High levels of cholesterol can be harmful to health. Perhaps, it would be better to understand that there are two types of cholesterol. HDL, also known as good cholesterol and LDL or bad cholesterol. Good cholesterol is useful to the body while bad cholesterol leads to health complications if its level rises above the normal.
A high level of cholesterol usually goes beyond the recommended healthy amount of 200. Having high levels of cholesterol will likely indicate a deficiency in minerals and vitamins in the body. Cholesterol will be found in excess in the body when the glands of the body fail to use it up in their functions. The adrenal, pituitary, thyroid and reproductive glands require cholesterol to carry out their functions but they may not use it all, leaving the excess in the bloodstream.
The excess cholesterol starts to line up on the arteries in the heart and eventually causing them to clog. Over the years, this build up will cause the heart arteries to harden and thicken, a condition known as atherosclerosis. This may lead to diseases like angina, stroke, coronary artery disease, and high blood pressure.
In some cases, the plaque that builds up on the arteries may be thin and can easily burst. If this happens, fat and cholesterol are released into the bloodstream. As a result, clotting may occur, which will restrict the flow of blood to the heart. When the heart does not get blood rich in oxygen, a heart failure is likely to occur.
The only way to be safe from these effects is to lower the amount of cholesterol in the body. This can be done naturally by the use of red yeast rice. Red yeast is a substance that is made by planting rice with a type of mold known as monascus purpureus.
The yeast in the rice contains an amount of statin which occurs naturally. Statin is the conventional drug that is used to lower cholesterol. Since red yeast rice contains natural statin, it is a better way of putting cholesterol levels under control. This is because statin brings with it side effects like muscle pains and liver damage while the yeast does not.
The yeast contains monacolin compounds that work by inhibiting the liver from producing cholesterol. Red yeast rice has been used for a long time by the Chinese to manage various ailments. It has recently been used to make supplements for use in lowering cholesterol.
A number of studies have been carried out to find out if the supplements work. The results of all the studies have proven that using it lowers the level of cholesterol by as much as 27%. In one study, one group was given the supplement and another one given a placebo. They were both put on the same exercise and diet. The group using the supplement had their cholesterol levels lowered more than the placebo group.
For maximum results, red yeast rice supplements should be combined with regular exercise and a balanced diet. Using red yeast rice can keep your heart and overall health safe.

Cysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that is not only essential as an antioxidant, but also as a free-radical deactivator. This nutrient is considered to be a detoxifying agent because of its ability to bond toxic metals like copper, cadmium, lead, and mercury. cysteine is able to stimulate the body's immune system. It is also a powerful aid in fighting radiation and pollution. This amino acid is also able to extend the life span. Overall, cysteine helps to protect and repair.
This nutrient is known for its ability to protect against acetaldehyde, which is found in air and cigarette smoke. cysteine works with vitamins C, E, A, B1, B5, B6, selenium, and zinc to protect against cellular damage. It is also able to improve the health of hair and skin. This nutrient is necessary for the utilization of vitamin B6. This amino acid is responsible for supplying more than ten percent of the body's insulin. It also aids in pancreatic health. cysteine stabilizes blood sugar and carbohydrate metabolism. This nutrient is used along with pantothenic acid in the treatment of arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Amino acids are crucial for the human metabolism. They are responsible for making the human body function properly for good health. Without taking water into account, the human body is seventy-five percent amino acids. All of the neurotransmitters, with the exception of one, are made up of amino acids. Ninety-five percent of hormones are also made up of amino acids. cysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that is known for its ability to help form healthy skin, hair, bones, and connective tissue.
The nutrient is required to make glutathione, which one of the natural antioxidants that fight free-radical damage. Each cysteine molecule is made from two molecules of cysteine, which is another sulfur-containing amino acid that is very similar to cysteine. Actually, cysteine is often thought to be a more stable form of cysteine. However, both amino acids can be converted into the other as needed.
This nutrient works closely with glutathione in order to remove toxins from the liver. It also protects both the liver and brain against toxins that are absorbed from alcohol and cigarette use. cysteine may also be effective in preventing hangovers. There is a large amount of cysteine found in alpha-keratin, which is the protein that makes up the fingernails, skin, and hair. Because of this, cysteine supplements are often marketed as anti-aging products that claim to stimulate the formation of collagen and improve skin elasticity. Supplementation of this nutrient may also help speed the healing of burns and wounds and improve joint flexibility in those with rheumatoid arthritis.
cysteine is a nonessential amino acid, meaning that the body manufactures its own supply. However, foods like eggs, meat, dairy products, and whole grains are great sources of this nutrient. For those who would like to try cysteine supplements, try N-acetyl-cysteine, which is made naturally from cysteine and is better absorbed than other cysteine or cysteine supplements.
In order to obtain the best results when using this, or any supplement, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by cysteine, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

During periods of growth, arginine is considered to be an essential amino acid because it cannot be made by the body fast enough to meet the requirements that are set forth by young children. Arginine is also important to male sexual health. This is because eighty percent of the male seminal fluid is made up of arginine. This nutrient detoxifies poisonous waste from blood. It also supports the function of the immune system. This amino acid is a chelating agent for manganese. When combined with ornithine, this nutrient is involved in weight control.
The nutrient also works with the pituitary gland, which is the master gland that is involved in burning fat and building muscle tissue. Arginine is also linked with increasing the size and activity of the thymus gland during times of stress and injury. This nutrient may also help to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis. Arginine controls body cell degeneration. The nutrient is necessary for cell reproduction and muscle contraction. Additionally, arginine assists the body in nitrogen elimination.
Arginine is an amino acid that has a variety of functions in the body. It is responsible for helping the body to get rid of ammonia, which is used to make compounds in the body like creatine, L-glutamate, and L-proline. This nutrient is also able to be converted to glucose and glycogen if necessary.
Arginine is used to make nitric oxide, which is a compound in the body that relaxes blood vessels. Studies have determined that this nutrient may help with conditions that improve when blood vessels are relaxed. For example, this amino acid may help with atherosclerosis, erectile dysfunction, and intermittent claudication. The nutrient is involved in protein formation and stimulates the release of the growth hormone and prolactin, in larger amounts.
In most cases, the body normally has enough arginine. It is produced in the kidney and in the liver in smaller quantities. Arginine can also be found in food sources like plant and animal proteins. These include dairy products, meat, poultry, fish, and nuts. It is also very important to have a healthy ratio of arginine to lysine, with soy and other plant proteins having more arginine than animal sources of protein. The body's supply of arginine can be depleted by severe burns, infections and injuries.
In the above cases, arginine becomes essential and it is crucial to make sure that proper intake is met in order to make up for increased demands. This nutrient is also essential for children who have rare genetic disorders that impair the formation of arginine. In these cases, it may be essential to supplement with arginine. These supplements can be found in tablet or capsule form.
In order to obtain the best results when using this, or any supplement, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by arginine, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

