Fenugreek is a native to India and southern Europe. For centuries it has grown wild in India, the Mediterranean and North Africa where it is mostly cultivated. A limited crop grows in France. It was used by the ancient Egyptians to combat fever and grown in classical times as cattle fodder. Commercially, it is used in the preparation of mango chutneys and as a base for imitation maple syrup.

In India it is used medicinally, and as a yellow dyestuff. It is also an oriental cattle fodder and is planted as a soil renovator. In the West, fenugreek's therapeutic use is now largely confined to the treatment of animals, though historically. It has been used in human medicine. The name derives from the Latin 'Greek hay' illustrating its classical use as fodder.

Fenugreek is the small stony seeds from the pod of a bean like plant. The seeds are hard, yellowish brown and angular. Some are oblong, some rhombic, other virtually cubic, with a side of about 3mm (1/8"). A deep furrow all but splits them in two.

Much research has been conducted in India and other countries studying the medicinal effects of fenugreek, focusing on its potential in diabetes. In healthy and diabetic animals and humans, fenugreek lowers cholesterol, blood triglyceride levels, and blood glucose levels. Scientists are not certain how this effect happens, but propose that the fiber in fenugreek binds to glucose and cholesterol in the digestive tract and prevents it from being absorbed by the body, or increases insulin secretion. Laboratory studies in rats show that fenugreek normalizes their blood levels of antioxidants and metabolic enzymes, but it is unclear whether this effect occurs in humans.

Several animal studies and a few clinical trials show that fenugreek can lower blood glucose levels when taken with meals. However, not nearly enough research has been performed with fenugreek to support its use as a replacement for diabetes medications.

Nearly all mothers who consume fenugreek report an increase in their milk supply within 24 to 72 hours after taking the herb. Most find that they can stop taking the herb once their level of milk production goes up as long as they make sure that both breasts are being completely emptied every two to three hours. Fenugreek will not improve low production when the breasts are not being well drained.

You can buy fenugreek capsules containing ground seeds at most health food stores in capsule or tablet forms. Although some brands recommend that you take one capsule three times a day, this dosage is too low to adequately improve milk production. In our clinic, we recommend two or three capsules three times a day. You may also drink fenugreek tea, but it has an unpleasant bitter taste and is not considered as potent as taking the herb directly.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Acne treatment therapies focus upon two aspects of acne: its prevention and management, and the removal of its more lasting effects.

Looking at the latter first, acne scars can be unsightly, and there are several methods currently used either to remove them or to hide them. Some of the more radical are surgical, while others involve modifications the surface of the skin by means of techniques akin to sandpapering, and also cosmetic techniques.

However, such therapies are needed only if the condition is permitted to have a significant effect on your skin. There are therapies that can be used to mitigate the condition if not remove it altogether. Before discussing these it will be necessary to consider what causes acne, because without that knowledge there can be no effective treatment.

Acne is cause by blockage of the sebaceous pores in the skin. That blockage is generally caused by a mixture of dead skin cells and skin oil, otherwise known as sebum. Why should this occur with acne sufferers and nobody else, when all of us have the ingredients of acne as normal components of our skin? The answer lies in our hormones.

The reason that acne is most prevalent in teenagers is that the generation of sebum is promoted by our hormones: specifically the male hormones known as androgens that both males and females begin to create in quantity during puberty. These cause the sebaceous pores to enlarge, and sebum to be produced in larger than normal quantities.

The hormones also tend to disrupt the usual desquamation rate, or shedding of dead skin cells. What happens is that the skin cells within the pores begin to shed in clumps, rather than singly, and when mixed with the excess skin oil form a plug that clogs up the pores. This plug of oils and skin cells then gets contaminated with bacteria that in time initiate the immune reaction, resulting in pus being formed through the action of macrophages on the bacteria.

The therapy needed to reduce the incidence of acne, then, can be either proactive or retroactive. Proactively, they can reduce the production of the sebum/skin cell plug. Gamma linolenic acid (GLA) as found in Omega-6 oil can block androgen receptors and so decrease the amount of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) produced. The less the amount of DHT, then the less will be the severity of your acne.

Evening primrose oil contains large quantities of GLA, and even applying this topically on your skin will dilute the sebum and reduce the likelihood of sebum and skin cells blocking your pores. This is an extreme simplification of what GLA does, but it does accurately represent the end result of its use. There are also medications you can take to reduce the rate of shedding of your skin cells, so that your pores have less chance of being blocked.

Retroactively, you can apply antibiotics to kill off the bacterial that act on the plug and that initiate the immune response responsible for the lesions. You can also give your skin a good wash with an effective skin cleanser, including a mild antibiotic to enhance the cleansing of the bacterial plug. However, there are alternative treatments, such as the proactive diet control, and the use of vitamins and appropriate herbs to control or even prevent the condition.

When you think of diet, don't think chocolate. Acne is not caused by eating too much chocolate, or even by fatty foods. We have already discussed the causes of acne, and if we can find any components in our diet that can create these conditions, then by eliminating them we should be able to avoid the condition. As a corollary, if we can identify any substances that could prevent androgens from creating excess sebum, or even control the androgens themselves, or that could help the skin cells to shed more evenly, then we could include these in our diet.

In fact such substances do exist. By going deep into the science, we will find that the secretion of testosterone is promoted by a hormone known as IGF-1 and also by insulin. IGF-1 stands for Insulin-like Growth Factor 1, and is important in the growth of children. It also promotes acne! Insulin does the same, and what that infers that anything in the diet that promotes the production of insulin will also promote acne.

What promotes insulin? Sugars and carbohydrates! Therefore, if you eat a diet low in sugars and carbs then you should have less production of sebum, and hence less acne. What this is leading to is that if you have a tendency to get acne; then switch your diet from carbohydrates and sugary foods to vegetables, grains and seafood. The Japanese get very little acne, which supports this theory.

You should also take foods rich in zinc, since a zinc deficiency has been found to lead to acne. Nobody knows why yet, but use the information and either take a zinc supplement or eat zinc rich foods such as shellfish. Strangely, it is a deficiency of zinc that causes an increase in testosterone, not the surplus of zinc provided by eating oysters! These have another effect.

There are also herbal treatments that can be effectively used for acne. Most are topical, and tea tree oil is one the more recent such treatments used to treat acne. Among the chemical constituents of tea tree oil is terpinen-4-ol, with powerful antimicrobial properties. Little wonder then that it is effective in preventing the bacterial infection of the sebaceous gland pores. The oil helps to dry out the skin, again creating conditions alien to bacteria.

You could use tea tree oil by itself, though many people simply mix it with the acne creams they are currently using. That makes them much more effective. Another option goes back to the zinc again, but rather than take it as a supplement, use it topically. Chamomile and lavender are useful in calming skin that has been inflamed both by over-zealous use of skin scrubs and also the immune system's inflammatory response to the infection of the pores.

There are many healthy options to the severe pharmaceutical treatments offered by your physician. These can be used in place of, but preferably as supplements to, the treatment recommended by your doctor. Each of the natural treatments has a sound scientific basis, and if you suffer from acne can be well worth trying.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

The huge jump that has occurred over the past few years in food allergies among US children has been found in the news often, but the reports fail to investigate a link to a recent major change in America's diet. Starting in 1996, bacteria, virus, and other genes have been artificially inserted to the DNA of soy, corn, cottonseed, and canola plants. These extras are unlabeled genetically modified foods that carry a risk of triggering life-threatening allergic reactions. Evidence collected over the past decade suggests that they are part of the problem that is contributing to higher allergy rates.

Scientists have known for quite some time that GM crops cause allergies, but there are no tests to prove in advance that a GM crop is safe. This is because people aren't usually allergic to a food until they have eaten it several times. It is the ethical considerations of feeing unlabeled, high-risk GM crops to unknowing consumers that have many people upset. Critics of GM foods often say that the US population is being used as guinea pigs in an experiment.

The sad part is, experiments have the benefits of controls and measurements and, in this case, there is neither. GM food safety experts point out that even if someone were to try to collect data about allergic reactions to GM foods, they would probably not be successful as the potential allergen is rarely identified and the number of allergy-related medical visits is not tabulated.

The classical understanding of why a GM crop might create new allergies is that imported genes produce a new protein, which has never before been present. This new protein may trigger reactions. The GM variety that is planted in 89 percent of US soy acres gets its foreign gene from bacteria and we do not know in advance if the protein produce by bacteria will provoke a reaction. As a precaution, scientists compare these proteins with others in a database of proteins that are known to cause allergies. If the new GM crop contains an amino acid sequence that is found in the allergen database, the GM crop should either not be commercialized or additional testing should be done.

Although biotech advocates claim the process of genetic engineering is precise, this is false. The process of creating a GM crop can produce massive changes in the natural functioning of the plant's DNA. Native genes can be mutated, deleted, permanently turned on or off, and hundreds may change their levels of protein expression damage may result in increasing levels of an existing allergen, or even producing a completely new allergen within the crop.

The levels of one known soy allergen, trypsin inhibitor, were up to twenty-seven percent higher in raw GM soy. Additionally, cooking soybeans normally reduces the amount of this protein, the trypsin inhibitor seems to be more heat resistant, as the levels in cooked GM soy are nearly as high as those found in raw soy and seven times higher than cooked non-GM soy. This allergen in GM soy may be more likely to provoke reactions than when consumed in natural varieties. Another study concluded that GM soybeans contain a unique protein that is not found in non-GM soy controls.

By 2004, farmers used an estimate 86 percent more herbicide on GM soy fields than compared to non-GM. These higher levels of herbicide residue in GM soy have been shown to potentially cause health problems. Actually, many of the symptoms identified in the United Kingdom soy allergy study are amongst those symptoms related to glyphosate exposure.

