When people think about NFL players, all they usually think about is the fame and fortune-filled lives that they will live. But what about the personal sacrifices that a player must make as soon as he signs that high-dollar contract?

Two major sacrifices are family and friends. The NFL players must travel a great deal of the time, leaving behind their family and friends. This can cause friendships to end, fast. One reason for this is because no matter what people say, someone is always going to be envious of a professional football player's lifestyle. The money, the fame, the women, etc., is more plentiful than what the average person has. This can cause a lot of animosity and resentment, as well as the 'friend' no longer wanting to have a relationship with the NFL player.

Some so-called friends will even choose to remain friends with the NFL players, but with one ulterior motive: Asking for and expecting handouts on a regular basis. They may feel that because they're friends with this now-rich person that they are somehow entitled to receive some of the money. And as soon as the cash stops flowing, when the football professional wises up, the phony friend rapidly disappears.

There will undoubtedly be some genuine people who wish to remain friends with the NFL player. These friends, however, will usually drift away from their professional football friends because of the simple fact that the player just doesn't have enough time to devote to friends.

When making the decision to become an NFL player, the person must also consider his family, especially if he's married. He will be separated from his family on regular basis, which could cause numerous problems, many possibly leading to divorce. The pro ball player will have all sorts of temptations from beautiful women, throwing themselves at him just because he's famous. This may be difficult for some men to resist, resulting in him breaking his marriage vows. The wife may also be tempted to stray because of loneliness. This is why when a young person is presented with an inviting football contract, they must think about all aspects of the career and its expectations, and not just the money and recognition.

Most professional football players live happy and prosperous lives, but they just need to remember where their priorities are before they even decide to sign that life-altering contract.

Article Title: The Probability Of Super Bowl Sunday Becoming A National Holiday

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

There has been some discussion about Super Bowl Sunday becoming a national holiday, allowing the following Monday to be a day off work for most people. For all the football fanatics, this new 'holiday' would be great. It would give the fans the opportunity to overindulge in all the junk food and beer that they wanted, without having to go to work the next day under the weather from a major hangover. It would also lower the massive amount of post Super Bowl Sunday call-ins. In addition, it would keep the people who do decide to go to work the next day despite being ill to at home and let their hangovers wear off.

There are websites, chat rooms and petitions created exclusively for allowing Super Bowl Sunday to become a national holiday. Actually, they refer to the proposed holiday as Super Bowl Monday or National Football Day. One website's goal is to have the holiday voted in and celebrated for the first time by January of 2010. Some people who celebrate super bowl Sunday aren't even football fans. They simply enjoy the idea of getting together with family and friends to be part of all the excitement.

The politicians who would be responsible for approving or denying Super Bowl Sunday becoming a national holiday may not think that it's such a good idea. They may feel that if they were to approve it and allow this major sports event to become a holiday then fans of all other sports would expect the same thing. Imagine having all these new holidays, all related to different types of sports: Football, Baseball, Golf, Hockey, Basketball, etc.

So, no matter how it saddens major NFL fans, the probability of Super Bowl Sunday becoming a national Sunday is pretty slim. This doesn't mean that the day can't continue to be celebrated the way it always has been, because it's a big day, not only for fanatics, but for advertisers to make money as well. Fans just need to be more responsible when it comes to drinking loads of beer and eating pizza until they feel they're going to regurgitate. They should try to limit the amount of alcoholic beverages and junk food that they consume so that they will be able to function better at work the next day.

A home based business opportunity seeker is likely to become quickly overwhelmed when searching for an opportunity online. It is only natural for a person to start looking for a home based business opportunity online since the internet is such a great marketplace. It can really help, though, for a home based business opportunity seeker to be prepared before they start their search.

There are a wide range of websites that are tailored to people working from home or seeking a home based business opportunity. These websites can provide great leads, lots of information and most even have message boards where people who work at home or who are wanting to work at home can chat and help each other out.

One thing a home based business opportunity seeker needs to know about these types of websites is that going to them and simply asking for help instead of exploring the information available sa quick way to end up being shunned. These people that frequent these websites are tired of having people come in and expect to get all the answers without doing any work themselves.

Most of the people that frequent these websites have been around for quite some time, which makes them great sources of information. However, it also means that it is likely when they got started working at home that there weren't resources like this and they had to work to get there they are. That is part of the reason why they resent people expecting a hand out. Another reason is they get bombarded with the same questions over and over.

Most of these types of websites have clearly written guides or files that will explain everything a person needs to know. So, the bottom line is before jumping into one of these websites and asking for help, look around and try to find the information yourself.

Work at home type websites can be one of the greatest tools for the home based business opportunity seeker. They can network and learn a lot at these websites. They can find the opportunity that they've always dreamed of and become rather successful. However, they have to respect the rules and even the unwritten code of conduct. The home based business world is one of doing for yourself and being independent. It is not about people holding your hand and guiding you every step of the way.

A home based business opportunity seeker should defiantly start with these work at home type websites. They have some of the best and most respected information available online. They make finding what you need simple. When a person needs help they can call upon the community and they will gladly help out, but asking for help should not be the first thing a person does if they want to get stared on the right foot. These types of websites often become like the office environment for a person who works at home and can be a great place to make lasting friendships and build up your business.

What once used to be a small network of people has really started to grow thanks to the convenience and availability of the internet. The home business world is now something open to everyone with a home computer and internet access. A home business opportunity is to be found almost everywhere you look online. The internet has changed small business from something for an elite few to a mass appeal for everyone.

The internet allows for a marketplace that never closes and can reach more people than any other marketplace previously could. Businesses online can be selling literally, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They can sell to people all over the world. This makes for a unique home business opportunity.

Another great aspect of the internet marketplace is that setting up a business is quite easy. No longer does a business owner need to get a physical storefront. All the business owner needs is a website. With all the free tools and cheap web hosting options this makes setting up an online shop easy.

A home business opportunity is available for almost every niche. Home business opportunities online are a dime a dozen. There are so many that have come from the idea of taking advantage of the many things the internet has to offer.

