Article Title: Can a Calcium Supplement Help With Bone Density Or Do I Need More?

With the question, "Can a Calcium Supplement help with bone density?", the straightforward answer is definitely, "Yes!". Calcium has a very important role in bone remodelling. Physiologically, bones are dynamic structures that undergo considerable remodelling in response to changes in our lives. This process begins early in life and occurs throughout adult life as well. The bones are remodelled to meet the markedly different stresses placed on them by upright posture. During sedentary periods, compact bone decreases in thickness. In contrast, increasing one's level of activity causes compact bones to thicken, thus helping the bone withstand stresses placed on it during walking, running, standing and the like. On the other hand, spongy bone also undergoes considerable remodelling. Thus, even the internal architecture of the bone changes to meet new stresses.

Generally, when blood calcium levels fall below the normal limit, a hormone known as Parathormone or PTH is released by the parathyroid glands into the bloodstream. PTH stimulates bone cells to digest bone. This activity releases calcium to replenish blood calcium levels. On the other hand, when calcium levels rise, the thyroid gland releases calcitonin which inhibits bone destruction. Calcitonin also stimulates bone cells to deposit excess blood calcium into the bones making the bones denser and stronger. Therefore, if you are taking sufficient and potent calcium supplement to maintain a normal blood calcium level, bone formation will be promoted rather that bone digestion.

The recommended intake for calcium every day is about 210 mg to 900 mg for children and approximately 800 mg to 2000 mg for adults. These recommendations are good for both male and female. The tolerable upper intake level for this mineral is 2500 mg for ages 1 year and onwards. The most common source of calcium in the household is a glass of milk. However, this serving only provides 250 mg of calcium on the average. The highest amount of calcium among its sources is yogurt with 415 mg. Since most adults do not drink 4 glasses of milk or eat 2 servings of yogurt a day to reach at least the minimum recommended daily intake of calcium, calcium supplements may be necessary.

The two main preparations of calcium in supplements are calcium carbonate and calcium citrate. Calcium carbonate is more commonly available and inexpensive. Both the carbonate and citrate forms are similarly well absorbed, but in instances where an individual has reduced levels of stomach acid, calcium citrate is absorbed more easily. Vitamin D increases the absorption rate of this mineral, thus, it is also important to concurrently have Vitamin D supplement. Conversely, caffeine and caffeinated products, alcohol, proteins, and other minerals such as phosphorus, sodium and potassium can significantly increase calcium excretion resulting to decreased absorption. Strict vegetarians who eat no animal products, dairy foods and milk may not gain sufficient calcium needed by the body. Hence, it is highly suggested that vegans must have calcium supplements. Both aluminum and magnesium-based antacids can also increase urinary calcium excretion. Therefore, it is recommended to see your doctor and discuss your health condition and drugs or other supplements taken.

But the original question was is calcium enough, yes calcium is enough but for those who need a jump start in the calcium uptake, adding vitamin D and magnesium or taking a calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D supplement can greatly improve your absorption rate. Keeping your bones healthy is an important step in maintaining a healthy body.

Have you had your calcium today?

If you partied to much the night before and need something now that can cure hangover symptoms, continue reading. If you did not take proper steps before you went out drinking and partying, then you will need to treat the symptoms the next day.

First, get a glass of water and drink it. Do not make the water too cold or hot and drink it slowly or your stomach will expel the liquid and the water will come right back up. Drink as much water as you can to begin hydrating yourself, alcohol is a diuretic and has a drying effect on the human body so drinking lots of water will help it is best if you drink a glass of water for every beer to prevent hangover.

Next, you need some caffeine (coffee) in your system. Caffeine can help headaches, especially if you take it with some OTC pain reliever such as ibuprofen. If coffee is not your drink then have some soda pop can be used for the morning after re-hydration. If you do not have to leave your home, make the coffee and put some Bailey's in it, Irish Creme Coffee cures hangover symptoms falsely speaking though. Alcohol will numb the pain but doesn't cure.

A nice hot shower can do the trick, sometimes. Just let the hot water run down over you for thirty to forty minutes. Make the shower hot enough to create lots of steam. The steam from the shower will open your pores and help eliminate the toxins from the body. Letting the water run over your neck and shoulders will help with that headache as well.

If your stomach is up to it, have a light breakfast that is high protein and low fat. Eggs, toast and a little butter is a great hangover meal. Avoid milk and other dairy products dairy will only add to the nausea and may cause you to vomit.

Of course there is that unpleasant experience, too. some individuals need to vomit to start the feel good process again but if you are like most individuals and you can't stand the thought of vomiting then take it easy by laying down and be sure to follow the all steps above for hangover relief.

Remember, it is important to keep drinking the water throughout your day even without a hangover it is a good idea to drink plenty of water. Stay hydrated, the more water you drink the more you will have to visit the bathroom throughout the day and this will also flush out the bad stuff and help you feel better quicker.

To help with the hydration you could also get a electrolyte rich sports drink, this will help you replenish vital vitamins and minerals that your body depleted while you were intoxicated. Your body needs these electrolytes to function properly. Sports drinks are also loaded with sugar which will fuel your muscles during and after a hard work out so if sugary high carbohydrate drinks are not for you then stay away from them altogether.

Each of these suggestions will help you get rid of your hangover in a reasonable time and you should feel better as the day proceeds. Time is the best thing you can give yourself after a night of heavy drinking and partying. Every hour that passes, you will feel better and better. Throwing in a nap or taking it easy on the couch is the best way for you to get back to your old self.

Most importantly, if you frequently consume a lot of alcohol, you should be prepared. Your local or internet vitamin store carries hangover formulas that are perfectly formulated to replace what was lost over a night of partying. Be prepared by keeping these formulas in your medicine cabinet when a hangover happens you can pop a few pills to help your body feel better.

Bamboo extract contains high concentrations of naturally occurring silica known to have restorative effects on skin surface. In China bamboo plays a role in almost all aspects of society, from building and architecture to food and medicine. Either as food or cream, it is believed to have anti-aging properties. Largely owing to its popularity in the East, a myriad of topical applications have been developed from bamboo nowadays.

Bamboo has been cultivated in Asia since time immemorial. In a typical Asian town, it is difficult to look around and not realize the overwhelming presence of bamboo. It is ubiquitous in that it plays a very noticeable role in just anything any way you look at it. To name a few: the timber used in building huts and palaces, the bamboo shoots in many favorite Asian delicacies. The many cultures of Asia identify with one iconic plant, bamboo.

Diet Responsible for the Youthful Look

Be it known that bamboo symbolizes longevity in China. Consumption of bamboo shoots ought to delay the onset of wrinkles and promote a radiant youthful-looking skin, explaining its widespread use in traditional culinary practices of neighboring countries. In Southeast Asia, thin slices of bamboo shoots are added to just any dish, including pastries and spring rolls. In India, the pith of bamboo is pickled and used as a condiment added to curry powders. In Vietnam, it is primarily stir-fried with other vegetables. In Japan, the timber is boiled several times until it becomes soft enough to be eaten. The sap is also widely used in wines, soft drinks, and health tonics, which are reported to reduce fever, ease muscle spasms, and increase libido.

    Bamboo Manna

The mineral silica in is extracted from bamboo leaves and stems. Bamboo extract may also refer to the well known English term Bamboo Manna, in other words bamboo silica. In the old days Bamboo Manna was primarily obtained from Melocanna bambusoides, a certain species of bamboo also known as Muli bamboo. Silica is notably associated with bamboos in India, where it is extracted from the natural white substance locally called tabashir or banslochan. It is very difficult to obtain this substance the traditional way as it is harvested by checking individual stems. Bamboos alleged to contain silica are supposed to make a rattling sound when shaken, and then split open.

