Grand Canyon raft tours are a fantastic summer getaway. They are wildly popular as you might imagine, so get your seats early or you might miss out.

Find Tour Location On Google Maps

First, let's look at one-day raft tours that depart from the Grand Canyon's South Rim, which is the main point of entry to the National Park. If you want to find this location on Google Maps, just search for Tusayan, AZ.

There are two choices in float trips of the South Rim. The first tour takes you by bus to your raft, which waits at the base of Glen Canyon Dam in Page, AZ. The other tour takes you to Page by airplane instead and also includes a fun Jeep ride through Antelope Canyon.

The river portion of your tour takes you on a raft down river for 15.3 miles until you come to Lee's Ferry. After that, you take a bus ride back to where you started in Tusayan.

    No Rough Water

This float tour does not venture into rough waters so it is suitable for kids age four and over. All ages enjoy this fun tour, even seniors. You can take a whitewater tour if you want, these are the multi-day tours that cost around $1500 for each person.

There is another fun one-day raft tour that leaves from Las Vegas. With this tour, you take a helicopter to the West Rim and descend to the canyon floor. After that, you hop on a motor coach for a ride to your boat which waits at the base of Hoover Dam.

This rafting tour covers eleven miles of the Colorado River. You get to see scenic Black Canyon as you wend your way to Willow Beach. You will have great fun catching glimpses of the many species of wildlife that call the Grand Canyon home.

    Best Time For Float Tours

Grand Canyon rafting trips operate April to November. It is just too cold to be on the water during the winter and early spring. Plus, during that time, snow from the Rocky Mountains melts and causes the river to swell and move swiftly as the excess water rushes its way to the Sea of Cortez in Mexico.

Don't forget these tours are very popular. You want to book your float tour about a week in advance if you can. Waiting until the last minute to get your seats is just too risky. You will probably be left disappointed if you try to get your seats the day of your tour, especially if you are starting from Williams or Flagstaff, and remember, if you are in those cities, you have to factor in an hour's drive to get to your check in point at 6 am.

Just book your seats online so you don't have to worry about it. Just stay away from the travel sites. Buy directly from the tour company's website instead. They operate the raft tours so they can give you the steepest discount. You will be able to use the lowest Internet rate when you complete your purchase online.

    To Summarize

Your entire family will have a blast on one of these float tours. You can tour the South Rim from Tusayan or the West Rim from Vegas. The tours take all day so be prepared to leave early, there are no half-day tours. Book your tour online to get the low internet rate and be sure to book early.

One of the common problems that most people have when it comes to hair is breakage because most of the time, this concern is often overlooked. We are usually unaware of the process of wear and tear that our hair is subjected to everyday, until such time where it will already be too late. Since prevention is better than cure, here are ten tips that you can follow to reduce the incidence of hair breakage.

    1. Keep hair brushing to a minimum - Brushing your hair may be necessary to keep hair well groomed, but you have to make sure that you don't overdo this because it can also lead to a number of broken hairs. The common perception of a hundred strokes daily actually has no factual basis of improving your hair. In fact this can only put your hair strands at risk because of the contact or strain the act of brushing creates. Brushing when your hair is wet is also a very big red flag in hair care because hair strands are highly sensitive to damage at this state. Therefore dry your hair first before combing, and you don't have to reach a hundred brush strokes to keep it groomed and healthy.

    2. Make good use of your towel - Did you know that your towel can be the silent culprit to hair breakage? Many are unaware of how wrapping a towel or rubbing it vigorously over your hair can cause breakage. Making a turban out of it after a shower can actually be detrimental to your strands because it creates a strain particularly on the area near the hairline. As mentioned earlier, hair can be very sensitive to breakage when wet, that is why a tight wrap over the head can be damaging. If you are also fond of vigorously rubbing your hair to dry it after the shower you may also be breaking a dozen hair strands already. A good way to use your towel is to gently squeeze the water out of your hair with it.

    3. Choose the right brush - It is wise to invest in a good brush if you want to avoid damaging your hair. The good way to go is to use brushes with boar bristles with nylon. These are far better than plastic bristles because they are less likely to snag on your hair which might cause it to snap. They are also effective in smoothening out the hair and distributing the natural oils at the same time.

    4. Do not shampoo your hair everyday - If you want to avoid drying out your hair making it more vulnerable to breakage, don't shampoo it more than thrice a week. Shampoo may be able to remove dirt from the hairs but it may also sap out its natural oils. Two to three times in a week is enough to keep it clean while maintaining the oil that is necessary to keep both scalp and hairs strong.

    5. Go for sulfate-free shampoos - This may have to take the extra step of looking for a shampoo that doesn't contain any sulfates. This are the substances that make your soap and shampoo create lather. Unfortunately this can also lead to hair dryness which makes it easier to break. Sulfate-free shampoos are gentler on the hair leaving you with an adequate amount of oils that will protect the hair and nourish it.

    6. Untangle your hair gently - Should you find your hair to be caught in tangles, make sure to smoothen out the problem gently. Tangles can be a nuisance especially when you're on the run. But to avoid hair damage, make sure that you start to untangle your hair from the bottom going up. This will prevent straining the hair with your strokes which can lead to breakage. Use a wide-toothed comb in doing to make it more easy on your locks.

    7. Use the right pillowcase - If your hair is really prone to breakage, it is best to use a silk or satin pillowcase. This will make it easier on your hair because it doesn't create so much friction on your locks as you toss and turn. These type of pillowcases will also prevent absorption of the natural oils from your hair that will leave it dry and more easier to break.

    8. Use conditioner everyday - Coconut oil is one of the tried and tested solutions to weak hair. It helps maintain luscious locks and is a reliable natural preventive measure against hair fall due to too much breakage. A coconut oil massage once or twice a week will not only give you beautiful hair but a resilient one at that.

    9. Regular trims - Conditioning can be a very beneficial part of your hair care regimen in steering clear from falling hair. All you need to do is to prepare a cup of your daily conditioner and mix it with 2-3 tablespoons of honey. Slather this all over your wet hair and leave it on for a good 30 minutes before a thorough rinse. The action of the conditioner is taken further by the nutrients and moisture provided by the honey. This also helps seal the hair cuticles giving the hair great body, a beautiful shine and renewed strength.

As air operators seek to streamline their avenues of expenditure, increasing attention is being paid to the role of "knowledge engineering" in high frequency maintenance of aircraft parts and components.

In line with this, a recently published study commissioned by Susana Ferreiro, a computer engineer of Donostia-San Sebastian, addressed several factors of assistance to air operators in reducing their maintenance costs and improving air safety in the long term.

The research focused on high frequency maintenance issues including the degradation of aircraft brakes, the appearance of burrs during the manufacture of components and the deterioration of oil quality used in lubrication.

The results of the study provide topical value to fleet managers seeking to optimize their maintenance expenditures while offering sound reasoning in support of improved standards of flight safety.

"Irrespective of the fleet scope, maintenance costs routinely account for anywhere between 10 and 45% of annual operating expenses. In any case, this equates to a substantial outlay for air operators. As no reasonable fleet manager would permit a drop in maintenance standards in an effort to reduce costs, many are turning to the role played by 'knowledge engineering' in order to sustain a healthy level of competitiveness.

"This study was interesting from the point of view that it applied techniques based on artificial intelligence, data mining and machine learning to enhance certain elements of aircraft maintenance.

"Although it is too early to tell whether this study will hold a major bearing on changes to aircraft maintenance practices, we are always open to new ideas aimed at addressing lingering problems within the aviation industry," said Dainius Sakalauskas, the Deputy Head of FL Techniques Training.

Managing brake wear limits for aircraft landing gear entails routine line inspections of the assembly. Organized as part of the European TATEM project for increasing aircraft operability by managing the time and cost outlay for scheduled maintenance ,the study made use of algorithms to model solutions to the predictive maintenance of aircraft brake wear.

Specifically, the research looked into estimating the wear of individual brake components in order to plan an effective allocation of resources. This, in turn, would allow maintenance to be deferred to optimal locations and times, as well as improving flight punctuality by lessening delays caused by corrective maintenance.

Additionally, the research sought solutions to controlling the emergence of burrs during the manufacture of aircraft parts. As mandated by the aviation industry, burrs (a material edge disturbance often caused by drilling) must not exceed 127 microns. The study aimed to develop a process whereby checks carried out for material burrs could be optimized by using the internal signals of a drilling machine to detect in real time when the burr limit has been exceeded.

