Merriam-Webster defines a bucket list as "a list of things that one has not done before but wants to do before dying". The term bucket list comes from the phrase kick the bucket (meaning to die). Most of us think of a bucket list as something a person does when he or she is terminally ill. This is typically the case. When a physician tells his patient that his time is short, the patient's eyes are opened to the reality of his impending death. The patient realizes he has but two options, "live while you are living, or die while you are living". The patient has the choice of living life to his very last breath or spending the last moments of life in worry and regret. For those who chose to accept their death, a world of possibilities opens up. This realization gives rise to the bucket list.

When the terminally ill write their bucket lists, it usually includes things that the person always thought he or she would have time for. Bucket lists usually include such things as touring the Grand Canyon, visiting Italy, or something similar to this. Some bucket lists can be quite extravagant or even outrageous. There are people who go sky diving, race car driving, and scuba diving. A bucket list has to take into account a person's health and finances. For some people, a bucket list may simply consist of spending time with their family (some people have never done this). A bucket list is a personal matter. It can contain any items the writer sees worthy of his or her attention. Only the person writing the bucket list knows how his last days should be spent. No one can tell you what activities your bucket list should contain. This list comes from the heart.

The bucket list need not be something one writes upon learning of his or her imminent death. This list may be made at any point in one's life time. It may even be compiled upon reaching one's twentieth year. The bucket list is a kind of "to do" list. This could be seen as an enduring bucket list. There may be other names for this list, but enduring bucket list will do for this article.

Most people have a general idea of what they would like to do with their lives when they are young. This includes going to college, getting married, having children, buying a house, and so on. These are goals. Though these goals are somewhat different from a traditional bucket list, they constitute the things we would like to accomplish while we are in the world. We should not restrict the bucket list to a certain age or category. Anything we wish to accomplish in life should be part of the bucket list. If marriage is something you would like to experience before you die, then so be it. That is your choice.

I say that the bucket list is something we should write early in life for a couple of reasons. Writing gives our bucket list power. The written word is much more powerful than thoughts, and even the spoken word. When we write, we are giving intention to what we say. When we write down our thoughts, we are telling the world that we mean what we say. Universal laws give life to our words. By putting our thoughts in writing, we are ensuring that they will come to fruition; especially when we write with conviction. It can be no other way.

The other reason we should write our bucket list early in life is that we could die tomorrow, and some of our dreams may never be realized. We do not know when death will come for us. This is a fact. We act as if we will live into old age and with all the time in the world to do the things we want. When we stop to consider this unrealistic belief, we understand we are fooling ourselves. Therefore, it is vital that we decide what we want to do with our lives. Life will throw obstacles in our path, but there is no reason why we cannot remain firm in our resolve to accomplish the most important items in our bucket list. We also have the right to change or add to our bucket list.

A herniated disc diagnosis can come with a lot of uncertainty. Like many patients in similar situations, you may be wondering: How much longer will I have to deal with this pain? Will I need surgery? What happens if I never find relief? Before you panic, stop and take a deep breath. Now, let this fact sink in: Most patients who are diagnosed with a herniated disc will find relief from nonsurgical treatments in a matter of weeks or months.

    Common Nonsurgical Treatments

You may be wondering what types of nonsurgical treatments can be used to abate the pain and discomfort associated with a herniated disc. There is actually a wide assortment of conservative (nonsurgical) treatments available that your physician may recommend individually or as part of a multi-treatment regimen. Some of the most common conservative treatments include:

Medication – Barring any drug allergies or underlying medical conditions (especially those that affect the cardiovascular or gastrointestinal systems), you will likely be advised to take over-the-counter, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen. These medications block the body's production of certain inflammation-inducing enzymes, which could help to relieve some of the pressure that your herniated disc is placing on your spinal cord, nerve, or nerve root. Should over-the-counter medication prove ineffective, your physician may prescribe narcotic pain relievers and/or muscle relaxants.

Cryotherapy and thermotherapy – More commonly referred to as ice and heat therapy, cryotherapy and thermotherapy may be recommended as individual treatments or in conjunction with one another on an alternating basis. Applying ice to your neck or back can help numb your pain and provide relief from inflammation. Heat, on the other hand, can increase blood flow to the area, potentially speeding up the healing process. Thermotherapy can also help relieve muscle tension which could be contributing to your discomfort.

Physical therapy – Working with a physical therapist to slowly increase the strength of your neck and back muscles could provide your spine with much needed support that may, in turn, relieve the pressure being placed on the affected intervertebral disc. In addition to strength training, your physical therapy regimen may consist of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (or TENS, during which gentle electrical currents are used to stimulate nerves to help relieve pain), massage therapy, and/or any other treatments recommended by your physical therapist.

Lifestyle adjustments – Your physician may determine that certain aspects of your lifestyle have contributed to the development of a herniated disc, or are exacerbating the pain and discomfort you're experiencing. For instance, being overweight can place a tremendous amount of strain on the neck and back. If your physician believes that your weight is a contributing factor to your condition, then you may be advised to follow a weight-loss plan. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, you may also benefit from becoming more physically active to increase muscle strength in your neck and back. You may also be advised to reverse other behaviors, such as using tobacco products or abusing alcohol.

When Conservative Treatments Fail to Provide Meaningful Relief

If you've received little to no relief after following a regimen of conservative treatments for several weeks or months, your physician may recommend surgical treatment. To make certain that you didn't receive your herniated disc diagnosis in error, you may want to receive a second or third opinion before you consent to any type of surgical treatment. You may also want to ask if a minimally invasive procedure could be a viable alternative to open neck or back surgery. These procedures are performed on an outpatient basis through very small incisions, making rehabilitation and recovery much less arduous than in the case of open neck or back surgeries.

    Summary:

In a recent symposium in New York City, scientists who both believed and disbelieved in God discussed the problematic issue of science and religion. Opponents of a Supreme Being involved in creating our universe framed their arguments around their beliefs that centuries of scientifically proven biological experiments and theoretical physics and mathematics exclude God's participation, while proponents took the opposite view where they felt that science cannot answer all the mysteries of life and there must be something more.

    Highlights of the Conference:

Lawrence Krauss, a theoretical physicist at Arizona State University, suggested that God was more of an abstraction because religion had no direct role to play in explaining our world. At the same time, he felt that science could and has adequately answered most of our worldly questions. A contrary view was taken by author Dinesh D'Souza who indicated that science and religion were two fundamentally independent entities. D'Souza argued that while science can help tell us about how our universe began and progressed, science cannot answer why the universe exists, the purpose of our existence, and what will come afterward. Ian Hutchinson, a professor of nuclear and engineering at MIT, acknowledged that although science can help us understand the world, science was still compatible with a separate role for religion. This role was disputed by Michael Shermer, founding publisher of Skeptic magazine, who counter argued that a Supreme God was just one of a thousand gods who have disappeared from the public eye.

    God From the Beginning:

In my opinion, you just can't count the last five-hundred years of scientific advances as Dr. Krauss suggests. You need to search for God from the beginning of the universe and through the billions of years of planetary existence. No scientist can explain the origin of life, or even the inner workings of Evolution. Although scientists can offer hypotheses on God's miracles, no experimental evidence exists to exclude God from creating our entire world. In fact quite the opposite, God was, He is, and He will be. He travels at incredible speeds ― one million times the speed of light and is independent of time. God is Omnipresent or present everywhere simultaneously. Sadly science, for the most part, has chosen to ignore unexplainable events like the wonders of nature, supernatural experiences with angels, or human experiences out of the ordinary like looking down from the ceiling in a hospital surgical room and seeing yourself dying on the operating table. Can science explain how God spoke His Commandments from the Heavens in a ear-deafening booming "Voice" at Mount Sinai to 600,000 plus Israelites? Or how He could speak to Adam and Eve and Satan the Devil in the Garden of Eden, or to the biblical Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, kings David and Solomon, the Hebrew prophets or even to a sperm whale that swallowed the prophet Jonah? Do scientists really believe that they can attribute the intricacies of the miraculous workings of the human body at the cellular level to evolutionary principles without the aid of a Supreme Being master designer?