Today the bamboo extract found in common cosmetic products, such as silica gel, soaps, lotions, and exfoliants, mostly comes from the leaves in the form of liquid, which changes to a crystalline powder rich in silica. These products are noted for their positive effects, including maintaining the ductile properties of hair and washing away dead skin cells and unwanted agents.

Look for quality bamboo products at your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase for consumption.

If you or someone you love has sleep apnea, obesity may be a contributing factor. Maybe you are kept awake by the horrendous snoring, snorting or get worried because sometimes your spouse sounds like they are choking. These are all signs and symptoms of sleep apnea and you should encourage them to go to the doctor or get yourself to the doctor if this is you.

The way obesity comes into play with sleep apnea is that the fatty tissue that has built up around the neck affects the neck muscles and soft palate and even the little flap in the back of your throat called the uvula and when you go to sleep all the muscles relax and the fatty tissue relaxes also and closes off your airway. This is dangerous because at some point you may just stop breathing all together.

This is called respiratory failure and it is fatal. This does not happen frequently but it does happen, the best advice you can get is to get the treatment you need so you do not have to worry about it happening to you. Talk to your doctor before it is too late. Sudden death can occur at any time.

The next best piece of advice I can give you about sleep apnea obesity is to lose the excess weight. did you know if you lose just 10% of your total body fat you can decrease the seriousness of your sleep apnea by 30% and it just goes up from there. The more you lose the better off you will be and when you get to your ideal weight or even just meet your weight loss goal you may not have sleep apnea anymore.

How do you know if you have sleep apnea? Well, there are ways to tell that you might if you do not have someone to tell you you snore. Do you ever wake up and your mouth is so dry you feel like you have to pry your tongue from the roof of your mouth with a pry bar? Are you always tired? Do you need more coffee than usual to stay awake during the day? Could be sleep apnea is affecting the quality of your sleep and your life.

If you and your doctor agree that you may have sleep apnea, he or she will refer you to the respiratory care center of the clinic or hospital and get you fitted for a CPAP machine and mask. This will take some getting used to because you will have to wear the mask when you are sleeping. If you also make a lifestyle change and start to lose the weight you probably will not have to use the machine for too long. It all depends on how quickly you can lose the weight.

As soon as you lose the weight sleep apnea obesity will be a thing of the past and you can rest easy and get back to a normal way of life. Look to your local or internet vitamin store for remedies to aid in sleep and weight loss.

The prostate gland is an important part of the male reproductive system. It is actively involved during functioning. Routine medical check-ups of men over the age of 45 unfortunately showed that nearly all of them have enlarged prostates due to prostatic nodules. These nodules form by the condensation of secretions inside the gland. In some cases, the nodules grow quite large and may block the flow of urine, making urination very painful. Thus, hormone-blocking drugs and plant extracts which can inhibit DHT hormone secretion or its actions can be recommended to slow the growth of prostatic nodules. One phytopharmaceutical agent which is widely used for centuries to maintain the health of the prostate gland is the Saw Palmetto Berry.

Saw Palmetto Berry is a medicinal plant of the palm family that originates in America. Also known as Serenoa repens or Sabal, this plant naturally grows in the southeastern part of the United States, specifically in the coastal area of South Carolina and Alabama, in certain areas of Georgia and Mississippi and throughout Florida, the state where Saw Palmetto is geographically abundant. The plant has a thick leaf stems which are lined with sharp, saw-like teeth, thus the name "saw" was derived. Its fruit matures and ripens with high humidity and heat, hence fruits usually develop on the month of August to September. After it is harvested, the berries will be processed into a large drying machine and then imported to extractors, mostly in Europe. After the extraction process, the extracts will be shipped back to the United States for further processes.

Saw Palmetto was presented to the medical community by Dr. J. Read from Savannah, Georgia, who published a meta-analysis report of his clinical experience with the plant in 1879. Further studies reveal that there are four known major categories of compounds in this plant, namely, Free Fatty Acids, Phytosterols, Free Fatty Alcohols and monolycerides. The active ingredients are the Free Fatty Acids and the Phytosterols. Though further studies are still on going, preliminary reports reveal that the mechanism of Saw Palmetto Berry includes the decrease of the levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which facilitates prostatic secretion condensation, and the reduction of the action of Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF), which is significant in prostate growth and nodular development. In fact, IGF changes have been evidenced in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

Saw Palmetto supplements in the market come in two preparations, dried berries and extracts. The extracts contain the actual compounds and the sufficient concentration that are effective in maintaining the health of the prostate gland. On the other hand, dried berries may provide with smaller quantities of the needed active ingredients. If you opt to take saw palmetto dried berries, you may need to ingest at least one or two grams a day. Experts' state that the ratio of dried berries to extracts is usually about 10 is to 1.

Generally, the effects of Saw Palmetto Berries supplement takes several weeks or months. The commonly suggested dosage of this supplement is 320 mg of a 80-90% extract or 640 mg of a 40-50% extract daily. The dose is usually split and taken two times a day. Look to your local or internet vitamin store for quality name brand saw palmetto berry extracts to ensure quality and purity of what you purchase for the prostate.

Our body could be likened into a machine that utilizes many gears to be able to perform its various functions. Its intricacy lies on the mere mystery unto how different parts coordinate with the others to achieve a synchrony that makes a lot of things possible. Digestion is one body function that never fails to take occurrence in a normal and healthy human body. The complex process of digestion would not take its toll without the aid of various enzymes that helps the body in breaking down the foods that we eat into its simplest form so that it could be utilized for whatever specific purpose that it may serve. One of the many useful enzymes that can be found in the digestive system is the proteolytic enzyme.

For us not to be deficient with proteolytic enzymes we must be watchful with our diet and consume foods that contains liberal amount of such enzyme like papaya and pineapple. In times when you are having problems with digestion such as abdominal bloating, and indigestion, it's always wise to consider such fruits and savor high amounts of bromelain and papain, which are proteolytic enzymes in nature.

However, there are times when problems with digestion are no longer bearable. When such situation arise, it is always best to seek your doctor's advice regarding which vitamin supplement/pill would best help you solve your problem. Supplement that contains bromelain and papain are useful in giving enzyme deficiency a remedy but needless to say, extra caution should be observed when taking these supplements because anything consumed in excess may cause unwanted side effects.

A lot of researchers are presently exploring the wonders of proteolytic enzymes through their researches and studies. In time, people will reap the good fruits of their labor. The next generations will surely be luckier because in their time more discoveries will surface which they could use in their advantage.

If we are really concerned when it comes to our health, we must make sure that we are getting enough of what our body needs. We should consume adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals in order to sustain our body's different functions. In terms of digestion, which I believe is one of the body's major and most fundamental functions, we need various enzymes like the proteolytic enzyme to prevent problems in digestion from occurring. It's never too late to modify our lifestyle for the better. Before everything will reach into its most morbid state, we should start to act now by becoming more vigilant and cautious with the kind of food that we eat. We should always have this sense of self inquiry whether or not we are getting enough because by doing so we could do prompt interventions to correct whatever wrong practices and unhealthy lifestyle that we are already accustomed to. I hope that by reading this article, you are somehow enlightened about proteolytic enzyme's sheer beauty and importance.