The process routinely and wholly applied to control material burring could thus be applied only when actually necessary.

Perhaps more notably however, the research proposed a model for detecting the extent of oil degradation (used in component lubrication) without the costly requirement for laboratory testing. It focused on spectrometric techniques to determine the basicity of the oil and thereby advise on its current state.

As the properties of oil deplete over time, its monitoring is vital to ensure effective lubrication of various aircraft components. The method allows for a sensor to be incorporated into what is being monitored, making expensive lab testing near redundant.

Sakalauskas suggested: Improving aircraft maintenance with a view to improved standards in air safety is fundamental to all involved in the industry.Indeed, overtime, errors made during routine line and base maintenance have contributed either directly or indirectly to almost 12 percent of airliner accidents across the globe.

"Although significant improvements have been made in this sector, such errors continue to impose a financial burden on airlines on the basis of unforeseen flight delays and cancellations.

"It is therefore essential for maintenance organizations to keep abreast of changes aimed at improving workplace practices in order to ensure they remain competitive," Sakalauskas concluded.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

The International Bureau of Aviation Group has completed a close study of the developing opportunities arising from the exponential growth and profit reported within the African aviation industry.

Africa represents 20, 2% of earths land and, with a population set to double by 2036, aircraft manufacturers have highlighted Africa as a key growth market, thanks to deregulation in the aviation industry, economic and demographic growth.

Although aviation is now forming an essential part of the continents development, the IBA Group (IBA) insists careful consideration must be given to its fundamental infrastructure.

Phil Seymour, IBAs president and COO comments: "The investment opportunities and anticipated growth expected from African aviation must not overlook imperative infrastructure improvements which need to take place. Airports, air traffic control and the regulatory authorities of existing and developing airlines will need to improve to international standards in order to compete successfully".

IBA has pointed out, too, that the prospects for air transport to drive economic and social development in Africa will need to strike a fine balance between available opportunities and their associated challenges. Recent developing ventures have struggled to overcome a range of impediments allied with the complex legal and political issues which plaque much of the continent.

Seymour added: "Virgin Nigeria and Fast jets African plans have both faltered due to the intricate and widespread governmental disputes. Africa has the potential to emerge as a global economic power, but will need to harness the opportunities in order to capitalize on this."

The IBA study shows that the high-cost operating environment means the continents airlines are prevented from forging the important role aviation connectivity and economic growth could play throughout Africa. Fuel costs are frequently 20% more expensive in Africa than the global average, while taxation charges make connecting travel onerous to the consumer.

According to IBAs database ,there are currently 1014 Western built commercial aircraft currently in operation in Africa among 187 operators .Boeing has forecast that Africa will require 900 new aircraft over the next 20 years .Using these aircraft ,aviation will enable global connectivity ,in turn integrating the 54 national economies of Africa to the rest of the world.

Fundamental to the growth of African aviation is the commitment of governments to actively solve corruption on a national scale, combined with effective harnessing of investment opportunities, allowing airlines to follow the solid reputation of South Africa Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways.

Seymour added: "Until more Africa countries embrace the ICAO airworthiness standards and invest in the best quality ad visors, the growth forecasts will not be met. While new aircraft are efficient, they also tie up hard to find capital, reducing profit required for growth.

"Africa needs investment in the simple things, such as experienced pilots and technicians, as well as the structural and more expensive investments in airport and air traffic control systems," he concluded.

Agenda for Cooperation between Airlines and Airports

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has called for a unified agenda between airlines and airports to address the mutual challenges of growth and sustainability.

"Airports are airlines' closest partners. Neither of us could exist without the other," said Tony Tyler, IATA Director General and CEO.

Speaking at the Airports Council International s (ACI) annual congress in Istanbul, Turkey, Tyler noted that major investments in infrastructure would be needed to meet the global demand for air connectivity which, he said, was growing at about 5% annually.

Meeting these requirements efficiently would require close cooperation.

Over the long term, airline profit margins had been insufficient to cover their cost of capital and this also had been the case for some airports, he said, adding: "Neither partner can afford poorly-thought out and overly expensive infrastructure development.

"To avoid this, we must work together in a collaborative process based upon the basic principles laid down by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which include consultation with airport users, transparency, on-discrimination ,cost-based charges, and strict safeguards on pre-financing of future infrastructure."

Tyler also cautioned that "decades of practical experience and longstanding and credible economic theory have shown that most airports have substantial market power.

"Strong independent regulation is required to provide the cost discipline that otherwise would be imposed by the free market.

"The ICAO principles offer sufficient flexibility for regulators to apply various levels of economic oversight where market forces do exist."

Tyler proposed a unified agenda and partnership between airlines and airports based on a mutual understanding that long-term sustainability was an issue for both airlines and airports; recognition that the solution to common challenges was not to take each other in an "Anaconda-like grip" to squeeze out every last penny from one another; working together to help airports find mutually beneficial efficiencies; seeking opportunities for cooperation to enable process improvements and new value added commercial opportunities such as through providing universal access to Wi-Fi ,and scoping out potential for joint business development.

"An agenda of cooperation does not mean that we will agree in every specific instance. But it does mean that we recognize we will achieve far more together than each could on our own," said Tyler.

As each day passes, publicity is becoming more important – in fact, mandatory – as a marketing tool. Used to be that publicity was an adjunct – the typical red-headed stepchild of marketing. All that changed in 2007 (read my earlier articles to find out why).

So, if you're not learning how to get and use publicity, you're going to be left behind. You're quickly going to become a dinosaur. Your competition will win, hands down. Most people think that the press release is the most important part of a publicity campaign. They're wrong. Actually, the press release does very little. But, if it doesn't do it's job – which is simply to get the attention of the reporter – nothing happens. So let's take a look at that press release. Do you know the most important part of the release? You may have guessed…it's the headline. But do you know why?

The headline of a press release has only one job – to FORCE the reporters to keep reading. If you have my publicity kit (www.MillionDollarPublicity.com) you'll see the headlines of the press releases I and my students have written. There's no way you can put down those press releases without reading them from top to bottom. It simply can't be done. That's exactly what I want reporters to do. So how do you write a powerful headline that'll do the job? One way is to sit down with a piece of paper, write out a bunch of headline ideas and test them out. That's the long, tedious way to do it.

The far better way – the way I teach my publicity students – is to use what I call formula headlines. These are headlines that have already been tried, tested and successful. In just a few seconds – literally – you can make tiny adjustments to the headline to make it fit your business, product or service.

Last night I had a coaching call for my paid newsletter subscribers. I gave them a couple of dozen formula headlines and taught them exactly how to customize each one of them faster than they could even read the headline out loud. It took less than 10 seconds.

I'm putting together a product that will not only have my list of 100 or so formula headlines, it'll have complete instructions on how to customize them for your business. I'll let you know when it's ready.

Until then, put the majority of your effort into that headline. If the headline doesn't do it's job, your press release is dead – and you've missed out on thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars of radio or TV air time, newspaper space, magazine space, etc.

Many people brag about how much they make per hour – $250, $500, $800. Almost all of them are missing one of the greatest per-hour income generators on this planet – putting together a powerful headline for a compelling press release.

Over the years I've gotten many, many millions of dollars worth of publicity from a press release that took me about 10 minutes to write. Hmmm, if I calculate that on the "per hour" basis, I may very well be the highest paid person in America… or the world, for that matter! That calls for a soak in the Jacuzzi and a glass of champagne.

PS – If you need headlines, press releases, story idea, opening paragraphs, etc. written specifically for your business, industry or profession, go towww.NichePublicityManuals.com It's all done for you.

I'll bet 99% of people think that a press release does the work in getting publicity for them. Dead wrong. Actually, press releases only do one thing – they open the door to the media. They get the attention of reporters, talk shows hosts, producers, etc. Once the press release does its job – once the release gets the attention of the media people – its job is over. It's of virtually no more use. So if the press release's job is over as soon as it gets the attention of the media people, what actually is responsible for you (and everyone else) getting publicity? What's really pulling the heavy weight in this whole publicity thing? It's something called the Q&A. Very few people know what a Q&A is. Fewer still know how to put one together the right way. Let's take a look at what you need to get publicity and what each part of the system does.

