What is the sense of keeping two or more copies of the same file when it only adds to your costs? Most computer experts would argue that a back up is done not only because its part of the standard procedure, but because it ensures the safety and integrity of your files. What if someone hacked your computer and modified its contents? How can you retrieve your original data without a backupa? Also, there is a possibility of your computer being infected with a virus. Without a back up, you might not be able to continue your work, or worse, you'll start again from scratch. What to Back Up It goes without saying that you should back up all the important files in the computer. Here are some examples. * Documents, music, pictures and videos. Your documents in school or work, your favorite mp3s, your childhood memories stored in pictures, or your latest downloaded series: whatever personal file it is, keep a copy of it. * Application settings and program installers. In case of a virus or a system crash, you can easily reinstall your frequently-used programs through these files. * Bookmarks. If you have a list of websites that you visit daily, better back it up. What Not to Back Up * Not every file in your system needs to be backed up, such as the ones listed below. * Windows operating system. If your operation system gets corrupted, you can reinstall it anyway. So why bother backing them up? * System files. Likewise, you can get the system-related contents of your local drive upon reinstallation. * Program files. You can also reinstall your programs so you don't need to duplicate its folders in another place. * Internet cache. Although these data may help you load web pages faster, you don't need this. Your browser can just download these small files again once you access the webpage. Where to Back Up It is a matter of preference on where you want to back up your documents. There are three different areas which you can choose as your backup locations. Local backup. This refers to another physical drive apart from your PC. Of course, the essence of backing up your files is that you will have a reserve copy of your data in case something bad happens in it. Therefore, creating a backup in the same location defeats the purpose of this process. As such, the most popular avenue for backups is through external drives or in a drive in another computer. Online backup. During the dial-up days, backing up online is considered to be time consuming and expensive. Fortunately, with the level of internet speeds today, this has become a practical option for a lot of reasons. First, your file isn't stored in a physical hardware, which can get corrupt. Also, an online backup removes the risk of losing your data from device theft. Thus, you don't have to worry too much on finding your stolen computer as you have a backup online. System imaging. You can also back up your system as well. This process is called system imaging. Unlike in a file backup where the backup location should be different from the actual file, in system imaging your computer creates a copy of your system in your drive. As such, you can completely restore your system in case it crashes. However, the only limitation is that you need to have a considerable amount of disk space in order to perform this process. When to Back Up You may not know when accidents will happen so it is better if you can back up your files daily. This is pretty much easy if you are using online backup, especially if you are configured to be on auto-sync with an online database. On the other hand, if you are using a local storage such as an external drive to store data, you may have a hard time sorting all your folders for new files. To make this process easier, you can just back up only your most important files on a regular basis. All the other files get another treatment; they can be backed up every month or so, depending on their size and importance. As a saying goes, "Prevention is better than cure." Don't wait for your precious files to be damaged or deleted before you create a back up. And now that you're well-equipped with the basics of backing up, you should start this process immediately. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

It is very easy to do especially for a computer novice. You just right click your taskbar and select the Start in the Task Manager Button to open the tool. In the Processes tab, you highlight the application then press End Process to kill it. While this has been the main purpose of this tool, its other nifty functions are put to waste because users aren't informed. As such, here are some of the unpopular uses of the Windows Task Manager (WTM) to get you on the know. 1. It lets you see which applications consume your CPU and RAM. Upon opening the WTM, go to the Processes tab. It will list all the running programs in your computer. If you click on the Memory (Private Working Set) heading, then it will arrange the programs based on its CPU and RAM usage. You can also see how much memory is used by each application, which is expressed in kilobytes. 2. It shows your actual usage of CPU and RAM. In the Performance tab, you will see graphs that depict your CPU and RAM usage. In the left side, the bar graph will show how much of the memory is used in real-time. Beside it are the history graphs for CPU and Physical memory usage. It will show you the usage spikes over a specific time frame. 3. It lists all the programs that frequently read and write in your hard drive. The Resource Monitor keeps a record of the disk activity of each program. The disk activity is measured by bytes per second. In the right side, there is also a graphical representation of the total disk activity. Through this, you can see if your hard disk is being utilized at a maximum rate. What is the implication of these data? If you are going to use a disk-intensive program, then you might want to close the other applications listed in the Disk tab. 4. It gauges how long you have been using a program. Are you interested to know how long have you been on your computer? If yes, follow these instructions. At the top of the WTM, go to View then click Select Columns. Check the CPU time, and click OK. In the Processes tab, you will see the time elapsed for each running application. 5. It enables you to stop background programs from running. There are times when even though you have closed an application, it continues to hog your CPU memory. What happens is that this program is running on the background. To completely stop the application, go to the Processes tab. Next, select the background program and click End Process. 6. It lets you send a message to another user. The Users tab will list all the users who are simultaneously logged in your computer, either through a remote desktop connection or through local sessions. To send a message to another user, simply click his username in the Users tab then click Send message. A dialog box will pop up; you can enter the message title and your message in the fields provided. Lastly, click OK to send your message. 7. It can arrange your program windows. If you right click the taskbar, you can choose a windows arrangement option such as Show Windows stacked, Cascade windows, and Show windows side by side. The task manager lets you do this too. In the Applications tab, hold CTRL as you click each program that you want to be arranged. Afterwards, you right click on the selection for the options. You can either choose Cascade, Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically. 8. It monitors your network activity. Does a webpage takes too long to load? You may consult the task manager for some ideas. The Networking tab will show you the internet usage of each adapter on a percentage basis. If you see high spikes in the graphs, some applications may be consuming too much of your internet connection, which in turn causes your web pages to load slowly. 9. It tells you which applications use your internet connection. Assuming that in our scenario above, you want to prioritize internet browsing over the other programs. Thus, you need to stop some irrelevant programs from running; but how will you know which programs to stop? To do this, go to the Performance tab then click Resource Monitor. In the Network tab, it will show the applications that are using your network connection. Indeed, the Windows Task Manager is an indispensable application. These functions make it a great productivity tool for every computer user, so better share this knowledge among your friends and colleagues. What if the explorer is not responding? You cannot possibly stop the explorer when you cannot access the WTM through it. As such, here are some ways on how you can run this tool in Windows. 1. Through the taskbar This is the most popular way on how you can open the WTM. To do this, you simply right click on the taskbar. After that, select Start Task Manager. This will open the WTM dialog box. Note, however, that you should do this preferably on the right side of the taskbar, like in the system tray or in an empty taskbar field. It might not work if you go to the left side; the Start button is there as well as the pinned program icons. 2. Through the Windows Explorer If the taskbar lets you access the WTM by only two clicks, in this method it will take you longer than that. First, you go to My Computer by clicking the Start button and then selecting My Computer. Afterwards, open your local disk (Drive C) then go to the Windows folder. Find the System32 subfolder. You should be able to see the taskmgr.exe in it. Unless you have no other option to get to the WTM, then only then should you use this method. Given that it makes you exert more effort to get to the program, this process isn't efficient at all if you're going to access this tool on a daily basis. 3. Through the Run application Using the Run command will enable you to access different locations not only in your computer, but also in shared networks. Also, it can open a specific program given that you put its location in the field. To open Run, click the Start button then proceed to All Programs. In the Accessories folder, click Run. This will open the Run command dialog box. In the Open field, type "taskmgr.exe" then click OK. You can also access the Run command via the Search programs and files. To do that, click the Start button. In the Search programs and files field, type Run. The application will populate in the Programs section. Click on the Run icon to open it. 4. Through creating a Shortcut Perhaps an easy way to access the WTM is to create a direct link to the tool in your desktop. To create a shortcut, you have to right-click an empty spot in your desktop. Go to New, and then click Shortcut. This will open the Create Shortcut dialog box. Type its location in the field, which is the following path: C:WindowsSystem32taskmgr.exe. After that, click Next to continue. Enter Task Manager as the name of the shortcut, then press Finish. Afterwards, the shortcut will be placed on your desktop. 5. Through CTRL + ALT + DEL If a specific application is not responding, most computer users will press the CTRL + ALT + DEL buttons. This will take them directly to the WTM screen. However, this is only applicable for the Windows XP Professional x64 and in lower versions. For Windows Vista, this keystroke will take you to the Windows log-on screen. Among the choices in the log-on screen are Lock this computer, Switch user, and Logoff. There is also a Select Start Task Manager option in that menu. 6. Through CTRL + SHIFT + ESC Another three-button keystroke can take you to the WTM. This is the CTRL + SHIFT + ESC. However, compared to the CTRL + ALT + DEL, this keystroke is much harder to do because of the location of its buttons in the keyboard. Nevertheless, you can also use the CTRL + SHIFT + ESC while on Remote Desktop Connection, as it will open the WTM on the desktop you are accessing and not the desktop on your computer. 