When tyrosine is used in combination of tryptophan it may be a better sleep aid than simply tryptophan alone. This nutrient is involved in the pigment of skin and hair. Tyrosine also therapeutically alters brain function. This fact may make it a useful agent in treating mental illness. It has been shown that some patients who had previously responded to amphetamines also responded well to tyrosine therapy. Tyrosine seems to work along with glutamine, tryptophan, niacin, and vitamin B6 to control depression, anxiety, and appetite. When combined with phenylalnine, tyrosine is able to help with weight control.
This nutrient plays a role in the function of the adrenal, thyroid, and pituitary glands. Tyrosine may also help to create positive feelings, while elevating the mood, and increasing alertness and ambition. Tyrosine has been combined with tryptophan, niacin, vitamin B6, hops, skullcap, passion flower, and valerian root to assist with alcoholism. This nutrient has been used in cases of high blood pressure, the aging of cells, and Parkinson's disease. Additionally, it is useful for muscle development, allergies, cancer, and irritability.
Tyrosine is a nonessential amino acid. The body produces tyrosine from another amino acid called phenylalanine. It is a building block for a variety of important neurotransmitters. Among these include epinephrine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine. These neurotransmitters are responsible for helping nerve cells to communicate and influence mood.
This nutrient is responsible for helping to produce melanin, which is the pigment that is responsible for hair and skin color. Tyrosine helps in the function of organs that are responsible for making and regulating hormones. This includes adrenal, thyroid, and pituitary glands. The nutrient is involved in the structure of almost every protein in the body.
Although tyrosine deficiencies are rare, low levels have been associated with low blood pressure, low body temperature, and an underactive thyroid. However, one should note that taking tyrosine supplements may not improve any of the above conditions. Tyrosine can be found in soy products, chicken, turkey, fish, peanuts, almonds, avocados, bananas, milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, lima beans, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds. Tyrosine can also be taken as a dietary supplement and can be found in capsule or tablet form.
When taking a tyrosine supplement, you should take supplements at least thirty minutes before meals, and divide them into three daily doses. The body is better able to convert tyrosine into important brain chemicals when taken with vitamins B6, B9, and copper. In order to obtain the best results when using this, or any supplement, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen.
For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by tyrosine, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
One of the most recent fatty acids supplements to make the news is alpha lipoic acid (ALA). This supplement has been used in Europe. It is also now being tested for its therapeutic value in its ability to work as a free radical scavenger. Alpha lipoic acid may be able to improve some degenerative diseases and restore health.
Alpha lipoic acid is an antioxidant synthesized within the body in very small amounts. This substance is responsible for contributing to the energy reaction in mitochondrial electron transport. It is related to the metabolism of glucose into energy and is both fat and water soluble. This allows for it to help protect lipid and aqueous cell structures. Like other nutrients, the levels of alpha lipoic acid decline with the body as we age. Because of this, a supplement may be necessary so that optimum levels of antioxidant protection are ensured.
Alpha lipoic acid is believed to be the most effective antioxidant available by Dr. Lester Packer, a professor at the University of California at Berkley. In its dihydrolipoic form, the antioxidant is able to neutralize peroxyl and peoxynitrite free radicals. It is this ability that makes alpha lipoic acid a universal antioxidant that has many incredible benefits for protecting the body.
This antioxidant has been used by European physicians for a number of years to treat complications that are related to diabetes. It has been shown that alpha lipoic acid has been able to help boost glucose uptake in some diabetic individuals without less insulin dependency. Additional research has determined that alpha lipoic acid has the ability to help prevent protein modifications that occur when blood sugar levels are elevated.
Research has determined that alpha lipoic acid can protect brain tissue on a cellular level. This study, which supplemented mice with alpha lipoic acid, showed improvement of long-term memory. This may help to prevent a number of age-related disorders that occur in the brain. It also seems that the antioxidant provides protection from harmful chemicals that can damage brain cells.
Promising results have been shown with the supplementation of alpha lipoic acid by those who are dealing with heart disease. In studies, blood cholesterol levels were reduced by forty percent in those individuals who were supplementing. This reduction allowed for an increased amount of oxygen to be supplied to both the heart and the liver tissue. This antioxidant also has the ability to increase the survival rate and damage done from strokes. One study done on rats that were administered alpha lipoic acid before restricted blood flow. Those rats that were given this antioxidant had an eighty percent survival rate, while those ones who did not have the supplementation only had a twenty percent survival rate.
Alpha lipoic acid is easily absorbed in the body, which makes it extremely valuable as an antioxidant. The supplement seems to contain some of the most potent antioxidant properties available. Continuing research is needed to fully understand the effects and possibilities of this wonderful supplement. In order to obtain the best results when using this, or any supplement, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen.
For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by alpha lipoic acid, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