Certainly science cannot explain the Divine soul. God's limitless Light energy supplies the seven billion souls on earth that each of us incorporate into our bodies during the fetal period in our mothers' wombs. Because we carry this tiny piece of His Light energy as our Divine souls, God is Omniscient or all knowing and He knows what's transpiring in the hidden nooks and crannies of our minds. Our soul energy like oxygen is necessary for life and has a brain independent of our human brains. Both the soul and body cooperate to generate human function. His special Light energy also pervades the entire three dimensional space of the atmosphere and gives mass to elementary particles which is essential to the structure of matter and life itself. In relation to our individual soul mini brains, God has trillions of times more energy which accounts for His Omnipotence or limitless powers.

    The Long View:

I have an unshakable belief in, trust, and love of God. However, I am a scientist in my core being and I try to bring science into my writings about God and spirituality. My personal long held view these past fourteen years is that God is the master scientist, and that our whole world from the inception of the universe is His creation. Life has been one master experiment that God designed to test whether the human species could improve their character so that He could lead us from an imperfect world to a future world where all evil will be subdued and humans will become spiritual human beings. Each of us has been given a lifetime to correct our faults and it would be wise on our part to choose to live a meaningful life in the "now" in whatever time is left for each of us.

Have you ever stopped to wonder whether God with His immense knowledge actually predetermined our world so that we would discover what we have discovered these past earthly centuries? What scientists have learned about the human body, God knew about long before humans ever existed. The same is true of our universe. It was God Who was in charge of natural events which initiated the Big Bang. God pre-planned everything even the Free Will He gave us to map our own destinies. Furthermore He has provided each of us with moral tests in our lives to determine who of us will be admitted into the second Garden of Eden in the Messianic Age. NO! Science cannot exclude God because God already included science in His master plan to shape the world. If you don't believe me, you will when God sets foot on our planet in the near future.

    Summary:

Scientists form hypotheses, carry out laboratory and theoretical experiments to prove their hypotheses, and publish their work in peer reviewed scientific journals. In my mind, God is the Master Scientist Who keeps His theories to Himself while feeling no need to provide scientific proof to we mortals. Rather God disguises his scientific accomplishments in the form of miracles. Because of the Free Will that God gave us, His position to us is stated simply and elegantly ― it's your choice whether to believe or not believe in Me. Furthermore, if you trust as I do that God dictated to Moses the first Five Books of the Hebrew Bible, known as the Torah, then God is His own published author. It is in the Torah that we find God the Master Scientist as well as the Master Creator.

    The Choice:

When God gave us Free Will, He ensured that even the most disinterested party did not have to believe in Him and could believe only in the evolutionary and scientific explanations for the existence of our universe, planet, and ourselves. However besides our choice to believe or disbelieve in God, there is also another choice for those who have Faith. Did God create the world initially at the time of the big bang and then step back to allow natural events to occur or has God played a behind the scenes continuous role in the development of our world? It gets even more complicated. Is God, unbeknownst to us, at the helm of our ship while we journey from port to port during the course of our lives making new discoveries? Or has God pre-planned everything so that although we are captains of our own ship thinking that we are making new discoveries, these discoveries are really old hat to God? The fact that God has foreseen everything doesn't make our lives less joyful or less exciting for as Forrest Gump said in the movies, life is like a box of chocolates as you never know what you are going to get. One should look at God as a scientist irrespective of one's personal beliefs. Please keep in mind that although we use our limited human brains to understand our lives and universe; with his limitless organizing intelligence of energy God plans on a higher level that we are not capable of accessing. God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts. God's ways are higher than our ways.

    God the Physicist:

We published a previous article on this internet site which suggested that the physicist's unseen Higgs Field was the same as our proposed undetected God Field. The Higgs field is essential to the structure of matter and in turn to life itself. Our thoughts were that at the time of the big bang, only God existed as unique Light Energy particles. We further suggested that these special resting Light Energy particles acted like a reverse black hole and contained the darkness and all the gaseous ingredients necessary to kick start our universe 14 billion years ago. At a time of God's choosing, He caused or became the big bang, and today God's Light Energy represents more than one billion quadrillion of these special particles. God's energy particles are still geometrically increasing as our universe perpetually expands.

Spiritual energy particle calculations indicate that God's energy particles currently occupy 625 billion plus miles of space. If true this would be a huge number in line with scientific views that trillions of miles of space are thought to be a crude estimate of the distance spanning the universe. God therefore represents a large part of three-dimensional space and He has the potential to spread His energy particles throughout our universe, so that He essentially is space itself. God is thus the master physicist because all planetary, life forms, and even inanimate objects like water and rocks are "alive" and filled with God's energy. This special Light Energy was discussed on the very First Day of Creation of our world in the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament and is independent of the light energy from the sun which did not show up until the Fourth Day of Creation or millions to billions of years later.

    God the Rainbow Creator:

Aristotle may have been the first recorded human to study rainbows. However, almost twenty-five hundred years before Aristotle, God was speaking to Noah about setting His bow in the sky. The actual text comes from Genesis IX:11, "And I [God] will ratify My covenant with you [humankind]: never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth." And from Genesis IX: 12-17, "This is the sign of the covenant that I give between Me and you being that is with you, to generations forever. I have set my bow [rainbow] in the cloud and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. And it shall happen, when I place a cloud over the earth, and the bow will be seen in the cloud. I will remember My covenant between Me and you and every living being among all flesh, and the water shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud and I shall look upon it to remember the everlasting covenant between Me and every living being, among all flesh that is upon the earth." A "sign" is an agreement between God and man while the actual agreement forged is called the "covenant."

Was God the first one to see a rainbow? As far as we know, YES. Rainbows are natural occurrences which seem to brighten our world no matter how bleak our future looks. If one carefully examines the biblical text, one can't help but notice that God is actually claiming the rainbow to be His bow as if He owned it. Even if the rainbow is a natural phenomenon that always existed from the beginning of the time when the sun's rays were refracted within rain droplets, God could have created the rainbow in the sky without the water droplets just as He created Adam from the stardust without a sperm and an egg. It is well known that scientists discovered that white light is actually made up of a spectrum of colors of different wavelengths. Yet why is this so? Do rainbows exist for our pleasure or is the real significance the sign of the covenant between God and man? Moreover, why should white light have this color composition and is the color spectrum created by God purposely chosen because we tend to know and love visualizing colors with our eyes, so much so that when we see color we easily remember what we saw? Will God show all of humankind a rainbow simultaneously everywhere on the earth in future Messianic times to demonstrate His covenant with us?

    God the Microbiologist:

While the universe is approximately 14 billion years old, our earth did not form until 4.5 billion years ago and we did not see the first fossilized microorganisms until 3.8 billion years ago. But where did these bacteria come from? If you examine the scientific studies on the Origin of Life, you discover that scientists cannot tell you how life initially began, just like they cannot tell you what happened during those Divine moments before the big bang. Bacteria and other advanced life forms have DNA but you can't make DNA without enzyme proteins and you can't make enzyme proteins without DNA. It's the chicken and egg hypothesis where you don't know which came first ― the chicken or the egg. You need the chicken to hatch the egg but you need the egg to give rise to the chicken. No scientist in any laboratory has found a way to create macromolecules of DNA or enzyme proteins. So how did these fossilized microorganisms appear 3.8 billion years ago? Francis Crick the Nobel Laureate, who with James Watson solved the double helix structure of DNA, proposed that aliens on UFO spaceships brought these microorganisms to earth 3.8 billion years ago. I kind of agree with Sir Francis as long as we substitute angels for aliens commanding the spaceships. God is the microbiologist who created microorganisms billions of years before the science of microbiology began. Microorganisms would be a snap undertaking for God if you accept the premise that God created Adam out of stardust.