If proteins survive longer in the digestive tract, then they have more time to cause an allergic reaction. Studies on mice showed dramatically reduced levels of pancreatic enzymes when fed GM soy. If there are less protein-digesting enzymes available, then food proteins may stay longer in the gut, which allows for more time to produce an allergic reaction. A reduction in protein digestion because of GM soy consumption can promote allergic reactions to a large range of proteins, not only just the soy. As of now, no human studies of protein digestion related to GM soy have been conducted.

There is at least one protein found in natural soybeans that is cross-reactive with peanut allergies. This means that consuming soybeans may trigger a reaction for some of those people who are allergic to peanuts. Although it is possible that side effects from genetic engineered soybeans may increase the occurrence of cross-reactivity, it is unlikely that any research has been done to investigate this. Genetically engineered soy was introduced into the United States food supply in late 1996. This leaves us only to wonder whether this had an influence on the doubling of peanut allergies that has occurred from the years 1997 to 2002.

The introduction of genetically engineered foods into our diet was done quietly and without the mandatory labeling that is required in most of the other industrialized countries. Without knowing that GM foods might increase the risk of allergies and without knowing which foods contain GM ingredients, the biotech industry is gambling with our health for their own profit. However, this risk is not lost on everyone as millions of shoppers are now seeking foods that are free from any GM ingredients.

Organic foods are not allowed to contain GM ingredients. By buying products that are certified organic or that say non-GMO are two ways to limit the risk of consuming GM foods. Another way to avoid those products containing ingredients from the seven food crops that have been genetically engineered: soy, corn, cottonseed, canola, Hawaiian papaya, and a little bit of zucchini and squash. This also means avoiding soy lecithin in chocolate, corn syrup in candies, and cottonseed or canola oil in snack foods.

Thanks to the Campaign for Healthier Eating in America, your shopping will soon be made easier. This Consumer Non-GMO Education Campaign is making an effort to clean out GM ingredients from foods and the natural products industry. This campaign hopes to circulate helpful non-GMO shopping guides to organic and natural food stores nationwide, providing consumers with regular GM food safety updates that explain the discoveries about GMOs.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

The main cause of any chronic disease of aging including Type II diabetes, CV disease, obesity, osteoporosis, and cancer are all caused by miss communication between signals that tell your body how to turn energy into life and the brain. The two most important signals that we know of today are given by the hormones insulin and leptin.

Leptin is an extremely powerful and influential hormone that is produced by fat cells. It has totally changed the way scientific researchers look at fat, nutrition, and metabolism in general. Before leptin's discovery in 1994, fat was regarded as strictly an ugly energy store that most everyone was trying to get rid of. However, after it was discovered that leptin is actually produced by fat, fat became an endocrine organ similar to the ovaries, pancreas, and pituitary, as it influences the rest of the body, especially the brain.

Leptin is the most powerful regulator known to date of eating and reproduction. Your fat tells your brain whether you should be hungry or eat and make more fat, whether you should reproduce and make babies, or whether to maintain and repair yourself. It can then be stated that instead of your brain being in control of your body, your body, especially its fat and leptin, controls your brain.

Throughout history, it has been in ones best interest to store some fat to call upon during times of famine. However, it is also just as bad to be too fat. For most of our history, it was necessary to run, hunt, and avoid being prey. Therefore, fat storage had to be highly regulated and it still is. When a person typically tries to lose weight, the body tries to gain it back, resulting in what is commonly known as yo-yo dieting. Because of this, it has long been theorized that there is a "set point" and there must be a hormone that determines this.

Science now believes that leptin is that hormone. So in order to break the yo-yo cycle, one must control leptin. If a person is getting too fat, the extra fat produces more leptin that is suppose to tell the brain there is too much fat stored and the excess should be burned. Signals are then sent to the hypothalamus to stop being hungry, stop eating, stop storing fat, and start burning off some extra fat. Controlling hunger is a major way that leptin controls energy storage. Hunger is a very powerful drive that will make you do all you can to eat if it is stimulated long enough.

The only way to eat less in the long-term is to not be hungry and the only way to do this is to control the hormones that regulate hunger. The primary hormone that does this is leptin. It has recently been found that leptin not only changes brain chemistry, but can also rewire the neurons in areas of the brain that control hunger and metabolism to do its bidding. The inability of the body to hear leptin's signals plays significant and even primary roles in heart disease, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, reproductive disorders, cancer, and even the rate of aging itself.

In a process called glycation, glucose reacts with protein which results in sticky, sugar-damaged proteins called advanced glycated end products, or AGEs for short. When protein is damaged, it can't function or communicate properly. AGEs promote excessive inflammation and free radical damage. AGEs and free radicals from oxidation are two of the major molecular mechanisms that cause damage which leads to aging. AGEs cause skin and the lining of arteries to wrinkle and inflame, which contributes to plaque and heart attacks. They can also promote the formation of cataracts and macular degeneration leading eventually to blindness.

The glycation process has also been connected with the destruction of proteins and nerve cells that may lead to Alzheimer's disease, memory loss, and a variety of neuropathies. Glycation and oxidation are two of the major molecular mechanisms where damage accrues, disease occurs, and death results. High blood sugar can suppress your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infection and cancer. Highly aggressive cancers outpace the availability of oxygen and therefore must use an anaerobic fuel, in the form of glucose. By consuming glucose (sugar), we feed cancer. Lastly, high blood levels of sugar form non-fiber carbohydrates and excess protein send leptin and insulin levels upward.

If there is a known marker for long life, it is low insulin levels. Insulin's purpose is not only to regulate blood sugar, but to store excess energy for future times of need. Insulin also lowers blood glucose levels as a side effect from storing it away, not regulating it. Today, high glucose is quite normal, as our insulin levels are typically much higher than they were among our ancestors. When you are constantly bombarding your cells with insulin, they become insulin resistant. This causes insulin levels to rise, creating a hormonal derangement that has a catastrophic effect on the metabolism.

High insulin contributes to making you fat because it tells your cells to store nutrients as fat rather than to burn it. Repeated high levels of insulin cause insulin resistance. The more fat the body accumulates the more leptin the body can produce so fat works against to slow down insulin production causing insulin resistance..

High insulin causes the retention of sodium, fluid retention, excretion of magnesium, elevated blood pressure, cognitive heart failure, blood clotting, and arterial plaque formation. Heart attacks are much more likely to happen after a meal that is high in carbohydrates than after one that is high in fat. This triggers a stress response which can cause arterial spasm, constriction of arteries, elevated blood pressure, irregular heartbeat and sudden death. Insulin resistance along with low magnesium keeps you from metabolizing important fatty acids that are vital to your heart health in general.

As critical as insulin is in your health, leptin may even be more so. Leptin plays a significant role in obesity, heart disease, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, and cancer. But there are clues as to how to live a long and healthy life which brings us back to fat and leptin and our need to control it. One can control their insulin production and fat by dietary changes and blood sugar supplements.

If you are physically active and taking supplements but still cannot seem to get the energy back in your body and brain, then it's time to look at how much and what kind of protein you are getting. Even though dieters have been using high-protein diets for years, many are unaware of how much protein they actually need and how critical it is to their overall health. Low-protein diets can be lacking greatly in a lot of essential nutrients such as zinc, iron, manganese, chromium, copper, and others. This deficiency can cause illness and fatigue. Protein deficiency leads to difficult recovery from exercise, feeling tired, frequent colds, poor hair or nails, and a cessation in menstrual period for women, which may sound pleasant but is potentially dangerous. People of all ages are not aware of how much their protein needs change as they increase exercise. As your activity increases, so does your protein needs.

Protein is important in your body because every single cell in the body is made up of proteins. Protein is also essential for muscle building, producing red blood cells, the production of various enzymes and hormones, and good hair, nails, and skin. Our immune systems are almost all protein based, so providing our body with protein means that we can fight colds and other infections better. Proteins are also needed in our body to repair muscle damage that occurs during mild exercise. Protein is made from a chain of amino acids and our body cannot make some of these amino acids, which means that they need to be found in our diet. There are eight amino acids that our body cannot make and must be found in our diet every day. These include: isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Although it is nice to know which amino acids are essential, it is even more important to know where you can find these amino acids because your muscles and body need them on a daily basis.

Since proteins are constantly being broken down, it is necessary to get some every day. It is suggested that women aged 19 to 70 need 46 grams of protein per day, while men of the same age need 56 grams. Now that you know that protein is essential to your life, what kind of protein is actually needed? Even though protein can be found in a good diet by simply eating meat, nuts, eggs, and other foods, many of us with busy lives need a quick and convenient source of protein. At a health food store, your choices are soy, casein, whey, and egg. Although the classic protein source is whey protein, the problem is that even though it has a high amount of useable amino acids, some people don't like it or have a hard time taking it. Other proteins like soy and casein don't have the complete amino acid content that your body is looking for.

With all the different forms of protein available one might wonder which is best? Egg white is the perfect protein source. Egg whites contain more than half the protein of an egg and are also rich in chlorine, niacin, potassium, magnesium, riboflavin, selenium, vitamin K, and sulfur. Additionally, egg whites have a high amount of protein but exclude the cholesterol and sodium found in the yolk. Egg white protein is considered almost perfect because human requirements for amino acids and the amino acids contained in eggs are almost identical. Eggs are also one of the well-tolerated proteins, as over 90 percent of the protein of eggs is digested into the individual amino acids that your body needs. Egg white protein is one of the few products on the market that taste good without the added artificial flavors, colors, or additives.

