Even though the average American home has almost doubled in size, 2,700 square feet today vs. 1,400 square feet in 1970, many homeowners still don't have enough space to put their stuff.
Fortunately, end tables can help with this quandary. With the right end tables you can add storage and style to your living room, family room or great room. There's an old saw that says that "stuff expands to fill the space available." Remarkably, the home we thought was so spacious when we first moved into it now may feel cramped. This is especially true if you have children, whose toys, hobbies and activities seem to spread like a wildfire through the home.
This is where the right end tables can really come in handy. While you can purchase tables that have an open design, usually a top and a lower shelf or even no shelf at all, you can get ones that feature cabinets or have several drawers down the face of them. You can even get end tables that allow you to kennel your dog. But more on that in a moment.
The challenge is to select a table or set of tables that not only fits your storage needs, but style as well. Thankfully, there are literally thousands of choices out on the market these days. While you may find selection somewhat limited in local furniture stores (hey, they only have so much space), you'll find the online selection vast, not only in terms of styles and models, but price.
When shopping for end tables online, you'll want to narrow your choices using the built-in search engines of retailer sites. This will allow you to find the right model, style, design or features quickly and easily.
One of the great things about ordering end tables online is that you can get free shipping. This not only evens out the cost compared to local furniture stores, but you don't have to even think twice about how you're going to get your new purchase home or delivered. It will just show up on your door a few days after you order it, as if my magic.
While storage is important, you want to make sure that your end tables fit your own tastes as far as appearance. This includes the color or stain of the wood, the general style (contemporary, modern, traditional, transitional, etc.) and the height. These tables don't come in any standard height, so you need to pay particular attention to this measurement. You want your table to be slightly lower than the arm of the sofa. Visitors should never have to reach up or reach too far down to set down their plate or drink.
If you have children, you want to make sure that the table doesn't have any sharp edges. For instance, with a toddler in the house you probably want to forego a glass top table. It's an invitation to an injury, or at least a nasty bump.
If you have a dog, you can get end tables that double as a dog house and kennel. As you know, your pets love to have a place to call their own, but a traditional dog bed plus a kennel can take up a lot of space. With one of these end tables, you can kill two birds with one stone. By night it serves as a bed. And when you need to go out during the day, you can add the front door to the table and voila! – instant kennel that keeps your dog and furniture safe, all at the same time. These tables come in three sizes, so you can find one that's perfect for your pet.

Not so many years ago, entertaining outdoors was only a seasonal pursuit. In the north, the winter months were too cold and in the south the summers far too hot. But with modern conveniences such as Florida rooms, heating and air conditioning and modern furnishings, entertaining outdoors is now a year round proposition.
Today, families and friends can gather in the comfort of their balcony, porch or deck for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a romantic getaway for just two under candlelight. Recognizing this, designers have taken a page from their interior designs, bringing lovely dining sets to the outdoors that are stylish, easy to maintain and which will allow the entire family to fit around a single table.
When selecting dining sets for the outdoors, you want to keep in mind a few things. First is size. You want to pick a table that will give you all the seating you need for the average gathering. Some models even allow you to add leaves to the table, allowing them to scale to the occasion. You need to be careful though and not get too carried away with size. You want it to be scaled to the space you have available. You don't want one that is so large that you can't easily move about the deck or patio when you're not entertaining or dining.
The vast majority of dining sets come with four or six chairs. Some come with eight and even 12, especially models that have removable leaves.
Selecting the style you like is a very personal decision. Suffice it to say that no matter what your tastes are—traditional, contemporary, transitional, rustic, eclectic, modern—chances are very good you'll find dining sets for the great outdoors that are perfect for you. As we said, designers have gone to great lengths to adapt indoor designs to the outdoors.
What you'll want to pay particular attention to is the materials your dining sets are constructed of. Different climates and regions will be better suited to one style over the other. For example, steel and wrought iron can be good choices for the north, but may be too hot to the touch in the south during the middle of summer. Wicker is always a good choice, as is aluminum, glass and teak. In fact, teak dining tables can be one of the best choices, given their durability, beauty and warmth. Best of all, the furniture will turn silvery gray as it ages, but you can always restore its original honey-gold color with some teak cleaner, keeping your dining sets looking beautiful all year long.
