Like many patients who have received a spinal stenosis diagnosis, you're probably wondering, "What comes next?" And, like many patients, you may be frustrated by the answer: It depends. What comes next can vary based on your overall level of health, the severity of your symptoms, what's causing the constriction of your spinal canal, and many other factors. While you may desperately want your physician to provide a clear-cut timetable for your recovery, it's simply not possible. But don't get too frustrated – take comfort in knowing that most patients are able to relieve their symptoms through the use of conservative, nonsurgical treatments, and very few will require surgery.
What is Spinal Stenosis, Anyway?
Before you can fully understand how the various spinal stenosis treatments work, you should know a little about the condition itself. Spinal stenosis occurs when the spinal canal (the passage through which the spinal cord traverses) becomes constricted, resulting in the compression of a spinal nerve, nerve root, or even the spinal cord itself.
The condition has many different causes, including traumatic injury, congenital defect, and the presence of tumors. The most common cause of spinal stenosis, though, is nothing more nefarious than the natural aging process. As an individual grows older, the constant wear and tear on the neck and back can begin to take its toll, and the spinal components can begin to break down. The facet joints can become arthritic, the intervertebral discs can herniate or bulge, and the ligaments can harden, all of which can cause a narrowing of the spinal canal.
What are Some of the Nonsurgical Methods Used to Treat the Condition?
The majority of patients who receive a spinal stenosis diagnosis are advised to take over-the-counter, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs – including ibuprofen and naproxen – work by interfering with the body's production of the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, which play an important role in the body's inflammatory response. In addition to reducing inflammation, NSAIDs can be used to quell mild to moderate pain. Some patients, such as those who suffer from cardiovascular or gastrointestinal conditions, may be unable to take NSAIDs. As an alternative, these patients may be advised to take an over-the-counter analgesic such as acetaminophen.
Many patients also benefit from working with a physical therapist. During physical therapy sessions, patients perform exercises that strengthen and stretch specific muscles in the neck and back. The primary goal of these exercises is to give the spine added support and/or relieve muscle tension, thereby reducing neural compression. Physical therapy can entail many other treatment methods, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), massage therapy, and ultrasound therapy, to name a few.
If appropriate, a physician may advise a patient who has received a spinal stenosis diagnosis to make certain lifestyle changes. For instance, overweight patients can significantly improve their spinal health by losing weight. Likewise, those who lead sedentary lifestyles can benefit from becoming more physically active, and patients who use tobacco products or abuse alcohol can benefit from reversing these unhealthy behaviors.
What About Surgery?
Few patients who receive a spinal stenosis diagnosis will be advised to undergo surgery. If your physician recommends an operation to decompress a neural structure in your spine, make sure you know about the potential risks before consenting. You may also want to receive a second or third opinion to ensure that surgery truly is your best treatment option.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
National security is a matter of understanding events in order to build policies and capabilities to deal with current and future security threats. The cliché "learn from history" is helpful only when the historic frame of reference is perceived accurately in substance and timing. The general perception of history is that it unfolds in eras which give the sense that applicable historic lessons are in the more distant past. However, within the last century, the trend of history has been punctuated by singular paradigm-changing events: examples are the German invasion of Poland in September 1939; the use of atomic weapons in 1945; the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991; and the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Twin Towers. The most recent of these historical singular events has been occurring in the Middle East with a series of revolutions against various long-standing governments in multiple countries; these attacks on standing governments have been euphemistically melded into a regional event called the 'Arab Spring.' This current history is signaling the need to shift how the United States approaches online terrorism studies and security and intelligence studies.
The Arab Spring is a climactic combination of events signaling another change in the course of history; it is not so much a shift toward democracy as a tectonic geostrategic shattering of the relative stability of the old autocratic order and being currently replaced by chaotic uncertainty. Egypt, Libya, and Syria are prime examples of the uncertainty principle. Prior to the Arab Spring, security and intelligence studies reflected decades of relative continuity of policies and results in Egypt, Libya, and Syria. Mubarak suppressed the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Gaddafi did not allow al Qaeda to grow to a significant force in Libya. The Assad family suppressed Sunni extremists while keeping the Shiite client Hezbollah within acceptable bounds. Now these regimes have been either eradicated or are at the verge of extinction. Experts argue the region is devolving into fragmented areas of religious influence that pit extremists against old-line clans; states like Iran seek to forge a Shiite arc of influence to oppose a Sunni arc of influence led by fundamentalist Wahhabi Saudi Arabia. Al Qaeda and al Qaeda allies are active in virtually every Arab country, reflecting a phoenix-like rise to pose new threats to the region and the West. All of the existing security and intelligence studies and online terrorism studies must be rethought to account for the dynamic new conditions and the evolving uncertainties. A daunting specter haunts the US, Israel and the West that Islamic terror groups such as the Iranian client Hezbollah or the al Qaeda pledge Jabhat al-Nusra will acquire advanced chemical weapons or chemical agents during the Syrian War.
