When you need to get away from it all, travel to Asia for a truly unique and memorable experience. While each country offers tourists something new and exciting every day, here are 5 of the top vacation spots in Asia:

    - Hong Kong – There is definitely never a dull moment in the city of Hong Kong, whether during the day or enjoying the night life, you will surely have your hands full. Known as a tourist and shopping haven, Hong Kong will never let you down. If you enjoy sightseeing tours, the city of Hong Kong will take a couple or two to fully explore. Arts and technology events and exhibits are also available almost everyday. The HK Tourism Board is very active in promoting tourism in HK.

Hong Kong cuisine is also delicious and satisfying. Serving portions are large and whether meals or snacks, there are a lot of choices. Don't believe those 'I'm Lost in Hong Kong' shirts because you definitely will not get lost in Hong Kong. All roads and important landmarks and tourist spots have directional signs all over the place that is written in both Chinese and English.

Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park, and The Peak are some sites that require more than 2 days to explore.

    - Boracay – White sand beach, crystal clear water and exciting nightlife are some of the things that made Boracay included in the top 25 beaches in the world. Located in the Visayas Island in the Philippines, Boracay is frequented by tourists and celebrities. It is hard to determine whether the people go there for the relaxing yet exciting beach side and activities or for the very lively night life because they truly outdo each other.

    - Palawan – Also located in the Philippines, Palawan is called the 'Last Frontier' in the Philippines. This is considered a favorite vacation spot but unlike Hong Kong where the modernity and technology is being celebrated, the nature's allure and offering of Palawan makes every tourist come back for more. Mountain climbing, island hopping (with no less than 8 islands having powdery white sand beaches), diving and spelunking are just some of the things you can do here. The Underground River is also a popular site (a cave with a flowing river inside it and with astonishing rock formations and stalactites inside).

    - Macau – In the Forbes Luxe List of Most Extravagant Hotels Owned by Millionaires, The Venetian Resort Casino and Hotel in Macau made it as Top 10. Macau is truly a place like no other. You will definitely feel that you are in a vacation every minute you are in Macau.

    - Bangkok – The most happening city in Thailand, Bangkok is visited by hundreds of tourists every day. Truly reflecting the Asian culture, Bangkok has temples, floating market and cultural shows that attract both tourists and locals alike. Also, do watch out for the Bangkok City Sale as this makes Bangkok a good treasure trove for shoppers around the world.

Of course there are many other great vacation spots in Asia, but these are some good ones to start with if you are not sure where you want to go yet.

Giving gifts, as they say, is a pleasure for both the giver and the receiver. And at times, the excitement in giving and receiving starts with how the gift is wrapped. Whether gift bags, gift wraps or just ribbons – part of the excitement as the giver is you packaging it, and for the receiver, the excitement is on unpacking it.

Most people just get any old gift wrap and use it to wrap gifts year after year. Tired of the usual gift wraps? Here are some ideas that you can apply the next time you wrap gifts.

    Use colors to be unique!

Nobody said that colors should only be limited to red and gold during celebrations. Make your gift wrapping as colorful and as fun as your gift. Pink, blue, yellow or orange, you can use any color and what's best is that it will stand out versus the reds and the golds on the gift table. For a more fun and fanciful gift wrap have a paper wrap in one color, the ribbons in another color, and the card in another color as well. You can use complimenting shades to make it more elegant, or use entirely different colors for more fun and variety. Shiny foils can also make your gift stand out from the others and is especially good for an expensive gift or something that you know the recipient will absolutely love.

Have a theme to make everything organized!

If your gift is something antique, have your packaging the same theme too. If your gift is a Sponge Bob toy, you can use Sponge Bob paper gift wrapper, and you can use a Sponge Bob ribbon as well to build up the excitement as your little one anticipates the Sponge Bob item inside. If it is an elegant gift, you can use an elegant bag with complimenting ribbons to match.

    Personalize and use homemade materials!

You can even save cost with this one. Use the old cloth that you have in storage or use that old mesh bag. Get anything from your old art kit and turn it into a handmade bag or wrapper. If you are giving food as gift, you can use the same plastic container you have in your kitchen, then add a little ribbon, put on a little card, and you can have a personalized food pack already.

