The one major disadvantage that comes with the territory when you decide to work for yourself from home is that you won't have a regular income. Some months may be better than others and while you may indeed earn more than you would working as an employee, there are no guarantees.

Of course there are no guarantees with any job. Even a relatively safe employed position can disappear at any time these days, so it pays to bear this in mind if you are nervous about the prospect of working for yourself.

But nevertheless it does pay to be prepared for the lean times because you are bound to get them from time to time. As a self employed person no one will be there to hold your hand and take the required amount of tax and National Insurance from you each month. As each month goes by you need to put this money in a separate account so the tax bill doesn't come as a huge surprise to you.

But you need to go beyond this as well. For example you may earn £3,000 one month and feel as if you are doing really well. But there is no guarantee that you will still be doing as well the following month. This is harder to judge if you haven't been self employed for very long, because you won't have a broader picture of how much money you can bring in. But you should certainly look at saving some money each and every month, no matter how much or how little you bring in.

This is because there will be lean months and you want to know that you have enough money put away to keep going without any problems during those times. For example in recent months we have been going through a recession here in the UK. Many people have been struggling through it but there is no doubt that those who have savings put by will have a cushion they can use to get through it all financially - more easily than those who don't.

Your business will have both good and bad times ahead because that is the nature of life. But if you prepare for the bad times before they arrive they won't be as bad in the first place. For example you might miscalculate the amount of tax you need to put by and be faced with a slightly bigger tax bill than you thought you would have. Alternatively you may lose a client or two, and while you can replace them it will take some time to do so. That means operating on a smaller income until you find those replacements.

So you can see that preparing and planning for the lean times before they actually occur is a very good idea to put into practice. It leads to less stress and smoother times ahead because you will be less likely to have to worry about money. And that can only be a good thing for you and your home business.

Working from home can be enormously isolating. If you have a busy day ahead of you it is quite possible to get up, get dressed, have breakfast, start work and then go through the entire day without coming into contact with another human being. And when you finish work you might be so tired you end up just watching some TV before heading off to bed in an exhausted state.

You might be able to earn more working from home, but your social life can suffer as a result. And it isn't just your social life either – you can miss out on those important interactions with clients and work colleagues also.

Depending on the nature of the work that you do you might well send and receive email to and from various people during the day and is a form of contact with the outside world. You may also have telephone contacts throughout the day to ease any feeling of loneliness you may experience. It might benefit you to find some homeworking forums and similar sites online where you can learn from and interact with other people who are in a similar situation as yourself.

It should be pointed out here that this isn't necessarily for networking or business purposes. It can be good to spend a few minutes during a coffee break or at lunchtime exploring a forum that has other members who also work from home. Simply saying hello and interacting with other people like this can help to alleviate the feeling of isolation you get when you don't go out to work each day.

Most forums are split into different sections so you can immediately go to the section that appeals to you the most. Depending on the nature of the forum there might be any number of different areas to explore. For example most will have a general area for all kinds of discussions, and also specific areas where you can chat about what it is like to work from home. Another good example of a specific topic area involves information and advice concerning the practicalities of working from home – for example tax and bookkeeping.

One forum we explored recently even had a coffee break section. This was specifically designed for home workers to visit whenever they were having a coffee break. It is essentially the virtual version of the office coffee break, and it provides a nice change of pace from your normal workload.

As you can see, there is a lot to be gained from visiting homeworking forums from time to time. You should make sure they don't encroach on your working day though. Allocate a specific portion of time to visiting them and don't let them overstay their welcome. They can be immensely useful but you should keep them to a limited area of your working day.

The best idea is to start by finding one that you like the look of, joining it and seeing if it will work for your needs. If you don't like it go and find another one.

The home working industry is populated by plenty of people who are making a good living working from home. Unfortunately for every such success story there are others where individuals have been conned out of money in some way by unscrupulous people offering home working. If you are thinking of starting to work from home and you are looking for the ideal opportunity to suit your skills, make sure you don't become the next victim of these home working scams.

The good news is that while thousands of people get taken in by cons and scams every year, it is quite easy to avoid them. There are two main rules that you must always put into practice in this situation. If you flout either one of them you stand a much higher chance of being tricked. If you stick by them both you should be quite safe.

The first rule is that if something sounds absolutely unbelievably wonderful, it is probably not. Do you really think it is possible to earn thousands of pounds a week for doing virtually nothing? It is true that there are ways to earn that kind of money online for very little work – but it usually still involves a lot of work to set things up to begin with. We're talking about making money from websites here, and it is a valid way to work online.

So if someone tells you that you can earn that kind of money – or any kind of money at all – without doing a single day's real work to earn it, they are lying. It's as simple as that. And the chances are you will have to part with some cash to find out that they have lied to you.

The second rule is that you should never part with any money in order to be considered for a job. The classic example is the type of ad that asks you to send £30 or more to receive a 'home working pack'. The contents of this pack will vary – if you ever receive one at all that is – but it always adds up to nothing of any use for your money.

The truth is that you can get work that is based at home yourself. You don't need to pay anyone else any money to get it. You just need to figure out what it is you want to do and then find a way of earning money from it.

For example you could sell things on eBay. You could write articles and blog posts for other people. You could do a million and one other things. But you can do all of them – and find the work – yourself. You don't have to rely on paying someone else money for something that is probably too good to be true.

This is where the difference lies between people who make a success out of home working and those who fail. Those who think it is easy will probably fall by the wayside. Those who are prepared to put the work in to succeed will probably do so, and make some real money.

How good are you at keeping business records? If you are recoiling at the mere thought of it, you would have to change your ways if you want to develop a successful home run business.

When you are self employed you are responsible for sorting out your own tax and National Insurance. But there is no one looking over your shoulder to prompt you to get this done and keep records throughout the year. Once the old tax year ends you will receive notification from the tax office that you need to fill out a tax return. But after that you won't hear a peep out of them until it's time to submit it and pay your first chunk of tax at the end of January the following year.

Many business people – particularly those who are new to business – have come unstuck through not keeping up with paperwork and failing to realise how much tax they are due to pay. And this is precisely why you need to keep regular records so you know exactly where you stand with your business.

But it isn't just the tax bill aspect that makes this so important. If someone was to ask you now how well your business was doing, could you honestly answer them? If you are sitting there among piles of work to be done you would think your business was quite healthy. It may well look that way, but if you don't have any up to date records of income and expenditure your ideas may differ greatly from the reality of things.

Keeping records doesn't have to be hard either. Provided you do it on a weekly – or even a daily – basis, you can easily keep up with what is required. And it isn't just necessary for official purposes. You will find that you can run a better business through keeping thorough records for yourself.

