If you are thinking of a present to give to somebody, have you ever thought of giving them charms that they could use as a pendant or as something they could hang on their bracelets. You could include with the gift a bracelet or a necklace and then every special occasion you can give them additional charms or pendants to add or use as a substitute for the ones they currently have.
These gifts will be appreciated by people of different ages and backgrounds irregardless of their gender or race. They make perfect gifts not only because they look so adorable but every charm could somehow represent a significant or important moment in their life that they could treasure as a special remembrance.
I know of somebody who has a bracelet full of charms, some given by friends and some she purchased herself. The charms on her bracelet somehow reflect the different experiences and memorable moments in her life. One of her charms is a flag to constantly remind her of her heritage and culture. She has an Eiffel Tower charm to remind her of her honeymoon in romantic Paris. You could also do the same with your very own charms as well as when you give these to friends or family as a gift.
You can find these trinkets in a variety of designs, shapes, sizes and style to find a perfect fit for whom you will be giving it to. You could start by buying a charm bracelet with a single or several charms and your recipient would then just add charms according to her tastes or you could give her one every time there would be any special occasion. In time the charms will accumulate that not only looks cute and attractive but would also begin to tell a story of the different memorable experiences in her life.
It is important though that when you buy charms for someone that you know well the person you are giving it to so that you would have at least a general ides of what she will like. If you will be giving a man a charm or pendant for his necklace, opt to buy those that are masculine looking so that he would use it. You also have to consider the size as well as the weight of the charm. Quite often it does not look nice to have very big charm on a bracelet with small chains. Also, others don't look good with very big charms or pendants on their necklaces especially if they have small necks. If you will be buying from the internet verify if the charm you will be buying is flat, 3d or hollow. It is imperative that you select an online store that provides products that are of quality and can provide good customer service.

As the saying goes, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend." Ask any woman for that matter and you would find out that majority prefer diamonds over any other type of gem when it comes to jewelry. Diamonds adorn engagement rings and wedding rings as well. True, these stones come with a price (and what an expensive price it is) but every woman whether she can afford it or not would want to have these stones whether it be given or purchased. This could probably be attributed to the fact that having a diamond is a symbol of wealth and also because investing in these types of jewelry is considered a valuable investment whose value appreciates through the years.
Dating back to ancient times, diamonds have been worn by people in authority especially those in royalty to symbolize power, might and bravery. In fact, the word "diamond" which is derived from Adamas (which is Greek) means invincible, cannot be conquered. This is probably why the diamond has been used as a symbol of love since love conquers all.
Diamonds are expensive because they are rare and precious. In fact it takes tons of ores to produce even just a carat of diamond. They are also being sought after because of its sheer beauty and the mystery that it holds. Diamonds truly fascinate anybody given the opportunity to behold it in all its beauty.
Most people may be more familiar with the clear colorless diamonds or those with just a slight hint of color but actually you can also find natural fancy color diamonds that are quite rare and very expensive as well. They can come in the colors pink, red and green which are the rare ones as well as shades of brown or yellow which are the more common ones. When you are looking for a diamond to purchase you need to bear in mind certain considerations which are known in the jewelry industry as the 4C's in buying diamonds. It is important that you take into consideration the color, cut, clarity and carat. A fifth C that you could also include would be cost.
It is important in buying these precious stones to have an idea of how to choose them appropriately to avoid being deceived by retail jewelers who may be out to defraud or give you something of a lesser value for what you will be paying for.

You do not really pay much attention to your gutters unless they cause problems. Unfortunately, when this happens, the damage is already widespread and serious. It could be expensive to deal with gutter repair. This is why it is necessary to regularly maintain your gutters and hire an Elkridge gutter repair expert if necessary. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind to keep rain from pouring inside your home.
Here are some of them:
1. Inspect your roof regularly. This is one of the tips given by Elkridge gutter repair expert contractors. You have to put this task in your home maintenance schedule. If you have a one-storey house, you can simply take a ladder and climb up to check your roof and gutters. Those with houses with higher structures might need more equipment to do their inspection. If there is a taller structure near your house, you can try and go up to a level where you can see your roof and gutters to try to see whether there are signs of wear and tear or damage.
2. Clear any trees with branches that could damage your gutters or leaves that could fall into your gutters. While trees provide your home the shade and protection it needs, they can also contribute to damage over time. Branches that rub against the gutter might cause rips and corrosion on the roofing and gutter material. Dried leaves that fall on your roof and gutters, on the other hand, may accumulate and cause blockage when rain pours. This can result in poor drainage. In extreme cases the weight of the water pooled in the gutter or roof can cause the structure to collapse. You can trim the branches over your roof to prevent them from causing damage. You can also move the tree and replant it some distance from your house. Clearing debris from your roof is often recommended before the winter season.
3. When you find damage, have it repaired right away. Do not hesitate to call in an Elkridge gutter repair expert if you find that your roof is already damaged. You can call the pros in for an inspection so they can tell you what repairs need to be done. They should be able to discuss your options with you. It would also be a good idea to look for a repair contractor that offers a no-obligation quote. You should not be forced to pay any service fees that you do not agree with at the onset.
The advantage of discovering damage early on is that you do not have to spend as much in repairs. You have to make way in your budget for these expenses. Not doing so can result in bigger expenses later on. Another advantage that you can enjoy is the lack of urgency. You normally have some time to schedule minor repairs. When rain water is already pouring inside your home, you do not have a choice but to jump at the first contractor that you come across no matter how much they charge.