A good example of a home business opportunity that has exploded in the online marketplace is the affiliate program. Affiliate programs are basically a home business opportunity that allow sa person to start up a business selling products for another company for a commission. The business itself is usually already set up, with a website and automated order system. All the business owner really has to do is market their storefront to sell products.

The biggest challenge of an online home business opportunity is the marketing. Since the internet is so large and there is so much traffic it is hard to get visitors to a website. If a website has no visitors then they have no business. Internet business is all about driving traffic to a website and that is going to be the main key to success.

The internets impact on small business has been significant. Many people who could have only dreamed of being a business owner now have the opportunity to do so. A home business opportunity is now something that is easily taken advantage of. People all over the world are seeing the benefits of doing business online, from their own home. They are taking every chance to seize the opportunity and run their own home business. The internet provides the greatest market place with tons of prospective customers. The only thing is managing a marketing plan to make a home business opportunity successful.

The key to building an internet home business is getting to understand the internet business world. This requires a lot of leg work, but it really is the only way to ensure success. Going into an internet home business without knowing about the internet business environment is not a smart move and will likely end in failure.

One reason that research is so important is that the internet marketplace is a whole different world than the traditional marketplace. Additionally, the technical aspects of the internet can really be complex. These two things alone can mean disaster for a business owner who is unfamiliar with them.

A business owner needs to start with getting familiar with the internet in general. It is a good thing to learn how to conduct searches, use email and download programs. They should also look into websites. They will need to know how to build a website and get it online. They should learn about automation tools and other business tools that will help their business operate online.

Once they have built up this general knowledge they should start looking into the industry they are going to be working in. They should approach other business owners in the industry and try to build a friendship. They can discuss the problems with internet sales or other things that may be helpful with these new associates.

The business owner also needs to do a lot of research into internet marketing. Marketing in internet business is essential. It is not easy and, in fact, is the reason many businesses fail online. It is wise to read as much on the subject as possible.

Building an internet home business is a process that starts with research. It is going to take time and plenty of dedication, but it will be well worth it when the business turns out a raving success.

Home businesses come in many different shapes, sizes and forms. These types of businesses provide individuals with an alternative to the office job setting and provide various freedoms to the business owners as well. In fact, there are five often-cited ways in which a home business can make one's life easier overall.

    Child Care Issues

Perhaps one of the most often cited features of a home business which can make one's life easier is that by owning a home business, individuals are able to work while staying at home with their children. This makes the need for daily child care a nonexistent factor. Although some individuals who work from home still opt for putting their kids in daycare, having a home business does make doing without child care a possibility.

    Transportation Issues

Another way which home businesses can make a business owner's life that much easier relates to transportation issues. When owning a home business, one can conduct their daily business affairs from the convenience of their home office. This gets rid of the need for commuting to an office each day and putting mileage on the car, not to mention paying costly gas bills. It is also a time saver with regard to not having to commute to and from work which is also a highly regarded trait of owning a home business.

    Tax Deductions

One who has a home business is also able to reap the benefits of multiple tax deductions and incentives which may be available to them. Using a home office enables a business owner to save money in the long run by seeing deductions on their annual tax returns. Although this only happens once a year, the rewards are often quite good for home business owners who operate their business out of their home office.

    Being Your Own Boss

An additional incentive for home business owners is that they are their own boss. This is a wonderful thing to consider. No more bossy employers enforcing strict, unyielding schedules. Being your own boss is a sure way to make one's life easier. One can work when they want to, take a break if they like and pursue their occupation in the manner which they see fit.

    Reduce Overhead This Way

Lastly, an individual who runs a business out of their home will often find that their life is made easier by saving themselves money in the end. As opposed to those individuals who own businesses which are run out of separate offices, home business owners will see large reductions in overhead. Making use of the home as a workspace is a great way to make life easier on the individual and their wallet.

From a website owner's point of view, affiliate marketing programs can add to your income as well as improve your credibility among your visitors. Signing up for affiliate programs should involve as much thought as the types of information you offer on your site, whether you sell products or services or simply have a blog site.

For example, if you have a person blog concerning dogs or cats and you place affiliate links for a pet products company on your blog, you are more likely to earn sales commissions than of your blog site promotes vitamin sales. The products offered by affiliate companies should be related to the primary focus of your site.

With the number of affiliate marketing programs available, there is no doubt you can find an appropriate site with which to be affiliated. You will want to know ahead of time the commission structure and when payments can be expected to avoid disappointment in the future. Most companies will also keep you informed of any program changes, which would include changes to commission structure or other payment options that may affect your continued affiliation with them.

When you are working with companies as an affiliate, simply placing their link on your page does not end your involvement. Many offer seasonal merchandise or services and keeping your links up to date can make your website more credible to your visitors. If someone visits your site in March or April and you are still promoting free Christmas delivery, many will believe your site is outdated and may ignore your other links.

Many times companies will have sales offering coupons you can place on your site as links, but you need to constantly monitor the coupons for going out of date or for offering products or services that maybe you do not want to promote on your site. For example, if the focus of your site is for children's education, you may not want to promote an adult oriented site or a gambling site. This can happen when some of the smaller sites lose their domain name and another company picks it up and promotes products other than what you were used to seeing.

It has happened where a company will go out of business and their name is bought by a gambling or a dating site and all links to that name now are pointed at the new site. If you are not keeping track of your affiliated sites you could unknowingly be promoting a site that goes against your primary business focus.

If you are going through an affiliate marketing corporation that manages the programs for many companies and one goes out of business, the links on your page will typically disappear. However, if you are affiliated with a company and their own program that goes out of business, the link may remain but will give your visitors an error message. Another indication that your site may be out of date.

You do not have to wander around town looking for real estate to get into business for yourself. You can always start an internet business, provided you can offer a viable product or service, or take advantage of opening one of many available franchises. Your abilities, desire and financial resources can help determine the type of business and how long it may take to get it started.