For example, the tax office doesn't need to know – nor does it care – how you find your new customers. But you should care, because if you know the answer you will be able to find more new customers more cheaply and quickly in the future.

Let's say you advertise in two different places and get 20 new customers a month. You might think that is a good result. But if you keep accurate records you might well realise that 15 of those customers come from one of your adverts and just five from the other. And you pay exactly the same for each advert. This knowledge – knowledge which comes from keeping paperwork about this aspect of your business, will tell you that perhaps you could ditch the less successful ad and find somewhere else to advertise instead. This could lead to even better results in the future.

Complete and accurate financial records are a must, so always make the effort to keep whatever paperwork you need to have when you are running your own business. It can make a real difference to how successful you are in the long term.

When it comes to working from home you have two broad options to choose from. You could set up a business of your own from scratch. This is a good option if you have a particular skill that you can make use of. But there is also a second option which is to buy a franchise.

A franchise is basically a company that makes its goods or services available to other people to sell for them. So you might get the advantage of being able to sell under a well known name and have all the tools and support you need to become a success. You still need to put the hard work in though – and you will also have to invest in it financially. This makes the decision on what franchise you should choose even more important to get right; you could be investing thousands of pounds of your own money in it.

So where do you start? The best place, as always, is with you. What do you like doing? What are you good at? What could you see yourself doing on a daily basis? All of these questions will help to steer you towards the right franchise, so make sure you take the time to consider each one carefully. Buying a franchise is not something that should be done on the spur of the moment – you need to think it through because it will require a large investment of your time as well as money.

When you are thinking about your skills think about any that you have gained in your personal life as well as in your career. Many people make the mistake of focusing only on their professional life. But you might do something as a hobby that would provide the key to a successful franchising opportunity.

Once you have a reasonable idea of the basic area you would like to work in, start looking around for potential opportunities. One of the best places to start in a casual sense is online. There are websites on the internet that bring together information on all kinds of opportunities in the franchising area; these can get you started on the right track to finding more detailed information. Think about whether you want to use your home as a base for your business – you might be able to work online or you could go out and about to meet your clients. Which one would suit you the most?

Some websites which focus on the franchise industry allow you to search their database to find potential matches. You might also want to think about the amount of money you can afford to invest in a franchise opportunity. None of them are that cheap but there is a big difference between investing 10,000 and 50,000!

Take your time in searching for something that is right for you. Time invested in your future now will pay dividends later on when you are successfully working from home and have a thriving franchise business working for you.

If you have children and you are considering working from home, it might seem like a wonderful option. But you do need to consider all the angles before you take the plunge.

The bonus is that instead of having to find a child minder while you go out to work each day, you will be at home with your kids instead of missing out on everything they get up to. But how much work do you honestly think you will be able to do while they are getting under your feet?

Parents know that kids don't run to timetables. If you ask them to play quietly for two hours while you get some important work done, the chances are they will forget what you said ten seconds after you said it. That is to be expected when it comes to children, unfortunately this means that working from home effectively could be very difficult.

It's not so bad if your children are of school age. Between the hours of around 9am and 3pm you could reasonably expect to be able to work uninterrupted. But you need to be disciplined and not get sidetracked into doing anything else. After all, if you were working outside the home you wouldn't be able to stop and put the washing on or go and empty the dishwasher.

But even if you could get everything done during school hours, it can be a problem during school holidays. Just imagine trying to keep your business going during the six week summer break. Could you do it? Could you fit in your work hours in the evenings once the kids are in bed asleep? Supposing you have a deadline and you cannot fit the work in because one of your children is poorly?

You can see that working from home can actually be more complicated than working for someone else in some cases. This is why it needs careful planning and a healthy dose of realism before you take the plunge. Depending on the ages of your children and whether or not you have a partner who can help out in this situation, it might be that working from home won't work for you at all. Think about all the options and what you would do in certain situations before you make the change.

This isn't meant to sound negative or impossible. Plenty of parents can and do work successfully from home every single day. Indeed, if you plan ahead, be realistic and have back up plans just in case something should go wrong – which you can bet it will sooner or later – you can become a successful home working parent.

You just need to be prepared and be ready to tackle a changing timetable depending on what your kids might be doing. This is done more easily when you work from home – provided you are ready for it and you are happy to do so. If you would find it a huge challenge then perhaps working from home isn't for you.

Every business has competition. And competition is really healthy when you think about it. It inspires you to do better and keep on improving so you can achieve more with every passing day.

When you are in the planning stages of setting up your business, you will need to do a lot of serious thinking to make sure that you are heading in the right direction. Many people are in such a hurry to set up their business and start selling their products or services that they run into problems later on. Take time to plan carefully while you can – it could make a big difference to the level of success you experience.

The need to stand apart from your competitors is vital. If you offer the same as they do and there is nothing to differentiate you from them, you will have trouble maintaining a healthy business that goes from strength to strength. Just think about how you can stand out from the crowd. It can be done in a number of ways.

The most important thing to realise is that this exercise is not a one off affair that should be thought about when you are setting up your business to begin with. It should be an ongoing effort that sees you making changes and developing your business more and more over time. You should constantly analyse your business and ask yourself what is working and what isn't. What can you change or improve to get even better results?

This is true regardless of how successful your business might be. It is easy to sit back and enjoy things when people are choosing you over the competition. But you can be sure that your competition will be working hard to figure out how they can take your place. If you aren't working to keep ahead of them you will soon fall behind.

Look at every aspect of your business to see where you can creep ahead. Can you make changes and improvements to your customer service to stand apart from the rest? How about trying to develop add on products that go alongside your main offering? Could you adjust your pricing to offer a better deal, or bundle other additional offers in with your main one?

A lot will depend on the nature of what you sell. But services should be regularly reviewed in the same way as are products. It doesn't matter what kind of commodity or service you are selling – all that matters is that you are offering more than your competition in some way. And remember that this doesn't necessarily mean in a monetary sense.

In the end the most important thing is to focus on that ongoing requirement to learn more about your business and your customers. The more you do this the more knowledge you will gain about your business. Better that you know it inside out than your competitors?

You might be surprised to learn that knowledge really is power, and it can help you to create a solid and lasting business to be proud of.

When you buy a franchise opportunity, you are buying much more than a just a business. A business which stands a higher chance of success compared to people who choose to start a business on their own. You are also buying into a business which has strict control and regulations as to what you can and can not do.

The franchisor will insist on certain quality standards being maintained. This is so that the end consumers receive a high standard product delivered in a way that they are accustomed to at other outlets.

You will be allowed to make small changes in the way you run your business compared to other franchisees, but the business will have to operate to a high standard and all the major decisions on the management of the business have already been taken.