First, there's the press release. Darned important piece of paper. If the press release doesn't do its job, nothing happens. The door to the media jackpot stays firmly closed. You've got to know how to put together a quality press release. It's got to go out into the media world, knock on the doors of media people around your neighborhood or around the world and interest the media people in your story. Once that's done, once the reporter is interested in your story, they're going to want to know more. They're going to want to know who you are. That's what your bio does. It explains to the reporter who you are, what you know and why you're qualified to do an interview. Fine. The reporter is now interested and he knows who you are and what you know. But then there's the final step. Laying out your interview so that it goes where you want it to go.

Many people are afraid of trying to get publicity. They're afraid they'll be asked questions they can't answer. They'll be afraid they'll get nervous. They're afraid the interview will spin out of control and they'll look foolish. When I first started getting publicity, I had the same concerns. Actually, many of these fears became realities. Interviews did spin out of control. I was asked questions that caught me off guard. I was nervous. That's why I started working on my own publicity system. I knew there had to be a better way. And there is a better way – if you know how to put together a great Q&A and put it to use the right way. I'll be spending more time talking about Q&As in the next articld. For now I want you to clearly understand that your press release is vitally important, but it doesn't stop there. If you've been writing press releases but not getting the publicity you feel you deserve, your problem could very well be your Q&A. After all, that's where the real power of any publicity campaign lies. If you don't know how to put together your Q&A the right way, you're cooked. Get busy on your publicity campaigns. Thousands of reporters are waiting for your story, ready to reward you with free publicity to promote whatever it is you want to promote. See you next time.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

I recently received a press release from someone who owns my publicity kit. He asked me to critique the release. The release was a disaster. It was a mess. It took me about 11 seconds to figure out the problem. In that one press release I saw the style of four different publicity "gurus" – people who are respected as experts at getting publicity (and you thought I was the only one! I'm the best, but not the only). This guy had taken a little bit of what each of us teaches and tried to put it all into one press release. It was a complete failure. Not only would he never get a call from reporters, he also would give the reporters a strong signal that he didn't know how to play the publicity game.

I've told you many times in this blog that getting publicity isn't as simple as sending out a press release. Your release gives the reporters lots of clues about you. Probably the most important clue is whether or not you know how to "play the game". If you don't know how to play the publicity game, reporters aren't about to teach you. They'll simply move on to the next person who does give the right clues that they know how to play the game. That way the reporter can be confident that he'll get a good interview with no hassles. I called the guy who sent me the release to critique. I asked him where he learned to write a press release the way he did. It certainly was not from me. He told me he "took the best from each of the four publicity experts I follow and wrote a superstar release". Superstar release? Hardly. It was worthless. I speak at many marketing seminars and bootcamps. From time to time I find people just like him. They jump from guru to guru. Grabbing a little here and a bit there, thinking they're going to produce some spectacular marketing piece. The results are always miserable. That's "guru wandering". The same holds true with publicity. There are many different "systems" for getting publicity. Lots of different styles. Obviously, I feel mine is the best. I have the results to back that up, both mine and my members's.

We get these great results because we focus on one system, one person's advice. We follow the templates, the style, the techniques I've developed to the letter. Every rare once in a while someone will contact my office to tell us "Your system doesn't work." Not possibly true. The system has worked over and over again for decades. The truth is most probably that they decided to get creative and succeeded in screwing everything up.

When I look at the press release of the person claiming that my system doesn't work, sure enough I see that they've strayed from my system. "Where did you learn to do this?" "Why did you include this?" "Who told you to do that?" are the typical questions I asked. The response is almost always the same – "I just wanted to add my own little touches to the release."

Hopefully anyone who offers a publicity or marketing system – or a system to do anything for that matter – has tested the system and proven it works. You do an injustice to yourself and the creator of the system by "guru wandering". I follow the systems of other people who know more than I do about their particular area. Dan Kennedy is a perfect example.

A long time ago I realized that Kennedy's principles were consistently working for me. They made sense. I was able to put them into action with the least amount of fuss. They made money for me. Recently I took a further step in that direction. I sold off almost all of the marketing materials I owned from other "marketing gurus".

Selling off the other marketing material benefited me in several ways. I donated all of the money from the sale to our non-profit dog rescue sanctuary AuntMarysDoghouse.com. I cleaned off a huge amount of room in my library. And I cleared out my brain, allowing me to focus on one path. Does that mean I completely ignore information from any other marketing expert.

No, I don't. But I'm very cautious about what I include in my marketing tools. I've found someone who has information that I can easily and quickly turn into more business and more profits. I'd be doing an injustice to both myself and Dan by taking a little bit of Kennedy and a little bit of 5 other marketing people and trying to make a successful marketing piece.

Obviously, I hope you have decided to follow my system of getting publicity. It's significantly different than any other system out there.

But if you haven't – if you're "guru wandering" – do yourself and me a favor. Settle in on one of us and focus on what we tell you. Your results will be far greater than that "guru stew" you've been brewing up.

If you decide to follow another publicity expert, put your total effort into what they recommend. Prove to yourself that what they're telling you works. When it does, squeeze it for everything it's worth. You've hit a goldmine. If you've decided to follow my publicity system, go to:http://www.MillionDollarPublicity.com get my kit and get up to speed quickly.

The opportunities for you to get publicity are all around you, every day of the year. But focus on one system for getting that publicity and use it to get the word out about you and your business – and to put profits in your bank account.

In the "old days" (before the Internet) when a customer of a business got bad service, there wasn't a whole lot they could do. Sure, they could tell the story to a few friends, but that's about it. Bring on the Internet and social media and we have a whole different story. Now, when people get inappropriate service, the entire world can find out in a few minutes. Customers have enormous power thanks to social media.

Now the big question – why aren't more businesses aware of this and why don't they act accordingly? Why are they willing to risk such bad publicity that can quickly do serious damage to their reputation, revenue and a whole lot more? I don't get it!

Last Thursday I called DirecTV because I received a promotion offering me their TV service for $19.95 per month for the first 12 months. But, the deal required a 24 month contract. I wanted to know the cost of their service during that second year. So I called them. I got a representative on the phone and told her I had a very simple question – "How much does your service cost during the second year of this two year contract?" Simple enough, right? Apparently not, since the rep told me that she didn't have that information at her finger tips. Rather, she'd have to "dig into" her computer to get it. Was she telling me that the DirecTV phone reps couldn't answer that basic question? Guess so! She also told me that to get the information she'd need more information about me, such as my name, address, zip code, phone number, etc. (Hmm, wonder why they "need" all that information?) So I made it all up. They can play a ridiculous game, so can I.

During this process I kept asking the rep why she needed this information and why she couldn't simply tell me the cost for the second year. By this time I'd been on the phone with this rep for 6-7 minutes, I'd guess. Then she hits me with the big one… In order to answer my simple question, she would have to do a credit check on me!!! That did it. I called a halt to this nonsense. I asked her very directly whether or not she was going to tell me the cost for the second year. She put me on hold. When she came back, she very abruptly said "It's $72.99 per month. Have a blessed day!". I'm not one to be treated like that, so I got this rep's supervisor on the phone. I ran down the entire episode for her and she very quickly also told me that the second year would cost $72.99. So it appears someone does actually have the price at her fingertips. I mentioned this ruckus to a friend of mine who said: "Why aren't you using Hulu.com?". I had forgotten all about Hulu.com. I immediately went to their website and found all the shows I want – and plenty more – all for free. Why does anyone still pay for cable TV? So, this whole DirecTV episode had a silver lining for me. DirecTV doesn't get me as a customer and I get all the TV I want for free!

When you're dealing with customers, inquiries, prospects, etc. always keep in mind that customers have never-before-experienced power thanks to social media. Social media can be enormously helpful in building your business. It can just as easily put some major scars on your business plan.

I just finished scanning the headline news for today. Let's see, someone is selling a corn flake shaped like Illinois. Halle Berry finally "revealed" the name of her baby. A Harvard University study shows that nice guys really DO finish first.

How pathetic have we become? Did you see the story about the Illinois-shaped corn flake? Damned if it looks like Illinois to me! (Hey, I have an index card shaped like Wyoming. Maybe I should sell it on ebay. Oh yeah, all index cards are shaped like Wyoming. Never mind.)