The witch hazel plant is a deciduous shrub that grows from three to eight meters tall. The leaves of the plant are oval and about four to sixteen centimeters long. They have a smooth, wavy margin. The horticultural name means 'together with fruit,' as its fruit, flowers, and leaf buds for the following year all appear on the branch at the same time. Sometimes, the flowers are produced on the leafless stems in winter, which gives it the alternative name, "winterbloom."
Witch hazel, in its medicinal form, is an astringent that is produced from the leaves and bark of the North American witch hazel shrub. Naturally, the plant grows from Nova Scotia west to Ontario, Canada and south to Florida, and Texas in the United States. This plant was widely used for medicinal purposes by the American Indians. Witch hazel extract was produced by steaming the twigs of the shrub.
Witch hazel was used by Native Americans for cuts, bruises, muscle aches, wounds, and also as a general tonic. Also, they drank a tea made with this herb for sore throats and to prevent miscarriage, fevers, and colds. The herb was used in steam baths for coughs and congestion. Witch hazel is one of the most valuable remedies native to America. Colonists began using witch hazel thanks to the natives. This herb was listed in the US Pharmacopoeia from 1862 through 1916. It was also listed in the National Formulary from 1916 through 1955 as both an astringent and anti-inflammatory.
Externally, witch hazel is used as an alcohol extract for insect bites, varicose veins, burns, hemorrhoids, and to stop bleeding wounds. Internally, the herb is used to stop bleeding from the lungs, uterus, and other internal organs. It can also be used as a mouthwash for bleeding gums and inflammation in the mouth and throat. Compresses of witch hazel can be applied to the skin in order to treat headaches, sores, skin irritations, insect bites, sunburn, other burns, and infections. The herb is a safe treatment that possesses a mild and gentle action.
The leaves and bark of this herb contain tannins. These tannins are known to have astringent properties. The use of an alcoholic fluid extract has been found to produce vasoconstrictive activity in animal studies.
In short, the bark of witch hazel is used to provide alterative, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, hemostatic, and sedative properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are copper, iodine, manganese, selenium, vitamins C, EK, and P, and zinc. Primarily, witch hazel is extremely beneficial in treating internal bleeding, gum problems, hemorrhoids, mucous membranes, and varicose veins. Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with bruises, burns, cuts, diarrhea, dysentery, bags under the eyes, hemorrhage, insect bites, excess menstruation, sore muscles, scalds, sinus ailments, swelling, tuberculosis, tumors, and venereal disease.
In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by witch hazel, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Wood betony is an herb that is commonly considered to be the most important among Anglo-Saxon herbs. The herb possesses at least twenty-nine uses in the treatment of physical diseases. Wood betony was also probably the most popular amulet herb at one time, with it being used widely until the Middle Ages as a charm to fight off alleged evil or ill humors that supposedly brought disease to the human body. The herbalist Gerard wrote down the many uses of wood betony in 1597, giving a long list of herbal applications for this plant. Unfortunately, most contemporary herbalists neglect the wood betony as a potential remedy. However, the beneficial properties of this herb are worth rediscovering and making use of.
An herbalist by the name of Antonius Musa, the Roman physician to Cesar Augustus, wrote a book devoted to the value betony. He suggested the use of this herb for preserving the liver and bodies of men from epidemic diseases, digestion of meat, weak stomachs, and belching. A German pharmacist named Schroeder in 1611 said that wood betony could help a person with almost any ailment.
Wood betony is traditionally used to treat nervous disorders, as a sedative, to relieve head and facial pain, as a blood purifier, as a liver strengthener, as a gentle laxative, and to treat indigestion. The herb is also used as an effective sedative for children and a good tranquilizer for adults. It is able to clean impurities from the blood. Wood betony also opens congested areas of the liver and spleen. The herb contains glycosides that are responsible for having hypotensive properties which may help relax the nerves and open constricted blood vessels. It is this responsibility that may allow the herb to help in headache pain relief.
Although little research has been done on this herb, one study found that the hypotensive activity can be attributed to the glycoside components of the herb. More research needs to be done. However, this herb may be useful for pain relief, as a relaxant, for catarrh and fatigue, as a brain enhancer, and as a general alterative.
In short, the whole wood betony herb is used to provide alterative, analgesic, aromatic, blood purifier, hepatic, hypotensive, nervine, parasiticide, and sedative properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus. Primarily, wood betony is extremely beneficial in treating delirium, fevers, headaches, hysteria, jaundice, liver problems, migraines, nervousness, Parkinson's disease, and worms.
Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with anemia, arthritis, asthma, bladder problems, internal bleeding, blood impurities, bronchitis, colds, colic, consumption, convulsions, stomach cramps, diarrhea, digestion, dropsy, epilepsy, fainting, gout, heartburn, heart problems, indigestion, insanity, insomnia, kidney ailments, lung congestion, menstruation, muscle spasms, neuralgia, pain, parasites, rheumatism, ulcers, varicose veins, and wounds.
In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by wood betony, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

The willow is made up of nine different species which are native to Great Britain. The species belong to the Onagraceae family, which also includes familiar garden flowers like the Fuchsia, Clarkia, Godetia, and the Evening Primrose. The Enchanter's Nightshade, which is a wild plant that is scientifically referred to as Circaea lutetiana, also belongs to the same family. Many members of this family are rich in tannins. They also find a great deal of domestic use as astringents. The name of the genus Epilobium, is derived from two Greek words, with epi meaning upon and lobos meaning a pod. This comes from the fact that the flowers stand on top of long, thin, pod-like seed-vessels, which gives off the appearance they are standing on especially thick flower-stems.
Dioscorides, the Greek physician, recognized willow for its medicinal value during the first century AD. He recommended that this herb be used for both pain and inflammation. Willow bark was also used by early Chinese physicians for pain and inflammation. The Egyptians, on the other hand, considered willow to be a sign of joy and celebration. The Native Americans also recognized the value of willow for the treatment of pain, fevers, and inflammation. This knowledge was passed on to the colonists when they moved to the New World.
Willow is a nerve sedative because it does not have any depression after effects. It works similarly to asprin. However, it is very gentle on the stomach. A drink was traditionally made by putting willow bark in water. This drink was then used in order to treat fevers and chills. It was also used as substitute for chinchona bark. This herb is helpful in healing inflamed and infected eyes. Willow is often referred to as an essential first aid plant. The plant has strong antispectic properties. It is also good for treating wounds, ulcerations, and eczema. The bark of the willow contains the glycoside salicin, which is an effective painkiller. Asprin is actually a synthetic derivative of this component. Most often, willow is used for minor body aches and pains.
The natural source of synthetic asprin is salicylic acid. Asprin and willow share many similar analgesic properties. Salicylates are able to reduce pain by acting on sensory nerves and inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins that are involved with inflammation.
The bark of the willow plant is used to provide alterative, analgesic, anodyne, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, antiperiodic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent, diaphoretic, diuretic, and febrifuge properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are isorhamnetin, phenolic glycosides, quercetin, salicin, salicylic acid, and salinigrin. Primarily, willow is extremely beneficial in treating eczema, fever, headache, nervousness, pain, rheumatism, sex depressant, and ulceration. Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with bleeding, chills, corns, dandruff, diarrhea, dysentery, earache, flu, gout, hay fever, heartburn, impotence, infection, inflammation, sore muscle, night sweats, ovarian pain, and tonsillitis.
In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by willow, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