    God the Geneticist:

There is an interesting story in the Bible written thirty-six hundred years ago about the Jewish Patriarch Jacob and his scheming father-in-law Laban. Jacob had worked tirelessly for fourteen years to marry both of Laban's daughters, Leah and Rachel, and their handmaids Zilpah and Bilhah. When he wished to leave with his family and his little flock of animals, Laban refused telling Jacob that he was good luck for Laban and that Jacob had to work an additional six years. Jacob knew that Laban was unscrupulously dishonest and that he needed to set up conditions in an agreement which by the natural order of things seemingly totally favored Laban. At the same time, Jacob realized he had to behave according to what is written in Psalm XVIII:27, "With the trustworthy, act trustingly and with the crooked, act perversely."

The story is taken from Genesis XXX. Jacob asks Laban to let him pass through Laban's whole flock. Laban will then remove from the flock every speckled or spotted (reddish brown) sheep, every reddish brown lamb and the speckled or spotted (white markings) among the goats and give these existing "damaged" animals to Laban. Then Jacob promises that he will tend Laban's remaining unblemished pure white sheep and pure black goats but if any future offspring are born abnormally colored, Jacob will keep these as his wages. Jacob further agrees that that if there are any pure monochrome animals among his speckled and spotted future born offspring that the whole agreement is nullified in Laban's favor as Jacob will keep not even the newly born mixed colored animals and he will wind up with nothing. Jacob was acting with integrity even though Laban was not. Laban felt that he couldn't lose as it was unimaginable to him that speckled and spotted sheep and goats could be born from pure monochrome colored white sheep and black goats. Jacob on the other hand felt that God would bless him in a miracle. What neither realized was that God was a geneticist and that speckled and spotted animals could be born from one-colored white sheep and black goats if the mix of genes during the mating of each animal would allow it. Thus many speckled and spotted animals were born and Jacob became very rich while Laban fumed as he had been outwitted even though he too benefited from Jacob's shepherding.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

In the first half of the 20th century (1900-1950)-- with very few exceptions-- venture capital investments were made by very wealthy families like the Rockefellers (Standard Oil), the Vanderbilt family (shipping lines and railroads), and the Warburg family (financial dynasty including banking, and the US Federal Reserve). Among the many businesses these families funded one must include both Eastern Airlines and Douglas Aircraft.

Venture capital is not a new business arrangement, but has been in practice for centuries. For example, when Magellan convinced the King and Queen of Spain to fund his voyage in searching for the Spice Islands, the King and Queen dictated a deal to Magellan whereby they took over 75 percent of the profits from his 'round the world, three year adventure. In an era when a large handful of spices could be sold for enough money to buy a house and care for a person for many years, Magellan did not see the fruits of his daring adventure but instead was killed on the voyage. (There is a lesson in that.)

    Origins of Modern Private Equity

Prior to 1940, development capital was known as "money orders."

After World War II (Post-1945) the true private equity investments emerged as the first two venture capital companies (American Research and Development Corporation -ARDC- and JH Whitney & Company) in the United States.

ARDC was founded by Georges Deroit, Ralf Flanders, and Karl Compton. (Deroit was the former Dean of Harvard Business School. Compton was the former president of MIT.) Their goal was to encourage private investors to invest in businesses developed by former American soldiers after they returned from World War II.

ARDC is important in the venture capital world because this firm was the first to raise money from sources other than wealthy families like the Rockefellers and Warburgs. ARDC impressed the investing world when the company's 1957 investment of $70,000 grew to be worth over $350 million when the company went public in 1968. This huge economic return for ARDC caused a huge growth in the industry as investors sought to duplicate those returns.

Early Venture Capital and the Growth of Silicon Valley

In 1958 the Small Business Investment Act was passed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) which allowed Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs) to provide financing, including locating private investors, to aid in the financing of small businesses in the United States. (Source: Small Business Administration Investment Division (SBIC).

In the 1960s and 1970s venture capital firms invested in high growth companies in the electronic, medical, or data-processing areas. As time progressed most uneducated investors saw VC funding as only technology business funding because VC firms seemed to only invest in them. Although technology funding is still a strong suit among VC firms, venture capital can now cover multiple areas of development.

During the 1960's, creative investors have developed the primary legal structure to aid in financing the growth and development. "General and Limited Partnership" legal structures are the perfect opportunity for investment in private equity. This type of structure, with some variation, has been used in a wide range of investments ranging from real estate syndication through private equity business investments.

The legal structure places the general partner (GP) in an unlimited liability position if an investment fails but limits the risk of the limited partner (LP) (hence the name) to the amount invested, if the business fails.

This form of partnership often carries with it an annual management fee of less than 2.5 percent as well as 20 plus percent of the profit proceeds to the GP. The risk reward ratio is high enough that General Partners are more than satisfied to accept the risk, and the Limited Partners see the exponential growth development into multiple returns against the capital they have contributed.

In the 1970s, VC firms grew fast in Silicone Valley on Sand Hill Road almost next door to emerging technology firms like Hewlett Packard, Intel, and Apple. As these firms became more successful and VC investments paid-off, more and more individuals left these successful companies to start their own firms and sought additional VC funding.

It became an upward spiral—an American success story, that has had bumps in the road, but still successfully continues today.

Interestingly during this same period, with the passage of the Employee Retirement income Security Act (ERISA) in 1974, corporate pension plans could place money in this type investment, creating a new source of revenue.

At the start of the 1980s there were very few VC firms in Silicone Valley, but by the end of the decade, the number of VC firms in the same area had increased to over 650 with enormous amounts of money chasing too small a number of truly good business opportunities.

In the mid-1980s, returns began to decline and after the stock market crash of 1987 only the Japanese and Koreans seemed to be injecting money into start-up businesses. Instead, the business VC firms shifted from investing in start-up businesses to seeking leveraged buy-outs and hostile takeovers (as was portrayed in movie "Wall Street").

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Although Ronald Reagan expanded the economy through governmental defense spending from the middle to the end of the 1980s, venture capital profits declined through the mid-1990s and a new wealth generator for venture capitalists replaced funding start-up companies…. the Leveraged Buyout.

For definition, a leveraged buyout (LBO) is the purchase of a company with a combination of debt and the target company's assets, which might include airplanes, real property, and/or cash flow. All of these are used to repay the debt taken out to buy the business. (The debt, much as in real estate when a 90/10 loan is taken out on a rental property, is considered the leverage to buy the business).

Beginning in about 1995, VC money was being sought by and was beginning to "feed" companies creating internet businesses.

Functioning on what was to be known as "the biggest fool theory"--- where the last person to own the stock loses all his investment--- companies went public with enormous valuations without ever having sold one product. Instead, they were selling blue sky, or opportunity.

By the turn of the century, in the year 2000, the investing world had started to realize that technology and internet companies were yielding either low or non-existent returns and began dumping these stocks in favor of better investment opportunities---leading to what became known as the bursting of the "dot-com bubble." The sell-off caused VC firms to experience net losses on their internet and technology companies and the private equity business stalled, yet again. Cyclically, VC again must seek out opportunity.

Since 2005, however, VC funding has remained fairly constant even with the market decline of 2008-2010. This window of lending seems to have established itself and seems key to some serious investment and critical infrastructure development.

Let's ExamineThe VC View on Investing

With very few exceptions, VC firms care where the money is invested as long as it does not violate their moral principles.

Given that moral reality, VC firms are interested in:

    1. How much they must invest.

    2. When they will get that money back; and

    3. How much return they are going to get on their investment.

Venture capital is money invested in a company in exchange for company equity. The venture capitalist earns money from either:

    1. Cash flow from the business when it becomes profitable and receives dividends;

    2. When the stock is sold privately, and/or

    3. After the company goes public through an IPO.

Most VC firms are not out to save the whales, to feed the starving children in Biafra, or stop the war in Uganda. Instead they want returns for their investors and on investment capital expended-- and, as mentioned, follow their personal values clearly stated by the company in doing so.

