End tables are not only wonderful accent pieces that can really serve to finish up a room nicely, but they are also very functional objects that will serve an obvious purpose. Everyone likes to have a handy place to set a glass or a book they might be reading. Also table lamps need a table to sit on, so end tables provide the perfect spot for all of these things. End tables should serve to accent the furniture and décor you currently have, so they should not look out of place, no matter how much you like the tables. You really do not want to draw attention to the tables because they are meant to serve a purpose without sticking out like a sore thumb. Here are some quick tips of things to keep in mind while shopping for end tables.

    Design

One of the first things most people consider when looking for end tables is the design. First, shoppers should make sure that it will match with the rest of the furniture. Try to match types and colors of wood with any other furniture in the room. Also if there are any other general design elements or colors, match those with patterns of the furniture you already have.

Another important aspect of the design is the function of the table. People who are avid readers or who always like to have magazines or books nearby will want to consider buying end tables that have a magazine rack or shelf for placing books or magazines. Some tables also have a cabinet underneath, which can be used to store almost anything, including magazines, games, or other random things that should be tucked away right before company comes over.

    Materials

The type of material that the tables are made out of is also important. Metal, wood, glass, wicker, and stone are all very popular materials, and they may be used in many different combinations. All of the materials that are typically used in these kinds of tables are very durable, and choosing a material is often tied into the style that you are looking for.

    Size

Probably the number one feature that should be considered and is often forgotten about is the size. Make sure you measure the space before you go shopping. Looking at tables online is especially helpful when dealing with size because the measurements of each table are clearly marked on the website. Also it is very easy to go to the place in your home where the table will be used and measure another angle if the need arises. If the tables will go on both sides of a couch or sofa, make sure that there is enough room for both of them to fit in the space you have. Try to avoid getting tables that are so big they will overcrowd the rest of the furniture. Also remember to measure the height of your couch up to the top of the arms. If the table will go next to a chair, then measure up to the top of the arms of the chair. This will allow you to visualize where the height of the table you are considering will measure up to these pieces of furniture.

    Saving Money

Of course everyone likes to save money, and buying online gets rid of many of the aspects of the buying experience which drive up the price of the table. Without sales people or a separate store to take care of, companies save a lot of money, and they will pass that savings on to people who buy online.

When choosing a towel bar, form and function are the most important aspects that should be considered. Home owners want one that not only works very well, but also goes great with their décor. In fact, the hardware pieces like a towel bar should be considered the jewelry of the room. They add accents and beauty, completing a look to make it look totally put together and polished. Let's take a look at some of the most important considerations that should be taken into account when choosing a towel bar.

    Style

Since the towel bar and other accent features are like the bathroom's jewelry, style is certainly very important. Spend some time thinking about what kind of overall style you want to convey. Some home owners are aiming for a country bathroom with white cabinets and pastel colors. Others want a very modern room with sleek hardware and granite countertops. It is very important to design the entire room and leave the hardware for last because it is simply meant to be an accent piece. The only way anyone can know for sure what kind of towel bar they want is by looking at the end product and seeing what it will look like. The color of the paint on the walls and the style, design, and shade of the cabinets all play important roles in what kind of hardware you will want to go with it. Also try to get pieces that match. The bars should match the toilet paper holder, the pulls on the drawers and cabinets, and if possible, the mirror or medicine cabinet that is being used in the room.

    Function

Above all, remember that the hardware is meant to play an important part in the overall finished look of the bathroom. If it does not work well, then you won't use it, and there will be no point to even having the bar. Think carefully about where in the room you want to place the bar. Measure the space carefully so that you can be sure that the one you buy is not too long or too short for the space you have. Also be sure to position the bar appropriately so that you will easily be able to reach the towels whenever you are getting out of the shower or bath. A bar that is out of reach is not much help to anyone. It may even be a good idea to measure the towels that you intend to use with it to make sure that they will hang straight on the bar. Also consider what kinds of towels you will use regularly. Do not forget to get some kind of hanger for the hand towel that is separate from the one that will be used for the large towels. Also if there is room, having separate large bars for his and her towels is a great touch.

    Material

The type of material the towel bar is made out of is an important part of both its style and its function. Some materials are made to last a very long time, while others simply are not made well enough to last more than a few years. Chrome is very popular right now, probably because of its durability and the clean, sleek look it lends to any décor. Real chrome bars should be very heavy and a lighter silver color. Other very popular choices in material include brushed nickel and pewter, both of which will also be very long lasting. Just beware of pieces that look like they are made of these materials but are actually fakes. They may be a great way to save money, but there is a chance that they will not last a long time.

Buying a towel rack is like adding a new feature to your bathroom. If you are remodeling completely, then it is like putting the finishing touches on a large project, and it should definitely be saved until the very end. After all, you will want to consider the color of paint you chose, along with the style and color of the cabinets. You will also need to make sure that the towel rack matches other fixtures and hardware in the room, like the cabinet pulls, shower curtain rod, and even the mirror or medicine cabinet. Before starting on the adventure of choosing the right piece of hardware for your towels, there are several features that should be taken into consideration.

    Design

A towel rack differs from a towel bar because it may be much more than just a single bar. Often they have some sort of shelving system on top and then a bar or two underneath where towels can hang. Other times a rack might be a unit that sits on the floor rather than attaching to the wall. Overall, a rack tends to have more function to it than a simple bar that hangs on the wall. Just think carefully about how you will be using it and what kinds of towels you intend to hang on it. Also think about what you would use the shelves for, if it does have shelves. Storing extra towels there is ideal, but that is not the only possible use. Just make sure that the design of the rack you select is something that you will find very useful and functional.

    Placement

The next important thing to take into consideration when choosing a towel rack is placement in the bathroom. If you plan to hang it on the wall, measure and mark the placements of the studs in the wall and use them to your advantage. Racks can be very heavy because they are much more than a simple bar, so you especially might need to hang them on studs rather than just anywhere in the wall. Measuring the space you have to put the rack in is also very important so that you can make sure that the area is large enough for the one you want. You should avoid getting a towel rack that is too small for the space too. If necessary, purchase two racks to take up all of the space. Depending on the design, this might be a great way to have room for both his and her towels. Just remember that if the rack already has room for two large towels, having two of them in the space may be redundant. Think instead about filling the extra space with some other type of decoration.

    Material

It is also very important to think about what kind of material the rack should be made out of. Chrome is extremely popular, because of its extreme durability and because of the clean look it lends to any space. Bathrooms are meant to look especially clean, and polished chrome can help your bathroom really shine and look as clean as possible. Polished nickel is also very popular because it is durable and because it adds a little bit more class to a space than chrome does. Just remember to match the color of the hardware with the rest of the room, and then selecting the best material will usually fall right into place. Don't feel like you are limited to silver tones because some hardware can have a yellow or black finish and still be made of these very favorable materials.

An indoor bench is a great way to add style, class, and even secret storage room to any space. An indoor bench can say anything you want to say about a room. It can be contemporary, modern, classic, or antique. The most important thing about any piece of furniture in your home is that it shares a little piece of your personality, and a bench is no different. Here are some tips to keep in mind when purchasing an indoor bench.