The yucca plant can be found growing in the southwestern areas of the United States. This herb was used by Native Americans for arthritis, rheumatism, and as a poultice on breaks and sprains. Yucca was also used for skin disorders and to stop bleeding. Native cultures viewed the yucca plant as being very valuable. It was also used for making clothing as well as for healing.
The name yucca comes from a Caribbean name for cassava, which was considered part of this genus at one point. This herb was traditionally used as a soap because of the foaming agents that it possesses. The Native Americans used the soapy leaves from Yucca for a variety of health conditions. Today, the plant is used to treat inflammation pains that are caused by degenerative diseases. Scientific studies have shown that yucca saponins block the release of toxins from the intestines, which often inhibits the normal formation of cartilage. This herb also contains antibacterial and antifungal properties that make it great for cleansing the colon, purifying the blood, and helping to keep the kidneys and liver free of toxins. This herb is used topically as a poultice for sprains. It is also great as a shampoo for dandruff and hair loss. Yucca has also been approved for the use in foods as foaming agent, especially in root beer.
Yucca contains saponins which are helpful in improving the body's ability to produce a natural cortisone. This cortisone helps with inflammation, healing, and pain. Often herbalists recommend yucca for arthritis and rheumatism. The herb is also used for intestinal problems and to aid digestion. Yucca has an ability to affect the intestinal flora and help to prevent certain types of harmful bacteria from growing. Often, yucca extracts are found in shampoo and soaps. The herb can be used as soap. When the roots are chopped up with water and rubbed on the skin, they will form a lather.
According to scientific studies, yucca contains nontoxic steroid saponins that are extremely similar to cortisone. It is these properties that make the herb useful in cases of arthritis, rheumatism, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol levels in the blood. Yucca saponin extract has successfully treated various arthritic conditions. Benefits were found in reducing pain and inflammation, and there was also a significant reduction in blood pressure, serum cholesterol levels, and the occurrence of migraines.
The root of the yucca plant is used to provide alterative, antibacterial, antirheumatic, astringent, blood purifier, and gentle purgative properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are calcium, copper, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamins A, B-complex, and C. Primarily, yucca is extremely beneficial in treating arthritis, blood impurities, cholesterol, and rheumatism. Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with Addison's disease, bursitis, cancer, colitis, dandruff, gallbladder ailments, gonorrhea, gout, inflammation, liver problems, skin disorders, and venereal disease.
In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by yucca, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

Article Title: Do Probiotics Work Best With Fiber?

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
What are Probiotics? Do we need them for our body? These are some questions that we pose if we don't know what probiotics are.
'Good' bacteria can best describe as a general term: probiotics. They are also good to our body which was originated from a Greek word which means 'for life.' However these days, natural nutrition is clearly being the health trend. And that's the reason why probiotics resurface and deserve the attention that they have gained. You're exposed to probiotics when you take your very first breath. It's surprising, isn't it? You will encounter many threats to the bacteria that are beneficial in your gut as you grow older. And these threats can be acquired through drinking chlorinated water and through eating overly-processed foods. In sum, you're not that exposed to bacteria now than in the past which includes beneficial bacteria.
Due to safety regulations regarding food, there are less bacteria (including the 'good' ones) that survive in the manufacturing process. Numerous overly-processed products, such as yogurt, have to undergo sterilization or pasteurization that may destroy bacteria that are beneficial.
You may not find it essential to use fiber supplements if you already have fiber in your diet on a regular basis, and that is if you are pretty sure that every single day, you will be able to eat some form of fire.... because if not then a fiber supplement must be taken every day, indefinitely (flaring or not) is a good idea. It is not that necessary to take probiotics together with your fiber supplements. And it would be better if you take your probiotics before eating a meal and make sure you take it on an empty stomach (this is the first thing that you will do in the am/day before you eat).
It only shows that probiotics can work best with fiber but it is not necessary that you have to take them simultaneously because the other one can be a substitute to the other one. It's just that they have some common uses such as they help fight against bacteria in our body and they also protect our immune system.
Some of the uses of probiotics in your body are: for colds, antibiotic side effects, keeping You Regular, Digestive Woes, UTI Returns. These are some of its uses. You can buy this product in the drug stores near you. You can also recommend this product to your friends and family if you want them to improve their lifestyle, for them to become healthier and have no worries about becoming old. They can use it anytime they want and it's free from harmful effect. But also remember that you will also take fiber with you and not just these probiotics only.
It's good to take natural supplements that could boost our health and can make us become stronger to fight back against the demands of live every day. We must stay healthy. Always remember: Health is Wealth!
Make sure you take your probiotics daily to maintain good colon health and wellness. You can find these probiotics at your local or internet health food store.

Wild Yam was used by herbalists in the 18th and 19th centuries to treat menstrual cramps and problems related to childbirth. It was also used for stomach upset and coughs. The Native Americans used wild yam as a root decoction in order to relieve the pains of childbirth and also to treat muscular rheumatism. Wild yam was used by the Aztecs to treat skin disorders including scabies. It was also used as a poultice for boils. Herbalist Jethro Kloss stated that wild yam, when combined with ginger, can help to prevent miscarriage in his book Back to Eden.
Wild yam is responsible for relaxing the muscular fiber, which soothes the nerves and relieves pain, especially in the uterus. The herb is often used to balance hormones, which helps to treat nausea in pregnant women and aid in preventing miscarriage, cramps, and general pains during pregnancy. Wild yam cleanses the blood and also helps to strengthen the liver. Additionally, it helps in reducing cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure. The pain associated with gallstones can also be relieved with the use of wild yam.
A component known as diosgenin can be found in wild yam. This component is a precurosos of progesterone and has the ability to convert progesterone. However, wild yam does not contain progesterone. Diosgenin was used to make the first birth control pills in the 1960s. It was found by one physician that an herbal formula containing wild yam was seventy-one percent effective in reducing the total number of symptoms of progesterone deficiency. This herbal formula was also one hundred percent effective in reducing the severity of these symptoms.
Animal studies have found that wild yam contains steroid-like properties the restrain inflammation. Another study determined that the supplementation of natural progesterone was much more effective in preventing osteoporosis than estrogen. A study conducted at Johns Hopkins University tested women who had a progesterone deficiency. These women were over five times more likely to develop breast cancer than those women who had normal progesterone levels. The progesterone that comes from wild yam is closely related to natural progesterone synthesized in the body. When wild yam is absorbed by the body, it is easily converted into the same molecule as progesterone.
The root of the wild yam plant is used to provide anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, blood purifier, cholagogue, and diaphoretic properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, sodium, vitamins A, B-complex, and C, and zinc. Primarily, wild yam is extremely beneficial in treating arthritis, spasmodic asthma, bowel spasms, colic, uterine cramps, gas, liver ailments, morning sickness, muscle pain, and spasms. Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with abdominal pain, blood impurities, boils, bronchitis, catarrh, cholera, hiccup, inflammation, intestinal problems, jaundice, nausea, nervousness, pain, rheumatism, stomach ailments, ulcers, and whooping cough. In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by wild yam, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

