The UK has recently endured the coldest winter in 20 years, according to the national press. During the unusually cold spell that rendered much of the country snow-bound in January, newspapers - national, regional and local - were awash with stories of cars sliding across black ice and the resulting injuries. Insurance specialists, too, have reported a dramatic increase in the number of insurance claims during that period. Mike Gibson of the Injury Lawyers said: "The number of car accidents has already risen sharply and, no doubt, there will also be a number of car accident claims." He went on to point out that: "one of the most common and debilitating injuries resulting from car accidents are whiplash related. While this can be minor if treated quickly, if left undiagnosed whiplash injury can become potentially crippling."

Whiplash - The Most Common Personal Injury Claim

It is not just the physical debilitation that should be on the driver's mind, but the potentially financial debilitation of driving without insurance. Whiplash injury is far more common than most people suspect and, according to the NHS, car accidents are the most common cause. It occurs when the soft tissue in the spine is stretched and strained after the body is thrown by a sudden and forceful jerk - such as a collision. Initially, symptoms may take the form of headaches and a stiff neck but generally these disappear within around 48 hours. However, it is still worth reporting to your GP or a hospital as soon as possible as, if left untreated, whiplash can develop into a condition called 'Whiplash Syndrome'. This particular trauma is difficult to treat and symptoms include perpetual headaches, pain, and reduced movement in the neck, tingling in the arms, spinal pain, sleep disruptions and even a loss of libido. The impact of these problems can impact quite severely on a victim's employment as well as their private life.

Insurance offers a financial barrier against the problems incurred by whiplash - a barrier that it would seem that the uninsured are prepared to forego. Whiplash syndrome can force people to take time off work and this can have devastating financial implications. Having the correct insurance removes a layer of stress from what is an already stressful situation; with the right cover, a victim can concentrate on their recovery rather than worrying about how they are going to make ends meet during their convalescence.

Insurance industry chiefs are urging drivers to check that they have the correct level of insurance, so that they are covered for whiplash injury claims and whiplash injury compensation. Hazardous road conditions may find even the most careful of drivers looking down the wrong end of a compensation claim. Without the cover offered by the correct car insurance, the whiplash victim isn't necessarily the only person who will suffer financially.

When taking a car out onto the road, there are more people to consider than just the driver: there is the other driver and passengers in each vehicle. Unless the driver who is liable has the right cover, any one of those people could launch a claim against him for compensation in the event that they suffer a whiplash related personal injury.

Sarah Rossbach is a well-known author and Feng Shui expert.

She has consulted a number of businesses, private clients, and designers. She is a Manhattan native. Today, her books can be purchased through online bookstores, as well as brick-and-mortar bookstores.

From 1983 to 2000, Sarah wrote 5 books on Feng Shui, most of which became popular. Her first book was "Feng Sui - The Chinese Art of Placement" (published in 1983). At the same time, she was writing magazine and newspaper articles on Feng Shui for the Washington Post, the New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, and House & Garden. Back then, she was one of a few people who knew anything about this ancient Chinese notion.

Later she wrote four other books: "Living Color", "Feng Shui Design ", "Feng Shui: The Chinese Art of Placement" (updated version), and "Interior Design with Feng Shui ".

In her books, Sarah Rossbach interprets feng shui and the insights of His Holiness Grandmaster Lin Yun - a renowned feng shui master. Sarah translates this Chinese art into easy to understand Western terms. She studied Mandarin Chinese, which helps her to translate. She is largely responsible for bringing feng shui into the Western culture.

Sarah is a very authoritative writer. Her books have rich text and attractive photos. She offers a guide for understanding and learning to manage the energy flow, and using Feng shui as a tool for well-being.

Her book "Feng Shui: The Chinese Art of Placement" teaches about using Feng shui in design and architecture. Sarah Rossbach interprets the notion of Professor Lin Yun, and offers advice on achieving harmony in one's environment. The tips range from the building's layout to furniture placement to interior design. These tips are for homes, offices, and public places; they can be used for any environment. These tips are designed to help achieve good health, happiness, and financial prosperity in today's world. This book received good reviews from other publishers, including from The New York Times.

Her book "Interior Design with Feng Shui" concentrates on interior design for the most part. In this book, she explains the principles and history of feng shui, and discusses using it in homes, business environments, as well as in gardens. This work expands her earlier work - it has more information on color, and more illustrations.

Her book "Living Color" is an explanation of how color influences our lives. It can inspire or subdue, and make you fortunate or unfortunate. Here she elaborates on Lin Yun's color theory, which is based on Buddhist tradition. Color is described for its benefits, as a cure, and life improving tool. First, she explains the philosophical roots of color theory, and then gives practical suggestions on using color indoors and outdoors to achieve a harmonious life. She talks about the color of food, clothes, and cars, colors for home, garden, and more. The tips by Sarah Rossbach can help you not just purchase a new sofa, get dressed for a job interview, and attract romance using colors, but also to achieve a harmonious and balanced life.

Here are some tips for feng shui love, designed to attract the man or woman of your dreams.

At first glance, these tips may seem simple and even humorous. You don't need to treat them seriously, but who knows, maybe they will help you attract that special man or woman that you have been searching for.

Down with the loneliness! If your home is full of portraits where you are beautiful but lonely - it's best to remove them. Any images that could symbolize loneliness or sadness need to be removed.

Long live the coupling! If you have figurines in your cupboard, have them in pairs. For instance, if you have a porcelain female cat, spend a weekend in search of a porcelain male cat, or maybe even a few kittens. The feng shui love tips can be boiled down to simple math - have everything in 2 (figurines, candles, goblets, vases, and so on).

If you display photos of your family, choose those where the family is depicted together. Consider hanging a picture of a couple of swans, placing a figurine of a couple of mandarin ducks, or hanging Klimt's painting "The Kiss" in your home.

Keep in mind that photos where you are with your exes are best removed. It's best not to have any reminders of past relationships: no forgotten sweaters, shoes, plush toys or dried flowers. To make room for something new, you must first get rid of the old. Skeletons have no place in your wardrobe - there should be a place for your future man or woman. Consider making space for free hangers in the closet, shoes in the hallway, and have a spare toothbrush in the bathroom.

Some Feng Shui Love Magic: Take a round clear vase made of crystal or glass and fill it with water. Place some pretty gemstones and a gold or silver ring inside. Place rose petals on top, and put two floating candles on the water. Place the bowl in the southwest sector of your home, or in the right corner from the entrance to your bedroom. Light the candles every evening, and change the water and petals regularly. Next to the vase, you can place the feng shui ducks.

Bed Check-Out: Your bed should be double. If you sleep with one pillow, get a second pillow. Buy pink linen with hearts. All this should remind the cosmos that you care about love and romance.

Sleeping in Red: Red is a powerful magnet for love, so here's the advice: try to sleep exclusively in red shorts, lingerie, or nightgowns. Many people say that this feng shui love tip helped them find love.