A lot of health conscious adults are now attempting to keep a youthful appearance for as long as possible by exercising, taking growth hormone enhances, and using expensive cosmetics. However, studies have proven that the major signs of aging in the skin, joints, and eyes occur due to a progressive collagen and hyaluronic acid degradation in our tissues. Researchers believe that supplementation of these key nutrients can actually reverse sings of aging.

Normal functioning of the skin requires that there be normal physiological substances in and around the skin cells. Of the many substances that are required for normal functioning, collagen is one of the most important. Collagen provides structural support to skin, which helps to maintain skin tone, subtleness and elasticity. All of these give the skin its amazing beauty. Without enough collagen, our body would actually lose any connective properties and its ability to hold together, causing the sagging and wrinkles that are associated with age.

Hyaluronic acid is also a vital component of the skin's structure. HA is a big part of the space between living cells and is also present in both the dermis and epidermis, where it allows skin to retain moisture and acts as a lubricant between the collagen matrix of the skin. Younger looking skin typically has higher levels of HA, but it has been observed that hyaluronic acid content declines as we age, most dramatically after the age of 50. Most people after the age of 40 have already lost a lot of HA and may require supplementation. High concentrations of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate are able to reach the corium layers of the epidermis and provide cellar level nourishment to the skin. This then reveals a more vibrant and younger looking complexion.

Doctors believe that osteoarthritis affects more than 20 million Americans, with that number reaching 40 million by the year 2020. Some doctors believe we're headed for an epidemic of degenerative joint disease. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition marked by the erosion of the cartilage at the ends of the bones. Cartilage is the shock absorber of the joint, with regular wear and tear on the joints eventually softening, fraying, and thinning the substance. Other things that can cause cartilage degradation and osteoarthritis have recently been identified by scientists, including: weak quadriceps muscles, eroding cartilage, and changes in bone structure. Certain genes also play a role in predetermining cartilage status, and left untreated and unchecked, this can become extremely debilitating.

Since normal joint function requires healthy cartilage and bones, one of the most important substances required for the normal functioning of joints is collagen. As we age, it has been observed that there is a decrease in the production and concentration of collagen in the joints. The lack of this vital structure leads to joint pain and inflammation. Common treatments today include the prolonged use of painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors which temporarily relieve pain and cover up the symptoms while the disease moves further. More often, these treatments worsen the condition instead of helping it due to their harmful side effects. A natural supplement containing Collagen II can not only halt the progression of arthritis but can also improve the condition and provide relief to sufferers.

Nobody wants to be overweight. Almost 50% of women and 25% of men are trying to lose weight at any given time. However, most are not successful in fighting fat. In the past 25 years, obesity has increased 6%, with 61% of American adults being overweight. Among those who do lose weight, 95% regain all of the weight they lost within three years. However, recently a nutritional supplement called 7-ketohydroepiandrosterone (7-keto) has been studied for its ability to help people lose weight.

People who are overweight have a much higher risk for developing heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, certain types of cancer, gout, and gallbladder disease, than those who are of normal weight. It can also cause sleep apnea, infertility in women, and osteoarthritis. You are more likely to have health problems the more overweight you are. Half of the 61% of Americans who are overweight are obese. Obesity, stated in the simplest terms, is excessive fatness. A body mass index (BMI), which takes into account a person's weight and height to determine total body fat in adults, of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, while a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.

Being overweight or obese can harm health in many ways. The risk for Type II diabetes increases greatly in overweight and obese individuals. Diabetes increases the risk for heart disease and stroke, which are the leading cause of blindness, kidney disease and a major cause of leg amputation. Obesity can also cause the heart to work harder, leading to enlargement and heart failure over time. Cancer has also been linked to weight gain, as excess fat changes metabolism and leads to abnormal cell growth. Overweight people are more likely to get rectal, colon, kidney, prostate, breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers. Being overweight can also lead to osteoarthritis, issues with anesthetic agents, and slower wound healing. Obesity is the second leading preventable cause of death after cigarette smoking. The more overweight an individual is, the higher his or her mortality ratio will be.

There are very little obese and overweight people in many European countries because Europeans have access to a variety of healthful foods. Those who live in the Mediterranean eat great amounts of fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, lean meats, and olive oil. According to many studies, this type of diet can result in a long, healthy life. A lot of the reason my Americans are so overweight has to do with the fact that we are so busy. Our way of life of eating on the run from fast food restaurants and eating high-calorie snacks as we watch TV only worsens our weight issues.

Excessive food intake is not the only factor to blame for being overweight. As we age, our metabolism and energy expenditure changes, both of which contribute to fat storage and obesity. When overweight individuals change their eating habits and lose weight, their body attempts to maintain fat stores and minimize the weight loss. This occurrence is known as the "set point" for body fat. According to its theory, the set point will adjust itself to maintain a comfortable weight for the body. If calories are restricted, the metabolism will slow to preserve fat stores, which is nature's way of preventing starvation. Once the weight is lost and calories are no longer restricted, the metabolic rate will rise once again. Research has determined that the human body has a genetically determined set-point weight that is controlled by metabolic hormones and fat cell enzymes. However, there are ways to adjust the set point. Recent studies using 7-keto have been able to increase the activity of the enzymes that are associated with metabolism. Even a minor shift in our metabolic rate can have a huge impact on calories burned. 7-keto plays a role in many body functions, which include immune response, memory, skin integrity, and weight management and is a safe DHEA metabolite. DHEA has been shown to suppress weight gain, even when the subject eats more. However, DHEA should not be used for weight loss because it causes a build-up of testosterone and estrogen in men and women, which increases their risk for reproductive cancers including breast and prostate cancer. 7-keto offers many of DHEA's benefits without the conversion into sex hormones, and happens to be even more potent than DHEA for stimulating enzymes in the liver which are responsible for burning calories.

7-keto has been proven in many studies to be an effective weight loss aid. In one study, two groups of fifteen subjects were given either 7-keto or a placebo, and exercised three times a week for 45 minutes each time. They were also assigned a 1,800 calorie diet. The study, which lasted eight weeks, proved that there was a significant decrease in body weight and body fat in the 7-keto group, which was not found in the placebo group. The group using the 7-keto experienced a significant increase in T3 thyroid hormone activity, while still in acceptable normal ranges. Although 7-keto can jump start weight loss by boosting metabolism and lowering the body weight set point, it cannot produce weight loss without a healthy diet and regular exercise. Those participating and the weight-loss study took 100 mg of 7-keto twice a day. 7-keto has been proven to be safe for long term use in both experimental and clinical trials and toxicology studies have found no adverse effects in doses as high as 140,000 mg in an average-sized adult. Furthermore, 7-keto impacts the T3 hormone by shifting one's weight set point, which in turn helps to keep pounds off now and in the future. After the individual loses weight, they can reduce the amount of 7-keto used, or they can rely upon regular exercise to support an increased metabolism. If your body weight begins to increase, you can use 7-keto once again as needed to support the metabolic rate. Although instant weight loss is impossible, a steady and successful weight-loss program is possible with the consumption of nutritious foods, aerobic activity five times a week, drinking 64 ounces of water each day, and committing to a more healthful lifestyle. Along with these, the use of 7-keto as a dietary supplement to boost our metabolism and lower our set point is a great way to give us a jump start on weight loss.

Adding supplements to your diet to help reduce weight is a great choice for many Americans. Loosing weight can be difficult and if you suspect your weight gain is because of some other underlying problem, such as low thyroid consult your doctor before beginning a supplement or diet program. Great supplements such as 7-keto DHEA can be found at your local or online vitamin store.

The "Awesome Foursome," which includes Coenzyme Q10, L-Carnitine, D-Ribose, and Magnesium, assists our hearts to better metabolize energy and protects them from the stress of cardiovascular disease. This combination goes straight to the basic biochemistry of cellular energy metabolism. In order to see how Coenzyme Q10, L-carnitine, D-Ribose, and magnesium work together to promote cardiovascular health, we must first the affects of each one in particular.

Coenzyme Q10, a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the mitochondrial membrane, mitochondrial membrane, mitochondrial DNA, and cell walls from free-radical attack, is most important in the body for its central role in energy metabolism. About ninety percent of the ATP is used by the cells for food and oxidized in the mitochondria. Fatty acids, carbohydrates, and proteins enter the Krebs' cycle and move from step to step spinning off electrons after being carried across the mitochondrial membrane. These electrons are sent to the electron transport chain where the energy is captured as a phosphate group is added to ADP, forming ATP. By recycling ATP, CO2 and water are produced in the process called oxidative phosphorylation. Through this, Coenzyme Q10 makes sure that the electrons are carried to just the right place to pass on their energy. Without Coenzyme Q10, the electron transport chain would completely break down. Because the electron transport chain is the largest contributor to cellular energy turnover, losing it would be catastrophic to the body. It is necessary for there to be an excess of Coenzyme Q10 in the mitochondria to be maximally effective. Only having enough is not sufficient in order for the job to be done properly, while a deficiency greatly affects the mitochondria's ability to supply the cell with energy. Coenzyme Q10 deficiency can be caused by cellular stress, as it places a great deal of strain on Coenzyme Q10 availability. Those with heart disease, hypertension, gingival disease, and Parkinson's disease are known to be deficient in Coenzyme Q10. Although it is not determined whether the deficiencies are the cause or the effect of these medical problems, the result is that they sap the life out of the mitochondria and reduce energy supplies. Coenzyme Q10 cannot function properly if there are no electrons coming out of the Krebs' cycle and the Krebs' cycle does not work without the fuel transported into the mitochondria by L-carnitine.