Look for a quality proteolytic enzyme supplement at your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands to ensure quality and purity of what you purchase for digestion.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Enzymes are important in the body for the various biological processes it undergoes almost every second of life to be able to sustain life and maintain an optimum functioning. One of these significant enzymes is known as proteolytic enzyme. The name "proteo-" means protein while "-lytic" means to lyse or to break down into smaller absorbable amounts. Hence, by the name it denotes, proteolytic enzymes work by digesting proteins into amino acids in which the body can easily transport and utilize for cellular activities. These enzymes are also significant in maintaining a healthy immune system, more particularly with the inflammatory response. There are a number of proteolytic enzymes utilized by the body and one promising, safe and guaranteed effective proteolytic enzyme is called Serrapeptase.

Serrapeptase, also known as Serratio peptidase, serratiopeptidase or serratia peptidase, is an enzyme that is naturally produced by the bacterium Serratia E15. This microorganism is found in the digestive tract of silkworms, more abundantly in their intestines. Serrapeptase has been long and widely used in the medical practice of Japan and Europe for over three decades already. Though this beneficial enzyme was first isolated from silkworms, it can also be naturally extracted through fermentation of the bacterium.

Clinical studies show that Serrapeptase has a potent protein-lysing effect. This enzyme can gradually dissolve cysts, nonliving tissues and blood clots which can lead to heart attacks or stroke. Research reveals that Serrapeptase also facilitates control of molecules involved in both the immune and the blood clotting systems.

Physiologically, dead tissues tend to surround the site of injury. These dead tissues are chemically composed of proteins, specifically used-up fibrin and blood clots. Due to Serrapeptase's proteolytic quality, it also has anti-inflammatory characteristic by way of dissolving used and unnecessary fibrin materials during an inflammation response. They need to be removed through lysing and digestion before the injured tissue completely heals and regenerates. The mechanism of action is that it breaks down the dead fibrin making it possible for the blood to carry it away from the site of injury. Thus, swelling will be reduced and the pain at the injured site will be relieved.

Serrapeptase is not only utilized by silkworms for breaking down of ingested food but also to thin and dissolve the walls of their cocoons when the time comes that they have to emerge into their moth state. A manifold of studies was done for this life process. After it was understood that it was an enzyme that was responsible for this change in life state, scientists thought that this enzyme may also be helpful in wound fibrin lysing and started to experiment on manufacturing this enzyme by fermentation process involving the bacterium itself, not the silkworm. Thus, commercial Serrapeptase as proteolytic enzyme supplement is made available into the market.

Accordingly, medications such as Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs can relieve pain quickly, but unfortunately they can cause irritation to the gastric wall lining and may result to other side effects if taken regularly or if used for a long time. On the other hand, the proteolytic enzyme Serrapeptase is a natural biological agent with no inhibitory effects on prostaglandins and is reported to have in gastrointestinal side effects.

This makes serrapeptase a great anti-inflammatory and preventive enzyme when taken regularly. Have you had your serrapeptase today?

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Discovered in 1934, hyaluronic acid can be found anywhere there is the need for connective tissue in your body. Your joints, your eyes and your heart all contain hyaluronic acid, and a shortage can lead to a wide range of bodily defects, including the appearance of accelerated aging. It is a glycosaminoglycan, a form of polysaccharide that is not only found in connective tissue and epithelial and neural cells, but is also important in the growth and renewal of body cells.

We shall discuss here how hyaluronic acid affects specific areas of your body, and what the effect of a deficiency would mean, but also keeping in mind that an excess of this polysaccharide can also have a serious impact on your health although it offers few side effects worth noting.

    Hyaluronic Acid and Your Joints

The highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) in your body is found in the synovial fluid, the fluid lubricating contained in your joints, and it is also plays an important role in maintaining the function of cartilage in keeping your joints flexible and well cushioned. It is chemically a glycosaminoglycan that is formed from glucosamine and glucuronic acid. Its production is boosted by chondroitin, which is why glucosamine and chondroitin are commonly used supplements for the treatment of arthritis.

Specifically, HA joins with collagen and elastin to produce cartilage, and also increases the supply of synovial fluid that maintains lubricity within the joints. Without the synovial fluid your cartilage would soon become worn away and your bones would grind together, eventually seizing up. By taking hyaluronic acid orally as a supplement, you can help to maintain healthy joints by maintaining the integrity of the cartilage and the quality of the synovial fluid.

Because the cartilage contains no blood vessels, it is reliant on the synovial fluid to keep it supplied with nutrients, and specifically with HA which is a large part of its structure. Without this important polysaccharide your body would not be able to function: no mobility, dry flaky skin and poor or no eyesight.

    Hyaluronic Acid and Your Skin

Hyaluronic acid occurs in the lower layers of your skin where it helps to maintain a smooth and full appearance to your skin due to its hygroscopic nature in absorbing up to a thousand times its weight of water. For this reason HA is frequently used in skin moisturizing treatments and lotions.

HA is not found inside body cells, but appears to be restricted to the extracellular regions between cells where its moisturizing properties are critical in maintaining suppleness. Elastin requires copious quantities of water to remain elastic or it would otherwise become brittle: that is why our skin looks dry and wrinkled when we age. It is due to a lack of moisture: the moisture that hyaluronic acid can bring to the table. The problem is that HA reduces with age and in order to maintain our youthful looks we have to take a supplement.

Hyaluronic acid doesn't last long in your skin: it has to be renewed constantly and each day about 50% of the HA content of your skin is lost. It takes about two weeks for the same degree of loss to occur in the synovial fluid of your joints. The look of your skin depends to a very large extent on the extracellular matrix, or what is contained between your skin cells. The more moisture there then the smoother and plumper your skin will appear.

As you age, your hyaluronic acid production drops and so your skin becomes increasingly more depleted of moisture. This causes it to dry up and wrinkle. Were there one substance that I would choose as the elixir of life it would be HA, because by taking a regular supplement your natural daily loss is replenished and your skin is given a hand to maintain its soft, moist plumpish look that helps you to keep you looking young.

    Hyaluronic Acid and Your Eyes

The vitreous humor is the liquid inside your eyeball, and it contains a large amount of hyaluronic acid. It helps absorb shock and to maintain the shape of the eyeball. The HA is so important that your body has developed a special set of cells known as the hyalocytes of Balazs that are believed to promote the renewal of hyaluronic acid, and also possibly its breakdown.

There is still a lot of research going on into this but the importance of HA in the vitreous humor and other aqueous area of your body is not in question. It helps to retain water and give structure to the liquid media within your body, whether that is between the bones of your joints, in the dermal and epidermal regions of your skin to keep it supple, or in your eyeball. In fact, it is believed to take up 70% - 80% of your eye, and helps to keep the retina in place exactly where it has to be for your eyesight to work.

    Because Hyaluronic acid is:

    a) present between the cells in every tissues in your body, and

    b) a consumable, in that it gets used up rapidly, and

    c) your biochemistry's ability to regenerate it reduces with age,

a supplement is the ideal way in which to maintain its levels in your extracellular system. In some instances injections are given, particularly in expensive anti-wrinkling treatment, but studies have shown that hyaluronic acid taken as an oral supplement shows an improvement after an average of 3 months treatment.

It should be understood that the average person has around 15 grams hyaluronic acid in their body, of which 5 grams is continually degraded and synthesized daily. When you reach an age that your ability to generate HA is impaired, then an oral supplement will be less expensive than injections, the hyaluronic acid of which will also be degraded with time. It won't be long before you need more treatment, and oral supplements are less expensive than private hypodermic injections.