When considering starting an internet business you need to determine the type of business you want to be involved with. You have the choice of selling products or services as well as whether you want to sell your own product line or someone else's. The same can be true for service-related businesses. There are several companies offering services that you can resell and make a profit and if you find any of them useful, you may want to be involved.

You can also choose to sell a combination or products and services to take advantage of different aspects of the online shopping venture. While niche marketing and focusing on one product line has proven successful, so has being able to take advantage of different needs for different customer bases. Niche markets are more focused while a product mix reaches more of your targeted audience. You can also offer backend products, such as printer paper and ink to go with printers.

Working capital is a serious consideration in starting any internet business and probably the biggest expense will involve marketing your business. A good business plan can help you determine your target audience, which in turn will help determine where you will focus your marketing. This plan should be part of the overall business plan as without a specific market to target, you could end up simply throwing money into the wind and hoping it falls where it will do the most good.

Sustaining growth is another planning process and depending on your product line can be a viable exercise. Every business that sells merchandise should plan to offer products that are considered disposable. Items that customers will need to replenish or replace when used to gain the possibility of repeat business. Some businesses, such as home mortgages, are only able to sell to the same customer once, or maybe twice so they are constantly on the lookout for ways of generating more customers.

A business offering disposable items do not have to continually focus on new customers, rather good customer service and quality products can provide continued growth based on repeat shopping by the same customers. For example, if you sell digital cameras, it may be years between sales to the same customer. However, you can bolster your sales by also offering memory cards and printing services or supplies to bring in additional sales to existing customers.

There are so many home business opportunities available that it could be hard to choose one. Depending on how much work you want to get involved with, there are several home business opportunities related to the internet that can help provide income streams while most of the work is performed in the comfort of your own home.

Many seek out home business opportunities, looking for a way to avoid the morning and afternoon transit to a job. Being able to work your own hours and establishing your own dress code are also attractive alternatives to working in someone else's office.

The problem faced by internet neophytes is their belief in anything that sounds too good to be true. They may believe that everything on the internet is accurate and everyone saying they can make big money quick must be telling the truth. Any home business opportunity may be able to make you money if you follow their program exactly, but most times following the program exactly will cost more money than you may be willing, or capable, of spending.

Advertising and marketing cost money. There is no question that for any business to be successful those are two necessary expenditures that a company must plan for if they hope to grow. Actually, just surviving will require a certain amount of advertising to realize enough business to keep them afloat.

Look carefully at every offer for home business opportunities and, hidden as they may be, there will be clues as to its honestly. When a site claims that you can start making money within an hour of signing up, it is not telling the truth. Is it possible? Only by accident. Is it probable? You may have a better chance winning the lottery with a losing ticket.

There is money to be made on the internet, but many home business opportunities fail to mention that you will need to market your site to gain visitors. You see, visitors are those pesky critters that may attack one site and ignore another. Without visitors, however no web site will last. Visitors determine your sales, which determines your profit, which determines your future.

Home business opportunities involving internet marketing, provided you know how this advertising method works, you could make decent money with this type business. Since websites are hoping to make money from website sales, targeting the web surfers is only logical. Although, attracting potential customers with off line ads can add to the customer base, allowing for a bigger cut of the market share.

When you have decided on a home business opportunity, you should be prepared to spend the time and effort needed to bring your business out of infancy. Make a budget of time and money, promising to spend only to the limit and no more, and give yourself so many months to grow the business to profitability or find another way to make a living.

There is nothing like the feeling of extra cash in your pocket and not many people would turn down the opportunity to earn extra income from home. When you can bring in extra cash without having the expense of traveling to a second job and still be able to spend time with your family, it makes the extra money even more special.

Especially around the holidays people are always looking for extra money but are reluctant to find part time employment out of the house. Finding ways to earn extra income from home can be both challenging and fun, depending on how you decide to approach the venture. Many may decide to try earning money online by starting their own website or through online auctions. Others will use their handiwork and attempt to sell homemade crafts either online, at auction or in craft malls that rents space to artisans.

Online auctions are proving to be a successful method to earn extra income from home and you can start with your basement, garage or closets. There may be a lot of items that you no longer have a use for and instead of throwing it away, you can list these items on auction sites and attempt to sell them. Not everything you find will be worth something to someone else. The best way to find out if there is any interest to your stuff is to search for on the auction site and, if found, determine if anyone is bidding on it and how much others are willing to pay.

By researching your items you can determined the right starting bid as well as learn how to write a description that will make people want to bid on the item. Many list only a picture, a title and a short description, which is not going to gain anyone's attention. The more detail you can give about an item the more of a chance you have of creating a sale. Also, make sure you specify who will pay shipping costs on the item and make sure you know what it is up front so potential buyers are not surprised at a high postage rate.

Once you have cleared your inventory of items you have sitting around your house you can consider visiting local garage sales and flea markets and look for other used items that buyers on online auctions may find of interest. Small local auctions and estate auctions are another source of merchandise that can allow you to earn extra income from home.

Caution must be exercised not to get caught up in the process where winning the auction is more important than what you pay for an item. If you are looking to make money from home, there will be times when you will have to show restraint and let someone else have the winning bid.

You have probably spent a lot of time thinking of ways you can earn money from home while the baby is growing up, or the spouse is recovering or you recently lost your job. The decision to stay at home can be a tough one and it will take time to determine the best and consistent means to earn money from home before you completely commit to the idea.

It many areas of the country it is a tight job market and with specific, in-demand skills a lot of workers are finding themselves with few prospects. This often sparks the decision to try to earn money from home and, unfortunately, also can lead to making desperate decisions that may not allow you to make the most of your situation. Many companies prey on desperate job hunters and take their money when they do not have the cash to give up.

Searching for the right opportunity takes time and effort and a willingness not to let that voice of reason get lost in the chatter of lofty promises. Deciding to start your own business at home is a decision that not only affects you, it affects your family as well as your bill collectors. If you do not make money, they will not care that you had to pay extra for additional training and may not be long before you do not have electric to keep the computer up and running.