The art of living in harmony with oneself and the environment is the main principle of Feng Shui. The use of special knowledge can help to improve virtually every aspect of life, including personal relationships. Start with your inner self. The great Buddha said to "Love yourself and watch today, tomorrow, and always". The more positive your attitude to life and love is, the more harmonious the relationship with the opposite sex will be. We create our world ourselves - including the love in our lives.

    Profit-Led Drug Shortage Exposed

The Department of Health has reacted strongly against the discovery that a NHS trust sold drugs for export to Europe, making a profit of £300,000. This has come to light at a time when certain drugs and medicines are in short supply, raising concerns about profiteering within the NHS.

The scheme has seen the Royal Surrey County Hospital selling drugs to Europe, primarily because the weak pound allows pharmacists to sell at high prices. The hospital admitted that in 2009 it did around £4.6 million worth of business with wholesalers in the European medicine market. However, at the same time, it has been revealed that there was a shortage of at least 40 well-known drugs used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure, epilepsy and breast cancer. But what do these events tell us about the attitudes that some pockets of the NHS seem to have, when it comes to prioritising people or profits?

Nicholas Jervis, Managing Director of compensation specialists, 1stClaims, believes that there could be a danger in attempting to run the NHS as a business; "The main priority of any business is profit," he explains. "The NHS was set up as a service to the public, not as an organisation that survives through profiteering. Subscribing to the 'business notion' of the NHS means that there is a danger that valuable supplies such as drugs become seen as commodities rather than tools with which to help the sick," he continues.

There is also the suggestion that selling drugs overseas could put UK patients' lives at risk. Selling vital medicines in quantities as large as these could put a sudden and quite severe strain on NHS resources, depriving patients of drugs when they need them the most.. If this is the case, patients who suffer in these circumstances could have legitimate reason to pursue medical negligence claims.

    Lives at risk

These concerns are seemingly borne out by the Director of Policy for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, David Pruce, who says that patients' lives are being put at risk. "We're already seeing patients going without their medicines for days and potentially weeks," he said. "It's only a matter of time before it becomes much more serious." This would certainly seem to be the case for Marion Wilkes from Oxfordshire. According to a report by the BBC, Marion, a breast-cancer sufferer, is taking medicines to regulate her hormones. Over the last few months, she reports that she's been having trouble getting her prescriptions and it is only due to the diligence of her pharmacist that she has been able to get any medication at all. She said: "I don't want to get a recurrence of my cancer - but if you miss out on your drugs, that leaves an opening for it to come back."

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain says that both wholesalers and manufacturers are limiting the supplies that they provide to individual pharmacies. The result is that when pharmacists have dispensed their supplies and require more, they have to take the time to negotiate a further supply, which can take weeks to arrive. All of this leaves the potential for patients to suffer a deterioration in their condition and the potential ramifications of putting profit before patient care could be one that leaves the NHS wide open to a string of legal cases for compensation. "It's an entirely preventable situation," says Nicholas Jervis. "The drugs are available, but due to a profit mentality, they are not reaching the patients they were designed to help. This could put the NHS in a very unsound position should someone decide to use this as the basis for a compensation case," he concludes.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Vibration White Finger (VWF) is a form of Raynaud's Disease and can be caused by repeatedly working with vibrating machinery such as chainsaws and drills. It occurs as the result of a lack of blood to the extremities, such as the fingers or toes. The affected parts initially lose all colour and turn white, giving the condition its name. When an attack takes place, the affected areas can suffer numbness, tingling, severe pain and even go into spasm. While these attacks are often short lived, the disease can be progressive and result in skin ulcers and gangrene.

One of the professions in which VWF is most commonly found is mining. Many miners have found themselves unable to continue working after developing VWF and were invited to claim compensation for their condition through a scheme set up by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). This was in response to legislation passed in 2005 that regulates the amount of time a worker can spend using vibrating equipment. A deadline was set for compensation claims, but it was found that many former miners were given sub-standard legal advice from solicitors working with the DTI and, as a result, either received inadequate compensation or none at all. In addition, the compensation did not take into account the full effects of VWF, including the lack of manual dexterity. This last factor has had a severe impact on the lives of many miners, not only preventing them from seeking out further work, but also preventing them from carrying out the simplest of household tasks such as DIY, window washing, car cleaning and general maintenance.

    The power of the Internet

In response, a new website has been set up dedicated purely to the sufferers of VWF. It advises that there may be some recompense available for these former miners, 50,000 of which are thought to have had their loss of manual dexterity overlooked. Miners who feel that their initial claims gave either been undervalued or overlooked can re-open them under the guidance of a no win no fee solicitor. The website has been created to redress the balance for those who may have been wrongly advised at the time of their claim.

Those who could qualify to have their cases re-opened include miners who were not advised that they could make a claim for loss of earnings when they were diagnosed with VWF, those who were not working at the time and those who were not advised to make a claim for being disadvantaged whilst trying to return to the open labour market. In addition, many miners may be able to reclaim some of the fees they were charged by unscrupulous solicitors who were involved at the start of the proceedings. An investigation by the DTI has found that some solicitors, brought in to cope with the large numbers of compensation claims, were charging miners far more than is acceptable in these circumstances.

It is estimated that over 1 million workers have been exposed to levels of vibration in excess of the limits set by the Health and Safety Executive, with only 300,000 having reported their symptoms. With these statistics, it appears that the website may have continued visits from new claimants for some time to come.

Article Title: Using Feng Shui Coins to Make Wealth Amulets

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Feng shui coins are ancient Chinese coins with hieroglyphs and a square hole in the middle.

The coins are usually made of bronze. They are used in odd numbers, such as 1, 3, 5, etc. The coins can be used in a wide number of ways – they can be carried as a necklace or bracelet, they can be used to make wealth amulets (wealth vase, money frog, money tree, etc.), and so on. In this article, we talk about wealth amulets that can be purchased or made using Chinese coins.

The easiest and most fashionable wealth amulets that one can have are necklaces and bracelets with coins. You can either purchase a talisman or make it yourself. It's very easy to make. You will need several coins (as many as you wish) and a red ribbon. Simply attach the coins to the ribbon and start wearing it. If you wear a lanyard (such as to carry an ID card for work or school), you can attach the coins to the lanyard. Alternatively, you can hang the amulet in the southeast section of your home – the Wealth and Prosperity zone.

Another way to incorporate the coins is to make a wealth vase. The wealth vase is an extremely potent feng shui amulet that can attract material wellbeing to your home. Typically, it's a white ceramic vase with paintings in blue, with a number of prosperity symbols placed inside. These symbols include: crystals, semiprecious gems, pictures with the symbols of wealth (houses, cars, gold bars), and others. Feng shui coins are one of the most essential ingredients to place into this vase. The vase needs to be placed in the Wealth and Prosperity zone of your bedroom.

You can also purchase wealth symbols that already have the coins incorporated into their design. One great symbol is a three-legged money frog. The frog is typically shown sitting on a pile of coins, holding one or three of them in its mouth. Some frogs come with a slit - you can purchase the coins and the toad individually, and insert the coins in its mouth. This symbol can also have the following design: the toad is sitting on the coins, and the god of wealth Liu Hai sits on top of the frog. According to ancient Chinese legends, Liu Hai conquered the frog and made it serve people.

