SAA Gets Its First Two New Airbus A320S
South African Airways has taken delivery of the first two new A320s out of a total of 20 A320 Family aircraft ordered from Airbus in 2010. The development is set to deliver cost efficiencies and allow SAA to expand its sub-Sahara regional route network and boost revenue in the rapidly growing market.
The airlines A320s, powered by IAE-V2500 engines, feature a two class cabin layout, seating 24 passengers in business class and 114 in economy. The A320s will replace its present fleet of 737-800s and will augment the A319s it already has in service and mark the latest phase SAAs fleet modernization plan.
These are not the first A320s to be operated by SAA. The airline had a fleet of seven of these aircraft several years prior to the turn of the century, but were sold and eventually replaced by a fleet of 21 Boeing 737-800s when the then CEO, Colman Andrews, launched his fleet modernization plan.The last of these aircraft will be replaced by the new A320s in the immediate future.
The A320s Family is claimed by Airbus to be the world's best-selling and most modern single aisle aircraft Family. To date, over 9600 aircraft have been ordered and more than 5600 delivered to over 380 customers and operators worldwide.
With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320sFamily has the lowest operating costs of any single-aisle aircraft.
BA To Fly The A380 On SA Route
British Airways will become the fourth international airline to employ the giant Airbus A380 on services to Johannesburg when it inaugurates London-Johannesburg return flights in February next year.
The other carriers flying the A380 to Johannesburg are currently Air France, Lufthansa and Emirates.
British Airways (BA) aims to start flying the A380 to Johannesburg from February 12,although the date for the inaugural flight may be earlier. Initially it will operate three times a week, increasing to six weekly services by March 2014.These flights will be part of the airlines normal schedule to South Africa's commercial capital.
Since British Airways took delivery of its first super jumbo in July, Johannesburg is only the third A380 route to be confirmed after Los Angeles and Hong Kong .Another two aircraft, from a total order of 12, are due to be delivered before the end of the year.
The airline has a long history of deploying new aircraft on its South African routes. In May 1952 its predecessor, BOAC, operated the world's first commercial passenger jet service from London to Johannesburg .The BOAC Comet halved the previous travel time.
In the early 1970s South Africa was also one of the routes on which the airline began operating the now-iconic Boeing 747, then the world's largest passenger aircraft.
New Milestone for Airbus A330
Airbus Recently celebrated the delivery of the 1000th A330.The aircraft ,an A330-300 powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines ,was handed over to Cathay Pacific Airways as a special ceremony in Toulouse.
Cathay Pacific, together with its sister airline Dragon air, is the world's largest operator of the A330, with a total of 56 now in service.
The 1000th delivery comes as the A330 continues to enjoy increasing popularity with airlines across the globe. Continuously enhanced to maintain its economic advantage, the aircraft is claimed by Airbus to remain the most cost-efficient twin engine wide-body in service today for both regional and long haul routes, with the latest versions capable of flying non-stop on sectors of up to 7250 nautical miles.
Since its first delivery of the A330 in 1995, Cathay Pacific's Airbus fleet now comprises 38 A330-300s and 11 A340s, while Dragon air flies 21 single aisle A320 Family aircraft and 18 A330-300s .The Cathay Pacific Group has outstanding orders for 10 more A330-300s .The airline will also take delivery of 48 all-new A350XWBs in the future, including 46 ordered from Airbus and two leased aircraft.
The wide market appeal of the A330 Family is demonstrated daily by over 100 operators, including network carriers, low-cost ,charter and flag carriers, which fly A330s on all missions from 30 minutes to over 14 hours .About 1,2-billion passengers have been carried aboard the A330 fleet traveling to and from the 300 airports it serves today.

If you find your days getting a little lopsided, it might be time to find out if you can still stand on one foot. That may sound silly, but in fact if our bodies are off center, it may be telling us something. If we spend too many days tied to a desk, or in a car, our physical sense of balance starts to suffer. And when our body loses its balance, so can our world.
Try this simple balance test.