And Halle Berry's little spawn. Oooo, the tension. The drama. I was on the edge of my chair for days waiting for the big announcement of what some woman I don't know, will never meet and could care less about is going to name her child. And that was the top headline story of the day! I won't even dignify Harvard University's "study", but don't they have better things to do? What's the moral of this rant? Reporters are so hungry for good stories that they're having to report on corn flakes. Pitiful. Pitiful for the reporters and pitiful for the people who haven't taken the small amount of time needed to learn the right way to get publicity.

Springtime is coming. Do you know anything about gardening, auto repair, real estate, cooking, health and fitness or any one of hundreds of other topics? If so, springtime gives you a great opportunity to get publicity. Want a simple example?

I went to the Agway feed store in town yesterday asking about the best way to fight grubs in my gardens. Don't want those pesky rascals attracting moles – those never satisfied destruction machines. I was told there are two ways to do it. I could use a product called GrubEx. Or I could use a product called Milky Spore. Which one should I use? Which is more effective? Which is safe for my dogs? Which lasts longer? Which is easier to apply? I don't know.

But if you are a gardener or landscaper and you know – and you know the right way to get publicity – I can just about guarantee you'll get publicity that can drive more customers to your business and put more profits in your bank account. "Hey, wait a minute, Paul. I thought I needed some sexy, unique, dazzling story to get reporters interested."

That's one of the biggest lies perpetrated by self-interested publicity "pros". They want you to believe you need a dazzling story to get reporters' attention. Then they want to sell you their service to write the story, get the press releases out, etc. And for that, they'll only charge you $5,000 – A MONTH – with no guarantees. Here's the big "secret" to writing a great press release that'll interest reporters: Write about the things his audience members are interested in.

What are the readers of the daily newspaper interested in? Saving money on gas, getting their kids into college, deciding how to hire an honest roofer, planting tulip bulbs in their gardens…and on and on and on. Get it?

If you sit there agonizing about what unique angle you can use to get publicity, you'll never do anything. But if you simply write a press release about what you know, two things will happen. First, you'll take action. And as I've told you over and over again, nothing happens without action. 95% of success is simply doing SOMETHING. Second, you'll dramatically increase your chances of getting publicity. Afterall, how much publicity do you think you'll get if you don't send out any press releases? Don't think that what you know isn't of interest to people. If you know how to prevent those grubs from getting into my gardens, I'm interested – and so are a lot of other people, including reporters.

Learn how to recognize all the stories you have in you right this very minute. Learn the simple way to write press releases so they get reporters to call you. Then learn how to convert those interviews into more business, more customers and more profits. In my opinion, it's the most valuable skill you'll ever learn.

In a recent article I was talking about taped radio interviews and their value. I said I'd tell you a funny, embarrassing and informative story about taped interviews. Here goes.

Years ago I did a taped radio interview. I was told that the interview was going to be aired the following Saturday at 7PM.

By curious luck I had a date with a woman that Saturday. It was going to be our first date. I saw a great opportunity.

I arranged to pick her up at 6:45 PM. As we were driving, I kept an eye on the time. A minute or two before 7 PM I casually turned on the car radio to the station that was going to air my interview. I knew this was going to be a major, impressive hit with my new date.

The show started, the announcer said "And my guest today is nationally known and respected expert, Paul Hartunian".

I tuned to my date with a gloating smirk on my face. She, in turn, turned to me with a look of disgust on her face and said: "So do you think you're cool?".

End of date. End of relationship. End of the moment of glory. Oh well.

But there is major value to both the taped and live interviews you do. They become incredibly powerful marketing tools for you and your business. Be sure to make a high-quality recording of the interview. Make copies of the recording. Then be certain that every customer and prospect has access to that recording.

You can give the recording away for free. You can charge a very small shipping fee for the CD. Or you can have it digitized and post it on your website. You'll see I've done this on my website www.Hartunian.com I've had videos of a few of my television interviews digitized and put on my site.

These recordings are invaluable. Think of the major boost in credibility you'll get by being on radio or TV. Remember that one of the major benefits of being interviewed by the media is that you get instant credibility. You get the implied endorsement of the media.

When people hear you being interviewed on the radio, they instantly respect you as an authority in your field. After all, if you weren't an authority, why would you be interviewed on the station?

Make copies of all radio and TV interviews. Make copies of all of your newspaper and magazine interviews. They instantly, easily and in- expensively become some of your most potent marketing tools.

Insert copies of articles about you in your mailings. Post them in your store window or on the wall of your office. Blow them up to poster size and put them in your waiting room. Digitize copies of the articles and post them on your website.

Just because your interview is over doesn't mean the value of that interview is also over. I'm still using copies of interviews I did over 10 years ago as marketing pieces. They all have incredible power to draw in new customers and to keep old customers interested in you and what you have to offer. Publicity keeps paying dividends over and over for the rest of your life!

Well, you've probably read or heard the latest controversial stories on the news. First there's the $14,000 dessert being sold in Sri Lanka. Then there's the "study" that women don't talk more than men. The "study" claims that both men and women say the same number of words each day. Finally, there's the dating service that posted billboards saying: "Life is short, have an affair."

Each one of these got millions of dollars worth of publicity. So, if you look at each of these simply as publicity stunts, they were all extremely successful.

You may have your personal feelings about each of these stories (so do I) but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about the use of controversy as a tool to get tremendous amounts of publicity.

Let's take a look at each of these. Do you really think the restaurant in Sri Lanka cares if they sell even one of the $14,000 desserts? Of course not. They wanted the publicity. They want to be able to say that they hold the world's record for the highest priced dessert on earth. If they do sell any of the desserts, that's icing on the cake – pun intended.

How about that "study" about men and women speaking the same number of words each day, refuting the commonly held belief that women talk more than men. I've got a serious problem with that. Based on what I know about this "study", it was no study at all. It was actually the opinion of the person writing the press release. Sorry, I can't buy this one.

If you are going to create controversy based on a study or other information you are quoting, you'd darn well better be sure the information is accurate. Picking information out of the air is unethical and quite possibly illegal. I'm not having anything to do with that nonsense.

If, for example, you want to make a prediction about the future of homes sales over the next year, that's just fine. That's your prediction, your opinion. But simply making up information without any basis of fact – leave me out. And now the last one – the one about the dating service encouraging people to have affairs.

That's a very controversial stand. The interviews I saw this guy do were not soft, sweet and friendly. But the guy who owns the dating service stood his ground. Did he really believe what he was saying? I have no idea. If he did, he scored a huge touchdown for his dating service. If he simply made the comment to stir up the media, once again I'm out. I want nothing to do with that nonsense.

There are so many opportunities for you to get publicity. I don't care what your product, service, business, cause or issue is, you have incredible publicity possibilities.

If you have a very controversial stand on an issue, get out there and let the media know. Be prepared for a whole range of response from the media. But if you truly believe what you're saying, you should have no problems.

Several years ago when I was doing interviews to promote my book on dating and relationships, I sent out a press release with the headline: "Dating Expert Tells Women to Wise Up and Stop Whining"! The media went insane – especially the feminist media.

But I truly believed what I said in the release. In essence, my point was that women often complain about their miserable dating life, but they do very little to correct the problems. They typically wait for something to happen. They wait for men to call them. They wait for men to approach them. They wait for a long, long time, since little happens unless they take action.

When I did the interviews, I sounded clear, calm and well- reasoned. So, by the end of the interview every one of the reporters agreed with me and I wound up selling a ton of books.

Every single day of the year, you have publicity opportunities parade right in front of you. You can sit there and watch them pass on by. Or, you can learn the right way to get publicity and enjoy the life you've be hoping for.

I want to get a little philosophical this time. I want to tie in the philosophy with our dog rescue work, your publicity campaigns and your desire to be successful.

I'm a huge believer in the idea that things happen for a reason. Many times, though, we don't understand the reason.

For the past few months we've hit lots of bumps in our dog rescue organization. Specifically, we've taken in a lot of dogs with very significant health problems – problems that have run up enormous vet bills. For example, we currently have a dog that's going to need surgery that will be costing $3,500. Last week we adopted a dog that cost us about $2,000. These are fairly common examples.

The money is not the major issue, although it is important. The real issue to me is what these dogs have to go through with the various health problems.

When we agree to take in a dog, we don't have the luxury of being able to have the dog examined by a vet. Actually, since many of our dogs come from Southern states, we never see the dogs until they show up at our kennel.