You can also find wealth talismans with another god of wealth – Hotei, sitting on a pile of coins. Hotei was a happy monk who had an extraordinary ability – wherever he came, people would grow rich. This god of wealth has a large belly and charming smile. It's a real pleasure to have Hotei sitting on feng shui coins in your home.

Finally, the feng shui coins can be used for the making of a money tree. You will need the following components: Chinese coins with holes, wire, play-dough, and a flower pot. The coins need to be placed on the wire in the form of tree branches. The branches need to be made to look like a tree. The tree is placed into the flower pot and secured with play-dough.

The most important aspect to remember is: the more time and creativity you place into the making of your wealth symbol, the more potent it will be.

A good feng shui interior design is essential for increasing the wellbeing and happiness in any home.

This ancient Chinese notion can help us in designing and decorating each part of our premises, including the living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and even the yard. In this article, we offer some easy tips for improving indoor rooms.

Bedroom feng shui interior design: the bedroom is the place where most of us spend over eight hours a day, which is a large enough period of time to consider improving this room particularly. Specialists advise using calming and relaxing shades in this room, such as warm and light pastels. It's also advised to have furniture with rounded corners, which will help to smooth everything out. You may want to use a red object in the bedroom to promote love between you and your partner.

Living room feng shui interior design: The living room is the place where the whole family gathers together to chat or have some family fun. This room needs to have the freest possible flow of good Qi energy. Here's how you can achieve it: add light to any dark corners (lamps, mirrors) and free up space by removing any unnecessary furnishing items. For the same purpose, try to arrange the seating in a semicircle or octagon, and move the seating that may be blocking the windows. Make sure that the chairs and sofas make it possible for those sitting on them to see the living room door.

Kitchen feng shui interior design: the kitchen is another popular place to be. Here, you may also want to use light colors, but cooler than in the bedroom, such as light blue and light green. Using utensils and appliances made of stainless steel can also add to the beneficial flow of energy. If you have an overabundance of any element in the kitchen (wood, metal), try to add other elements to balance the room. If you have too much wood, you can add metal accessories. If you have too much metal, you can add a plant that will constitute wood.

Bathroom: The bathroom is the place that cleanses us and our homes from negative energy. The entire sewer system serves to cleanse us and our homes, both on the physical and the subtle energy level. It is advised to have a very bright and pleasant lighting in the bathroom, in order to help it get rid of the bad energy. You can also consider installing a small window in here, to help natural light penetrate into the room.

Try to liven up the bathroom with attractive objects, such as plants, vibrant sponges, and soft mats. You may also want to consider starting to use aromatic oils in here. You can either have a special bottle that's always opened, or simply add a few drops of essential oil into the bath water each time you take a bath.

Listen to your intuition and do some minor changes, and you will soon feel the positive energies starting to flow freer in your entire home, improving your life as a whole.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Don't let the name fool you: home alarm systems aren't just for the house. These alarms are for anywhere that would benefit from a little extra protection. Door and window alarms can be used to improve security in many different kinds of places in addition to houses. Consider the following four spaces that would benefit from the installation of door and window alarms:

Businesses. Though large chain stores employ high-tech security monitoring systems and may have security officers on-site, smaller businesses may benefit from the simple security alarms sold for home use. Businesses without such security measures easily become the target of thieves looking for something valuable to steal. Whether you are trying to protect a retail store or an office, don't overlook the value of installing alarms. Thieves target a surprising array of businesses: not just those with valuable inventory, such as jewelry or electronics stores, but even seemingly safe places like doctors' offices, where the patient information can be sold to identity thieves. No matter what kind of business you run, take adequate steps to protect it.

Apartments. Far too many apartment-dwellers assume that they can't benefit from home security alarms because they'll be moving in a few months or years. Others think that living in close proximity to many other people will protect them from harm. Neither of these is true. A criminal won't avoid apartments just because they are close to other people; studies have shown that most neighbors won't come to your aid after hearing a single window breaking. Plus, you never know what kinds of unsavory characters your neighbors might invite over, giving you good reason to protect your property. Wireless door and window alarms can be taken with you when you move, making them an ideal choice in this situation.

Dorm rooms. Like apartment-dwellers, many college students assume that living near a lot of people will protect them. Many even leave the door to their dorm room unlocked. Opportunistic thieves know that most dorm rooms contain laptops, gaming systems, iPods, cell phones, cash, and any number of other valuables. Even if access is restricted to the dorm building itself, often the perpetrators of such crimes are other students. If you have a son or daughter living on the campus of a university, evaluate their safety and look into security measures such as window and door alarms to give you peace of mind and keep your child safe.

Finally, the obvious: installing alarms on the doors and windows of your house. Not only is this where your family sleeps at night, but criminals know that many homes contain jewelry, HDTVs, gaming consoles, and plenty of other valuable possessions. Whether they are only after your belongings, or things turn violent once they are inside, why take the risk? Door and window alarms on every entrance, even those around the back of the home and on the second story, will go a long ways towards making sure this never happens to you and your loved ones.

September is the Deadliest Month of the Year for Fork Lift Accidents

Sometimes, the strangest patterns can emerge from life. A leading firm of personal injury compensation lawyers have been doing the numbers and have concluded that September is one of the deadliest months for those working with fork lift trucks as fork lift accidents are at their highest at this time of year. Their report has resulted in a warning being issued for everyone involved with fork lift trucks highlighting the dangers associated with this type of equipment, particularly during that first month back after the summer holidays.

Statistically, September is the 'deadliest' month for fork lift truck accidents, accounting for a considerable percentage of the accidents at work logged during this month. Most of these accidents occur when fork lift drivers or pedestrians in warehouses are distracted or simply assume that they have been seen by the other party. Most of these accidents are entirely avoidable and fork lift accidents often constitute legitimate grounds for a compensation claim for an accident at work. In respect of those that happen because of the failure of the employer to implement a safe working system where heavy machinery such as fork lifts are being used, or because of the negligence of a colleague, the injured party has a strong claim for personal injury compensation against the employer. The bottom line is that it is the employer, not the fork lift driver, who is responsible for providing a safe working environment, both for all employees and for any visitors to the site. They are ultimately responsible for the actions of their workforce.

Around 400 workers are seriously injured by fork lift accidents every year, with the most serious accidents resulting in around 10 fatalities annually. Many more suffer less serious injury but still have to take time off work to recover and receive treatment for their injuries. One of the most common injuries is crushing, which can have devastating consequences, even if the fork lift is travelling relatively slowly.

The consequences of a fork lift accident can result in the injured party having to take considerable time off work to recover from their injuries and this can obviously affect their ability to earn a wage, meet household bills and carry on a 'normal' life. More serious injuries can lead to a lifetime of intensive care and the loss of the ability to earn a living.