    Selecting a Business to Fund

As previously mentioned VC investors carefully look for the following characteristics when considering investing in a company:

    1. An experienced, proven management team, with past demonstrable results.

    2. Dramatic growth potential for the concept being funded.

    3. Capital-efficient/scalable business model which has been fully vetted and approved;

    4. Significant barriers to entry

    5. Highly differentiated products or services that are compelling and unique;

    6. A probable exit from the business in between three and seven years, post-funding.

Interestingly enough, in a survey of over 100 VC firms, it is estimated that the average clock time a VC firm Project Screener invests only about eight minutes on a project before he or she moves to the next project submitted for review. Further, a venture capitalist may screen 400 projects before it ever funds one that it is interested in moving forward to the due diligence phase.

Clearly, the key six points listed previously must be clearly addressed in a business proposal, or the proposal will be thrown into the "round file" faster than can be imagined.

    Due Diligence and Business Development

Venture capitalists are careful and do a great deal of detailed research in both the people and the potential business opportunity itself before investing any money. They do this because:

    1. They want return of their investment,

    2. They want return on their investment, and

    3. If they invest in just any project, they may lack insufficient capital to invest later on, in a potentially more profitable opportunity (aka opportunity cost) so they must be certain that each project has a very high probability of success, as well as high profits.

VC firms usually invest in areas in which they have expertise. The expertise may come from VC firm previous experience with other similar investments, or from the VC staff itself, who may have successful business experience in the business being considered for investment.

VC firms universally want at least one seat on the Board of Directors in the businesses they are investing in, depending on how much money has been invested, and are often highly involved in business development because of their successful past similar-field experience.

A business owner should expect this level of involvement and interest from a VC investor.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Obtaining venture capital is substantially different from raising debt or applying for a loan from a direct lender, like a bank. It takes time, effort and energy to create a compelling sales package that venture capital groups will review, find interesting, and work to fund.

Lenders have a legal right to interest on a loan and repayment of the capital, irrespective of the success or failure of a business. Venture capital elects to be invested in exchange for an equity stake in the business. As a shareholder, the venture group's return is dependent on the growth and profitability of the business, which is based on success achievement. This return is generally earned when the venture capitalist "exits" by selling its shares when the business is sold or divested to another owner.

    Funding

Whereas a lender is legally entitled to interest on his loan and can take legally take collateral to satisfy debts, venture capitalists own equity in the company and therefore can often be the last in line if the business fails to generate enough capital to pay the investment back.

A lender earns returns from interest on the funds injected. Equity holders earn returns from profits and company growth. The venture capitalist earns the majority of their returns when they dispose of their stock--- which explains why they may study up to 400 different potential investments before they select one in which they want to invest.

The challenge is for you to develop a business case for your project that makes it the one in 400 potential investments they simply must make.

Since VC firms can logically expect to hold an investment for as long as seven years, they are interested in ventures which offer potentially incredibly high growth rates to make up for the long waiting period. In comparison, a home is seldom held for more than seven years and that is considered to be a very illiquid investment.

Companies that seek venture capital typically have high up-front set-up costs.

Because startup companies rarely demonstrate strong cash flow and generally can offer few assets to serve as collateral, VC investors may represent the only source of high levels of funding. This "only source" position can make VC money very expensive to the business owner, requiring them to give up far more of their equity than they would normally like to surrender.

    Preparation

A VC firm's ultimate goal for a company is usually to take it to the public markets (Stock exchanges) whereby a share stock that they may have acquired for a dollar is sold on a stock exchange for $20 or more. As a venture capitalist, for example, Mitt Romney acquired a net worth of $250 million before his run for the US presidency in 2012.

Business owners who want to take their businesses public know this is the high road of wealth creation. These business owners will start a company, make it very profitable, and eventually take it to the stock market to sell off shares they acquired for one cent for $20 or more. Bill Gates, the late Steve Jobs, and all of the Walton family plus and a large number of The Forbes 400 Richest Americans amassed billions in wealth through IPO stock sales.

To prepare for such possibilities venture capitalists assist in four defined stages of a company's development. Let's look at each of these four and apply some ideas to each stage:

    1. Idea generation: An idea that can be used for business purposes. If you have an idea, how you apply the various attributes of business to that idea can make an immense difference in the mid-term and long term success of the venture.

    2. Start-up: "A startup company or startup is a company or temporary organization designed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model.

    3. Ramp up: Ramp up is a term used in economics and business to describe an increase in firm production ahead of anticipated increases in product demand. Alternatively, ramp up describes the period between product development, and maximum capacity utilization, characterized by product and process experimentation and improvements.

    4. Exit: In VC terms, the Exit is the selling off of the VC's equity to achieve profits or to mitigate losses.

    Finding a Venture Capital Firm

There are no public exchanges listing VC stock for private companies therefore companies desiring VC investors usually meet in methods such as:

    • VC sponsored investors conferences and seminars. These have become big business in recent years, where a group will put together ten or twenty representatives of venture capital firms, who come together, meet with potential referrals—as well as potential investors---and begin the "courtship ritual."

    • Internet searches or online listing companies. One prime example of this is the website www.GainStreamGroup.com. Gain Stream Group has compiled, contacts, determines the legitimacy of, and then makes venture capital groups and contacts available to those searching for specific types of lenders. The advantage of a Gain Stream Group over purchasing or just using a blanket list of lenders is that Gain Stream Group looks at the stage your business is in, helps assess the area of lending that would be most helpful, and targets the lenders contact info that you receive to a class and type of lender that would be best able to meet your lending needs.

    • Referrals from business associates. Often, you will meet and become acquainted with others in your specific industry, and these contacts may be quite helpful in putting together a list of lenders who may have financed their projects along the way.

It is very important to verify that the VC firm you are interested in working with is a legitimate firm and not a group of criminals attempting to steal your business idea or in some way defraud you of funds.

Not many of us are aware of the fact that acne can also appear in our genital area. Normally, we believe that acne affects the face, neck, chest and back area only. But acne can go beyond that. Genital area is another part of the body that can be harshly affected by it.

One can start the treatment of genital acne as soon as their physician determines the existing skin breakout on these sensitive areas as genital acne. Acne appears in the genital area in form of lumps, and at times these lumps might indicate a sexually transmitted disease or some other problem.

Contrary to the popular belief, even those who are leading a very hygienic life and take several baths in a day may suffer from acne lumps in genitals. It can occur if your skin is allergic to particular things and may also be caused due to blockage of pores.

As stated above, genital lumps do not always indicate sexually transmitted disease because there are several causes for them. They may be caused by sweating, sports tools or apparel and sometimes even due to the washing detergent or soap you are using.

You can minimize the occurrence of genital acne with the help of frequent bathing or by replacing the brand of your soap. It is also possible that despite all care one may not see the kind of improvement one expects. In that case one should take the help of an expert immediately.

It has been observed that treatment for genital acne requires a month or two to show some signs of improvement. So it is advisable not to change the treatment in a hurry and give the required time to your treatment.

In some treatments, the acne problem gets worse before getting better. So do not howl at that time, as it will soon turn positive. They might give trouble but popping the pimples is not solution and can worsen the situation and may lead to scars.

So, just take it easy. Take the precautions mentioned above and if the problem persists, do contact a specialist, and do as he says. Keep up with your hygienic habits and things would improve very soon.

When you first start to think about drying clothes, you might be inclined to think about the technology that many people use today. These latest innovations are great overall, but they suck up energy that can cost a fortune for some. If you want to get away from the world of paying too much for your electric bill, there's an alternative that can easily be utilized. The better option is simply a clothesline. The standard that has been used for hundreds of years can still work today, only it's been updated and made into something of modern technique. Much like all major improvements have gone through changes over the years with innovation and more, so has this standard of getting heat to remove wetness from garments.