    Type of Wood

Most indoor benches are wood, or they have at least some wood in them. The first thing to think about when selecting a bench is the type and color of the wood you already have in your home. If the bench will go in a room where you have other furniture, try to match the wood of the bench with the other pieces. If it will go in an entryway or hallway, then think about what other things are around them. You can match an indoor bench to kitchen cabinets or bathroom cabinets, wood trim, or just about anything else in your home. You just don't want the bench to look out of place.

Another important consideration when thinking about type of wood is durability. Solid wood benches will last a lot longer and take a lot more abuse than benches that are made of MDF, or medium density fiberboard. If you aren't sure whether the bench is sold wood or MDF, then just try to pick it up and see how heavy it is. A solid wood bench will be a lot heavier than one made of MDF.

    Use

Another important consideration to make when choosing an indoor bench is what kind of use it will see. A great way to add additional storage in any room is to add a storage bench. This type of bench is typically a large wooden case with a seat on top of it. There may even be a back on the bench, although most people will not realize that there is storage underneath the bench.

If storage is not what you had in mind by purchasing an indoor bench, then think about what other kind of use it will be for. If the bench is for people who are removing their shoes at the door, then you may want a smaller bench that will fit in the entryway. Just remember to measure the amount of space that is available before setting out to select the right bench.

    Accessories

While a bench is an accessory in itself, sometimes you may also wish to liven up the space even more with some accessories. Soft cushions or pillows can add some additional color to a bench, and they can make any bench become comfortable. If you are positive that you want to incorporate specific colors into the bench, then there is a very good chance that you will need to purchase cushions and pillows for it. Just remember that cushions and pillows are a great way to add even more personality to a bench.

Another accessory you also might want to consider is a footstool. However, remember that adding a footstool will take up quite a bit of space, so only consider doing it if you have plenty of extra space. Measuring is even more important when you are considering getting a footstool because of the extra space that is involved. Just remember not to purchase so much furniture that your home looks cluttered. If there is any doubt in your mind about whether the bench will add unnecessary clutter, then think about other ways to decorate.

The very first thing that should be taken into consideration is the size of the table. Kitchen tables come in every size imaginable, from the very small table that only seats two, up to a large dining table that seats twelve. It is pretty unusual to see a large table that seats twelve without a separate dining room, but it is certainly a possibility if you have the space.

When measuring to see what size kitchen tables you should be looking at, there are several dimensions that should be taken into account. These dimensions will also help you figure out which shape of table will be best for your particular kitchen. First start by measuring any wall space you have to put the table against. Many kitchens do not have any wall space for a table, so this step may not be needed. Next measure the entire room, length and width. Using those measurements, mark off the necessary space that you actually need to be able to walk around the kitchen freely. Imagine what the room will look like if there is a table right in the middle of it. Think about whether this will disrupt your workflow of cooking and how small it needs to be in order to not get in the way. Once you are armed with these measurements, then it is time to hop online and start looking at pictures.

    Style

The dimensions of the table will limit you to only certain tables, so starting off with those will give you a real expectation of what you will be able to buy for the space you have. Next it is time to start looking at style. Looking at pictures online will really give you an idea for the style you want because you can easily see how hundreds of different kitchen tables look in just a few minutes. This is definitely the fastest way to find what you are looking for, and you might even find a deal along the way.

Once you have your selection narrowed down to a few different tables, then it is time to consider what style your kitchen is and how the tables you are considering will look inside that décor. Matching the color and wood of the cabinets is a great way to get a clue about what kind of style you will need for your décor. For example, a country kitchen with white cabinets pretty much needs a white table. A more modern kitchen will probably look great with black or dark wood. Glass or marble also make very elegant choices for a contemporary kitchen.

Console tables are a wonderful addition to any decor. They are perfect for providing a small surface or bit of storage in an entryway or hallway or even just filling up space on a section of wall that does not have anything. Console tables can be made of many different materials, including wood, metal, glass, and stone. Of course selecting the best one for your home is entirely a matter of opinion, but there are some things that should be kept in mind as you shop.

    Style and Design

The first thing you should keep in mind when shopping for console tables is the style and design of the table. Look for a table that matches with the rest of your decor, even if it is in an entryway or hallway where there is no other furniture. You can look to the style and color of your trim for some ideas or think about what kind of table you would buy if it were going in an adjoining room that is full of furniture.

The design is also very important because of what you intend to use it for. Some people want very simple console tables that do not have any shelves or drawers in them. They may have only one surface area on top to set things on. These kinds of tables are typically decorative in nature, although they may be used to place small things on, like the day's mail. Just make sure that you do not need any actual storage in the table if you are considering getting one that does not have drawers or shelves. If you purchase one with shelves, you might even consider getting some baskets that slide right into those shelves. The baskets can be used for all sorts of things, like knitting or stashing away some small children's toys. They are wonderful because you can pull them out and take them with you to another part of the house while still enjoying the ability to hide things in them when company comes over.

    Size

Measuring the amount of space where you intend to put the table is also very important. You may find that you are looking at console tables of a particular style, but size will definitely be the deciding factor. Make sure the measure the amount of wall space you will be using and the amount of width that can be allowed for the console tables. Remember that a table which is too wide will stick out too far into the walkway and be responsible for many bumped hips and elbows. An oversized piece of furniture will create problems walking through, simply not fit, or look completely out of place. There are plenty of different sizes available in these tables so anyone should have no problem finding the perfect one.

    Material

The last thing on the list of items to think about when looking for the perfect console table is the material it is made out of. This can go along with the design of the piece, but knowing what makes for high quality material is also important. Reading the descriptions of online purchases carefully will tell you what the table is made out of so that you can find the material that will best match your decor. Shopping online is a great way to save money on a quality piece of furniture. It allows you to buy direct from companies so that you cut out some of the overhead that is involved with buying in a store. Remember that when a company saves money on furniture, that savings is passed along to shoppers.

Buying any piece of furniture for your home is a big decision and a major purchase, and sideboards are no different. Sideboards are used in the dining room as a sort of side table or cabinet. Some of them can be used to store fine china or silverware, while others are meant to hold cloth napkins, tablecloths, and placements. Some sideboards may even be large enough to hold all of these items. Sideboards are the perfect answer to a dining room that looks otherwise bare and needs some type of storage for all of these little extra items. Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping for sideboards.

    Size

Most people forget to think about size when they are looking for any kind of furniture, but it is extremely important. The size of the sideboards may not seem to be essential because usually the only other piece of furniture in the room is the dining room table. However, sideboards that stick out from the wall too far can be damaged by people pulling chairs out from the table. They can also make it very difficult to walk through the room, especially when there are people seated around the table. Also a sideboard that is too long from the room simply won't fit, so it is easy to see why size certainly does matter in this case.

    Style

The next thing to think about when looking for a good sideboard is the style. In some cases, a dining room table set may have an optional sideboard that can be purchased with it at a discount, but not all sets have one available. If you have to look for one that does not come with your dining room set, try to match the color of the wood and any moldings or carvings that your table and chairs have. By matching these two features, it should be very easy to figure out what kind of style you are looking for.

    Use

As already mentioned, sideboards can be used to store many different things, and sometimes it is simply a space filler that is meant to hold decorative items. Having an idea about how you want to use the furniture is very important because of all the various types of storage that are offered. A combination of drawers and cabinets is usually what is included, but there are other pieces that may have only one of these two methods. Others might have shelves, with or without baskets. The arrangement of the storage spaces can make it easier or more difficult to store certain times of things in it. If this cabinet is going to be a place for the fine china, then make sure that it has special storage abilities for that.