The United States intervened in Iraq and Afghanistan in the first decade of this millennium; the US now is essentially out of Iraq and preparing to leave Afghanistan. Iraq is slipping back into sectarian conflict; the Afghani national prospects are highly problematic. There are calls to intervene in Syria where 15 or more different factions strive for ascendancy and power. The recent lessons of US intervention suggest that enduring success cannot be achieved unless the US implements new policies. The imperative for the US is to "go back to the drawing board" with objective, intensive, and new online terrorism studies and security and intelligence studies. Think tanks, war colleges, the Intelligence Community, and security education through private online schools all must partner to provide the required new educational and analytic foundation to deal with the threats that are emerging in this emerging new epoch of history in the Middle East.

We live in exciting times. The long-term effects of the Arab Spring are not well known. There is a civil war raging in Syria; Africa is becoming a hotbed of terrorism; North Korea is acting ever more belligerent, and China is rising to challenge United States (US) hegemony in the Pacific.
The US is still involved in the war in Afghanistan, and as the Boston Marathon bombing showed, there is the ever-persistent threat of terrorism on the US mainland.
Though the US is still the sole remaining superpower, there are many threats to its national security, both at home and abroad. Since the terror attacks of 9/11, there have been over 50 terror attacks foiled by the US intelligence community. There is a need for the nation to remain ever vigilant and to have a cadre of professionals within the strategic security industry as an integral component of maintaining the nation's readiness to deter, prevent, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks.
There are threats not only to US, government interests worldwide, but to US corporate executives as well. US corporations are often 'softer' targets than US government entities, and nefarious groups overseas, such as Somali pirates operating around the Horn of Africa, and South American gangs, favor kidnapping Americans. Subsequently, there is a market demand for strategic security industry professionals.
The strategic security industry encompasses the areas of intelligence, counterterrorism, and executive protection. There are several exciting opportunities within the industry, in both government and corporate civilian sectors. Within the government sector, these individuals often serve as intelligence analysts or counterterrorism analysts in an agency within the Intelligence Community (IC), or as executive protection personnel in agencies such as the US Secret Service or the US State Department's Diplomatic Security Service. There are also opportunities available in the law enforcement community that utilize strategic security industry professionals as intelligence analysts analyzing trends in crime patterns and methods to assist with the allocation of law enforcement resources, and as protection professionals protecting dignitaries at major public events.
Within the civilian sector, there are opportunities available to such personnel as corporate security officers responsible for analyzing threats and making appropriate recommendations to corporate management for measures needed to take to mitigate the potential or actual threat. There are also opportunities available in the civilian sector for individuals who are executive protection professionals that are used by companies and corporations to serve not only corporate executives traveling abroad, but also celebrities, and members of royal households.
The most effective method for one to enter this exciting industry is to have a record documenting completion of strategic security courses, such as courses in intelligence, counterterrorism, and executive protection. Several colleges and universities offer strategic security courses, both online and in a traditional classroom setting. However, few colleges specialize in Strategic Security, whose curriculum of strategic security courses culminates in a Strategic Security degree. Fewer still, are nationally accredited online colleges and universities that specialize in Strategic Security and offer strategic security courses and degrees entirely online.

Participating in a unique auction gives the bidders a chance win a lot of prizes as well as an opportunity to get goods at a lower price. It is easy to participate in this unique auction, the first thing that one should do is to register at winnybids. The registration process is very simple; all that one has to do is to provide personal details. Without paying any single cent, one becomes a member and participant of one of the bids which allow customer to get the best as well as win gift cards, they also have a chance to win ipad mini and other. After registering the member is called upon to purchase bid, one can choose from the available goods, the one that interest the customer. Start bidding, if at the end of the bidding period, your price is the lowest you get to win. It is such a simple process.