Because fatty acids are the preferred energy fuel for hearts and most other cells in the body, L-carnitine is necessary for its ability to facilitate beta oxidation of fatty acids as energy fuel. This action is critical to cell and tissue function because fatty acids are the preferred fuel for energy recycling in cells. L-carnitine is deficient in people with heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, lipid metabolic disorders, mitochondrial disorders, which disrupts the normal metabolism of fatty acids and reduces available energy supplies and leads to the accumulation of toxic by-products from fatty acid metabolism. Through L-carnitine supplementation, fatty acid metabolism can be revived and normal mitochondrial function can be restored. However, this improvement in cellular energy metabolism can't make up for the energy drain that comes from the loss of energy that is caused by low oxygen delivery to the tissue. But, D-Ribose can make up for the energy drain.

As long as there is enough L-carnitine and Coenzyme Q10 in the body, the process of energy utilization and supply can proceed, allowing cells and tissues to have plenty of oxygen and leaving the pool of energy substrates in the cell high. The cellular supply of oxygen can be restricted by acute or chronic heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, many skeletal or neuromuscular diseases and even high-intensity exercise. Cells that are deprived of oxygen cause the mitochondrial energy turnover to become inefficient. Because oxygen is required to let the oxidative pathway of energy recycling to work properly, the cellular energy supply cannot keep up with the demand if the mitochondria can not recycle energy efficiently. However, the cell has a constant need for energy, causing it to use all its ATP stores and then continue to break down the by-product ADP, leaving AMP which is quickly broken apart by the by-products and washed out of the cell. This results in depletion in the cellular pool of energy substrates. Ribose is the only compound that is used by the body to refill the energy pool. It is made naturally in the cells from glucose. Although every cell in the body has the capacity to make ribose, the heart, muscles, and most other tissues lack the metabolic machinery to make ribose rapidly when the cells are stressed from oxygen depletion. When oxygen deprivation is chronic or when energy metabolism is disrupted by disease, there may be so much strain on the energy supply pool that the pool cannot refill without the assistance of supplemental ribose. With supplemental ribose, the cell is able to keep up with the energy drain.

Magnesium, an essential mineral that is critical for energy requiring processes, protein synthesis, membrane integrity, nervous tissue conduction, neuromuscular excitation, muscle contraction, hormone secretion, maintenance of vascular tone, and intermediary metabolism, can lead to changes in neuromuscular, cardiovascular, immune, and hormonal function; impaired energy metabolism, and reduced capacity for physical work when there is a deficiency. A deficiency of magnesium may reduce the activity of important enzymes that are used in energy metabolism. Without adequate levels of magnesium in our cells, the cellular processes of energy metabolism can not function. Even the slightest changes in magnesium levels can have a great effect on heart and blood vessel function. Although magnesium is found in most food, deficiencies are increasing due to softened water and a trend in lower vegetable consumption.

Each member of the "Awesome Foursome" is fundamental to energy metabolism on its own, playing a vital role in supplying the heart with the energy needed to preserve its contractile force. Each is effective independently in helping hearts work through the stress of disease, but together they are unbeatable. In order to fuel all its metabolic functions, the cell needs a large, healthy pool of energy. To keep the pool vibrant and healthy, the cell needs ribose. Even with supplemental ribose, the cell needs the efficient turnover of its energy stores to balance ongoing energy utilization and supply, which is where Coenzyme Q10 and L-carnitine come in. These two nutrients keep mitochondrial operations running at peak efficiency. Magnesium acts as the glue, holding energy metabolism together by turning on the enzymes that drive metabolic reactions. Together, these four nutrients reduce suffering and improve the quality of life for thousands of people. Coenzyme Q10, L-Carnitine, D-Ribose, and Magnesium can be found at your local or internet health food store.

Even though a lot of herbal medicines have yet to be scientifically supported in the West, logic proves that people wouldn't be using an herbal product for centuries if it didn't work. A great deal of the herbs that we now recognize as having great health benefits were recently considered fairly exotic, a main one being Green Tea, which has just recently gone mainstream. It is predicted that this same event will occur with herbs from the Amazon basin, which is one of the most bountiful places on the planet. It has been explored and looked at for generations for "the next big thing," which in most cases has already been in use for centuries. There are many energizing herbs that also have great antioxidant properties, which are also available to us here in the United States.

Maca root, which has been cultivated for at least 2000 years, is related to plants including radishes, mustard, and cabbage. It is cultivated by the Andean people in Peru, where it is found to contain a great deal of beneficial compounds that enhance overall health and vitality. Some strains of maca root have been cultivated in Incan sites since 1600 BC During early European colonization, maca root was used as a form of currency, similar to the way cocoa was used by the Aztecs. This plant thrives in high altitudes between 10,000 and 16,000 feet. It seems that the harsher the conditions, the better it grows, as efforts to grow the plant in Central Europe haven't been successful as compared to its home turf in Peru. Maca root is a popular, nutrient-packed super food which is commonly powdered and mixed into drinks. Because maca root is a natural energizer, it has libido enhancing abilities, as well as many others. It acts as an adaptogen, being known as "Peruvian Ginseng" in South America. Maca root is most commonly recommended for boosting the immune system, menopause support, and hormonal balance in general. It is a great source of energy and for all-day endurance. The alkaloids found in maca root are partially responsible for maca's energizing abilities and libido boost. Research has proven that the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (HPA) boosts energy and overall aphrodisiac abilities in both men and women. Maca root contains compounds called macamides and macaenes which have been scientifically proven to enhance energy, stamina, and sexual function. There are other reasons why maca root is such a great plant. One group of compounds, isothiocyanates, reduces the risk of breast and stomach cancer.

Guarana, loved for its mild stimulating effect, has many benefits. It is such a big part of the culture in Brazil that it actually out-sells Coca-cola in its soft-drink form. Similar to many other herbs, Guarana was used locally well before European settlement. This evergreen vine usually climbs fairly far up the Brazilian forest trees, its seed being the main part that gets used. It also contains powerful antioxidants including catechin, epicatechin, and proanthocyanidins that protect cells from destruction of free radicals and also give benefits to the body's tissues and blood.

Catuaba, a common tree found in South America, contains many components known as alkaloids. These alkaloids are responsible for the mental boost that most people get when they take a catuaba-based supplement or mix. Catuaba bark can be a little bit confusing because there are many species using the same common name. Make sure to read labels carefully, as the one that results with the best luck is Erythroxylum catuaba.

Coffee Fruit, specifically the bright, red berry that is the seed of the coffee fruit, is often left behind in the process of making coffee. This is because it is too delicate to last long in the hot conditions necessary to make coffee. However, advances in technology have made the "coffee cherry" extract possible. This extract is not just another antioxidant. It also decreases tumor size and possibly even prevents their formation in the first place. The elements in coffee berry activate T-lymphocytes which shrink mammary tumors or simply put them on hold.

Muira Puama, which grows between 15 and 45 feet high and is native to the Amazon basin of Brazil, has been used for centuries for energy support. Some of its included components are beta-sitosterol, campesterol, and lupeol. Like other nervous system stimulants, muira puama has been researched lately for its ability to boost memory retrieval and protect brain tissue. This herb is also able to improve low libido and poor erectile function in men after only two weeks.

Acai berry, a traditional favorite food source for people in the Amazon, grows on a tall-growing palm and provides a rich source of anthocyanins, which are purple pigments that have extremely high antioxidant activity. Once the fruit is harvested, it decays rapidly. Therefore, special processing is necessary to make sure that all the nutrients of acai berry are included. Not only do these fruits fight against free radical damage, but they also help natural digestive enzymes and boost natural immune defenses. Current research is investigating the effects of acai berry on leukemia, as results have been very positive so far. When choosing a supplement, make sure to look for one that is organically-grown. The best companies employ local people to harvest acai so that they provide jobs and better lives for future generations to come.

Sustainability refers to a set of naturally occurring circumstances that ensure that all members of a situation are adequately nourished to promote their healthy continuance as well as practices in programs designed and implemented to keep natural systems healthy and flourishing. Many of these programs focus on environmental protection and preservation of traditional cultures. In the realm of medicinal plants, sustainable practices consist of organic agriculture, species management, fair trade, and benefit-sharing programs. To sum it up, sustainability pays people fair wages, puts resources back into the communities they came from, and ensure that the resources that benefit us all are going to stay around for a long time to come. It is an earth-friendly, people-friendly concept of commerce that is thankfully being put into effect all around the world.

Herbal supplements are a great way to boost energy, boost immune response, and boost libido when taken correctly. Always consult your health care provider for conditions such as loss of energy, chronic colds from low immune system, or no libido because symptoms like these are not normal to healthy individuals and need address by a processional. Great supplements like maca root, catuaba, muira puama, acai berry, and green tea can all be found at your local or internet health food store.

Have you ever thought about what is going into your body each day? If not, then you should. One of the main ways to feel and be healthier is eating nutritious food and making sure your GI (gastrointestinal) tract has the right tools to digest and absorb nutrients. The GI tract, which includes the stomach and intestines, works to digest food and eliminate waste. A variety of "good" bacteria, called probiotic bacteria, can help to keep the digestive running as well as digest food, process waste, and keep take care of "bad" bacteria which causes disease and illness.

Although some kinds of bacteria do cause illness and disease in humans such as strep throat, the majority of bacteria do not cause disease. Instead, they are actually beneficial and are used in the manufacturing of food and beverages like buttermilk, yogurt, cheese, sausage, and acidophilus milk. These same kinds of "good" bacteria can also be found in our intestines, where they help keep the digestive system running by digesting food and processing waste. Probiotics, or live bacteria that is non-toxic and does not cause disease, are found in yogurt, intestines, and most natural supplements.

Up until the middle of the last century, bacteria found in food ingredients naturally were used to make fermented food products such as cheese. This process was known as wild fermentation. However, this process is no longer used, as the probiotic bacteria found in food and natural supplements now are harvested through a highly controlled fermentation process resulting in high numbers of bacteria and ensuring quality and purity of the bacteria.