Your roof and gutters are parts of your house that you should not take for granted. These protect you, your family, and your property from weather elements. While our ancestors from centuries ago are quite content building the roofs on top of their heads, modern homes today require a gutter installation contractor Elkridge. Modern installations are much more durable and longer lasting than the woven branches used in olden days. There are different kinds of materials to choose from as well as different designs that augur well for the kind of weather conditions in your location.
Before you choose your roofing and gutter materials, it is first important to find a gutter installation contractor Elkridge that you can trust. This building project is not a cheap project to undertake. You will be spending good money on materials and labor. You want to make sure that the contractor that you will hire can get the job done within the time frame and budget you dictate. In evaluating the contractors in your area, keep in mind the following tips:
1. Track Record - this is important in any contractor that you deal with for any project. Look for information about the company and its owners. Find out how they are regarded in the industry and by their customers. You should be able to ask for industry and customer references. Those with extensive networks of suppliers, experts, and workers will be able to give you better services. They should also be able to offer a cost effective package tailor-fit to your gutter installation project.
2. Quote and Pricing - the first step to any project is an inspection and a quote. You cannot simply input your roof and gutter area into an online form and expect an accurate quote. Your chosen contractor should offer to inspect your roof and gutter and then discuss your repair and installation options with you. You are looking for a reasonable quote that covers everything about the project from start to finish. Ask for a detailed or an itemized quote so that you can make adjustments in the cost items if necessary.
Once you have your quotes, you can then compare one contractor's pricing structure with that of another contractor. You do not necessarily have to go with the cheaper quote. What you want is the most accurate estimate of what the entire project would cost. A low quote will be no good if your contractor bills you with incidentals and add-on charges at the end of your project.
3. Service Contract - do not sign any contracts without thoroughly reading the fine print. You specifically want to look for any provisions that expose you to risks. These provisions would include items such as the waiver of liability of the contractor in case of accidents or sub-standard work. Some contracts would expressly clear the contractor of any liability for damage or injury caused by their work. Some contracts might also bind you to certain expenses that you should not be charged. Feel free to ask your gutter installation contractor Elkridge about any contract provisions that you do not understand or would like to be clarified.

Dealing with clogged gutters is not something that you will find pleasant to deal with. If you are in the Elkridge area, there are gutter cleaning contractors that you can hire for your house maintenance needs. These expert gutter cleaning Elkridge companies offer its residents cost-effective ways to clear debris from your roof and gutters. This ensures that you do not miss any dirt accumulation in the clean-up. With your gutter cleared of debris, you will not have to worry about rain water causing damage to your house's structure.
Some homeowners might want to save some money doing the job themselves. Although there is nothing wrong with a DIY gutter cleaning, there are some homeowners who lack the skills to do so and would be better off hiring experts. You can either damage your roof and gutters further or injure yourself if you try to clean your gutters without the proper skills and equipment. You need more than just a pair of gloves and a garden trowel on your hands to do this home maintenance task. Those who are trained to do roof maintenance and are experienced in the job are in a better position to undertake this project.
In your choice of gutter cleaning Elkridge contractor, you have to choose the one with the equipment, manpower, and expertise to complete your project with satisfactory results. Your first step is to consult the business directory listings in your area. This will likely give you a list of companies offering the services that you require. You can then ask around and do your research about the companies that you find. Make a shortlist of potential contractors and focus your investigation on these companies. Do not hesitate to call their customer service hotlines to make your inquiries. The company representative you talk to will give you an idea of how the company treats their customers.
The next step would be to schedule an inspection and to request for a quote. The cleaning contractor will be able to tell you exactly how much it would cost for them to complete the work. Ask for a definite cost and time estimate. Some contractors might bill you for man hours while others might bill on a per square meter basis. Be clear on what services are included in the quote. Ask about any additional charges that you could be billed later on. When the contractor says that there will be no more additional charges for you to worry about, make sure that it is in your service contract.
It would not hurt to ask your prospective contractor for any packages that they offer. Since you have to do your gutter cleaning at least a couple of times in a year, it might be more cost effective for you to find a gutter cleaning Elkridge contractor that offers regular maintenance and cleaning services for a certain period of time. The package might also include any emergency problems that you might have during your contract period. In these cases, you can simply call their 24/7 hotline and get the service that you need right away. You might find that this is a more cost-effective way to keep your roof and gutters maintained.

Different homes have different styles and construction. But, all homes have the same components. One of the most important parts of homes is the rain gutter. These rain gutters Elkridge homes have are important in keeping the rainwater from flowing all over the place. They are troughs made of different materials that are installed along the base of the roof so that rainwater can drain through them. There is often a downspout that connects to the corner of the gutters so that water can flow down with ease. Keeping the gutters and downspouts in good condition is a necessary part of home maintenance.
In a lot of homes, the common problem with rain gutters is clogging. This alone can result in a host of problems which include leaks, sagging, and even structural issues. There are experts in maintaining rain gutters Elkridge homes have. These experts can take care of cleaning and repair needs of homeowners. With their help, the rain gutters will be kept in good condition to prevent water damage in the home's interior as well as in the area surrounding the home where rain water flows from the roof.
There are different kinds of gutter materials that can be chosen based on durability as well as compatibility to the home's style elements. In some cases, architects and builders choose to use the gutter as a decorative component. More than the style and color that adds to the home's aesthetic appeal, the choice of gutter material should be based on what would best serve the purpose of catching rain water from the roof and effectively draining it into the ground or drainage system.
The most common type of gutter is the aluminium or vinyl sectional gutter. These are measured and fastened together on the construction site. While this kind of gutter is relatively easy to install, sectional gutters are often less durable because of the presence of seams and joints. The areas where the sections connect are susceptible to leaks and debris accumulation. Opting for aluminium seamless gutters is often recommended as an alternative. The gutter sections are seamless materials that span an entire length of the house.
Other types of gutters like the U-shape and the K-shape gutters may also be considered for various reasons. There are, of course, disadvantages to each of these types of gutters. U-shape gutters come in rounded bases in different diameters ranging from four to six inches. The main benefit of these gutters is that they do not easily corrode. As such, it lasts longer than aluminium gutters. Its downside is that it does not hold much rainwater because of its limited size. The K-shape gutter is recommended because they can accommodate more water and can easily be incorporated into the home's design.
In choosing your gutter, you have to think about the amount of rainfall that you get in your location every year. You also have to choose the kind that will not last more than just a couple of years. After the initial cost of installation, think about including the cost of the maintenance and repair for rain gutters Elkridge in your annual household budget.