In another article I told you that we had just taken in three 4- week-old puppies that were killer cute with wiggle-worm tails. Well, about one hour after I sent you that issue, I went into the kennel to take care of the pups and I didn't like what I saw. After doing dog rescue work for 10 years now, I've developed very sharp instincts when it comes to dogs.

I looked at one of the pups and immediately got the feeling that she had Parvo. If you're not familiar with Parvo, it's a viral disease that mainly affects puppies. The bad news is that it kills up to 80% of the pups it infects. It can also spread like wildfire.

Within minutes I had the pups on the way to the vet. Mary started disinfecting the kennel.

Sure enough, they all had Parvo.

It was the final straw for me in a long string of canine health problems, which I take very much to heart and am significantly affected by.

I lashed out at God. I have very strong religious beliefs, but enough is enough. I gave him what for. In essence, I told him to stop screwing around with my dogs. "Leave them alone. I'll take care of them. I don't need you."

The next several days were very anxious as the pups were put on life support.

Now the good news. Incredibly, all three pups survived the bout with Parvo. As soon as the disease winds itself down and they rest up, they'll be good as new.

But the breakthrough for me came when I was driving them back here from the vet. It finally dawned on me that these dogs are not being put in our care to make our lives miserable and to run up huge vet bills. They're being put in our care by God, the universe or whatever because they stand the greatest chance of surviving and thriving right here. I challenge anyone, any rescue group, any shelter, anywhere to provide better care for dogs than we do.

If those pups had stayed in the shelter they came from for just one more day, the symptoms of Parvo would have become obvious and they would have been put down immediately. The biggest nightmare for every shelter is an outbreak of Parvo. Parvo has wiped out entire populations of puppies.

So God and I made up and I spent the good part of an afternoon thinking about the whole episode. I thought back to the many times I thought I was getting the wrong end of the stick. I thought about the "disasters" that confronted me at various times in my life. I thought about the various injustices I thought I'd been the victim of.

And I thought about how every one of them turned out. Without exception, every one of those situations produced something in my favor, far outweighing the downside I was experiencing.

I also remembered one of my favorite quotes. It's from Mark Twain:

"I've had a lot of troubles in my life, most of which have never happened."

I had developed the attitude that I was entitled to get only healthy, well-adjusted dogs.'Taint necessarily so.

But that feeling of entitlement is all around us.

I often come across people who feel they are entitled to get publicity for their business simply because they sent out one press release. I actually had one person complain to me that she had sent out one press release and did not get a call from the reporter.

Mind you she wasn't saying that she sent out 50 copies of one press release to 50 reporters. She only sent one press release to one reporter. That was it.

Now that's a feeling of entitlement!

People feel they're entitled to have "an avalanche of money" pour into their bank account simply because they purchased a "guru's" information product.

Some of the blame goes to the "gurus" who have sales letters that, in my opinion, are WAY over the top.

But the vast majority of the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the people who want to be wealthy. Becoming wealthy requires work.

    Getting publicity requires work.

As I've told you before, the reporters are going to be giving you very valuable air time or space in their newspapers and magazines. They have to be sure you're the real thing. They have to be sure you know how to do the interviews. They have to be sure you have something to say.

All of that requires following a system and following the system requires work.

Some of my marketing friends are cringing right now because I'm actually telling you that you have to do work to get publicity. Well, you do.

Like anything else, you have to learn what to do, what not to do, how to do it, how to do it most efficiently. When I first put together my publicity kit, I went over it time and time again, making it as clear and simple as possible for anyone, in any business, to pick it up and put my system into action.

Over the past 20 years that my publicity kit has been on the market I've gone over it many times, refining it, streamlining it, making it as effective as I possibly can.

If you are creating information products, you must do exactly the same thing. You can't leave any details out. You must make everything crystal clear. You must be able to give your manual, or CD or DVD or whatever to any adult of normal intelligence and they should be able to follow your plan.

When you are working on your publicity campaigns, reporters will expect that you are following the plan they have grow accustomed to. If you don't, getting publicity will be very difficult.

After all, you're not entitled to it!

One of the biggest problems people have when they attempt to get publicity is getting to the point. On my publicity coaching calls, in my newsletter, in my private consultations I'm constantly stressing this. I actually cut people off if they can't get to the point in 30 seconds or less.

If right this minute someone asked you what type of business you're in and what you do for your customers, could you tell them in 30 seconds or less? If not, you're probably in trouble.

So many people think that getting publicity is as simple as sending out a press release. Sorry, Scooter, it's not that easy.

When you send out your press release, you're conveying a lot of information to the reporters.

The very first thing you convey to the reporters is NOT your story. Does that surprise you? Well, it surprises the vast majority of people.

When a reporter picks up your press release he does NOT first look to see what your story is about. The first thing he looks for is whether or not you know how to play the publicity game.

In a busy newsroom it's not unusual for a reporter to get from 100-300 press releases per day. Obviously he does not have time to contact all of these people each day. So he has to screen them as quickly and easily as possible.

One of the fastest and most effective ways of screening press releases is to simply look at them. Don't read a word of them. Just look at them.

Do they look right? Are they in the right format? If not, it's a pretty good bet that this person doesn't know how to do a good interview.

Reporters are very willing to help you promote your business if you'll give them what they want – a good story. But they aren't willing to teach you the publicity game. That's what my Million Dollar Publicity Kit is for.

So, if you write your release the correct way, the reporter gets the feeling that you may know how the publicity game works. So he gives you a call. He may be giving you a call to get more information about your story. But more importantly, he's calling you to confirm that you know how to play the publicity game.

The reporter will ask you a few questions to see if you know the right answers. One of the key questions he'll ask is about your story. He'll tell you he wants to know more about your story.

Well, he may want to know more about your story, but that's actually what the interview is for. What he really wants to know is whether or not you can get to the point in 30 seconds or less.

If you can, the reporter now has a more comfortable feeling that the time he spends with you will be well invested.

If you can't get to the point in 30 seconds or less, lots of other people can. So the reporter is likely to end his conversation with you and move on to someone who knows the rules.

A key rule of winning lots of profit-producing publicity – get to the point in 30 seconds or less.

Come to think of it, that's a pretty good rule for our entire lives, isn't it?

Article Title: Do You Know What "Magic Money" Is?

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

I want to talk about "Magic Money" in this article. Magic Money is a term I invented. It means money that appears in people's bank accounts magically even though they did no work.

Don't spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to get some of that Magic Money. It doesn't really exist. But from lots of claims you read on and off the Internet, many people apparently think it's possible.

Now this is a blog about publicity. Why would I bring up the subject of Magic Money here? Because I want to be 100% certain that you don't think, for even one brief second, that publicity can create Magic Money.

Can publicity create a fast, huge tide of interest in your product or service or business? You bet. Can publicity create a huge pile of sales for you? Sure it can. But it can't create Magic Money.

In order to get that publicity and those sales and that recognition, you have to do the work. Now I know some marketers just fainted because I mentioned the word "work".

"You're not supposed to tell people they have to work to achieve the results you're telling them about", say some marketers.

"You're supposed to give them the magic bullet they want", is a common chant amongst some marketers.

Sorry to disillusion you. In order to get publicity you have to do some work. You have to learn a reliable system. You have to put that system into action. You have to follow up on the responses you get. No magic, just a solid, proven formula that works, put into action.

I give credit to publicity for many of the things in my life – my money, my "fame", my freedom. But make no mistake about it – I had to work to get that publicity.

The same is true of my Mentoring Program. Several of the applications I received simply told me that the person wanted to join the Program to become instantly wealthy.

Needless to say, they didn't get into the program. I even put a paragraph in the letter at www.Hartunian.com/mentor that says, in big, bold letters: "If you think there is some magic system for getting wealthy that does not involve work, you're dreaming. I'm going to show you the system that's worked for me. Then you are going to have to put it into action. I DO NOT want to work with anyone who believes that wealth can be achieved without work." So, if you read this article in the hopes of finding a way to get Magic Money flowing into your bank account, this is the wrong article for you.

On the other hand, if you appreciate that learning a reliable publicity formula can be an immensely powerful tool in your marketing arsenal – if you appreciate and understand that you are the one who has to put the formula into action and do the work – and if you appreciate that nothing works 100% of the time, but when you put in 100% effort, you're going to have success, then you're exactly the type of reader I want.

I would love to get my article readers down to a mean, lean, hard-core group of people passionate about success. I want everyone who reads this article to read every post in my blog (www.PaulsPublicityBlog.com) and then take action.