7. Through CTRL + SHIFT + END If you're on Remote Desktop Connection and you clicked CTRL + ALT + DEL, it will not bring up the task manager of the remote desktop. Therefore, you can try other keystrokes such as the one previously mentioned. Aside from that, you can also try CTRL + SHIFT + END. However, if you use this on a normal desktop and not a remote one, it won't do anything. And that's it – the seven possible ways on how you can access the Windows task manager. Through learning these tips, you can now determine which among these methods is the most efficient for you. Because of this, the performance of your Windows computer will slow down since your system will have to work hard in finding the data that needs to be accessed. Removing these unwanted files from your computer will improve your system functions. Junk files are basically the temporary and duplicate files, unused shortcuts, and browsed cache data that are generated by an internet browser, a program, or by a Windows operating system after your computer starts up. When you run a program, the system uses system and non-system files to initiate a function to make sure that the program will load faster. This is the reason why it is necessary to clean them up in order to maintain a healthy and optimized PC. You can do a manual or automatic clean up. There are a lot of methods that can be used to do this. We'll start first with manual methods. MANUAL: Clear up all your browser's cache files. When you are browsing the internet, you are also accumulating unnecessary files since your Windows computer automatically saves data from the sites you have visited. Here are the steps in cleaning up your internet browser. 1. Open your internet browser. You don't need to have internet connection in performing the clearing up steps. 2. Go to the toolbar of your browser (take note that each internet browser has different tool options so be sure that you are familiar with them.) and find the History option. 3. Clear the History as this will clear the memory of all the pages of your visited sites. 4. Clear also the cookies and the temporary files in your browsing history. Clear up your Windows desktop. It is important that you also clean your computer's desktop to save some space from your hard drive. You should get rid of the unused shortcuts and organize them. Here's how to do it. For Windows XP 1. Right-click on an empty space in your Windows desktop and select Arrange Icons By. 2. Select Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard. 3. Click the Next button. 4. A prompt box will appear with the options of which icons should be removed. Tick the boxes of the icons you want to remove then click the Next button. 5. Click Finish to confirm all the changes you have done. 6. Windows will automatically make a folder that keeps the unused shortcuts. You can always restore the icons once you need them. For Windows 7 1. Right-click on an empty space in your desktop and Select the View option. 2. Click on Show Desktop Icons. 3. In doing this, the option will be unchecked and your desktop icons will be no longer seen in your desktop. You can restore them by checking the Show Desktop Icons, again. Run Disk Cleanup Disk Cleanup is a built-in utility for your Windows operating system. Disk Cleanup is important since it will automatically remove all the temporary files that are stored in your computer. Here are the steps in running the Disk Cleanup. For Windows XP 1. Go to your Windows desktop and Click the Start button. Select Programs then Accessories then System Tools. 2. Choose the Disk Cleanup option under the System Tools. 3. You will be given the option on which drive you wanted to clean up. Select the drive you wish the Disk Cleanup to run and let the program analyze it. 4. A dialog box will pop up showing you the files that can be deleted. Review them then click OK to delete them. 5. By doing this, you are able to free up some space from your computer memory. However, if you still wish to free more space, you can click the More Options tab then click the Clean up button under System Restore. For Windows 7 1. In your Windows desktop, click the Start button and type Disk Cleanup in the search bar. 2. Launch the program and you will be given the option on which drive you want to clean up. 3. Click OK and let the tool analyze the disk. 4. You must review the list of files that can be deleted then click OK if satisfied. 5. Just like with Windows XP, you can clean up the System Restore points. To do this, Click the Clean up System Files option then click the cleanup under System Restore and Shadow Copies. AUTOMATIC: Junk files are scattered in your computer system. Performing the manual techniques can be time consuming. However, if you want to do the clean up the easy and quick way, you can do these following steps. 1. Install a cleanup software for your system by downloading it from a trusted source. 2. Run the application and let it scan your system and automatically delete those unnecessary files from your computer. Cleaning up junk files from your system will enable your computer to perform faster and thus be more reliable. Even after clearing all the viruses and unwanted files from your system, your PC's performance may be slower than expected. Slow system startups are usually caused by low memory space, errors in registry errors, and when there are installed programs and applications that automatically start when your PC is started. There are various methods that should be done in order to improve your system startup. However, proper precautions should be observed in performing these methods to avoid further problems. Here are some tips on how to boost your system start up. 1. Change your Windows Settings. Slow start ups can also be attributed to some changes in system settings. Windows has this utility called System Configuration that can be used to do the necessary changes. * In your desktop, click the Start button then select Run. * A dialog box will appear. Type "MSCONFIG" in the type box then press Enter. * In the System Configuration Utility, choose the Startup tab to let you see the programs that usually begin during a start up. * You will see that there are a lot of programs in the list. To remove unnecessary programs or application, just un-tick the box of the chosen program. * Once you are done with the changes, click OK then reboot your system. You can also change settings for your Windows services. Here are the steps to follow. * After rebooting, reopen again the System Configuration utility. * Under the Services tab, tick the box of the option Hide All Microsoft Services to let you view the unnecessary programs that can be also removed. * Click OK if you are done. Remember that you must remove programs that are totally unnecessary since removing important programs may result to more serious boot problems. 2. Perform changes with your system "BIOS". One way in speeding up your system's boot time is to run some changes in your BIOS or Basic Input/output System. Take note that you should be careful in modifying some settings with your BIOS to avoid further errors. * Turn on your computer. Make sure that you must start with your unit completely off. * Launch the System BIOS screen based on what your computer manufacturer's guide says. * Once you are in the BIOS setup, locate the BOOT menu. * For modern versions, you'll find the Quick Boot option. Enable this to skip other memory tests. * Under the BOOT menu, look for the Boot Device Priority option. Select the first option, which is the Hard Drive then press Enter to finish the changes made. * Selecting the Hard Drive will speed up your system start up however, this will also enable your computer to boot from a "CD-ROM". If you don't want this, you can always deselect the option by launching the BIOS setup again. 3. Disable hardware that is no longer used. Your PC loads up a lot of drivers during startup. Disabling unused drivers can shorten your system's boot time. * From your Windows desktop, click the Start button. * In the search bar, type Device manager. * Locate drivers that you are not using. Some of the common options are Bluetooth devices, virtual Wi-Fi adapters, and modems. * Right-click on the device you wish to remove then select Disable. Please be mindful that you should be uninstalling those drivers that you are not totally using. 4. Uninstall unnecessary fonts. During a system start up, your Windows computer loads up a lot of fonts, causing a boot slow down. However, you can remove fonts that you are using. Here's how to uninstall them. For Windows XP * Open My Computer then open "Drive C". * Create a new folder and name it as Fonts Backup. * Go back to the Local Disk C then open the Windows folder. * Locate the Fonts folder. Once opened, choose the fonts you wish to remove. Highlight them then click Edit and choose Copy. * Navigate back to the folder you just made ten paste the copied fonts. * Go back to the Fonts folder then delete the highlighted fonts. For Windows 7 * From your Windows Desktop, click the Start menu. * In the search bar, type Fonts Folder. * Once loaded, it will show up all the fonts that are installed in your computer. Check off fonts that you want to remove. * Once done, click the Hide button. In this way, you are not totally deleting the fonts rather you are only preventing them to load during a system start up. 5. Upgrade your computer memory. This must be the traditional method in boosting up your system start up. They are cheap and easy to install. Certain system errors could also be fixed by cleaning up the registry. But what does the registry has to do with your computer speed? What is the registry anyway? The registry is one huge database of your operating system. Most of the settings of operating system, programs you installed, and even the games you play are saved on it. Being placed in one location, it makes it easier and faster for your computer and all of it programs to access it. However, despite being a single entity on your computer, the registry is composed of multiple registry files. However, even though they are separated in multiple files, that is not enough reason for the system to have difficulties on accessing them since to make it faster for your programs to have access to the registry, your operating system will load it on its memory as soon as it boots. And that makes it always available for your programs to use and access. How Does It Get Cluttered? The registry becomes cluttered whenever a poorly written program is installed in your system. Most of the time, those programs will place a lot of entries on your registry and most of them are technically useless. Also, the creators of this programs often forget to include remove the registry entries they have created in their uninstallers. Because of that, the registry becomes full of useless entries that only take up space. How Does It Get Fragmented? The registry is saved on your computer's hard disk. And since it is always accessed, updated, and edited, the registry files can get fragmented. Does a cluttered Registry Slow the System? Unfortunately, not really. The registry is already full with thousands of entries. Adding a few hundreds of entries will not really affect the system. Also, since the registry is loaded in the computer's memory, having thousands of entries will not really matter. There will be no need for your hard disk to parse an entry from its storage whenever a program needs to access a value from it. Will a Fragmented Registry Slow Down the System? Yes, but not as much as you think. A fragmented registry will take more time to be loaded on the memory when the computer starts. However, that slowdown will be barely noticeable. Also, since the registry is not big loading it to the memory is not that a big deal. A computer that has been running for years and has a lot programs might have a registry that might be around 75 to 125 MB big. Opening your word processor to your computer might be even slower than the computer loading the registry to the memory. What Are the Pros of Cleaning the Registry? It is relevantly too small. Even if you use the best registry-cleaning program