Since dining sets can be fairly large items to sell in traditional brick and mortar stores, you may find your best selection online. There, retailers can offer dining sets year round so that even if you start planning for summer in the dead of a snowy winter, you can still find inventory and perhaps even some great sales. Best of all, you don't have to fight the rotten weather outside to pick up your purchase. The most reputable online retailers offer free shipping on your order, which means you don't even have to lug the box very far once it arrives at your home.
If you do live in a seasonal region, you may want to bring your dining sets indoors during the winter months. If you decide to leave them outdoors to weather the elements, you want to make sure they are properly covered with the right patio furniture cover and that the cushions are cleaned, dried and brought inside for the winter. Be sure you don't bag them up, however. This can lead to the formation of mold and mildew.

Next to a sofa, sectional or love seat, one of the most popular pieces of living room furniture has to be coffee tables. Over the years, coffee tables have morphed from a place to set drinks and food while you talk to becoming a surrogate dining room table, thanks to innovations in design.
As most homeowners know, the television has become the focal point of many homes. Home theaters and gigantic plasma screens have transformed homes into mini movie theaters.
Small wonder why then, that families young and old have moved their dining into the living room. And while coffee tables and TV trays performed admirably, designers realized there had to be a better way.
Enter lift top coffee tables. Not only do these tables allow you to dine in style but they also offer you hidden storage, giving you a place to keep things like coasters, remotes, books and even pet or child toys out of sight and out of mind while guests are over. These new tables allow you to be a bit of a neat-kin even if you're really not. When guests are due to arrive, simply lift the top, put away all the things covering your table and you're ready to go.
But the true beauty of lift top coffee tables comes during dinner and a movie. Instead of balancing your dinner precariously on your lap, hunching over the coffee table or setting up that origami nightmare, the TV tray, you can simply lift up the top of the table and voila! – an instant dinner table. Depending on the size of your table, you can get a lot of people around one, too. The great thing is that everything is at the perfect height, so you don't have to try to keep your food balanced on a fork as it makes its way from the plate to your mouth.
The lift top is also great if you like to enjoy popcorn and some Junior Mints with your movie. Everything can be arranged on the lift top so everyone has ready access to it. In no time at all you can be watching the latest blockbuster without shelling out $25 for a drink, a bucket of popcorn and some nachos.
But don't think for a moment that lift top coffee tables are one trick ponies. No sir. They are great for doing a little work on your laptop, whether you're getting a big presentation ready for the boss tomorrow or catching up on some last minute homework that you forgot was due.
Lift top coffee tables are also ideal for small children. You can set them up with crayons and coloring books or crafts on the table so you can keep an eye on them while you watch a TV show or do the cooking, if your living room and kitchen open out on each other, such is the case with many contemporary floor plans.
When shopping for coffee tables, a good place to start is with an online retailer. While you could conceivably drive around all day looking for the perfect coffee table, shopping online is not only faster, but offers greater selection. Within minutes you can find hundreds of coffee tables to choose from in all styles, colors and price ranges. In fact, you can even narrow your search using the built-in search engines on these sites. Enter a term like "lift top coffee table" and you'll get back a range of choices. Best of all, many online retailers offer free shipping so you can place your order and never have to think twice about figuring out how you're going to fit that coffee table into the back of your SMART car.

Many years ago homes would go decades with the same cabinetry and certainly the same cabinet hardware. My how times have changed.
Today, new kitchen cabinets, counters and even a whole new layout for the space can make an old home seem brand new, not only increasing its value (when home prices do rebound), but functionality.
Older kitchens certainly weren't made for the way we cook today. There weren't microwaves, convection ovens, coffee and espresso makers and toaster ovens like there are now to crowd once spacious counters. And cabinets are overflowing with foodstuffs, glassware and dishes.
It you're remodeling your kitchen, cabinet hardware is an entirely different decision you'll have to make. Most cabinets either come with very basic hardware or none at all, leaving you on your own to find cabinet hardware that matches your décor and your personal tastes and style.
Luckily, manufacturers have been more than happy to fill the void out there with an endless variety of cabinet hardware, from pulls and knobs to door catches, hinges and backplates. If you're a cabinet hardware novice, here are some of the basics.
Knobs and pulls. These are the easiest pieces of hardware to identify, as they allow you to open your doors and drawers with ease. However, you still have to decide whether pulls, knobs or a mix of the two are best and then figure out the style, design and finish.
Hinges. Out of sight and usually out of mind, you may want to change these out if they have any visible parts to them, as they should match the other cabinet hardware you've selected. If you have invisible hinges, you may not need to worry about replacing them.
