearing banded halter tops or tops that feature wide straps. These bathing suit tops offer the most support and lift for augmented breasts. Tankini tops are another good supportive swimwear option, as they are designed to evenly distribute the weight of the breasts on the shoulders.
During the early stages of your recovery, it's best to avoid triangle bikini tops, as well as bandeau-style tops, as these options probably will not provide you with enough support and may impact how well your incisions heal. Additionally, your surgeon will likely recommend that you avoid purchasing and wearing swimsuits or bras constructed with underwire, which can rub and irritate incision sites and hinder proper healing.
Learn More at Your Consultation
To gain a better understanding of the factors that could influence your recovery after a summertime breast augmentation, consult with an experienced plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He or she can give you a professional opinion regarding the procedure or combination of procedures that will best help you meet your aesthetic goals, as well as provide you with detailed instructions to ensure proper healing and the best overall results.

Industrial forklifts are essential for businesses that use pallet racking as its primary storage system. Forklifts, also commonly referred to as lift trucks, provide the ability to quickly load and unload goods, making them crucial to maintaining an efficient operation. There are many different types of industrial forklifts available, which could make it tough for some business owners to really have a good idea of which type would be best for their specific operation. The following is a look at some of the most common types of industrial lift trucks that are prevalent in facilities throughout the United States utilizing a pallet rack system.
Counterbalance Forklifts
Counterbalance forklifts are staples in indoor facilities that have a pallet rack system, and they are the most common types of industrial lift trucks available on the market today. Counterbalance forklifts also are the type most people often picture in their minds when they hear the term forklift. These forklifts provide straightforward operation, with forks that stick out from the front of the vehicle for securing and transporting loads on pallets. There are several different models of counterbalance forklifts, including liquid propane-powered, electric-powered, and diesel-powered options. There are also four-wheel and three-wheel designs, the latter of which provide better maneuverability and are ideal for facilities with narrow aisles between rows of pallet racking. While counterbalance forklifts are generally used in indoor facilities, they also can be used in outdoor industrial operations as well.
Reach Trucks
Reach trucks offer exceptional lift height and have the ability to reach into a pallet racking system to safely load and retrieve pallets. There are several models for reach trucks, including stand-up, double-deep, straddle. A stand-up reach truck works as the truck's forks slide under the pallet to transport goods to a desired location. This model is ideal for use with pallet rack systems that have one palletized load stored per bay. Double-deep reach trucks operate in the same manner as stand-up models, but have longer forks. These models are ideal for use with pallet rack systems that allow for more than one pallet to be stored per bay; the forks are generally long enough to slide the pallet to the back of the storage unit. Meanwhile, straddle reach trucks offer a more flexibility when it comes to loading and retrieving pallets because they not only slide under pallets but they can also grip the sides of the pallet as well. Having a straddle reach truck can be especially helpful if your pallet racking system is accessible from more than one direction and incorporates numerous pallets per storage bay, because with this type of reach truck you would be able to grab a palletized load that may be third or fourth in line from the front of the storage bay.
Hand Pallet Trucks
Hand pallet trucks are used in warehouses to transport palletized goods from one location to another. The hand pallet trucks forks slide under the pallet and a hydraulic jack is used to raise the palletized load off the floor. While hand pallet trucks are available in a wide variety of designs and some are capably of transporting loads in excess of 5,000 pounds, the reach of these types of trucks can be extremely limited.