Most of us are familiar with "plain vanilla" bus tour from Las Vegas or Phoenix to the Grand Canyon. However, the ones that really pack a punch are combo tours, which let you see the National Park in ways that few others ever will.
Las Vegas
First off, Sin City travelers need to decide which rim they want to visit. There are two: West Rim and South Rim, with the former being 2.5 hours away while the later is 5.5-hours.
Bus tours depart every day of the year including all major US holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, and all come with the following:
> Lunch
> Park entrance fees & taxes
> Professional guide service
In most cases, drive time settles the issue of which rim to visit. If not, consider this as a guide:
> Go to the West Rim if you are looking for adventure;
> Go to the South Rim if you are looking for incredible natural scenic beauty.
There are a number of great combo tours at the West Rim to be had. The most popular one includes full-access to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. If you're not familiar yet with the glass bridge, here are some fun facts:
> Comprised of 40+ glass panels, each of which costs $250,000!
> Let's you walk 70 feet past the edge
> Let's you stand 4,000 feet over the bottom
If you go with this tour, remember that no cameras or personal electronics are allowed on the Skywalk. This is to protect the glass surface. The solution: Opt to use one of their profession photographers (I did and the photos were fantastic!).
The #2 most popular combo tour includes a helicopter tour to the bottom of the canyon and a boat ride down the Colorado River. This is a very unique trip because you can only ride a helicopter to the bottom at the West Rim and nowhere else inside the National Park.
South Rim
Combo trips from Vegas to this rim are limited. This is due to the fact that helicopters are banned from going to the bottom. Further, much of your time is spent getting there so it's impossible to add a rafting option. The option that does exist is the rim-to-rim helicopter ride, which is utterly fantastic because it goes through the Dragoon Corridor, the widest, deepest part of the gorge!
Phoenix
Visitors here only go to the South Rim. There are no tours at this time that go from Phoenix to South Rim to West Rim etc. It's just too far. These trips do include a stopover in beautiful Sedona, AZ, before going north to the National Park. The option in this case is the 1/2-hour helicopter ride, which, as I mentioned earlier, is a definite must-do for the savvy bus traveler.
Book It!
Bus tours are already the best values on the market. However, you can get them cheaper. First, make sure to reserve your trip in advance. I always recommend locking down your seats a week ahead of time. Next, purchase your tour online. By now, we all know the Internet is the source for cheap tickets. Just make sure you complete the transaction online in order to qualify for the Internet Rate.
Conclusion
I hope this article about canyon combo tours to the Grand Canyon inspires you to add a helicopter, boat or Skywalk to your package. By doing this, you'll take your National Park experience to a higher level, thereby generating even more memories that will last a lifetime.

On the surface, mathematics and marketing seem to be two entirely different disciplines; one deals with equations while the other is concerned with sales. In reality, they are as correlated with one another as cheese and crackers. The purpose of "Mathematical Ideas for Marketers", a blog post written by an author who calls himself willcritchlow, highlights a number of ways (and provides examples) in which relatively basic statistical concepts can be used to drastically improve the effectiveness of ones marketing ability. At no point does the author claim to be an expert, but he does provide insightful links further describing each idea; some prove to be quite tough to understand upon first read.
He begins by talking about averages, which is typically a quite elementary subject. Further, he notes that averages, as simple as they seem, are often misreported because of different factors that are ignored. You have to pay close attention in order for the numbers to tell you the correct story. Next comes correlation coefficients; these coefficients show how closely linked two variables are. For example, income is usually highly correlated with education. In designing predictive models, we want our X variables to be highly correlated with our Y variable, and we want to know the extent to which they move together. Now becoming a little bit more complicated, the author talks about the Bayesian approach to web analytics which helps determine if discrepancies in web analytics data is meaningful. The last thing he mentions is perhaps the concept most closely associated with marketing: the Markov chain. A Markov chain is a sequence of random variables that only depends on the last variable. In terms of marketing, it has to do with the probability of moving from one page to another; moving to page B is only dependent on having been on page A in the first place.

There is no such thing as a perfect predictive model in statistics; there will always be an error term. The goal, in the end, is to minimize this error term and come up with a model that can maximize the effectiveness of these predictive statistical models. Every day, as the database full of numbers and records grows, our ability to minimize this error term dramatically improves. In other words, more data equates to more predictability; imagine where we'll be in 20 years in terms of forecasting ability. It is important that we constantly utilize this ever-growing database to improve our marketing effectiveness. While these concepts are complicated, it is easy to see how with practice, they can vastly improve ones marketing prowess.

Article Title: Some of Lindsay Lohan's Problems May Have an Out of This World Explanation