in the market, the impact to your system's speed of registry cleaning and defragging will be small. Just think about it, why do operating systems do not come with this program if it will be essential in maintaining your computer? After registry cleaning became popular in 'maintaining' computers, operating system developers never made an attempt to include a registry cleaning utility in their operating system packages? What Are the Cons of Cleaning the Registry? Unfortunately, it outweighs the pros. Recklessly or fully trusting registry cleaning applications to remove entries in your registry could be dangerous. If you or the program makes a mistake in removing an essential entry on it, a program may stop working entirely – not to mention that it might crash your system. So Why Get Those Registry Cleaning Programs? The only useful function of registry cleaning programs is its registry backup feature. In case you want to edit something in the registry, registry backups will spare you a lot of trouble if you make a mistake. However, you can also use Microsoft Windows operating systems' System Restore feature. That utility is a backup creation program that can restore your system in an earlier working state. Not only it will restore important files that you might have lost, it will also restore the previous registry that you have. In a nutshell, registry cleaning is a thing you should not worry about or do. If you want to keep your registry clean, it will be better for you to avoid installing bad programs instead. You do not need to spend a few bucks for registry cleaning programs that do not really do anything for you. And whenever you feel that your Windows computer is starting to act slow, or when you notice that there are error messages related to certain "dll" or system files, one of the first things that you might have to do is to defrag your computer. Even if you have no clear understanding on how it works or you only have a slight idea on the processes behind defragmentation, you will still do it. After all, it has worked wonders before and the last tech guy told you to do it if your computer is acting up. However, you should know more about defragmentation. With newer computers, defragmentation can actually shorten your hard disk's (the computer part that stores all of your files) lifespan. Also, you might only waste your time doing it since nowadays, fragmentation is the last thing you should worry about. What is fragmentation anyway? Fragmentation is the tendency of your computer or hard disk to store a file into smaller pieces or fragments and place them into different locations. And the existence of fragmented files can make way for new files to be fragmented, too. This fragmentation slows down the performance of your hard disk when retrieving and writing files. Why? Imagine that your files are being stored in a CD. The head of an optical device, the "CDROM" as people commonly call it, position itself on top (or below) of the CD in order to read the files burned into it. If the file you want to retrieve or access is fragmented, the head or reader of the CDROM will make additional movements to access the fragments of the files thus adding to the time the head needs to consume in order to read the whole file. Unlike a fragmented file, a continuous file (a file written or 'burned' continuously on the disk or without fragments), it is easier to read since the head does not need to search and move in far locations in order to access the file fully. Not only that fragmentation slows down the read time, but it will also shorten head's lifespan due to wear and tear. After all, it is a mechanical device that can break down. By the way, regular hard disk drives works like a CDROM. It has a head and a CD (or platter) inside it, where it stores the data you have in your computer. That is why when you try to touch your hard disk drive when your computer is running, you will feel that something is moving or spinning inside. Now that you have an idea what fragmentation is, it is time to understand your operating system, file system, and its defragmentation processes. In case you are running on a Windows Vista or later on your PC, fragmentation will be the least of your concern. Commonly, Windows Vista or later always force your computer to run on NTFS (NT File System), especially if your hard drive's capacity is large. "NTFS" by default has good fragmentation control thanks to its Master File Table (MFT) structure. In case you have Windows XP or earlier, you might have a FAT32 (File Allocation Table32) on your system, especially if your drive's capacity is small. Unlike NTFS, "FAT32" does not have the same defense against defragmentation. On the other hand, if you have a Mac, fragmentation will be the least of your concern. Macintosh computers take advantage of Apple's proprietary file system "HFS+" (Hierarchical File System+). HFS+ has multiple anti fragmentation countermeasures. And that is one of the main reason Mac computers do not come with a defragmentation program. Alternatively, if you are running Linux, your computer must be running on an extended "filesystem". Nowadays, most Linux installation take advantage of the ext4 (Fourth Extended Filesystem). Unlike its predecessors, it has the Extents feature which greatly reduces the tendency of your drive to become fragmented. And thanks to the partition system of Linux distributions, hard disk performance will be the least of your worries. However, despite the countermeasures of the Mac and Linux' filesystems against fragmentation, they are still susceptible. And that will happen when your hard disk's free space becomes smaller. During that kind of situation, hard disk will be forced to slice up your files into chunks in order to save them. On a different note, if your main storage device is an SSD (Solid State Device), you should never defragment! Unlike regular HDDs (Hard Disk Drives), the performance of SSDs is not affected by fragmentation since they do not have any moving parts. However, it comes with a price. The storage blocks of SSDs have limited number of read and writes. Due to that, defragmenting them will only reduce its lifespan greatly. It houses all the programs and files in your computer so it provides an easy way to access all these data. However, what you don't know is that there are some tricks that you can apply to this tool for a more productive working space. Listed below are some of these tips. 1. Add the Run command permanently. The Run command is a great tool to access locations and open programs. However, the Start Menu doesn't have the Run command permanently pinned into its section, unlike the Control Panel and Devices and Printers. To do this, right click the Start button and go to Properties. This will open the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. Open Customize. In the list of items, check the Run command. Lastly, click OK. 2. Easily see the contents of the items. Don't you find it counterproductive when you still have to open each Start Menu item just to see its contents? Fortunately, your computer has an option where it automatically expands each of these items so that you can see all of the files and folders in it. For instance, if you want to expand the Documents, simply go to the Properties of the Start button then choose Customize. Under the Documents section, select Display as a menu then click OK. You will notice that the Documents item has an arrow, which you can hover to so that you can see its contents. 3. Put Videos as an item. If you press the Start button, you see the Documents, the Pictures, and the Music on the right-hand panel. However, the movie buffs out there might think why the videos item is not pinned. You can easily do that through these steps. As indicated in the previous items, open Customize in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. Find the Videos section then choose Display as a link. To finish, click OK. 4. Let the Recycle Bin be shown in the menu. The Recycle Bin is usually situated in your desktop area. However, if you want to enjoy your wallpaper in all its glory, you don't want any icons in your desktop. However, if you right click the said application, you can't see a Delete button. What can you do now? There's an actual remedy for this situation. First, right click your Desktop to open Personalization. In the Change desktop icons, simply uncheck the Recycle Bin so that it will disappear on your desktop. Next, open My Computer then paste this code in the address bar: "C:UsersXAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu" Replace X with the username of the current user account in your computer. Right click an empty space in the folder then choose Shortcut. For the location, type the code below. "explorer.exe shell:RecycleBinFolder" Choose Next. Afterwards, type Recycle Bin as the name of the shortcut. Lastly, press Finish. To change its icon from a folder to a trash icon, simply right click the shortcut to open its Properties. Afterwards, go to Change Icon in the Shortcut tab. In the Look for icons in this file field, paste the code below. "%SystemRoot%system32imageres.dll" A gallery of icons will populate. Select the standard bin icon then choose OK. Your shortcut will now appear to be like the Recycle Bin application sans the shortcut arrow. If you use the Search function, you'll now see the Recycle Bin in the list of programs. 5. Improve the speed of the Search tool. The Search tool uses a database called the Index to find all the items in your computer. So if you want to increase the speed of the Search tool, you should minimize the items listed in the Index. To do this, go to the Control Panel. Choose Indexing Options among the entries. It will list all the locations of the items that the Indexing service has saved in its database. Select Modify then uncheck items to remove some of the locations. Don't forget to click OK. 6. Trim down your searches to programs only. Whenever you perform a search, it looks for all of your documents, files and programs by default. This is why it takes the search bar too long to populate your needed items. Therefore, it would be fitting if the Search field will only find for the applications. This promotes speeds up the search in terms of finding programs, as compared to the default setting. To do this, go to Customize. Find the Search other files and libraries option in the list, then select Don't search. Finally, press OK. With these foolproof tips and tricks, you can now enjoy the new look and functions of your Start Menu. With the mix of loved XP and the reviled Vista's good points, Windows 7 is, without a doubt, the best Microsoft has to offer. Windows 8 might seem good, but only a few appreciate it and some are not willing to shed cash to replace a good system they trust. Anyway, even though Windows 7 is great, it is still not perfect. Problems with the system arise from time to time and these issues cause a great deal of stress to users who are not well versed with how operating systems work and the set of quirks that come with them. Because of that, here are some of the top issues you might encounter with Windows 7, and their corresponding fixes. Slow Performance in Old Computers If you are one of those who upgraded your computers to Windows 7 because you heard and saw that it is great but became disappointed because your computer might not be able to handle it, do not worry. Unlike the rabid Vista that consumes a lot of computer resources, Windows 7 is friendly to old computers just like Windows XP. However, if its default setting is hurting your computer, it is time for you to take action. And the most common culprit that you need to apprehend to make your computer run fast is Windows 7's default visual settings. To change it and improve your computer's performance, open your start menu. On the search text box, type 'adjust the appearance' without the single quotes on it. The start menu will search for that, and return an entry that has a name of Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows. Click