Businesses that choose to purchase a pallet rack system undoubtedly hope it will serve as a dependable storage system for years to come, and for good reason. Pallet racking is constructed of steel beams and upright steel frames, so its parts are among the most durable options for industrial shelving available today. However, no product used in industrial operations can withstand years of use without some sort of maintenance being performed, and there are some things you can do to help ensure that your pallet racking system will remain structurally sound and fully operational well into the future.
Install Rack Guards and Bumpers
Pallet rack guards and rack bumpers are two of the best accessories to include on your system. Rack bumpers are installed along the base of the system and provide protection against potential damage that can be caused when material handling equipment, such as forklifts, come into contact with the frame of the pallet racking structure. Rack guards are barriers that are installed near the base of the system and prevent forklifts and other equipment from ever reaching the pallet racking. Both accessories provide outstanding benefits and can help keep your pallet racking system from suffering damage that can jeopardize the structural integrity of the entire system. Most business owners choose to install at least one of these products, while many ultimately add both for the extra security.
Replace Damaged Uprights and Beams
Unfortunately, accidents happen in nearly every line of work, and the material handling industry certainly is no exception. If your main industrial storage system is pallet racking and forklifts or other material handling equipment are utilized in your day-to-day operations, the possibility is always there for the steel beams and uprights to incur incidental damage. The main thing is to be aware of this likelihood and to take steps to be on the lookout for hazards to the system that can be created – and to fix those hazards immediately when they are realized. By conducting routine inspections of your pallet rack system, you can look for dents and cracks that could compromise the stability of your overall system. It's important that if you recognize any damage to your pallet racking system that you quickly address the issue, because a small problem could lead to much further complications – and costs – down the road. The good thing about racking systems is that individual uprights and cross beams can be replaced, so incurring damage to a portion of your pallet racking won't necessarily force you to purchase an entire new storage system.
Repair Chips and Cracks in Paint
While minor chips and cracks in the paint of your pallet rack system may seem like a small problem that doesn't need to be addressed, you must think about the potential problems these issues could lead to in the future, particularly rust and corrosion. Rust and corrosion can seriously compromise the integrity of a pallet racking system, putting the goods you are storing and your employees who work around the system in a dangerous position. It is best to perform monthly checks of your storage system to look for and take care of these minor issues so they don't spiral into something larger that will lead to incurring more significant costs down the road.

If you are utilizing a pallet racking system at your facility, you already incorporate arguably the most efficient, cost-effective industrial storage solution that is available. But, that doesn't mean improvements can't be made to increase your storage capabilities. Like any product, a pallet racking system can be enhanced in many ways. Here are a few simple things to consider with your pallet rack system if you are looking to maximize the storage potential at your business.
Expand Up and Out
One of the greatest things about pallet rack is that expansion is relatively simple. You can add new upright frames and cross beams to create new storage bays at any time, in two ways – up and out. Expanding your pallet racking system upwards is likely the first option to consider, because that is where it likely will be easiest for most businesses. Chances are you probably didn't construct your pallet racking system all the way to the roof at your facility, so you'll probably find ample expansion possibilities by adding new storage bays at the top of your system by installing new, longer vertical uprights. Doing this could present some logistical problems – for example, expanding upward could lead to you needing different material handling equipment to reach those new storage bays – so make sure you do some research before diving into this potential plan. The other alternative is to expand outwards, adding additional storage bays at the ends of the rows in your pallet rack system. If you have the flexibility to add an additional column at the end of a row, it will quickly boost your overall storage capacity.
Look at Narrowing the Aisles
Material handling equipment like forklifts need ample room to operate safely, so when initially designing a layout for a pallet rack system it is vital to leave sufficient space between aisles. This will help you to avoid the potential for collisions between your loading and unloading equipment and the industrial shelving system. However, if you were overly generous in the amount of space you decided to leave when first designing your system, you can contemplate narrowing the aisles between the rows of your pallet racking system. Should you be able to save enough room between aisles, you could conceivably construct an entire new row of pallet racking, significantly upgrading your system's storage capacity.
Consider a System Reconfiguration
With the goal of every business being to grow, sometimes it is inevitable for change to happen. Change, though, could present great opportunities to increase storage. For instance, if you were storing bulky items when you first constructed your pallet rack system but now are storing smaller items because demand in your products has changed, there is a chance you could reconfigure your pallet rack system and create new storage bays. With pallet racking, every inch matters. Taking a hard look at what your inventory consists of and whether or not your pallet racking system is constructed to specifically accommodate those types of items could help put you on a path toward finding more storage space in your existing pallet racking system – and, as a result, running a more efficient business.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Pallet rack systems are extremely efficient and cost-effective storage solutions, and they have become the ideal choice for businesses that operate out of a warehouse or another similar facility. Simply deciding to use a pallet rack system, however, doesn't guarantee that you will automatically obtain the perfect storage system for your particular operation. There are some steps that need to be taken in order to ensure your chosen pallet racking is as efficient as it should be, specifically when it comes to configuring your system and how it is laid out on your ground floor. By adhering to the following guidelines you can make sure that your pallet rack system is properly set up and can help lead to meeting the storage and production standards you have set forth for your company.
Take Accurate Measurements
In order to get a good idea of how to configure your pallet rack system, you first must focus on what types of goods you are storing and what types of pallets you will be using. You will need to measure the length, depth, and width of the standard pallet you choose, as well as get the same measurements – with an extra measurement for the height – for the largest load you plan to store. These measurements will help you precisely determine how much space you need to create a storage bay in your pallet rack system. It is important to remember to always leave an additional 10 inches of space between the start of a new bay to ensure that you can safely load and retrieve your palletized goods. However, by taking accurate measurements you can maximize your storage capabilities and not waste valuable storage space in your facility.
Determine Your Maximum Weight
Calculating the weight of the largest load you plan to store is equally as important as taking accurate measurements. Pallet rack systems vary in the amount of weight they can support – those weight limits are outlined by the respective manufacturer – so it's important to know how much your goods weigh so you can ensure the storage system you choose will be able to safely secure your goods without the threat of collapse. While the likelihood of every pallet you store weighing the same is not realistic, the reason you use the maximum weight is to ensure that any load can be stored in any particular bay without issue.
Leave Proper Spacing
Having proper spacing between the rows in your pallet rack system is imperative to ensure that you leave enough room to operate the material handling equipment you intend to use to load and retrieve your goods. For instance, pallet jacks likely won't require as much space as forklifts do to safely navigate in an area, while some types of forklifts require more space than others. Knowing what type of material handling equipment you intend to use will help you configure a more efficient system.
Improve the System's Safety Aspects
Any time you can improve safety at your facility, you should strongly consider it. When configuring pallet racking, there are multiple products you can add to improve the safety aspects of the overall system. Some specific products you should be aware of are wire mesh decking, post protectors, safety netting, levels, and rack guard. Wire decking and safety netting can help keep employees safe as they help prevent goods from falling off a pallet, while rack guards and post protectors keep the overall system safe from damage that can occur when forklifts and other equipment come into contact with the system.