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Actress, former child star, singer and current tabloid favorite Lindsay Lohan has had a rough time of it for the last several years. Her translation into adulthood after a meteoric rise to fame as a child model, actor and performer has not been an easy one. The young star of films like 'The Parent Trap', 'Mean Girls' and 'Freaky Friday' did not lose her looks or talent as some child or teen actors do. She appeared to have no trouble playing more adult roles as evidenced by her performances in movies such as 'Chapter 27', 'Georgia Rule' and 'I know Who Killed Me'. So what is the problem? What is keeping her from achieving the success she should be enjoying?
It would be easy to argue that many of Lindsay Lohan's problems come from the fact that she is part of what could easily be described as a dysfunctional family. Others might be attributed to her seemingly endless appetite for partying and substance abuse. The one thing that is obvious is that Lindsay's behavior is out of control and even those who have worked for her have voiced that concern. However, before we all judge her too harshly let's consider the fact that there may be another and very unconventional reason for the things she does. A reason that is, literally, out of this world.
I strongly believe that Lindsay Lohan may be a victim of Alien Abduction. Now before you write me off as someone just trying to get some attention by linking Space Aliens to Lindsay Lohan, please note that I am very serious about this theory and have no desire for anything except her well being. I am a fan and believe that if my theory is correct, Lindsay may be able to get back on track by facing up to what may be a very hard truth to accept and seeking help to deal with it as the root cause of her personal problems.
Let's begin by looking at her background. Lindsay was born in New York City and spent much of her youth living on Long Island. Years ago Dr. J, Allen Hynek, a scientist and former member of the panel which examined the evidence collected by Project Bluebook (the official US Government investigation into UFOs), appeared on 'The Tonight Show' with Johnny Carson. When Carson asked him where most of the UFO sightings in the USA occur, Hynek answered 'Long Island' without hesitation.
As someone who grew up in Nassau County on Long Island I can attest to the fact that UFOs were a part of my childhood. Although I did not personally see any during that time in my life, I heard about many local sightings and these incidents were not reported by less than credible witnesses. The stories were told by trained observers like volunteer firefighters and police officers. I heard these about these sightings and encounters by occasionally hanging out at the local fire house with the volunteer firefighters and other first responders who were stationed or visited there. At one point a large disc-shaped craft actually hovered above our town pool during broad daylight and changed the color of the water.
Lindsay Lohan lived in Merrick and Cold Spring Harbor during her youth. These are notorious hot spots for UFO activity. Over the years I have spoken to hundreds of people who had UFO sightings or encounters all over Long Island, so it is easy for me to make that assessment. However, just living in an area of intense UFO activity does not mean that someone like Lindsay has had any personal paranormal experiences. What does make me believe that she may have had a close encounter with Aliens is that she fits the profile.
Although she was home schooled during the last year or slightly more of her high school education according to various information sources, Lindsay attended Cold Spring Harbor High School where she was said to have excelled in science and mathematics. Many people who claim to have had Alien Abduction experiences have a strong natural affinity for those subjects. Many also live in areas of intense UFO activity and near important scientific or government facilities.
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory was founded in 1890 and is described on their web site as "a private, not-for-profit research and education institution at the forefront of molecular biology and genetics." It is also a place long rumored to be linked to government research projects of all sorts. Likewise, that area of Long Island has long been home to any number of large and small companies which work on US Government contracts. Some of the work done out there is so sensitive that there was a time when foreign diplomats and their staffs connected to the United Nations in New York City were forbidden from traveling into those areas.
Lindsay's pattern of addiction to things like tobacco and whatever else also fits the pattern of people who claim to have been contacted or even abducted by Aliens. By itself that is not evidence of anything other then bad choices, but when put together with everything known about the rest of her background if could mean that she should look into the possibility that something else may be at work here which will continue to haunt her until she explores this admittedly unconventional explanation for many of her personal problems.
Alien Abductions typically begin in early childhood. Aliens first appear to children as dead relatives, non-threatening animals or imaginary friends. UFO researchers call this 'masking'. During this time victims are visited during late night or early morning hours and sometimes taken aboard a UFO for examination or even implantation of tracking devices. Later, the Beings appear as themselves and look like short creatures with large heads and grey skin that wear tight fitting jump suits or uniforms of some type.
As the Abductees grow older they may experience more frequent Alien visitations. During these incidents females may undergo painful sexual examinations and even a fetus implantation (which is later removed). Abductees may or may not recall their Alien visitations. Some require hypnosis to remember their experiences, while others have full conscious memory of those incidents. These victims often end up sexually confused, unable to cope with everyday life and can become addicted to anything which will take away the frustration and puzzlement they feel.
Abductions can be generational, especially on a place like Long Island where UFOs have been visiting for as long as people have been there and been able to report them. It is entirely possible that if Lindsay Lohan is a victim of Alien Abduction, at least one of her parents or other close relatives may also have been victims of this phenomenon. I hope that Lindsay will take the time to consider this possibility and look into it before dismissing my theory out of hand. Many celebrities believe in the possibility of Alien Abductions and have had UFO sightings or encounters of their own. These include John Lennon, Sammy Hagar, William Shatner, Muhammad Ali, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Mick Jagger to name a few.

Over the last two decades, Dubai has established itself as a city of shopping malls, luxurious lifestyle destination and a land of opportunities for retailers from around the world. The number one global tourism destination, the prosperity of Dubai is evident from the luxurious lifestyle of its inhabitants and an escalating economy. Armed with an economic growth rate of 6-8%, a 50% budget surplus, excellent and modern architecture, a booming real estate market and construction industry, Dubai is one of the most fascinating places in the world. According to a recent report, Dubai, for the first time in its history, has seen a 9.3% increase in the number of tourists in 2012.
Real estate companies in Dubai are well known for their stunning innovations, ground breaking designs and swift completion of projects. The growth of the real estate and construction sector can also be estimated by looking at the record breaking constructions in the city. Buildings like Burj-al-Arab, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina Mall, Souk Al Bahar and many others are avid proof of the status of construction companies in Dubai.
Breathtaking architectural creations are another aspect that portrays Dubai as a dream destination on the world map. Shopping is the biggest temptation for a tourist, and Dubai being an incomparable shopping destination, houses over 70 malls, some of which are record-holders! According to a survey, Dubai is the most popular shopping destination in world beating mega cities like Paris, London, New York, Beijing etc. In the survey, 32% of the respondents voted Dubai as the number 1 shopping destination. Paris came second with 13% votes and Beijing, Istanbul and London jointly held the third position with 5%.
Rightly called the 'Shopping Capital of the Middle East,' Shopping complexes in Dubai, in addition to a long list of luxury brands and a wide variety of retail choices, have also been globally recognized for their distinctive amenities, such as a one-of-its-kind ski slope at the Mall of the Emirates and the majestic view of the iconic Burj Khalifa from the Dubai Mall – a key attribute that gives the Emirate a distinctive edge over others. The Dubai Mall, a 12.1 million sq feet shopper's paradise and a premium lifestyle destination, was also the world's most visited shopping and leisure destination, welcoming more than 52 million visitors in 2012, which is more than the number of annual tourists in New York City! The number also surpasses tourist arrivals to all landmark leisure destinations and theme parks across the world including Times Square (39.2 million), Central Park (38 million), and Niagara Falls (22.5 million)!
Not just restricted to shopping, many of these shopping complexes in Dubai are lifestyle destinations in themselves. Indoor entertainment complexes, food courts, play areas, indoor ski facilities, clustered retail sets, attached hotels and residences, theatre and multiplexes, café and eateries, life size aquariums are just a few of the attractions offered.
With so many architectural wonders in the making, it seems like shopping complexes in Dubai are in a sort of contest to outscore each other! These shopping malls and community centres blend design, access and retail offering all amenities, services and leisure options within your reach.