The standard washer and dryer combination is an expensive commodity to purchase for the home. Even if you could afford to purchase an option, you'll find that you will still have to invest in the cost to run each one. Running the items on a regular basis, even if you're not doing laundry all the time, still can cost a small fortune. In fact, millions of people pay thousands of dollars for this privilege and it can definitely wear thin. If you're not keen on doing this, and you wan to change things up, you can easily go for an alternative that is just as effective.

When you look at modern clothesline options, you will find that they are not just one line connected to two poles. It's rotary, it's stronger, and made to fit small or large spaces with relative ease. The latest options allow you to get the most out of the elements, getting full spectrum views of the sun in order to dry garments that would otherwise take extended periods of time to get free and clear of water.

The latest innovations come as a surprise to many people, especially those that assume this is something that is in the past. The present has allowed a great variety of options to come to fruition, and this is just one of the many. You'll find that this option can really be great when you're low on funds and you absolutely need to get clean clothes for business or leisure. You don't necessarily have to wash by hand, but if you're in a bind, this is definitely something worth looking into in conjunction with that.

There are currently different styles that you can invest your money into, so you don't have to just rely on one style. The genius of drying clothes in the sun hasn't changed a lot, but the technology that allows you to get this done with relative ease has definitely shifted to something far more interesting in modern times than ever before. You don't need to have a large plot of land, or wide open spaces to have things waving in the strong breezes, you can have a small option, rotary style or something a little larger, but with the tactile strength that will allow you to harness the power of the wind and sun with ease.

If you're looking to go green, save money, and still get something in return, you owe it to yourself to look into finding new ways to balance everyday tasks. For instance, one option that will have you delighted is simply changing the way you dry your clothing after you've washed them. Most people don't realize that it can cost a fortune to dry clothes with standard laundry, and not only that, you ruin a great number of garments by placing them in high heat and tumbling in a machine. If you're not keen on watching your money go down the proverbial drain, than you have to look into drying things with the natural elements, and investing in a rotary clothesline.

This might sound like an extreme thing to do, but it's actually quite simple. All you need is the sun and the wind in order to gain access to a natural dryer that will not only help your clothing last longer but also keep your wallet safe from losing more money than it has to. This is nothing new, millions of people have utilized the elements to keep their garments safe and sound but in a rush to modernize everything society has converted to technology. While there is nothing wrong with innovation, it can sometimes end up costing the consumer more than its worth.

Not only that, you will find that the traditional routes to getting your laundry done, could end up harming the environment. Electricity that is sucked up can end up pulling a great deal of off the grid and cause problems over time. It's with that in mind, that many are turning to more green options, including drying their clean items in the sun and wind. If you simply try this out, you will see why this is a celebrated tradition and continues to thrive today.

Before you scoff at the notion, consider that an outdoor option is not your grandmother's line. Instead of putting one long line between to poles and then mounting your whole wardrobe up, you can invest in a more modern approach. The latest innovation involves a rotary clothesline that will give you maximum effect, faster drying, and compact location. That means that you don't have to have a huge yard to spread across several yards to get this done right.

If you're not really keen on this notion of going green or you're not really sure how to move forward, than it's imperative that you consider it today. You don't have to switch everything you do, but at least consider what you're missing out on when you choose to pay money to ruin your clothing. Shrinking shirts, denim that just won't dry, and machines that are constantly breaking down are the norm that society deals with on a regular basis with coin operated laundry mats, and that doesn't have to be the case. Skeptics have been transformed into true believers swiftly by trying this method out. Instead of losing your budget to cleaning items, why not try this natural solution that will keep the planet green and your clothes dry? It will be beneficial, guaranteed.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Venture capital, a subset of private equity investing, usually represents money provided by investors to small or start-up companies with perceived long-term growth potential.

Venture capital can be injected into a company at any time the company wants to expand, sell-out, or merge with another company. Often VC money is invested after the start up (called the "Seed") phase of a business and is usually a precursor to generating a return through an IPO or trade sale of the company.

The venture capital fund makes money by investing (owning equity) in companies with potential for enormous profitability and growth; when these companies increase in profitability, the investors earn profits. Fund managers often do not invest personal money in the fund, but share proportionately in returns on fund investments.

VC funding typically occurs at the beginning of the business, as previously mentioned, but can happen whenever the company needs additional funding.

VC investors carefully look for the following characteristics when considering investing in a company:

    1. Experienced, proven management team

    2. Dramatic growth potential

    3. Capital-efficient/scalable business model

    4. Significant barriers to entry

    5. Highly differentiated products or services

    6. Probable exit from the business from between three-and-seven years.

An experienced proven management team is often considered the most important characteristic of an investment.

Venture capitalists invest in all stages of the business, not just at the angel and seed stages, and the concept is appealing for new companies with very limited operating history, generally too small to obtain a bank loan or other debt financing. In reward for taking on the enormous risk associated with a new business, VC firms usually require significant equity in the company – often exceeding 50 percent. In addition to equity they usually require at least one board seat as well as a strong voice in day-to-day operations.

Since the explosive growth of high technology firms beginning in the 1970s, VC firms have been looking for the next high technology wave like Google. Nevertheless VC firms have continued to invest in all areas of business including:

    Aviation

    Biotechnology/Life Sciences

    Business Products & Consumer Products

    Financing Stages

There are six stages of venture capital round funding that correspond to these stages of a companies development and capital needs:

    1. Seed: Typically a small amount of money invested by either crowd funding or angel investors used to prove the idea (proof of concept).

    2. Start-up: Early stage firms that have a proven concept that need funding for product development and marketing.

    3. Growth: Funds used for initial sales and manufacturing (Series A Funding).

    4. Second-Round: Operating funds for early stage companies that have started selling but have not yet shown a profit.

    5. Expansion: Funding for expansion of a newly profitable business.

The man behind the real estate giant Emaar, Dubai businessman criticizes the hype created by the media about the alleged property scams Hyderabad. While the controversy about undervaluation of the land by a government agency, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation or APIIC may be entirely untrue, the role of the real estate giant, Emaar, in the alleged property scams Hyderabad seems to be all the more further from the truth. The ongoing investigations into the alleged irregularities have revealed nothing that shows any role of the company in the entire controversy. In this light, Emaar has made clear its stance on the entire affair by declaring that it is open to cooperation with investigation agencies to clear its name from the scam and move forward with its business in the Indian market. Leaving the allegations behind, Emaar, along with its local partner MGF, is moving ahead to undertake and complete their other projects spread across India and clearly shows that Emaar MGF has grand plans in India and that the joint venture will not be deterred by such non-existent controversies.

Emaar is a reputed real estate company based in the Emirate of Dubai, one of the seven Emirates which collectively form the United Arab Emirates or UAE. After being conceptualized as a construction company in the year 1997, Emaar has since then diversified to include hospitality, hotels, malls, retail and technology under its purview. Under its Entertainment arm, Emaar has successfully created the world's finest entertainment avenues including the famed Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, Dubai Ice Rink, Reel Cinemas and SEGA Republic. The Dubai Mall is an outstanding work of Emaar, being recognized as the largest shopping mall in the emirate and hosts the annual Dubai shopping festival. Apart from these, Emaar has also interests in hospitality industry, primarily limited to Dubai, where it constructed and now manages multiple luxury hotels and have plans to launch its operations in hospitality and entertainment in regions outside of Dubai.

In the Indian market, Emaar partnered MGF Development Limited in the year 2005 to give birth to Emaar MGF entity to participate in the real estate market in India. Barring the setback it received in the alleged property scams Hyderabad which the Dubai Businessman criticizes vehemently, Emaar MGF has taken the Indian real estate market by a storm and it is already at par with other major builders in the country and has become a power to reckon with. Emaar MGF has, since 2005, undertaken projects revolving around construction of luxury residential townships in multiple cities in India along with creation of Information technology parks, business centers, business hubs and other commercial properties. While Emaar has not yet declared its ambitions in India but it should just be a matter of time before it plans to replicate its other business models in the country, much like it did in Dubai where it not only constructs but also actively manages and operates the commercial properties created by the company.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Many coming-of-age films are set in the heyday of their writers and directors. "American Graffiti" takes viewers back to the very start of the 1960s, when California's counterculture was in full swing and Vietnam wasn't yet a country many Americans could find on a map. The movie itself became a piece of Americana, capturing and encapsulating an era just before the major events of the late '60s and '70s that transformed the nation forever.