Health and Safety officials have long promoted the importance of vigilance when using heavy machinery in the workplace and are concerned at the number of accidents that still happen in the workplace every day. There has been a degree of success in their campaign to raise awareness about accidents at work, but there still seems to be a bit of a blasé attitude when it comes to fork lift trucks. The opinion amongst many employers is that once the driver has his certificate, it is then his responsibility to drive the truck in a manner that will not cause injury or harm to other people. But the reality of everyday life in a busy warehouse puts pressure on drivers to operate their fork lifts in a less than safe manner to 'get the job done'. In a confined space like a warehouse, there's very little room for mistakes, particularly if the machine you're operating is heavy, fast and fitted with large prongs at the front. Any accident involving a fork lift is potentially life-threatening and if employers do not want to see more claims brought against them for accidents in the workplace, perhaps it is time to clamp down on the cavalier attitude that many drivers have towards safety. A hard hat is not going to protect you against a one ton machine travelling at 15mph loaded with crates.

Injury claims specialists believe that it is going to be a long time before accidents in the workplace are eradicated, if ever. Fortunately, workers injured by fork lift trucks or any other preventable situation in a working environment have some means of redress through injury compensation. But this does not excuse poor duty of care levels and a 'get the job done at all costs' attitude in an environment where dangerous machinery is operating. A shift in thinking has to take place, along with stricter enforcement on health and safety standards by the authorities. Perhaps then September will cease to be such a 'deadly month' for injuries at work.

Feng shui wedding tips can help newlyweds attract more love into their relationship.

There are a number of symbols and aromas, which can be used either in the southwest part of any room (the area of Love and Marriage), or in the bedroom of the newlyweds.

Let's discuss the symbols first. The most important aspect is that any symbol that you use, needs to be in a pair. It can be anything: a pair of beautiful pillows, candleholders with candles, dolphin figurines, crystal eggs, etc. For love, classic feng shui typically uses a pair of mandarin ducks - orange ducks made of pottery, red jasper or other "earthly" materials. You can also use a pair of cranes. Both of these bird species represent undying love and faithfulness in the couple.

Another traditional love charm is a figurine of the Moon Fairy, who is considered the goddess of happiness, love and joy. You can also use ceramic, porcelain or crystal vases with flowers in them, which symbolize love, tenderness and passion.

A great talisman for enhancing romantic luck is "double luck". It can be placed in the south-western sector of the house or put under the bed. Another good charm is the "double luck knot" - a knot made in a special way. Its "infinite" thread symbolizes an infinite luck.

The sector of Love and Marriage is "ruled" by the earth element. Therefore, feng shui wedding advice is to boost it using the "earth" or "fire" charms – different types of stones. You can make attractive compositions using semi-precious stones or crystals. Chinese feng shui schools give preference to jade eggs, crystal balls and statuettes made of stone. You can cleanse the stones using salt water or incense, prior to using them.

Colors that activate the sector of marriage are the shades of pink, yellow and brown (terra cotta, ocher, beige, and sand). You can hang red Chinese lanterns in the bedroom. Red or pink hearts (paired) are one of the most effective love charms; hearts of rose quartz are considered the best. Paintings of happy couples can be very good also. You can also hang wind chimes with pendants in the form of hearts - they will add romance to your interior.

If you choose to place images of hieroglyphs, the most appropriate would be "beauty" - a symbol of harmony indoors, and "love" - a symbol of happiness in personal relationships.

Following is a list of feng shui wedding scents that help to attract love and sympathy. The main point it to choose the scents that please both, you and your partner.

Orange – creates the atmosphere of serenity, ease, and confidence. Bergamot – relieves tension and enhances erotic appeal. Clove – gives confidence in success. Geranium – increases sexual appeal. Grapefruit – boosts emotional bond. Jasmine – helps shy people overcome their shyness. Ylang-Ylang – enhances intuition, frees, and awakens the senses. Ginger – enhances determination. Mandarin – helps achieve harmony. Juniper – creates a sense of novelty. Neroli – boosts sexuality and sensuality. Patchouli – awakens the primordial energy of the chakras and enhances sexuality. Rosemary – enriches feelings.

Feng shui career tips can help you increase your personal productivity.

If you manage an office, you can use these tips to increase the overall productivity of your staff. There are a number of factors that can hinder the career growth of a person, as well as hinder the development of the entire company. The ancient Chinese notion feng shui is here to help eliminate the potential hindering factors, and increase the beneficial aspects.

Furniture positioning: The main feng shui career tip is the proper positioning of the desks. Some types of positioning are very disadvantageous, while others on the contrary, are extremely beneficial. A bad desk positioning includes: when a person's back is to a window or door, a desk crammed into a corner, a desk facing another desk, or a desk next to the entrance door.

Sitting with the back to a door or window can make one feel "unsafe", and is best avoided. If there's no way to move the furniture, consider placing a mirror on the table. Sitting crammed in a corner will not allow the positive energy to circulate around the person's desk. Facing another person may hinder concentration and cause the energy of both people to dissipate. Sitting next to the entrance door can be very agitating due to the constant annoyance of a passerby.

The best way is to sit with your back to the wall, facing the entrance door, but being a sufficient distance from it. This way, you feel protected by the wall, you see those in the doorway, and you are removed from having to answer questions by a passerby.

Clutter: The feng shui career advice states that clutter and dirt are to be avoided. The clutter and dirt prevent the free circulation of positive energy, and cause the negative energy to concentrate and stagnate instead. If at all possible, try to clean the office. Pay attention to the cabinets and shelves, and keep them free of unneeded documentation. If there are any unused objects or equipment in the office, they are best moved to storage rooms. Try to wash the curtains, keep all surfaces dusted, and the floors clean.

Lighting: Most modern buildings have fluorescent lighting. This type of lighting is bad for the overall health (it can cause problems with the eyes and blood pressure; it can cause dermatitis; it can bring out certain nervous conditions like bipolar disorder or panic attacks). Additionally, it can hinder the perception and concentration of the worker. Many people complain about the flickering and humming of such lamps, as well as they may complain about headaches. All in all, this type of lighting can prevent them from being efficient at work. If possible, replace these lamps with regular "Edison lamps." Consider adding calming decorative floor or wall lamps in pleasant colors. Another good feng shui career tip - whenever possible, keep the window curtains open.

Materials: Some of the best materials to use in the office are wood, glass, and metal. It's advised to use wood the most, followed by metal and glass. Synthetics (plastic, etc.) can also be used, but in moderation. It's best to use natural materials (cotton, etc.) for the furniture upholstery also.

The greedy dragon of ambition is an extremely powerful ancient Chinese symbol, which is believed to be capable of helping a person obtain anything that they want.

This symbol can bring you luck, success, wealth, and prosperity. It will promote career and guard against abusive partners, competitors and evil people. Living inside the house, it will bring money into it. All in all, it will help you satisfy your wildest ambitions.

The Chinese figurines and images typically portray the dragon playing with a pearl. Alternatively, it can stranglehold the pearl with its strong claws. The tradition of displaying the dragon with a pearl evolved from folk Chinese games with lanterns and the wish for happiness and wealth. The pearl can also represent the celestial pearl or the mother-earth.