Why is it like this? The franchisor has probably spent many years if not decades creating a business that works and can be sold successfully as a franchise. They have usually invested heavily in marketing materials, advertising campaigns, shop floor layouts logos and branding.

A poor franchisee can have a very detrimental affect on the group as a whole. The press loves it when something goes wrong in business and is quick to spread the news. It is essential for the franchisor to spend some quality time on the poor performing franchisees as the franchise network is as strong as the weakest link.

In return for all this support and ongoing training programmes the franchisee will have to pay a franchise fee at the outset and ongoing license (royalty) fees. These payments can make a huge dent in the profitability of the business so it is essential that you choose a franchise opportunity that not only has high margins but also decent turnover.

In the franchise business a prospective buyer has to tread extremely carefully. Not all franchises are the same. The market place is also evolving very rapidly. What may have worked as a business only a few years ago might not be a viable business opportunity now.

It is imperative that the franchisee takes advice about the current market place before buying into any new franchise. Trade reports are very helpful in this capacity and can be found very easily by a qualified accountant.

A decent franchise agreement is also essential. This should protect the franchisee as well as the franchisor. Too many agreements are biased towards the franchisor and these should be avoided at all costs. If you are not legal speak savvy then it is very important to get advice from a franchise lawyer.

Some franchise businesses which were very successful in the past are now struggling and a few will fold. Make sure that your accountant has a look at the financial reports of the franchise business that you are thinking of buying into. You need a strong franchisor on your side for many years to come.

There are even restrictions in the franchise agreement which cover in detail the processes involved in selling your business. The franchisor has to be satisfied that the buyer will make a suitable candidate for the business. They will charge the franchisee a fixed figure or a percentage of the final price achieved to cover their costs associated with creating new legal agreements, helping with the smooth transfer, doing credit checks on the potential buyer and providing long term support to someone who might not have any experience in managing a business.

What happens when a franchisor rolls out a new product that fails spectacularly? Usually the greatest loss is incurred by the franchise network. It is essential that these products are trialed in certain locations before a nation roll out.

Often the need for profit and the desire for turnover can lead to conflicts between the franchisee and the franchisor. This is usually due to the way royalty payments are calculated in the franchise agreement. In some case the franchisee could be forced into increasing their business even though they are happy with the current turnover and profitability of the business.

There are many other disadvantages to buying a franchise opportunity which I will cover in later articles. In all fairness though, if you can find a decent opportunity and take heed of all the advice in this article you should be on the way to a successful business life.

Are you looking for a business partner? What are the ideal qualities one should look for in a business partner? I was reflecting on this today and this article is based on my personal business history.

In my business experience I have learnt that the qualities I look for in a friend are not the same as the qualities I would look for in a business partner. In many cases your friends could possibly make the worst partners!

The ideal business partner is someone who possesses skills that you do not have. This makes the business stronger by enhancing the qualities you can bring to the table in any discussion, negotiation and meeting. It also helps greatly if they are financially very strong and can bring further resources to the table if required.

In my previous business my brother was one of my partners. He was exceptionally good at art and design. He created our first brochure and our website. He helped to create the brand image for our company.

I was good at creating and holding together the team so that the business could grow. Together we created a highly profitable company employing over 45 people.

I believe that the type of partner one should look for is someone who is highly enthusiastic about life. Enthusiasm is infectious and can help you to stay motivated when times are tough. I also like people who are full of ideas and can see opportunity where others can not.

I admire people who refuse to take no for an answer. Persistence is a great quality and often it can be successful. In my previous packaging company my partner called the largest company in Dundee - NCR (National Cash registrars) every three months for over four years only to be told to go away. "Do not call us, we will call you" was the standard response.

In the fifth year they did call us and asked us to quote for over a million dollars of business. The whole process from initial quotation, trialling our products to securing the business took a further three months. They only gave us a chance to quote because of his persistence.

The ideal business partner should also have the same commitment to business as you. In one of my previous businesses I had a partner (also a friend) who was very lazy. This created a lot of friction in the business and almost broke our friendship.

Whatever you do, do not go into business with a person who has a short fuse. People who lose their tempers quickly are much harder to get on with in the long term. One business I was closely associated with had two partners who both had bad tempers. Even though their business had great potential it ended up failing due to their aggressive behaviour towards each other.

If you are going into a business relationship with somebody you do not really know then it is a great idea to carry out a credit check on the individual. If the person has a high credit score this says a lot about their values.

Their hobbies and the organisations they belong to can also help you to understand the person's true character. Speak to other members of these organisations to find out more about the person you are considering. It might be a good idea if somebody else carried out this research on your behalf.

If you do end up with an ideal business partner who agrees with your plans, goals and ethos of the company it should accelerate your growth. Working with a business partner will provide you with more business opportunities as opposed to working by yourself. Together, you can come up with twice the business ideas and trade leads.

Article Title: For Businesses The Franchise Route Is Best For Emerging Markets

Franchising your existing business might be the best possible way to take the opportunity to enter emerging markets. Markets like India and China have complicated rules and regulations about who is entitled to own and operate a business there. The best way often to circumvent these rules is by franchising your operation in these markets.

By using franchising the franchisee owns the business whilst the franchisor takes a share of the profits. Why does an established business want to deal with headache of red tape and restrictive trade practices when with a leap of the imagination the franchise model allows them to achieve the same profitability without the same hassles?

Many British retailers including Argos and Mothercare have used the franchise model to dabble in new emerging markets. The franchise leaders that are quick to carve out major niches in these new emerging markets will grab unprecedented market share before their slow and sure footed competitors move in.

The largest emerging market place is China with India being a close second. China could become the largest market place in the world within the next ten years and overtake the USA.

Franchising is the ideal route for many US and UK companies who want to test the water without expending large sums of capital. This gives them a chance to dip their toes in the water without risking large sums of capital.

Once large organisations find that their business model does actually work in the new, exciting and dangerous market place they can dedicate their resources to find better ways to keep a higher percentage of long term profits for themselves.

China and India are very unique marketplaces. Unlike say for instance Australia not everybody in China speaks the same dialect. The divide between rich and poor is also vast. Tastes vary enormously as does buying power.

In India there are literally hundreds of different languages whilst admittedly the main bulk of buyers with money can be targeted by 2 languages… Hindi and English. Again here spending powers vary and so do belief systems.

In reality trying to expand new emerging marketplaces without testing the waters first is fraught with danger. Franchising offers a real solution to test out the marketplace, learn the structural issues and change your products and marketing so that it identifies with the local marketplace. This does not mean that you can not enter the marketplace independently. You can franchise x numbers of units and then create non franchised units in other territories.