Backplates. Grimy hands can stain and mar the fronts of your expensive cabinets and drawers. Backplates go between the knob or pull and the wood facing, adding an additional layer of protection. If you use backplates you'll need to factor in their thickness when deciding how long the screw needs to be for each knob or pull.
Drawer slides. These are the runners that allow your drawers to open easily. You probably don't need to worry about replacing these until they wear out, unless you really want to have the perfect kitchen where all the cabinet hardware matches exactly.
As you start your search for cabinet hardware you'll be overwhelmed by choice. There are literally thousands upon thousands of options, not only in a specific style or shape, but in finishes. You can choose to go with a standard design or even get custom ones. For example, you can accent a country kitchen with western themed pulls, knobs and backplates or add a nautical flair to the kitchen with cabinet hardware that looks like starfish, shells and sea life.
If you're a bit overwhelmed, you may want to start online in your search. Many online retailers offer cabinet hardware that is not only very stylish, but won't be found in your local home improvement store. That's because these retailers don't have to cater to a one-size-fits-most approach to retailing and choose a handful of designs that everyone may like, or at least be able to settle on. Online retailers can work with smaller manufacturers to secure harder to find designs that will really give your kitchen a unique look that can't be found anywhere else.
If you are planning to change out your hardware, take the time to decide on designs that won't look tired or boring after a couple years. One of the best ways to avoid making a purchasing mistake is to select your favorites, install them on your cabinets and live them with a while, deciding which ones are perfect for you. This will not only save you time and money, but a lot of regret.

It wasn't so long ago that you'd only find counter height kitchen tables in pubs and restaurants. But these days, they've become a cherished part of homes everywhere, allowing family and friends to gather in new ways, whether it's in the kitchen, an informal dining space in a great room or a porch or deck.
In contrast to the higher pub tables you see, counter height kitchen tables strike a delicate balance. They are taller than a traditional kitchen table but lower than the pub-style table. They are perfect for young and old alike. Adults find them easier to get up from and children can easily get up on the stools or chairs themselves without the help of a grown up.
Counter height kitchen tables can be very formal or informal, depending on your personal tastes. Manufacturers have created a range of styles, from mission and contemporary to very traditional. Most counter height kitchen tables come with six to eight matching stools or chairs, allowing family and friends to gather together with ease.
If space is a bit limited, you can go with a five-piece version instead, which works well in smaller kitchens or apartments. Some of these counter height kitchen tables even have a hidden butterfly leaf in them so you can expand the table when guests come over. Just be sure to have a few extra matching stools or chairs handy. A standard folding chair won't work with these taller tables. Your guests will end up feeling like Lilliputians.
When the dishes have been cleared, family and friends can continue to enjoy your counter height kitchen tables. They are perfect for conversation, some glasses of wine or a rousing board game or game of cards.
If you have an outdoor entertainment space, you can get counter height kitchen tables for these as well. While an indoor version may not work well, there are outdoor models as well, designed to weather the elements and give you years of enjoyment.
The same is true if you have a home theater or playroom. You can add counter height kitchen tables there, creating a mini-pub in your own home, allowing your guests to enjoy conversation, a movie and their favorite libations in another part of the home.
When shopping for counter height kitchen tables, you want to make sure that the style and size will fit the space you have in mind. These tables come in an endless array of styles, colors, finishes and sizes so you want to do your homework before placing an order.
A good way to do this is to go online first. Online retailers have a huge selection of these tables and it's easy to compare different designs and styles using their search features. You can also make comparisons between stores, ensuring that you're getting the best deal possible.
Keep in mind that a low price for an otherwise identical model doesn't always mean that it's cheaper. You need to factor in shipping and taxes. Many online retailers offer free shipping, so a seemingly higher priced table there can actually be cheaper once you factor in shipping costs. You'll also want to select a retailer who has a good return/exchange policy, so you can order in confidence, knowing that you can always return or exchange it if you find the table just wasn't exactly what you wanted for that empty space in your home.
Because there can be so many choices, you may want to pull off the photos of your favorites and compare them next to one another. This will help you visualize the table and how it will look in your home. You can even hold the photo up in the room to get some idea of how it will look with the rest of your furnishings and décor.

Bakers racks aren't really used much for baking anymore. Instead, they have escaped the bondage of the kitchen and found their way into every nook and cranny in the home, offering a new lease on life for a piece of furniture that once excelled at only one thing: cooling pies.