Probiotic bacteria are very important for digestive health. Normal microflora (intestinal bacteria) is associated with good health, as an imbalance in this natural microflora is linked to various disease states including yeast infections and cancer. By eating foods or taking a nutritional supplement containing probiotic bacteria, one can help support and modify the composition of the intestinal bacteria. These bacteria will offer protection against disease-causing bacteria, and stimulation of the immune system.

Lactose is an important sugar that is converted to lactic acid by lactic acid bacteria. Lactose intolerance results when there is an inability to digest lactose because of a failure of the small intestine mucosal cells to produce lactase, which is an enzyme needed in order to digest lactose. This is often caused by genetics, gastrointestinal disease, or a decline in the amount of intestinal lactase levels associated with aging. People who are deficient in lactase accumulate non-absorbed lactose in the GI tract, drawing water and electrolytes into the gut and speeding waste through the intestines which leads to bloating, cramping, and diarrhea. About 50 million people in the US have partial or complete lactose intolerance. Lactic acid bacteria have been shown to help the breakdown of lactose by enhancing the activity of lactase and improving lactose digestion and tolerance.

Digestive enzymes including protease, amylase, and lipase act upon food by breaking it down into simpler components that can be used by the body for energy. Without these enzymes, digestion could not take place and the food that we eat could not be absorbed and utilized by our bodies. Probiotics help the digestive enzymes to digest food and process waste, working together to ensure that the digestive tract is running smoothly. When they are taken together, enzymes ensure greater levels of digestion and absorption of your food while probiotic bacteria aid the enzymes in the digestion while keeping problems in check.

However, ensuring a healthy digestive system is not the only use for probiotics. Probiotic bacteria have been found to prevent vaginal yeast infections in women that suffer from these reoccurring infections. Probiotics keep levels of Candida, a fungus component of the normal GI microflora, in check, preventing overgrowth which is associated with vaginal infections, oral thrush, or even serious systemic yeast infections. Probiotic bacteria have also been shown to have anti-cancer properties and significant benefits for inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Along with the above, probiotic supplementation can improve and prevent skin diseases such has eczema and actually control inflammation that is associated with skin conditions.

In order to ensure optimal support of the digestive system, probiotics should be replenished by consumption of foods containing probiotic bacteria or by taking a probiotic natural supplement, as probiotic bacteria do not permanently colonize in the body. Whatever form you choose to replenish the intestinal probiotics, they should be ingested daily to ensure their health-promoting effects. The critical factor to a good supplement is not how many bacteria that supplements contains, but how many bacteria reach the intestines healthy, vigorous, and ready to work. A good supplement will deliver at least 1 billion living, healthy probiotic bacteria to your intestines with each dose. The critical key to a good quality supplement is, once again, that the bacteria are alive and can colonize in the intestines. A good quality product will have guaranteed levels of live bacteria at the point of consumption rather than at the point of manufacture. To ensure that the bacteria are live at the point of consumption, look for a product that has a "use by" or "expiration" date clearly stated on the package. It is also important to look for a probiotic supplement that does not require refrigeration, as those that do have often been subjected to warm temperatures during shipment and storage that will kill off some or even all of the bacteria. Along with this, it is important that the label guarantees live bacteria at the time of purchase, not at the time of shipment or manufacturing. There is one scientifically validated process truly delivers live bacteria to the intestines by suspending the probiotic bacteria in a moist paste that seals the bacteria in a gelatin ball, completely protected from air and dryness, so the bacteria are alive until the specialized gelatin dissolves in the intestines. Because probiotic bacteria are anerobic, they do not require oxygen to live, and the presence of oxygen can actually injure or kill them. In addition, this coating which seals in the bacteria eliminates the need for the nutritional supplement to be refrigerated. However, it can be kept in the refrigerator if desired. By protecting the bacteria on the shelf and in the body, the probiotic can successfully reach the intestine, resulting in a greater number of healthy, intact bacteria to colonize in the intestine.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

About 44 million American men and women suffer from osteoporosis (severe bone loss) or osteopenia (mild bone loss), with women being affected twice as much as men. Each year, at least 1.5 million hip, vertebra, or wrist fractures occur in the United States because of osteoporosis. Although bone mass normally declines after age thirty-five, bone loss that is severe enough to cause fractures after only a minor trauma is a different problem.

Some of the risk factors for osteoporosis include: small body frame, underweight, Caucasian or Asian race, a sedentary lifestyle, cigarette smoking, excessive alcohol or caffeine intake, high intake of carbonated beverages, and having other family member with osteoporosis. Certain medical conditions such as diabetes, celiac disease, hyperthyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic obstructive lung disease, hyperadrenalism, and hyperparathyroidism are also associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis. There are also some medications that increase the rate of bone loss such as those prescribed for seizures and blood thinning, prednisone and other steroids, aluminum-containing antacids, and loop diuretics. By engaging in regular weight bearing exercise, avoiding excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeine, and quitting smoking, the rate of bone loss will be slowed. Eating adequate amounts of protein and supplementing with various vitamins and minerals also enhances bone health.

Calcium salts are absorbed about the same for most people, absorbing between thirty to forty percent of the administered dose. Those with low stomach acid, hypochlorhydria, should not use calcium carbonate because it is absorbed poorly without stomach acid. For many older people, calcium phosphate is preferable because phosphorus is necessary for normal bone formation. Calcium that is bound to phosphorus is the form in which calcium is stored in the bone, and has a much greater bone activity than other forms.

In order to promote strong bones, vitamin D is a necessary nutrient. Because vitamin D is produced when ultraviolet rays from the sun hit the skin, those people who stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen, or live in a northern latitude are at an increased risk of vitamin D deficiency. Aging also decreases a person's ability to produce vitamin D in the skin. Supplementation with 700-800 IU of vitamin D per day has been proven to decrease the number of hip fractures by 26%. However, 400 IU per day was ineffective. In addition to improving bone health, vitamin D improves nerve and muscle function in older people, which reduces their risk of falling down. 800 IU of vitamin D per day in elderly women has shown to decrease the number of falls by about 50%. The "safe upper limit," as determined by The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine is 4,000 IU per day. However, you most likely don't need nearly this much to help bone issues.

Because bone is a living tissue that is constantly remodeling itself and engaging in many biological functions, it has a wide range of nutritional needs. Not getting enough of one or more of the important micronutrients needed is an important contributing factor to osteoporosis. In addition to supplementing with calcium and vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, vitamin K, boron, strontium, silicon, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, phosphorus, and vitamin C are all shown to have a vital role in bone health. Calcium is a component of the mineral crystals that makes up the bone. Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption and prevents falls by improving nerve and muscle function. Magnesium is important in bone mineralization, which is similar to zinc. However, zinc also increases bone loss. Copper also promotes bone mineralization and decreases bone loss. Manganese plays a vital role in the creation of the connective-tissue components of the bone. Boron supports the creation of bone-protecting hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, and DHEA. Silicon has a vital role in the synthesis of connective-tissue components in the bone. Deficiency of silicon has been associated with bone abnormalities. B vitamins, including folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12, have been shown to lower blood levels of homocysteine. A high level of homocysteine concentration is a very big risk factor for fractures in elderly people. Strontium is a trace mineral that is incorporated into bone and increases bone strength. It stimulates bone formation and inhibits bone breakdown. Vitamin K is best known for its effect on blood clotting. However, it is also required for the creation of osteocalcin, which is a unique protein that is found in bone and participates in the mineralization process. The amount of vitamin K needed for optimal bone health is greater than that amount needed to prevent bleeding. Deficiency in any of these nutrients is often associated with the development of osteoporosis.

There are two forms of vitamin K that are present in food, vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is found in leafy green vegetables and some vegetable oils. Vitamin K2 is found in much smaller amounts in meat, cheese, eggs, and natto. Vitamin K2 can occur in more than one form, menaquinine-4 (MK-4), a licensed prescription drug in Japan, and menaquinone-7 (MK-7), which is extracted from natto. Research has shown that MK-7 is the ideal form of vitamin K. After oral administration, it was better absorber and lasted long in the body compared to MK-4 and vitamin K1. Even though both have shown the ability to prevent osteoporosis, a much lower dosage of MK-7 is required to obtain the beneficial effects. MK-7 has greater biological activity, bioavailability, and more potent effects on the bone.

Strontium is very important in building strong bones. After being studied by bone health researchers, it has been determined that lower doses are not only safer for long-term supplementation, but also have a greater impact on bone health than high doses. Too little of a dose and bone density will be impaired, but too much and health will be impaired. In this case, dosing needs to be just right for optimal impact. Therefore, keeping supplemental strontium at less than 6 mg per day is the best decision.

Nutrients work by different mechanisms than osteoporosis drugs, allowing them to have the ability to be taken with osteoporosis medications and enhance the beneficial effect of these medications. Because calcium and other minerals may interfere with the absorption of osteoporosis medications, they should be taken at least two hours before or two hours after taking osteoporosis medications. It is always best to also discuss the supplements with your healthcare practitioner to create the best health plan for you. The above supplements and other fine products can be found at your friendly internet health food store.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

With more than 50 million Americans suffering from chronic headaches, back pain, muscle strain, and arthritis, along with pain from chronic illnesses including diabetes, lupus, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis, and another 25 million dealing with acute pain as a result of an injury or surgery, the presence of pain is becoming a national healthcare crisis. Although most pain can be relieved with proper care, the problem is that most pain goes untreated, under treated, or improperly treated. Significant amounts of research has proven that pain should never be ignored, as the management of pain leads to reduction in stress and a faster healing body. This research has also proven that inflammation is frequently a factor in pain. It can even be the cause of the pain in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, and fibromyalgia. Even though there are powerful prescription medications available to treat chronic pain and inflammation, they only provide temporary relief and often have unpleasant and potentially harmful side effects. Instead, a safe, highly effective, natural intervention is needed to eliminate the beginnings of inflammation and the pain it causes.