on it. A small window will appear, and it will have the title of Performance options. If you want to optimize your computer for best performance, just tick the Adjust for best performance radio box and click OK. The appearance of your desktop will change, but it will run smoothly just like your old Windows XP. On the other hand, if you fell in love with some of the graphic style and effects that Windows 7 introduced, you can just turn off the ones you do not like on the Custom section and click OK. Incompatible Old Programs Even though the recent updates in Windows 7 has fixed most compatibility issues with old programs, there might be some programs that you had in your old system that might have been displaying bugs or are not working at all. If that is the case, you can just to change a setting for Windows 7 to adjust and work out the compatibility issue. To do that, go to your program's main application. Right click on it. On the context menu that will pop up, click on the Properties option ¬– it should be placed on the bottom most part of the menu, Once you do that, a window for the program's properties will pop up. Find the Compatibility tab, and click on it. In the Compatibility section, you can set the program to be run with compatibility assistance from the system. Check the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box and choose the operating system where your program has worked fine before. Once you have done that, click on the OK button. Your program should work as it was intended. The Explorer's Display a Bit Different Unlike Windows XP's intuitive explorer, Windows 7's explorer might bewilder you a bit or tick you off. Now, when you look around the folders in the right pane of the explorer window, the left pane directory does not work with it. Instead, the directory will not follow your movements. And it makes it a bit difficult to know where you are. And the address bar on top is not helping since it only displays the name or title of the folder that you are in. Unlike before, it does not display the address or your current folder location. And to know the address, you will need to click on the address bar. To solve those two problems, you will need to tweak them in the Folder Options window. To access that, click on Tools on the File Menu (the on top with the File, Edit, etc. buttons). After that, click on Folder Options. On the Folder Options window, you should be on the General Tab. In order for the directory pane to follow your navigation, check the Automatically expand to current folder check box. On the other hand, for you to always see where your current location or address, go to the View tab. On the Advance settings section, check the Display the full path in the title bar and click on OK. Even though the address is not on the address bar, you can still view it on the title bar of the explorer window. Just like with the XP system, you may also experience missing "DLL" files and corrupted system files. This could be brought by faulty installation of new programs, viruses, or problems with the registry. In any case, these can be fixed by running utility software such as registry cleaners, antivirus and automatic driver updaters. Furthermore, errors lead to sluggish computer performance. Solving computer errors is simple with the use of different downloadable programs. Some of the common programs capable of repairing system errors include the following: Registry Cleaners Registry cleaners are programs that wipe out inconsistent registry entries. Installing a program leaves records in the registry system for necessary for smooth software operation. However, uninstalling related programs leave these logs, making them broken paths that cause system inconsistencies. Registry inconsistencies affect programs' function and overall system performance. Regular computer users can't identify broken registry logs due to lack of expertise. Registry cleaners detect and remove problematic registry entries then restore computer's performance. PC Optimizers PC optimizers are special programs that detect causes of computer's poor performance and recommend solutions. The optimizer will scan computer and see if the system is indeed performing slowly. Once detected, it reports the main causes of errors and performance issues. Provided solutions often include cleaning the registry, removing unused programs, compact fragmented files using disk defragmenter, and many more. Usually, a PC optimizer has all the necessary cleaning tools like integrated registry cleaners, junk file cleaners, and other repair tools. Users can either conduct recommended procedures manually or let the program execute procedures on its own. Leaving the task to the optimizer is beneficial for novice users or those without high technical knowledge in identifying errors. Some optimizers, however, cater to advanced computer users wish to save specific files that they still need. Junk File Cleaners Junk file cleaners are designed to remove files that are meant for deletion. Junk files fill up disk space without actual purpose for the operating system or other programs. These files range from problematic registry logs, cookies, caches, leftover system files, and others. This software makes cleaning easier because it detects unneeded these files on its own and ideal for users who unaware of these junks' existence. Launching this software keeps users from deleting essential files for currently installed programs. Using this software follows similar procedures as in utilizing optimizers and registry cleaners. Execute the program and it will scan the system. Depending on the software's development, a junk file cleaner may scan specific folders or the full drive. After setting it up, users can start scanning and cleaning junk files. DLL Repair Tools DLL repair tools are applications that aid in fixing DLL-triggered inconsistencies. A DLL or dynamic link library file serves as one of the vital elements that a hardware's functionality to its software and the operating system. Different hardware come with their respective.dll files upon installation. They may be corrupted and trigger DLL errors that prevent other programs from loading properly. Fixing these problems is easy with a good DLL repair tool. A DLL repair tool fixes these issues through two steps. It scans the main drivers and programs behind the error. After scanning, the program may recommend to delete the corrupted file or repair by replacing the affected file. These tools may include a.dll file library that installs DLL replacements. This will solve the problem and makes sure the programs and hardware will work as expected. Program and Driver Updates Outdated program elements and drivers often cause computer errors. Using these outdated elements with an updated system will show errors or prevent software and hardware from loading properly. Installing new software and driver versions often solves these issues. Updated installation file versions include bug fixes and other additional features that improve users' experience in using these computer add-ons. Once installed, the new features will take over the outdated versions. Hence, computers will stop showing related errors after installing the new version. Windows Updates Just like third-party program and hardware updates, Windows developers release continuous updates for the operating system and recognized drivers. They can be generic or specific driver updates. The good thing about Windows Update is it's readily accessible for users. The operating system has a designated Windows Update platform that allows users to download and install updates. The platform is customizable according to users' update installation preferences. Options include the system detecting, downloading and installing updates automatically. The platform can also check for updates and let users decide on which ones to download and install. On the other hand, users can opt not to install any update. Most of the time, Windows-related errors are solved by installing these new updates. Several programs are deemed helpful in fixing various computer errors. Being aware of these solutions can save computer users money from bringing their systems to repair centers for something they can solve on their own. It may be a photo, a word document, or an important personal file. Above all these things, there is one file that you should be careful about, and that is the Windows Registry. Windows registry is like the DNA of your computer system as it stores all the data about the different programs and applications installed in your computer, hardware devices, and the configurations you have made in your system. It serves as the system's database where all the computer functions are referring to. Every change that you do with your computer is recorded in it. If there is no registry, your Windows will not work. It is the one that tells the system what should be done in order for every function to be executed properly. It can be accessed through the registry editor where you can view and modify registry entries. Though you can edit entries, it is not advisable to change any of them manually because it may cause the operating system to malfunction that may lead to serious issues that may be harder to fix or troubleshoot. The registry offers a lot of benefits to your operating system. One of them is all your system data is stored in one place, making it for the user to back up and restore files much easier. Another benefit is that, it cannot be edited in a simple text editor. It uses the binary format that can only be read and changed by programs that are designed to be used for it. This advantage is important since it would be a hard time for anyone to do any modifications since one wrong move may lead to a computer disaster. While you install and uninstall software programs from your system, the Windows registry is accumulating data and files that are incorrect and unnecessary. In addition to that, internet browsing can install malicious attachments to your system. Because of these factors, several problems may arise including the following: * The computer's performance is degrading. You will start to observe that your system's performance speed is reducing since the running program is taking too much time in acquiring its registry entry. * Application crash. An unexpected program termination is can be experienced since the specific program was not able to reach its registration due to the cluttered registry entries. * Programs and applications will start to hang or freeze. When a program is taking too much time to send information to the registry, the program or application will start to freeze or reboot. * System crash. When it becomes significantly damaged, your system will be unbootable. * Virus infection. Once it got infected by a malware, related files like "SYS, DLL, and EXE" are can be damaged, which may affect performing basic computer tasks. * Fragmentation. As junk files continue to accumulate, your system will tend to be fragmented that may eventually lead to a corruption. When these problems start to occur, it is important that you impose an immediate action to fix this to avoid any complication like file corruption. Keep in mind that you need to clean your registry regularly. If you are a tech-savvy then you can manually edit it and fix the problem. However, editing entries manually is not easy and not safe. Take note that you cannot undo the modifications you have done to it so you must be very cautious in making any changes. Fortunately, you can always download a registry cleaner to automatically scan for errors and fix the issues that could be causing the problems with your system. It is important to have your registry regularly maintained to avoid damage. Having it cleaned will keep important files in your computer, such as "EXE" files that are easily infected by a computer virus, from a possible corruption. Also, it is important to keep it clean in order to defragment your system, to be able to save up some space from your computer memory. Windows registry