Use old newspaper, or if you can make paper mache its all the better, then use an old velvet or satin cloth to wrap it.

What is important is that you practice creativity and no matter what design or wrap you use, sometimes it is the effort that people notice and that makes it all the more special. Remember that part of the gift you are giving is your time and giving them your time and even your creativity is something that your loved ones will truly appreciate. So next time you wrap gifts, be conscious about your gift packaging and make it as special as the gift and your love for the receiver.

Gifts make people feel loved – and this applies not just to the receiver, but to the giver of the gift as well. Giving gifts is something special and it takes effort, time, and of course money on the part of the giver. If you are giving gifts, make sure that the receiver will be able to acknowledge and know that it is you who have given that item. Here are some things that you must place on your gift tag.

    - The name of the receiver – This ensures that your gift will not be given or taken away by the wrong person. If you are having exchange gifts where gifts are randomly paced on the table, or if you have gifts placed under the Christmas tree – do not rush, but rather you may want to ensure that the name of the recipient is there. Make sure to use both the first and last name if there might be multiple people with the same first name in order to avoid confusion.

    - The name of the giver – Especially on events where the receiver will be giving thank you notes later on (such as in weddings), make sure you indicate your name so that it would be easier to refer to it in the future. If you can make your message handwritten or if you can make the whole gift tag handwritten, then it is even better.

    - Your message – Write a brief but meaningful and sincere message. You may use the basic greetings but if you can insert a line or two of a personal message and what you really want to say to the receiver, then it is a lot better. As for the tips, make sure you write 'Best Wishes' instead of congratulations during weddings; but 'Congratulations' instead of good luck on graduation gifts. These two are the most common mistakes people make. While they both mean well, some may think of an underlying message hen you interchange the two greetings.

    - The date the gift is given. As some people keep the gift tags they receive for sentimental reasons, make sure that you write the date of the event itself, not the date you've prepared them, especially if you've prepared them days or weeks ahead.

On top of it all, remember to securely place the gift tag on the gift. Even if you have the full information, it would be useless if the tag will be accidentally removed. Now that you have everything set, always remember that a smile and a personal greeting or wish coming from you that the recipient will hear is something that will complete the gift. So be sincere and make your greeting heartfelt because the material thing is something that can be easily bought while your thoughts and wishes is something that will make everything more special.

These tips apply to all gift-giving occasion, whether it is a relative's birthday, a colleagues wedding, or your boyfriend or husband. Remember that just because you are already together or close that you need not put gift tags. Again, remember that some people will keep these tags for sentimental reasons.

The sun, the sand, and the sea – what's not to love about the beach? Everyone looks forward to summer where we can have an excuse to wear our sexiest swimsuit and just laze around the beach staring at hot bodies. Swimming at the beach is the favorite activity of course – with waves riding down on you and maybe even swimming contests with your family and friends.

Now, to make your stay at the beach even better, there are tons of activities that you can do to double the fun. Although the beach is a popular spot for single people, it can also be a great place for families to go with their children. Here are some things that you can try with your family and friends.

Bonfire parties – The warmth of the bonfire will truly warm you and your friends as well. Add to that roasted marshmallows and lots of stories to share – then you are truly for some fun at the beach. This is the perfect place for people to just relax and dance and play music and basically just have fun. Have your own happening party not in some expensive club but just at the beach side where everyone can drink, dance, and feel the breeze. You can even bring some marshmallows and roast them over the open fire and either eat them or make smores.

Throwing Frisbees – Ultimate Frisbee or Extreme Frisbee are fun to do with family and friends. You can play around with the game – just have fun with it. Or if players are competitive, you can make it a competition in your group. Have dogs? Get them in on the fun for some hilarious moments. Or just relax and throw the Frisbee around casually.

Sandcastles – Everyone's favorite activity turns everyone into little kids again – well, because it is something people have enjoyed doing at the beach since probably they first learned how to walk. From simple castles to elaborate ones, you will definitely not notice how time flies when you're building sandcastles.