Pallet racking is a storage system that today is used extensively in distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and many other businesses that operate out of a warehouse, and for good reason. Pallet rack systems are some of the most efficient and cost-effective industrial storage solutions available, and they can provide a wealth of benefits for your operation when incorporated at your facility. If you've ever considered utilizing a pallet rack system as your business's main storage solution but were unsure whether or not it was the correct move to make, this article sheds some light of some of the many benefits pallet rack systems offer, and it could help you gain a better understanding of whether pallet racking would be the ideal solution for your storage needs.
Save on Space
One of the most beneficial aspects of a pallet rack system is that it can save a ton of space in your facility while still offering plenty of storage capabilities. How? Pallet racking utilizes vertical space instead of valuable floor space. You can extend pallet racks all the way to the roof in your facility – or as high as the material handling equipment you use to retrieve palletized loads can reach. A pallet rack system gives you the chance to drastically improve your storage capabilities over other similar industrial shelving systems that would utilize the same amount of space on your facility's ground floor.
Durability and Dependability
Pallet rack systems from reputable manufacturers such as Wireway Husky, Interlake Mecalux, Unarco, Speedrack, and Lyon are constructed of high-quality steel. They are also specifically designed to withstand the grind of a busy warehouse setting where pallets are continuously loaded and unloaded with advanced material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. So, when you purchase a pallet rack system from a reputable manufacturer that has a reputation for delivering well-crafted equipment, you can feel confident that the storage system will function properly for years to come.
Tremendous Accessibility
There are multiple types of pallet rack systems, including push back, drive in, drive through, single-deep, double-deep, and gravity flow. Determining which one will perfectly suit the needs of your business will take some time to figure out, but the good news is that each of these systems offers outstanding accessibility to unit loads. With some systems, you can have unimpeded access to every palletized load. Others only offer access to those in the front and/or rear positions. Oftentimes a system with greater storage density will offer less access, but you still will be able to reach all of the pallets on the system with minimal issues.
Safety Matters
So long as you stick to purchasing a pallet rack system from a reputable manufacturer, you can ensure you are buying a storage system that will give you the ability to safely store your goods. All name-brand pallet rack systems have been extensively tested to ensure they are structurally sound and capable of supporting the maximum amount of weight as specified by the individual manufacturer. Of course, it is imperative to strictly adhere to the manufacturer's guidelines in order to maximize the safety aspects and minimize the threat of injuries to employees and damage to your goods.