Look objectively at your skills and before you send money to join a million dollars a month opportunity that requires no education or specialized training, ask yourself what you will be doing to earn that kind of cash and who is willing to pay it. The two answers are usually nothing and no one and that should tell you where your cash is going. One of the most lucrative means of making money online is scamming others into sending you cash and when the voice of reason is silenced, the scammer's voice is often heard loud and clear.

Assembling products at home can be a good way to make money as long as you are associated with a legitimate company. Those making the offer requiring you buy specialized tools and parts in order to assemble the product are only selling the tools and the parts. There is a 100 percent chance that no matter how well your products are assembled the company will reject them for quality reasons, typically not being up to their standards.

There are, however many companies who will pay a third party to perform assembly work for them offsite, and depending on the product they may even want to inspect your facilities to insure they are not wasting their time with someone who can produce a few a week when they may need thousands.

Shrink is a part of the business no one likes to talk about. However, shrink plays a huge part in every retailer's business. Shrink can take many forms, but here are the four most common. They are employee theft, shoplifting, vendor theft and paperwork errors.

Many small retailers only worry about shoplifting, but the other three accounts for about 2/3 of all shrink. We will discuss steps to help reduce your shrink.

Employee theft accounts for almost half of all shrink. Many business owners refuse to consider their employees could be stealing from them. Employee theft can take many forms such as taking cash/ merchandise, passing merchandise, and giving unauthorized discounts to name a few.

The key to controlling employee theft is to reduce the opportunity to steal. You should explain clearly to your employees if they are dishonest what the consequences will be. Here are a few suggestions.

    1. You must keep the back door controlled. If it is unlocked, it is easy for employees to put merchandise outside. They could have friends or family pick it up. Also, the employee could hide the merchandise in the trash to recover after work.

    2. You need to do regular inventories of high theft items.

    3. You need to show up unannounced. This is especially true if you have many younger employees. They are much more likely to be involved with theft.

    4. You should have your store be mystery shopped. This can see how your service is plus spot potential employee theft issues. It could be done by someone you know or through a company that specializes in mystery shops.

    5. Make sure all employees give receipts. You could offer the customer something free such as $5, if the employee does not give a receipt. This makes it harder for an employee just to pocket the money. If your register keeps track of no sales, this could be a clue of a problem. Excessive no sales are either an education issue or a theft issue.

    6. You should do unannounced cash counts. Vary the times and check the register total against what you are supposed to have. Also, see if you noticed anything unusual near the register area or inside the till. This could include employees have a paper with a bunch of numbers, coins or some other object in an unusual place, or part of the money unorganized.

    7. You need to explain your policies to all employees' especially new hires. You should mention that you trust all of your employees, but you have safeguards in place to protect the store assets. It would be a good suggestion to mention just a couple to let the employees know you are serious about protecting the store assets.

    8. Employee's bags and purses should be checked when leaving. Management should show their bags or purse to another employee.

    9. You must have policies in place for ringing up of family or friends. Also, your discount policy needs to be clear to all employees. The most common theft is passing merchandise to family or friends or giving unauthorized discounts. For example, your $20 item may be sold for a $1. If you have a way employees can change the price of an item, you must have someway to at least spot check for potential problems.

    10. You could have a tips hot line for employees to report potential shrink. Yes, on many occasions it would be used to report bogus claims about other employees. However, if work correctly, the valid claims could save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

    11. Keep an eye on customers who are just hanging around employees. Also, if certain customers only seek certain employees could be a sign also.

    12. You need to track your employee purchases. Very few purchases or excessive could be potential trouble spots with employee theft. If they never buy, it could be they are just taking merchandise. If they are buying a lot, where is the money coming from?

    Shoplifting

    1. You should greet every customer. It is great for customer service. Also, shoplifters do not want to be noticed.

    2. Put high theft items where they are easier to watch.

    3. Look for customers splitting up and one trying to keep you busy.

    4. Keep your store neat and organized. Shoplifters like to leave empty packages in unorganized areas.

    5. If the customer is watching the employees more than shopping.

    6. Shoplifters like to go to blind spots. You may want to install some mirrors to make it easier to see the entire store.

    7. Have signs made that shoplifters will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. If you have the reputation of being soft on shoplifting, you will always have a major problem.

    8. Look for nervous shoppers.

    9. If shoppers come in your store often and seldom buy anything. Most shoplifters do buy a few items and just help themselves to others.

    Vendor Theft

    1. Check all orders for shortages. It is best a good employee or management be responsible for this.

    2. Make vendors break down boxes before leaving the store.

    3. Don't hand a signed invoice to the vendor until they are done. This will help with the previous two suggestions.

Excessive shrink can cause your business to fail. Shrink cannot be eliminated, but it can be reduced. Following our suggestions is a good way to ensure that you take more money to the bank than your employees, shoppers or vendors.

High Impact Promotional Sales can do many great things for your business. They can create fantastic cash flow, move old inventory, give great customer perception about your retail store and increased your sales and profitability long-term. The key to having a high impact promotional sale is to be priced right and to create curiosity and excitement.

First, it is best to price as much merchandise as possible. The more you price, the better your sales will be. Let the customers see the regular price and the sale price. Here a few tips for a high impact promotional sale.

The best time to run is before one of your peak periods. For example, you can have a sale in November until Thanksgiving. You should have the high impact sale for at least 3 weeks and 4 or 5 could be even better depending how much old inventory you have. You should have at least one high impact sale a year, but may want to consider 2 per year. This is addition to any regular sales you currently run in your retail store.

Everything on the store should be on sale. If you are at keystone, the minimum discount should be 10% off. Here is a suggested breakdown of ad prices:

10% off - Should be about 10-15 % of the store

20% off - Should be about 70-80 % of the store

50% off - Should be about 10-15% of the store

Your best-sellers should be 10% off. You should run 2-3 items for added discounts during the promotion for one week at a time. Normally, I would take some of the 20% off items and run them half off.

Normally, taking discounts of 30-40% do not produce more in sales. That is why; the discounts go from 20-50% off. Also, if you make signs, studies have shown that ½ off sells better than 50% off. If you had some old items or slightly damaged, you might want to consider 75% off regular retail. Most likely, you will be losing money, but the benefit is turning dead inventory to cash. With this cash, you can buy better selling items. The key to running a retail store is turning the merchandise.