Directed by: Cristian Mungiu
Genre: Drama
Stars: 3.5 out of 5
In "Beyond the Hills," two young women grow up in an orphanage to become close friends. Unfortunately, the friendship between the two isa threatened when one is accorded refuge at a Romanian convent but the other prefers to remain in Germany.
In the movie, Voichita (Cosmina Stratan) and Alina (Cristina Flutur) are two women in their mid-twenties who have forged an admirable friendship. When they reunite after several years of living apart, Voichita asks Alina to stay with her in Romania. The latter, however, is reluctant to leave Germany, where she believes she has found companionship with other women and a lone priest (Valeriu Andriuta) who guides them. Voichita, who lives in a monastery, also believes that God is the cure for the loneliness she had been feeling all along. The presence of her childhood friend in the monastery forces her to reexamine her beliefs, something her friends do not view too kindly.
It is interesting to note that most of the scenes in "Beyond the Hills" are based on real events that took place in Romania a few years back. The film is laced with occasional black humor, an example of which is the scene where a medical doctor sends Alina back to the monastery with the instruction to read the scriptures for her ailments. While the movie may be viewed as a gentle mockery on religion, the major themes it deals with are rather serious matters. The overriding theme here is that religion is generally a good thing, but it can also be a devastating tool in the hands of the wrong people.
One of the major themes in the film is that of misguided obedience. This is a subject that has been examined by numerous filmmakers, but American and European filmmakers have handled it very differently. To a great extent, the Americans have been fascinated with the cultic relationship between charismatic leaders and their single victims. Examples of movies in this genre include "The Master" and "Martha Marcy May." Some critics opine that this is due to the absence of large-scale social control in America. On the other hand, the Europeans are well versed with the cult-like social control of the masses. Few films capture this fact like "Beyond the Hills" does.
Voichita, a novice in a Romanian Orthodox Monastery, wants her friend to stay a little bit longer in the monastery with the hope that she too may become a nun one day. This sets the mood for the emotional and spiritual clashes for the rest of the movie. The monastery, which is a religious place, is filled with serious social control. Perhaps this is a condemnation of the religious extremism that characterized the Romanian totalitarian regime of the period. While some may argue that this treatment is not new, and this may be so given that movies such as "The White Ribbon" have dealt with similar themes, Mungiu deals with it in a rather interesting manner.
The friendship between the two is also revealed to have a romantic angle. In fact, the two shared romantic feelings long before Voichita decided to enter the monastery. When the two friends prepare to go to sleep on their first meeting together, Voichita insists on separate beds but Alina wants them to share one. Her rubbing of oil on Alina's skin is filled with palpable sexual tension, something that Voichita struggles to ignore. It is her adherence to the strict laws of Romanian Orthodoxy that sets the stage for this reluctance.
Mungiu's brand of storytelling is slow, albeit effective. He decided to let the story take its time and absorb itself in the intricacies of the daily routines of monastic life. The rhythms of the film clearly reveal Alina's feelings of confinement that conflict with Voichita's sense of calmness and belongingness. These feelings are revealed objectively because the director decided to let the story speak for itself. The long, deliberate takes of the film may be demanding, but they achieve their intended purpose and are clearly engrossing. Here, the genius of the cinematographer Oleg Mutu must be given credit for a job well done.
Ultimately, this film is both emphatic and analytical. In the hands of other people, it would have been easy for the movie to come out sensational, but Mungiu and his team knew how to avoid that. If the ingenuity shown in making "Beyond the Hills" and "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" is anything to go buy, then movie fans can wait with abated breath for any movie Cristian Mungiu decides to work on.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
There is hardly a film in the American oeuvre more classically iconic than "American Graffiti." When George Lucas proposed the project to a skeptical Universal Studios in 1971, his reputation was that of an oddball director who lacked mainstream appeal. Indeed, Lucas only developed the story after being challenged by his fellow director Francis Ford Coppola to produce a feature film that would appeal to a mainstream audience, as opposed to the cultish, niche-market films he had made up to that point, such as "THX 1138."
Securing a budget for a major motion film was out of the question from the very start. Lucas had shopped his spec script around Hollywood for months and met with nothing but rejection before he got approval from Universal. Eventually, Lucas managed to secure the royal sum of $775,000, which was enough to finance only twenty-eight days of actual shooting. It probably came as a big surprise to the decision makers at Universal when the worldwide revenue topped $140 million, making "American Graffiti" one of the most profitable films of all time. And so, here are five fun facts from behind the scenes of one of America's favorite movies.
After shooting on the film was wrapped up, all of the cars featured in the film were put up for sale through the Classified section of the San Francisco Chronicle and other local papers. Only the 1958 Chevy Impala found a buyer, who paid only a few hundred dollars for it. The other vehicles-a yellow deuce coupe and a white Thunderbird-which were all in good condition, failed to move, even at prices in the low thousands.
When Toad first appears in the film, he's riding a light Vespa scooter. After a few seconds, he crashes the Vespa into a conveniently placed trash can. This crash isn't in the script and was totally unplanned. Apparently, Charles Martin Smith, the actor who plays Toad, was unaccustomed to using the controls on the scooter and just lost control. Shooting continued because George Lucas encouraged his actors to "live" their characters, so he arranged the shooting around his actors' improvised lines and actions. In some cases, he even encouraged the actors to choose their own marks and arranged the shot around them.
Ron Howard and Charles Martin Smith were the only two actual teenagers who played important roles in "American Graffiti." Most of the other credited actors in the film were in their twenties. Mackenzie Phillips was twelve at the time of the filming, while Harrison Ford celebrated his thirtieth birthday during production. Unfortunately, the celebration ended when Ford was arrested for his part in a bar fight and taken to jail. Ford was also evicted from his hotel room as a result of the incident.
Speaking of twelve year-olds, Mackenzie Phillips, the young actress who played the annoying teenie-bopper Carol, was so young that the labor laws of California did not permit filming on the schedule her part called for. Producer Gary Kurtz worked around the problem by getting himself assigned as her legal guardian for the duration of the production. Under the law, an extended work schedule is permitted for minors who are employed by their parents-in a family restaurant, say-or other legal stewards.
Executives at Universal Studios who were charged with approving the project initially objected to the title "American Graffiti." As they explained to George Lucas, the title was too obscure. The Universal brass disliked the working title so much that they even compiled a long list of sixty alternative titles, including: "Rock around the Block" and "Another Slow Night in Modesto." Universal's stated concern was that Lucas might be requesting a shooting budget for an Italian-language film about feet.
The production of "American Graffiti" was hastily arranged, rushed to completion and meanly starved for money by skeptical studio executives. The filming was beset by mishaps, threatened with legal action and leaned heavily on hastily improvised scenes and dialogue. In addition to Harrison Ford's trouble at the hotel, Richard Dreyfuss suffered a nasty gash to his forehead the night before his close-up scenes were shot, the city of San Rafael rescinded permission to shoot and the shoestring budget, combined with the hectic pace of filming, all but guaranteed that the film would be hard to edit and shot through with anachronisms and continuity errors.
Somehow, despite such a plague of troubles, "American Graffiti" rose above the pangs of its birth to assume its place at the heart of any American movie must-watch list. The film has inspired many other movies and the television show "Happy Days"-also starring Ron Howard-and has sparked a wave of nostalgia for the perceived simplicity of life in the small towns of the good old 1950s and '60s.