Overview
Taking fiber has never been something I have experienced myself in terms of supplementation, however I have always paid attention to my fiber intake through my diet. I always made sure that I have enough fiber through fruits and vegetables but I'm not an expert so I was never actually sure if all that food amounted to enough. I always felt it was though because it seemed to help my bowel movements along as I'd hope most of the time because sometimes it would not do the trick. I guess maybe supplementation is better after all when it comes to fiber intake because at least you know exactly how much you're getting and at the same time it is handy as well.
Imagine if you are a person that needs to maintain a certain amount of fiber in the body and there are none available in supplement form, then you would have to carry around baskets of fibrous fruits and veggies. Some people though, don't like high amounts of fiber whether it is through supplementation or from high fiber foods, maybe it is the cramping and bloating that it brings but if you ask me those are minor discomforts for keeping a healthy colon.
Fiber
Before we are able to better determine what is the best time to take fiber we need to know first how it works, this is so because we have individual needs and according to how fiber may affect you, we can possibly try to decide what is the best time for fiber intake. Fiber's main function in the body is to aid in digestion, its main characteristic that makes this possible is its sponge like properties which allow it to absorb many times its weight therefore coupled with hefty amounts of water it can ease elimination thereby being a good relief treatment for constipation.
This cleansing effect also allows fiber to help in various health concerns like cholesterol level issues and colon health. The idea is that it has the ability to bind itself with harmful fats and cholesterol and carry it out of the body through consistent bowel movement and same goes with harmful toxins that reside in the colon. It is eliminated from the body before it can do any damage to the colon's tissue linings. However since it does not differentiate the substances it absorbs it can also eliminate vitamins and nutrients from the food we eat before it can be absorbed by the body and if there is a lack of water it can also cause constipation as it swells up in the colon.
So what's the best time to take it?
According to how it works, it would be best to take it when there is no need for much activity after taking it and when there is no immediate important need for your body to absorb nutrients. Reason being, we do not want to be caught in traffic or in the office somewhere and feel the need for bowel movement and we also do not want the vitamins we consume to go to waste. So I would say some time in the afternoon when you're about done with work and any medication has been taken or will be taken later tonight when the fiber has already done its job.

Rhubarb is the root of the species Rheum. It can be found growing in the mountains of the Western and North-western provinces of China. It can also be found in the adjoining Thibetan territory. This herb is also known as Russian rhubarb, Turkey rhubarb, and East Indian and Chinese rhubarb. However, the geographical source of all species is the same, with the commercial names of the herb only indicating the route by which it formerly reached the European market. At the present day, practically all rhubarb is conveyed to Europe via Shanghai.
The technical name of the rhubarb genus is derived from Rha, which is the ancient name of the Volga, on whose banks the plants grow. Other authorities derive the name from the Greek word Rheo, which means to flow, which is an allusion to the purgative properties of the root. The rhubarb plant is dug in October. The root is scraped or rasped and halved longitudinally when it is very large. Then, it should be cut into transverse pieces and strung on cords to dry in the sun. Afterwards, the drying is completely by stove heat.
In commerce, Chinese or Turkey rhubarb is found in brownish-yellow pieces of various size. It is usually perforated, with the holes containing a portion of the cord that is used to hang the sections of the root on during drying. The outer surface is generally powdery, with the bark having been removed, and showing a network of lines. The taste of this herb is astringent and nauseous. It also possesses a characteristic odor. The powdered root, a fluid extract, a tincture, syrup, infusion, and solution are used as preparations in medicine. The herb is also employed as a principal ingredient in compound powder and in compound pills.
Europe was brought to the New World from Europe. The herb is used as a laxative because it cleans intestinal irritants and checks diarrhea without its astringent action when taken in large doses. Rhubarb is very helpful when the stomach is weak and the bowels are relaxed. This is because it acts as a gentle cathartic. When it is taken in small doses, rhubarb acts as a blood cleanser and builder. This herb is very useful in toxic blood conditions that are caused by an excessive intake of meat. Rhubarb is also a mildly stimulating alterative for the liver, gall bladder, and mucous membranes of the intestines. The herb can be used as a digestive aid.
The root of the rhubarb plant is used to provide alterative, antibacterial, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antineoplastic, astringent, diuretic, hepatic, hypotensive, parasiticide, mild purgative, sialagogue, stomachic, and vulnerary properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are calcium, cobalt, iron, nickel, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulfur, tin, and vitamins A, B-complex, and C. Primarily, rhubarb is extremely beneficial in treating toxic blood, colon problems, diarrhea, and liver disorders.
Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with anemia, colitis, constipation, dysentery, indigestion, jaundice, gallbladder problems, gastric disorders, and headaches. In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Rhodiola is sometimes referred to as golden root, arctic root, or rose root. The rhodiola plant is part of the Crassulaceae family. This plant can be found growing at high elevations in the arctic areas of Europe and Asia. These locations include much of the Arctic, the mountains of Central Asia, the Rocky Mountains, and mountainous parts of Europe, such as the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathian Mountains, Scandinavia, Iceland, Great Britain, and Ireland. This plant grows in areas up to 2280 meters in elevation. The root produces several shoots that reach heights between five to thirty five centimeters. For centuries, this plant has been used in Russian and Scandinavian folk medicine. Swedish researchers believed that the Vikings used rhodiola regularly. A bouquet of the plant is still often presented to a bride and groom in Siberia in order to ensure a bountiful marriage.
This herb is an adaptogen. Studies of its medicinal benefits have been performed in France, Sweden, Norway, Germany, the Soviet Union, and Iceland. It is currently used in Russia as a tonic and treatment for fatigue, lack of concentration, and poor memory. It is also used to increase worker productivity. In Sweden and other Scandinavian nations, it is used to enhance the capacity for mental work and also as a general strengthener.
A recent review found in Herbalgram, the Journal of the American Botanical Council, stated that numerous studies of rhodiola in vitro and in animals and humans have determined that the herb helps combat fatigue, stress, and the harmful effects of oxygen deprivation. Rhodiola can also protect against cancer and increase immunity. Other research has found that this herb can help boost learning capacity, enhance memory, regulate menstrual periods, help with infertility, reduce chemotherapy side effects. It can also enhance libido, aid erectile dysfunction, improve thyroid function, expand endurance, and protect against environmental toxins.
It seems as if rhodiola acts differently in the body than other adaptogens. This herb, unlike the others, acts on key neurotransmitters in the brain, including dopamine and serotonin. An imbalance of these two chemicals is thought to be one of the key reasons for illnesses such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and seasonal affective disorder. Some herbalists believe that rhodiola may help to regulate levels of these neurotransmitters, which alleviates these ailments. Most other adaptogens, on the other hand, appear to fortify the body's reserves by increasing the production of stress-fighting hormones from the adrenal glands.
In short, the root of the rhodiola plant is used to provide adaptogen, anticarinogenic, and antioxidant properties. Primarily, rhodiola is extremely beneficial in dealing with cancer, endurance, fatigue, immune function, infertility, libido, poor memory, menstrual irregularity, stress, and thyroid function. It should be noted that high doses may cause a risk for irritability and insomnia.
In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by rhodiola, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