is very essential in keeping your files organized and compact. This is why it is important that you always fix any related problems so that your computer system will function well. A regular clean up will help you to prevent any form of file damage and a possible program or system crash. It can also optimize your computer system and boost your unit's performance. Keeping it in good condition will make your computer system healthy and functioning well. However, hard drives may be filled with data, especially if users tend to save a lot of media files and software. Accumulating data affect performance in the long run. Fortunately, it's possible for users to minimize drive's contents with the right tools and procedures. Free up disk space with the following tips: Monitor Program Installation Use Countless applications are available today, but not everyone will find them beneficial according to their preferences or requirements. Some uninstall these applications to free up disk drive space. On the other hand, some forget to uninstall these programs. One of the important tips to free space is to monitor software installation and use. A good practice is to check your hard drive and program sets every 30 days. Remove programs that you haven't accessed within this time as they are unlikely to used in the future. Load System Maintenance System maintenance tool is a good option if setting up program monitoring schedule is impossible. This tool helps in doing various maintenance tasks in the computer including checking for unused programs or junk files. It scans and reports unused programs within the last month or so. Users can then uninstall these programs to free space. Load system maintenance by going to Control Panel and type "troubleshooter" on the search box within the window. Click on Troubleshooting and results will show several tools used for performance and maintenance. Find this system maintenance tool under System and Security option. The tool will be launched by click Run maintenance tasks. Follow the instructions and start scanning. Remove recommended program to save space. Apart from programs, this tool can also remove unused documents, which is beneficial if the computer managed to collect incomplete downloads or PART files. They are incomplete and corrupted, so users won't use them. System maintenance will mark them as unused and delete. Remove Programs with an Uninstaller Uninstalling a program often leaves several components behind unless their uninstallers are designed to remove related components and folders. Therefore, uninstalling a program may not necessarily free space. This resulted to the creation of uninstallers, the special programs meant for uninstalling software. Depending on their build, uninstallers can remove folders and registry entries. Using these programs can be beneficial in significantly freeing hard drive space. Scan Using a Good Junk File Cleaner Junk files refer to unused files of varying types that simply consume space inside the drive. Most people notice that they have significant amount of junk components due to the amount of registry logs left after software uninstallation, documents, downloaded installers, and others. Apart from being junk, they also tend to cause various issues due to incompatibility with other software in the system. While removal is simple, identifying system trash is impossible because of their confusing descriptions and filenames. A good junk file cleaner will scan the hard drive and report these detected components. It should have one-click junk file deletion to ensure its effectiveness in cleaning junk files. Some cleaners may have expert modes where users can select their needed documents and save them from removal for various reasons. Remove Other Files with Disk Cleanup Disk cleanup is one of Windows' utilities that wipe out other essentially junk. It removes temporary files, thumbnails, downloaded programs, and a lot more. Temporary files are temporary documents that come with accessing a website or streaming videos online. A person who streams online videos regularly may have up to several gigabytes worth of these leftover logs. This tool will remove these temporary components and free space. Besides temporary files, this tool can also deal with Recycle Bin files and error reporting logs. They also tend to consume space as the operating system keeps them for users' benefit. Disk Cleanup also scans for unused programs and make them candidates for removal. Access this tool by typing Disk Cleanup on search box after clicking Start menu. Select the component types and locations to clean. The amount of stored data is listed for your reference. Check and click OK to start deleting. Use an Antivirus Program for Malware Detection Some malwares tend to duplicate data. Most people don't know that these are malware because they look like legitimate programs. An antivirus program will check for viruses like worms that duplicate data and delete them. The program will delete both the virus and replicated data. Overall, freeing up space is easy with these tools. Use them immediately and save several gigabytes of space in your drive for performance enhancement. Typically, the Windows Task Manager is often used to end unresponsive applications in your program. If you click on the Memory (Private Working Set) heading, then it will arrange the programs based on its "CPU" and "RAM" usage. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

One of these files is the Dynamic Link Library or the "DLL" files. DLL is a library of files that contains codes and data that are shared by different programs installed in your computer, all at the same time. Since many programs use a certain kind of DLL file, problems may occur when executing a computer task. One file that is affected is the Kernel32 file. Kernel32.dll is an essential part of Windows operating system as it is important in memory management. It is the one that is responsible in performing the computer's input and output processes and system interrupts. Problems with Kernel32 is hard to fix, and should be fixed immediately to avoid further system issues to arise. Errors occur when a certain application or program failed to execute due to low computer memory. In fixing these errors, you can either do a manual fixing by performing troubleshooting methods, or you can also do an automatic repairing. One common problem that is associated with Kernel32 is that when the said file is missing or cannot be found. In fixing this, you can download a compatible version to replace the faulty one. However, you should be careful in downloading the file since one wrong move can only worsen the situation. Other errors also include blue screen, application crash, and screen freeze. In manually fixing Kernel32 problems in general, you can do the following steps: 1. Go to My Computer and go to Local disk C. 2. Locate the folder named as Windows and click it. 3. When accessed, locate the folder named as "System32" and click it. 4. In the System32 folder, find those files with Kernel32 on their file names. 5. If you find an exe file, you have to get rid of it since it is a computer virus. You can remove it by using an anti-spyware software to scan and remove the file for you. Be reminded that you cannot just simply delete the file to avoid more problems. 6. If you happen to find a DLL file, you may not have a malware infection but you still need to fix the file. You have the option to download a same file to replace the file that is causing the errors. If the Kernel32.dll file is causing the errors, you can perform the following troubleshooting steps to repair it. 1. In your Windows desktop, click the Start button to open up the Search option. 2. In the search bar, type ".pwl" to locate files with the same extension. 3. When found, delete those files. Take note that deleting them will also mean that the saved passwords will be deleted so make sure that you make a back-up. 4. Update your device drivers as they usually the main cause of Kernel32.dll errors. 5. Go back to the Windows desktop, click the Start button and open the Run option. A prompt box will appear. In here, type "msconfig" then click OK. 6. When a dialog box appears, select the MSConfig tab then click it. When you see the "New" option, click it, too. 7. Another prompt message will appear. When you see the option "Add," select it. You will be asked to type something in the type box. Enter the following line: "DEVICE=C:WINDOWSHIMEM.SYSTESTMEM:ON" then press the OK button. 8. Restart your computer. If during the start-up, an error message pops-up saying that the system was able to detect an unreliable memory, this means that your computer has memory issues that needs an immediate action. 9. Once done, run a malware scan and have a registry cleaner scan your computer system to be able to detect other sources of errors. If you find the manual fixing too technical for you to follow, you have the option to do an automatic fixing. With this method, it is not only that the damaged or corrupted file is being fixed, it will also clean and repair any registry-related problems that may be contributing with your computer problems. Here are the steps in troubleshooting errors using an automatic repairing: 1. Download a DLL fixer program from a trusted cyber source. 2. Run a quick scan to your system to identify the problems. 3. Once done, you will have the option on what you will do next with the system. You can optimize your Windows or do a fix-all for all the faulty files in your computer. Fixing problems related with Kernel32 may be a little confusing. But if you study well the troubleshooting methods and understand them, you will be able to repair the damaged files. However, if you feel that you are not capable in doing the repairing, you can ask for a technical support to avoid further damages to your computer. They mainly started appearing in laptops during this time wherein noise cancellation and usage on uneven surfaces were some of the user concerns that affected the popularity of the standard Hard Disk Drives (also known as HDD). More popularly referred to as SSD, Solid State Drives differ from the usual disk drives in the way that data is stored. HDDs use a magnetic disk that is spun at high speeds and fed to a reader that finds the information stored within the disk; much similar to the way a phonograph works. SSDs are composed of a series of chips that are connected and powered. This can be roughly compared to several powerful flash drives put together in a larger device to hold large amounts of information. A comparison between SSDs and HDDs shows a slight tip in favor of SSDs when it comes to performance and speed. There are a few characteristics about these non-spinning drives that make them a faster option: 1. Less Fragmenting - As compared to storing data in a specific location on a magnetic disk, SSDs host one large memory station wherein all files are placed. The computer no longer needs to move a mechanized reader over a spinning disk to find particular files. When more data is saved unto a magnetic disk, there is a higher tendency for the data to become cluttered. This feature is absent from SDDs which means it takes less time to open programs and access information. 2. Less Errors regarding "DLL, SYS and EXE files" - Due to less fragmenting, important boot files and ".exe,.dll and.sys" files are found faster. This results to a lower tendency for these files to go missing or to become corrupted when new programs and updates are installed. That translates into fewer malfunctions. 