A Hyaluronic acid supplement can be taken to improve the suppleness and appearance of youthful skin, help maintain the integrity of your eyesight and help to reduce the symptoms of arthritis and many other conditions brought on by a reduction in the synovial fluid and hydration of the skeletal and connective tissues of your body. In other words, it helps to keep you looking younger for longer and to keep your joints and your eyesight in good health.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Soy protein and whey protein have a lot in common: both come in powder forms and both are used as bodybuilding supplements. You certainly can benefit from both whether you are a bodybuilder or not. Whey protein has long been associated with bodybuilding, and soy protein has been involved in recent studies concerning its role against diabetes and heart diseases.

If you are not sure which one to add to your health regimen, here are some factors that differentiate them.

    Food Sources

Whey is a dairy product. It is the liquid separated from the milk curd in the production of cheese. When the cheese is removed, the liquid is dried and filtered to remove the fats it contains. It may also undergo a process called spray drying to yield higher protein content.

Soy protein comes from the legume soybean. The beans are ground until soy flakes or finer soy flour is produced, and from here three different processes can be used in producing slurry that results in the settling of protein. All processes make it easier to isolate the protein concentrate from the slurry.

    Protein Content

Whey protein powders have varying protein content. Whey called concentrates has up to 70 per cent protein while powders labeled as isolates have higher protein at 90 per cent on average. Both of which have a milky taste whereas whey proteins that undergo the process called hydrolysis are very bitter.

All of the processes used to make soy protein yield consistently high protein content at 65 per cent on average. However, the proportion of protein absorbed by the intestinal walls is lower in comparison with most protein coming from dairy products largely due to the fact that its solubility is low.

    Other Substances

Whey protein products may have other bioactive chemicals like carbohydrates. Whey powders with lower protein content have higher levels of carbohydrates in the form of lactose, which is not good for you if you are lactose intolerant. Some have caseins, the major allergens of milk.

Soy protein products always have a significant fraction of carbohydrates, which can be as high as 40 per cent. At the same time, soy protein is a good source of fiber accounting for an average of 5 per cent. It may also have oil and an insoluble residue composed of inorganic compounds.

    Digestion Rate

Most proteins from animal sources are easy to digest, including whey. This is the reason why whey powders remain the popular choice among bodybuilders. In addition, whey protein that undergoes the process called hydrolysis has the amino acids broken down, making it the fastest to absorb among all protein supplements.

On the other hand, soy protein has been known especially among bodybuilders to have quite lower digestion rate. Over the years new soy products with much higher biological value, the percentage of protein eventually converted for use by the body, have been made available in the market.

Depending on what you need it for, both offer a wide array of benefits. Have you had your serving of whey or soy protein today?

Cinnamon is one of the wonders of baked goods, its pungent aroma inviting the single thought of cinnamon buns. It has been a distinctive ingredient of Persian delicacies since time immemorial, and quite popular at that, even noted as prized commodity in the Old Testament. Today, cinnamon extract is valued not just for its role in adding spice to sweets and pastries but for improving diabetes.

    History and Medicinal Use

For most of the history of the Middle East and Europe, the origin of cinnamon remained a mystery. Early merchants and Latin writers had to conjure some mythical tales of this extraordinary produce and seemingly untraceable trade route, attributing its manufacture to legendary flying creatures of Arabia. Herodotus and Aristotle are among the notable figures in antiquity who made mentions of the bird as if it was real and existing, identifying it as kinnamomon orneon.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has kept a historical log of the uses of cinnamon as early as the twentieth century BC, dubbing it one of the 50 most important herbs in existence. Cinnamon extract has up to now been used to cure the common cold, diarrhea and other digestive ailments, troubles with urination, skin conditions like freckles, gum problems including toothache, and punctures due to animal bites. More recent studies point to chemical compounds that exhibit antioxidant and antimicrobial activities.

    Lowering Blood Glucose Levels

Sugar levels in the blood may contribute to diabetes, high concentrations being dangerous. The primary simple sugar in the human body known as glucose is carried around in the bloodstream and distributed to all cells, whose proper function depends on the availability of glucose as an energy source. Glucose levels drop when we are asleep because there's nothing much to do. The liver and muscle tissues store unused body sugar in the form of glycogen. In the morning glucose releases peak, powering all the activities we engage in.

There are hormones that regulate the production of glucose and its presence in the blood. However, too much absorption of sweets and other forms of carbohydrates may lead to an unprecedented rise in blood sugar, and so with changes in lifestyle might be lowered just as well. The problem arises in times when certain metabolic responses are having trouble decreasing glucose releases. Cinnamon extract as a metabolic compound naturally occurring in plants has now been tested to aid this problem.

    Improving Insulin Sensitivity

Most cases of chronic diabetes have something to do with a hormone called insulin, which is heavily involved in regulating glucose levels in the body. Insulin is responsible for controlling the cells in the liver and muscle tissues to absorb glucose and either use it as energy or store it as glycogen. Blood glucose levels rise when the ability of these cells to respond to insulin becomes impaired. Fortunately, cinnamon extract has shown remarkable effects in treating insulin resistance, removing a common risk factor for diabetes.

Quality cinnamon extract is available in capsule, tablet, or liquid forms. Always choose name brands like Solaray to ensure quality and purity.

Hypericum perforatum, an herb also known as St. John's Wort, has long been used in treatment of depression. The use of its extracts has been concluded to show efficacious results in over five thousand patients diagnosed with major depression by an up-to-date, systematic review of twenty-nine clinical trials. Today safe, standardized dosages can be purchased over the counter to aid individuals suffering from mild depression.

    Historical Uses

The widespread belief in connection with its purported potency against mood disorders can be traced back to more than two thousand years ago when it was already used to fight off melancholia, the old name for depression. Earliest records dating back to Greek antiquity tell us that St. John's Wort had been the popular choice against illnesses believed to be brought on by maleficent spirits corrupting the human soul.

Its name in the vernacular is proof that it took on spiritual nuances, not only due to common Christian practices but also pagan rituals. Its yellow five-petalled flowers had been utilized to ornament statuettes in honor of the old Greek gods, and were used the same way in Christian worship. It was believed that the best time to pick the plant was on the annual feast celebration of St. John as the summer solstice neared. Before long it was associated with religious rites that were supposed to exorcise demons, the thick red liquid of St. John's Wort being the blood of Christ.

    Major Depressive Disorder

The use of St. John's Wort against mental disorders was rediscovered to a greater degree in the modern times when in the latter part of the 19th century it was approved for treating patients afflicted with certain psychical disturbances such as anxiety and depression in Germany. The discovery of hypericin and hyperforin in the late 1970's led to a series of researches and clinical trials that provide substantiation of its age-old claim to cure melancholia.

Both hypericin and hyporfirin are tied to three chemical compounds that are believed to influence depression: (1) MAOA (2) dopamine and (3) serotonin. High-activity variants of an enzyme called MAOA are an indicator of major depressive disorders in both males and females, and hypericin inhibits this enzyme. The reuptake of monoamines has been tied to the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, noted as a widely accepted risk factor for depression. Hyporfirin's interference with this process leads to increased levels of serotonin and dopamine at the cellular level, resulting in the touted benefits of St. John's wort against depression.

    Recent Popularity

It is of special note that St. John's Wort is among the most popular antidepressants available today with worldwide annual sales of up to $550 million dollars. According to studies underway the use of St. John's Wort is as effective as standard antidepressants. Also, randomized clinical trials always point to efficacy far more superior to placebo. These reasons coupled with the fact that there is an apparent absence of side effects even in extended periods of time explain the popularity of St. John's Wort.