Picnic – Barbecue parties at the backyard are made more special when you bring them to the beach. Sharing grilled food with the family in a very casual and fun setting really is a break from the ordinary. The breeze at the beach makes it perfect for games, small talks and just lazing around while eating your favorite food. Having food at the beach is a great way to relax with friends and family.

Water Sports – To bring out your sporty and adventurous side, try different water sports. Jet ski, para sailing, windsurfing – are just some things you can try. Remember that like any other sports, it is important that you learn the ropes and the safety guidelines first. Bring a volleyball and have a beach volleyball party with friends. Do not forget to capture these activities through photos and videos. It will remind you how much fun you have had.

So have a fun day at the beach – where everything goes, literally, under the sun.

Although Ireland is a small country compared to other countries around the world, it has a long history and lots of culture. Ireland has a good mixture of people, including both urban and rural communities, Catholic and Protestant religious groups, Irish and English speaking people, and a population that consists of native Irish folk and immigrants from abroad.

The Irish have contributed many things to worldwide culture throughout the years. For holidays, Saint Patrick's Day is a well known holiday that has Irish roots. The shamrock is a symbol of Ireland that can now be found in other places around the world. As far as folklore and fantasy is concerned, the Leprechaun is one well known contribution to world literature. Ireland is also known for potatoes and pubs.

Trivia is always fun to know; and sharing trivia about countries is always interesting. Ireland is already an interesting country, and here is some fun information that will change your view about Ireland and make you realize how fun it truly is.

    - Want to be in touch in nature? Dublin boasts what is considered to be the oldest zoo in Europe.

    - It may be a little tricky, but upon closer look, windmills in Ireland turn clockwise. What's different? All windmills around the world just happen to turn the other way around, they all turn counter-clockwise.

    - Born in an immigrant ship and whose parents are from a place called Country Antrim in Europe, former US President Andrew Jackson is considered to be the only US president who was not born in US.

    - In the field of agriculture, Ireland was actually the first country in Europe to grow potatoes as a staple.

Even in the digital world where people can easily share pictures on the web, nothing beats a printed photo prominently displayed in your living room or office cubicle. These printed photographs remind us of our loved ones or special moments we have had with them. These memorabilia are important in reminding us that special people in our lives can lift our spirits or even motivate us when we are down – sometimes a small photograph can do such wonders.

To enhance the display of our photographs and to protect them from wear, people often use picture frames. Photo frames come in many shapes and sizes and can fit just about any type of photograph. In protecting photos and choosing the perfect picture frame, here are some of the things to look for:

    - Get the exact measurement of the picture and the area where you will place your photo. Picture frames come in different sizes, and depending on the style, they have borders and design on the sides that will take space as well. See whether the current frames and other things in that area are in a certain shape, eg, all round decorations or all square decor and frames. Give it a more appealing aesthetic look by giving a certain format or standard when it comes to the shape of your frames.

    - You can choose the texture that will fit your photo and area. If you have photos in sepia, you may want to consider a wooden or antique type of frame. For more modern photos, you can choose matte, or for more playful frames for your kid's photos, frames come in a lot designs such as balloons, cribs, or flower pots.

-If you have digital/soft copies of photos, there are digital frames that can show your photos in a slideshow format. The newer ones even have Swarovski crystals embedded on its frame for added class and elegance.

    - Ask the sales attendants the type of material that is used in the frames. Commonly, the cheaper ones are made of lighter materials that can crack or turn your photos yellow over time. More expensive ones are made of high-quality materials that can protect your photos from wind and moisture – the two things that destroys most print photos. Check if the screws, pins, and holders are already included because at times, these frames have their own screws and holders that you cannot buy individually.

    - If you have kids at home, most would consider using frames that are hanged instead of those frames being placed on table tops for safety purposes.

    - In placing frames on walls, considering getting the help of a handyman as the plaster and screws may need a professional's touch so as to not damage the walls.

Choosing the right picture frame is not just about displaying your favorite photos. It is also about protecting the memories of these photos and the wonderful events you and your loved ones have experienced. With just a little time and effort, you can easily find the perfect photo frame for your special photographs.