In China, the dragon is one of the most revered mythical animals. Its description speaks volumes - according to legend, it has a "snake body, frog belly, deer antlers, camel head, rabbit eyes, bull ears, carp scales, eagle claws, and tiger tail and paws." The image of this mystical creature has remained unchanged for over four thousand years.

The dragon was perceived as a kind, gracious, and merciful creature endowed with mystical powers – it could glide through the skies, oceans, rivers, mist and rain. Their utmost quality was the ability to command the elements - rain, wind, and floods. Back then, the harvest directly depended on weather conditions; hence these mystical creatures were a symbol of luck and destiny.

In ancient China, the Han Dynasty emperors often referred to themselves as "a legitimate son of the celestial Dragon"; hence is the connection of these creatures with strength and power.

In feng shui, the greedy dragon of ambition is one of the strongest symbols of good luck. Its extraordinary power can increase luck manifold. Its image can protect homes from evil spirits. It is also believed to be capable of giving immortality to humans.

These powerful creatures see the truth beyond time and space. They promote chiefs and bring success in business. Each person has their own dragon that cares for them. This mystic creature brings the spirit of change. It is also a symbol of vigilance and security, which brings together all the scaly creatures of the universe.

The dragon is traditionally associated with the east, so its image in the eastern part of the house or office will bring good luck. The figurine can be placed on a table or to the left of an entrance door (facing east). You can place it in the living room to promote the active Yan energy. The talisman should be put on a stand or elevated.

The figurine or image should not be taller than a person, because then it will manipulate them rather than patronize them. The greedy dragon of ambition should not be too big and fierce.

To activate the talisman, you need to "open" its eyes using a simple ceremony. Between 7 and 9 in the morning, put points on its eyes with a brush using black ink. Let the greedy dragon of ambition become the harbinger of good changes in your life.

The feng shui bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the house.

The bedroom is the place where you sleep, and it's also a love nest. This nest should be warm, cozy and peaceful, or else love may not want to live there. In this article, we give some tips to improve the feel of anyone's bedroom.

It's good if the bedroom is far from the entrance hall and kitchen, or at least well isolated from these. You need to protect the bedroom from the slamming of doors, music in other rooms, the noise in the kitchen, and the sound of water in the bathroom.

If your bedroom is both, a living room and dining room (eg studio apartment), be sure to hide the bed from view. You can fence off the bed or place something bright and distracting next to the bed, for example, a beautiful vase. This simple measure could be beneficial for your personal life.

During the day, try to attract more Qi into the feng shui bedroom. Push the curtains apart and let the sunlight in. If possible, open the windows also. Keep in mind that the sunlight should not fall directly on the bed, as the sun's rays can activate the bed and make it difficult to sleep on.

A bed with two adjoining mattresses will create a symbolic separation of the spouses, which is best avoided. For this reason, it's best to avoid sleeping on two beds pushed together.

It's advisable not to sleep on round beds or water beds (very unstable). The best beds are stable and strong ones.

The back of the bed, too, has some significance. The copper and arched backs aren't the best (semicircle implies incompleteness). The best are rectangular backs. In general, the bed simply has to have a solid back.

One of the most important factors is the location of the bed. Lying on the bed, you should see the bedroom door diagonally, but not with your feet facing the door. The bed should not be placed under bare ceiling beams, as it can be fraught with problems. The beams that are in parallel to the bed can cause problems in relationships between spouses. It's best to hide the beams by a suspended ceiling, or move the bed. If you do not have such opportunities, consider attaching bamboo sticks tied with red thread to the beam.

A big lamp on the ceiling can symbolically divide the bed (and a sleeping couple) in two, so it's best to move the bed in this case.

The bed should not stand in the middle of the room, because it creates instability. Ideally, the bed should be in contact with the wall (with its back), to have support. A bed that stands sideways to the wall can mean a bachelor life. If you want a life partner, your bed should provide a convenient approach for you.

The bed linen should not have images of animals of prey (danger) or cars (anxiety). The linen should not be blue, black or red.

If you want to sleep well, remove everything except the bed and love charms from the feng shui bedroom. Make your bed attractive, fresh and fragrant.

Ba Chai (Eight Mansions, 8 Houses) is a subtype of the Compass school of feng shui. Other schools include: the Landscape school (Ti Li), School of Bagua, and South school. True masters use the best principles of each school. In this article, we will discuss the Compass School and its famous subtype Ba Chai.

The Compass school studies the cardinal directions and time, using the complex Chinese Luo Pan Compass and mathematical formulas based on Lo Shu – the magic square.

The Ba Chai (8 Mansions / Houses) can be used in three different ways. The first way is to calculate your personal Kua number (based on your date of birth) and learn about the good and bad cardinal directions for you. The second way is to learn about the good and bad cardinal directions of your home, based on the 8 types of homes with varying energy distribution. The third way is learning both, your personal Kua number and that of your home, and comparing them to each other.

Many people choose to use the simplest approach – determine the type of their home and learn about its good and bad sectors, regardless of their personal Kua. We will discuss this method below.

All homes fall into numerous types based on primary and secondary cardinal directions. In total, there are 8 main types of homes based on their facade direction. The direction of the facade usually coincides with that of the main entrance. Having determined the direction of your home, you can find out which of its sectors are good and bad for people, using special tables.

There are also some common suggestions for all homes. For instance, having water in front of a home is typically considered to be good, as it reinforces the Shen Chi – the sector of continuous improvement and growth responsible for the success of the occupants. However, it's important to keep in mind that any home will have its individual location of the good and bad sectors.

Good sectors are Fu Wei, Tien Yi, Nien Yen, and Shen Chi; they need to be strengthened. Bad sectors are Chueh Ming (big loss), Lui Shar (six deaths), Wu Kwei (five ghosts), and Ho Hai; they need to be suppressed. It's good if a bathroom, kitchen or pantry is located in a bad sector, as it will weaken its bad energy. As we mentioned above, the good and bad sectors vary depending on the type of your home. Therefore, you need to use special tables to determine these for your home in particular.

Varying schools of Feng Shui continue to struggle with each other and provoke controversy, but it's not an obstacle to study this powerful teaching. Different points of view are always enriching to a notion, and help to prevent it from becoming stagnant. Any science evolves and tries to adapt to the lifestyles of different generations. The core values of feng shui, however, are always the same. They are the search for harmony and balance of the positive energy Sheng Qi, and simultaneous elimination of the negative energy Sha Qi. Simply use your intuition and common sense, and you may soon learn to choose good places quite intuitively.

Article Title: Getting Your Neighborhood Security Organized

When it comes to home security, many people overlook the surrounding neighborhood. In fact, keeping your home safe does require community environment. Even if you don't ever speak with your neighbors – or even get along with them – their actions impact your safety. According to the National Sheriff's Association, your neighbors – not the police – will be the first responders to nearly 80 percent of the crimes happening in a neighborhood.

Forming a neighborhood watch as a formal group tasked at stopping neighborhood crime is a good way to make sure you and the neighbors are all on the same page regarding security. This is a good way to get to know those around you if you don't already. Neighborhood watch meetings held regularly help those on your street understand the potential for crime and what to do about it. At the meetings, discuss various safety issues with your neighbors. You can also invite local law enforcement to speak at the meeting.