Most dining room cabinets are made of wood, which is sure to make them last a very long time. Some of them even have a hutch available, which can sit on top of the cabinet and provide even more storage space or a place to put those fragile knickknacks. No matter what kind of cabinet you choose, having it in your dining room will definitely enhance the overall look of the room and create a place to store all of those little dining extras that you just do not have room for in the kitchen. Buying any piece of furniture is a large investment, and some people do not think to shop online. However, you can save quite a bit of time and money by looking at pictures on the Internet and ordering from an online company.

Purchasing new dining furniture can certainly be a lot of fun. Of course there are the usual pieces of dining furniture you would expect, like a dining room table and dining room chairs. However, there are also some additional pieces that you might wish to consider if you have the room for them. Let's take a closer look at all of the various types of dining furniture, both essential and non-essential.

    Dining Room Tables and Chairs

Of course the centerpiece of any dining room is the table and chairs. As with other kinds of furniture, there are also many different kinds of dining room tables and chairs available. Some tables are the natural height for a table, while others are a bit taller and come with taller chairs that are almost the height of barstools. These taller tables are known as counter-height tables, and some people prefer the taller height. It all just depends on what your personal preference is.

Whenever you are choosing the right dining table, just remember to look for a solid wood table. Avoid tables that are made of MDF, or medium density fiberboard. These tables have very soft surfaces that can chip easily, and the finish will likely come off very easily as well. The type of solid wood the table is made out of doesn't really matter. Most woods are all very similar in hardness, so the only real difference is in the color of the wood you choose. If the dining room is not separated from the kitchen at all, then you might consider purchasing a dining table that matches your kitchen cabinets.

    Hutches

One very common but optional piece of dining furniture is a hutch. Many people purchase a hutch to store all of those little extra items that they just do not know where else to stash. Some hutches are also china cabinets, and they provide a great place to display glassware or fancy china. Some dining tables can actually be purchased with a matching hutch, and often it is easier to save money all of the pieces by purchasing them together. Also purchasing a hutch as part of a set is one way to ensure that it matches with the other pieces of dining furniture.

    Selecting Quality Dining Furniture

No matter which pieces of dining furniture you are considering, there are a few different things to keep in mind while shopping. First of all, it is very important to get the chance to feel the furniture in a retail store before purchasing it. Sometimes shopping online can save a lot of money, but it is very hard to judge quality without seeing the furniture in person. If you do decide to purchase online, make sure that you check out the brand name and exact piece of furniture in a store first. Watch out for online replicas of brand name pieces as they may not be as high quality as the brand name items.

Another important aspect of purchasing quality furniture is the joints. With all pieces of dining furniture, always make sure that the joints are secure. It does not hurt to ask the sales person about how the furniture is constructed. A good salesperson will be able to tell you exactly how the furniture joints are connected. Always look for furniture with dowels or other methods of joining the pieces together without just having two flat pieces of wood put together. There should be internal pieces also holding the other pieces together. This ensure that the joints are very secure and will last a very long time.

Whether you are replacing your kitchen cabinets or not, new kitchen drawer pulls are a great way to change up the look of your kitchen without spending a lot of money. Kitchen drawer pulls can take just about any shape, color, or style you can think of, and they do not take a lot of time to install. However, selecting the right kitchen drawer pulls does involve making many decisions. You have to think about the style of the hardware compared to the style of the drawers. Then you have to think about the weight and size of the drawers to determine what size pulls you need. You also have to consider the various materials that kitchen drawer pulls are made out of. With all of these decisions, how can you know which drawer pulls will look best in your kitchen? Here are some tips to figuring it all out.

    Hardware Style

Style is one of the most obvious things when it comes to décor of any kind. The way the hardware looks in the drawers it will go on is certainly very important. It should match the rest of the kitchen and complete the look, much like earrings or a necklace completes your personal look. Kitchen drawer pulls are like the finishing touches on a beautiful kitchen, and they can enhance the beauty of the kitchen if they are selected properly or look glaring and out of place if the wrong decision is made. When considering style, just think about the overall style of the kitchen. If you decided on an antique look, then antique drawer pulls are the answer, but if you have a very modern or contemporary look, then you will need something much more sleek and newer.

Another part of choosing a style is the kind of kitchen drawer pull you select. Drawer pulls can either be knobs or handles, depending on which style you prefer. You may even want to take into consideration which of the two types feels better in your hand.

    Materials

Another important option that is related to style is the material. Metal kitchen drawer pulls are the most popular right now, but many people opt instead of glass or plastic pulls. Metal pulls will last quite a bit longer than glass or plastic, although they are quite expensive and can be a bit limited in terms of color. However, what metal pulls lack in color, they make up for in the ability to have very ornate carvings and designs. Glass pulls have the benefit of offering a wide selection of colors and very intricate designs. In fact, people who really want a unique type of hardware for their kitchen or bathroom will probably want to opt for glass because of the many choices that are available. Plastic drawer pulls are the least expensive option, and they may offer many different colors and designs also, but often they are very cheap and do not last a long time. Be prepared to change the hardware out again in a couple of years if you opt for low grade plastic. More durable and expensive plastic may last longer than a couple of years.

    Drawer Size

Finally, remember to take into account the size of the drawers. This part has two sides to it. First, think about the overall size of the pull and the size of the drawer face. The pull should be proportional to the front of the drawer. Second, think about how heavy the drawer is and how easy or difficult it is to pull out. Kitchen drawer pulls that are too small will not work well with very heavy or large drawers.

Indoor benches are the perfect way to add a little extra seating in your home, especially in places where there is not much other furniture at all. Indoor benches can be great pieces of furniture to place by the door where people take their shoes off, or in a hallway or entryway where some type of furniture is needed but you aren't sure what. Some benches are also wonderful seating solutions for bedrooms or almost anywhere else in the house. There are so many different styles and colors available these days that anyone can find the bench that suits their purposes without any trouble. Here are some ideas that should be kept in mind while shopping for indoor benches.

    Style

The nice thing about indoor benches is the fact that sometimes the style does not always need to match the rest of the house. Of course if a bench is needed in a bedroom or other specific room of the home, then it should definitely match the other furniture in the room. However, having an unusual bench in one part of the home like an entryway or hallway does not look that strange. Of course when in doubt, always try to match the style in the rest of your home, but don't be discouraged if you find a truly unique bench that you love but that doesn't fit with anything else. You may be able to incorporate it somehow.

Another element of style involves the use of the bench. Some benches are just places to sit, while others have storage areas tucked underneath the seats. Others are very tall and may even have coat hooks on the top of them. Some benches may have a separate piece with coat hooks that hangs on the wall above the bench. Thinking about what you intend to use the bench for can be an important part of selecting the appropriate style. If you are looking at indoor benches that are just places to sit, then make sure that you are absolutely certain that you do not need any storage space. Remember to also take into consideration which room of the house it will be in when you are thinking about the type of use it is needed for.

    Size

It is always very important to measure the available space before you purchase any furniture, and indoor benches are no different. Even if the bench is meant to fill up a space where there is no other furniture, remember that you have to account for room to walk. If the bench will be used in an entryway, measuring will help insure that it fits while still leaving room for the door to open all the way and for people to be able to sit on it while still allowing for others to walk by without any feeling of tightness in the space. Remember that a bench is meant to provide a place to sit without the feeling that it is just in the way.