The unique auction is different from the traditional bids at penny auction, here the participants are not charged to bid. All that one has to do is place his or her bids, watch as the other customers place theirs too and get a chance to win if the bid is the lowest. Penny auction involves all the bidders paying some fee to participate, at winnybids, it is quite different. In some of the bidding auctions, customers get shocked to learn that they are bidding against machines or robots. It is hard to win especially when one is facing stiff competition from programmed machines. Every bidder out there would like to participate in a unique auction where humans call the shots. When an auction is given a human touch, customers have confidence that nothing will be manipulated. They have an equal chance to win laptops and other products which are presented in the site.
Winnybids has been described as a site which offers unique products as well as a chance for the bidders to win some of the lucrative prices in the market. One can imagine a situation where goods can be bought at a price which is far below what is being offered in the market, if that is not all, the bidder gets a chance to win ipad mini and other hosts of valuable prizes such as gift cards. These are some of the best deals in the market, getting a chance to buy a product at a price where no other dealer can afford to dispose. One might get the idea that the best deals which our bidders get out of this process are due to inferiority of the goods on offer. We would like to assure our customers that the goods on offer are of high quality. They are the same products that one can get direct from the manufacturer. One will be surprised to find that at times the bids can be almost equal to what can be obtained at the factory. It is high time you got the best deals as well as a chance to win laptop and other kinds of prizes which are not available anywhere else.

Oklahoma City has plenty for visitors to enjoy, including the opportunity to experience the thriving cowboy culture, to learn more about the Plains Indians, and to watch a professional NBA team featuring one of the league's brightest stars. Just as with any other destination, if you're heading to OKC for business or pleasure, it's essential to understand and prepare for the weather you may need to deal with during your trip. Educating yourself now on OKC weather can help make your trip a safer, more enjoyable experience.
First, think about the overall climate. Due to the location of the city, temperatures can exceed 100 degrees in the summer, a level of heat which not only makes outdoor activities uncomfortable but also can make them downright dangerous. If you want or need to go outside during these sweltering summer days, be sure to take precautions before and during your activities. Start by drinking plenty of water and being properly hydrated before you ever head outdoors. Carefully plan your clothing choices, and opt for thin, light-colored clothing rather than heavy, dark clothing to help keep your skin cooler throughout the day. And, if you think you will be heading out into the sunlight for any period of time, you should apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays. Remember that you should put on a layer of sunscreen before you leave and continue to apply it regularly for as long as you're out in the sun.
In addition to thinking about the heat, you should also do your best to prepare for another staple of springs and summer in Oklahoma – tornados. If you've lived in Tornado Alley, you're probably familiar with the huge storms that can rumble across the Plains during this time of year, and you likely remember the safety preparations you were taught in case of a tornado. If you're from a region that doesn't experience tornados or gets the infrequent, weak twister, it's time to commit some tips to memory on how to remain safe during a tornado. If you receive word that there is a tornado in your area and you're in a building, try to head for a room in the center of the edifice that has no windows, such as a bathroom, or even a stairwell. Also, try to get as close to ground level as possible. Once in place, crouch and cover yourself with a blanket or other cushioning material that will protect you against shards of glass and other debris that may be blown around during the tornado. If you have the misfortune of being in a car or outdoors when you see a tornado, you can try to lie in the floorboards of the car, with a coat or blanket over your head. If you can do so safely, find a ditch or other location that is lower than the surrounding area and lie down in it, covering your hands with your head. Another option for those in a vehicle is to drive out of the path of a tornado in right angles, so long as the twister is far enough away and the traffic is light. Despite what you may have seen in movies or videos, you should not take shelter under a bridge or overpass because it provides little protection in the face of flying debris.
By keeping these tips in mind, you can enjoy your trip to Oklahoma City while knowing that you're prepared to handle the weather. If you'd like more advice on weather safety, you can turn to turn to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website.

It doesn't matter if you're stopping over in Philadelphia while you're a business trip, or you're staying in the city for a vacation, you'll need to grab a bite to eat at some point. Instead of stopping at a national chain and eating food that you can find anywhere in the nation, why not try some true Philly favorites?
That's how the city's famed cheesesteak got its start. Although the question who served the first cheesesteak is still up for debate, the general recipe involves placing grilled beef slices, grilled peppers and onions, and melted cheese on Italian bread. Philadelphians have a long-standing love of cheese sauce, so don't be surprised if you order up a cheesesteak to find that it was made with Cheez Whiz, the city's beloved condiment.