Your neighborhood is only as safe as the weakest link. If there are many homes on your block that look unprotected, along with lots of dark spots where a criminal could hide, that could play a role in drawing crime into your community. Even if your home is well protected, your security will suffer by being surrounded by less well protected homes. Volunteer to clean up the local park or help an elderly neighbor install outdoor lighting and other security measures. Doing so can improve the security of the whole neighborhood.

Be aware of neighbors who might need more assistance in an emergency situation. This includes people who live alone or are mobility impaired. If an emergency is happening, make sure that someone knows that these people might need some extra help. On the other hand, those who are elderly or disabled are more likely to be home during the day, while others are at work, and can provide help watching the neighborhood.

What can you do as an individual to keep your neighborhood safe? Keep your eyes open, and alert the authorities if you think a crime may be in progress. Report any suspicious behaviors and be aware of potential danger spots in your community. Check the national sex offender registry to see if there are any in your area and be aware of their locations.

Even if you live in a safe area, be vigilant about the safety of your children. Many kids have free run of the neighborhood, but this is not always safe, especially if you don't know those living around you. Even if you enjoyed this freedom as a child, the world has changed, and it may no longer be safe to let your children roam. Always know where your children are. Get them a cell phone so that they can call home, and get to know their friends and the parents. Set limits to where your children can go. If you think your kids might need to protect themselves from suspicious people, get them a personal alarm so that they can alert adults to a potentially dangerous situation.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Using feng shui for career typically refers to organizing your workspace the proper way. A good workplace is the key to improved work quality and emotional balance. Let's review how to organize your work space so that it assists your career, rather than hinder it.

One of the most important factors to consider is the spatial position of your desk. Some positions are best avoided, or need to be improved if there's no way to move the desk.

According to feng shui for career, sitting with your back to the entrance door is best avoided, as it may allow your colleagues to work around you for promotion. If there is no other option, put a mirror on your table to see those behind you.

Sitting with your back to the window is also a disadvantage, as it may make you feel "unsafe". For gaining a sense of safety, consider placing a large object at the window, such as a plant or bookshelves.

It's best not to have your desk crammed into a corner or squeezed between cabinets. Try to move it so that you can access your desk from the front and back. In Feng Shui, an open space symbolizes prospects.

Try not to sit facing a colleague either, as it may cause your energy to start dissipating.

In accordance with feng shui for career, sitting right next to the entrance door is the worst. No matter what job position you have, the passer-by will take you for someone they can ask for information. The hustle of people walking by and distracting you may become very tiring. Consider changing the location of your desk.

It's acceptable to face a wall. However, try to hang a picture of a wide lake or valley on the wall in front of you to expand your visual perspective. You can also hang a picture of a flock of birds or a plane to increase your ambition. You can also hang an image of mountains - in feng shui, mountains symbolize assistance and rise.

According to feng shui for career, the best way is to sit with your back to the wall, and face the entrance door diagonally. Try to make your desk visible from the door, and not blocked by filing cabinets or anything else.

If there are many shelves with piles of documents and reference books where you work, try to review these and dispose of the obsolete ones. Those that are used seldom can be moved to a storage room. Cluttered and clogged cabinets and shelves prevent something new from coming in and limit your professional growth. Keep your workplace clean and tidy to circulate the positive Qi energy. Rooms with musty air, dirty windows, disordered furniture, and piles of documents will create bad Feng Shui.

Good lighting is another great way to attract positive energy. It's good to have additional lighting on your desktop, such as a desk lamp. The light source must be located on the left (for right-handers). If you work on a computer, aim the light directly at your keyboard. Bright sunlight may interfere with your work, so consider using blinds or curtains to dim it. However, try not to switch to artificial lighting altogether.

If there are no windows in your room, be sure to have a photo of natural landscape on the wall, or have a small aquarium, flowers, or plants in the room.

The Eight Immortals (Ba xian) are eight saints of the Taoist pantheon of Gods, who are painted in many temples, public places, and restaurants. They are typically depicted crossing the sea on a boat. Listed below are the 8 Immortals.

Lu Dongbin: A famous Taoist patriarch, a legendary historical figure, and the patron of literature and hairdressers. He is depicted with a magical sword that disperses evil. Lu Dongbin is often considered the chief of the immortals (while the true chief is Zhongli Quan).

Li Tieguai: A doctor and scientist, defender of the sickly, and the patron of magicians and astrologers. He is depicted with a magic calabash with medicine, and an iron stick. He looks like a one-legged beggar with a dirty face, unkempt beard, and a gold hoop on his head. The Jade Emperor gave him immortality for his many noble deeds.

Zhongli Quan: The patron of soldiers. He is depicted with a magical fan (that can raise the dead) and the elixir of immortality. He looks like a tall man with curly hair, whose entire body is tattooed. He is one of the oldest of the Eight Immortals, who is considered their chief. He was a general during the Han Dynasty. He was taught Taoist alchemy, martial arts, and healing.

Han Xiang Zi: He is a philosopher. He is portrayed as a handsome and cheerful young man who plays the magic flute, which makes everything bloom. He was given feminine traits for his beauty. He is considered the patron of musicians. He left his job as an official in the government, and went to seek the truth in Tao. Once he demonstrated the power of Tao by drinking a lot of wine and not getting drunk. He knew magic - he could make wine from water and grow flowers in the winter.

Cao Guojiu: Known as a representative of the ruling Song Dynasty. He is depicted in a red uniform, with a hat of a high-ranking official, and with a jade tablet that purifies all around and gives the right to enter the palace. Sometimes he is painted with rattles in his hands. He is the patron of actors and mimes.

Zhang Guo Lao: A magician. He is painted sitting backwards on a magic mule, with bamboo rattles in his hands. He has a long white beard. He is the patron of the elderly, and a perfect teacher/master. According to legend, he is an incarnation of a white bat. Zhang Guo Lao is associated with a real person who lived during the Tang Dynasty.

Lan Caihe: A woman or man (sometimes considered a hermaphrodite) with a bamboo basket of flowers that express immortality (chrysanthemum). He/she is the patron of gardeners. Lan Caihe is the most extravagant character of the Eight Immortals, a kind of holy fool. He/she is always singing, writing poetry, drinking wine, and always cheerful. Legend has it that he/she once got all the immortals drunk.

He Xiangu: A woman with a lotus flower or a basket of flowers, and a flute. She is the patroness of hearth. At fifteen, He Xiangu met Lu Dongbin, who started to court her, actually wanting to bring her into the Tao. Having received teachings from him, she became able to fly through the mountains and gather wild fruit, earning a living for her and her mother. Lu Dongbin gave her a magic peach from the island of the Immortals, and taught her how to control the energies using the feminine Yin.

In ancient times Tsai Shen Yeh was the god of wealth in China.

Eventually, this god was divided into a group of gods. Apparently, the root cause for the separation was the division of rich Chinese officials into two groups - military and civilian. So, Tsai Shen Yeh was also divided into two groups. Sometimes for security, people would worship both at once: a military commander and civil dignitary.