    Materials and Comfort

Shoppers should also think about what kinds of materials they want to look for in a bench. Wood and metal are probably the two most common materials used, and they can say a lot about the style of the piece. The type of materials also plays directly into the comfort offered by the bench. If it is just a place for people to sit a few moments at a time to take their shoes off, then comfort is less of a concern. However, if you plan to spend quite a bit of time sitting on it, then you might want to look for one with a padded seat or cushions to go on top of it.

Patio chairs are a wonderful way to add comfort and versatility to any outdoor space. They can be as simple or as elegant as you wish, and they can fill a lot of different functions. You might wish to have a table and chairs to serve meals to your family out on the back deck, or you might just be looking for a couple of patio chairs to sit out and enjoy the sunlight with your spouse. Having a great chair that allows you to enjoy the backyard is definitely the first step toward creating a space that you will be able to enjoy for many years to come. No matter what kind of use you intend to purchase patio chairs for, there are some important things to keep in mind before you go shopping.

    Function

The very first thing that should be considered is exactly what kind of function you will need the chairs for. If you intend for them to be used during meal times, then it makes perfect sense to purchase chairs that match the table you are planning to buy. Of course even within this set of parameters, there are even some things to think about. It is important to find chairs that will be comfortable enough for you to relax in, yet still provide you with a way to sit up and eat. If the function of your patio chairs will be a bit more open ended, then you may want to look for a chair that will have several different possibilities for use.

    Material

The type of material that will be best for patio chairs can vary widely, and the type of material that will be best for you depends on what kind of use you need it for. Also people who intend to leave the patio chairs out in the elements all of the time will need a more durable material like metal or certain types of wood that withstand all of the wind, rain, and snow that they will see. On the other hand, people who plan to use the chairs in a covered structure like a screened-in porch might prefer something that is a little bit closer to indoor furniture since it will not have to live through all of the elements. Material can also include cushions if the chairs use any. Not everyone likes to have cushions because they can slide around or even blow away if they are left outside during a storm. Some chairs have a built-in padded area in the seat, but this is not always comfortable for everyone, so it is important to think about what kinds of chairs you like and what sorts of things contribute heavily to your own personal comfort.

    Style

It is also very important to think about style. Some people pick out some chairs for their outdoor space without considering what kind of style they are already using in their backyard. Areas with a pool may look better with certain types of chairs, and the style that is set forth in the design of a deck can also lend itself to some specific chairs. When in doubt, try to find chairs that match the back porch or deck. It also will help a lot to measure the space you have available. Chairs that are extremely large or clunky will take up quite a bit of space, so you will want to take this into consideration so that you do not buy more chairs than what you actually have room to use comfortably. Remember to also allow space to walk between the chairs and around any tables you want to get.

Every outdoor space is about fun in the sun, but having a little bit of shade from the sun in the form of patio umbrellas is very important. There are so many different kinds of patio umbrellas that anyone can find a form and style that suits them perfectly. Some umbrellas are smaller and meant for just one or two chairs, while others are very large and can cover an entire deck. Still others fit right onto tables so that they provide some shade while eating. There certainly is a wide variety of patio umbrellas to choose from, so here are some important things to keep in mind when trying to pick out the perfect one for your outdoor space.

    Size

Probably the most important thing to take into consideration when looking at patio umbrellas is size. You should always measure the space you have so that you know what you can work with. Think of the area both in a circular shape and in a square shape because there are patio umbrellas that will work well with both types of space. In fact, measuring the length and width of the space may even help you determine what shape of umbrella will work the best. Just remember that you might need to be a bit flexible on whether you want one large umbrella for the whole area or a few smaller ones to place at key points in the space.

    Design

It is also very important to think about what kind of design you are looking for. Of course patio umbrellas always need a stand, so think about how it will stand up and shade your deck or patio area. In many cases you will be able to work it out so that the stand is not necessarily conspicuous. You might think about putting it between two chairs, much like a floor lamp. You should also think about whether you want a traditional umbrella that opens up or if you prefer a stand that dangles a shade over your head. Each of these has a very different design and results in a different placement for the stand. A traditional umbrella will require the stand to be right in the center of the shaded area, while the kind that dangles a shade overhead typically is off to the side of the shade a bit. Some umbrellas are designed to have adjustable angles, while others only open straight up, so take a look at the different features in this aspect also. Remember that if you are looking for an umbrella to go over your table, it is best to go with one that matches your table and is from the same manufacturer if possible. If this is not an option, then make sure the measure the table and figure out how heavy of an umbrella it will be able to support.

    Material

Another thing you should think about ahead of time is what kind of material the umbrella will be made out of. Not all materials are completely waterproof because many of these umbrellas are made only to shade you from the sun, so remember to think about whether it will be left out in the rain frequently. The material that the pole is made out of is important too, especially if you live in a windy area where the umbrella will have to stand up to a lot of buffeting. Metal and wood are both good options for poles, but beware of flimsy metal umbrellas with frames that turn inside out. Just spend some time looking at the construction of the frame and comparing it to other umbrellas of the same type.

Adding teak patio furniture to your backyard is a great way to add a table and chairs that are sure to last a very long time. There are many different styles of teak patio furniture and a couple of different shades that are available. The style you choose should say a lot about your personality and also provide plenty of comfort for you and your guests to relax while enjoying your outdoor space. Teak patio furniture is a very major purchase, so it is important to understand a bit about this type of wood before you make this type of investment.

    Color

There are three different ways people choose to keep their teak patio furniture. Probably the most popular method is to allow it to age so that it has a beautiful grey weathered look. The reason so many people prefer to allow it to grey is because it is much easier to take care of. Teak patio furniture that has been allowed to turn grey is just as durable and long lasting as teak pieces that are kept in their original color, but they require very little care. Teak patio furniture is naturally resistant to insects, moisture, and just about any other problems that can damage wood, so it is a wonderful choice when it comes to patio furniture. The grey color of the teak is simply a matter of choice, and a lot of people even prefer grey teak.

The second choice in caring for teak patio furniture is to oil it and sand it regularly in order to keep the original teak color. Oiling can lengthen the amount of time needed in between each sanding, but it will always be necessary to sand off the grey layer of teak after several months. Most homeowners can get away with sanding their teak patio furniture about once per year. However, this method can be very time consuming, so you should be positive that it is what you want.

The third choice in teak patio furniture is to stain it. Some sets can even be purchased already stained, so it does not hurt to ask and find out what kind of wood the sets are made out of. Teak is a very versatile would that can take on any color that is applied to it. Just remember that if you do choose to either purchase stained teak furniture or stain the pieces yourself, it is rather difficult to get the stain off. It will take several sandings in order to restore the original color of the teak wood. No matter which of the three ways you decide to keep your teak furniture, you can be sure that it will last for a very long time.

    Style

One of the best things about teak furniture is the fact that it can evoke any style you want it to. The chairs can be smaller and have several slats in them, or they can be larger and have huge cushions which make the area feel very homey and relaxing. Some sets have a table and chairs, while others have a couch, chairs, and coffee table. There are even some bar sets that come with a bar and barstools. There are also benches and deck chairs. Pretty much anyone who is interested in teak furniture can easily find what they need.

Teak is such a versatile wood that it will always be a great investment. Its natural ability to resist almost any kind of decay makes it a bargain for any home owner who wants to find some outdoor furniture that is sure to last a very long time.