If your products have a lower gross margin than keystone, you need to makes some adjustments to the discount amounts, but try to have most of your items still at 20% off. You may want to use a lower discount, but if you dilute it too much, the promotional sale will not be effective. Too many retail owners get hung up with gross profit percents than gross profit dollars. The purpose of having this sale before a peak period is to gain new customers for your peak period.

What is the best time to start this sale? I would say for most stores, it is Tuesday. Many stores can use Sunday & Monday for pricing. Many stores are closed Sunday anyway, but there is no way, you are going to give up a day's business. If you stay open trying to price on Monday, it will never get done. Many customers on Monday will come back for the sale and will spend much more than originally planned.

I would price all the 10% and half off merchandise first. In case, you do not get finished, you can have signs and tell the customers anything not priced is 20% off regular retail. Make sure you signed anything that is marked half off and would be wise to have a display of something right near the entrance. You want the customer's to get a perception of great pricing. Also, do not put signs on merchandise that is 10% off unless, it is a high ticket item showing regular and sale price.

How do you advertise this sale? I would either have a banner in front of your store or several signs that say" Everything on Sale". You would be able to reuse these for future sales also. Even though it's gaudy, colors such as Hot Pink can be seen far away and drive curiosity. You could place an ad in the local paper Monday and have radio advertising Monday. Also, send a direct mailing to your store mailing list on Saturday. Basically, tell them everything is on sale for a limited time and when the sale starts.

High impact promotional sales ran correctly can help a struggling business or create cash for the busy season ahead. Go ahead and have a high impact promotional sale, you may be surprised with the results.

Most independent pet stores in the United States don't offer services to their customers. These services could include grooming, dog training, aquarium maintenance (personal / commercial), and delivery to name a few. Besides delivery, the other services can produce a high gross profit margin for your pet store. The large pet stores in the US know how profitable pet services are to their bottom line.

Grooming can be expensive to initially set up and takes lot of space; if dogs are placed in cages after they are groomed. You could reduce the cost by offering to do a few dogs or better yet at the home where the dog stays. If you groom dogs at their residence, you could offered to delivered any products needed for the canine.

Training is profitable. You need space set aside for training. This space can be used for special events to make the most of this valuable real estate.

A pet store owner that I know would make more money with aquarium maintenance with commercial accounts than profit from the rest of the store. He would spend one day a week just doing this. This day happen to be a slow day for his pet store.

Having home delivery will help with large items such as large aquariums, large doghouses, and stands for large aquariums. Many people would prefer someone else handle this. This is mainly due to reduce the risk of damage or don't have access to a large car / truck.

Having services in your pet store can be a huge profit maker. It is also a competitive advantage against much of your competition. In fact, this is one of the best ways to compete against the Petsmart & Petco's of the world. If you are not providing services to your pet store customers, you are leaving plenty of sales and profits on the table.

Making your customers smarter will help them and your store. Educated customers are more likely to make a purchase in your pet store. Yes, a few customers may pick your brains and then make purchases with the competition. However, in the long-term you will pick up many more new customers leading to a more profitable pet store. Educated customers are more likely to buy extra accessories for their favorite pet.

By talking to your customers, using tip sheets and informational demonstrations will increased the knowledge of your customers. This knowledge will help the customer make better purchases for their pet leading to a higher satisfaction for your pet store.

Having a lack of knowledge can hurt sales. For example, I was shopping a store and visited the pet section. I was laughing hard after looking at a sign on a lizard cage. At first glance, it appeared to call it a "Dork Lizard". After further review, it was called a "Dark Lizard". Actually, it was a "Fence Swift", but there was no one around for me to let them know. I would not ask advice of anything in this pet section since I saw the lack of information with the lizard. Their credibility is gone and would be hard to ever regain. Information they give might kill your new pet.

Educating customers makes you an authority and is a soft sell. Many people don't want a hard sell and will avoid those places of business. Giving valuable information builds a relationship and trust in a non threatening way.

Hopefully, you can see the value of educating customers and how it will affect your business long-term. It is a way to make your pet store stand out from your competition. Educated customers will likely buy more because they want the best for their pet. With a hard sell, they may think you just are trying to sell them products not really needed.

Every management person should be striving to constantly be looking to improve employee relations. Keep employees happy will lead to increasing productivity and morale. This should lead to increase sales.

First, you must show interest in employees. They want to be more than a body. Most employees want to feel wanted. Just knowing some things about the employees is a big plus. It could be their favorite hobbies, children and pet's names, and anything else that you can think of. Most employees want to do a great job and caring for them makes it easier for them to feel a part of the organization.

Employees need to be treated as individuals. One method does not work in managing employees. The employees want to be respected for their differences.

Managers need to respect difference of opinion with employees. Some of the best suggestions to improve a business will be from employees. They will not always agree with management's view. If possible, the manager / owner should explain to the employee the reasoning for not following their opinion. The employee may not like it, but will have respect for you if done in a professional way.

Need to be fair to all employees. This can be tough to do. However, showing outright favoritism will create numerous employee issues that are hard to resolve.

Keeping the job interesting is another important factor in improving employee relations. First, it makes time go faster. It also keeps the employees challenged. If the employees get bored, they will pay less attention to their duties. There are many ways to keep the job interesting. It could be cross training the employee or giving more responsibility.

Communicating with employees is one thing many managers could do a better job. Informed employees make better decisions. This information will lead to better customer service, morale, productivity and ultimately increased sales.

The one thing that may be the most crucial to improving employee relations is showing appreciation for a job well done. Many managers are quick to be critical of employee mistakes, but slow to give praise. About 80% of communication with an employee should be praise. Giving praise to employees in front of a group is something most employees love. The number one thing that most employees look for in a job is appreciation for a job well done.

Many managers give criticism to the employees in their office. The problem with this is that any time the employee is called to the office, they know what is coming. Make sure employees are given praise in the office or where ever they receive criticism.