3. Faster Boots - When a computer running an HDD is powered, the hard drive has to bring the disk to a particular speed before it can start reading anything from it. This is what makes boot times long. On top of getting the disk to spin, it then has to find the files on it. With SDDs, there is nothing to spin. This guarantees more constant and shorter wait times for the computer to start up. 4. One less area of malfunction - When an HDD starts acting up, it could point to a problem with the disk or the reader. This means that even if the magnetic disk is fine, the mechanical parts of the reader might give in to wear and tear long before the disk starts to deteriorate. This does not happen with SDDs due to the storage facilities of this type of drive. Although seemingly beneficial to computer owners, SSDs come at a higher price. Since they are a more recent form of technology, a 500GB drive using this technology costs around 550 to 610 dollars in the market. It can be said that anything new is guaranteed to come at a premium. Solid State drives are no exception to this trend. Despite being expensive, heavy computer and laptop users take advantage of the features of SSDs. They are easier to take along on long trips and enable computers to run in less than optimum conditions. SSDs enable laptops simply to be folded closed without damaging the hard drive because it doesn't need constant spinning. This means people who are in a hurry can pause their work and immediately be able to access it when they open their portable computer at a later time. SSDs can also handle programs that handle large files. Such examples are photo and video editing software. Graphic artists and designers are more suited for these devices. Gamers also prefer SSDs in their computers because of lower lag tendencies and glitches when they play. It is advised that users first take a look at their usage behavior and budget before investing in a change of hard drive. An SSD may seem like a good investment but there are some users who do not rely on speed that much but affordable storage. The HDD would be more suitable because these drives cost less at larger storage capacities. Owners who keep a lot of pictures and videos and documents get more value out of their money with an HDD. At the end of the day, it all boils down to maintenance. No matter how efficient or expensive a hard drive may be, poor cleaning and constant exposure to viruses will surely cause early deterioration to these devices. With developments and upgrades constantly appearing in the market, some people simply do not bother doing maintenance on their computers and simply dismiss slow computers as "past their prime" and immediately look for a better model. Although buying a new computer can instantly solve an aged computer, this option is not available to people on a budget, but this does not mean they have to put up with long boot times, blue screens and instant shutdowns. A simple process known as defragging can improve performance and somewhat postpone decisions to buy another unit. Defragmenting is known as the process of reversing the fragmentation of files on a hard drive. Fragmentation occurs with prolonged use and poor maintenance. This is when PCs tend to end up with plenty of files scattered across the free spaces within their memory, thus causing slower process executions and file opening and other bugs and errors. Defragmenting counteracts these issues, and in turn restores efficiency to the computer in several ways: 1. Faster Boot Times -This phenomenon occurs when the startup system takes too long to find certain files that are needed when the computer is started. These are known as boot files. Defragmenting organizes these files into a cluster and makes it easier for the computer to find and access them. The faster the processor finds the boot files, the faster the starting time. 2. Less "DLL, SYS and EXE" errors - The most common error associated with these file types are the ones wherein the computer cannot find them. This could be due to the possibility that these files could be hidden in inappropriate folders or duplicated in several locations. A good example will be.exe files. Sometimes, applications and programs take too long to open or do not open at all because the.exe file is missing. Defragmenting sorts out the files on the computer and allows the computer to access these files faster. 3. Discover problem areas in the hard drive - After defragmentation, the system provides a report of the changes that were made during the process. It will also report what areas it could not defragment due to corrupted files. These broken files take up space on the drive and may even affect processing performance just by simply being there. With this information, a computer owner can look at the program files for that specific area. The owner can then get rid of the problematic areas. 4. Less Effort on the Hardware - With easier to locate files, the internal workings of the hard drive do not have to go such lengths to reach and access the data they need to. This means a reduced exposure to wear and tear on account of exerting less effort and resources to complete certain actions. This immediately adds more time to the lifespan of your hard drive and in turn, the whole computer. 5. Tighter Security - With defragmented files, the efficiency of anti-virus programs increases as well. These applications take less time to scan areas of interest on the hard drive. It also allows for a higher chance of isolating and deleting viruses before the integrity of other necessary files and data is compromised. Detecting these problems also becomes less of a task because an unwanted virus is sure to stand out after defragmentation. The system is trained to sort files that it normally uses. A foreign element such as a virus that has no specific classification under the defragmentation will show up as unmoved. These consequences make disk defragmentation a necessary step in making sure any desktop computer lasts a considerable amount of time. What makes defragmenting even more ideal is the fact that it is simply another command that is given to the computer. Windows Operating Systems allows users to start a defragmentation under the System Tools section found within the Accessories Menu. A simple click will prompt the process. Depending on how much data is on the hard drive, the whole process should take a few hours to complete. This is why defragmenting is mostly done during off-peak hours when the computer is usually not being used. Along with registry cleaning and anti-virus scans, disk defragmenting stands as another tool through which owners can take care of their units. Because these methods are both free and easy to use, owners have no excuse not to perform their responsibility to properly maintain their desktop computers. Author: Carol Oon Word Count: 559 Article URL: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=1913547&ca=Home+Management Format: 64cpl Contact The Author: http://www.isnare.com/eta.php?aid=1913547 Easy Publish Tool: http://www.isnare.com/html.php?aid=1913547 *********************** ARTICLE START *********************** Unlike incandescent bulbs, high-power LED tube lighting cannot be simply plugged into a wall socket. Several companies are working to overcome the technological and economic challenges by developing LED light fixtures and retrofit LED light tubes using high-power LEDs. Thermal management, complex drive circuitry, optics, and packaging are challenging hurdles for developers to contend with. There are also educational barriers to overcome in the development of commercial LED illumination products. Getting users to adopt new types of fixtures, understand the illumination characteristics of LEDs, choose the appropriate viewing angle for a given application, select the appropriate intensity for a given application, and understand the limitations of LED color temperatures are pivotal to developing the market for LED technology in commercial and residential lighting. The Illumination Angle LEDs are extremely energy-efficient from an illumination efficacy standpoint, ie, lumens per watt. Upwards of 95 percent of the light can be directed at the target area of illumination whereas a typical incandescent bulb may be only 60 percent effective. In other words, a lot of the light produced by an incandescent bulb does not go to the intended target. Incandescent bulbs require reflectors, louvers, and/or diffusers to compensate for unnecessary light. Fluorescent bulbs are more energy-efficient than incandescents, but the ballast may consume up to 20 percent of the electrical energy going into the fixture. Retrofitting LED technology in traditional luminaries is tricky because most fixtures are designed to overcome the limitations of traditional spherical light output. Reflectors, cones, masks, shades and diffusers help bend, redirect, or shield the light emitted from incandescent, fluorescent and halogen sources, but it creates unnecessary physical barriers for implementing LED technology. Designing specific forward-fit LED-based luminaries can produce several times foot-candles on a given area per watt than other traditional incandescent bulb technologies. Because of the directional illumination pattern that LEDs provide the light can be directed to the specific area that needs to be illuminated. The Light Color Over the years, fluorescent bulb manufacturers had some challenges getting users to accept the white color produced by fluorescent technology. Because of the limitations of phosphor technology, the fluorescent industry introduced subjective terms such as "cool white" or "warm white" to draw comparisons to incandescent white. Not coincidentally, white LED manufacturers face the same challenges since white LED technology is based on phosphor energy. To put things in quantitative perspective, LED manufactures have referred to Color Rendering Index (CRI) which is a measurement of a light source's ability to render colors accurately. The higher the CRI, the more natural the colors appear, with natural sunlight having a CRI of 100. However, this may not be the best metric for comparing light sources. But the bigger issue is, the light intensity benchmark for an LED fjuorescent tube lamp is not the watt. Traditional LEDs used for simple status indication and displays come in small epoxy packages and their light output is measured in candelas because this is a measurement of direct-view luminous intensity. With the recent development of high-power LEDs for illumination purposes, the lux or lumen (one lux is equal to one lumen per square meter) is a more suitable unit of measurement to compare the LED tube light lamp output to traditional sources because we are more concerned about the volume of light rather than the directional intensity. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