If you suffer from mild depression, what is stopping you from giving st. john's wort a try today?

It is common knowledge that eating right and taking a multivitamin work hand in hand in keeping a healthy lifestyle. In the old days concentrates and dried fruits were sold as multivitamin products. The introduction of tablets in the 20th century raised dosage accuracy, but the availability of soft gelatin multiple today makes it easier for us to absorb the vitamins and minerals our body needs.

There has been inconclusive evidence as to multivitamins help against major diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, and osteoporosis, and health departments and ministries in most countries have not taken a position on the promotion of the role of multivitamins either. In spite of that, one thing is for sure: taking a multivitamin plays a significant role in addressing vitamin deficiencies.

A number of medical groups and health professionals believe that multivitamins is a factor of a healthier body, not to mention longer life, and thus have staunchly promoted the wide use of multivitamins, stressing the low prevalence of chronic diseases among populations noted to take preparations of vitamins. Also, medical journals have routinely publicized studies that point to the health benefits of multivitamins.

Inadequate consumptions of vitamins and minerals translate into deficiencies, which are implicated in a lot of diseases, directly or indirectly. It makes sense to most of us to take multivitamins so that we get the nutrients we don't get from the foods we eat. Besides, there are foods we just don't want to eat even if they contain all the vitamins and minerals we need.

    Increased Bioavailability

The purpose of the development of modern pills in the 20th century is to provide accurate doses of medications and supplements. Tablets and capsules are drug preparations that rely on several other substances to keep the molecular structure of active ingredients from changing before oral administration. All the same it is a known fact that tablets and capsules are poorly absorbed by the human body, the reason why intravenous methods are used in urgent situations.

Soft gelatin multiple is a recent innovation in the production of pharmaceutical drugs. The gelatin that contains the active ingredients removes the need for other inactive substances, keeping their chemical makeup largely unchanged until it reaches the inner digestive tract. With that, once the soft gelatin is digested in the stomach the active ingredients are ready for absorption by the intestinal walls.

    Longer Shelf Life

The technology involved in the manufacture of soft gelatin multiple show unmatched precision, and the homogeneity is evidenced by each and every single softgel, ensuring greater accuracy of dosage than most available preparations nowadays. Gelatin is all natural and has the clear absence of color and odor, removing any disagreeable smell or taste of the active ingredients. In addition, gelatin encapsulation seals the active ingredients in an air-tight environment, completely maintaining the chemical makeup of the ingredients by protecting them from outside reactions like oxidation.

Without a doubt soft gelatin multiple is the smart choice. What is stopping you from trying a multiple vitamin to improve your health today?

Head cold has been around since time immemorial. Also known as the common cold since the 16th century, it now accounts for up to 100 million physician visits and over 7 billion estimated costs yearly in the US alone. It is self-limiting, lasting up to a week on average, but displays symptoms that disrupt daily routines more often than not, driving people to seek symptomatic relief. There are numerous home remedies that vary in different countries, and one of these herbal applications is garlic oil, which has been used in treatment of coughs throughout the centuries.

    Head Cold and Viruses

Human beings catch a cold up to twelve times in one year, making the common cold not only the most common respiratory disease, but the most common infectious disease as well. Symptoms vary in every individual and each infection, but may include runny nose, sneezing, cough, sore throat, watery eyes, and nasal congestion. Some equate colds with flu, but contrary to popular belief, the former does not infect the lungs but only the upper respiratory tract: nasal cavity, pharynx, and larynx whereas the latter also involves the lower respiratory tract, including the lungs.

The variation in symptoms is largely due to the fact that the common cold is brought about by one of over a hundred cold-causing viruses. There is no known cure or vaccine for the common cold owing to the large number of viruses, which mutate continually and come in different groups. The group of virus very well known to frequently induce colds is the human rhinovirus, which includes 99 different species. A couple of days after rhinoviruses and other cold-causing viruses infect the upper respiratory tract, the body defenses release a legion of antibodies that kill these viruses and rid the body of infected cells to avoid viral regeneration, lasting up to seven days on average.

    Garlic Oil and Viruses

Garlic has always been associated with its medicinal uses for ages. The first noted use of garlic by physicians in Greek antiquity was in treatment of wounds and bites, including leprosy and similar skin lesions. In addition to its healing properties, Greek soldiers and athletes believed that garlic enhances strength and performance in battle. It was a prized ingredient in humoral medicine, touted as a panacea in ancient medical accounts. Peasants and poor citizens with pneumonia used garlic extensively as word of mouth spread its efficacy.

In the early 20th century garlic was extensively used against typhoid fever, cholera, and smallpox. More recent studies point to the role the compounds found in garlic oil play in fighting off respiratory tract infections. Garlic produces antibacterial and antiviral compounds when crushed. In a study involving 146 participants that spanned for 12 weeks, one group given garlic supplements during winter was reported to show a much lower risk of catching colds.

Garlic oil is available in capsule, softgel, or liquid form. Always choose name brands like Source Naturals, Now foods, and Solaray to ensure quality and purity.

Just as we always tell our children to eat the right foods to become healthy and strong we need to make sure their body is capable of protecting them against diseases. We get them their flu shot and other immunizations against known diseases. All of these healthy measures have something to do with boosting their immune system while their young. With that, one of the easiest measures we need to make sure they get as they grow up is their daily dose of chewable vitamin C, which removes the pesky routine of having them take pills they have trouble swallowing.

    Growth and Healthy Metabolism

Daily intake of Vitamin C goes beyond the proven fact that it wards off the common cold and many other diseases. It is an important component of the human body, and its deficiency will take a toll on our body in a very visible way. Every single tissue in our body is in its active growth stage while we are young, and this calls for an urgent need to supply sufficient amounts of Vitamin C.

The chemical reactions in our body that keep us going are called metabolism, and Vitamin C is present in many metabolic functions. One metabolism of special note as we grow up is collagen synthesis in that collagen, which accounts for up to 6 per cent of the muscle tissues, is the most abundant protein in the human body. Collagen in children directly contributes to their growth, and its production is dependent on Vitamin C.

Cells make up every tissue and organ in our body. They need to function properly to take part in the millions of cellular activities that contribute to a stable and healthy environment inside the body. They are of course powered by the air we breathe and the food we eat. A compound called carnitine serves as the transport of energy inside the cells. This compound is releases from the liver and necessitates the presence of Vitamin C in its production. Children being in the growth phase need high amounts of carnitine.

Chewable Vitamin C is Perfect for Children

When syrup is not quite the solution, we just have to force our children to take any available form of medication, including the dreaded pills. Chewable Vitamin C comes in handy if we don't want to go through all sorts of ritual, such as the promise of reward or the threat of punishment, for a vitamin.

Does it give our children the right amounts of Vitamin C? Yes, definitely. Vitamin C is water soluble. It gets dissolved in the mouth as the saliva is a water-based fluid, in fact 98 per cent water. With or without water, the saliva makes the vitamin ready for absorption when it reaches the intestines. The only thing that we have to worry about is that children don't get their hands on it just any time since it is quite addicting. With chewable vitamin C, our problem is solved and our children are protected.

If you haven't picked up a great tasting chewable vitamin C for your child, what is stopping you from doing it today?

Article Title: Can B Vitamins Help With Stress?