When giving employees tasks, telling them thank you costs nothing when the job is done. A few seconds of time could reap rewards much greater than the time involved.

Employee issues can be tough to deal with. There are no black and white answers for many employee issues. The key is to keep employees happy while reaching the goals of the business.

How can that be? If you allow refunds, you are losing sales. The short-term answer is perhaps. The objective of every business is to increase profits for the long - term.

If you have a no refund policy, many customers will either not make a purchase or buy less merchandise. These customers are reluctant to spend their money, in case the product isn't right. Yes, they could exchange it for other merchandise. However, if you don't have what they want currently, you have their money and they have nothing.

Why are owners afraid of giving money-back? There are three main reasons and the fears are the result of short-term thinking.

    1. Owners can't stand seeing cash going out of the register. This results in fewer sales for the day.

    2. The owner worries about bogus refunds. If you have proper controls, this will seldom happen. The people taking advantage of bogus refunds concentrate on large stores.

    3. Owners are concerned with too much merchandise being returned. You could have a few customers taking advantage of this. If they are bringing back resalable product, it should not be a concern.

Most large companies have a return policy that is favorable to the customers. This encourages customers to spend more money. The customer knows unwanted merchandise can be returned. The increase in sales and profits will outweigh the risk of bogus returns with proper controls.

Just have a specific refund policy in place. For example, it could be a cash refund with the original receipt and within 30 days of the purchase. The longer the return period, the less likely you will get a return. Customers will put the merchandise aside and or lose the receipt.

Your refund policy can be a huge advantage against your small competitors. Too many owners don't take advantage of separating themselves from the other businesses. It would be a good idea to have several professional signs at least 8.5 x 11 around the store with your refund policy. Using bright color paper will make this stand out even more.

Here is an example of what to put on the sign:

    Refunds Gladly Made With Receipt

The sign behind the register area could have the full details.

You must explain and make sure all of your employees understand and follow the customer friendly refund policy. There could be some resistance to change especially with employees on commission. However, let them know long-term the refund policy will result in increase sales and commissions. If they still don't want to follow the policy, you are better-off if they worked somewhere else.

Take the first step in improving your sales and profits by improving customer service with a friendly refund policy. Take off that short-term hat and carry out polices and strategies that will benefit your store in the long-term.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

There are so many things that can prevent a retail store from being successful. We have listed 14 obstacles to retail success. Any one of these can be harmful to your retail business, but it only takes one to be fatal. They are not listed in any particular order.

    1. Selection of Products- Many retail owners select products based on what they like. The key is to pick items your customers will love. If you get input from other employees or management, it will make it easier to make better buying decisions. Also, many times the owner has a limited taste and is missing a large group of customers. Ultimately, the owner may make the final decision, but the more info presented should result in better buying for the retail business.

    2. Not Organized- Too many owners run their business without a plan. You should have short-term and long-term goals. I used to have a weekly list plus a master list of things to do. It was always subject to change. Also, take care of mail daily. I have been to stores and see mountains of mail stacked high in the store.

    3. Lack of Delegation- Too many owners refused or afraid of dele-gating. It may be they are control freaks or do not trust employees. Both are bad and will severely limit your business. By delegating to employees, it creates better employees and ones who will take more pride in your retail business. Start with delegating simple things and go from their. You will be amazed at what your employees can do.

    4. Not Thinking Outside the Box- If the owner's thinking is lim-ited, so is the chance for success. It is hard running a retail store. The key is not to follow everyone else and consider choices that will be different. Once again, your employees may be able to come up with creative solutions.

    5. Resistance to Change- Owners and employees do not like to change. They want to continue to do things business as usual. Times change and if you wait too late for change, your business may even fail from this obstacle by itself. It is so common for a retail store to doing poorly and the owner will not make major changes. This brings me to the next obstacle.

    6. Fear of Failure- Every business that tries different things will have some failures. The key is to learn from these failures to help you in the future. Too many owners just think the following. I tried something different and it did not work. Every successful person and business has failures, but they did not let it stop them from reaching their goals.

    7. Store not Unique- One of the keys is to make your store different from the rest. Over 90% of all retailers are similar. The others create a unique shopping experience. They understand that special events combined with unique items or service will have the customers saying WOW when they leave. Yes, it takes extra work, but the payoff can be huge. Special events can be low cost or even free to promote your business. There are thousands of possibilities, such as dog costumes, children storytelling, and free short informational seminars about a product or service.

    8. Service not Superior- All stores like to think their service is great. In reality, most stores fall far short. It not only takes meeting the customer's expectations, but exceeding them. For example, you could special order an item and delivered it to their house or work, if the customer does not have time to get to your store. Superior service starts with an owner's strong commitment for it to happen.

    9. Work is not Fun- Everyone has a job to do, but it can be made to be fun. Happy employees are more productive and give better customer service. Get to know your employees and think of them as a person. Humor is a great way to relieve tension and make your employees happy to work for your retail business. Hard bosses to work for have high turnover which is costly to any business.

    10. Poor Ad Merchandise or Pricing- Owners love to run sales for products that do not sell or have poor prices for better selling items. The purpose of the ad is to get customers into your store to buy products. Selling a good item at 1/2 off regular retail will result in more sales and profits for your store than selling poor merchandise at 75% off regular retail. Many customers coming into your store for ad items will purchase other products at full price.

    11. Not Aggressive with old Inventory- Inventory either makes you money or costs you money. Old inventory should be sold to create cash flow plus to clear space for good selling products. Too many owners think short-term and will not sell an item below cost. Old inventory is better liquidated at 75% off, instead of sitting on your shelf or stockroom. The cash can be used to purchase good inventory, which can more than make up for the loss of the old item. I have seen many retail stores continue to suffer, because the owner will not take the necessary markdowns for his business.

    12. Employees not Educated- Employees must be shown what to do. All employees should be educated on a consistent basis. This will result in less turnover, more productivity and more profits. Do not think educating employees is about the first day or week.