Throughout history economic powers have grown and declined. Asia is growing rapidly and will play an ever increasing role in the ever demanding need for companies to find new customers. The buying power of Asian consumers is rising at a dramatic pace and the consumers are demanding better products and improving service. The opportunity is there now for Established US & Europe brands to market their brands and test the waters before entering fully.

To sum up, the emerging markets are predicted to compete with the western powers in terms of buying power and economic strength. Any company which ignores this is turning a blind eye and letting its competitors expand, gain a foothold and exploit the opportunity whilst they watch and wait.

In business, opportunities are everywhere whether you are buying a franchise opportunity or starting a business on your own. But for those who are entering the world of business for the first time everything can seem a little daunting. They will have to quickly grasp new skills and embrace change if they are to succeed in their first business.

Here is a typical scenario of someone starting out in business for the first time; a man is approaching his fortieth birthday and has managed to save some by working extremely hard. He has managed to almost clear his mortgage and is now fed up working long hours making someone else rich. He decides it is time to go into business for himself.

Now he is bewildered by the number of opportunities on offer. Should he start a home business or should he consider a franchise opportunity. Is it better to enter the retail trade or perhaps sell products via a website? It finally dawns on him that he doesn't have a clue about setting up a new business.

So how does one go about setting up a business for the first time? It is absolutely essential to learn the basics of business accounting. I am not saying that you have to an expert but just by reading one or two simple books you can get the basic understanding very quickly. Choose simple titles like Accounting for Dummies.

You can then create basic business plans and understand cashflow. This process will alone serve to clarify whether any business idea is worth pursuing further.

Start attending franchise exhibitions and speak to other franchise owners. By following this basic tip you will suddenly realise how many opportunities that are really out there. You will gain an understanding of what works and is profitable and the kinds of businesses to avoid with a barge pole. You will also get a feel for the type of business you can dedicate the next five years of your life to.

Do you have any hobbies that you can develop into a business? Are you passionate about anything? This is also a good starting point for developing a business idea. Again it is a good idea to attend the relevant exhibitions and buy the trade publications.

Speak to friends who own or manage businesses. If you don't have any friends who are in business make some new friends. Business mentors can very useful if you are starting up for the first time. They will be able to advice you through all the red tape and also how to get the best deals from your suppliers. They will be able to discuss with you at length how to deal with any staffing issues.

A business mentor can develop into a close friend. Both of you can lean on each other when times are hard and motivate each other when desire is low. Once you enter the business world and make friends with a business mentor then remember that most business people know a lot of other business people.

Start mixing in those circles and join some business networking organisations. All of a sudden you will not feel like you are not on your own. You can use your new friends to sound out any new ideas you have. You can discuss the intricacies of marketing and how to exploit any new opportunities that you spot.

Now that you have started your business always treat your customers with respect and give exemplary service. Large businesses with monopolies can get away with shoddy service. Your customers will not be so lenient with you.

Never become complacent once you reach a level of comfort. Small businesses are either moving forwards or they are declining. Very rarely do you see businesses that stand still and maintain their profitability and customer base.

Change can be very stressful, so it is imperative when starting a business to have an outlet for your stress and frustrations. Playing a sport regularly can definitely help. Remember it doesn't have to be an active sport if you are not into physical fitness. Snooker, bowling or even darts can help to alleviate the stresses and strains of business.

Learn some motivational phrases that will help you in times of need. Some of my favourites include:

Some will, some wont, so what move on - this phrase is especially useful if you are in direct selling.

CANI (constant and never ending improvement) - is especially useful when you are developing new products or working on long term plans.

Think and grow rich - this one helps you to realise that there is more to business than just working hard.

There is no such thing as failure in business only results - if you try something and it doesn't work you have succeeded in finding out how not to do it!

A stitch in time saves nine - deal with problems as soon as they arise, rather then waiting until they become huge problems.

Look before you leap - every time you have a new idea don't implement it straight away. Mull the idea round in your head and speak to your trusted business mentors. Do not worry about other people stealing your idea. They are far too busy running their own business and implementing their own ideas.

When the going gets tough the tough get going - this phrase is my all time favourite and has seen me through some very rough times.

Obviously this topic is so huge that it is difficult to analyse all the basics of starting and running your own business. This is where thirst for knowledge is essential. There are so many good business books out there. Reading a chapter a night will not only help to relax you but also open your business mind to new ways of thinking and working.

I will leave with one final saying, talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words. Over time and with action you can fine tune your business instincts to affectively utilise any business opportunity you spot.

I think that business can easily be thought of in the same way as a military campaign. Your competitors will take the opportunity (have no hesitation) in using your ideas or attacking your customers. If they can most will not hesitate to crush you!

Another tactic that I have personally encountered is when our competitor tried and succeeded in poaching 2 of my staff. Eventually I managed to get one back primarily because she didn't like her new boss. I was actually glad that they poached the other one who was a good talker but had very poor work ethics!

I have seen friends trample over close friends all for the sake of a "fistful of dollars" (sorry pounds) - on a side note the pound is still holding above $2 USD at the time of writing.

I believe that most businesses will have to operate using military tactics if they are to be successful. They must use intelligence to find out everything about their competitor. They must keep one step ahead. They must move forward only when they are sure of holding their new position. They must fully equip their troops for the battles ahead.

In this economic climate where the big boys are trying to muscle in on our territory a military plan is essential. Do you agree? There are many books that use the analogy of war to create business tactics.

The most innovative will survive whilst the people who wrest on their laurels will slowly wither and die. Do not mess around on "no hopers and get to your customers before your competitors do".

Tescos… The UKs biggest supermarket is certainly not resting on its laurels.

Market share continues to rise. It is not content just with the grocery market. It is attacking insurance, clothing, furniture, electrical goods and pharmaceuticals.

Tesco now controls 30% (up from 29% last year) of the UK grocery market. To continue its growth, it has introduced premium own brand ranges, introduced Tesco Express (to circumvent the Office of Fair Trading - OFT rules) and in some towns now controls 40% of the grocery market.

Do you think that it will stop there? Small shops in our towns, villages and cities are now facing the battle of the giant. Is this a war? You can bet it is. Considerable opportunities still exist for the small businessman. Take every opportunity to move forwards before your competitors do!

Selling a franchise business is not as straight forward as selling your own business. Your franchise agreement will have detailed instructions on the procedures that you need to follow when you take the opportunity to sell your business.

The franchisor will be able to assist you in valuing your business and will probably insist that you use the methods of valuation as set out in the franchise agreement. You will of course be free to seek independent advice and valuations.

Be careful when seeking the advice of experts and always agree the price beforehand so that you are prepared for the final costs and have a chance to negotiate any prices quoted before giving them the work.