Today's bakers racks can still cool a pie or two or three, but the racks come in so many styles and sizes now that they can serve any number of functions, from a cutting board and wine rack to a place to serve appetizers or even tend to a garden.
One of the great things about bakers racks is that they fit into nearly any home décor imaginable. There are, of course, bakers racks that are pure country, but you'll also find them in Mediterranean, rustic, contemporary, modern and traditional styles. Not only do they come in different styles, but different shapes, too. While the traditional bakers racks are tall and about three feet wide, you can find racks today that are much later or ones which fit nicely into a corner, making use of this often wasted space.
Here are some of the many styles of racks you can choose from for your home.
Country: This is the most traditional look for bakers racks and they can will look right at home in a country kitchen. In fact, they will really drive home the theme of the room, since a rack conjures up a simpler time when pies were regularly on the menu in American homes.
Mediterranean: This will work nicely in an informal or formal kitchen. Sophisticated in appearance, if is characterized by soft curves and decorative elements, done up in colors such as red, dark green, honey, ivory or black.
Rustic: This is a very popular style these days. The surfaces of these baker racks are artificially distressed to give them a look of being older, much like a family heirloom. The paint is crackled in appearance and it may even have a few nicks and dents. It will look great in a country, French or even a shabby chic decorated room.
Transitional: This is a fairly broad character. Bakers racks that are transitional can have wrought iron features, or be made of pine or oak. They look great with a traditional or contemporary room.
Modern: Who says these racks can't work with a modern design? You can find bakers racks that match the Modernist approach as well. These feature extremely simple lines and may use aluminum or steel as well as glass as design elements.
When shopping for bakers racks, bear in mind that the best selection may just be online. While you may happen on racks in furniture stores, the selection may be extremely limited, or perhaps, non-existent. But online retailers have an endless selection in all styles, materials, colors and price points. Bakers racks run anywhere from $200 and up, depending on the materials, manufacturer and features. Many offer variations on the theme, adding such thoughtful touches as a built in wine rack, a drawer for storing cheese knives and napkins or have doored units below so you can store your favorite household items or seasonal cookware. In fact, these doored units are great for keeping your favorite pie pans and baking items, just in case the mood hits you and you want to tap out a few pies for dinner.
But don't be too surprised if you find your bakers racks making their way into other rooms in your home. They work well in a guest room to display knickknacks or in the master to serve as a dressing area. Outdoors, they are terrific in the garden, replacing the traditional and often boring garden center with a more delicate, lovely place to tend to your flowers and plants.

Not everyone can afford a professional interior designer. But while an interior designer may be out of the question, you can use their design techniques to create the perfect arrangement for your living room furniture.
Best of all, you don't have to lift a stick of living room furniture until you're ready to put it right in its place. Gone are the hours of lifting heavy furniture, seeing if it works in a spot, and then moving it again to another part of the room.
While such experimentation can give you a good workout, you may end up finding that all the living room furniture you moved still doesn't look right.
Far better to do all your planning and visualization before hand. You can do this one of two ways, the old analog method (pen and paper) or you can do it digitally on your computer. The results are the same, but these days it's whatever format allows you to create and dream the easiest.
Let's start with the basics first. When placing living room furniture, you need to follow a few rules that will make the process more enjoyable and more productive.
First, you want to always place the largest piece first into the layout, then work your way down to smaller and smaller pieces. Second, you want to always keep the main traffic areas clear. For example, you want a main traffic area that leads from the living room to the hall or the living room to any other room open so people can move easily without having to climb over or duck around living room furniture.
Start by measuring the room. Then transfer the measurements to a piece of paper or a drawing program on your computer. Make everything to scale, such as 1' in your room equals ½" on your diagram. This will make sizing everything easier since you simply halve the measurement to get the correct size on your layout. For example, a 6' sofa is 3" long in your plan.
Next, mark all the doors, windows and fireplace. Make an arc for the doors so you can see how much floor is consumed by the door opening and closing. Once these major design elements are marked, you can start moving the furniture around. This is where a piece of paper is easier. Start by making visual representations of each piece of living room furniture. This will make it easy to move them around the room virtually without having to move a muscle.
Now the fun begins. Once you have all your pieces of living room furniture it's time to lay them out in the room. You want your largest piece to face the focal point of the room, for instance, a fireplace or a view window. It can even be the TV. If you're going to use your living room for entertainment, group the other pieces so that everyone will be able to talk without raising their voice. For example, if you have a love seat you can put it at a 90-degree angle or perpendicular to the sofa. Keep arranging the living room furniture until it looks good to you.