    13. Lack of Mailing List- Getting a mailing list is the best way to cut down advertising costs and increase sales. Customers on a mailing list will result in 5-10 times the sales as new visitors to your store. The best ways to get customers on your mailing list is from checks and asking them for their address to be on your store mailing list. You may have to give a small incentive to get them on your list, but is worth it.

    14. Website not Effective- A website should either sell products/ be used to get visitors e-mail addresses. The more you keep in contact with the people on your list, the credibility goes up and so do the sales. Many people do not buy the first time, they visit a website. Also, having some basic info about your store would be great also. I have seen many owners spend $2,000 or more for a website, plus a high monthly fee and not be effective. Flash can be nice, but if it takes too long to load, your website visitor is long gone. I have a website with all the bells and whistles and there were no up-front costs or contracts, less than $20 a month, and easy to do yourself. I have been able to save some of my consulting clients thousands by switching and having a more effective website leading to even more profit.

Testimonials are a powerful selling tool for all businesses especially in pet stores. If the pet store has services such as dog training, testimonials are even more powerful. New shoppers to your store are more likely to make a purchase after reading testimonials about your business. Testimonials build trust and credibility to your business.

After obtaining testimonials, they should be placed in prominent areas of the store including the entrance, checkout, and areas which have high traffic flow. Having several short testimonials is better than one long one. Keep the original testimonial by the customer and put the information on bright color paper. This will draw more attention. Laminating them or putting them in a protective folder will make it more professional and last longer. You must either add new testimonials and or move them around the store. Many customers are creatures of habits and followed the same path each time in the store.

How do you obtain the testimonials to post? There are many ways, but here is a couple to get you started. Anytime, you hear a customer make a positive statement about your pet store, ask them if they could make a short testimonial. Since, it is short they will be more likely to do so. Also, you may offer a free inexpensive gift or a discount on their next purchase to strongly encourage customers to give you a testimonial.

Another way to get a testimonial is to ask for it in a direct mail letter to your regular customers. You could offer the same incentives to increase the response from the direct mail letter.

Getting testimonials and displaying them around your store is just another way to show how your pet store is better than the competition. Every advantage that can be shown to visitors to your pet store will lead to more money into your pocket.

Being a retail consultant, there is a comment many business owners used. It is "I'm not giving away my inventory". It is most common among store owners that business is in bad shape. It is too bad that most retail owners don't understand about inventory. Inventory does two things. It eithers makes you money or costs you money.

You need to have sufficient inventory to be profitable. However, having too much inventory is a larger problem than too little inventory.

Too much inventory ties up critical cash for your business. It can also result in more damages to your merchandise. The key is to find the right price to move your merchandise. Slow moving items take up space and cash that could be used for more profitable items.

There are times you have to adjust your pricing strategy. For example, let's assume your retail price is double your cost. In this example, you pay $10 and it retails for $20. If it is a slow mover or discontinued item, what should be the new price? I would take 20% off for 1-3 months, 50% off and then 75% off. If you have to sell at 75% off, you will sell below cost. Cost should never be a factored in marking down an item.

I can hear you yelling now. I'm not giving away my inventory. You are looking at your inventory from the wrong perspective. Your product is worth what a customer will pay for it.

Using my example, let's say you sold your product at 75% off. How much did you make on that item?Your answer most likely was a loss of $5.This was based on a $10 cost and $5 retail. That answer is partially correct. The more correct answer is that you made $5.

You took an item that was producing zero and turned it into $5 cash. You can take that cash and space and use it for a profitable item. Many times a business does not have enough cash to buy the needed quantities of the best-selling products. If you take the cash from the poor sellers and use it for good sellers, you will more than make your money- back.

No matter how good a buyer you are, there will be items that don't sell. The key is to realize this and react before it ties up too much cash and profit.

An added benefit of taking care of your problem inventory is increased sales. You will get customers who will shop your store regularly looking for your markdowns. Many of them will buy your high gross items also. If you take care of your problem inventory regularly, your markdowns dollars will be less.

Inventory is critical to your business success. The key is to take action on the slow moving and discontinued. This will make your bottom line better in the long run.

There are a number of training programs available in New Jersey and it is easy to find some of the best ones around if driving by car.

If you are serious about skydiving and if you really want to get the best from your jump then a skydive training program is just what you need. Some of the best training programs in America can be found in New Jersey and they are suitable for both beginners and experts alike. The programs are essential if you want to jump on your own and throughout the program you will have a jumpmaster strapped to you teaching you everything that you need to know to prepare yourself.

Some of the Best Skydive Training Centers in New Jersey

Whilst there are a number of skydive training centers around New Jersey, some are better than others. So if you are looking for some of the best New Jersey skydive training programs then you should try out the following:

    • The Skydive Jersey Shore

If you decide to try out the skydiving experience at skydive Jersey shore, you can expect to experience sixty seconds of freefalling before gliding back down to the ground for between five and seven minutes. A tandem jumping experience can cost around $195 if you go throughout the week but on a weekend it will cost you $215. You may be able to find deals for groups which are ideal if you want to go skydiving on a family activity. The center also offers you the chance to have your experience captured on DVD. The only real drawback is that you have to be 18 to actually jump so it is not suitable with families with younger children. There is also a weight restriction of 220 pounds.

    • Freefall Adventures

You will find the Freefall Adventures center near the Cross Keys airport and the good news is that it is open seven days a week. As with the Skydive Jersey Shore center, you will be able to experience what it is like to freefall for sixty seconds before once again gliding back down to the ground for between five to seven minutes.

Tandem jumps are slightly less expensive here at just $149 and you can even experience an extreme tandem jump. This is basically where you jump out of a turbine helicopter whilst it hovers in the air. If you are a serious skydiver then you will also be interested to know that there is an AFF program where you can work up to jumping on your own.

If you are looking to get to these centers then for the Skydive Jersey Shore center you should take the exit 98 if you are driving, whilst you are on the Garden State Parkway. You then have to go north on route 34 and turn left when you reach the first set of traffic lights which will lead you onto Hurleys Pond road. You only have to drive around 100 yards until you reach the entrance of the airport and then you will see signposts to the Skydive Jersey Shore. If you are not driving then it is possible to get the New Jersey train straight to Belmar and then get a cab which will take you to the center.