The invention of the vacuum cleaner has helped many of us in a variety of ways. Cleaning has been made easier with the help of this appliance that sucks the dirt out of every nook and corner, from dust accumulating carpets to hard to reach corners. It has truly contributed to cutting cleaning time in half. With a vacuum cleaner, I suppose you could do away with other cleaning equipment like the broom or brush. All you need is to plug it and tug at it while you move around the house moving it from one point to another to ensure that dust and small particles are sucked by the mechanism.
While many people may think that a home could not do without a screw driver or a hammer for that matter, I would have to include the convenience that a handheld vacuum cleaner offers especially if you have kids in your home.
We all know that kids can be too downright hyperactive and they create a lot of mess. While we may want to train our kids to keeping things inside the house tidy and clean, quite often we cannot tolerate the length of time it may take for them to tidy things up. Take for example your child accidentally spilling a big pack of nuts on the carpet. I believe it would take quite a while for your kid to pick it all up. Sure you can sweep it with a broom but what if some of the nuts were accidentally crushed because it was accidentally stepped upon on. I don't think you can remove all of the small particles especially the very minute ones that are hardly visible to the naked eye. Here is where the handiness of a vacuum cleaner comes in. Although you could use an ordinary vacuum for this, it would be more convenient to have a handheld one for you could just bring it anywhere around the house without the inconvenience of lugging around the big upright kind.
Because it is lightweight, its application is not confined to uses inside the home. You can use it even to clean the interior of your car. Now, you wouldn't have to go to the car wash to pay for your car to be vacuumed. You can now do it yourself saving you on precious dollars. You even assure yourself of a good clean since you did it by yourself.
Having a handheld vacuum offers a lot of convenience and can make things way much easier for you.

Many people nowadays have cooling systems inside their homes to help combat against the scorching heat that summers may bring. The market is now filled with numerous brands and types of air conditioners that are affordable ranging from the window type, split type and the portable ones that are slowly gaining popularity in homes as well.
A portable unit may seem big and bulky at first glance since it is around 30 inches tall and weighs about 80 lbs. The great thing about it though is that it is a self-contained component that does not require any installation because it can stand by itself on the floor without the need for your wall or window to contain it. Most are also equipped with wheels for easy mobility.
One of the advantages that a portable air conditioner offers is that you don't need to create a hole on your wall or block a window to accommodate the unit. You can easily transfer it from one room to another eliminating the need to install numerous window type air conditioners in several rooms. It can also help you save on electric bills if you will just be using it in a room instead of switching on the entire centralized system.
It just has a downside of costing more than your regular window type air conditioner. Also, although it has a similar cooling capacity as that with split type systems it can sometimes be noisy compared to the split type kind whose compressor is located outside. If noise really matters for you, look for portable air conditioners that make lesser amount of noise.
You may be wondering if a portable air conditioner is capable enough to cool big and large rooms. Actually, it all depends upon the model. You need to take a look at the cooling capacity of each unit and check the room size that it could productively cool.
Since air conditioners consume a lot of electricity, it would be wise to choose a unit that is energy efficient and has a lower electrical usage. Today the standard and acceptable energy efficiency ratio should be at least 10.
It may come as a shock to you but portable air conditioners are reasonably priced. Their prices have dropped considerably through the years and are not costly anymore. Of course, you can expect units with a higher cooling capacity to cost more. If you want a cooling system but don't plan on investing in a centralized cooling setup, purchasing a portable air conditioner may be a good option.

Majority of households nowadays in one way or another have air conditioners. Many houses especially in tropical countries have air conditioners. Types may range from window types, split types and the centralized ones for big establishments or for those who could afford. Having an air conditioner is indeed an advantage especially if we need to cool ourselves from the hot humid weather during summer. But, the thing is having an air conditioner can shoot up electricity costs as compared to utilizing only an electric fan.
There are a lot of factors that you have to consider that would affect your air conditioning electric bill. The first obvious factor would be your location. The type of weather you have in your country would greatly affect how hard your air conditioner is expected to work. If you live in a place with a naturally hot climate, your air conditioner is expected to work twice as hard compared to one that is being utilized in a home with a mild climate because it has to maintain coolness and comfort.
The energy efficiency ratio of your air conditioner is also another important consideration. Manufacturers of appliances worldwide are now expected to include with the appliance a tag indicating the appliance's energy efficiency and electric usage. Look for an air conditioner that would use minimal electricity to help you save on your electrical bill. Having an old model of an air conditioner that is like a decade old should call for you to changing it with a new one.
It is also important that you buy an air conditioner in the size proportionate to the room size where you will be installing the unit. The tendency would be that if you were to utilize a small air conditioner in a very big room, it wouldn't be able to give the adequate coolness and comfort it is suppose to provide. In addition, the unit will have to exert double the effort to make the room cool which means higher electrical usage. It is true that larger units cost more but it would definitely save you on usage costs in the long run.
Of course there is one factor that you cannot control and that is your local cost of electricity. Saving on energy is really up to you. You can do other things as well like having your air conditioner filter regularly cleaned or replaced when necessary which could also help you in minimizing your cost for electrical usage.