Inflammation, the redness, warmth, swelling, and pain that occurs, begins when white blood cells release chemicals in response to a virus or bacteria, or to provide protection immediately after an injury. Some of these chemicals cause a leak of fluid into the affected tissue, which in turn causes swelling. The redness and warmth are caused by an increased blood flow to the area, and the pain is caused by nearby nerves being stimulated. These symptoms of inflammation usually go away after the injury heals or the sickness resolves. However, in chronic inflammation, the warmth, redness, swelling, and pain never fully go away. The inflammation continues and actually causes harm to the surrounding tissues, which is what happens in autoimmune diseases. Inflammation is also a part of chronic pain that isn't caused by autoimmune disease. Chronic back pain, for example, which affects millions of Americans every day, is the number one reason adults seek help from their healthcare practitioners. Although it can begin with a trauma to the back, it can also occur from poor posture or the presence of abdominal fat. Once the back muscles become strained, inflammation will result and pain will persist.

Because certain fats and oils react differently in our bodies, research has proven that some of the foods we eat can trigger inflammation. Arachidonic acid (animal fats or trans fats from hydrogenated oils) cause our body to produce pro-inflammatory compounds which initiate the unnecessary inflammation seen in autoimmune disease, chronic back pain, and osteoarthritis. A diet high in these unhealthy fats and oils could be promoting pain and inflammation every time we eat a meal. Poorly digested protein can also trigger inflammation because protein's structure is very complex. The proteins we eat in foods must be broken down into smaller molecules, or amino acids that are ready for absorption, by protein enzymes called proteases. If we are stressed, using antacids for heartburn, eating unhealthy food, or deficient in protease, the proteins we consume will not digest properly and not be broken down into small enough units for proper absorption, which results in oversized protein molecules. The oversized molecules will trigger the release of histamine and other inflammatory compounds, which can cause gas, bloating, belching, and feeling full for a long time after eating, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and inflammation. Even more problems can occur if these oversize proteins are absorbed into the body, causing leaky gut syndrome.

Scientists have discovered that using supplemental, animal-based enzymes, the best being high-potency pancreatic enzyme complex, can result in greatly improved health. In order to understand how pancreatic enzymes work; we must first understand how our pancreas works. A digestive organ, the pancreas is about ten inches long and is located behind the stomach. It produces many different enzymes which are each responsible for breaking down different types of food into small particles that are able to be absorbed. The three main enzymes are amylases, which digest carbohydrates, proteases, which digest protein, and lipases, which digest fats. After leaving the pancreas, the enzymes are secreted into the intestines where they become active and improve digestion, assist the work of our pancreas, prevent damage caused by autoimmune disorders, and reduce inflammation.

Pancreatic supplements can be taken for pain and inflammation that isn't chronic by simply taking two tablets three times a day between meals until the pain and inflammation are gone. The supplements must be taken with meals in order to be active throughout the body, not just in the digestive tract. There is a great amount of difference between pancreatic nutritional supplements. Most supplements are prepared from fresh porcine (pig) pancreases. If you use a 1X USP pancreatic enzyme product, it will contain less than 25 units of amylase activity, no les than 2 units of lipase activity, and no less than 25 units of protease activity. The higher the potency number, the higher its strength will be. For example of 6X USP supplement will be six times stronger than a 1X USP supplement. When purchasing a product, make sure that it has the highest pancreatic enzyme complexes available and that the label identifies it as a full strength product. Full strength pancreatic enzyme supplements (10X USP) are preferred to lower potency products because lower products are often diluted with salt, lactose, or galactose to achieve the desired strength. By taking a 10X full-strength pancreatic enzyme supplement every day, we will experience reduced pain and inflammation; improved protein digestion; lowered risk of heart disease; less chance of autoimmune disease; increased lean muscle mass; and less stored fat.

Pancreatic enzyme supplements may also be helpful as part of a treatment plan for cancer. Studies have shown that the supplement can help patients to stay alive and well, reduce side effects from chemotherapy, and help those exposed to cancer-causing agents stay alive longer. Not only can pancreatic enzyme improve survival rates for cancer patients, but they can also minimize the effects of the harsh conventional treatments of cancer. These and other natural enzyme supplements are available at your friendly internet health food and vitamin store.

Coat racks are great, lightweight, inexpensive ideas for storage, especially if you're somebody who likes to throw your clothes on the floor. However, for small spaces like studio apartments, they can take up valuable floor space needed for other things. The solution to this is the wall coat rack.

Wall coat racks are ideal for small spaces, like a studio apartment your child's room, because they provide a lot of vertical storage space without taking up additional floor space. They can also have shelving included above them to store things that can't be hung, like blankets. They are an ideal alternative to putting in extra closet space when this is an impractical idea for financial or logistical reasons, or when there simply isn't space to do so. All you need to put one in is readily accessible wall space. In some situations, one can also simply be hung on the back of the door to provide handy storage space without taking up any extra wall space.

You can also adjust the height of the wall coat rack for the person using it. For instance, wall coat racks are great way to teach small children to hang up their own coats and clothing. The wall coat rack is easier to use than a traditional closet and hangers are for little fingers, and unlike closets, no special adjustments are needed. Simply position the wall coat rack to the desired height. You will need to be relatively handy with tools to use a wall coat rack because it will need to be mounted to the wall, but this is relatively simple and instructions should be provided, or can be found by doing an Internet search.

There are almost as many choices when you're looking for a wall coat rack as there are when you're looking for a freestanding coat rack. Do you want the modern look of metal, or the classic beauty of wood? What color or theme is the decor you'll be using it with, so that you can find a coat rack that best fits into the room's design? How much space are you going to need? Is this coat rack going to be hung in the hallway so that it will get a lot of traffic, so that you'll need more hanging space? Are you going to need extra storage with it, so that you'll need shelving above the coat racks hooks, or would a mirror be handy?

Whatever the options you choose, the wall coat rack is a great way to use vertical space that would otherwise go unused, very inexpensively and easily!

Coat racks come in a variety of styles and materials, including metal and wood, but perhaps the "classiest" option is the wooden coat rack. Although perhaps a bit more expensive than the metal coat racks, they can be pieces of art in themselves. Just like any other piece of wooden furniture, they can become family heirlooms to pass down, and can add a touch of class to any room. This also goes for wall mounted wall coat racks, although perhaps traditionally, this is most thought of in terms of the freestanding coat rack. Some include extra perks, like built-in benches or mirrors. And who can deny the beauty of a piece of wooden furniture? Unlike a metal coat rack, simply staining or applying a coat of clear varnish to a wooden coat rack is all one needs to let the natural beauty shine through. This is a benefit not available in metal coat racks.

Where does one find wooden coat racks? Well, start at your furniture store, or do a search on the Google search engine online; do your homework first, and see if a local store you know of carries coat racks, or give the store a call to see if it does. Many stores like IKEA also carry them, which, of course, can also be found online. You can also try your local Home Depot, and some larger Wal-Marts also carry them.

Take care of your wooden coat rack just as you would any other piece of wooden furniture. A bit of furniture polish once in awhile will help keep it in good shape, to pass on to the next generation if you so choose.

If you're environmentally conscious, remember, too, that a wooden coat rack is made from completely renewable materials, whereas a metal coat rack is made from materials that are not easily produced and harder on the environment than the tree(s) used to produce the materials for a wooden coat rack. Additionally, given the proper care, a wooden coat rack can easily last longer than a comparable metal one, because it cannot rust. Indeed, with a little care, you can easily pass down your wooden coat rack just as you will that are more your grandmother used. However, remember as well that if you should need to dispose of a wooden coat rack, it is entirely biodegradable. This is not true of metal coat racks. This is because although they rust, they take much longer to actually disintegrate.

So for a touch of class, go for a wooden coat rack versus a metal one. It may cost you a little bit more in the short run, but you'll have a piece of value that will last you for generations to come.

We all agree we have more to do than time to get it done, the truth be told most have the time to get it all done we just don't use our time in a profitable manor. Financial planners all suggest that we write down every purchase we make so that a budget can be created and followed in order to save money. Well is our time not also valuable? It may well be the most valuable time we have. It is an easy excuse that everyone uses I just don't have the time. With a little common sense planning you can free up some much needed time and convert some chore time to family time.

Spend your first week, seven days, 168 hours as usual except get a day planner and write down what you did and how long you did it. At the end of the week take a look at what you did and see if there are any chores errands that then to repeat themselves. I was quite surprised to discover or maybe realize the fact that I went to the grocery store 4 times in one week it dawned on me that I go to the store several times every week. In order to reduce trips to the grocery store make a pre printed check list on your computer you can easily add to the list as needed. Print out your list and simply check off the items you need to get keep the list in a convenient spot in the kitchen so everyone can check off items that are needed. Advise your family there will be only one trip to the store per week so put it on the list.

Another excellent way to conserve time is to change or combine basic chores into family time. Assign everyone in the family a meal day. Everyone will be responsile for one meal per week they will be able to decide what to have for dinner and make sure the ingredients are in stock or are on the grocery list and they will be responsible for preparing the actual meal. Now obviously the age of your kids will dictate how much they can do. The younger ones will need more help which is also a nice way to spend a little extra time with them. The older ones should be able to cook a meal by themselves but this doesn't mean you have to leave the kitchen you can spend the time paying bills or cleaning up the area this gives you a good chance to talk with your teenager and it also helps teach them some basic life skills.