Eating meals together should not just be seen as a daily routine, rather, it has significant importance between families and loved ones. In today's modern and hectic time, people go to drive-thru's, have lunch delivered at the office, or eat while in the car. Having meals together at the dining table is a somewhat rare and special event altogether.

If you and your family and loved ones are catching up only on weekends at the dinner table, why not make it extra special by setting up a formal dinner table. Formal dinner table settings are also appropriate when you have guests coming over or for other formal and special events.

Before setting the table, get out all the utensils that you will need and set them on the counter. Make sure to get enough for all your dinner guests and use plates, bowls, and silverware from the same set for uniformity. The items not to miss out on are:

Dinner plate with salad or soup bowl on it, knife, small spoon, soup spoon, bread plate with butter knife, coffee cup, water glass, wine glass, salad fork, dinner fork, and dessert fork.

Have a centerpiece that will reflect the mood that you want to have during dinner. Have a bouquet of flowers, candles, or a basket of fruit if you to have a formal and elegant dinner. Having a toy or any representative object (such as wrapped gifts) can make the dinner extra playful or look celebratory (especially if you will indeed have a celebration that night).

Dinner plates are placed approximately an inch away from the edge of the table. This is just the exact distance so people will not be stooping down or reaching out to their plates. Prints or patterns printed on your plate should be seen at the right side of the person.

The knife is placed on the right side of the plate with its blades inward. Ensure that the blade is just on the side, and not underneath the plate.

On the left of the dinner plate should be the fork, and when resting, fork prongs should face upwards. The tablespoon is placed next to the knife.

The napkin may simply be folded in half or you may use some fancy folding technique. As for placement, you can place them on top of the dinner plate, or beside the flatware (found on your left).

If extra fork or spoon is needed (for dessert, soups or salad), place the extra spoons next to the main spoons and the extra fork beside the main forks.

Always remember that silverware is used from the outside in – so the first ones that will be used should be at the farthest side of the dinner plate, while the last ones are the ones nearer the plate.

It is actually fun to set-up a dinner table especially when you know that your family will be enjoying it as well. No need to purchase new and expensive table pieces and china. All you need are the basics and a little creativity in making dinner and other meal times as special as your love for the family.

Cookies come prepackaged in boxes or they can be purchased in bakeries and grocery stores, but nothing beats the taste of homemade cookies. Crunchy, chewy, or buttery - people of all age, shapes and sizes enjoy bite after bite of delicious cookies. Additionally, cookies are more fun to eat when they come in fun shapes. Using cookie cutters to cut your cookies into shapes is a great way to present your delicious cookies to kids, guests at parties, and just about anyone.

You can buy cookie cutters but if you want a fancier cookie cutter, it's easy to make one yourself. Plus you can make them into any shape you want and for any occasion. If you are having a zoo themed party for example, you can form them into animal shapes.

So what do you need to make your very own cookie cutters? Materials are readily available in hardware stores and making them requires just a few simple steps. You can make multiple cookie cutters so that you can make multiple cookies quickly.

Here are the materials that you will be needing to make your own cookie cutters:

    - A roll of aluminum – be sure to use only food grade aluminum, as some types of aluminum contain chemicals that are not safe for use in food products. Check the gauge of the aluminum – the stronger the gauge, the harder it will be to bend the metal to the desired shape.

    - The shape of your planned cookie cutter

    - A ruler or straight-edge

    - A pair of scissors – if you are using a heavy gauge aluminum you can use tin snips

    - A knife

    - Clips

    - Adhesive – You should check to make sure they are safe for food

Follow these simple steps on how to make your own cookie cutter:

    - Lay the photograph or the image you want to be the design of your cookie cutter. Get the twine and follow the lines of the image using the twine.

    - To measure the length of the aluminum you can use the length of the twine as a gauge as well.

    - Cut the aluminum depending on the width that you want.

    - Bend the aluminum according to the shape of the desired cookie cutter (the image that you have).

    - Place adhesive at the ends of the cutter.

    - Use clips to hold the ends together as you allow it to dry.