For anybody who is into cooking or spends quite some time in the kitchen concocting delicious meals, they would have to agree with me that a pressure cooker is an important appliance that everybody should have in their very own kitchen. Though this cooking appliance may look somewhat like your ordinary pot in the kitchen, it comes with a specially designed lid that seals the cooker completely trapping steam and allowing pressure to build up inside. A higher cooking temperature leads to shorter cooking time.
The use of a pressure cooker offers numerous advantages. First and foremost as compared to the other usual and conventional methods of cooking, food cooked in pressure cookers are able to hold on to most of its vitamins and minerals because it consumes less water and requires shorter cooking time.
Utilizing a pressure cooker also enables you to cook food at half the time up to almost 70 percent faster. With a pressure cooker, you just put all the necessary ingredients and leave it to cook giving you the luxury of time to do or attend to other important tasks.
Using a pressure cooker is also energy efficient. Since it requires lesser time to cook the food then it also reduces the amount of energy consumed.
You can also expect the kitchen atmosphere to be cooler since the heat is being trapped inside the pressure cooker as compared to the traditional stove top and conventional oven used for cooking.
Expect a much cleaner kitchen for food won't be splattering around as it is cooked and sealed in a covered pot.
You will discover that you can find numerous brands of pressure cookers that are affordable and of good quality. If you have a big family, opt to buy a larger model that could accommodate more than enough.
You can find pressure cookers to be made of stainless steel or aluminum material. Stainless steel would still be the preferred option because of its better cooking results and good quality. If you do not want the hassle of transferring food from one cooking pan to the pressure cooker, you may opt to buy the heavy duty stainless steel pressure cookers. These could be used to sauté the ingredients before subjecting them to cooking through pressure.
The use of a pressure cooker really has numerous advantages. If you will be using the pressure cooker for the first time, read first its user manual to ensure safety when using it.

Water as we all know is life. It is very important to help human beings sustain and live, other living creatures depend upon it, as well as most current industries and companies rely on it to help them in whatever form of production they may be engaged in. There are definitely countless things that we couldn't do or accomplish if it were not for water. But let us stick to how important water is to sustain human life.
Everyday, we drink several glasses of water (correct me if I am wrong but in fact we are suppose to drink at least eight glasses of it a day). Man cannot live for more than three days without water so water is very essential in our lives.
Our body may need water but we can't just drink water when we are not sure of its source. Raw water is not fit for drinking because it can contain numerous contaminants, germs and bacteria that can be hazardous for our health. There have been lots of cases when people have consumed contaminated water which led them to contracting diseases like cholera and others that had led to complications and for some even to their death. True, drinking contaminated water can very well lead to your death if not taken action upon on when complications begin to occur.
But thanks to the innovations of science, the water purifier has been created to make our lives a whole lot easier. This device purifies and filters the water from contaminants like viruses, bacteria, chemicals and algae not visible to the naked eye that can be very dangerous. The water purifier assures us that our drinking water is safe and potable.
The market is filled with numerous types of water purifiers utilizing various purification procedures. The various techniques include boiling, reverse osmosis, carbon filtering, distilling and electrode ionization among others.
The most common type of water purification process would be boiling which you could easily do in your home. Though this won't entail for you to invest in any type of equipment, it can sometimes be a hassle.
Another common system would be carbon filtration. Toxic compounds and contaminants are removed as raw water is made to pass through activated charcoal. In reverse osmosis water is made to go through a semi permeable membrane through some sort of mechanical pressure.
Irregardless of which system that works best for you, it is important to ensure safe drinking water for healthy living.

Since time in memorial, people have always adorned themselves with jewelry to make themselves look more beautiful and to enhance their looks. It has played an important role in various cultures and religions all over the world. Jewelry has through the years continued to be a fundamental accent to the over all look of people worldwide. In ancient times, jewelry has even been used to classify the people based on their class or status in society with the royalty and the rich being able to adorn themselves with expensive and precious jewels while the middle class and poor accessorizing themselves with only those that they could afford.
Currently, adorning the body with jewelry has grown in demand with the body being used as a clean canvass being decorated upon with accessories to enhance more its beauty. Embellishing the body has evolved into an art. You can find people wearing jewelry on their eyebrows, noses, navels and even nipples aside from the traditional jewelries that ornamented the ears, neck, wrists, fingers and ankles.
You would have to agree with me that earrings could definitely bring attention to your pretty face. A necklace could also draw interest to a beautiful neck outline and could give the final touch of sophistication to any dress or sexy top. Bracelets could draw attention to your elegantly sculpted arms and smooth skin. A ring could definitely prettily adorn a gorgeously manicured hand. Anklets can make your legs look elegant with a carefully matched shoe. Body jewelry truly helps us enhance the different parts of our body.
Jewelry on the nose is also gaining popularity. A simple stud with or without a stone would look nice on the nose. Others also decorate their eyebrows with a jewelry ring. While it may look painful, navel and nipple jewelry are continuously growing in popularity especially among the youth, rockers, and the free spirited individuals looking for some sense of adventure.
When wearing body jewelry though, it is important for you to ensure that you are not allergic to the jewelry so be aware with what material it is made of. When having a part of the body pierced, ensure that sterile equipments are utilized to prevent possible infections that may lead to certain complications in the future.
When wearing jewelry, it is also important that you don't overdo it. Wear only enough to accent your look and avoid wearing too much to avoid a cluttered look.
Wearing jewelry now is more than just trying to enhance your good looks, it in itself trying to project your style and personal statement.