Italian bread also plays an important role in the hoagie, Philadelphia's famous mixed sandwich. In fact, at the heart of most quintessentially Philadelphian food is the city's long tradition of welcoming immigrants into the community. These immigrants brought with them the recipes of their motherlands, and, over the years, these recipes have been adapted to suit American taste buds. That's why, although the contents of a hoagie vary from establishment to establishment, they are traditionally served between two pieces of Italian bread or on Italian buns. No matter what combination of sliced meats and cheeses you end up with, hoagies make an excellent choice for lunch.
Italian immigrants aren't the only ones who had an impact on the local cuisine. All throughout the city, you can find warm, soft pretzels that show the influence of the Pennsylvania Dutch on Philadelphian taste buds. Pennsylvania Dutch is actually a misnomer for groups of German immigrants who settled in the area ("Dutch" is a corruption of the word "Deutsch"). No matter who brought them to American shores, you'll likely find soft pretzels to be a delightful snack. Of course, hot pretzels are readily available from chain stores in malls and other locations across the nation, but why not try them from a mom and pop store in a city where they were first introduced to an American audience?
Whether you're traveling with kids, adults, or both, you might want to treat your companions to a sweet produced by TastyKake, a company that is perhaps Philadelphia's most well-known producer of pastries and other treats. The sweets are beloved to many Philadelphians and others living the area, but they can be difficult to find outside the region, so your trip might be the perfect time to indulge in one of the snacks.
Like any other major city, Philadelphia also offers a wealth of higher-end dining options to cater to more sophisticated tastes. That said, try not to stick your nose up at the more commonplace items listed here. They are not only easier on the wallet, but they're also some of Philly's iconic foods. So, if you're looking to say you've really experienced Philadelphia, it's worth the time to drop in and enjoy a treat from one of the local vendors.

Scottsdale experiences about 330 days of sunshine a year, and it's surrounded by the picturesque Sonoran Desert. With both of those facts in mind, it probably doesn't come as a surprise that many visitors choose to take hikes through the desert during their stays. If you're planning to visit Scottsdale, and you're thinking about exploring the surrounding desert, there are a few helpful guidelines to remember to make your expedition safe and enjoyable.
Start with carefully planning your route. Not only should you know exactly where you're headed, but you should understand the difficulty of the path you'd like to take. Honestly assess your current fitness level before you set out to avoid straining yourself in an unfamiliar and often unforgiving environment. Once you have chosen a route, be sure to carry a trail map with you to help keep your bearings straight and to judge the pace at which you're hiking. Also, let someone know where you're headed as well as what time you plan to return so they can alert the authorities if you're gone longer than expected.
You should also be sure to pack appropriate clothing to wear during your trip. Although the sweltering summer heat might prompt you to look for T-shirts and shorts to wear on your hike, consider donning light-colored pants and long-sleeved shirts instead. At the outset, these clothes might seem like an unbearably warm choice for wearing into the desert, but the benefits of reflecting the sun off the skin will soon become apparent. A wide brimmed hat also makes an excellent addition to your desert-going attire. No matter how you decide to dress, however, you need to carefully apply a layer of sunscreen to all exposed skin before your journey and reapply it frequently throughout the day. With the ever-present sunlight, it's essential that you protect your skin.
As for provisions, the most obvious thing to tote along with you is water – dehydration is closely associated with the desert. What's less apparent is how much water you should bring with you. For very short trips, a quart per person is usually sufficient, while a gallon or more is needed for trips lasting longer than two hours. You should also bring along dried fruit, nuts, jerky, or other food that won't spoil during the trip because you'll need to refuel after expending the energy needed to hike your trail. Be sure to take the time to keep yourself hydrated and to replenish your energy, especially if you begin to feel fatigued.
In addition to these basics, you also need to take along items that will be helpful in case you get into trouble. For example, although you're likely going on a hike to get away from it all, it's important to pack a fully charged cell phone because it is the easiest way to call for help in an emergency. A whistle is also useful in cases where assistance is needed as it doesn't require as much effort as yelling to attract the attention of nearby people.
The key to discovering Scottsdale's desert surroundings is to simply be prepared. Knowing where you're going and having the right items on hand are vital to a successful trip.