The world has experienced epochs that radically transformed the global culture in each instance. Examples are the Bronze Age, The Industrial Revolution, the Nuclear Age and now the Cyber Revolution. In each epoch, the technological advances had profound impacts to traditional cultures, with corresponding benefits and drawbacks. The Internet and digital age is the latest technological evolution to forever change the world in fundamental ways: driving societal change, improving information-sharing and communication methods, advancing education modalities, new weapons systems, and aiding economic growth. There are also negative effects with the expansion of domestic and international crime and complex new security threats. These negative effects can impact both government and corporate entities with extreme detrimental consequences; in order to counter these threats, all entities that utilize the Internet must employ an effective corporate security program and offer a cyber-security crisis management course to educate their employees and make them aware of the most up-to-date Internet-based scams and threats.
Intelligence and private proprietary activities are shrouded in secrecy to protect national security and corporate secrets. The Internet as an accessible source of information has proven to be a powerful asset for the intelligence community and corporate America. The intelligence community has created a new collection/analysis discipline called open source intelligence (OSINT). Corporate America enjoys the leverage of improved communication, new products and knowledge to enhance profits. However, a new form of espionage and warfare has emerged: Cyber Warfare. This new threat is comprehensive as every level of a nation is vulnerable from government to private industry to personal information. Criminals and enemy governments are exploiting the opportunities to steal secrets from weapons systems data to personal identities.4 The easy availability of these Internet data has two downsides. First, there may be information on the Web that could potentially harm US interests in ongoing clandestine and covert operations. Second, the very real danger of penetration of US digital networks and communications is a continuing threat. Corporate America, at risk along with government, needs to look at corporate security programs and crisis management courses for protection.
There are critical economic and military resources such as the US power grids, military command and control communications, intellectual property, trade and business secrets, and military and commercial satellites, to cite some vulnerable targets. The Chinese government has been accused of a variety of "hacking incidents" that have penetrated sensitive US government agencies and a broad range of the private sector entities. An attack on the US power grid could have devastating consequences; interfering with the integrity of military communications and control could be construed as an act of war. Cyber security has become a national priority.
At the national level, the country has a responsibility to leverage the resources available through the Internet. In the intelligence context this means to maximize the open source information resources resident in the Worldwide Web. The OSINT techniques should be refined and evolve with the Internet media. The appropriate use of the Internet to support clandestine and covert operations is exigent for US security. At the same time a comprehensive set of defensive and offensive policies must be put in place to protect Corporate America from enemies using the Internet to penetrate and attack US cyber links and capabilities. One immediate US response is to train a new generation of intelligence analysts who have the contemporary technical skills to effectively operate in the cyber world. Online schools provide education in how to implement a corporate security program for governments and private corporations alike, staying on the cutting edge of internet technology. There are also Internet crisis management course offerings to train companies and governments on how to respond when their database infrastructures have endured a cyber attack.

We live in a world that values continuing education. Thomas Friedman's book "The World is Flat" identified and grouped individuals that would be successful in the era of globalization into four groups: "Special, Specialized, Anchored, and Adaptable" Individuals that were "Special" were those likely identified as celebrities, political, or religious leaders. Those within the "Specialized" group have within their ranks individuals such as scientists, researchers, and engineers whose expertise is in high demand. Those categorized in the "Anchored" category were described as plumbers, carpenters, mechanics, and other career fields that a community or society would require to maintain a certain standard of living. These "Anchored" individuals perform services that are "hands-on" and could not be outsourced to other locations or individuals. The final category, "Adaptable," is the category for individuals in career fields that require continuous education as these individuals must adopt new skills to stay competitive in a globalized environment. Professional career fields such as project management, law, business, and strategic security fall into this category.
Individuals within the Strategic Security community working in occupations such as an intelligence agency analyst, an executive protection professional, or a counter terrorism specialist must pursue continuing education opportunities to stay competitive in this "adaptable" career field. One way to remain competitive is by enrolling in a strategic security course or two, such as a counter-terrorism training course, to stay current in their field or to learn to implement new skills.
Which strategic security course should one in such an "adaptable" career field enroll? And where would one find an institution to enroll in a strategic security course that would teach him or her new skills to maintain competitiveness in their career field? With the focus of American defense strategy on countering terrorism, enrollment in a counter-terrorism training course may be the best choice for strategic security professionals. As it turns out, colleges and universities offer courses in strategic security, where one can take a counter-terrorism training course, or a course in executive protection or intelligence analysis to hone professional skills.
Due to the meteoric rise in online education over the past decade, there are colleges and universities that offer such courses online. Students can complete the course curriculum via scheduled correspondence, thereby providing a tremendous benefit for the individual with family commitments or for the person who is forward deployed as a member of one of the armed services. Flexibility is one of the key benefits of online education today. Accrediting bodies such as the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) nationally accredit many of these colleges and universities. They are recognized by government entities and employers alike as adding value and as schools where strategic security professionals can continue their education in order to stay relevant in an "adaptable" career field and to learn new analytic skills sets and counter-terrorism theories. Another added benefit of these schools is that one can often use tuition assistance offered by employers or the military or finance their education directly with the school via a payment plan to fund their continuous education and continue to enhance their professional skills and knowledge.