Before you start the heavy lifting, double check the traffic patterns. You want at least 3' between furniture in the major traffic areas and at least 18" between a major piece and a secondary piece, such as between the sofa and a coffee table. As far as the major traffic areas, more is always better.
Now you can move your living room furniture with confidence, knowing that chances are very good that you'll only have to move it once. This will make rearranging your furniture a joy, giving your room a new look without a major workout.

Article Title: Selecting Bathroom Mirrors For Your Home

In many homes the bathroom mirrors are still the ones that came with the home. Few people give much thought to bathroom mirrors, but they are really an essential part of your room's décor.
While mirrors may cover a built-in medicine cabinet in smaller baths or in older homes, many homes today have large mirrors that cover the entire area behind dual sinks in the master.
While this may initially seem like a good idea, many homeowners have begun to prefer separate bathroom mirrors to add a little air to the room and reduce the labor of keeping a large wall-to-wall mirror clean.
Perhaps just as important the right decorative mirrors can actually complete the look of the room, driving home the theme in definitive terms. For example, if you're doing a room in a French look, a gilded mirror or a set of them can be la piece de resistance that gives the room a finished look.
Of course, mirrors have the added benefit of making the room look lighter as light is bounced from it into the room. It can also increase the perceived size of a smaller bathroom.
With the arrival of online retailers as well as home improvement stores, there's never been a better selection of mirrors for bathrooms. You can get a style and size that will fit any bathroom perfectly, from the straight lines of modern or contemporary mirrors to the rich dark woods of a Victorian style or even the whimsy of a retro, rustic or eclectic style.
One of the best things about bathroom mirrors is that they are one of the easiest things you can do to give the room a new look. Outside of painting the bathroom, changing the mirrors is one of the simplest room makeovers you can do. It's like hanging a painting.
If you have bathrooms with a single sink, you'll want the mirror to be the same width of the vanity. If it's larger, it will look odd. For double sinks, you can replace the wall-to-wall with two individual bathroom mirrors. If you have a fine hand in interior design, they can even be different in shapes and styles, as long as the right elements tie them together visually. For example, you may have found two antique bathroom mirrors that go perfectly in the bathroom, sharing the same ornate frame and finish, but being different shapes or sizes.
By breaking up the room with two mirrors instead of one large one, you can make it a bit more intimate.
When installing bathroom mirrors, consider how you will be using them. For example, you want to make sure that a man and a woman sharing the same mirror can both use it. A mirror that's too high or too low can be maddening. This is the beauty of having two bathroom mirrors in the master bathroom, by the way.
Some people prefer a swing out mirror that allows them to put on their makeup. These often have magnified mirrors in them so you can see a lot of detail. Others get mirrors on their cabinets that can swing out so the two side mirrors and center mirror allow you to see every side of your face or hair as you get ready to go to work or out on a night on the town.
When shopping for bathroom mirrors, pay particular attention to their size. Measurements can be deceiving. This is an added bonus of shopping online, since online retailers provide you with all the measurements of the piece, ensuring a perfect fit every time. They also usually offer free shipping on your order, an added bonus, particularly since you don't have to traipse all over town searching for the perfect mirror for your bathroom.

Even with today's expansive kitchens, counter space can be at a premium, especially with all the gadgets we have, from bread and Panini makers to blenders, toaster ovens and microwaves.
As anyone who loves to cook knows, it doesn't take long before your counters are filled, not only with your appliances, but pots, pans and mixing bowls. This is particularly true when you're hosting a party.
Kitchen island carts can be a real godsend in these cases. Easy to move about and offering lots of convenience, kitchen island carts offer you a lot of flexibility when it comes to meal preparation and having enough room to spread out.
Kitchen island carts come in all shapes and styles. The most basic models are simply a rolling cart with some shelves and a tabletop. These are great for holding your extra cookware or even the microwave and other appliances to free up your regular counter space. Down below, you can keep your bowls and cooking utensils.
Some kitchen island carts can also double as breakfast bars, having a fold up counter on one side where you can place a couple of stools. These are great for friends who love to cook since you can entertain and eat as you cook. This style of cart is ideal for those who love sushi, since you can prepare the sushi right in front of your guests.
More sophisticated and full featured carts include some really thoughtful additions. This includes storage drawers to store utensils as well as a knife block on the side that can provide you ready access to your favorite chef knives. Others have a towel rack on one side, so you can easily wipe your hands in between preparation steps.