When choosing jewelry that we may want to buy or use, there is one important factor that you need to consider. Aside from knowing if you can afford the jewelry, or how it matches your outfits or how beautiful it looks on you, it is essential that you take into consideration you allergic reactions toward certain metals. What purpose would the gorgeously crafted jewelry serve if it just spends most of its time in your jewelry box because you cannot use it to avoid your skin allergies?
Others may have experience certain skin rashes after having their ears pierced. There are also those who get red lines of rashes on their necks after having worn a necklace. There may be even those that develop itchy blisters on their fingers caused by the rings they may have worn. There are so many people who in one way or another have experienced having rashes or skin related allergies because of the jewelry they may have worn. These jewelries may have some certain metal content to which their skin reacted to.
There are really those people who are born with very sensitive skin and have allergic reactions to certain types of metal. It is important for you to be aware of your skin type and to be in the know of certain allergies that you may have or are prone to in order to avoid skin related problems.
Quite often, majority of the skin allergic reactions or rashes people have because of their jewelry is caused by the nickel content in them. Nickel is used on almost all types of metal used for cooking utensils, money coins, jewelry and others. You can normally find nickel content on jewelries that are silver and white gold except for sterling silver. Yellow gold does not have nickel in it although its 10 carat type may have small traces of it.
You will know that you are allergic to nickel for your skin gets red and itchy when you come in contact with a metal with nickel in it like maybe a bracelet, ring or necklace. If you would continue to ignore this, it could later develop to have water blisters that often get scaly and would peel off. It is important that you try to look for jewelry that would be more suited for your sensitive skin type. You could always find jewelry that is hypoallergenic. Some jewelry shops even offer a new method called rhodium plating which coats the jewelry to prevent your skin from nickel exposure.

Do you feel that your family needs to be spending some quality time? Are you planning for a vacation for your family? If you are, then this would be the perfect opportunity to spending some quality time with your spouse and children.
When you will be planning a family vacation do not make the decisions yourself. It is a family vacation so it is best to involve all the members of the family even on the planning stage. Have a talk with the family and discuss the places that you would want to be your destination. Would you be traveling within the country or outside of the country? Here, you try to reach a compromise so that everybody will enjoy and have a great time in your chosen vacation spot.
When you have made the decision already, consider if you will be able to work around your budget. Would it be enough for accommodation, transportation, food and other expenses? Try checking also the schedules of the people. Ensure that during your leisure trip your kids will have no school and you will be able to obtain a leave of absence from work. Decide on what mode of transportation you will be using. Of course if it is outside the country you have no choice but to take the plane. But if you will just be traveling within the country would you consider driving there yourself, taking public transportation perhaps like the bus or the train, or better yet taking a ferry boat if you need to cross to another island.
Find more about the place that you would be visiting. Get information on the weather or climate especially if you will be traveling abroad so that you will be prepared on what clothes to bring.
When packing make a check list to ensure that you wouldn't leave anything important. Store separately important documents like your passports and secure your money and valuable items.
Inform your neighbors of your whereabouts or better yet just inform them that you won't be around for a period of time since you will be going on a vacation. Make certain that you lock your house to keep it secure and that all household equipments and appliances are turned off.
Nothing beats planning if you want to give your family one of the best family vacations. For me though what is more important is that you can relax, enjoy and have a great time. In the end, what matters most is the time you spend with the people close to your heart.

Adventure awaits those who would opt to travel on the road. What is great about any road trip is the various cities and towns that you will be passing by along the way. You get to visit more places while you are on your way to your destination. You also get to see not only the beautiful scenery but meet new people as well. You could even make a stop if you want to. But like any other trip, you can't expect it to be smooth sailing all the way. One way or another, problems are likely to occur so it is important that you are on your guard and be prepared for whatever may happen along the way.
If you are going on a road trip the first thing that you would need to check would be the vehicle that you will be driving. It is essential to have it evaluated by the mechanic if it is in good running condition to bring you to your destination. Do a routine check on the tires, oil, engine, etc. Don't forget to bring along a spare tire and some tools just in case you may encounter some mechanical problems along the way. Always have some gas in the tank. You may never know where the next gas stop would be along the way.
If you will be traveling with other people, take turns to drive so that the other person would get to rest especially if it is a very long drive. Driving can be tiring especially if you plan on driving non-stop. If the driver feels sleepy and no one can take his place it is advisable to take a stop to avoid accidents on the road. It is imperative also that the driver is not drunk when driving.
To avoid interruptions, stick to a travel plan. If you want to arrive on time in your destination, map out how frequent you will be stopping and on what points you will be making a stop. If you don't want the trip to be delayed, avoid making unnecessary stops.
Bring an emergency kit along with you. Have with you medicines, extra food, a blanket, and a whistle to alert others in case of emergencies. It is ideal also to bring scissors. You never know you may need to cut something like maybe breaking free from your seatbelt when you get stuck. A hammer would also be useful in breaking the glass in case you get trapped inside the vehicle.
Lastly, to ensure everybody's safety avoid giving rides to hitchhikers. You may never know if you are giving a ride to a serial killer or a maniac. It is best to be on the safe side so that you will reach your destination safely and securely.

Traveling is a time for leisure and we would want it to be hassle free. This is our time to relax and break free from the problems that may have been bothering us. This is the time for us to re-energize and refresh ourselves. Even the seasoned traveler, in one way or another, has encountered problems like losing wallets or having them stolen. I cannot assure you that you wouldn't encounter any vacation trip problems but by planning and being well prepared you can achieve to having that stress free vacation.
I guess one of the major concerns in traveling would actually be your pocket or travel money. Without money how would you pay for your expenses let alone purchase a souvenir. It is important that you safely secure your money, budget it wisely and avoid overspending to prevent any future problems.
Most travelers store their money, valuables and passports in pouches specifically designed for travel purposes. This is a very good alternative to the traditional wallet for these pouches are fastened or draped around your neck or around your waist beneath your clothes so as not to be visible to potential pick pockets.
It is advisable that you do not bring with you too much cash and instead opt to utilize your credit card in making payments for accommodation, food, and other purchases. If it is necessary for you to bring such an amount of cash, I suggest that you carry just enough for what you need during the day and stash the rest of your cash in the hotel vault for security.
Do not put all your money in one location. If possible, spread them out so that in case you lose some from theft, you still have money to last the trip. You can also put in this extra wallet other credit cards and ATM cards for untoward incidents. Having an extra wallet stored in your suitcase or travel bag would be ideal.
When you will be gone for a long vacation, inform your relatives and friends of your itinerary so that they will be aware of how and where to contact you in case of emergencies. Always keep at home a photocopy of your passport, important documents and identification papers.
If you take certain medications, make sure that you bring along with you enough to last you for the entire trip to avoid the hassle of buying the medicines elsewhere. There might be the possibility that their pharmacies don't carry the medicine you may need.
With careful planning, you are not far from having a great vacation.