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

There's no denying that stress is a part of everyday life, and it can result from just anything: the compounding workload that we really don't want to do in the first place, the very expectations that we set for ourselves to achieve, and many others. For one reason or another we just can't get a breather. There seems to be one way to get around it: we need to find ways to cope with stress. What better way to deal with stress than the natural way? This is where B Vitamins can help.

We need to take into account that the stress we feel takes a toll on our body sooner and later. If we choose to push ourselves to the limits, our overall strength, bodily and mental, slowly breaks down when stress comes into play. Of course we need to get through a lot of work that just keeps on coming, but we shouldn't disregard the signs our body gives us. For example, intake of B vitamins has been proven to remove unwanted chemicals in the human body that produce stress.

    Dopamine and Motivation

Little do we know that as we go on doing the same things over and over again we are contributing to a likely decline in our physical health. How is that? You must have heard of the chemical compound responsible for the human behavior that seeks rewards. It's dopamine. There are things that we take pleasure in because dopamine allows us to. We feel invigorated when we do some things for the first time inasmuch as the nerve cells in the brain release dopamine at high concentrations.

Things we particularly don't take a liking to do not merit the release of dopamine. This is how we respond to certain stimuli and the reason why we feel less motivated to do what we deem as boring stuff. Doing repeated tasks in long periods of time decreases dopamine levels, leading to mental disorders like depression. Physical disorders associated with the decline in dopamine production ensue. Luckily, sufficient amounts of B vitamins in the body reverse the process.

    Reactive Oxygen Species

The chemical reactions in the body collectively called oxidation-reduction are responsible for kick-starting the processes involved in the proper functioning of tissues and organs by introducing oxygen to their chemical makeup. Oxygen is important in keeping the communication between cells stable. Oxidized particles called reactive oxygen species carry around oxygen in the body and distribute it to the cells. However, elevated levels of reactive oxygen species are indicators of stress.

The human body has agents that dispose of needless reactive oxygen species, including free radicals. Sometimes our body fails to release these agents, and free radicals instigate a process that damages everything at the cellular level, including DNA. There are conditions that promote the unmitigated production of free radicals, undesirable working environments being one. This is when we should make sure we get our daily dose of supplements that exhibit antioxidant activities like B vitamins.

A B-complex stress formula can also support good adrenal function when taken regularly, have you had your b-complex today?

Article Title: Can Ginger and Curcumin Ease Joint Pain?

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

There are a lot of changes in our body that we are having a hard time getting used to as we age, and joint pain is one of the changes we often complain about. Some of us may be able to learn to live with it, but to those who do not, it could be more than just a nuisance. Ginger known to have the organic compound curcumin can help with joint pain. It is readily available and all natural.

Joint pain is something we can't just ignore for the rest of our lives, and the earlier we deal with it, the sooner we feel better. Millions of adults experience the pain, but what causes the pain is not always due to aging. There are chemicals in the human body that attacks the cartilage lining of the joints, sensitizing the joints to pain. Curcumin addresses this problem by acting on the chemical secretions.

    Arthritis and Ginger

When we complain about joint pains, it's arthritis we're talking about. What is arthritis exactly? It is not the pain; it is the damaging of the joints in the body, which may lead to the pain. One thing we often misunderstand is that it is entirely caused by age. That belief is misleading inasmuch as there are individuals well over their nineties who never had symptoms of the disease, notably those whose ginger consumption is high.

Osteoarthritis is the most widespread of all types of arthritis. It starts when the cartilage, the tissue that connects the ends of the bones, thins and wears out. It happens when the protein that fills the cartilage is decreased, resulting in a less flexible and less resilient cartilage. Is age the primary factor? No. It's the daily wear and tear especially caused by activities that overstress your joints.

Other forms of arthritis are autoimmune disorders, that is, the immune system contributes to the chronic condition. Rheumatoid arthritis is among the most well recognized, affecting about 1 per cent of the total population of the world, and may attack individuals of any age. It is associated with the stiffness in the joints upon waking up in the morning lasting and a pronounced pain during inactivity.

    Inflammation and Curcumin

First, it's tear and wear, then, the pain. How is that? Cartilaginous tissues do not have blood vessels in them. Thus, the healing process is considerably slower than in tissues with blood vessels to the extent that it does not catch up with the continued tear and wear as we go on pushing the limits of our body. This is the time our body deploys inflammatory agents, leading to joint pain.

How does ginger help? Inflammation has something to do with all cases of arthritis as compounds implicated in the process fill the spaces between the eroding masses in the joints. Curcumin, the naturally occurring compound in ginger, counteracts the pain chemicals tied to inflammation. Curcumin allows the process to take place, thereby contributing to the continued healing of the joints.

A combination formula of ginger and curcumin can go a long way to help boost health and wellness. Have you tried ginger and curcumin today?

Pregnancy is a delicate stage of a woman's life. The well-being of the mother determines the right development of the baby inside her. The nourishment she receives before, during, and even after this stage plays a direct role in keeping to a minimum unfavorable conditions for her and the baby. For years the availability of prenatal vitamins has been of considerable help in removing unwanted complications during pregnancy.

    Right Formulation

Deficiency in needed nutrients has been linked to many different problems as early as the first trimester. Newborns are in fact deficient in certain vitamins because of their poor presence inside the placental walls under normal circumstances, and supplementation provides the solution. For example, increased bioavailability of folate reduces the likelihood of developmental defects of the nervous system.

On the other hand, significant increases in other chemical compounds bring more harm than benefits to the baby during the entire duration of gestation. Formulation of a prenatal vitamin is specialized for the health demands of the gestating mother and the growing fetus inside her. Seeking professional help prior to getting pregnant will help a woman identify her needs and prepare for the conception at the same time.

Let's have a look into some of the nutrients in prenatal vitamins and their benefits.

    Folic Acid

Human reproduction necessitates high levels of folate in the woman's body. In the first weeks of embryonic development there is a sharp drop in the folate levels of the mother due to the elevated production of red blood cells, which continues until the last weeks of gestation. Since a deficiency in folic acid has led to numerous cases of otherwise preventable birth defects, medical groups around the world have made positions concerning the required levels of folic acid for women wanting to get pregnant.

    Iron

The iron component of hemoglobin increases the total capacity of red blood cells to carry oxygen from the lungs and release it into the tissues for cellular use, and low iron levels incapacitate the cell to perform this vital function. Women at gestation are at special risk of low content of iron in the blood because of the iron requirements of her body and the continuing demands of the fetal environment, the reason why most prenatal vitamins incorporate amounts of iron tailored for pregnant women.

    Calcium

There is a routine process in the human body responsible for breaking down bone tissues and releasing the calcium they contain in the blood for use by the body. Of course, another process absorbs the calcium in the foods we eat and incorporate it as new bone material into our bones. In other words, our bones serve as a calcium bank for the rest of our body, and, in gestating women, the calcium source for the fetus. Intake of a prenatal vitamin avoids compromising the mother's bone density and meets the calcium needs of the baby.

Not only does a prenatal vitamin boost the baby's health, but it promotes the mother's overall wellness as well. Have you Had your prenatal vitamin today?

Feverfew is a medicinal herb reputed to relieve fever and migraine throughout the centuries. This perennial plant has taken on a vernacular name that means antipyretic, in other words one that reduces fever, dating back to Greek antiquity. It is an indigenous flora of the eastern part of Europe, the Balkan Peninsula and neighboring regions. Now it is grown in the rest of continental Europe and North America, but can also be traced as far down south as Chile. Botanically identified as Tanacetum parthenium, it may be more commonly known everywhere else as Chrysanthemum parthenium or Pyrethrum parthenium used in varying health practices to aid recurrent headaches and migraine attacks.