    The Sights

The visuals of "American Graffiti" are the first thing that moviegoers are likely to notice. The story has been retold and re-envisioned repeatedly, but it's hard nowadays for directors to capture the feeling of California's car culture of that time. Elements such as the cars of the day, the diners, and the dives come together to create a visually striking memory of a time gone by. Whether you're staring down the streamlined hood of a 1954 Ford or admiring the outfits and gear donned by counterculture commandos from the era, you're instantly transported back to that place and time.

The place itself was an America that is now generally forgotten. It's an age when roller waitresses ran up to windows of car fanatics and delivered burgers and fries along with a malted milk. Bright primary colors were the order of the day, whether they were the reds and whites of a pinstriped ride or the colorful uniform of those roller-bedecked waitresses. Each of these colors and elements combines to transport viewers back to an America not yet obsessed with change and world events.

    The Sounds

"American Graffiti" is often cited as Americana due to its music. The sounds of Wolfman Jack on the radio bringing the top ten rock-and-roll songs to car fanatics in Cali are instantly recognizable to this day. Many of the greatest rock singers belong to this generation, coming in before Bob Dylan made more political elements commonplace.

Many of the iconic moments in the film arise directly from the music. The main character realizes his car has been stolen not because he hears it roaring off into the night, but because he can no longer hear the strains of the steel guitar that played so melodiously only moments ago. It's the little touches like these that remind viewers of an age when music permeated everything that Americans did and were. Radio stations weren't relegated to use during long commutes, and people paid attention to their favorite musicians for their style and songs, not their antics offstage.

    The Feelings

The movie is likely to invoke more feelings than just nostalgia. Nostalgia doesn't go far for those who didn't live through the film's iconic era. The relationships between Curt, Steve, John, Terry, and their girl Fridays echo through to the modern day. From "Cheers" to "Friends," viewers notice the same themes repeated time and again in American films and television shows. It is the feelings that arise from these relationships that help keep the movie relevant even as they encapsulate a bygone time in the nation's history.

"American Graffiti" isn't a deep film. It's not fraught with drama or mystery. It shines and resonates through generations because it is lighthearted and evokes feelings of humor and excitement. The action and adventure are palpable as the main characters cruise the strip in search of the next great way to spend their last night before college. Students exiting high school even after the turn of the century find themselves with the same options and desire for having a great time before they enter studies or head into the real world. They understand the looming pressures of adulthood and embrace what may be considered their final chance at having a great time before the challenges of college and the workplace start to creep up.

    The Tale

George Lucas, the director of "American Graffiti," uses stories that are often considered Americana even when they take place in a far-away galaxy. Shows such as "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" parody or borrow heavily from the story of the film. A simple night out and a great time with friends is an iconic message that resonates with many Americans.

"American Graffiti" does a great job of capturing a bygone era in American history. The movie stands the test of time as a piece of worthwhile Americana due to its delivery of the sights, sounds, and stories of teens in a time after the country emerged from the Great Depression and world war, but before the nation became embroiled in conflicts. The film itself provides a wonderful allegory for what happened to the United States in the coming decades.

    Directed by: Sam Raimi

    Genre: Family, Adventure, Fantasy

    Stars: 3.5 out of 5

The problem with origin films is that they often try to force a connection with a beloved story by stringing together cheesy references and awkward character cameos. It's a formula for failure and an obvious issue for Sam Raimi in the making of "Oz the Great and Powerful," the 2013 prequel to the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz." Disney's new "Oz" is visually stunning and takes several thematic risks that deserve some praise. Yet, parts of the plot suffer from trying to produce expected outcomes, often skewing the story in implausible directions.

Oscar's first entry into Oz is a gasp-worthy moment for all ages. Visual effects are what make this film soar, and Raimi makes a clever choice by opening the movie with a black-and-white sequence. When Oscar's battered balloon tumbles out of the storm, it emerges into a brilliant realm of whimsically shaped landmasses, shockingly blue skies, and an almost ethereal cityscape. In this captivating world, flowers are made from sparkling gems, characters travel in delicate bubbles, and a raging fireball of doom rumbles through the sky. The audience is taken for an exhilarating ride through scenery so sharp and flawless that getting lost in this fantasy land is inevitable.

From the start, the title is meant to lead you into the irony of the film. The average viewer already knows the main character is only an ordinary man and not a powerful wizard. The screenplay builds on that concept with the protagonist Oscar Diggs-a sleazy, sweet-talking con artist who performs as a circus magician named Oz. That is where the inconsistency begins to show. The choice to use the moniker of Oz early in the film makes little sense, considering that the name Oz traditionally refers to the place and not the man.

The same issues continue as Oscar's character develops. His desire to romance every woman alive quickly leads him into trouble as he flees the circus in a hot air balloon to escape an enraged husband. As Oscar lands in Oz, he is met by the naďve and wistful Theodora, a young witch portrayed by Mila Kunis. James Franco tackles the lead role with little success. Franco's portrayal lacks the charisma and vigor Oscar is supposed to have. Much like the actor's lackluster hosting skills at the 2010 Academy Awards, his performance as Oscar feels flat and unenthusiastic.

Regardless, the wayward magician's false charm wins the heart of Theodora, sparking the bitter fallout that later ensues. The 1939 version of the Wizard is a shameless pretender; Franco's latest version is also a dishonest scoundrel. Combined, those two facts raise the question of how the character's quest to become a "great man" leads right back to the same place.

More plot holes appear as two other competing witches are introduced: actress Michelle Williams as Glinda the Good Witch and Rachel Weisz as Theodora's older sister, Evanora. The two women each try to persuade Oscar to defeat the other.

In the middle is Theodora, the only one of the witches who believes Oscar may be the long-awaited savior prophesied to restore peace in Oz. Williams stands out as a sickeningly sweet, but clever do-gooder, while Weisz is the true belle of the ball-or screen-as a beguiling manipulator. Unfortunately, having three witches crowds the screen with little time to fully develop any of the women. Williams and Weisz equally outshine Kunis, which is troubling when you consider that the latter actress is destined to transform into the cackling, green-faced villainess everyone loves.

Heartless rejection from Oscar proves to be the catalyst for Theodora's devolution. In hopes of curing her love sickness, she is tricked into eating a poisoned apple by her conniving and much smarter sister. Yet, the one-day romance between Oscar and Theodora hardly feels like a reason for such drastic heartache. Theodora is instantly turned into a violent and vengeful monster, and by default, Oscar ends up on the side of "good" and leads a war against the witchy sisters. Theodora's change seems to occur simply because a cackling, green-faced witch exists in that other "Oz" film.

Under the guidance of a director like Sam Raimi, the film offers the right balance of lighthearted playfulness and dark undertones. The movie's best creature creations are screeching, flying baboons sent to do Evanora's evil bidding. The writers try to recapture the camaraderie of the original "Oz" with Oscar's magical companions, a loyal talking monkey voiced by Zach Braff and a living china doll voiced by child actress Joey King. Several of the original plot elements are mirrored, such as the victorious Oscar giving out special gifts to his allies at the end of the film. Familiar characters like the Cowardly Lion also make brief, unnecessary cameos that add nothing to the plot.

"Oz the Great and Powerful" isn't likely to reach the status of a classic, but it's still worthwhile to experience this fresh take on the Oz folklore. Good seems to triumph in the end, but it's hard to tell with this character lineup. Looking at the Wizard's role in the original novels and the 1939 film, it might have worked better to map Oscar's evolution from a "great man" to a barely likeable man.