It is always worth seeking a second opinion as valuations can vary wildly. This is due to the many variables the valuation experts take into account including future growth potential of your business and values for any properties whether leased or purchased.

The franchisee will have to seek the permission from the franchisor to sell the business. This permission can not be unreasonably withheld or delayed provided that the franchisee has adhered to the terms of his agreement and has found a suitable buyer.

In some cases the franchisee will have to pay a small percentage of the sale price to the franchisor. This can range from five percent to twenty five percent of the final price. The franchisee will also have to pay the franchisor a small sum to do the normal checks on the future buyer.

The franchisor usually has a right to buy your franchise business at the same price as the highest offer received and considered acceptable. This is a normal part of any franchise agreement and is there to protect the franchisors rights. If they believe that you are selling the business at under value, then they could take the opportunity to step in and buy the business for the same price.

The franchisor might also want to take his business back into private control and this is an optimum time to buy the rights back. If this is the case then the franchisor might actually step in and bid higher than the current highest offer.

In most cases the new buyer will not be able to take over your franchise agreement. A new agreement will have to be created for the new buyer and your agreement will lapse. You will have to ensure that all monies due as per the franchise agreement will have to be settled prior to the transaction taking place.

Most franchisors will be able to assist you in the sale of your business if required. This service usually demands a premium and or a higher percentage of the purchase price.

Finally bear in mind that there is always a difference between the valuation and the final price achieved. In some case this difference can be huge. In the end the market place will decide what your business is worth and not the valuation report. At any point in time some business are more in demand then others and can command prices well in excess of their valuation price. Taking all this into account it is better to sell the business when the economy is doing well or at the right side of the economic cycle. By getting the timing right, this can make a huge difference to the sales price achieved.

With franchisees the opportunity needs to be taken to maintain strong lines of communication between them and the franchisor's business. Finding good franchisees is difficult; keeping them is a lot easier.

The best franchisees need special nurturing so that a strong relationship can be cultivated with the franchisor. If the franchisor follows basic & simple rules, it will be fairly easy to maintain the franchise relationship and keep lines of communication open.

The key qualities that we look for when recruiting franchisees are:

    1) Strong people skills - this is the number one quality to look for. All franchisees will be dealing with staff, customers and suppliers. There are many standard questionnaires that the franchisor can use to analyse potential franchisees.

    2) Ability to work hard - this is the second most important business quality that any franchisee needs. If they are prepared to work hard almost any problem can be overcome.

    3) Basic computer skills - if the franchisee understands and knows how to use basic software programmes, they are far easier to integrate with your own technology and systems.

    4) Planning and Goal setting skills - basic skills in analysing and creating realistic goals are required. The worst franchisees are the ones who are far too ambitious for their own good.

    5) Ability to work under set guidelines - the best franchisees will work within set guidelines. If a franchisee likes to do things his own way then he is unlikely to be able to work within structured and proven formulae.

The best ways to cultivate and maintain the relationship between franchisee & franchisor are:

    1) Keeping lines of communication open - The franchisee should know who to call when any aspect of his business franchise is struggling. A structured and well defined plan which handles all aspects of communication between franchisee and franchisor is vital. This aspect is absolutely critical for any relationship to work.

    2) Meeting on a regular basis - nothing achieves more than face to face meetings. This helps to build relationships and often you can deal with problems early on before they become serious.

    3) Cultivating relationships between one franchisee and another - this creates a mastermind team where the franchisees can discuss and debate the skills and ideas for improving their business franchise.

    4) Continuously improve the company's products - this will help to motivate the franchises as they realise that you are fully committed to their success.

    5) Become a friend to the franchisee - I can not stress this too highly. The franchisee should be able to discuss all their problems with the franchisor. In many cases the franchisee fails in his business due to personal problems if you can advice them and assist them with their personal problems not only will they be grateful but are far more likely to succeed in their business.

    6) Be consistent with your dealings with all franchisees - This is very important. You should try and have equal relationships with all franchisees. This is often not possible due to the fact that you will have successful franchisees that will need special treatment to take the opportunity to expand their territories.

To sum up - find the right franchisee and cultivate and maintain the relationships to build your franchise network.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

All franchises & business opportunities can be analysed for both growth and profit potential using very simple rules. These rules apply whether you are starting a business on your own or considering buying a franchise opportunity.

The first golden rule in business is to analyse the market place that you are contemplating to enter. Is it a declining market or is it growing? Is it becoming more competitive or less? Is it forecast to grow or decline? The same rules apply when you are considering buying a franchise opportunity. What forces are at play in this segment?

Let us assume that you are thinking of entering the retail trade and specifically men's clothing.

By analysing the market or commissioning market research you will quickly discover that the segment is very tough indeed. Average retail prices when taking inflation into account have actually fallen in real terms. Average cost prices have not fallen so quickly. Margins are being squeezed. Average spending power has actually increased so certain highly specific segments within this segment could still hold their own.

The growth in mail order and internet shopping for these products has risen over the same time. Supermarkets have entered the field and now hold a significant market share. The quality of imported goods has now reached the standards of some inferior brand names.

All the above should sound alarm signals for anybody considering entering this business segment. So the first golden rule in business is to enter a growing market segment where profit margins haven't been already squeezed. In reality the opportunity has already been exploited. Again if you are contemplating buying a business franchise in this segment I would advice you to think twice.

A rapidly growing market segment is to supply health care, holidays, specifically designed products and other services to the elderly. In the last 50 years the rate of growth of the over 60s has exceeded any other age group. Their disposable incomes have risen at the same time. This is forecast to grow even further as better understanding of health risks, improved medication and exercise facilities enable the population to live longer.

The need for help with every day activities also increases with age. Most elderly people need help with one or another area of life that we all take for granted.

Another very important feature that has been widely seen is that the elderly now seem to be a lot different from the same age group only 50 years ago. They are much more likely to travel on their own, exercise in the gym & demand greater services from both the business community and the government.

So in this case the first golden rule has been overcome. Profit margins are healthy and the market segment is expanding and forecasted to continue expanding. Spending power is on the rise and forecast to grow further in years to come.

There are many market segments that are forecast to grow so the above example is just one of them. Again there are other segments that have already started declining.

The First Golden Rule states that if you find a niche in a market place that is growing rapidly even a hard working fool can make money. Your accountant can help you analyse any market segment very quickly and easily. Why enter the wrong segment when you are likely to be in that field for at least the next 5 years? Look out for my next golden rule out soon.

In business how do you find the perfect business opportunity? It might seem complicated when you are starting out but there are some basic rules you can follow to find the right business niche for you. This is a beginner's course for any young person who is starting out in business or even an older person who is starting out in business for the first time.