There are hundreds of different whiteboards available at any time. The search for a whiteboard can thus be a difficult task. In this article we shall look at some of the considerations that you should make when buying a whiteboard. Among these considerations, size, surface type, price, and mobility are included.

No matter what type of a whiteboard you are looking for, size is often a consideration that must come up. Whiteboards for classrooms usually have a similar size but if you are looking for a whiteboard for another place such as the kitchen or a lobby, you should find a board that is going to fit in the space. Wall mounted whiteboards for classrooms usually measure 1200 mm by 900 mm or 1800 mm by 1200 mm. Whiteboard sizes vary a lot and if you do not find the size you want, you can easily order one customized according to your preferences.

Another consideration you should make when choosing whiteboards is the writing surface as well as materials used in its construction. Melamine whiteboards that are non-magnetic are usually more affordable than magnetic whiteboards made of steel. There are also porcelain whiteboards that are embedded with steel. Melamine whiteboards are also commonly sought because of their affordability. Porcelain boards are high-end boards and they may cost significantly more money than other kinds of whiteboards. The boards are very long lasting and usually have long-term warranties. If you are looking for a whiteboard that will double up as a projector screen, you should use a less reflective whiteboard than standard ones. Glass whiteboards are good for glass offices and any other places where standard whiteboards will be seen as obstructions.

Mobility is definitely a factor that people consider when they are buying whiteboards for presentation. Unlike wall mounted whiteboards, mobile whiteboards have many features that can make them suitable for purchase or otherwise. One of the features that can be a deal breaker for a mobile whiteboard is the strength of reinforcement around the board. Since the boards are to be subjected to constant movement and they might receive a few knocks here and there, they should be strong enough to withstand damage. Weight is definitely another feature that must be considered. Wall mount whiteboards usually don't affect a person's decision because they are only transported once. However, for a whiteboard that is going to be moved frequently, people should be able to move it and its support easily.

Price is an important factor when choosing a whiteboard. If you are on a budget, you will probably be more concerned by the value for money that you will get from a whiteboard. Sometimes a cheap whiteboard might serve the functions you want very well and last for a considerable duration. However, it might fail to provide you with some important features and this might be a deal breaker. In this case, you should consider how much more money you are willing to spend for the features that a whiteboard is lacking. You should remember that whiteboards often differ in price as a result of the materials used to make them and not as a result of missing features. With adequate care, all whiteboards can last quite a long time.

It's kind of a Catch 22. The better you are at your job, the bigger your family, and the more volunteer groups you belong to, the more people expect your help. And sometimes they don't really ask. They assume you will help them, and are a little hurt or offended when you don't.

If you rely a lot on other people's opinions, then it is hard to turn people down, because you think you need their approval. Or if you care deeply about the people, you may truly want to always be there for them, to lend your support.

But the truth is, you cannot be there for everybody. And you don't need to deal with their stress on top of your own.

So you may find yourself making excuses. Gosh, you would really love to, but you are already booked, or you have a conflict, or you have to wash your hair. Whatever you think they will accept without hurting their feelings. But chances are that after you make excuses, you feel the stress of guilt, not only from turning them down, but also for the little white lie you told to get out of doing whatever it was.

Back in 1969, composer and poet Mason Williams wrote, "Someday you'll learn that 'I don't want to' is the world's greatest reason." At first glance that might seem a little harsh. But as I have finally gotten to "someday," I understand how right he was.

Of course, you may phrase what you want and don't want a little differently. But when you are dealing with stress, just telling the truth can lift a lot of weight off your shoulders. And being consistently honest saves you from built up resentment that can blow when you least expect it.

Let's say you have a deadline at work, your daughter just said she needs a costume for a school play, and someone calls asking you to bake a pie for a bake sale. If you are stressed you might blurt out, "I made a pie once and I don't need to do it again." I did, and it wasn't pretty.

Instead, you could hire someone else to make the costume, and calmly explain that pies are just not your thing, but you will be glad to help with some future non-baking project.

Stop Trying to Have Someone Else's Idea of Fun.

I'm sure you've heard it. "You've got to come, it'll be fun." And so you go to some party or event, only to be totally miserable, angry at yourself for coming, and ashamed to exit. By the time you leave, your stress level is off the charts.

Instead, value your own opinion. Admit when you don't enjoy certain activities, and find time with friends or family doing things you all enjoy.

If your partner or friend won't go somewhere without you, the occasional bout of boredom won't kill you. If you have made a habit of honesty about trivial things, than you won't feel so stressed, and you can be generous with your time when it really matters to those you love.

Do you have fears that keep you paralyzed with stress and anxiety? There are certainly enough things in modern life for us to be genuinely afraid of, and a little fear is not always a bad thing. It keeps us from going down dark alleys at night, or into grizzly bear dens.

What is it about being human that causes us to create even more to be afraid of than is actually there? What takes us from being cautious and alert to danger, to frozen like a deer in the headlights over some disaster that may never happen? I wish I knew.

While the world may still be a dangerous place sometimes, our imagined fears can cause us more stress than any true dangers. The adrenaline triggered by real dangers tells us to grab the kids and head for the tornado shelter, find a life jacket, or slam on the brakes.

When we get an adrenaline rush from stress and imagined dangers, we have nowhere to run to, no defensive action we can take. But you can deal with the stress of imaginary dangers by heading it off before it starts.

Acknowledge your brain's infinite ability to be wrong. Our brains seem to be hardwired to create pictures or patterns where nothing really exists. It is why we see faces in clouds, or why as children we may have stared half the night at some scary shadow that turned out to be nothing in the morning.

On the up side, this ability has lead to everything from fairy tales to science fiction. On the down side, it makes us worry that every headache could be a brain tumor; every economic setback is one step away from living on the street.

By remembering that there really were no monsters in the closet, we can train ourselves to see the illusions we create for what they really are, and we can relax. No need to deal with stress from something that isn't there.

Use your fears to spur you into action. If you just can't seem to turn away from some of your worries, turn them into an action plan. If you are worried you'll outlive your money, find a way to save more. If you are tend to worry about every new health crisis that comes up in the news, take preventative steps to eat right, exercise, and live a healthy lifestyle.

Just as importantly, know that you take these steps not out of fear, but because you are strong and proactive. Applaud yourself for planning ahead. You can't protect yourself or your family from everything, but you can give yourself credit for doing what you can.

Focus on the good things in your life, and be grateful. None of us knows what tomorrow holds. Uncertainty is a basic part of existence. But if you remember every day to relish each moment you have, rather than waste it being stressed about the future, you will be stronger and more ready to face whatever the future really does hold. Monsters and all.

Perhaps you've seen the poster. It's the Milky Way, in all its glory, with an arrow pointing to the middle that says, "You Are Here." Suddenly, all our worries and anxieties seem pretty small. And this is just one galaxy.

If the picture makes you feel insignificant, here's the good part. So is everyone else. There are no winners and losers in the vastness of space. There is no one better or prettier or more successful than you. We're all actually pretty darn lucky to just be here at all, with our fantastic ability to see and understand.

When you are trying to beat depression, other people's successes may not make you jealous so much as they make you feel you've missed some sort of target. That you don't quite measure up.

But from the perspective of the universe, what is there to measure up to? From the distance of light years, what do our achievements mean? Maybe our imagined failures lose their importance compared to the magnitude of this enormous scheme of galaxies and empty space.

I'm not a gambler, so I know nothing about betting on the odds. But I do know that the odds of being alive on one small planet in this immeasurable expanse of the cosmos are a gazillion to one. Just being alive means we've won against odds that are truly astronomical.

Try Meditating on the Universe Itself

Contemplating the immensity of the universe can be a soothing as a form of meditation. Almost ageless and endless, the universe runs in perfect harmony, and is here for us all to see. If we can allow ourselves to feel a part of that harmony, we can release our depression into the vastness. If we accept that our part is no greater or smaller than anyone else's, we can simply be.

All the great traditions have told us that what is important is not about storing up treasures on earth. The cosmos is not keeping score about how much we achieve. But we can still follow its example of harmony, by living in harmony in the time we have.

If you are depressed from feelings of failure, think what you achieve when you show love or kindness. If you are stressed from too much to do, think how much your actions may have meant to someone who needed you.