One of the other big factors in saving time is to be organized if you have to clear the table of school books, coats or whatever in order to set the table for dinner you need to organize a good coat rack to hang up those book bags and coats will go along way to eliminate clutter and save some of your highly valuable time.

Most kids view a garden without much enthusiasm they see vast amounts of terrible things like broccoli, spinach and turnips. Couple the dreaded vegetables with the thought of pulling weeds and most kids will run for cover. I can certainly remember what seemed like endless hours spent in my parents gardens using a hoe and picking string beans I hated green beans and it was like cruel and inhumane punishment to make me pick green beans and then force me to eat them.

Today most people have a garden for fun or just to have some fresh vegetables in the summer I do not think as many people have the giant gardens that provided food for the family for the entire year. Several things can be done to make gardening fun and interesting for young kids. One of the first things is to make the overall garden experience a positive one don't force your kids to spend long hours in the garden start with a few minutes at a time remember kids have a short attention span.

Second try to find and focus in on your childs interest if your child likes corn put them in charge of the corn get them involved right from the start they can help pick out the seeds try growing different types of corn don't forget you can grow pop corn. By putting them in charge and being supportive they feel more like they have some power or control over the garden and when you are eating the corn they raised, praise them and they will feel proud and will be looking forward to gardening in the next season.

If your child is interested in birds you can dedicate a portion of your garden to your child to grow things that provide food for the birds over the winter. Sunflowers are a great source of bird food. The high rate of growth coupled with giant size sunflowers make an excellent choice for a young child to grow even as an adult it is hard not to look in wonderment ta giant sunflower. Wheatgrass is also a good source of food for birds that can grow most anyplace. Check with your seed supplier for bird food plants that can be raised in your area.

The biggest thing is to keep your child interested in the garden don't make it seem like work. Use the garden time to teach your child about the world thy live in show them how some insects like lady bugs and praying mantis are good for your garden and other bugs can be harmful to your plants. Explain how all insects are important to keeping the eco system in balance. As long as gardening is kept fun your children they will want to be involved and you can enjoy some quality time with the whole family.

So you have finally purchased that 19th century farm house that you have always pictured yourself living in the problem is how do you finance the restoration? It is easy to get mortgages for the value of the home even a little extra if you have a good credit rating but today a renovation can cost more than the original purchase price of the property.

The first option s to look at your available assets. You can get a home equity loan if there is any equity in your house. Use your credit cards for short term renovation or borrow money from your parents these ideas are only usable in a short term renovation once the renovations completed you should be able to refinance your home and pay of the relatives, high interest credit cards and roll your home equity loan into your mortgage.

You may be able to get a "line of credit" a line of credit is usually easy to get up to $30,000.00 with out much effort and with a minimal amount of paperwork these lines of credit are good for short term renovation that are under the $100,000.00 dollar mark. The interest rates tend to be on the high side but you can draw out the money as you need it and only pay interest on the cash that has been withdrawn and again once the renovation is completed you can refinance and pay of the line of credit and combine all your loans in the mortgage.

Depending on the scope of your renovation you may be eligible for store loans and credit card offers. Many home stores now have their own credit cards they offer deal such as interest free credit for one year you may be able negotiate a longer term. The important thing here is to pay off the loan/credit card prior to the free period expiring otherwise the interest will revert back to the initial purchase. Some stores will also offer you a interest free construction loan for your project the terms of these construction loans vary from store to store read the fine print carefully like the credit card deals these usually have a time limit. Again one the renovation is completed you can refinance and pay off the loan avoiding high interest dept.

Construction loans are generally reserved for larger projects this kind of loan is a short term loan the money can be taken as needed and interest is paid on the money that has been taken out. Almost everyone now offers construction loans this completion has brought the costs of these loans down. The nice thing about construction loans is that you can withdraw the money as you need it once the renovation is done you can refinance and have one closing and one mortgage. One thing you should keep in mind when shopping for a construction loan is the fees and finance charges as always keep an eye on the fine print for hidden charges.

Renting a houseboat maybe one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations you have ever had. Houseboats can range from 44 to 75 feet, are available for rent on many lakes and inland waterways from Lake Mead to the Cumberland. Most models have berths for six to eight or more people and can be equipped with water slides additional equipment, such as scuba gear, canoes, and fishing tackle, is also available. You can even bring your speed boat or jet skies along. The larger houseboats may have all the luxuries of a fine hotel (minus the staff) hot tubs, central heating and air-conditioning, HD TV and th list goes on.

Most of all, houseboats offer a great family get away with adventure or lounging in deck chairs under and endless sky or sleeping in spacious berths listening to the genital lap of the waves far from the lights and noise of the city. The family becomes a crew, with everyone pitching in working and playing together.

Rental rates vary by location, amenities, and season. For instance, on Nevada's spectacular Lake Mead, a seven-day rental of a basic 8O foot houseboat that bunks 8 to 10 people costs about $1,995 in the off-season (October through April); the same model goes for $2,995 per week in summer.

If you are not a confident sailor, the rental company will help you rental agencies can also provide trained captains to pilot houseboats. Some large houseboats require hiring a captain as a rental precondition depending on the location. If you are not into water sports you can always opt for a Recreational vehicles (RVs), especially motor homes, have seen a increase in sales in recent years, with almost 8 million on the registered. Some RV's are like rolling luxury hotels and have the price tag to match too.

Renting an Motor Homes is the most common and affordable option for the newbie, with rates starting around $70 and up from there. The majority of motor homes will average about 8 miles to the gallon, so your greatest expense will be fuel. On the other hand, you can save on lodging: Staying in an RV campground can be around twenty dollars a night to over $100 at high end parks like at Disney Land.

The best reward though, is the freedom of the open road. RV enthusiasts are an extremely sociable bunch, and RV parks and campgrounds often have the spirit of a family reunion.

Whether you choose the open road or the high seas a great family vacation is just around the corner be sure to plan ahead as house boats and RV's are snapped up during the height of the summer vacation.

Do you know someone who is always dropping his or her clothes on the floor instead of taking the time and trouble to hang them up (or do you have a teenager who does so)?

Have you worn something once that's not dirty enough to throw in the laundry but not clean enough to tuck back into drawers or closets with clean clothes?

Do you know someone who lacks the closet space to hang family coats or other clothing up, even though he or she could really use some?

Do you know someone who lacks the funds or space to put extra closets in his or her existing house?

And what about Christmas gifts? Are you on a tight budget?

Are you unsure what to get the "guy who has everything"?

Well, the great solution for all of these things is a coat rack. Coat hooks are inexpensive, lightweight, space-saving solutions for all of these problems and more. And unlike closets or even heavy wardrobes, you can move them wherever you need them without breaking a sweat. Or, use a wall coat rack (or hang one off the back of a door) when floor space is at a minimum.

In addition, coat racks come in just about every color or design under the sun and are available in metal or wood, so you can get one to fit any decor, from modern to classic. They even come in special designs for children, such as the Spiderman coat rack. What a great way to get your little guy to hang up his clothes at night before he goes to bed. Simply do an online search with whatever keywords fit your description, such as "Spiderman coat rack," and see what you come up with. Do you know somebody who just never seems to have enough storage space? A coat rack with attached shelving is a great way to give that person an extra "closet" without the mess or expense installing one takes, and unlike closets, doesn't require extra room; simply and easily accessible wall will do. Do you know someone who just never seems to be able to get themselves ready on time in the morning? Then maybe a coat rack with built-in mirror, complete with bench so he or she can sit down and put on shoes, is a nice option. They can use it to simply hang out their clothes the night before, so there's no rummaging around in the closet in the morning, and cut down on the time it takes to get ready. The built-in mirror provides a way for them to do a final check on hair, makeup, and lipstick, for example, without having to dash to the bathroom.

Given the versatility of the coat rack, you'll be surprised how many relatives and friends just might need one, and given that, you'll be amazed at how quickly your Christmas shopping gets done!

If you need to save space, go with wall mounted coat racks

Do you live in a small space like a studio apartment that doesn't have enough closet space for your coats and your clothing? Do you want an easy to access place in your child's room for him or her to hang clothes up, but find that the room is too small for a freestanding coat rack? Then the answer may be a wall mounted coat rack.

Wall mounted coat racks take up no floor space, which make them ideal for small spaces like studio apartments or a bedroom, but they can go in any abode, even a large house. They are easy to install, usually requiring just a few tools, including electric screwdriver or drill and regular screwdriver, and may also include shelving that you can store flat items such as betting on top of in addition. They are a much less expensive option than installing an extra a closet for extra storage space, and require no extra floor space, unlike a freestanding coat rack or closet installation. The simplest models require no tools or installation at all, and simply hang over a door. They come in both metal and wood and can fit in with any decor.

To start your search for one, as well as to do price comparisons, simply go to the search engine Google on the Internet and type in "wall mounted coat racks." This will provide with a variety of options and will allow you to compare costs of various models, as well as to find handy instructions for installation.

Wall mounted coat racks can be hung at just about any height, and are fairly easy to adjust upward, so they can be raised in height to adjust for a child as he or she grows, for instance. Wall mounted coat racks can also go in any space that's wide enough for the coat rack that you want to use and that has stud support. For instance, a small wall mounted coat rack is perfect for above a child's desk, because it has hooks from which to hang often used but easily lost tools like scissors. Additionally, you can buy coat racks with shelving, so that the shelf above can be used as a bookshelf, or for extra school supplies storage, for instance. Larger coat racks can be used to substitute for extra closet space, to help your child keep his or her room tidy, and/or to provide shelving for extra betting. In a hallway that gets high traffic and is close to the front door, hang a coat rack for guests who come in to instantly hang their coats up. No fumbling for hangers, or for coats once a visit is over.