Let us start with the golden rule. What are you interested in? There is no point in spending the next 5 or 10 years managing a business that you do not enjoy. Are you interested in sports? No? Well what about reading? List half a dozen things that you are interested in. Surely you can find 6 hobbies or interests that interest or stimulate you?

Okay, now we have narrowed it down to 6 possible business avenues. Now go on the search engines and see what the competition is like for each of your niches. This is especially important if you are thinking about creating a web business. See those little adverts on the right? They are called sponsored links. You have to pay to be there. How many pages of adverts are there? Scroll down and go the next page of sponsored links. Count the number of sponsored links per page and roughly work how many there are altogether.

If there are more than 2 pages go to your next niche topic. Why? The numbers of sponsored links tell you the level of competition there is in your chosen niche / opportunity. If you are starting out in business you do not want too much competition. Sometimes you might be luck and find that in your chosen niche there are only 1 or 2 people paying. This is much better.

Okay, hopefully you will have found something that both appeals to you and there isn't too much competition. Now the real fun begins. What do you really seriously know about this niche? If you are not an expert then matey it is now time to become one. Read all you can via internet searches, libraries and talking and meeting people who are also interested. Find out what is missing. Speak to the manufacturers and retailers. What the heck, you can even start attending the exhibitions!

If all else fails why not look at buying a franchise. My advice to you is not to go for the run of the mill franchise opportunity. Choose a business that has only been out for a couple of years. Check the company behind the franchise. How long have they been going? What is their financial situation? Ask your accountants advice. He will be able to bring up the companies accounts in a matter of minutes. If he cannot, then change your accountant.

Speak to the existing franchisees. Do not enter into a new business where all the existing franchisees are struggling or only a small percentage is making money. Once you have done your market research never look back. This is the only business niche that you are going to follow for the next five years. You got it? People always over estimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in five!

In business, the best way of making money is to find an opportunity in the market doing what others won't do or are not prepared to do.

In the last 10 years a big business boom story in Scotland has been the hand car washes where they clean your car in a conveyor belt system. They tend to have 3 or bays and each bay can hold 3 or 4 cars. I go to the one in Dundee that opened 3 years ago.

One guy will soap your car another guy will use a large sponge to scrub the soap into the ingrained dirt and finally somebody else spray it all off. Much better than an automated car wash which might scratch your car? After you have had your car washed, why not go to the interior cleaning bays where they hand clean the inside whilst you wait in the waiting area sipping tea and catching up on the daily news.

Once you have an idea, focus on it. Don't let other people distract you and move you of tangent. You will find out that what was just a glimmer of your imagination, starts to grow arms and legs and over time becomes a lot more solid.

After all – any idea worth its salt has to be given three years at least before you see the full benefits!

If you must copy a great new business idea then make sure that you do it better, much better! Think – don't react to a simple idea and just copy it. Try and improve on it by a wide margin otherwise you will have zero USP (unique selling point). Spend quality time evaluating how you could improve on it. This is where some good intelligent friends really come in handy.

If you are still struggling for ideas, why not look at a franchise opportunity. Don't look at the old established franchises but instead check out the new ones that are emerging. Why do I say this? If you get in at the ground floor of an opportunity then it becomes easier to expand into other territories near you. If you go for the more established brands then territories are harder to come by. You can also pick up newer franchises for a lot lower initial outlay then an established brand.

Make sure you do your homework first, and speak to existing franchisees about how they are faring with their business. It is also worthwhile doing a check on the company selling the franchise. It is very important that you back a financially stable company.

Economically – this is the best time to become an entrepreneur. The economic outlook is generally rosy, inflation is low and banks are lending money at historically low rates. It has never been a better time to look for a serious business opportunity.

After all is said and done and you have chosen the business opportunity that you are going to go with, then roll up your sleeves, do not let anybody distract you and prepare for some hard work.

I have a friend who always seems to fail at every business opportunity he lays his hands. Do you know why? He thinks BIG! I mean really BIG!

He never looks at any opportunity unless he can make huge sums of cash. What always ends up happening is that he never has the cash flow to manage the opportunity that he wants so much to come true.

My main concern is that there are too many books in the market place that seduce people with large business ideas and impossible goals. Often it is better to think small and with incremental baby steps reach higher then was thought possible.

When people start thinking BIG, then even a positive outcome in business might not meet their initial goal leading to possible despair.

When you have small plans and perform better than expected this gives a boost to mind and body. If you have high goals and fail to reach them - even though you are successful in other people's eyes - in your own mind you have failed.

Many of the business books out there tell you that you MUST think BIG. I disagree strongly. I like the philosophy of "think small and make it BIG".

I believe in Baby Steps. It is amazing what you can achieve in 5 years if you take small baby steps at regular intervals. No matter what stage you are in your business, focus on the next small baby step. Step by step, you will get closer to your goal.

If you must then BIG, then start by thinking small and make gradual incremental steps towards your goals.

Now women excel at thinking small and planning small carefully calculated steps. This is probably why we are seeing more and more successful business women. They never seem to lose sight of their eventual business goal and also don't get upset easily when the road throws up more challenges.

Even with product developments, small incremental improvements often work better then developing a brand new product. It is usually far cheaper to improve an existing product then to axe it and replace with something that hasn't been tried and tested.

You can apply the same ideas when dealing with business clients. Remember that with customers it is often the small things that count like: how long did it take before someone answered the phone, how quick was the response to their query. The small etiquettes of business service also help you to attract the BIG clients.

Work hard, pay the price, and enjoy your work. The short term realities of business might be tough but the long term opportunities can be high. Stop thinking BIG and take small steps towards your goals and you might possibly achieve Greatness!

When you buy a franchise business and employ family to help you run it, the business operation can be a lot smoother. Notice how I said can! When you buy a franchise opportunity, in the initial stages business cash flow can be tight. This is where sometimes family members can help out. In the initial stages some family members might be prepared to help you out at either zero or minimal wages.

Longer term their demands could grow to the point that they ask for more money than regular employees or worse still ask for a share in the business! This is not as bad as it sounds because often you can expand the business a lot faster by keeping it in the family.

When you run a franchise business it is imperative to employ people who you can trust. This is where a strong family unit comes in extremely handy. Having a loyal and trustworthy workforce gives you the opportunity to spend more time on business expansion.

Most children are now very computer literate. They can help you out, punching in data and general book keeping tasks. By involving your children in some of the children friendly tasks in the business, they will pick up skills which will be useful to them in their future business life or employment.

Your partner will be able to assist in the management of the business and take some of the stress and strains away from you. Now you both have something in common if you did not before!