Let your self-criticism go. The universe is not counting on you to hold up the stars. If there is anything you want to ask forgiveness for, ask and then release it. Imagine all your mistakes simply being absorbed into the limitless beyond.

Think about those you love, and how precious it is to have them in your life. Think about how lucky you all are to be in this adventure together, and a part of this grand design.

Thinking about the universe can help us realize what a gift it is to simply be here. It might also help you beat depression, if you can just accept the gift and be glad to be alive.

While most of us were firing up the barbeques or lazing around by the pool this Labor Day weekend, 64-year old Diana Nyad was in the water, but she wasn't there for recreation. She was on a mission to fulfill her lifelong dream of swimming the 103-mile passage from Cuba to Florida. Ms. Nyad had tried and failed four times before. After her second attempt in 2011, she almost gave up, referring to her dream as just a fairy tale. When she finally emerged from the water victoriously this past weekend, she had changed her tune. "I have three messages," she said. "One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you are never too old to chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it takes a team."

These are not just words for fellow swimmers to swim by; these are words for us all to live by, especially those of us who are on the journey of personal growth, whether it's to beat depression or simply learn how to deal with stress effectively. Take a minute to really ponder Nyad's messages with me.

    Never, Ever Give Up

When life gets hard or when you wake up one day in a circumstance you'd never imagined yourself in, it's easy to feel like giving up. Maybe you tell yourself you'll never be happy or you'll never make a difference in this life. Maybe you resign yourself to just go through the motions of putting one foot in front of the other and give up on your passions and dreams. Although this may seem like an easy out, it's actually the worst thing you can do for yourself and your mood. Diana Nyad decided to return to swimming at the age of 60 after being out of the water for three decades. In a Ted talk in 2012, she told the audience why she returned—to feel the thrill of passion and commitment to a goal. When you find yourself stuck in rut, trying desperately to beat depression back, remember Diana's words, "Never, ever give up."

You Are Never Too Old to Chase Your Dreams

As we get older, we sometimes find ourselves looking back on the past as "the good old days." Even at 30, it can be easy to feel like you're past your prime. Maybe when you look back, you see only failures and missed opportunities. No wonder you feel so down! You can pick yourself up though; beat depression by getting back in the game. The game itself doesn't matter; what matters is that you feel alive again!

It Looks Like a Solitary Sport, But It Takes a Team

Like swimming, life itself may feel like a solitary sport sometimes. You may think you're the only one still struggling with the question of how to deal with stress. Through the dark lens of depression, everyone else's life can seem so much rosier than our own. Don't let this distorted view keep you from reaching out to others. As the Dalai Lama says, "We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection."

Stress and depression can make you feel as if life is just too much. If this is the sickness, though, passion is the antidote. Find something you're passionate about (it doesn't have to be swimming with sharks!), make a commitment, and then never give up!

Have you noticed that the world seems to be more chaotic than ever? Just turn on the TV or open a web browser and see how quickly you're bombarded with negativity. Violence, hunger, poverty, terrorism. These are just some of the global issues we're compelled to ponder on a daily—sometimes hourly—basis. How is it possible to maintain any semblance of peace in a world that seems to have lost its way?

Most people deal with the turmoil in the world by dwelling on it. We read up on the latest news, talk it through with others, and worry over what will happen next or whether the tragedy will affect our community or our loved ones. While these may be natural responses, they tend to have a negative effect on our mental and emotional health. We may begin to feel anxiety or experience a period of depression. These negative reactions spawn from fear and helplessness. We fear the future, yet we feel completely helpless to change it.

The key to maintaining peace during times of chaos (and in turn, learn how to treat anxiety and depression) is to turn the fear into love and the helplessness into empowerment. Obviously, one cannot love violence or poverty, but we can love the present moment and remind ourselves that the universe works in mysterious ways. We may not understand why things have to happen the way they do, but we can accept that everything is as it should be. In doing so, we can stop resisting the things that we cannot change, which is a powerful way to beat depression. You see, when you're struggling against things that you have no control over, you end up feeling exhausted and defeated. When you accept these things, however, you free up your resources to focus on those things that you can control.

You may be wondering what these things are that you have control over. No one can singlehandedly end world hunger or put a stop to crime once and for all. There are things that we can do, however, that do put a ripple into the pond of existence. The Dalai Lama once said, "We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves." Attaining inner peace isn't just a personal pursuit; it's one that affects everyone. To illustrate, think of how your friends and family would be impacted if you were truly at peace. What arguments might you avoid? How much more joy would you enjoy together? Now, think of the people you come into contact with on a daily basis—coworkers, acquaintances, even complete strangers. How will the positive energy you spread as a result of your total peace and contentment affect their lives? What if everyone committed themselves to the journey towards self-acceptance? Could it change the world? Absolutely!

As you continue to practice your personal development, rest in the assurance that you're not only changing you. It's not just about learning how to treat your anxiety. It's not simply about discovering how to beat depression. It really is about making a positive contribution to the world and changing it one heart at a time.

If you've ever had an anxiety attack, then you know what a scary experience it can be. You may feel as if you're going to lose control or in extreme circumstances, you may fear that you won't survive the experience. Either way, it's no fun. Unfortunately, if you've had one anxiety attack, it's likely you'll have another one. Be prepared by learning the positive self-talk necessary to get you through the experience. Here are a few things you can tell yourself to reduce your anxiety in the moment.

    ■ You're not alone.

Anxiety attacks can make you feel like you're going crazy. You may think that you're the only person in the world who has ever felt such extreme levels of stress. Don't tell yourself this lie. We live in a stressful and chaotic world. Approximately 19 million people in the United States alone suffer from some type of anxiety disorder. Some of the most successful people have struggled to learn how to treat anxiety effectively. Once the attack subsides, you may consider finding a support group in your community or online. Just knowing that other people have experienced what you're going through can be a tremendous help. It can also help you beat depression that could result from feelings of loneliness and isolation.

    ■ This too shall pass.

In addition to deep breathing, perhaps the most important thing you can do during an anxiety attack is to remind yourself that the uncomfortable feeling will pass. Your stress can be so intense during an attack that you can see your way past it. Reminding yourself that there are more peaceful moments ahead will help you learn how to deal with stress resulting from anxiety attacks. Make this a mantra, and repeat it over and over again until the anxiety passes.

    ■ Sometimes, anxiety is just anxiety.

An anxiety attack definitely feels like a warning that something is very wrong. It can get your head spinning in a million directions in an attempt to figure out what the crisis is. If you don't know what brought on the attack, accept the possibility that the anxiety is simply anxiety. No more and no less. Overthinking the situation won't help, and in fact, it will likely make the situation worse.

It's no secret that Grand Canyon helicopter tours are popular. What folks don't know is how often these flights sell out. If you have your heart set on taking one of these tours, my advice is to most definitely book them ahead of time.

    RSVP

My rule of thumb is to RSVP helicopter tours at least a week in advance, especially if you are departing from Las Vegas, NV. Same goes for South Rim departures except in certain instances you can get away with 72 hours advance notice.

There are a number of reasons why helicopter tours sell out. The number one reason is space. Helicopters can only hold up to 6 passengers including the pilot. This really comes into play when you are booking a group of four or more people. If you're group is larger than this, you'll split between helicopters.

If you are unable to get a helicopter booking, I suggest you try to get an airplane tour. Indeed, airplanes are not as exciting as helicopters, but they do get you to the canyon in comfort and style. Further, there are a number of really great side trips you can add to an airplane package.

    Departure Points

Helicopter tours depart from two places: Las Vegas and Tusayan, AZ, the gateway to the South Rim. Vegas travelers will fly to the West Rim; if you want to do the South Rim, you'll have to take an airplane over first and then transfers to a heli. Tusayan visitors will go over the South Rim. There are no connecting flights between the rims.

If you are departing from Las Vegas, you can choose between aerial and landing trips. Air-only flights are your cheapest option and let you go over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon West. I for one, however, prefer the landing packages. My favorite is the one that lands at the bottom for a Champagne picnic. Another is one that goes to the base and includes a boat ride down the Colorado River.

Please note that the West Rim is the only place in the National Park where you can fly to the bottom (such trips are banned at the South Rim by the National Park Service and the Federal Aviation Administration).