Contact lenses are now well known for coming in a variety of unique and wild designs. If you want to look unique and wild, contact lenses are the way to go. There are contact lenses in almost any type of look you might want; they are particularly popular for unique and weird designs. Hollywood makes use of special contact lenses in their movies, especially horror movies, with killers and beasts that need to look sadistic and strange.

However, it is important to remember that these types of contact lenses are not used for vision correction. They are only used for "decorative" purposes. They provide a great deal of fun and excitement for the wearer, but have no ability to correct vision. No prescription is necessary as these contact lenses, again, have no correction, so you will not need a prescription from your optometrist. To purchase these types of lenses, just go to your local contact lens retailer, find the type you are looking for, and purchase them.

In some cases, you may experience discomfort or irritation during or after wearing them. If you do, you should make an appointment with your optometrist to prevent further harm or permanent eye damage.

The designs are nearly limitless. Many crazy and odd contact lenses have been created for you to choose from. For example, make your eyes various colors just for the fun of it. Create a mesmerizing spiral look for your eyes. How about displaying pride for your flag or become a part zebra, all with special contact lenses.

There are two basic types of special contact lenses, standard and monthly. Monthly lenses can, of course, be used for up to one month and must then be discarded. Standard does not need to be replaced for a maximum of eighteen months and provide the most comfort.

Wild and crazy contact lenses should be cared for the same as any other contact lens, even though they are not prescription lenses. Cleaning them before use should be standard procedure and when you remove them, they should be soaked in an appropriate solution. Make sure, before handling your special lenses, that your hands are clean. Your eye health is at stake and these lenses require the same attention as prescription lenses, otherwise you may be increasing your risks of a serious infection.

Though most crazy contact lenses are available without prescription, if you require correction, it may be possible that your optometrist might offer corrective crazy lenses in your prescription. Many people want to change their eyes for Halloween, and these Halloween lenses are the most popular among all crazy lenses with correction. Of course, you do not have to reserve the fun only for Halloween. Put them on any time you want to fool with your friends.

Playing pranks on your friends and family is fun and many people are looking for something unique and non-traditional. They do not want to be like everyone else. Unique and crazy contact lenses can provide what they are looking for. There are a great number of unique and creative designs to choose from, and it will guarantee that your eyes get that special look. Even if you want these contact lenses just for fun, and not for vision correction, they need to be treated in the same way. You insert them into your eyes and remove them from your eyes with the exact same method use for prescription lenses. They also need cleaning regularly when not being used.

So, if you are looking to dramatically enhance your eyes, unique and crazy contact lenses are available at affordable prices. Just be sure that you take care of them and your eyes. If you do not, these lenses can lead to very serious problems. Use caution and take care of them as you would for your own eyes. If you have never worn contact lenses before, it may be a good idea to make an appointment with an optometrist and having a contact lens fitting. Not all contacts work with all eyes. The optometrist can point you in the right direction.

Justice is not postponed. A perfect equity adjusts its balance in all parts of life. The dice of God are always loaded. The world looks like a multiplication table, or a mathematical equation, which, turn it how you will, balances itself. Take what figure you will, its exact value, nor more nor less, still returns to you. Every secret is told, every crime is punished, every virtue rewarded, every wrong redressed, in silence and certainty. What we call retribution is the universal necessity by which the whole appears whenever a part appears. If you see smoke, there must be fire. . . Crime and punishment grow out of one stem. Punishment is a fruit that unsuspected ripens within the flower of the pleasure which concealed it. Cause and effect, means and end, seed and fruit, cannot be severed; for the effect already blooms in the cause, the end preexists in the means, the fruit in the seed.

Did you know that even if your home is already equipped with attic insulation, you could still be consuming much more energy than necessary to control the interior temperature of your home? That's because typical attic insulation only reduces conductive and convective heat transfer. By installing a radiant barrier in your home, however, you would be adding a defense against radiant heat transfer, which is the number one cause of energy loss for homeowners.

In order to better comprehend how a radiant barrier works and how it can save you money in the long run, it's important to first understand how the different types of heat transfer affect your home. When the heat transfers through to the inside of the roof—a process known as conduction. Traditional attic insulation works by absorbing the conductive heat and slowing it down. It does not, however, block out radiant heat, which is the heat that travels directly from the inside of your roof to the other solid surfaces of the attic. Ordinary insulation can't block radiant heat because the fibers aren't solid enough to take it in. A massive amount of heat gain in homes is due to radiant heat, and on cold days, a lot of heat loss is a result of radiant heat transfer, too. This means that if your attic insulation does not have a radiant barrier, it is really not doing much to stop heat transfer.

Radiant barriers are made of highly reflective material and cover the surfaces of the attic to deflect radiant heat. Radiant barriers have been proven to block around 97 percent of radiant heat. This is especially helpful if your home's HVAC system is situated in the attic, because the radiant barrier will keep the system from getting hot, too. Since the living areas of your home won't get as hot, your HVAC system won't have to be working overtime and constantly running to keep your home's interior at a consistent, comfortable temperature. And, when your HVAC system is running less, then you're using less energy, which means lower monthly utility bills. Although savings will vary for each homeowner depending on a variety of factors, most people see a drastic difference in their heating and cooling costs—sometimes up to 25 percent. Additionally, installing a radiant barrier in your home could qualify you for certain tax credits.

A radiant barrier can be installed in conjunction with your current attic insulation, or you can find radiant barrier/insulation combinations that are installed together. These combination insulations will block all three forms of heat transfer and are an ideal solution if you are building a new home or replacing your current insulation altogether. Radiant barrier insulations have many other benefits besides just providing energy efficiency, though. Unlike some traditional insulation, high-quality radiant barrier products won't need maintenance or need to be replaced over time. Also, they aren't made with dangerous fibers and won't contain asthma-causing allergens. Older insulation has been known to absorb moisture, whether it's from water leaks or humid air. Radiant barriers repel moisture, though, so they won't bring mildew and mold into the attic.

The effectiveness of a radiant barrier greatly depends on proper installation, however, so it's a good idea to find a local contractor who will provide this service for you. Try doing some research on the Internet to find a contractor near you that specializes in radiant barrier products. Upgrading your insulation with a radiant barrier won't come cheap, but with all the money you will save on heating and cooling costs in the long run, you'll find that installing it is one of the best investments you can make in your home.

How many times have you encountered people in business and the image of the business or the person is so poorly presented it causes you to have a poor opinion of the services offered? It makes no difference if you are the owner or the employee; pride in yourself is evident in your daily dealings with people. Image is very important in business.

Here are some of my suggestions for success:

    1. Dress for success. No matter what profession you are in, everyone has a dress code. For a financial advisor it is a suit, for a landscaper it could be a logoed t-shirt with appropriate length shorts or pants, for a theme-park employee it is the usually a polo-shirt and khaki shorts or pants; most everyone has a dress code and it is up to you to portray your profession correctly.

    2. Communicate effectively. As business owners and professionals it is part of our job to meet and greet people on a daily basis. When doing this you are also presenting your company. Speak clearly and effectively when meeting with people. Practice what needs to be communicated so your potential customers are aware of your company's offerings and services.

    3. Professional grooming. Do you ever wonder why some businesses have dress codes? Your attire and grooming affect all business endeavors positive or negative. It also reflects the pride you have in yourself. Clean and neat go along way when meeting with people. Put your best foot forward, this might be your next customer.

    4. Storefront cleanliness. If you own a business with an office or retail storefront, the image the store has reflects on you and your business. If people are turned off by unsightly messes, dirty floors, disorganized overstocked shelves, do you think they will come back or recommend people to your store?

    5. Know your business. Some people buy businesses or work for businesses they have no idea what they represent. For instance, an owner of an ice cream store normally has a high turnover of young employees. Have an education class for your new employees. Do not have people presenting your product with no product knowledge or customer service skills. If you are a professional, take a course in what you are offering. Perhaps your profession is sales—take a sales training course. There are courses and educational seminars offered frequently in various fields.

    6. Continuing education. Strive to increase your knowledge by taking continuing education courses, read books, subscribe to newsletters with articles of benefit, take online courses; the sources for education are many but to be successful you need to keep learning. Your value to your business or to your employer grows with the knowledge you have to offer.

In my occupation as a business advisor, I see many business owners who struggle to make ends meet, try to do everything themselves, and ultimately they either lose business to the point they finally seek guidance or they end up out of business. Part of the problem is the inability to delegate but also lacking the knowledge to be aware that an investment now will reap greater rewards in the future if guidance is accepted and followed.

My husband and I have a friend who is in the automotive business. The rates are very good and the work ethic is great. We have been utilizing these services over two years and I promote it to all of our friends and business acquaintances. In the last few months, the business is very busy and they are having employee problems. Unfortunately, part of the outcome to the situation is the service has diminished to the point of no call backs on customer inquiries. This business is now affecting my credibility from a referral process. It has become a snowball effect:

Lack of service from business ~ Loss of customers

Complaints to me as the person referring ~ Affects my credibility

No more referrals from me ~ Loss of customers

Word of mouth on poor service ~ Loss of customers

From my point of view this business cycle is due to a lack of poor planning. At this point the business owner is grasping at anything possible to put a band-aid on the problem. With proper guidance and a plan for vision and goals, the steps to achieve success will become clearer.

The planning process is not easy but it is essential. There are several sources for business planning tools:

    Internet

    Small Business Development Centers

    Books

    Computer software

    Business advisor

There are numerous sources so choose the one that fits your needs best.

Do not become a statistic. The time and investment in your business today could mean greater success in the future if applied effectively. Seek the guidance you need to write a plan that will be your roadmap to a successful future.