Most people plan their vacation with the expectation that it will refresh their minds and revitalize their bodies, but all too often they find that the exact opposite occurs. Have you ever returned home from a vacation only to discover that you actually needed to recoup from your "relaxing" getaway? If you've ever experienced this, and you're sick of feeling worn out at the end of a vacation, consider taking a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona. If you're at all familiar with the city, you might associate it with its spring training facilities for professional baseball teams or even its famous architecture school. But, did you know that Scottsdale is one of the most popular spa and resort vacation destinations in the entire United States? It's easy to imagine heading to Scottsdale and taking a week to get away from it all at one of the city's many resort spas, or dropping into a day spa for some much-needed pampering. Whatever you might be looking for in a relaxing vacation, Scottsdale has just what you need.
As a city in the middle of the picturesque Sonoran Desert, Scottsdale has many spas that find inspiration for their treatments in the sands and drought-resistant plants that dominate the landscape. In addition to facials and massages that incorporate a variety of botanical ingredients, including agave and desert lavender, many of the treatments offered at local spas are inspired by local Native American traditions and are used to reinvigorate the mind and body. Any of these wonderfully restorative treatments are sure to calm the senses and help restore a sense of balance.
Even with all of the lovely resorts and the excellent spa treatments, chances are that you don't want to spend your entire trip being pampered and lounging around. That's why area resort spas make an effort to incorporate some fun and exciting excursions and fitness classes to keep your body in motion throughout your stay. You can enjoy the glories of the desert on any one of several guided hikes that allow you to scale local mountains or test your rock climbing skills on the face of a boulder. If you'd rather stay indoors during the stifling summer heat, many resorts offer classes within the comfort of their facilities. You can choose to keep your body limbered up with some yoga classes, or add a little flair to your visit with a fun dance class.
No matter which way you decide to relax – whether you're simply looking to take a break from your stressful work schedule with a secluded week of pampering or you want to take a healthy, active vacation – Scottsdale is the destination for you. Plus, due to the relatively warm climate of the location, you can enjoy many of the activities and treatments offered by these resorts at any time of year.
If you'd like to learn more about all of the resorts in the area and the services they have to offer, contact the Scottsdale Visitors Bureau.

As a family-friendly city, Tampa has plenty of entertainment options for children and adults alike. Whether you're just visiting the area for a few days, you've recently moved to the area, or you're simply looking for some summer activities for the kids, here are a few ideas to consider.
Most kids adore animals and will jump at the chance to see a giraffe or elephant. That makes Busch Gardens one of the area's top stops for local and visiting families alike. The whole family can enjoy watching animals that hail from all parts of Africa and beyond, and the theme park has everything from lions and hyenas to tigers and exotic birds. There are even several opportunities for visitors to interact with the wildlife, from tempting parakeets with cups of nectar to petting kangaroos and wallabies. Even if your kids aren't too keen on observing animals, the theme park has you covered. Throughout the park, you'll find numerous rides and midway-style games to entertain everyone, including a collection of roller coasters that to provide a thrilling experience. On particularly hot days, it might be a better choice to take the family across the street to Busch Gardens' sister park, Adventure Island, a water park with slides, a lazy river, and play areas.
If the Floridian summer heat proves too oppressive for a trip to either of the parks, there's an air conditioned attraction not far from Busch Gardens. Get the kids out of the heat and into the fun and thought-provoking exhibits at the Museum of Science and Industry, commonly referred to as MOSI. There, the family can learn about topics ranging from weather to engineering, all through interactive and entertaining demonstrations. You can also pay a separate admission fee to watch a movie in MOSI's IMAX Dome Theater, where the museum plays movies of scientific interest, like nature documentaries, as well as showing some of the most popular new releases in a uniquely immersive format.
Although these destinations are excellent choices for virtually any family, they can be a bit pricy, especially if you're planning to bring multiple people along. If you're looking for a more economical alternative, don't forget all of the outdoor adventures the area has to offer with its wealth of beaches. Kids are sure to love building sandcastles, playing in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and hunting for seashells. But, be sure to slather on the sunscreen before the fun begins! Also, keep in mind the dozens of Tampa Bay area parks, which provide opportunities to do everything from canoeing up rivers that still reflect old Florida to exploring beautiful botanical gardens and hiking forest trails. Many of these parks charge small admission fees, and they are often determined by the carload rather than by the person, making them perfect for budget-minded parents.
Of course, these activities are only suggestions to get you started. Remember that Tampa and the surrounding area has hundreds of family-oriented activities ready for you and your loved ones to enjoy.