    Historical Uses

The English word feverfew was first used to refer to an herb of the composite family called Tanacetum parthenium as early as the 15th century, deriving from a Latin word translated as reducer of fever. While it was widely cultivated for its ornamental flowers in decorating lawns and gardens, it had been a part of a long tradition in folk medicine, most notably practiced by early Greek physicians not only to reduce fever but also to treat mental disorders like melancholia, also known as depression. Originating from Europe, it is now commercially grown in the other parts of the world, including Japan and Africa. Once planted it spreads to a wide area after a couple of years and can become quite invasive, explaining its continuing growth in the wild.

    Medicinal Properties

There are now researches well underway that further to explain how it exactly helps during increased body temperatures and at the onset of migraine, but for now it is enough proof to its medicinal use that feverfew has consistently exhibited therapeutic and healing effects. Preliminary results point to active hydrocarbon compounds now identified as parthenolide occurring in high concentrations in the flowers and fruits of Feverfew. These compounds have been repeatedly noted for its effects against hyperalgesia, the increased sensitivity of the human body to pain. Though not concluded as yet, pain brought about by migraines is commonly linked to the production of prostaglandins and the release of serotonins in the body. Compounds in feverfew inhibit the production of these chemicals, relieving migraine to that effect.

    Feverfew Preparations

In the old times, herbalists advised feverfew be chewed fresh and ingested. Today feverfew comes in teas, pills, and other powder forms. These supplements and medications are extracted from the leaves, which are dried first to get rid of irritants. Feverfew capsules and tablets generally contain parthenolide doses varying from 200 up to 250 micrograms, reported to bring relief from migraine. However, it is a must to get properly diagnosed by a physician to determine possible allergic reactions prior to taking any pharmacological forms of feverfew, including pills. It is also prepared as teas with no known adverse affects.

Feverfew is available in capsule, tablet, liquid extract, and bulk powder forms at your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands of feverfew to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase for internal consumption.

If you have spent any time looking on the internet to find a weight loss diet, you have definitely found quite a few of them. If you have looked through many different kinds and been unable to find the one that fits you best, then you should read on to see if you are able to find a weight loss diet that works well for you.

If you are looking for an interesting diet, then the cabbage soup diet is definitely the way to go. You can eat as much cabbage soup as you like while on this diet, at any time, and there are also a variety of other foods that you are able to eat while on this diet. The diet does, however, place a limit on the number and kinds of foods other than cabbage soup that you are allowed to consume. It is a good idea before you start this diet that you decide whether or not you like cabbage soup! If you don't like the taste of cabbage, then you will find it difficult to maintain the cabbage soup diet for any period of time.

An other fairly popular diet is known as the 3 day diet. This diet is considerably different then cabbage soup diet, however most of the drinks in this 3 day diet are limited to coffee and tea. If you are interested in finding more details on the 3 day diet, try a google search online for "three (3) day diet". You might find that it is just the right one for you.

But, for most of you out there a diet that can help you loose an extremely large amount of weight in a relatively short period of time is of greatest interest. This makes the grapefruit diet quite tempting to many people. With the grapefruit diet, you are given the list of the minimum amounts of food that you may eat, rather than the most! While there is something about the diet that you are not supposed to change, such as making sure that you always eat the bacon in the morning, this diet is extremely effective. It relies upon a specific mixture of different foods in order to help maximum the amount of weight loss one may experience.

Sometimes a diet supplement may be needed to help curve appetite between meals and boost metabolism. Most diet related supplements now contain the herb yohimbe. Yohimbe is extremely effective in boosting metabolism but doesn't do much for appetite. So you will find that diet supplement manufactures will add green tea to help curve appetite. Caffeine is commonly added as well to give the supplement an additional energy boost.

There is practically a diet for everybody out there, and you will probably have to do some research before you find the right one for you. You know yourself better than anyone else, so when you are making a decision on which weight loss diet is right for you, you will want to find a diet that fits with what you want and need. If you arent able to stick with the diet simply because you cannot enjoy the food, then you will not gain anything. Search online for weight loss diets and try to find the right one for you that fits your taste buds.

It is extremely important to maintain a healthy weight so you live a healthier longer life. With dietary control and supplements one can easily reach their weight goals. Remember to always use diet supplements with caution because they can boost the heart rate and have side effects if not taken as directed. Always consult your physician before adding diet supplements while on prescription medications. Great diet supplements can be found at your local or internet health food store.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

The majority of the human body is comprised of water and human beings can live only a very short time without water.

Water is a chemical substance that is essential to all known forms of life. It covers 71% of Earth's surface. It is found in the oceans (saltwater) and polar ice caps, but it is also present as clouds, rain water, rivers, freshwater aquifers, lakes, airborne vapor and sea ice.

Water in these bodies perpetually moves through a cycle of evaporation, precipitation, and runoff to the sea. Clean water is essential to human life. In many parts of the world, it is in short supply. (Source: Wikipedia)

Of all the water in the world, only about 3% is drinkable by human beings. Of this small percentage, the majority is either wholly or partially polluted by natural or man made contaminants. The body requires H2O to survive but not the contaminants found in most drinking water.

What Are Your Choices For Drinking Water?

Most people in the United States face limited choices of drinking water. They can either drink tap water provided by the municipalities they live in or well water on their own land. Neither of these choices provides pure drinking water.

What Are the Different Types of Drinking Water?

Generally speaking there are three choices for drinking water available to the consumer:

    • Tap Water (provided by local municipal water suppliers)

    • Well Water (found in more rural areas of the country)

    • Bottled Water (sold commercially throughout the country)

    Tap Water:

Tap water comes from local rivers and streams and very often plants that recycle raw sewerage and other waste water. Because many rivers, streams and other groundwater sources are polluted by natural runoff and man made contaminants, and all waste water and raw sewerage contain high levels of bacteria, increasing levels of chlorine are required to kill bacterial and other harmful organisms.

Tap water is regulated by The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) an agency of the Federal Government but EPA regulations in no way require the elimination of contaminants. The EPA only sets minimum levels of contaminants (including chlorine) and the long term effects of these poisons on the human body are largely unknown. In addition chlorine adds unpleasant odors and taste to tap water.

    Well Water:

Well water is subject to the same types of natural and man made pollution as tap water but it is unregulated. The Commonwealth of Virginia, for example, strongly recommends chlorination and dechlorination of owner's individual wells but mandatory compliance is not required. Well water is particularly subject to ground bacteria pollution through the wellhead itself. The use of chlorine adds unpleasant odors and taste to the well supplied drinking water.

    Bottled Water:

    Repackaged bottled water:

There are many types of bottled drinking water on the market today with the result that some are good, some are bad and some are useless when it comes to providing pure drinking water.

Some unethical suppliers merely take tap water and bottle the water in small packages. These bottlers are able to charge a premium for tap water but the levels of contaminants are the same as in tap water.

    Spring water:

The source of some bottled water is spring water and this term implies a fresh mountain spring of wholesome drinking water. Springs however, are subject to the same types and levels of natural and man made contaminants as tap and well water and the consumer does not get the benefit of pure water.

    Purified water:

Purified water is the only water that that one should drink for their health and the health of their family. There are two processes used in order to purify water: distillation and reverse osmosis.