I am a plumber in Northampton, UK and I often get asked by people to explain the differences between different types of boilers or heating systems. You may have moved into a new home and do not know which type of boiler and central heating system you have or you may be considering installing or replacing your boiler or heating system.
This article will explain the main domestic heating systems that I work with as a plumber, Northampton.
One of the most common boilers and the one that most people opt to have installed nowadays is the combination boiler. A combination (combi) boiler heats hot water for heating (radiators) and also for domestic hot water direct to the draw off points (taps). Unlike regular or system boilers it does not store hot water in a seperate large domestic hot water cylinder, instead it heats cold water directly from the cold mains supply. The benefit of such boilers is that you always have instant hot water when you need it.
How to tell if you have a combi boiler in your home:
There will be no feed and expansion or cold water storage cisterns in the loft of the property. You wouldn't have a domestic hot water cylinder. When the hot water taps are turned on the boiler will fire up instantly to directly heat the water. You will not need to take up space in your property storing a cold water storage cistern.
Regular/conventional boiler.
This type of system of system is what is known as a non sealed system. It incorporates a open vent safety pipe which is open to the atmosphere. This ends over the feed and expansion cistern (normally in the loft). This system provides domestic heating through radiators and domestic hot water indirectly through a seperate hot water cylinder.
How to tell if you have a regular/conventional boiler:
You will have a feed and expansion plus a cold water storage cistern in the loft. You would normally have a airing cupboard containing a hot water cylinder, circulation pump, 2 or 3 port zone valve and wiring center. You will also notice copper pipes running from the cylinder up into the loft space. This is a low pressure sytem.
Sealed system boiler:
A sealed system boiler will not be open to the atmosphere like a regular boiler, instead it will be a sealed pressurised system like a combi boiler but unlike a combi it will not provide hot water directly. It will provide hot water by a seperate pressurised unvented cylinder.
How to tell if you have a sealed system boiler:
There will be no water cisterns or related pipework in loft space. You will have a seperate unvented hot water cylinder with a expansion vessel and pressure release valve close by.
In other articles I will talk about the benefits of the different types of heating systems that I commonly work with as a plumber, Northampton. People want to know which systems are the most energy efficient.

Article Title: How Much Does it Cost For a Full Central Heating System?

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
As a plumber, Northampton, I often get asked by family and friends and also through work to give a cost for a new central heating system.
If you are thinking of installing a new heating system and you intend to get a plumber out to give you quotes, it can be helpful to have in your mind a rough idea of what is a reasonable price to spend on a central heating system.
Below is a rough guide to the cost of two types of full central heating systems. The price will vary depending on where in the country you are and on what specific appliance and materials you choose. For example, you can choose which boiler you would like to have installed and these vary in price. A full survey of the property would be required to give an accurate quote. I will give the prices based on an averaged sized 3 bedroom house.
Combination boiler (standard 3 bedroom house)
To fit this system with 8 radiators would cost between £2800 and £3500. This would include Boiler, 8 standard Radiators, Thermostatic rad valves, standard rad valves, Magnetic filter, room programmer and in addition would include all the pipework.
The benifits of a combi boiler is there is no need for a seperate hot water cylinder and you would also have instant hot water on demand. In addition, less space is required for installation and it is cheaper to install, because less materials required.
The negatives are that if your boiler were to break down, you would have no stored hot water. There can also be pressure loss, if more then one hot water tap is used at once and there is also no heating whilst hot water is in use.
System boiler (standard 3 bedroom house)
To fit a system boiler with 8 radiators would cost between £3400 and £4500. This would include boiler, unvented cylinder, 8 standard radiators, Thermostatic radiator valves, standard radiator valves, Expansion vessel + control kit, Magnetic filter, PRV and all pipework.
The benifits of this system is that you will still have stored hot water if the boiler breaks down or the water supply is interrupted. It can supply water to multiple hot water draw of points (Taps) without pressure loss.
The negatives of this system is its more expensive to install due to additional parts and labour and it requires a lot more space for the installation.
So you can see that it is more expensive to fit a system boiler.
When a plumber comes out to give you a quote, the price will also be affected by things like if the plumber will need to lift floorboards or tiling to install your system.
The prices I have given are what you can expect to pay in an average town like where I work as a plumber, in Northampton.
Plumbers in affluent cities such as London may well charge more for their services.
In future articles, I will look at the energy efficiency differences between different central heating systems.