Stand straight, with your hands out at either side. Raise one leg, and see if you feel any unsteadiness. Then close your eyes. Did you start to sway a bit more?
Age, loss of muscle strength, and a lot of sitting in front of computers and TVs, all may contribute to a gradual loss of standing balance. Over time loss of balance can make you feel less steady on your feet and less confident in your walk. But a few simple steps can help you regain balance you may have lost.
1.Exercise does wonders. Strength training, yoga, tai chi, ballet, and many more physical activities all help you improve your balance. Some have specific balance building poses. And as you gain strength and flexibility, you also gain confidence, just by how you feel.
2.Balance your plate. Who knew our mothers were so smart? They told us to eat our fruits and vegetables, and they were right. Decades ago no meal was complete without a meat and two veg. Then came fast food, and orange crunchy things in a bag.
It doesn't matter which exact food are on your plate; by now you know the drill. But a balance of colors, textures, proteins and healthy carbohydrates in your diet does make a difference in your life. Anecdotal evidence also suggests that adequate amounts of B vitamins are essential for the health of the inner ear, which regulates our sense of balance and equilibrium.
3. Balance your food intake. In his book The Fast Diet, Dr. Michael Mosley explains that humankind was not built to eat constantly. In fact, much of human history was pretty much a feast or famine sort of existence. Even in our modern world, his research suggests, we can feel healthier and less sluggish if we balance big eating days with days when we and eat much less.
You can go ahead and enjoy celebrations, and game days, but if you give your body a rest from so much food the day after, you may feel better in the long run.
A confident stance helps you balance your day. When you feel stronger, and physically more balanced, both inside and outside your body, it can change how you approach everything you do. Physical strength recharges your emotional strength. Better physical balance gives you poise, and a sense of calm assurance that those around you can see and respond to. Do you ever feel like everything is your life is negative? We all have times in our lives when everything seems to be going wrong, and during those times, it can be very easy to lose perspective. The temptation to curl up in a corner or pull the sheets over our heads is something that everyone has experienced at some time or another—whether we'd like to admit it or not. Instead of succumbing to the temptation, though, there are some coping strategies you can use to get through this hectic or emotional time in your life without losing your positive outlook.
1. Focus on the small things.
Yes, we've been told not to sweat the small stuff, and that's excellent advice. However, it's not wise to ignore every minute detail. Sometimes when all the big things in your life seem to be falling apart (think finances, relationships, etc.), it can be very grounding to focus in on the things that are going right, however small they may seem. Are you thankful for the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning or a fall day that's not too hot and not too cold? Though they may appear insignificant compared to the looming problems in your life, don't make the mistake of ignoring them. You'd be surprised at how a moment of gratitude (over anything at all!) can transform your entire day.
2. Reach out to others.
Many of us pride ourselves on holding things together even when things get tough. Determination and perseverance are great attributes, but when you find yourself struggling to keep a smile on your face, it may be time to reach out to those people in your life who you can count on to help. Not only will this ease the burden caused by excessive stress, but it will also serve as a reminder that you have a circle of support. We weren't meant to do this life alone, so don't try to. Reach out to those around you and allow yourself to feel gratitude for them. If you feel a tug of guilt, remind yourself that they too are benefiting from lending a helping hand.
3. Find moments of quiet.
When problems arise in our lives, we often find ourselves scurrying around (either mentally or physically) trying to fix things. Though this is a natural human response, it can sometimes do more harm than good. What we really need in these tough times is the opportunity to experience quiet—to be alone with our true selves, whether it be through prayer or meditation or both. Practicing quiet on a regular basis can put you back in touch with your authentic self—you know, the one who is steadfast and untouched by these surface-level problems that have you feeling like you're losing it!
When our lives get messy, it's easy to get caught up in the drama. Don't! Remember, everything in this life is temporary, so this too shall pass! Making an intentional effort to stay positive through tough times is a great spiritual practice and will pay off by granting you more strength and peace in the long run. As hard as it may be in the moment, make an effort to be thankful for these experiences that will leave you better off in the long run.