One of the most revered military gods of wealth was Guan Yu. Another one was Guo Ziyi - a famed military leader and nobleman. According to legend, the goddess Zhi Nu foretold his glorious fate, which was long life and prosperity as a heavenly spirit. Zhi Nu is the "heavenly weaver" who weaved the night sky; she is the prophetess and patroness of lovers.

Ever since she foretold his fate, Guo Ziyi began to receive honors and rank, and became a very successful warrior. His sons and in-laws also obtained high ranks, and one of his sons even married a princess.

The Chinese also venerated Zhao Gong-min as a military and civilian god of wealth. He was offered sacrifices by the Chinese on an altar placed on the north terraces of homes.

The main civil god of wealth was Bigan. This god had a real prototype - an honest and noble sage who tried to influence a petty and cruel ruler. Despite the threat of the death penalty, Bigan continued to defend his beliefs. Then the infuriated ruler said: "I heard that the heart of a sage has seven openings. I want to make sure!" He ordered that Bigan's chest be split and that his heart be removed. Since then, this martyr started to be revered by the Chinese for his faithfulness and steadfast beliefs.

It's hard to say how Bigan became a god of wealth. He was very popular among the people. His name was sworn to when buying goods as a promise to pay, which could have given birth to the belief that this person's spirit will help increase honest wealth.

Any Tsai Shen Yeh (god of wealth) would typically have a wife, Tsai-mu ("Mother of wealth") and be followed by the god of coins – a man called Liu Hai. Liu Hai was an official, who did not become rich, and led a modest and dignified life. According to legend, he miraculously eliminated greed - he lowered his belt with a gold coin into a well where a "greed-toad" lived. The toad grabbed the coin with its mouth, and Liu Hai pulled it out, as the frog could not open its greedy mouth. Therefore, the god of coins was sometimes depicted standing on a toad.

The gods of wealth were also represented as dragons made of coins, as coin-spitting dragons, horses that bring treasures, and wonder trees that grow coins - just shake the tree, and the coins will fall like autumn leaves.

If you wish to bring wealth to your own home, you can obtain an image of Tsai Shen Yeh (gods of wealth), and place it in the Health and Family zone, which lies on the east side of your home or any of its rooms.

Feng shui fish are a very popular amulet. The word "fish" and the word "happiness" sound the same in Chinese. The Chinese often give living fish for the New Year to bring happiness in the coming year.

Fish also drive away misfortune, as it's one of the good signs in the Buddha's footprint. The image of a pair of fish is often embroidered on curtains, cushions, linen, and clothes. This amulet has a strong protective energy. In Thailand, children often wear these talismans on their necks (these charms are usually made of gold and precious stones).

The feng shui fish also have a strong reproductive function, so they symbolize fertility. These aquatic creatures swim happily in the water, and thus are a symbol of happiness and harmony in a couple.

The most popular species in feng shui are carp (koi), goldfish, and arowana. The amulets are available as figurines, paintings, scrolls, and pendants.

Goldfish can often be seen in ponds and aquariums, as they bring good energy. Goldfish represent double joy, because the Chinese word "goldfish" consists of two hieroglyphs - "gold" and "happiness". Goldfish symbolizes success in financial affairs, and it is well suited for the zone of wealth.

Carp is a symbol of good luck and military glory. The legend says that the carp became known for its prowess, when it swam against the tide to reach the dragon gate and became a dragon. Thus, it became a symbol of perseverance and tenacity. One of the popular paintings today is the painting "Carps passing through the gates of the dragon." The hieroglyph "carp" sounds like the word "business" in Chinese, so it will help achieve success in business. A carp shown in a pair will bring love.

Arowana is a rare fish that brings financial well-being; it's considered a particularly strong symbol of wealth. It should be pink, silver or gold. As a symbol of prosperity, you can hang an image of a golden arowana in the corner of wealth.

Live fish are also a sign of abundance, and that's why so many people use feng shui aquariums. A feng shui fish aquarium can not only decorate your home, but also help you achieve prosperity and wealth. If you decide to start an aquarium, remember several important rules. When buying an aquarium, give preference to round or rectangular shapes. Put the aquarium in the east or southeast part of the living room or office. It's best not to put the aquarium in the bedroom or kitchen.

It's best to have an odd number of feng shui fish in the aquarium. The most favorable number is 9, such as 8 golden ones for prosperity and 1 black one for protection. The red is a solar Yan, and black is the lunar Yin. Together, they symbolize the unity and completeness of the universe.

It's best to avoid buying the species with sharp fins. If you decide to purchase arowana, note that this tropical specie is very sensitive to changes in water temperature and other conditions. Moreover, arowana will not live in the same tank with other species - it will eat them.

To attract wealth, you can activate your tank with wealth symbols, such as a money toad or ship with coins next to the aquarium. You can also hang Chinese coins on a red ribbon.

All you have to do to keep your family safe from a fire, break-in, or other emergency is to buy the right security devices and emergency supplies, right? While this is a crucial first step, what happens if you try to put out a kitchen fire, only to find that your fire extinguisher sputters because it's years past its expiration date? Most families are pretty good about buying the necessary security and safety devices when they first move into a home, but forget to keep them updated. Here are a few things that you should be maintaining on at least a yearly basis to keep your family safe:

    1) Replace your smoke alarm batteries. Even if the batteries haven't yet died, change them out every 6 months to a year. Do it when you change your clocks for daylight savings time, twice per year, so that you don't overlook this crucial step. If in doubt, check the batteries by pressing the 'test' button to make sure the alarm will sound.

    2) Check your fire extinguisher pressure. Far too many families put a fire extinguisher in their kitchen and garage, and then forget about it completely. Fire extinguishers decrease in pressure over the years, so make sure that the extinguisher is still working properly. After all, this is not something you want to discover as your kitchen goes up in flames!

    3) Update your first aid kit. Make sure that you haven't removed anything throughout the year, and that none of the medications contained in the kit have passed their expiration date. Don't forget to add any daily medications or other specialty first aid items that you may need.

    4) Likewise, check your emergency kit. Make sure it contains everything your family needs – including a change of clothes, all necessary medications, and enough food and water to last several days – and that nothing has been damaged or expired throughout the year.

    5) Has your pepper spray expired? If you carry pepper spray, did you even know it had an expiration date? Most canisters are marked with a date, and have a lifespan of about five years. Past that time, the pepper spray may still work, but it may not spray out of the can as forcefully as before. If in doubt, replace the canister. After all, what could be worse than being confronted by an attacker, pulling out your pepper spray to fight back, and having nothing happen when you press the button?

    6) Do you know how to use all of these devices? Now is a great time to remind yourself of how, exactly, you use your stun gun, your fire extinguisher, or the fire escape ladder in your bedroom. Simply having these devices around isn't enough to protect you – you must keep them updated so that they will work as intended, and you must know how to use them.