You can use old soda cans so you don't have to purchase aluminum (besides, soda cans are already safe for food use). And when you no longer want the same shape, you can simply discard it and create another one. Seems that as long as you have empty soda cans and a splash of creativity, you can easily create the cookie cutter of your dreams.

You can even ask kids to help you out for more fun and bonding time in the kitchen. Just make sure you make them wear gloves or anything that will protect their hands from any possible cut from the aluminum edges or the knife. Now you just need to whip up your favorite recipe and you're on your way to some yummy cookie time.

Giving gifts is one of the most celebrated traditions of all time. For very obvious, practical, and joyful reasons, giving and receiving gifts goes beyond the gift itself. But how about those gifts that comes with a very high price tag?

Some say that it is the thought of giving gift that counts. But for some, that is not enough. They are the ones who are willing to impress their loved ones with lavish gifts – gifts that are high in monetary value, and become the center of attention in the world of high living. There is something that is especially awe inspiring in purchasing a gift that is well beyond most people's budgets.

They are also the ones who have the resources and are knowledgeable in the world of precious stones – the most expensive gems of all time that are intended to get the attention not just of their loved ones, but of the world as well because of their class, elegance and value.

While jewelry is being given every day in every corner of the world as gifts, here are some lavish items that really standout.

    1. With a price tag of $7.98 million, the Blue Diamond was auctioned at Sotheby's in Hong Kong.

    2. Novo Yellow Diamond Ring is sold at Tiffany's for $1.35 million. The 25.27 carat diamond ring set in platinum and yellow gold has always been considered as one of the most expensive engagement ring.

    3. The 40.63-carat Burma ruby cut in heart-shape and comes with a 155-carat diamond necklace is the top jewelry in the British collection. With a price tag of $14 million, its monetary value is primarily due to its rarity.

    4. The Chopard Blue Diamond ring is an oval-shaped diamond ring, with triangular-shaped diamond shoulders and a pave-set diamond band in 18-carat white gold, priced at about $1.7 million per carat, again, because of its rarity, has a total price tag of $16.26 million.

    5. Priced for no less than $3 million for this necklace – this elegant color combination of white and green stones, the Magnificent Diamond and Emerald Necklace from Chopard's "Haute Joaillerie" collection has 191-carats worth of Columbia's most beautiful emeralds, made beautiful with 16 carats of rose-cut and drop-shaped diamonds.

It has been said that diamonds are a girl's best friend. So for a truly valuable gift, in every sense of the word, you can give jewelry as gifts to your loved ones. Jewelry does not lose its value over time. In fact, most jewelry has appreciated in value over time. And again, apart from the monetary value, jewelry has emotional and social value that also does not diminish over time.

While most gifts may not be as expensive, giving a gift that has significantly more financial value is deemed important not only because of its price, but because of the effort in coming up with such an amount to purchase the gift. The investment is not just on the monetary value, but also on the thought of giving something of great value.

Almost across all religions, the newest members of their belief are welcomed using rituals and rites of passage. This has been the tradition of almost all religions since the beginning of known history. Whether in tribes, with Muslims, Catholics or Baptist, welcoming new people is a symbol of their growing community and belief.

In the Christian world, there are ceremonies being done to 'welcome' the child into the Christian world. Often called baptism or christening, these two terms are being used interchangeably. It is understandable as there is a thin line between the two – they actually go together and it is seldom that one occurs without the other. However, many people wonder what the differences are in meaning between the two. Here are some of the key differences between the terms Baptism and Christening.

    - Baptism is the actual ceremony conducted to welcome the newborn or baby into the church. This ceremony includes pouring water to the forehead of the newborn – this is to symbolize or recreate the baptism of Jesus himself by John the Baptist in the River Jordan. The pouring of water or sprinkling of water is done three times as to symbolize the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

    - Christening is not a ceremony but rather the giving of a Christian name during baptism. With this, it means that the two belong together – two activities that follow each other.

    - Baptism symbolizes the washing away of sins and admission into the Church. Christening is generally giving a name to be 'christened' or welcomes in the Christian church.

    - The word Baptism is also used in the Church community. The word Christening is a more of a secular expression.

    - For the church, Baptism is a Holy Sacrament while Christening is the naming of a child.