So in a nutshell, the business unit can be stronger when you have family working for you. The positives far out way the negatives. But, running a franchise business and employing family members can create its own unique type of problems.

What if one of your family members, be it brother or sister is not pulling his own weight? What if he or she is not up to the task? What if he or she does not get along with other family members? This can lead to all sorts of problems. For a start, you can't just sack them due to the emotional attachment. This is where the skills of the franchise owner really comes into play.

Another potential area of disputes is when you are employing a younger brother or sister, and the time comes to hand over the reins of the business franchise to your son who happens to be younger than both of them. Whilst your brother or sister was happy taking orders from you, they might not feel the same way towards your son.

In these situations, counselling can help. Another weapon that you could use is to make the transition gentle and over a longer spell, so that the other family members have a time and the opportunity to adjust to the new business relationship.

You will have to be careful that you all make time for yourselves. Working with people, and the day to day hassles can become tiresome especially when you all go home together. You do not want to carry on with the business disputes at home. A simple rule might be that business is not to be discussed around meal times, thereby allowing the family to discuss family issues.

When it comes to expanding your business by buying another franchise unit, the strengths of the family unit can really come into play. This is when you can give the opportunity to the strongest family member the chance to be a manager of the new unit.

I have an acquaintance who supplies products to the small business retail trade. He decided a few years ago that he was happy with the level of business he had. He stopped all forms of new marketing and focused on just keeping his existing customers happy.

He was now comfortable and business was good. What he failed to realise was whilst he was not seeking new customers, more and more supermarkets were opening in the area. They were taking business left, right and centre from the small retail trade.

Yes, you guessed it. Whilst still maintaining his existing customer base, his sales to each of them started dwindling. He realised his mistake far too late when a few businesses actually shut up shop or closed down due to lack of profitability.

A one / two person business can stay in the comfort zone for a lot longer than a business which employs 15 – 20 people.

In business usually / around 80% of your turnover pays the bills whilst the last 20% makes your profit. Therefore if a profitable business loses only 10% of their turnover and all of a sudden the prices you can charge customers become more competitive – the business is no longer making money.

So what can you do to avoid the above scenario?

First of all you have to realise / except that you are in the comfort zone.

Create a plan of attack to generate more sales.

Evaluate the marketplace you are in and don't be scared to drop lines that are no longer profitable.

Look at new products to rejuvenate the existing product range.

Examine your methods of working – what worked 5 years ago might not work as well today.

Is it possible to do anything faster, easier or cheaper with modern technology and new ways of working?

Have a fresh look at your work force.

Consider training so that you have a skilled work force ready for the challenges of today.

Have your property surveyed and examine the possibility of relocating.

Has your customer base moved whilst you have been in a state of denial?

Can you use the space more efficiently? Is your property and land worth more for building on than actually running the business?

Have a fresh look at your opening hours. Would you fare better opening 1 hour earlier? What time do you generate most business?

Are you like most businesses that trade Mon – Friday? Do you open 9am – 5.30pm? Would it be more profitable for you and easier for your staff if you opened at 8am and closed at 4.30pm? What about closing 1 day mid week and staying open all day Saturday?

How do you transport your goods?

Is it more efficient to still run vans on the road when couriers and distributions companies are now so efficient? Vice versa – would you save money or provide a better service by delivering your own goods?

    Create a business plan for the next 1, 3 & 5 years.

    Have your business valued.

Remember to use baby steps. Tackle 1 problem at a time or get an outside company which specialises in looking at businesses from top to bottom. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can often spot what you fail to.

In business there is no such thing as a comfort zone for most types of small companies. Either you are moving forwards or eventually you will start to move back. The world is forever changing and those who adapt quickly will succeed whilst those who fail to adapt will disappear. If you don't believe me than have a look at the top 100 companies in the stock market 20 years ago and see which ones are still in the top 100 today.

It is a well known fact that as the population increases then the number of people wanting to go into business increases –obvious but true.

This is despite the fact that a large amount of businesses fail within the first two years.

Ideally one would like to purchase a business for less than it takes to create one – this is not always easy and can take as much effort as the former.

So just how does one take the choice of whether or not to uptake the business opportunity?

The decision can be helped by the work taken to look at the factors affecting the eventual outcome.

What is commonly misunderstood is that businesses have their life-cycles –if you are lucky enough to buy a business when its life-cycle is still enhanced by its customer loyalty then it is fortunate but if one is basing their future on this then it can be touch-and-go.

So what should one look at when purchasing a business franchise?

    Establishing a customer base

    Internal systems and procedures

    Market awareness and credibility

    Premises and cash-flow

    Staffing

Franchising is such a popular industry due to the ability to focus on the first three points.

It must be noted that, however, as with any business, it essential to establish a customer base.

Also, it is important to ask oneself whether or not the customers will stay happy in the long-term; this is of paramount importance as it is the key, obviously, to the longevity of the business.

Some schools of thought believe that it is a good idea to have a "work-out" clause included- this involves the owner taking part in the business for a period so that the owner's skills may be put to the business in its early stages.

What may also be apparent to existing franchisees is the fact that the aforementioned points seem ridiculously transparent but to the unaware may be at first un-noticed.

Again, what may seem apparently clarent to pre-existing franchisees is the need to do the customer approach-whichever business one is involved in; it requires customer contact and this can be the making or braking of a business.

So in deciding to take on a franchise opportunity the potential franchisee must ask almost the same number of questions as that of a person looking to begin a brand new business-what is the integrity behind the business? What are its potential advantages/disadvantages? What are the staff needed? Are there any premises needed-if so how, much area? What logistics are required? Internal systems and staffing? Rent and rates? The list goes on.

Financing of course takes pride of place as this is one of the major reasons we strive to create anything in the world of business.

In my opinion it is essential to ensure that sufficient funds are available to take care of the bad times, and with previous experience it is recommended to expect some problems with any and every opportunity.

However, this being said, the fruits of pursuing this course are plenty otherwise people would not go into these ventures.

The question thus prevails-to buy or not to buy a business franchise?

Ethics and compliance training for employees has become a part of the healthcare industry owing to the increase in financial scams and fraud cases seen. Healthcare organizations give special importance to it as they constantly deal with issues of privacy and confidentiality involves with patient information.

Among other things, ethics and compliance training increases efficiency of work processes, increases security, and prevents mishandling of private information.

The six reasons why healthcare employees must undertake ethics and compliance training are as follows.

    • Most healthcare organizations have made it mandatory for their employees to undertake this training and obtain a certification. This is so that can avoid problems with the law with regard to harassment, confidentiality breach, unauthorized access, and so on.