Author: Carol Oon Word Count: 541 Article URL: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=1913552&ca=Home+Management Format: 64cpl Contact The Author: http://www.isnare.com/eta.php?aid=1913552 Easy Publish Tool: http://www.isnare.com/html.php?aid=1913552 *********************** ARTICLE START *********************** There are millions of general service fluorescent tubes in the market place today, until recently these were considered the most energy efficient lighting solution available. The downside to this form of lighting is that each tube contains a small amount of mercury vapour, a toxic heavy metal. This can provide not just a health risk when the tubes are broken, but can also accumulate in landfills before entering the water table or causing further pollution. LED lights bulbs a Light Emitting Diode lamp use light emitting diodes to produce light. LED tube lamps are one of the most convenient alternatives for traditional bulbs. The amount of light emitted by a single light emitting diode is very small as compared to compact fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps. So, multiple diodes are used for producing more light. A LED lamp operates on the basis of solid state lighting technology. The solid state technology involves the production of light from a solid object and not from vacuum or gas. Different types of light emitting diodes used in LED tube lamps are organic LEDs, polymer LEDs and conventional semiconductor light emitting diodes. With the improvement in the diode technology, high power LEDs, with higher lumen output have become very popular. High power commercial light emitting diode lamps can emit 7,500 lumens with 100 watts electrical power. Light emitting diodes operate on direct current or DC electrical power. They can also operate on standard AC electrical power with the help of external or internal rectifier circuits. Light emitting diodes usually get damaged by functioning at high temperatures. So, the LED lamps feature heat management elements, such as cooling fins and heat sinks. These heat management elements provide long service life to the LED light bulbs. LED light bulbs have a variety of applications. Light emitting diode lamps are used for both special purpose and general lighting. These lamps are widely used in commercial buildings, homes, small rooms, hallways, solar-powered gardens, gardening and agriculture industry. Also, they are used as reading lamps, traffic signal lights, bicycle lights, walkway lights and flashlights. These lamps are also used as hanging decorative lights. You can use these lights to decorate your home during festivals and special occasions. For instance, you can use string of LED lights for decorating your Christmas tree. LED lights bulbs are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. LED light bulbs has become extremely popular due to their high energy efficiency, high stability, short response time, environment friendliness and cost effectiveness. LED lamps have several benefits over the conventional incandescent lamps: Energy Efficiency: According to several reports LED tube lights consume 50 to 80% less energy as compared to traditional light bulbs. These lamps produce more light with lesser electricity. Further, the efficiency of these lights is not affected by their shape or size. Long Life Time: These lamps have a long life time. These lamps last from 20,000 to 100, 00 hours under proper voltage and current. Further, these lamps are very durable, rust proof and mechanically robust. Further, these lights do not use mercury or any other toxic materials like traditional lamps. These eco-friendly lamps are fully recyclable and do not emit any harmful fumes. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

The good news is that installing LED tube lights in an existing fluorescent fixture is relatively simple. In addition, you should be able to buy fixtures especially designed for LED tube light bulbs in the near future, and they should actually be cheaper than the equivalent fluorescent fixtures. Fluorescent fixtures are designed to support a specific types and size of fluorescent tube. A fluorescent tube is incorporated into a fluorescent lighting system which consists of two or three main components of the fluorescent lamp (fluorescent bulb or tube), the ballast, and of course the starter system. Additionally, the system for a tube lamp includes a lamp holder and a switch. Depending on the particular fluorescent lighting system, the starter may be a replaceable component, a starter may not be required, or the starter function may be integrated into the ballast. The starting function may also rely on the physical design of the fixture. To retrofit a fluorescent light fixture to support a LED tube light, the ballast must be disconnected. Once the old traditional bulbs are removed from the lamp holders and the electricity to the fixture is turned off, you will probably have to remove the reflector that is located behind the bulbs and provides a housing for the wiring and ballast that lie behind it. Typically, it is fairly simple to remove the reflector or cover, but if it is not clear how to do this, you should consult the documentation from the fixture manufacturer. If the fixture has an electronic ballast, you only need to remove that and then wire the power directly to the lamp holders, completing one circuit for each bulb. This is fairly simple, and typically you can use the existing wire in the fixture and then just add some wire nuts. If you have an older fixture with a magnetic ballast and starter, you will have to remove or open the starter and remove or short the magnetic ballast. Depending on how much wire you have to work with, it is a good idea to leave long enough wires leading out of the ballast to be able to reconnect the ballast with wire nuts, if you should ever want to convert the fixture back to use for fluorescent bulbs or want to use the ballast somewhere else. Typically, the ballast will have two screws or bolts holding it in place in the fixture, and these can be removed using a screwdriver or pair of pliers, as appropriate. You have to dispose the ballast according to the local regulations as should the old fluorescent bulbs. Because the fluorescent bulbs contain a small amount of highly-toxic mercury, they should be treated as hazardous waste and disposed of accordingly. Once the ballast (and starter, if one was present) have been removed and the wires reconnected to complete a circuit for each bulb, replace the reflector or cover over the wiring and the area where the ballast was located, and the LED tube light bulb can be inserted in the end sockets. Unlike traditional bulbs which do not have a top or bottom, LED tube lights will have an obvious top and bottom, with metallic heat sink located on the backside of the tube and the LEDs visible under a lens on the side that will be aimed towards the area which is to be illuminated. Turn on the switch and if you have done everything properly, now you should have as good or better lighting using approximately half the electricity and lasting as long as 50,000 hours or more. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

The downside to this for of lighting is that each tube contains a small amount of mercury vapour, a toxic heavy metal. This can provide not just a health risk when the tubes are broken, but can also accumulate in landfills before entering the water table or causing further pollution. Fluorescent lamps use electricity to excite mercury vapour inside the glass tube and always require a ballast to regulate the flow of power through the lamp. A starter is in the circuit to heat the contact ends of the tube that ionizes the mercury vapour creating UV light. The inside of the tube is coated with a phosphor material that glows when exposed to the UV light produced by the mercury inside the fluorescent tube. Recent developments in SMD (Surface Mount Diode) LED technology have now meant that LED tube lamp are now a reality. LEDs are a more efficient form of lighting product consisting of small chips of conductive material that release light when a current is applied to them. They contain no filaments and can produce up to 25 times more light per watt than conventional light bulbs. LEDs require far less energy in their manufacture than fluorescent tubes, and only 3% of the energy they will consume over their life expectancy is consumed in their manufacture, and they are also produced from non toxic materials. The tubes are made from polycarbonate, a material that is more robust and durable than glass, so accidents will not require special cleanup procedures. While LED technology is more expensive than existing fluorescents at face value, they will last up to 10 times as long, while consuming 65% less energy. In most general purpose lighting applications they additional cost of the LED technology will more than pay for itself within the first 18 months. Recently, LED technology improved quickly. LED (light-emitting-diode) is a semiconductor diode that emits light. It contains solid state technology made in Silicon Valley using similar technologies that are used in the latest microprocessors. It's considered as an energy saving and eco-friendly light source. At present LED tube is accepted in more and more countries. What are advantages of LED tubes? 1. Energy Saving In December 2009, efficiency of LED tubes can be 90-100lm/w (transparent cover). It's about 2 times to efficiency fluorescent tube. In 2010, efficiency can be 120lm/w. 2. Eco-friendly LED does not contain lead or mercury. It's eco-friendly. Now, eco-friendly products are popular in most of countries. LED tube is one of them. So, it will be more and more popular. 3. Longer Lifespan Lifespan of LED is over 50,000 hours. It's 5 times longer than lifespan of fluorescent tube. 4. Colors Choice Colors of LED can be white, red, blue, green, yellow and so on. If we choose right wavelength, they can be used for plant grow. 5. Dimmable LEDs which are easier to be dimmable and LED tube lamps are able to do this. The only problem is price. As the cost of LED is high, price is over 5 times higher than fluorescent tube. However, LED is a semiconductor diode. Price will be down every year like computers. Therefore, in the near future, the prices will be much reduced. Efficiency will be over 120lm/w. We believe many countries in Europe and North America can accept it. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

Don't think for one minute that signing up to a get rich quick scheme is going to help you. If you really want to see your goals of earning a passive income online succeeding you need to work hard. Below I share my top tips for helping you to get started when it comes to wanting to earn a passive online income without any real struggle. Tip 1 – Start By Ask Yourself " Are You Doing This Just For The Money?" If you want to be able to generate a passive online income it will of course depend largely on who your target audience is. If they start to recognise that you are in it simply to make money rather than providing them with what they need of course they will look elsewhere for what it is they want. When setting up an online business it shouldn't be about how much you can make but it should be about helping others to find a solution to their problem. Tip 2 – You Need To Work Hard If you think that your business is going to start earning you money overnight then think again. Before your business really can succeed you need to be willing to put a lot of time and effort into making sure that you provide your audience with what it is they want. Don't expect your audience to appear suddenly, you'll find it could take several months before you really start to see the kinds of results you desire. If you aren't willing to work at making your online business a success then don't think about setting one up. Tip 3 – Do Not Think That You Can Just Sit Back and Relax When it comes to earning a passive income online we are actually talking about building a business that is automated. However in order to maintain the business automation you need to retain the trust of your target audience. Therefore you will need to actually interact with them once in a while. If you aren't willing to do this then of course interest in your business will soon begin to wane. Tip 4 – Look For A Niche Where You Can Help Most people when looking for ways of how to start earning passive online income without any struggles tend to build something that is designed to serve anybody and everybody. Instead you should be looking for a particular niche that you can specialise in where not many others have already been offering a product or solution to their target audience. If you can look for a niche that you find of interest or that you have some experience with, that will be great. In this way, the message you are going to put across is the kind that will resonate more closely with your audience. However avoid picking topics that are especially popular. The more sites revolving around it means that you have even more people to compete with for getting your target audience to notice you. Tip 5 – Don't Start Charging Straight Away In the beginning if you really want to gain your audiences trust, you need to offer them something for free. It is important that what you offer is something that they are going to find valuable, and which clearly shows your knowledge and expertise. A free report is one way of getting your target audience to begin trusting you. Hopefully if you remember the 5 tips above on how to start earning a passive online income without any struggles, you'll soon start to see your business succeed. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