Choosing new drawer hardware is a great way to freshen up your kitchen or bathroom. There are so many different kinds and styles of drawer hardware that the choice can seem like a large one. You have to think about the style your cabinets have and how they fit in with the appliances or other fixtures in the room. Then quality and durability are also important issues, as are color and material of the drawer hardware. Also the size of the drawers is extremely important because even good quality hardware can be damaged by drawers that are too big for it. Here are some ideas to help you in your search for new drawer hardware.

    Drawer Sizes

Of course people do have different sizes of drawers in their kitchens and bathrooms, and it is important to take the size of the drawer into account when selecting drawer hardware. Take the time to measure the drawers before you go shopping for hardware. Also feel how heavy the drawer is and how easy or hard it is to pull out. All of these will need to be taken into account when selecting drawer hardware. Each piece of hardware is made to pull a set amount of weight frequently, but having drawers that are heavier than the appropriate weight for the pull will cause the screws to strip and the knobs or handles to fall right off. Also purchasing the best screws for the job is important for the same reason. Heavy duty screws are needed for drawers that are very heavy or difficult to pull out.

Also the size of the drawer's face is also important for stylistic purposes. You should think about how big the knob or handle is and how it will look against the size of the drawer face.

    Types of Drawer Hardware

It is also important to understand the types of drawer hardware. There are two basic kinds of hardware for drawers. Handles and knobs both offer different looks and different ways of opening the drawer. Try a few different handles and knobs to see which kind fits in your hand better. Also remember that sometimes certain handles or knobs will not work as well as other handles or knobs. It all depends on the size of your hand, your reaching abilities, and whether or not you have arthritis or other hand problems.

    Materials

Drawer hardware is available in several different kinds of materials. Currently metal is the most common material, and there are many different kinds of metal available. Some common choices include nickel, bronze, brass, and pewter, although there are certainly more choices than just those few kinds. Usually the type of metal you choose depends entirely on the color you want. Think about how each color will look against the color of the cabinets when making a decision.

In addition to metal, there are also a few other choices when it comes to materials. Glass drawer pulls are certainly making a comeback, probably because of the wide variety of choices in colors and styles. Hardware manufacturers are able to make many different variations with glass rather than metal because they have a much wider palate of color to work with. While metal hardware may be very ornate, it typically will not be very colorful.

    Style

Style is also very important when choosing new hardware for your drawers. Style can be as simple as how the hardware looks on the drawer or as complicated as how it feels in your hand. It is a very good idea to take samples of several pieces of hardware home so that you can place them up against the drawers and see how they look.

Drawer handles can come in many different shapes and sizes. There are also many different materials and styles available. In fact, there are so many choices when it comes to selecting handles that the decision can seem like a major one. However, understanding a little bit about all of the aspects of choosing drawer handles can really help you make an informed and high quality decision.

    Shapes and Sizes

One of the first things you will notice while shopping for handles is all of the different shapes and sizes that are available. Choosing the right shape for your drawers is certainly an important part of size and style. Think about whether you prefer wavy lines or straight. Also consider whether you want to see intricate carvings on the drawer handles or whether you prefer something very simple. Another thing to think about is whether you want knobs or actual handles. Both types of drawer handles provide their own unique attributes, and selecting which one you prefer is a simple matter of taste and preference. The shape should be one that matches the overall theme in the kitchen or bath, and it should be the perfect size for the drawer. It should also be one that is very easy to grab onto.

Also the distance between the holes is extremely important because some drawers have holes for the hardware already drilled. If this is the case, then it is very important that you measure the distance between those two holes. Make sure that you limit yourself only to hardware that has the proper distance between the holes. Other choices would be to choose a knob, which often has just one hole.

    Materials and Styles

There are also many different materials available. Metal is probably the most popular material used in drawer handles. Some common metals include brass, nickel, and bronze. If you decide to purchase metal drawer handles, then take into account any metal allergies anyone in your family might have. Other than that, there is really no difference in durability among the different kinds of metal.

Other materials include stone, which is increasing in popularity, despite its very high price. Many people appreciate stone hardware because it matches their granite counter tops. Glass is also becoming more and more popular as a material simply because so many people like that wider selection of colors that are available.

Of course the type of material you choose for your drawer handles plays right into the style. Metal handles tend to be very sleek, while glass drawer handles are fun and festive. Plastic handles are very inexpensive and available in many different colors, although the durability is a problem with some of the very cheap ones.

    Quality

Quality is always an issue when making a purchase, and judging quality of handles can be a little difficult unless you know what to look for. First, feel the weight of the handle in your hand. It should feel very heavy, especially if it is made of metal or stone. High quality metal and stone both weigh quite a bit, so the weight of the items makes a major difference in the quality. Next, examine how the pieces are attached and how they will attach to the drawer. Look at the joints and determine if they look and feel secure. Drawer handles that feel like they will fall apart probably will. Also look for name brands in various hardware manufacturers. Names like Amerock or Top Knobs have been around for a very long time, and customers have written plenty of reviews about these manufacturers.

There are many choices when it comes to coffee tables these days, so how can anyone know if they are purchasing a good quality piece of furniture? Of course it's all about selection, but there are some important things any shopper should know before setting out to purchase coffee tables.

    Shopping Online

Purchasing coffee tables online is definitely a great way to save money. It gives shoppers a chance to purchase directly from the manufacturer or supplier, which certainly does cut out a lot of overhead. Also looking at websites will allow you to see hundreds more selections than you would be able to see if you were shopping in retail stores alone. It is much faster to browse an online catalog rather than visit several different stores. Just be sure to read the descriptions of each table very carefully. Here are some important things to look for when looking for tables online.

Look for Solid Wood or Heavy Metal

When you do start shopping around in local stores, the next thing to look for in coffee tables is solid wood. A solid wood table will be much heavier than a ready to assemble table. Also solid wood will be very sturdy and last forever. Some stores even allow the salesmen to jump on the kitchen chairs to show how sturdy they are. If you don't think the coffee table will survive someone climbing on it, then it probably isn't solid wood. When selecting a table that is all metal or has a metal frame, remember that weight also indicates good construction of a metal piece. Heavier metal weighs more, so a light metal table used light, cheap metal in the construction.

    Solid Construction

Whether or not you are searching for wood coffee tables, there are a few things to look for in the area of solid construction. The best way to tell if these coffee tables are solidly constructed is to look carefully at the joints. In cases where glue is used, the joints should be so tight that no glue is showing. If the table is wood, then a sign of a cheap piece of furniture is how the joints are constructed. If the table and legs are joined with flat edges and just glued or screwed on, then this is a bad sign. Instead, look for joints that involve dowels or a tongue and groove joint. Basically, if there is a dowel that goes inside of each of the two pieces that are being connected, then it is a good joint. Also if one of the pieces of wood has teeth on the edge and the teeth are inserted into the other piece of wood, then this is also a good joint. Just avoid coffee tables with flat pieces that are glued together. Those joints will not last.

For metal coffee tables, also be sure to look carefully at the joints where one piece of metal is joined with another. Metal joints will require a much closer look than wood joints, but it is possible to tell if the furniture is well constructed. Good quality joints are placed in a way that they cannot be seen, so you may have to search them. Also look for welded joints over riveted, screwed, or bolted joints, which can come loose over time. When looking at the welded joints, press your fingers into them to see how well the weld is holding. A weak weld will also come loose over time. A table with several welds holding it together in very inconspicuous places will probably last a very long time.