Distillation is a process whereby water is turned to steam and condensed leaving behind all contaminants and bacteria. Many countries without natural source water and the Department of Defense use distillation to provide pure drinking water.

Reverse osmosis is a process where by water is filtered through a very small filter and contaminants are removed but bacteria and trace elements are left in the water.

Distillation removes the water from the contaminants while reverse osmosis merely filters the water without removing all bacteria and other material.

Many experts believe that distillation is the best way to create pure water.

    Conclusion:

If you are an individual interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle or a parent that is concerned about the health of your family, you should consider adding purified water to your diet.

No other water source provides the purity your body needs.

Many Municipalities condemn bottled water and bottled water suppliers for not undergoing the same scrutiny as tap water but this is hardly the case.

Municipal tap water is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency while bottled water is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration and while some bottled water may contain contaminants and harmful chemicals, purified bottled is 99.9% free of all contaminants. This is especially true for water purified through a distillation/oxygenation process.

But one may ask whether EPA regulation actually protects the consumer? True, the EPA provides oversight and reporting requirements but is so doing, the EPA merely requires municipal water sources to comply with minimum harmful levels of contaminants, chemicals and other poisons (including MTBE and lead) that can prove harmful to the human body.

In addition to the actual water supply, water infrastructure, including water pipes found in homes and industrial uses can add to the level of contamination.

One thing that the EPA does effectively is publish reports from the tests of the nation's municipal water systems. Often, these reports are characterized by glowing ad copy about the purity of the municipal water but a closer inspection yields more accurate information. Although many municipalities comply with EPA standards note the actual amount of contaminants and harmful minerals that exist in municipal water. Visit the EPA web site at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/dwinfo/index.html

As an example, the US Environmental Protection Agency recently released data from its Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), providing information on toxic chemicals used and released in 2005 by utilities, refineries, chemical manufacturers, and other facilities across the nation.

In EPA's mid-Atlantic region, the 2005 TRI data indicates an increase of 1.5 million pounds of on and off site chemical releases compared with 2004 data. A total of 383.3 million pounds of chemicals were released during 2005 to the air, water or landfills by facilities in the mid-Atlantic region, which comprises Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Releases in this same geographic area totaled 381.8 million pounds in 2004. Most of these chemicals eventually end up affecting the municipal water supply.

So the question remains, what is the EPA regulating? Tap water contains contaminants that are harmful and the use of chlorine to kill bacteria, results in foul smelling and tasting water. In addition tap water comes from ground water and springs that are repositories of chemical releases.

Some bottled water (as high as 40%) is merely tap water in plastic bottles and bottled spring water is often subject to the same contaminant pressure as tap water.

If you want a healthy lifestyle for you and your family, try purified water using a distillation/oxygenation process. By drinking purified water you are guaranteed freshness and purity and the first steps toward a healthy lifestyle.

Article Title: The Tea Room Business Plan: Sales, Promotion And Public Relations

As a tea wholesaler, you can have the best tea room with the highest quality products and service but if you don't promote the business properly, your chances of success will be reduced.

The best way to promote the tea room as a value added wholesale business and increase revenue is to develop a plan with a limited number of steps and work the plan with focus sustained effort. Having already developed a profile of the ideal customer in a limited geographic area the plan may take the following steps.

    Sales

Many people are averse to selling because the term sales connotes a high pressure, huckster like effort that results in significant rejection and stress. The core of selling however is identifying those buyers that have a sincere interest in the product/service offered and only require education about the features and benefits of the offering. Selling for tea rooms is more an education and awareness of prospects that are more inclined to visit as they learn more.

Having already identified the characteristics of the ideal customer it is only a matter of product/service education to sell to that customer.

For the tea room owner who is enthusiastic about their tea room and tea in general, it becomes an easy natural experience to explain to a prospect the benefits of their tea room.

After the initial sale encouraging repeat business based on a high level of customer satisfaction will also encourage sales and develop long term customer loyalty. Maintaining a high degree of customer will encourage word of mouth promotion which is perhaps the most powerful influence on the sales process.

    Promotion

Promoting the new tea room business is important but economy considerations are critical. To start, only promote the tea room through channels that either reach prospects directly or indirectly through industries and companies that address a similar customer profile.

Every entrepreneur learns through experience that there is a most efficient way to spend advertising dollars. This can be hit-or-miss for the beginner and very costly. So, once again, learn from the previous mistakes of your competitors. Find out and follow how your most successful competitors advertise and promote their products or services.

Whatever advertising media you decide to use become knowledgeable regarding the do's and don'ts of advertising in that particular medium. For example, if direct mail works best for you, there are books in your library devoted to this subject. They will provide huge insights that can save you from wasting advertising dollars.

Media publicity is free and helps to create a positive image for you business. Newspapers could be interested in writing a feature story about you because of the widespread interest in entrepreneurship and the fact that you are a successful start-up.

Local newspapers, even the free ones, are very effective. Your "press release" must have news value that can be turned into a bit more of a feature story, as opposed to an announcement. This will make it more interesting and relevant to the reader. Editorial space is much more valuable to you than display space…and it's free!

Although there are a myriad of promotional ideas for tea rooms, some examples are:

    • A flyer for health clubs promoting the tea room and the health benefits of loose leaf tea.

    • Attendance at a health fair where it can be shown that tea and pleasant surroundings relive stress and creates and enjoyable moment

    • Participation at a local picnic or 4th of July event.

    • Distribution of flyers or business cards to local health food stores

    • Joining the local Chamber of Commerce and networking at chamber events

    • Joining a networking group like the local flower society or preservation group

One of the most cost effective methods of promoting the tea room business is with a smart, effective web site that promotes the business and can generate revenue through product sales.

    Marketing Collateral

Marketing collateral generally takes the form of printed material that provides information about your tea room business. Marketing collateral can take many forms:

    • Business cards

    • Simple Brochures

    • Special interest articles

    • Simple mailers

    • Menus

    • Other focused messages

Marketing collateral can be expensive so plan carefully and buy wisely. Include quality graphics where possible

    .

Tea Room Tip: Do not purchase any marketing collateral until you are sure about the company name. Changes will be extremely costly and wasteful.

    Mailing lists

Now, before your start your tea room is the right time to begin developing a database of future customers you wish to target. This list can be used for direct mail, invitations and newsletters. Your database could include specific individuals, companies and groups by location. Begin now to:

    • Join the Chamber of Commerce.

    • Collect business cards.

    • Collect names or mailing lists from your church, school, and community groups.

    • Get involved in your industry and community affairs.

    Public Relations

As compared to promotional activities for the products and services of the tea room, public relations activities are longer term and focuses on the tea room business itself. The objective is to create excitement about the business in the community and use that excitement to reach a large number of prospects.

There are many techniques for public relations but the key element involves press releases and articles in local publications that are written in a way to create interest in the company and generate interest from the defined, targeted tea room audience.

    Paid Advertising

There are many types of paid media to deliver your message. A few of the most commonly used are:

    • Print (newspapers, magazines and newsletters)

    • Radio

    • Television, including cable

    • Internet

    • Yellow Pages

    • Direct mail

    • Trade shows

With the exception of a listing in the telephone yellow pages and very focused advertisements in local distribution news papers, mass market advertising should be avoided. The cost is high and the ad will not reach the intended segment of the market. It is a good idea to, with the exception of a modest yellow page ad; avoid extensive paid advertising until the business is stabilized from a cash flow perspective.

Tea Room Tip: A tea room does not require expensive, paid mass advertising. Promoting smarter rather than harder will pay dividends.