Vervain, a common plant that can be found growing throughout the world, has a long history of use. The ancient Romans used the herb medicinally. They also used it to purify their temples and homes. Vervain is spoken of by Egyptians and mythology. The Greeks used the herb for both fevers and the plague. The use of vervain quickly spread throughout Europe. Like many other herbs, the colonists brought vervain to the New World. The American vervain was used by Native Americans to treat fevers and stomach complaints.
The common vervain is found growing in England by roadsides and in sunny pastures. The plant is a perennial, bearing many small, pale-lilac flowers. The plant does not have a scent, but its taste is slightly bitter and astringent. The name vervain comes from the Celtic word ferfaen, with fer meaning to drive away and faen meaning a stone. This name comes from its common use in bladder affections. Another derivation of the name comes from Herba veneris, due to its aphrodisiac qualities that were noted by the Ancients. Priests often used this herb for sacrifices, which is where it got one of its names "Herba Sacra." The druids included the herb in their lustral water, while magicians and sorcerers used the herb often.
Traditionally, the herb has been used to treat any conditions. Among these conditions are colds, fevers, intestinal worms, menstrual irregularities, acute diseases, gout, and skin disorders. The herb is recommended as a nervous system strengthener. It is also used for nervous disorders and for menstrual stress. Also, it is used for liver conditions and congestion. Vervain is used modernly for fever, depression, gum disease, headache, menstruation problems, and as a relaxant.
The herb has been found to work on mild pain and inflammation. When taken in small doses, the glycoside verbenin that is found in vervain is responsible for stimulating the flow of milk. Vervain is worn around the neck when bruised as a charm against headaches and snake and other venomous bites. The herb is also used for general good luck. Vervain was also believed to be good for sight. It is important that the plant be picked before flowering and dried promptly in order to provide the best benefits.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Chronic fatigue syndrome strikes more than two million people in the United States, with eighty-five percent of these people being women between the ages of thirty and fifty. The symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome often resemble many other viral infections, making it very hard to pinpoint the real problem. This condition is possibly caused by stress as well as by mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings, hypoglycemia, anemia, hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, food and chemical allergies, weak adrenal function, parasitic infections, amino acid deficiencies, and Candida albicans infections. With all of this in mind, there are a couple of herbal combinations and healthful suggestions that can be followed to help prevent or deal with chronic fatigue syndrome.
Cordyceps sinensis is a natural Chinese supplement that contains high amounts of L-tryptophan. It provides nutrients that are necessary for relieving fatigue and improving endurance. It also helps to increase blood supply to the heart and brain. This herb increases the production of superoxide dismutase in the body. In China, this herb has been traditionally used to treat the nervous system. Additionally, it is used to help strengthen the kidneys and liver.
An herbal combination containing bee pollen, licorice, kelp, barley grass, schizandra, gotu kola, eleuthero, yellow dock, rose hips, and capsicum has been shown to help restore energy to the system. This combination is an excellent combination of herbs to feed and nourish the entire system. It provides nourishment for the adrenals, in the form of licorice, and also for the thyroid, in the form of kelp. The bee pollen in this combination helps to nourish and supply energy to the body. Barley grass nourishes and cleans the body, while schizandra, which is an adaptogen herb, increases the energy supply of cells in the brain, muscles, liver, kidneys, glands, nerves, and in the entire body. The combination of herbs will rebuild the blood, liver, and digestive system.
The following are a few suggestions that can be followed to help deal with and prevent chronic fatigue syndrome. Exercise is very helpful, with even mild exercise helping to increase stamina and oxygenate cells. Exercise also helps to improve sleep. Allergies can be involved in chronic fatigue syndrome, so it is important to look into food allergies, chemicals, and heavy metals, and eliminate them. Anytime there is inflammation in the body that is accompanied by pain, swelling, heat, and redness, allergies are likely the culprits.
When the immune system is weak, candida is usually involved. A candida diet would help to restore natural flora to the system. Candida can prevent the body from using sugars properly, which blocks the body's energy production and causes extreme fatigue. To restore the friendly bacteria, use acidophilus on an empty stomach and eat unsweetened yogurt. If candida is involved, it is important to eliminate sugar, alcohol, mushrooms and all fungi, molds, and yeast in any form. It is also important to eliminate fermented foods. Look into leaky gut syndrome, which typically allows germs, viruses, bacteria, worms, and parasites to flourish. When they flourish, the immune and nervous system become weak, causing diseases such as chronic fatigue syndrome to weaken the body.