Kitchen islands are a great way to add counter space, storage space, and a very open feel to any kitchen. Often these islands are used to create a very open living space where the kitchen opens right into the family or living room. Kitchen islands have been around for many years, and they provide many new features that make them even more versatile than they were in the past. Here's a look at some of the most common types of kitchen islands.

    Granite Countertop

One of the most common types of islands is the granite countertop. This is basically another kitchen workspace that matches the other counters in the kitchen. Granite is very stylish because it adds a certain level of elegances that cannot be found anywhere else. It is important to find out the necessary steps that you will need to take to care for a granite island. Some of them do require a granite sealer to be reapplied from time to time, so ask the retailer or installer what the best way to care for your granite island is. Care instructions may vary from island to island.

    Butcher Block or Wood

Many kitchens are now seeing the installation of butcher block or wood kitchen islands. Kitchen islands with a butcher block top are meant to provide a cutting surface without a cutting board. Butcher blocks are probably the best cutting surfaces available on the market these days. A wood-topped island is also a good option if you do not want to go with a butcher block. However, remember that some woods are not meant to serve as cutting boards. If you are looking for a cutting surface that does not quite go to the lengths of a butcher block, then make sure that the wood you select is safe to cut foods on. Caring for both butcher block kitchen islands and wood-topped islands is about the same. Both should be cleaned immediately after use because these materials will soak up everything. Most manufacturers recommend a mild dish soap and warm water for regular cleaning. Mild bleach and water can also serve to disinfect the surface. Also most manufacturers will recommend a special oil to be applied to the surface every so often. The oil should be food-safe and non-toxic.

    Stainless Steel

Another very common type of kitchen island that is in use today is the stainless steel island. Of course many of us picture commercial kitchens when thinking about a stainless steel island, but more and more homeowners now prefer a very professional type of kitchen. Stainless steel islands are a big part of that. Just remember that stainless steel is not good for knives, so always use a cutting board on top of your stainless steel island. Cleaning stainless steel is also very simple. Just use a sponge and a mild cleaner. Remember that stainless steel can be scratched rather easily, so avoid anything that could scratch it.

Match the Style of Your Kitchen

No matter what kind of kitchen island you choose, just remember that the style should always match the rest of your kitchen. For example, a very modern kitchen with professional-grade appliances would probably work best with either a butcher block island or a stainless steel island. A standard home kitchen that already has granite countertops would definitely work best with a granite island. Wood-topped islands can be a solution for homeowners who like the look of a butcher block but may not be willing to pay the extra cash for a true butcher block.

Dining room furniture is the centerpiece of any dining room, and selecting the right pieces of furniture is a big job. Having a basic understanding of how to go through the selection process can really help make it a whole lot easier. Here are some very important things to keep in mind whenever you are shopping for dining room furniture.

    Style

One of the first things most people consider when shopping for dining room furniture is style. Remember that the dining room is where the family gathers and the place where company will eat meals with you. Dining room furniture needs to portray part of your personality while still offering a high degree of functionality. There are many different styles of dining room furniture available. Some sets of furniture may offer just a table and chairs, while others may have an optional hutch that can be purchased as well. Just remember that the style of the furniture should show part of your own personality. It can be modern or contemporary, classic or rustic. If you need some clues on what kind of style to consider, take a look around your kitchen. The style of your kitchen cabinets and your appliances can provide important clues about the style of dining room furniture you will be looking for.

    Materials

Most pieces of dining room furniture are made of wood or a material that is very similar to wood. It is very important to look for pieces that are made of solid wood rather than a material like medium density fiberboard. This material is much softer than solid wood and can easily scratch. Also it is much easier for the finish to come off of medium density fiberboard. Most products made from this material are very low quality and will not last for generations like a solid wood table will.

Once you are sure that the pieces you are considering are all solid wood, then it is only a matter of considering which color and kind of wood you prefer. In some cases it does help to match the kind and color of wood to your kitchen cabinets.

    Types of Dining Room Furniture

It is also important to understand the different types of furniture that are available for dining rooms. Of course the table and chairs are the most important part, and many people do not have any dinning furniture except the table and chairs. Tables can either be the standard dining room table height, or they can be a little bit taller, which is known as counter height. These taller tables also come with taller chairs, that are about the height of barstools. Spend some time looking at tables of both heights so that you can easily decide which height of table you prefer.

Also think about how many chairs you might need and the size of table you will need to fit that many chairs. In some cases, you might want to purchase extra chairs and a table that has a leaf or two. A leaf makes the table a little bit larger than it usually is so that there is plenty of room for everyone when family members come over for special occasions.

Another very common type of dining furniture is a hutch. Hutches can be used for storage of extra little random things, or they can be used to display glasses or dishware. Just make sure to measure the space before purchasing any furniture, and especially before purchasing a hutch to add to the room. A hutch that crowds the room will only detract from your beautiful dining space.

Shopping for cabinet hardware is a lot of fun because it involves putting the finishing touches on a brand new kitchen. Even if you decided to save some money and replace just the cabinet doors and cabinet hardware, it is still as if you are getting all new kitchen cabinets because the look of your kitchen will change drastically. The type of cabinet hardware you select says a lot about your personality, so it is very important to choose carefully. Here are some ideas to keep in mind as you go about choosing new cabinet hardware.

    Style and Material

The two most important things to think about when you first start looking for cabinet hardware are style and material. Brushed nickel is currently one of the most popular materials, although there are also many others to choose from. Other options include copper, pewter, and stainless steel. Just think about the color of the hardware and what would look good with the type of wood you chose. In addition to color, also think about the style of the cabinets and the overall feel of your kitchen. Is it simple or fancy? Elegant or country? Modern or classic?

It is also important to take your appliances into consideration. If you intend to have stainless steel appliances, then you will probably want cabinet hardware that shares the same silver tone. Some pieces even have two toned looks to them, so it is certainly possible to get that silver look in the hardware you choose, while still paying homage to another metal-colored tone that is in your kitchen.

    Pulls or Knobs

Another important question when it comes to cabinet hardware is whether you prefer knobs or cabinet pulls. Knobs tend to be a little bit more simplistic in their styling because they are often just one solid color with very little decoration. Cabinet pulls, on the other hand, are a full handle that can be used to open the cabinet. They have much more room to be fancy, so it is not unusual for those with a fancier kitchen to choose cabinet pulls instead of simple knobs for their hardware.

    Ease of Use and Cleaning

One thing many people do not take into consideration when shopping for hardware is how easy the pieces are to use and clean. For example, some hardware has very intricate designs, but these intricate designs will be very difficult to keep clean. Also hardware pieces that come in some shapes are very difficult to use for people with arthritis or other problems with their hands. Keep both of these in mind as you shop for the right pieces for your kitchen.

    Saving Money

One thing many people do not know about hardware for cabinets is the fact that it is so easy to save money on the pieces. Purchasing from a retailer is like asking to pay more for the same pieces. Most retailers or cabinet companies will sell these hardware pieces for three times what they are actually worth on a retail level. However, many companies that make hardware sell the same pieces wholesale over the internet. Purchasing hardware online is a great way to save a lot of money on hardware. However, always be sure to purchase just one piece of hardware to start. This will allow you to test the quality of the hardware and make sure that it really is comparable to what is marked up three times the price in the retail store. Heavier hardware pieces are of higher quality, so keep this in mind as you compare the feel of the pieces.