If you want to get to the Freefall Adventures Center then you have a number of options if you are driving. From Philadelphia you can either choose to go on the Walt Whitman or the Ben Franklin Bridge onto route 42 and then you will get to Atlantic City Expressway if you keep going. Once there you need to take the exit 41 and continue going right as you drive past the Home Depot. As soon as you reach Tuckahoe Rd you will need to turn left and then go right onto Dahlia Avenue. It is then only a short drive to the center.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

I've been hearing a lot about the Paleo Diet (also known as the Paleolithic Diet, or Caveman Diet) lately, so I thought I'd check into it and see what it's all about. Here's my review on this new diet fad that's sweeping the nation.

The idea behind the Paleo Diet is that ancient people ate natural foods, and were leaner and healthier than we are today, with our myriad of modern diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The kind of diet they ate was high in raw plants, fruits, vegetables, and meat. They, of course, did not eat all the suedo-foods we find in the grocery stores today, full of refined starches, chemicals, and preservatives.

Some people argue that ancient people were not healthier than we are today, and it's true that some cultures ate more "refined foods" and had more health problems to show for it, or just didn't have the foods available to make healthy choices, but most traditional cultures all over the world did have an ancient wisdom about their food and lifestyle choices. The Weston A. Price Foundation has tons of scientific research that backs up the idea of the health of ancient and traditional diets versus the modern diet.

The Paleo Diet argues that farming and the foods it produces, as well as food processing, the cornerstones of the modern diet, are the enemies of health. The Paleo Diet believes in cutting out milk, grains, beans and potatoes, as well as modern processed foods.

I disagree with some of this and believe instead that modern farming practices, such as striping the soil of natural nutrients and adding chemical fertilizers, pesticides and weed killers, not to mention franken-foods and gmo's are the true enemies of health today. Traditional farming, as practiced by most cultures for centuries (and organic and bio-dynamic farming today) produces very healthy foods to eat.

Of course, I agree that modern food processing, which kills live food and strips away any nutrients that are left, and then adds even more chemicals such as preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and synthetic vitamins, does indeed produce food that is unhealthy and should be avoided.

I also disagree with the Paleo Diet about avoiding milk and milk products. Certainly the over processed, homogenized, pasteurized dead milk you find in the grocery store is unhealthy, and should be avoided. But raw milk and raw milk products from reputable organic grass fed dairy farms are wonderful additions to any diet.

The idea that we should be go back to eating a more natural diet, like our ancestors did, is not really a new idea at all. I've been preaching a similar diet for almost 10 years now with my Enzyme Health Diet Plan and my Coconut Oil Diet website. The Weston A. Price Foundation has tons of scientific research that backs up the idea of the health of ancient and traditional diets versus the modern diet.

Are you still doing hours of aerobic exercises or weight training every week to maintain your weight? Are you frustrated at your inability to burn fat after hours every week at the gym?

Perhaps, instead, you are one of those people who avoid exercising because you just don't have the time, or you just hate doing it.

Now there is a much better way to exercise and get fit! The latest research shows that with best type of exercise to lose belly fat and weight, you only need to exercise for about seven minutes a day, three days a week. And, believe it or not, you can get into the best shape of your life doing this!

Most people are doing the wrong kind of exercise for weight loss, or they are doing it the hard way! You shouldn't have to work an hour or more on cardio exercises, or even walk for miles every day to lose weight and stay fit. You also don't have to spend hours a day in the gym doing resistance training or weight lifting. Even most weight lifters have been working too hard on their training, and reaping less benefits.

I don't know about you, but I don't have time in my hectic schedule for hours of workout time! And I find it really hard to get motivated to do that much work as well! Fortunately, I found out that I don't need to train that hard anymore-- and you don't either!

Aerobics is a low-intensity, long-duration exercise. You do get some small benefits from low intensity aerobics, but a recent Harvard study clearly shows that this kind of exercise doesn't help cut your risk of heart disease and death. When you exercise for long periods of time at a low to medium intensity, you are actually training your heart and lungs to get smaller!

Aerobics and low calorie dieting also aren't very helpful for losing weight and fat. When you cut calories and train for long periods of time, your body goes into a survival mode to help keep it from crashing. Your body is starving for energy, and it's trying to save you by holding on to the stored fat and adapting your metabolism to the new situation. Unfortunately this means you have little energy, cravings for energy foods like sugar and fat, and little or no real permanent weight loss.

So, what can you do to get the body to build muscle and burn fat?

The key to kicking your metabolism into gear for serious and permanent weight loss is doing very short but very intense exercise workout routines. The same recent Harvard study has also shown that those who do short-duration, high-intensity workouts reduce their risk of heart disease by 100 percent more than those who only do aerobic exercise.

High-intensity exercise can benefit anyone, no matter what their condition or age is. It's also one of the best ways that athletes can train. In most sports there are short bursts of intense exercise, which are usually followed by a moderate level of activity, so athletes will do better conditioning with short term high intensity workouts as well.

The benefits of incorporating short duration high intensity exercise workouts into your life are numerous, including losing fat, gaining muscle, improving your strength and agility, firming up your skin, toning up your body shape, having more energy, getting healthier, slowing down aging and improving your chances for living longer, activating your immune system, and increasing your stamina.

Remember also to add a few stretching exercises to your exercise routine. These help help improve circulation and help make your joints more flexible and elastic. Stretching also helps prepare the body for daily activity.

A good short duration high intensity exercise program should take you no longer than 7 minutes a day-- three days a week!

Of course, check with your doctor or naturopathic physician before starting any weight loss program, to be sure you are healthy enough for dieting and exercise.

When attempting to lose weight, be sure you look at your diet, as well as your exercise program. It is almost impossible for most people to lose weight and get healthier with exercise alone. One of the best diets you can use to lose weight is a coconut oil diet.