Article Title: Menopause Got You Down – Take Natural Phytoestrogens Herbs to Help Relieve the Pains of Menopause

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Menopause is a natural phenomenon among women which literally means cessation of menstruation. This is a result from the loss of estrogen production by the follicles of the ovaries. At about the age of 45, ovarian follicles, which are responsible for the production of the female reproductive hormones, starts to degenerate. This change could lead to the reduction of functional ovarian follicles. Thus, the production of estrogen also drops. Estrogen is important to the body because it promotes the development of the female secondary characteristics and has many other health benefits. Primarily, estrogen is a reproductive hormone. However, it also plays a key role in maintaining bone health and preventing osteoporosis. It also increases the production of proteins by the liver, aids in proper coagulation and increases the levels of HDL.
Generally, this life – changing event usually occurs around 45 to 55 years old, but may occur earlier. This alteration in the usual levels of estrogen can markedly result in some physiological changes. Studies show that about 75% of all women experience hot flashes and night sweats. Some women may also become more irritable and experience episodes of depression. Women on their menopausal stage also have a higher tendency of suffering from back and joint pain. Muscle cramps similar to that during menstruation may still be common. Nevertheless, before a woman completely achieves menopause, she may experience heavy and painful bleeding associated with general body weakness. For these unwanted changes, doctors often advise small doses of the female reproductive hormone estrogen or, more commonly, in combination with progesterone.
Fortunately, estrogen replacement can be done naturally. This natural source of estrogen comes from the chemical compound in plants known as phytoestrogens. Studies demonstrate that when phytoestrogens are taken and absorbed, they bind to estrogen receptor sites and may work similarly with the estrogen produced by the ovaries. However, these plant estrogens are undeniably weaker than the human estrogen. This type of estrogen is also structurally alike with the estrogen produced naturally by the body.
Almost for half a century, estrogen was employed as the primary component of hormonal replacement therapy to provide relief of menopausal symptoms or hormone supplement after a hysterectomy. Chemically, phytoestrogens come in two classifications namely the isoflavones and the lignans. Isoflavones are estrogens from soy beans while lignans are those found in linseed, grains and vegetables. Phytoestrogens also come in supplements in the form of tablet and creams. The richest source of phytoestrogens is soy beans. A 90 mL of tofu consists about 23 milligrams of isoflavones and about a handful of peanuts has about 10 milligrams. Other sources of phytoestrogens also include black cohosh, red clover, and flaxseed and dong quai. These plants have similar concentration of phytoestrogens with that of soy beans.
Phytoestrogens are relatively safe and effective as hormonal replacement to treat menopausal symptoms. However, studies show that it can cause interference with the effects of tamoxifen, an anti – breast cancer drug. Therefore, it must not be used by individuals who have had breast cancer or undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Experts strongly suggest that before starting this supplementation, seek medical advice first to review your medical history and recognize any drug to drug interactions.
You can find phytoestrogen supplements at your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands like Solaray to ensure quality and purity of the product you buy for better health.

Almost all hormones in the body follow a daily rhythmic cycle. There is a specific part of the brain that is responsible for the proper coordination of several rhythms. This area of the brain is called the suprachiasmatic nucleus. This is a bundle of nerve cells at the lower region of the brain known as the hypothalamus. The suprachiasmatic nucleus is often referred to as the "master clock" since it also regulates other biological processes of the body and maintains the circadian rhythm. Circadian rhythm is the internal body clock that is responsible of when we feel sleepy and when we become awake and alert. Furthermore, the suprachiasmatic nucleus is said to be controlled by a hormone which is naturally produced by a part of the brain known as the pineal gland. This hormone is called melatonin.
Melatonin is a hormone that is responsible for the regulation of sleep – wake cycles. The production and amount of melatonin in the body are directly related with the degree of darkness of the environment. This is one of the reasons why it is difficult for most people to achieve sleep onset if the surroundings is bright. Light can markedly affect the amount of melatonin produced by the body. According to studies, the concentration of melatonin in the circulation is at peak at night specifically before or during bedtime. This level remains high all throughout the night and then declines in late dawn or early morning. Exposure to very bright lights at night or dim light during daytime may disrupt the normal levels of melatonin expected for the certain time of the day. Generally, melatonin production gradually reduces with age. Some elderly people make only a little of it or none at all.
Though melatonin is naturally produced by the pineal gland, trace amounts of this hormone can also be found in foods including meat, grains, fruits and vegetables. And, with the latest innovation of technology in the medical community, melatonin is also formulated in the form of supplements. These supplements are very beneficial to individuals who are suffering from sleep problems such as insomnia. Many people also use melatonin supplements to reduce jet lag, aid in modifying the sleep – wake cycle for individuals with night shifts and improve the day and night recognition of blind people.
Aside from its primary role in regulating the sleep – wake cycles of the body, melatonin also has an antioxidant effect on its users. It is also involved in the release of female reproductive hormones thus playing a key role on when a female starts its menstruation, the timing and length of menstrual cycle and when a female achieves menopause or the period when menstruation stops.
Supplements of melatonin commonly come in the form of pill. Some pills are intended to be swallowed while others are formulated as sublingual or subbuccal pill. Subbuccal pill is put at the side of the inner cheek while the sublingual one is under the tongue. This is absorbed faster into the bloodstream. Though melatonin supplementation is highly safe, it is always best to consider talking to your physician first before you start supplementing.
You can find this hormone over the counter at your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands to ensure quality of what you buy for better health.

Chemical poisoning is also referred to as multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) syndrome and environmental illness syndrome. All of these are real conditions there are not all in the mind, as some doctors tell their patients. Usually, doctors say that you will just have to live with it. According to Dr. Sherry Rogers, MD, who suffered from devastating environmental sensitivities, you do not have to learn to live with it. In her book, The EI Syndrome, An Rx for Environmental Illness, she explains her dramatic recovery and now is helping others understand this destructive and very real disease.
Each year the number of toxic chemicals in our environment is increasing. The waste material that is generated by industry is often improperly disposed of and ends up in the drinking water, open fields, and in the air we breathe. This causes is to eventually end up in our bodies. More than six thousand chemicals are used commercially, with thousands of new ones added every year. In addition to these chemicals, we have radiation, petrochemicals, industrial waste, medical and street drugs, pesticides, and herbicides that end up in our food and are extremely dangerous to the human body. Combining two or three chemicals in our bodies disrupt hormone function far more powerfully than one chemical alone.
Dioxins are among the most toxic chemicals that are known to man, as they are often linked to birth defects and cancer. These toxic chemicals are emitted by municipal and industrial incinerators. Also, dioxins are used in many household goods, including toilet paper, face tissues, tampons, paper towels, milk cartons, juice cartons, coffee filters, tea bags, paper plates and cups, the packaging of TV dinners, and other foods. These chemical toxins are developed by a chlorine bleaching process. It is found in our environment and in the air and water. Dioxin is only one of the chemicals that is suspected in immune suppression disorders, liver congestion, cancer, and birth defects.
The Gulf War syndrome has been shown to have a devastating effect on soldiers. Not because of one toxin, but because of a combination of several. The vaccinations that are given to soldiers suppressed the part of the immune system that combats viruses and cancers, while another part of the immune system, which ordinarily reacts mildly to pollen or house dust mites, became hypersensitive to outside irritants. This caused the soldiers to become extremely vulnerable to common diseases, experiencing highly allergic reactions to what are normally harmless substances. This syndrome created new diseases that caused birth defects and autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Zane R. Gard stated in a special issue of What Doctors Don't Tell You that he believes exposure to chemicals leads to autoimmune diseases such as lupus. He sees patients with muscular aches, muscle weakness, joint pain, swelling, or early arthritis. In analyzing them, he found volatile or aromatic hydrocarbons, which are typically found in closed buildings with new carpet and poor ventilation.
They are responsible for poisoning people. Diseases from chemical poisoning can lead to autoimmune diseases such as polymyositis, ankylosing spondylitis, bacteremia, cancer, Epstein-Barr, multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis, glandular problems, intestinal disorders, depression, headaches, fatigue, and eye problems. Symptoms of chemical poisoning include chronic problems like headaches, sinusitis, and nasal cavity inflammation.
Avoiding these toxins and taking natural herbs for detox can help restore health and wellness.