    - There are sects that can have christening – only intended to give a 'religious' name to the child, but without the sacrament of baptism (as it is solely a holy sacrament in the Catholic church), but this is considered quite rare. This then becomes simply a naming ceremony

    - As to groups, the Pentecostal, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Baptist churches, generally those under Christian and Evangelical churches practice differences when it comes to the two.

    - However for the Lutheran and Catholic churches, they may be used interchangeably as they are generally connected to welcoming a new member in their church.

For those who are under the Catholic church, it is acceptable and understandable that the two be used interchangeably. What is more important in the Catholic church is how you live and practice the faith and belief that was bestowed during such ceremonies.

As both are focusing and reflecting on the life and practices of Jesus, these ceremonies and sacraments becomes then a primary starting point in a Christian's world. Of the Holy Sacraments, this is the first holy sacrament that the Christian is receiving, thus, the whole family then becomes supportive and encouraging of this rite. The ceremony if often conducted with family members and close friends with religious clergy present to initiate the rites.

When you're averaging a few hours a sleep a night due to a crying baby, you may be tempted to put him or her in bed next to you. Better sleep for you and the baby right? Seems like an easy decision to make. However, visions of rolling over your little one may make the choice a bit more complicated. In the difficult decision to either co-sleep (sleep with your baby) or put baby in his or her crib, what is the right thing to do? With parents on both sides of the crib of this heated debate, one thing is for sure-there are no easy answers. Parents should weigh in the pros and cons of sleeping with their baby and then decide what's right for them and their little one. In this article, we will discuss the positives and negatives to sleeping with your baby so you can make an informed decision.

Let's start with the negatives. Here are a few cons for sleeping with your baby:

    1. Short-term solution may create a long-term problem. The Mayo Clinic says that "bed sharing" makes it difficult for babies to get to sleep on their own. So while you may be temporarily relieved to get your baby asleep quickly, you may have problems down the road with getting them comfortable in their crib.

    2. Increase potential risks. Although the risk for Sudden Infant Syndrome or SIDS is controversial, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that parents avoid sleeping with their babies. In fact, they advise against having babies sleep in adult beds at all.

    3. Decreased intimacy with partner. You might feel closer to baby but less so with your partner since you literary may be putting the baby in between you.

If you decide not to sleep with your baby but are still having trouble getting him or her to sleep, you can try other sleep strategies such as letting your baby cry him or herself to sleep, create a bedtime ritual or try the Ferber sleep method. This involves putting your baby to sleep while they are still up but sleepy. You can also put the crib right next to you to minimize the hassle of getting up and walking to the nursery.

Here are some of the positives for sharing your bed with baby:

    1. Increased bonding time. Sleeping with your baby is a great way to spend time bonding with baby.

    2. It's Convenient. It is convenient to have baby near you especially when you are breastfeeding.

    3. It is comforting for baby. Babies who sleep next to mothers may sleep more soundly and cry less.

If reading the pros of sleeping baby makes you want to try it, then remember to be as safe as you can by following these suggestions: make sure to baby on her or his back, do not drink alcohol or take medications that will make you drowsy, and put adequate barriers such as two adults and not pillows to prevent baby from falling off the bed.

Article Title: How to Handle Argumentative Children - Arguing For Positive Change

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

When you are dealing with argumentative children very quickly the focus can change from whatever started the argument to a totally irrelevant topic. This is often because the child has taken control of the argument.

As a parent, your job, of course, is to train and guide, not to engage in pointless arguments with your child. Easier said than done, to be sure, but just giving some thought to this process can mean the next time you are in an argument with your child or teen you can keep control of the conversation and make the situation a focus of positive change.

An argument can become a source of positive change? Really?

    Yes and here is how.

    - Decide ahead of time to not argue.

The truth of the matter is that most arguments between parents and children are actually power struggles. For some reason, kids instinctively know this and sometimes will intentionally "pick fights" to demonstrate their ability to spin up mom or dad.

If you don't believe this, then you will probably never have a constructive argument with your child. They have already won. However, if you are able to take an objective look at these kinds of situations, you will notice that the one thing that is required for an argument to really gain steam is both parties' participation.