Taking the time to check or replace these critical devices will keep you and your family safe. These steps only take a few minutes, and if you ever find yourself in an emergency situation, you'll be glad you did.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

The quick answer is yes: no matter who you are, you should be concerned about the possibility that someone is stalking you. Stalkers can pose a threat to any individual, though if you watch the news you might think that they only target young, single women. If you are concerned that someone may be stalking you, you have every reason to be concerned. Whether they are after a romantic relationship, are seeking revenge, or are gathering information for a burglary or another crime, if you feel like you are being stalked always take it seriously.

Some indications of stalking behavior include: persistent and/or threatening phone calls, repeated unwanted gifts, constant emails or letters and possibly waiting for you outside your place of work. Stalkers may feel that they have some sort of "connection" or relationship with you, which makes it difficult for them to realize you feel threatened by their attention. Stalkers may be prone to violence towards you, your friends and family, and/or towards themselves.

If you do seem to have picked up a stalker, always take it seriously, no matter how harmless they seem. You never know what they have planned for you. Stalkers often do not realize that their behavior is inappropriate, and it is likely to escalate until you do something about it.

As a general rule, stalkers aren't inclined to take "no" as an answer. Simply telling a stalker to leave you alone or stop bothering you is probably not going to work. What starts out looking like simple coincidence can quickly turn into a habit, and that habit can turn into an obsession. Many stalkers possess obsessive personality traits, which may be the reason that they fixate on one individual.

If you are concerned that you are being stalked notify authorities, friends and family. Alert your coworkers to the situation and ask a security guard to walk you to your car whenever possible. Alter your daily routine and the routes you drive to work. In extreme cases you may need to change your email and phone number, move and change jobs. The best way to protect yourself from a stalker is to seek the help of the authorities, friends and family. Avoid publishing too much personal information on social websites like MySpace or Facebook – these details may seem harmless, but they can feed a stalker far too much information about your activities.

No matter how much assistance you're getting from the police, your family, and your friends, always be prepared to deal with the stalker yourself. No matter how hard you attempt to avoid them, it is possible that you will run into them someday. The stalker may also be gathering information to make a violent advance, whether a sexual assault or a home invasion and robbery. If this does happen, be prepared to fight back – use a stun gun, pepper spray, or another self defense device to escape your stalker's grasp. And of course, call the police as soon as possible to finally put an end to this threat.

A day on the water can be a lot of fun, especially during hot summer days, but it's important that you keep yourself, your family and your friends safe. Whether you're playing in a backyard pool or on the open water of a lake or ocean, here are the top five water safety tips to keep in mind:

    1) Learn to Swim! Even if you aren't planning on being an Olympic swimmer, knowing how to swim is one of the first steps towards staying safe on the water. The more comfortable you are in the water, the more comfortable you'll be around water. Regardless of whether or not you intend to do any swimming, knowing how to swim can keep you safe in the event that you end up in the water. Kids should take swimming classes from a young age, even if your family doesn't live near any bodies of water. You can contact your local swimming pool or the Red Cross for information on swimming classes.

    2) Know Where You're Swimming. If you're swimming outdoors in a pond, lake, river, or ocean, you should know what you're getting yourself into. Some natural bodies of water may contain bacteria or pollutants that may be harmful. Others are home to wildlife, from sharks to leaches, that may ruin your fun. Know the currents – an undertow or strong river current can be a dangerous even for experienced swimmers. Always be aware of the depth of the water. Diving into shallow water creates a risk of physical injury.

    3) Use Safety Devices. For younger and more inexperienced swimmers, life vests, water wings and other flotation devices can add safety and security to any time spent on or near the water. If you are boating make sure that you have enough flotation devices for everyone – both adults and children – who are on the boat. The US Coast Guard has specific requirements for flotation devices. Think you're free from the need for safety devices because you're in a pool? Think again! Lifeguard rings and flotation devices are also essential for those with a backyard pool. So are swimming pool alarms, which alert you to anyone who's jumped or fallen into the pool.

    4) Avoid Alcohol. In the US, the legal blood alcohol content for any person operating a boat is the same as operating a car – and for good reason. If you're going to be on the water (either boating or swimming) try to resist the temptation to drink. Alcohol impairs judgment and coordination and may make you unable to deal with emergency situations.

    5) Learn Basic First Aid. This is a good general rule of thumb for almost any situation. Regardless of where you are, if you're near water, knowing CPR may come in handy. Likewise, you should know how to treat shock, dehydration and hypothermia. If someone takes an unintentional plunge into cold water, knowing what to do could end up saving their life. If you are around water – or anywhere outdoors – having a basic first aid kit, to treat cuts and scrapes, insect bites, and more serious injuries is essential to keeping your family and friends safe this summer.

Article Title: Look Out For These Common Slip Ups When Living in an Apartment

Those who have lived in the same apartment building for years become very comfortable with their surroundings. Though you may feel very safe in your apartment building, is it a false sense of security? Because you're living with lots of other people, there are plenty of opportunities for other residents' home security choices to negatively affect you. Here are some of the home security slip-ups you may be making as an apartment resident:

Treating the common areas of the building as 'safe' areas where you can relax. Once you get comfortable, it's easy to let your guard down, treating the whole building as a safe place when you are only in control of your own apartment. No matter how long you've lived there, the building is still shared space, and you have no idea who could be inside or what their intentions may be. Other residents may be letting people they don't know inside the building, or they could have dangerous intentions themselves. Stay alert in common areas and pay extra attention to people you don't recognize. Do not let your kids play in the playground area of your apartment complex unsupervised; doing so is just like sending them into a public park alone.

Failing to install or use home security alarms. Though you might think that such alarms can't be used in a rented apartment, in fact wireless door and window alarms can be installed almost anywhere, and even taken with you when you move. Motion detectors, glass break sensors, and other devices are critical for home security no matter where you live, , even if you think there's no possibility of a home invasion. Apartment dwellers tend not to spend a lot of time and effort on the security of their apartment, but they should, especially if they plan to be there a while.

Being careless about leaving your doors and windows unlocked. Even if you live on the tenth floor of a secure apartment building, it is not safe to keep your doors and windows unlocked. You never know who's inside the building; your neighbors might be letting dangerous people inside. Do not leave windows or doors facing common areas open or unlocked – doing so is just like leaving open an entry facing the street. In fact, they should not only be locked, but also protected with door and window alarms.

Allowing maintenance workers inside the apartment unsupervised. One of the most convenient thing about apartment living is that maintenance workers will fix anything that breaks, but this can also be one of the most dangerous aspects. Sure, it's easier to just let them do their job while you're at work, but doing so leaves you at risk. Your belongings could be stolen, or the workers could be scoping out your apartment for a later break-in. Make it your policy to be present when anyone is inside your apartment.

Not knowing all of the escape routes from your apartment. Sure, there's the route you use every day, usually without even thinking about it. But what if that were blocked by a fire, structural damage, or an attacker wielding a weapon? Could you get out any other way? Apartments tend to have fewer escapes than houses, but there is usually another way out. You should know about possible fire exits, including back stairways and windows leading to fire escapes. Do you know how to use fire escape ladders? If you live on an apartment only a few stories from the ground, invest in fire ladders, which attach to a window so that you can escape to the ground safely.