Stevia has long been touted as a sweetener, but the thorough review concerning its safety has been completed only recently. Long years of extensive research have come to the conclusion that it is completely devoid of undesirable effects on the human body. In fact, more recent studies have found out that it displays the potential to aid against a list of common illnesses, such as diabetes and hypertension.
Produces Sweetening Effects
There are now a number of beverages that boast their zero-calorie sweetener, which is derived from stevia. Steviol glycosides, rebaudioside A in particular, are up to 450 times sweeter than sugar, but do not contain the calories of glucose, sucrose, or fructose. Plus, like most sources of sugar, it is naturally occurring in nature, to be specific in a group of herbs of the same name native to Central and South America. Apart from the superior sweetening effects that it produces, there hasn't been any mention of stevia bringing on any negative effects on human health. On the other hand, fructose, the main sweetener added to soft drinks and other beverages, has been associated with cancer as well as medical signs leading to diabetes.
Shows pH-stable Properties
Among all alternatives to sugar, research on stevia is the most advanced, spanning over 5 decades. It has long been approved in many countries, even endorsed as the healthiest of all sweeteners, including sucrose, the table sugar. The reason for its wide use is attributable to its ability to remain unchanged in environments with different chemical properties, inasmuch as it is pH-stable. In addition, it does not respond to heat and fermentation. There is scientific consensus on its general safety. In the US, it has been granted the status GRAS, or Generally Accepted As Safe, marking an undeniable rise in its utilization in food and drug industries and its consequent consumption by the general populace.
Affects Glycemic Responses
Stevia is especially beneficial to diabetics. It is not only safe as a sweetener, but also counters most cases of diabetes mellitus. Diabetes results from very high levels of blood glucose and brings on many complications. Lifestyle is a major risk factor, with individuals consuming high amounts of sugars being more prone to the disease. When stevia enters the circulatory system after passing the intestinal walls, it has been observed to have a negligible effect on sugar present in the blood. Furthermore, there have been mentions of its ability to enhance uptake of glucose and improve resistance to insulin, and clinical trials to support this are well underway.
Today stevia is fast becoming a popular alternative to saccharides that have been used as sweeteners for centuries as the latter group has often been tied to obesity and related medical conditions. It is particularly appealing to individuals on carbohydrate-controlled diets. Also, scientific circles from all over the world have advocated its use as part of lifestyle modifications imperative for diabetics.
Look for Stevia at you your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands like Kal to ensure purity and quality of what you buy as a sugar replacement.

Lavender is among the oldest of all herbs with known medicinal properties in use today. It is famed for its essential oil, which has been an important ingredient in alternative medicine, notably aromatherapy. Healing practices in many countries have incorporated the use of lavender oil as a folk remedy passed down from generations to generations over the course of history. Nowadays it is used in treatment of certain medical disorders such as anxiety as well as in topical applications to relieve skin lesions.
The presence of lavender in many different cultures has been well documented since the ancient times. Having been mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, it is one of the few consecrate herbs utilized by the ancient Israelites to adorn the biblical temples on mount Zion in the sacred ritual of preparing the holy essence. The ancient Greeks in particular made extensive use of the scent as a form of soothing, therapeutic preparation much like its application in present day aromatherapy.
Antiseptic Properties
The Romans spent lavish amounts of money equivalent to a month's wages of peasant laborers and added them to water in baths as it was widely believed to produce tonic properties responsible for the overall condition of muscles and skin. Dioscorides made mentions of the plant in his renowned pharmacopeia, De Materia Medica, as a remedy for sore throats, indigestion, and headaches. Pliny the Elder, a celebrated military physician, recommended its antiseptic properties in treating war wounds.
Lavender was introduced to England during Roman occupation. Ancient knowledge of its medicinal properties was preserved throughout the medieval times in Catholic communities largely by monks and nuns, but took a turn for the better when a Tudor monarch disbanded the organizations that made up the monasteries, making a number of writings public. It was reported that Queen Elizabeth I of England added lavender to tea to remedy migraine attacks. In the beginning of the modern period, English lavender products became popular all over the world.
Anti-inflammatory Effects
The antiseptic properties of lavender were fully taken advantage of during the first and second world wars, inasmuch as other antiseptic products were in limited supply. In the latter half of the 20th century, there was an increasing demand for medicinal lavender owing to a surge in popularity for aromatherapy. With the introduction of essential oils into mainstream press as therapeutic agents against stress and anxiety, the use of lavender has become more frequent.
More importantly, lavender has been observed to produce anti-inflammatory effects. When ingested in beverages like teas, it helps manage the rise in body temperature by decreasing the activities of inflammatory factors. As an essential oil, it has been reported to promote nasal decongestion when directly inhaled, resulting in respiratory disinfection. As a topical application, lavender is particularly effective in treating insect bites and in repelling insects as certain bugs have shown to avoid its scent.
Lavender is available in its pure form in 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 Ounce bottles at your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands like Now Foods to ensure quality and purity of the product you buy for external or internal use.