New drawer pulls and handles is a great way to freshen up an old kitchen or bath, even if you have no intention of actually replacing the cabinets and drawers themselves. Drawer pulls and handles can make any statement you want them to, but it is extremely important that they match the style of the cabinets and the overall room that they will be used in. There are so many different options available when it comes to selecting drawer pulls and handles that it will help out a lot if you have a basic understanding of the different kinds of hardware.

Types of Drawer Pulls and Handles

The first thing to understand is that drawer pulls can be either handles or knobs. Handles are much longer than knobs, and they do provide more space to grab onto when you want to open a drawer. Handles also tend to offer more stylistic options since there is more space to make a statement in style. Handles are generally more versatile than knobs, and many people prefer handles to knobs, especially if all of the doors in their homes have handles rather than knobs.

    Materials

The next thing it is important to understand is the different materials that are used for drawer pulls and handles. Metal is probably the most popular material currently, although glass is also a very viable option, especially if you want to display color and expression in a way that metal just can't do. Metal is probably the most durable material available, and it can offer some very ornate options in carving, although most metal pulls and handles are only one color or, at the most, two. Generally shoppers looking for metal handles or pulls are going to have a choice between silver or yellow, and there are several different kinds of metals that fall into those two colors. Pewter, nickel, brass, and bronze are just a few of the choices. The only real reason to choose a certain metal over another type of metal is the color. Beyond that, in cases of a metal allergy there is also a good reason to avoid specific types of metal.

    Style

Another important consideration to make is the style of the pulls. Remember that the goal of the pulls is to find hardware that matches the style of the drawers. Hardware that looks out of place of the drawer will not match the style at all. Just spend some time looking around your kitchen or bath and think about the style you see there. Are there plenty of wavy lines or curves, or does the décor lean more toward blocks and straight lines? Is the room full of neutral colors or bursting with other vibrant colors? Are the cabinets made of a dark or light wood? Are they stained or painted white, black, or a different color?

It is also very important to think about the size of the drawers. Are they very heavy and hard to pull out, or do they glide out very easily? Heavier drawers will need a more heavy duty type of pull, while a lighter drawer will be able to work well with a lighter handle. In addition to the practical part of size, also be sure to think about how the size of the drawer pulls and handles will look on the drawers themselves. Try to choose handles and pulls that are proportionate to the size of the drawers. Having a piece of hardware that just looks too small or too large for the drawer it is on will throw off the style quite a bit.

Bakers racks are the perfect solution for people who want a little extra storage space in their kitchen. However, it is easy to purchase a rack that will take up too much space if you are not careful. One of the best things about bakers racks is the fact that they are extremely functional, in addition to very elegant and stylish. So how do you know what kind of bakers racks you should be looking at? Think about these defining characteristics as you shop.

    Function

As already mentioned, bakers racks are extremely functional, although the type of function they are used for can take a bit of defining for each person. Bakers racks can be made to hold plants, display glassware, or store all of those little extra things your kitchen counters and drawers may not have enough space for. One thing to remember is the fact that many bakers racks have wire shelves, which means small items can easily slip right through them. It is very helpful to think about the kinds of things you intend to store on and in the baker's rack before you go shopping. This will give you an idea about whether a rack with wire shelves is okay, or if you actually need to look for one with wood or another solid type of wood material.

    Materials

Another important consideration to make is what kind of material you want. Most bakers racks are made out of metal, especially wrought iron, although wood is also fairly common. The type of material you choose can make a big impact on the overall look of the kitchen. Some bakers racks are even made of a combination of wood and metal. If you are not sure what kind of material would work best in your kitchen, just think about the style of your kitchen cabinets, furniture, and appliances. Some racks are very plain in appearance, while others have fancy metalwork on them. Just choose a style that fits the best with your tastes and your kitchen décor.

    Space

It is also very important to take into consideration the amount of space that is available. Before you go shopping, make sure to measure the space where the baker's rack will sit. Do not forget to measure the depth that is available also because you do not want the rack to stick out too far into the room. Remember, a baker's rack is meant to provide additional storage, but if it is so big that you just end up tripping over it, then it defeats the purpose of the rack.

If space is a real issue in your kitchen, you might even consider looking for a corner baker's rack. Corner racks do not take up as much space as flat racks, although they do depend on actually having a corner to use. A corner rack may just be the creative solution you have been looking for if space is a serious problem in your kitchen.

    Quality

As with any kind of furniture, quality is always a major concern. Many bakers racks are very small pieces that are also extremely light. However, some racks are much heavier than others, even though they are quite small. One way to judge the quality of a rack very easily is by testing it to see how heavy it is. Heavier racks will be sturdier and more difficult to move. They will protect glassware more easily because the rack will not be constantly shifting if someone bumps into it. Higher quality metal is usually heavier than poor quality metal, so it is very important to compare the weight of the rack to other racks before you purchase.

A teak bench is a great way to add beauty and a unique style to any space, whether it is indoor or outdoor. Teak is a very durable wood, so that is why so many people choose a teak bench over benches made from other types of wood. Teak is also a very versatile wood, and there are several different ways to care for it, depending on what kind of look you are wanting to preserve in a teak bench. Let's take a look at the three different ways to care for a teak bench.

    Staining

People who want to control the look of the teak bench for the long term should definitely consider staining it. Teak is a tropical hardwood that will accept most brands of stains, and if you apply a sealer after you stain it, the color will last for the life of the bench. This permanent nature of staining is really the only thing that should be kept in mind if this is the route you decide to take. Stained benches cannot be returned to their original teak color without sanding them numerous times. However, staining the bench is definitely one of the simpler solutions to having a teak bench that will last forever and always look great.

    Weathering

The easiest option in caring for a bench made of teak wood is simply allowing it to weather. Weathered teak is a silvery grey color. The wood starts out as a golden brown color, and over a period of several months, it fades to a silvery grey color. Usually when people see grey wood they automatically think that it is old and may fall apart soon. However, the best thing about a teak bench is that it can be left outside for many months in the wind and the rain, and the only change it will go through is a color change. The wood of the bench itself will still remain just as strong and durable as it was the first day you set it outside. A weathered teak bench is a great way to add an antique look to your outdoor space without the worry of rotting, insects, or other problems that usually go along with aging wood. Teak has natural properties that make it resistant to insects and rotting, so it only makes sense that a weathered teak bench would be the perfect piece of outdoor furniture.

    Oiling and Sanding

This third option for taking care of a bench made of teak wood is much more labor intensive than the other two. This method is for people who want to keep the original golden brown color of the teak as long as possible. Other than staining, this may be the best option for people who are looking for an indoor bench because most people prefer the golden brown color to the look of weathered teak. Also keeping an outdoor bench properly oiled and sanded is even more difficult than keep an indoor bench in this way because the bench is outside in all of the elements.

Teak oil is meant to help teak wood looking golden brown longer than it normally would. In order to keep the original color of the wood, it will be necessary to oil the bench a couple of times per year. It may also be necessary to sand the bench once per year. Sanding the bench basically takes a very small layer of older wood off the top so that the original golden brown color will show once again. Oiling the bench then extends the life of that original golden brown color.