    South Rim

Tusayan visitors get to pick between 30-minute and 50-minute flights. The shorter one goes from the South Rim to the North Rim and back. En route, you'll fly through the amazing Dragoon Corridor, which is the widest and deepest section of the canyon! The longer flight does the same thing while also including all of the Park up to the eastern boundary. By the time you step off the aircraft, you'll have seen up to 75 percent of the National Park.

In addition to booking ahead of time, I also recommend that you buy your tickets on the Internet. Not only is it more convenient but it's cheaper. That said, you need to know where to look. Of course, each of us only has so much time in a day to shop, which is why I recommend limiting your search to 3 sources and going with the one that bests meets your needs. That way you don't go bonkers trying to save a nickel here and a dime there.

    Conclusion

I can't stress enough how important it is to book your helicopter tour in advance. Play it safe and try to do it a week ahead of time. If in a pinch, try to keep it within 72 hours (just know that you're pushing it). If you are departing from Vegas, I strongly recommend considering a landing package. If you are taking off from Tusayan, I'm a firm believer in the 50-minute tour. With all that said, I hope you get airborne over the canyon. It's one heck of an adventure!

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Airbus New twin-engine A350-900 XWB prototype, dubbed the MSN1 (manufacturers serial number) which made its maiden flight on June 14 then its Paris Air Show debut a few days later, logged 92 hours in its first month of flight testing during which the flight envelope was opened and key systems tests were successfully performed.

The test crews-both in the air and on the ground –are reported to be satisfied with the aircraft performance to date. The A350 XWB flight test campaign will total around 2500 flight hours with a fleet of five development aircraft.

During the first four weeks of the flight test campaign, ten Airbus experimental test pilots flew MSN1 and collectively put the aircraft through its paces to get to know its handling qualities and behavior.

This early phase of test flights has resulted in the clearance of the entire flight envelope and initial testing of all key systems. These includes: engines, electrics, ram air turbine (RAT) ,landing gear and braking, fuel and cabin pressurization, as well as a preliminary assessment of the autopilot and auto-land functions.

The A350 MSN1 then underwent routine maintenance and upgrades of its flight test installation to ready it for the second phase of the flight test campaign which was due to start early this month, while the design office spent the on-ground time analyzing the results of the initial flight tests.

The first A350 XWB development aircraft (MSN1) is fitted with heavy test instrumentation and will be used for handling qualities evaluation, the natural icing campaign, systems and power plant testing.

The second aircraft (MSN3) will also be equipped with heavy flight test instrumentation and will be used for performance measurement, high altitude, hot and cold weather testing, as well as systems and power plant tests.

The third and fifth aircraft (MSN2 and MSN5) will be equipped with a cabin and carry out the cabin and cabin systems tests, including the early long flights and route-proving.

The Fourth aircraft to fly (MSN4) will have a light flight test installation and will be focused on external noise tests, lightning tests and pilot training for first customer and maintenance teams.

According to the current programme, the second aircraft to fly will be MSN3 which is due to make its maiden flight early in October to be followed by MSN2 which will fly for the first time towards the end of January 2014. MSN4 will follow about a month later towards the end of February and the last test aircraft will get airborne in mid –April. All certification test flying should be complete by the last week in July next year with entry into service planned for early August.

But although the type still faces tough times ahead, it has already undergone extensive testing of its many systems. For example, before the maiden flight of MSN1 ,the first non-flying static airframe had already "flown" almost a full "excepected life time" and been subjected to more "in-flight" turbulence, heavy landings and simulated systems failures and general pounding and bashing than any of its siblings are ever likely to encounter in their lifetimes.

So it was little wonder that the flight test crew of MSN1 was totally confident that the first flight of the A350 XWB-900XWB would go off without a hitch-and they spent more than four hours in the air proving their point.

It is also obvious that the executives of the 34 airlines around the world, who, by the time of writing, had placed 678 confirmed orders for the type, felt the same way.

Next A350 model in the family to fly will be the A350-1000 in mid-2016, a longer version carrying more passengers which will be followed later by the smaller, but longer range A350-800.

    The Route So Far

By May last year, the fuselage of the aircraft destined to make the first flight, had finished assembly and was rolled out of the final assembly line on its own wheels to be moved to what is called Station 40 to be mated to its wings, tailplane and engines and for further installation of the many other systems which still had to be installed.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes at the time, the static test aircraft in its massive test rig was well into the pounding it was to receive to prove its structural integrity, and the flying control systems, undercarriage et al were undergoing almost nonstop testing in what is called the "Iron Bird" –a complete test rig of the entire layout, but sans the aircraft structure itself.

Then, during the last quarter of 2012, the nose section had its power switched on prior to its marriage to the main fuselage.

Meanwhile, the wing assembly was undergoing its first testing prior to mating with the fuselage which occurred during the first quarter of this year followed by the "power on" in the complete aircraft and the full ground testing which was completed by the end of May-just a fortnight prior to the first flight. Immediately after the ground testing was completed, a start was made on the first flight campaign together with the first engine starts.

The load calibration was made, ground vibration tests were completed and the electro-magnetic hazard testing was finished, which was followed by some slow and then high-speed taxiing tests.

Then came June 14 and the moment when, thanks to complex inter-connecting of TV networks and social media around the world, millions of people were able to share the moments when Airbus A350-900XWB ,MSN1 left the ground for the first time and disappeared into an almost cloudless sky to return to its Toulouse home airport about four hours later to a tumultuous welcome from the crowd of onlookers, workers, engineers, company official ,VIPs ,reporters, photographers and, you name them ,they were there to watch the first landing.

Today, however, the takeoffs and landings of this new aircraft go almost unnoticed.

Euro copter Has successfully demonstrated new landing procedures relying on augmented satellite guidance that can be tailored to more completely comply with the local environmental requirements.

These new landing procedures were validated with a twin-engine Euro copter EC155 during flight tests performed as part of the company's participation in the Green Rotorcraft Integrated Technology Demonstrator Program me-which is part of Europe's Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative.

Euro copters validation flights demonstrated significant reductions in the helicopters perceived sound footprint-consistent with predictions. The company also confirmed that such automated low-noise approaches could be tailored to local environmental requirements, thereby optimizing Euro copter helicopter operations for even the most sensitive environments.

The flight testing involved the use of optimized noise abatement flight paths compatible with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations. During the EC155s landing approaches, vertical guidance was provided by EGNOS, the European satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) ,with the helicopters flight management system (FMS) coupled to the automatic flight control system (AFCS).This enabled the new approach profiles to be flown accurately, minimizing the pilot workload with an automatic monitoring of speed profiles and ascent/ descent rates.

"Improving the neighbor-friendly aspects of rotor craft continues to be a priority for us, and these new tests underscore how advanced flight guidance systems can be brought together with the latest navigation technologies to reduce perceived sound," said Yves Favennec, Vice-President of Research at Euro copter.

The Green Rotorcraft Integrated Technology Demonstrator Program me that supported Euro copters EC155 flight evaluations is part of the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative, which is Europe's most ambitious aeronautical research programme ever. Clean Sky's goal is to develop breakthrough technologies that significantly increase environmental performance of the air transport sector, resulting in quieter and more fuel efficient aircraft and rotor craft.

Nearly 460 companies from 36 nations took part in the recent International Defense and Maritime Salon (IMDS) exhibition in Saint-Peters burg, Russia, including 36 ships and other craft which were berthed or anchored at the nearby waterfront.

The aviation part of the show included in-flight demonstrations by three Russian Air Force aerobatic teams. In addition, Russian Helicopters had two of its aircraft in the static display area for the first time, namely the ka-27PS SAR (used by the Russian Navy) and Ka-52 Alligator gunship of the Russian Air Force.

The co-axis Kamov helicopter family is viewed as an ideal design for the ship-borne machines, with the result that many Ka-27/31 helicopters have been chosen by a number of navies outside Russia among them those of India and Peoples Republic of China.

The Ka-52 had earlier made its international debut flying at the Paris Air Show before returning to Saint-Peters burg .The Maritime version, dubbed the Ka-52k,is to become a striking feature of the two Mistral –type LHDs-the Vladivostok and the Sevastopol-to be delivered to the Russian Navy by DCNS,of France ,in 2014-2015.

The Ka-52k is going to be protected by a tough anti-corrosion coating and will be equipped with folding rotor blades and wings, as well as a number of systems adapted for naval use.

The type is reported by Rosooboron-export, the Russian arms export state agency, to have already attracted a considerable amount of interest from a number of countries seeking to develop their naval power.