So the first thing to do as a parent is to not participate in the argument. Just don't do it.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? But if your child has learned your emotional hot buttons, then changing your behavior will not be simple at all.

Do this one thing the next time an argument starts between you and your child.

    Listen.

That's it. Just listen. Which means you won't be talking, you'll be listening to what your child is saying (or screaming).

At first, your child may up the ante by yelling louder. Very quickly, however, the argument will lose its power because only one person will be participating - and it is not you.

    - Ask questions.

Once the argument has cooled and people are calm again, present your child with a written set of questions designed to separate truth from emotional hype.

    Questions such as...

    * Tell me what was upsetting you at that moment.

    * Tell me what you would like to see happen (or change). Does it pass the tests of reasonableness and our family's values?

    * Tell me your plan, in detail, for making the change happen.

    * Tell me what obstacles you see happening if we make this change.

    * If this change requires something from me, tell me what you will do for me in exchange of equal value.

Develop your own questions that are appropriate for your family situation. The point is that answering these types of questions forces your child to either...

    * admit that Mom or Dad is listening to him and stands ready to work out a positive change

    or

    * reveals that the child is not interested in moving forward, but only in winning the power struggle of arguing.

As a parent you can easily think this process through in advance and envision what may happen. For example, some children will get quite angry when they realize their power struggle victories are over.

However, some argumentative children will recognize the advantage this process gives them if they truly feel no one has been listening to them before.

Either way, you will know more about truth in your own family than you knew before. And insight is always a good - and challenging - thing.

Want to know how to deal with argumentative children? Stop participating in the argument and get them engaged in a positive process of change that they are personally involved with.

It's not a magic process, but it can change the direction of conversation in your home with very little effort.

Have you had it with your troubled teenager? Are you ready to throw up your hands and quit? Have you talked enough? Cried enough? Yelled more than enough? Taken enough disrespect from your teenager to last a lifetime?

If this sounds far too familiar, you're not alone. Parents who faithfully try to help troubled teenagers often feel as though they have been punished for their efforts. Doesn't seem right, does it? Give your best to someone you love and get rejected in the process?

Well, if this is where you're at, take a deep breath. Relax, if just a bit. Before you completely give up on helping your troubled teenager, take a step backward and re-evaluate with a new perspective.

A perspective of mentoring instead of changing.

What do I mean? Well, most parents are working hard at changing their children. I understand that. I have four kids of my own, three of which have already went through the teenage years. Just ask them; I have spent my fair share of time and energy trying to change them.

The truth is we cannot change anyone. Except ourselves. So let's change ourselves from change-ers into mentors.

Why mentors? Because mentors rely upon using their influence and influence is something that you have in abundance with your teen.

No matter what your son or daughter is saying to you, they probably wish they could listen to you more. That's just the way humans are wired as they are growing up. Teenagers yearn for someone they can trust and depend upon, someone who they can look up to.

Ideally, that someone is supposed to be you, Mom or Dad.

But raising kids produces emotional baggage, doesn't it? And not all of it pleasant. By the time our kids are teens, they know our emotional hot buttons - and, as parents, we are thoroughly invested in their potential - which means we aren't always very objective.

We just want them perfect. Period. We want them to listen to us, trust us and lean on us. All the while growing up to be completely mature; even without the necessary judgment or experience to do so!

Mentoring is the process of coming alongside of our teens. Not as their buddies, mind you. We need to be the leader in the relationship. So we listen to them more than we talk. We draw out their ideas on problem-solving and guide them to make better choices as opposed to jumping down their throats when they forget to do something we have asked (and asked and asked).

We behave as trustworthy guides who have their best interests at heart along with firm boundaries in place. We come from a position that if our troubled teens want to be treated as young adults, they must act like young adults, not just talk trash, pretending to be adults. Are they up to the challenge? That's what we press them on, encouraging our teens to prove their maturity to us.

And some of them will decide to live up to the challenge. Some will not. But at least we've stopped yelling and our homes are more peaceful.

Troubled teenagers need to see how the real world works. It helps if you can show them that right from your homelife while you mentor them into adulthood.