What are etageres? Shelves, shelves, and more shelves! Actually, most people know etageres as a type of china cabinet. As you can imagine, when it comes to styles and designs of etageres, the possibilities are endless. Seriously, if you need etageres to show off antiques, figurines, set books, fresh flowers, or whatever the case may be, you will find just about every type imaginable.

Some etageres are made from wrought iron and glass, some from wood, some from plastic, and so on. This article will provide you with some specific styles so you can get an idea of your options.

o For around $500, you could choose an étagère with an open display design that features tempered glass that sets securely on top of wire grids. This particular style comes in a number of metal finishes and makes a beautiful piece for any home.

o Going one-step up around $650, you could choose an étagère that is more elaborate. With this style, there are multiple shelves made from glass and the vintage wood finish makes this a piece that will complement any room.

o If you want something a little smaller and more simplistic, then a small pagoda or corner étagère would be ideal. This type of cabinet usually costs around $300 and features small, 12-inch shelves that are wonderful for displaying vases or favorite figurines.

o Now, for something a little more contemporary and unique, you could choose a designer étagère. These come in a number of designs that would work well in a contemporary, oriental, or transitional room. Many times, these are made from a dark ebony wood that is very rich in design and appearance. Keep in mind that the designer etageres will cost more, often running as much as $1,500.

o A simplistic style étagère is another option that is great for people who prefer clean lines. This type of cabinet is structured with a number of glass shelves and gentle curves. Depending on the size of étagère you choose, you would expect to pay between $350 and $500.

o A unique étagère that is great for smaller spaces is the round cabinet with glass shelves. Usually made from forged wrought iron, you would commonly see a size of 18 x 72 inches. In addition, you can choose from the number of shelves you prefer along with the type of finish. These etageres are affordably priced around $150 to $250.

If you have a wet bar in the home or prefer a sleeker, contemporary look, then a leather bar stool and counter stool would be an excellent consideration. For this, you have many different styles such as the solid hardwood stool that features clean lines and a traditional scrolled back. These counter stools and barstools come with and without armrests and are available in a number of wood types and leather colors. Now, if you want something more industrial looking, you could change up the leather barstool and counter stool by choosing a tall model made from chrome, straight legs, no arms, and black leather seat.

o Now, if you love something a little funkier, something with character, then you might go with the gothic style, neoclassic style, or a contemporary metal style. However, if you want something completely over the top, then a breakfront étagère would be a wonderful choice of display. This piece of furniture is more expensive, usually ranging around $5,500. However, for the price you end up with an étagère that measures 82 x 15 x 92 inches, several adjustable shelves, inside lighting, a beautiful wood finish, and more.

Shopping for dining chairs is a lot of fun, but there are so many things to think about during the whole process that it can seem to be a bit complicated. For example, you want to have dining chairs that are comfortable yet functional. They need to be stylish, but they need to match the dining room table. They also need to offer quality construction that will last a very long time. Some dining chairs last for several generations, and this is the type of quality you want to look for. Here are some things to think about when shopping for dining chairs.

    Style

The most important thing to consider when looking for dining chairs is the fact that they must match the table. Most people purchase dining chairs in a set with a dining room table. Some retailers even have some tables and chairs that can offer a mix and match deal. This allows shoppers to change up their dining room set if they do not want an exact match between the chairs and the table. Matching the table means the obvious things like color of the wood and style, but it also means size and height. Some chairs offer seats that do not sit at the right height for some tables. The only way to really know for sure is to try the dining chairs with the table that you intend to match them with.

    Comfort

Another important factor of selecting dining room chairs is comfort. Some people fall in love with a particular table, but the chairs that go with it are just not very comfortable. This may be one situation when it is a good idea to try to match different chairs with the table. Sometimes having a more comfortable seat is a bit more important than having the exact chairs that are supposed to go with a specific table.

    Construction

One fact that will impact how long the chairs will last is construction. It is very important to understand how chairs are constructed and be able to spot a poorly constructed chair. For example, wood chairs should be constructed with dowels or teeth connecting the pieces of wood. Compare a chair with construction like that to a chair with just flat edges that are glued or screwed together. There is certainly no comparison because the chair with just flat edges touching will break much sooner than the other chair. For metal chairs, always look for joints that are welded rather than screwed or bolted. Screws and bolts can be stripped after a time, but welds are made to hold for a very long time if they are done properly. High quality welds will be located in very inconspicuous places in the chair, and there will be several of them.

    Material

The type of material is also very important when looking for dining chairs. If you are shopping for wood chairs, always look for a chair that is solid wood. Solid wood chairs will stand the test of time, while chairs made of other materials like plywood will not. When in doubt about whether a specific chair is solid wood or not, pick the chair up to see how heavy it is. A solid wood chair should be a lot heavier than a plywood chair. Heavier is also better in the case of metal chairs. Higher quality metal tends to be heavier than lower quality metal.

    Saving Money

It is also very easy to save a little bit of money off some dining room chairs. Always check the scratch and dent section of the retailer for chairs that may have a small scratch on them. Tiny nicks save quite a bit of money.

A hall bench is a great way to add some seating in an inconvenient area without adding a lot of furniture. Also a hall bench can easily be pulled into a room that is already full of furniture, in the event of having a lot of company over. There are so many different styles of benches that anyone can find the perfect bench for their hallway. Just remember to take several things into consideration when selecting the perfect bench for your hall.

    Size

It is always extremely important to measure the amount of available space when shopping for furniture, and anyone who is looking for a hall bench will find measurements to be even more important. This is because hallways are naturally very tight spaces. The best way to measure is to measure the entire size the hallway, both length and width. Once you have those measurements, then measure out from the wall the amount of space you think would be good for a hall bench. Make sure you still have enough room to walk if there was a bench there of that size, and then it is time to go shopping. Of course it can be very tempting to fudge those numbers just a bit because hallways do have just a little bit more space, but make sure that you limit yourself to the numbers you have in your head. This will ensure that you do not purchase a hall bench that is too big for the space you have. When in doubt, aim for a smaller size than the one you have in mind because smaller is usually better in a hallway.

    Style and Color

The style and color of the bench are also very important. A hall bench should certainly match the other furniture in your home, especially the furniture that is in the adjoining rooms. Hallways tend to be very nondescript areas of the home, so adding a bench allows your personal style to spill out into the hallway. Just remember that the colors do not have to match the other colors in your home exactly, but they should have the same general theme. Also remember that for dark hallways, a lighter wood color is best for the bench because it adds a bit of brightness to a dark hallway.

In addition to the color of the wood, also some benches have upholstered cushions on top of them. This upholstery is another great way to add even more color to a space.

    Use

Another important factor in choosing the right hall bench is the amount of use it will have. Most hall benches probably will not be used much, especially because they are located in a very high traffic area. In some cases, you might want to purchase a bench that actually has some storage underneath it. This is a great way to utilize every inch of your home and stash away some items that do not need to clutter up your counters or table tops.

Some benches also have very large backs on them, and the backs then have coat hooks on them. This is an additional space saver because it eliminates the need for a coat rack. Many homeowners appreciate a piece of furniture that can be used for several different things, especially when they are dealing with a very small space.

Overall, always make sure that the bench you choose is one you will like for many years to come. A hall bench will be seen by everyone who comes over because everyone sees the hallway at some point during a visit, so don't settle on one that you don't think will work.