In winter a book, bottle of red and chocolates make a great present to snuggle up with but with summer on its way there's a whole new range of possibilities for summer loving! You'll start to see a change in your local shopping outlets as bright new colours make their way back in with the new seasons fashions on display. If you were ever stuck for a gift before, use the promise of fun in the sun to get your creative juices flowing to buy a unique and worthy gift that truly celebrates the season of sun. PICNIC BASKET - You can't beat a summer picnic and this gift will provide countless good memories for the person you're giving it too. Think long days on the beach or a day trip to a local park. These baskets come with options for a two or more person setting and often include plates, cutlery and wine glasses. Added extras can include items like a built in cooler or wine opener. The good thing about this gift is you can add more to it if you want. A picnic blanket is a great addition or even add wine and cheese and go on the first expedition! There's a good variety on the market for a range of different price points - think anywhere over $65. POOL TOYS - Summer days mean cooling off in the pool and nothing makes you the life of the party like rocking up with some fun stuff to play with in the pool. This option is both adult and child-friendly. For the adults, bring along an inflatable bar cooler. Equipped with an ice chest in the middle to keep your drinks and nibbles cold this floating fridge means less time out of the water grabbing snacks. For the kids, there is a great range of toys on the market to choose from. Some top choices are simple pool noodles for the cash-strapped or an Aqua Roller. An Aqua Roller inflates into a giant circle that the kids can climb inside and roll through the water. Of course, the first thing to note here is that your gift recipient must have a pool - if they don't a paddling pool gift wouldn't go astray. OUTDOOR SPORTS - It's great fun being outdoors when the sun is shining and a sporting gift is an ideal group gift for the whole family. An old classic is of course cricket and you can pick up a bat, ball and wickets at a good price for hours of fun - just make sure you work out the rules to avoid arguments. Other family favourites are swingball, badminton and volleyball. Something you may not have tried before in the grand outdoors is lawn-sized Scrabble or Twister. You can buy these from an online shop or simply make your own. Again, a great gift to show up at a friend's party... get your game on! ANYTHING FROZEN - That's right - it's hot and your friends or family will love you when they receive a gift that helps them cool down. There's lots of tasty options to be had and most require minimal effort. Without spending a fortune (in fact for under $100) you can find unique summer gifts like a snow cone or cotton candy maker. Adults will love it for the nostalgia and kids will love it for the taste - but don't worry you can buy sugar-free options too. Slushie machines are another great summer gift which you can add alcohol to for the adults - but beware of brain freeze. BBQ TOOLS - Everyone loves to BBQ in the summer months but things have progressed from the simple grill barbecues of yesteryear. You can now get a range of personalised items like BBQ tong sets with initials engraved on the case or a chopping board with your gift recipients name emblazoned across it. Items for the home that add the 'cool effect' to your friends BBQ setting will be genuinely appreciated and novelty gifts like a fruit drink dispenser or glow-in-the-dark beer glasses will go down well. These add to party atmosphere but if your setting is a little more subdued then try a more classy gift like a stainless steel ice bucket stand or gourmet food gift basket. You can make up the gourmet gift basket yourself with BBQ-themed items like chilli salts, flavoured cooking oils and boutique beers. CAMPING EQUIPMENT - Another family favourite pastime and one that can be undertaken bare-bones style or in complete luxury. And why shouldn't you give the gift of easy living to your gift recipient while they're toughing it out in the great wilderness? Giving the right gift for camping could make you a friend for life if you choose wisely. A multipurpose radio could do the trick and you can now pick up a camping radio that not only provides music it also acts as a torch and charger for your smartphone. You can also buy radios with LED lights and sirens and truly save your friends life in an emergency. Pocket hammocks, pop up beer glasses and portable wine glasses also make great camping gifts. Author: Mark Madsen Word Count: 626 Article URL: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=1913622&ca=Self+Help Format: 64cpl Contact The Author: http://www.isnare.com/eta.php?aid=1913622 Easy Publish Tool: http://www.isnare.com/html.php?aid=1913622 *********************** ARTICLE START *********************** If you suffer from anxiety problems, then you basically have three options if you want to cure your anxiety: Self-help programs, medication and psychotherapy. For reviews of self-help programs and to learn more about how to cure anxiety, click on the links below. Option 1: Self-help Programs When suffering from anxiety, self-help programs are a good place to start. By getting the right information, you may be able to cure the anxiety yourself. Self-help programs educate you about anxiety and techniques to cope with anxiety. There are several advantages by choosing this option. One big advantage is that self-help methods are a lot cheaper than medication and psychotherapy. A good self-help program might cost between $65 and $150, while a session of psychotherapy might cost between $125 and $200. When doing psychotherapy you may have to go to 10-20 sessions. So, the total cost of psychotherapy can be as much as $4000. Many of the self-help programs also have a money-back guarantee, so if for some reason the program doesn't work for you, you can just ask for your money back. Another advantage with self-help programs is that some of them include forums where you can connect with others who suffer from anxiety. It can be of great help to share your experience with other anxiety sufferers, and relate to other peoples experiences. This is an aspect that medical treatments and psychotherapy lack (with the exception of group-therapy). Many anxiety sufferers find this factor to be the most therapeutic element. Some self-help programs also include assistant from professional counselors and psychologists. To get an experts advice and guidance can be very helpful when you struggle with anxiety. For reviews of self-help programs, click on the links below. Option 2: Medication Medication can be helpful when you suffer from anxiety. There are several different types of medications. If you consider using medication to cure your anxiety, then there are three categories of drugs you should know about: 1. Tricyclic antidepressants: such as Imipramine 2. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors: such as Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft; and Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors: such as Effexor 3. Benzodiazepines: such as Alprazolam, Valium and Clonazepam When using drugs, it's important to consult with your doctor and follow his or her recommendation. Drugs are very helpful when struggling with anxiety. However, medication is most useful when the anxiety is of a severe degree. There are several disadvantages with using medication to treat anxiety, including side-effects like: -Blurred vision -Dry mouth -Difficulty urinating -Constipation -Weight gain -Sexual dysfunction Just to name a few. Also, medication is an external way of coping with the anxiety, and you might create a psychological dependency on the drug because you feel like you can't cope without it. Self-help programs and psychotherapy creates a coping strategy where you are dealing with the anxiety, and are not dependent on a drug. Option 3: Psychotherapy There are several different forms of psychotherapy for anxiety. One of the most used, and probably the most researched therapy when it comes to anxiety is cognitive behavioral therapy. In this type of therapy, you and the therapist work together on ending the anxiety. The therapist will educate you about the type of anxiety that you suffer from, and give you techniques to cope with the anxiety. The therapist will often give you homework assignments where you test out different techniques and strategies. Although therapy can be expensive, it's definitely worth giving it a shot if you have already tried a self-help program. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |

Typically, this is caused by something which is quite typical such as dandruff. Nevertheless, in case your itchy scalp situation can't look to disappear, you could in fact be facing a way more intense condition most notably scalp psoriasis, scalp dermatitis or eczema. You should also get professional counsel from dermatologists or at best a medical doctor to get an appropriate diagnosis. From the correct diagnosis, you are then in a position to identify the various treatment methods. Inspite of this, the following are some conditions that's got itchy scalp being a likely symptom: When you have dry and flaky dust on top of your clothes, you probably are experiencing dandruff. Additionally, you can even experience an itchy scalp that is scaly as well. Everyone seems to be susceptible to Dandruff throughout the dry colder months, that can substantially improve over the spring and summer months. In some instances, dandruff may also result from inadequate shampooing, or scalp sensitivity to ingredients contained in some shampoos. Therefore, an increase of shampooing frequency, plus a modification in shampoo once the dandruff has disappeared could be needed to stop dandruff from returning. Except for your scalp getting inflamed, dandruff can even be treated with zinc pyrithione used in dermatitis products. If your scalp is irritated and inflamed with blisters, there's a chance you're affected by Seborrhoeic Ezcema, or better known as Scalp Eczema. It is thought that Scalp Eczema is the result of overproduction of sebum on the scalp, which consequently stimulates the overproduction of Mallassezia, a fungi that is typically at the skin, but generally won't cause problems. With this, the scalp will get swollen whenever it responds to Malassezia. Salicylic Acid shampoos are excellent to clear away scales from the skin in eczema conditions, while topical anti-fungal remedy lessens the fungi on your skin. Apart from that, Corticosteroids are usually an option for irritated skin. Yet another kind of itchy scalp condition is psoriasis on the scalp. If you have scalp psoriasis, it's probable that someone else within your family does as well. This disorder happens when a kind of white blood cells referred to as T cells are just over active and result in immune reactions leading to blood vessel dilation within an infected region. Consequently, with an over growth of typical skin cells that causes scaly patches to develop on the skin's surface. Treatment for scalp psoriasis involve special shampoos as well as topical ointments. The types of shampoo used are the coal tar, salicylic Acid, as well as Clobetasol variety shampoos. To complement the treatment solution, corticosteroids, Vitamin D3 analogs and retinoids are standard contents in creams useful to prevent keratinocytes from getting over produced. At the end of the day, some types of scalp psoriasis treatments may work for some, and not for others The reality is that, proper medical diagnosis is needed, taking into consideration the severity of the condition, and the type of response the body is giving towards the multiple treatment options. *********************** ARTICLE END *********************** - To distribute your articles go to http://www.isnare.com/distribution.php - For more free-reprint articles go to http://www.isnare.com |