    • It is important that healthcare employees understand the significance of good workplace ethics. The training will help them distinguish between what is right and wrong with regard to legal matters. Once they are aware of good ethics and compliance practices there will be lesser chances of situations like financial fraud, identity theft, confidentiality breach, and so on.

    • Ethics and compliance training includes information about legal issues that may rise up in the health care industry and how to properly handle them. The course will teach employees the consequences severity of such legal issues and to make every effort to stay away from them. Other topics covered in the training include abuse and fraud laws, Stark law, penalties for non-compliance, false claim act, etc.

    • This training course can also be taken online. It has become a popular means of attending the course as it is easier and more convenient that the traditional classroom-based courses. On completion, a test is given and if you successfully pass it you will receive your certificate. If an employee fails to pass the test on the first attempt, it can be taken again. This is a big advantage as there is no hurry and less pressure to complete the course.

    • One of the main advantages of enrolling in an online course is that the timings are flexible and you can complete it from the comfort of your own homes. On registering with the website, all the study material will be sent to you. As ethics and compliance guidelines are constantly being updates, notifications will be sent to you regularly informing you of such changes.

    • The ethics and compliance training program is user friendly and easy to understand. The study material includes real life situations and case studies. On passing the online test, you can print your own certificate. The registration fee for online courses is much cheaper, and if a large group enrolls together, you can get it for cheaper. Certain training companies offer a money-back policy where you receive your money back if you are not satisfied with the course.

It is the healthcare provider's responsibility to make sure the employees strictly adhere to all aspects of the ethics and compliance laws. Ethics and compliance training is helpful as it makes employees aware of their responsibilities and helps them avoid mistakes that may lead to legal consequences.

Medical products and devices are essential in patient care. However if an unsafe products is used on a widespread basis the consequences can be catastrophic. Patients can experience serious injuries and deaths from product malfunctions. For example, the FDA and as well as medical testing companies reported that in 2005 to 2009 there were over 700 recalls of medical products. If the medical community had used these recalled products consistently, there would have been serious health consequences and increased fatalities.

Laws requiring the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to control medical devices were put into place over thirty years ago. A report prepared in 2010-11 by the Institute of Medicine stated that the FDA must continue to do more to regulate and test medical products. All medical devices and products must be analyzed under set procedures and additional safety and operation information needs to be produced.

Using a unique alphanumeric or numeric code plus a device identifier in all patient and inventory records can facilitate the recall of unsafe products.

    Developing Safer Medical Products

To help provide consumers with safer medical products and promote staying healthy initiatives, there are directives and procedures currently being investigated. These include:

    • Enabling more efficient recalls on medical products. It is very difficult for healthcare facilities to determine what patients have implanted medical devices that are subject to recall. There are records of what patient has what device implanted, but determining the exact model number can be difficult. Allowing the device to be noted in the electronic health records of patients and tying to those records to an electronic inventory record system can result in the rapid and exact identification of recalled products. This will result in higher safety improvements and patient-follow up to check on implanted devices. This can provide assistance to the FDA when implementing medical device recalls. The device that is subject to a recall or is being recalled could be instantly found in a patient's chart, linked to the inventory part and information would include all serial numbers; the patient could be quickly alerted to the recall.

    • If a medical device or product has an adverse event or causes patient harm, having availability to adverse event reporting would allow the FDA to engage the public and alert them to a recalled medical product. Currently it is difficult for the FDA to use these reports since they lack specificity about which device is associated with what adverse event. Being able to input and retrieve information on each medical product with labeling will ensure that these problems can be rapidly addressed, the public notified and the patient can return and have their implanted device checked and replaced.

Active surveillance needs to be applied to ensure that safety problems and mistakes can be detected. Using UDI in electronic health records, medical claims and inventory tracking can help register surveillance efforts.

Included should be the FDA's Sentinel System, clinic and hospital records, the medical community, patients and manufactures. This will aid in the quick retrieval of information in all records. The appropriate action can then be taken.

CCTV surveillance is getting the flak from some circles that are not sold to the idea that surveillance in public places can deter crime but instead infringes on the privacy of individuals. Indeed, there is some truth to it, but it's time to admit, though, that the surveillance systems in public places in private homes and businesses are deterring crime.

    CCTV Surveillance

One of the benefits of the modern facilities surveillance is the security provided by banks for the ATM outlets. Anybody withdrawing cash from the ATM are automatically swept by the surveillance cameras and the images are instantly flashed on the screens of the closed circuit TVs with the time and date.

The murderer of the college coed was immediately identified when he withdrew money from the dead girl's account. His face was vividly captured by the camera and shown on the CCTV, making the manhunt easier and accurate.

Had there been no surveillance cameras, the murderer would have remained faceless and the solution of the crime neither here or there. True, there was no way the crime could have been prevented, but isn't it a consolation to know that the murderer can be hunted down without delay?

There shouldn't be any reason why you should shrug off the potential of security surveillance in your workplace. Fortunately, you can start with one camera, recorder, and PC to set up your home and business security system, and upgrade to more camera units to have more areas under scrutiny of the tireless cameras that can run 24/7.

    How it Works

The Closed Circuit Television or CCTV displays the images captured by the cameras. The wide screened TVs should be compatible with the cameras used for the purpose. This surveillance system is the popular choice of banks, hospitals, military, and in environments unsafe for humans (industrial processing).

Unlike your average TV, the images displayed on the surveillance system using CCTV are not broadcast publicly but are limited to the exclusive use of the establishment. The images are reviewed when there are suspicions of unauthorized entry, withdrawals, and monitoring of previous processes as industrial manufacturing.

When installing this security system, you will need a digital video recorder, cameras, and accessories for both indoor and outdoor applications, monitors, and control equipments. Accessories will include domes, mounts, and sensing devices, to mention just a few.

CCTV can be easily integrated into other security systems such as your existing digital or analogue hardware, access control, and fire systems. Since it can be remotely managed or controlled, the system is ideal for monitoring livestock, visitors, industrial processes, hospital patients, and students taking examinations.

    Appropriate Setups

For small shops, bars, or banks, a 4-camera internal system is effective. For bigger establishments, you might require more cameras. Determine your needs before putting up a system. Whether you need both indoor and outdoor, or just one type of surveillance system, you will need professional experts to install it.

Specify if you need reactive or proactive remote monitoring. In proactive monitoring, you'll need the installation of motion detection that sends alarms to the monitoring center. For proactive monitoring, install the security cameras in full view of workers and customers.

Your CCTV system is just what you need to check on cheats, crooks, malingerers, and even criminals. Don't you feel better knowing that you can always check on your business and the safety of your home and family? This is better than guessing hard and missing the mark.