As the saying goes "Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are". This also holds true by looking at our things and the stuff that we are using daily. In decorating a new home or renovating an existing one, one cannot deny the excitement of choosing or remodeling furniture especially a cabinet, a drawer or a door. For some it is a lot like shopping, finding the right combination and accents for the accessories to match the main theme of the pad.

The main accessories for a cabinet, drawer or door are the knobs. Presently, knobs come in different forms, functions and sizes to match every imaginable furniture design. But the main purpose of the knob is its function. Before laying an eye on that intricate designed knob in your specialty hardware store, you must first identify the function of the furniture. Look into the functions of your furniture first and asses if the knobs you had in mind can sustain through the future wear and tear. Here are some types of knobs that can help you in your quest:

    The conventional knobs:

    • Brass knobs. These types of knobs are typically used for Victorian inspired furniture and doors. They are good for light to medium load usage.

    • Aluminum knobs. These are a good accent for those chrome / steel themed drawers and cabinets. This material is good for the kitchen or the bathroom since aluminum does not rust.

    • Plastic knobs. These are typically brightly colored knobs that come with hundreds of designs to choose from, may it be animal shaped or in alphabet letters. These types of knobs are practically applicable to all furniture in the house since plastic will not rust and can easily be wiped with a piece of damp cloth.

    • Wooden knobs. These are knobs that are best used in the office, bedroom or study room. Avoid using this on areas of the house that is constantly wet or damp such as the bathroom or the kitchen.

    • Crystal or Glass knobs. This is a new member in the family of knobs. Recently the prices of blown molded glass has substantially dropped due to modernization in the craft of glass making, hence making way to very affordable glass knobs. These types of knobs present a delicate and elegant look on your furniture or bathroom door. These types of knobs also compliment the Victorian inspired furniture. But be warned that the function of the furniture using this should only be carrying light loads to prevent the knob from breaking due to strain.

Different people suffer from back pain due to different reasons. But the most common reason for their back pain plight is following bad postures while sitting, walking or standing.

Regular practicing of bad postures has a direct impact on the spinal cord. There occurs non-alignment in the spine, which results in back pain. As the spinal cord deviates from its natural alignment, the muscles around it get disturbed because of which it is unable to support the spine and also the body weight. Thus, all these developments all together give rise to back pain and the related problems.

For people who suffer from back pain due to the non-alignment of the spinal cord and the back muscles, Pilate exercise program is the most beneficial. It works by correcting your wrong postures of sitting, standing and walking.

The basic principle involved in Pilate exercise is very simple. This exercising pattern has a step-by-step workout regime that definitely gives you relief in your back pain.

The first step is to correct your postural habits. The training involves giving lessons on how to sit, stand and walk in right postures.

The next step that follows is to align back your spinal cord. This is done by with a help of a set of exercises whose main focus remains on the spinal cord.

After this, the next and the last step is to strengthen the postural muscles around the spine. Here also, various exercises are involved that helps in strengthening those muscles. This is a very important step in the whole of the Pilate exercising program because these postural muscles are the one that support the spine and helps in maintaining balance of the body.

Not only this, the Pilate exercises also give strength to the muscles present deep in the torso of your body. A regular practice of all these steps diligently, will surely give you all that relief in your back pain that you always desired.

But, a note of caution is here. Pilate exercises are a form of a little rigorous exercise. Therefore, people who suffer from some acute form of back pain problem should always practice it after prior consultation with a good medical practitioner. Besides this, always make sure that you exercise under the guidance of a good and a qualified instructor or trainer. Only a proper and regular effort will give you relief in your back pain suffering.

Fear is a natural human response and has, thus, been experience by each one of us at some point of time in our lives. It could be a simple fear of saying something wrong in public, fear of lizards or fear of unknown.

Fear basically arises out of distrust of people or situation. And distrust here is not simply a lack of belief but it is actually a sense of uneasiness borne out of the feeling that something might go wrong at an unknown point of time. This sometime makes one reach preemptively, which means that one changes one's behavior too drastically and too suddenly. When the reaction is of a disproportionate alarm, the person might be said to be suffering from some kind of phobia.

Another form of fear is called terror, which is nothing but a fear of extreme kind. When one is struck by this kind of extreme fear the chemical response in the brain prevents the person from making a rational decision, and therefore, reacts without thinking in panic. It is possible that a person's response might be far greater than what the situation demands. In other words, the person might overreact in panic.

Fear does reside in all of us in varying degrees but it becomes a problem when this fear takes control of our lives and prevents us from doing something that we want to do or make us do something that we don't want to do. It is then that the fear becomes a disability. For instance, one is just too afraid to speak in public, which is to say if he or she is suffering from glassophobia, one might want to convey one's point to everyone but his fear, over which he has no control, would prevent him from doing so. In this case it is a crippling disability. (Glassophobia is a fear of public speaking)

Since phobia is a product of mind, the only to way to fight it, is to make one's mind stronger and immune to fear-thoughts. Identifying one's fear is the first step and then facing it gradually is how one could overcome fear permanently. So, if you afraid of public speaking, start talking to a group of two informally, then with a group of three people. And then increase it to ten and more. You wouldn't even know when you got rid of your fear.

Fear actually is not all that bad because it is our natural biological response to the situations that may endanger life. If it were not there, we would be far more inclined to put others and ourselves in danger. But excess of everything is bad; so when fear is excessive, it becomes a disability.

Lower back pain has emerged as one of the commonest ailments across the globe. So great is the number of people affected by it that, it is said to be the reason for more sick leaves than any other physical problem.

Back pain can either be acute or chronic. Acute back pain is the one that hits you in a flash and is highly painful but does not last for very long. In other words, it hits hard but stays for a short while. Chronic back pain is hard and persists for a much longer duration. Both the kinds are equally capable of throwing away your life routine out of gear.

The acute lower back pain is normally a result of some kind of injury. For instance you might injure your back in the process of lifting a heavy object carelessly. A fall may also be injurious and so can be an accident. So, acute lower back pain occurs for a reason and the reason is very much visible. However, the same is not the case with chronic lower back pain.

Chronic lower back pain can occur for a number of reasons and the causes are not so visible. The causes can be many, ranging from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis to disc degeneration and disc herniation. And these conditions can be diagnosed only after a series of tests and scans.

So far as the treatment is concerned, it depends very much on the cause of it. Fortunately, nearly all kinds of lower back pain, whatever their cause be, are treated without resorting to surgery in most of the cases.

So, the treatment is very much available but lower back pain can be dealt with much before it actually occurs. All it takes is disciplined living. Just keep your posture right and start exercising regularly. Back stretching exercises are particularly helpful in preventing lower back pain. The exercises to strengthen core abdomen muscles help a great deal in making your back strong enough to bear minor jerks and sprains with ease. Regular exercising increase the flexibility of muscles, which makes them less prone to injury.

Therefore, if you are suffering from lower back pain, pay attention to your posture and make exercise a part of your routine. Back pain would soon be a part of forgettable history.

Hypertension is a very common problem that people are suffering from today. It is predominantly a lifestyle disorder that sometimes becomes difficult to fight against. But then, there is nothing much to worry about. There are many natural treatments that help in lowering high blood pressure. Of them the best and the most effective is the use of garlic. Many people are still unaware of this fact but garlic has considerable positive effects in reducing hypertension.

Garlic belongs to the family of vegetables that is known to have an impeccable effect on the whole cardiovascular system. But the effects are only visible when they are made a part of your daily diet. Garlic shows more immediate effects on people who suffer from mild form of hypertension.

Studies over the time have shown the therapeutic working of garlic over high blood pressure. It has been shown that garlic works in the direction of maintaining normal blood pressure by reducing the spasms occurring in the veins that carry blood. The various elements present in garlic also work positively by bringing down the pulse rate of the heart to moderate levels. These elements are known as alliin, allicin and allinase.

Besides, a positive effect on the heart and the related organs, it also has positive effect on the stomach, as it keeps the digestive tract in a healthy state. Thus, garlic is not only used in healing heart-related disorders but also for curing other problems like inflammation and several infections.

Moreover, consumption of fresh garlic cloves has far better results than consuming them in cooked form in the food or in dried form. This is because, the active elements present in garlic get destroyed when heated or dried. Moreover, if you are unable to consume fresh garlic cloves, you can also take it in the form of supplements, which are available in the form of capsules. But, a note of caution here. You should always take garlic supplements under the medical supervision of a good doctor. As much intake of garlic can start thinning blood.

Nevertheless, to fasten your hypertension healing process you can supplement your garlic-therapy with a good and regular exercising regime. Also a comprehensive healthy diet plan can add more inertia in treating your high blood pressure.

Acne is such a common problem that as many as ninety percent of people are said to experience acne problem at some stage of their lives. Some of them suffer from mild acne while in some cases acne gets very serious and turn into severe acne.

Now, there is no dearth of acne medicine in the market. You just have to go out to the chemist and you would find a number of medicines available for you to choose from. Many people indulge in self medication and find it very convenient to shop for the medicines on their own without paying due importance to medical advice. This is a very dangerous course to follow. It needs to be clearly understood that self-medication can do little good to one. It may make things worse, instead.

If your acne problem is mild or moderate, you would probably not need medicinal treatment and a little bit of precaution combined with healthy diet would do the trick. In such cases all you need to do is increase the intake of water, fruits and vegetables. Avoid eating fried food and resist the tendency to eat fast food as best as you could. It would not only prevent acne from worsening but would also help the body cure the problem on its own.

However, the same does not go for severe acne problem, which means that if your pimples are infected or filled with pus, proper medical treatment may be required. Normally, the medicines prescribed for external application work well. But in certain extreme cases, therapeutic injections or surgery may also be needed.

Conventionally, acne treatment involves medications like minocycline, tetracycline and doxycycline. These medicines together with other antibiotics do away with the microorganism that worsens the acne problem. Oral antibiotics are normally prescribed in severe acne problems only.

It is up to you to decide which acne treatment you want to go for. However, irrespective of the treatment you opt for, ensure that you keep your skin clean and take every possible step to prevent infection. If the problem seems to be worsening, do consult a dermatologist. Let a specialist prescribe the medicine for you according to the severity of your problem.

There is a phase in everybody's life when one does not feel nice about many things or anything, and for no particular reason. If it is a short period, there is nothing to worry about, but if it stretches too long it could be depression. This kind of depression is some times disabling. When the patient is considered as a disabled person, s/he is also eligible for social security benefits.

    But, how to treat depression?

This condition can be diagnosed by a psychiatrist. He can help you overcome the condition. However, in this case no help is better than self-help. Besides, no amount of help from anyone can actually work without your own effort.

Depression is found to be very common among Americans, as around 9.5 percent of the population in the United States suffers from the problem. The worst part is that people suffering from depression normally do not get themselves treated, which, in turn, makes this disease worse. For a layman, cheering up someone may look like a very easy task, but when it comes to someone suffering from depression, it is an uphill task.

For one who is suffering from chronic depression, it is necessary to visit a cognitive behavioral therapist and to take the medicines as and when prescribed by him. No doubt the treatment for depression often comes with a heavy expense but that is nothing compared to the pain borne by the patient.

Often considered as a mild problem, depression can sometimes even lead to suicide. It also affects the normal day-to-day activities of a person and the person starts loosing his self-confidence and begins keeping himself or herself secluded.

There are different symptoms of depression which include gradual loss of interest in something that the patient used to enjoy a lot, getting sleep disorders, becoming unfriendly, preferring isolation or talking about deaths. The list of symptoms is endless. And if such symptoms are noticed in someone, it is important that the person is rushed to the psychiatrist at the earliest so that the progression of depression could be checked in time.

Depression not only affects the patient but also the near and dear ones of him, as they feel helpless in doing anything for the patient. After spending some time with the patient, even the relatives start feeling completely out of sync with the patient.

The best way to deal with depression is to face it full and square. Normally, cognitive negative reinforcement therapists prefer cognitive behavioral talk or interpersonal talk with the patient as they are considered to be among the best methods. Efforts have to be made to make the patient realize that depression is nothing but a state of mind and he or she can get rid of it by trying to be happy.

Medications do help but nothing helps better than the patient's determination to fight depression. The moment he or she realizes that the cure lies in believing and fighting back, half the battle is won.

Acne is not just painful but also makes one look very dull. This is the reason why one's self image takes a dive during the outbreak of acne. And if you have an important wedding or a party round the corner nothing can be more frustrating than not being able to look one's best.

There was a time the women thought acne was a problem that teenagers had to come to terms with. It is no longer the case because now we all know anyone can suffer from an acne outbreak irrespective of age and sex. The statistics available now reveal that as much as 20% women suffer from acne on and off for their entire lives. And in some cases the first outbreak of acne occurred when the lady was in her 30s or 40s.

However, if the bad news is that acne can hit you at any stage of your life, the good news is that it can be hidden by proper make up.

The first thing is exfoliation. Proper exfoliation ensures that the effect of the make up is highlighted and also prevents further acne breakouts. So, wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Now, put a warm mask on with alpha hydroxy in order to ensure that the exfoliation is proper and effective.

Use a moisturizer that inhibits oil so that you could wear the make up all day long without looking shiny in the face. It would not only keep unwanted shine away but would also give you the classy matte appearance. In case the redness caused by acne is too pronounced, an oil-free concealer would be of great help.

Now, choosing the right foundation could be difficult because there are several different kinds of them available in the market. All you have to do is avoid those that are too heavy or have too much of oil content because such kind may worsen your acne problem. Oil based foundations are the best ones for you. Select one that matches your skin.

Before applying make up make sure that you wash your hands properly to avoid infection. When the day ends do not forget to remove the make up and wash your face thoroughly. Moisten some cotton with astringent and run across your face so as to remove the remnants of make up. The residue of make up can clog the pores, cause irritation and may result in an acne outbreak.

If you take care of these few things, your acne would not come in the way of your looking your best.

It is a common belief that you can do nothing much to cure back pain but you ought to live with it. You live by taking medications and relieving yourself. Well, this is too conservative a thought!

The fact is, you can successfully escape from the sufferings of back pain. All you need to do is to be a little more observant about your body and look in for any deviating symptoms that tell you that you are about to encounter back pain. The best part about back pain is that it is not a very big problem that needs all your concern. Just a little caution and attention from your side can prevent and even cure it effectively.

Every disease comes with several warnings to you. These are called its symptoms. The same is true with back pain. Before giving you pain and discomfort, it comes up with various signs that will ask you to take some action. An important thing to note here is that, there are only a few symptoms on the arrival of which you need to consult a good medical practitioner. Most of the symptoms are such, which you can deal yourself comfortably.

When you feel that your back pain has lasted longer than a normal time period, ie, more than two-three weeks, you definitely need the advice of a good physician. Persistent pain is definitly a warning sign for an urgent medical attention. Besides this, if you feel intense pain in your lower back which extends up to your legs, this implicates a compression of a nerve. If not taken care of in time, the pain can aggravate and can act as a hurdle in your locomotion and performance of day-to-day activities.

A common disease associated with back pain is Spondylolsthesis. This occurs when one of the spinal vertebrates in your back slips from the normal position. This slipping leads to acute pain in the back that sometimes becomes unbearable.

Some of the common symptoms pertaining to back pain are numbness and weakness in the legs. While you are sitting for long in a particular posture, numbness can generally be felt. It can even be felt in the legs while you are walking or running for long. This is a condition that occurs in cases related to Spinal Stenosis. In this disorder, the spinal cord of a person narrows down which leads extra pressure on the legs. This generates pain in the back. Besides this, pain in the buttocks, presence of tight muscles in your lower limbs, sensation of tingling are also the symptoms of back pain.