While you can get kitchen island carts with open bottoms, many homeowners prefer ones with cabinets. This greatly expands your storage in the kitchen, which is terrific for those in condos or smaller homes. Here you can keep all your bowls, bake ware and cookware handy.
Of course, many of today's homes have built-in islands, so why would you need kitchen island carts? One of the great advantages of kitchen island carts is mobility. They can be rolled out of sight and out of mind when you need a more open kitchen, and then be brought in at a moment's notice when the occasion warrants.
They are particularly handy for renters who aren't exactly allowed to tear out the existing kitchen and remodel so you have enough room to cook the way you want to. The cart can sit against a wall and be brought into service, giving you a lot of extra prep space without having to surrender your damage deposit.
But kitchen island carts have one more cool trick up their sleeve, one that cooks may not be aware of. If you love to cook indoors and outdoors, you can use your kitchen island carts to do all the prep work for an outdoor cookout in the kitchen. Load the cart up with everything you need – the main course, the sides, all the serving ware and secret sauces, rubs etc. When you're ready, roll the cart from the kitchen out onto the deck. There you can use the island as extra counter space, including using the tabletop for a cutting board. When you're all through. Roll everything back into the kitchen on the cart. No more shuttling dishes and utensils back and forth a load at a time. Everything is on the island, ready to be put away or cleaned whenever you're ready.
Kitchen carts are a great addition to any home, especially if you love to entertain but never seem to have enough counter space or storage.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Console tables don't seem to get the respect they deserve. They are one of the specialty tables you'll find in homes everywhere, but few people really know what they are or what their purpose is. Often they simply mistake them for another tall table in the home, the sofa table.
This isn't too surprising, since most console tables are rectangular in shape, though half-oval and semicircle console tables are also popular. Basically, it's any table that is long and narrow and which can easily fit in the living room, but also works equally well in a narrow room, hallway or entryway.
That's really where these tables found their niche – in a hallway or foyer. They are a great place to establish the tone of the home. For example, you can use the table to show off the latest family photos, showing visitors how much family means to you. Or you can have a few pieces from your collection of fine antiques. They also allow you to keep certain items handy, such as your pair of leather gloves, at the ready on a cold winter day and easy to find. Console tables can also be used to keep your glasses, mail, dog's leash or any other regularly used items handy.
Originally, you'd find console tables that were actually mounted to the walls. There were no back legs. They were often paired with sconces and even a mirror. Today, they're more mobile than their ancestors, gaining rear legs so they can be used virtually anywhere in the home, no installation required.
While console tables are more mobile, many homeowners still add a mirror on the wall behind it, keeping their hairbrush and other last minute touches at the ready in a table drawer so they can do a brief check before heading out to work or a date.
Because these console tables can be used virtually anywhere in the home, their versatility is one of their most prized features. For instance, you can place one at the end of a hallway or at the bottom of a staircase (a very handy addition for getting things from one floor to another).
But don't think for a moment that these tables are only designed to shuttle stuff from one place to another. They can be used for a variety of purposes, such as holding some of your favorite first edition books, your Wii or wifi boombox. You can also use them to display a spray of flowers or cards from your birthday or anniversary.
When the holidays roll around, you can press your console tables into service as a place to hold your china, service pieces, utensils and napkins. Or you can set up a wonderful wine and cocktail bar on the table, freeing up space on your main dining room table or buffet.
When selecting the perfect table, you want to make sure that it fits the space you have in mind. Start by taking measurements of the area that will host the table and then shop with this in mind. Console tables come in any number of sizes and shapes, so you want to select one that not only fits the space available, but the style of the area in your home, too, This ensures that you will end up with a table that not only meets your needs, but also fits into your decor.
You'll probably find the best selection of tables on the Internet. Online furniture retailers offer a wide selection, often far wider than you'll find in traditional furniture stores. Online retail aisles are virtually limitless, offering you the latest styles from major manufacturers.

Quality accent tables can be a big investment in your home décor. Even though you've taken every precaution to keep them looking like new, inevitably someone is going to scratch them, a stain will appear or you'll find some discoloration that makes your once beautiful accent tables candidates for the dumpster.
The good news is that they don't have to suffer this fate. With a little elbow grease, the right cleaning agents and some helpful household tips, you can restore the beauty of your accent tables, even removing large scratches with relative ease.
First, let's look a the small nicks and scrapes. These can usually be covered up easily with a product you can purchase at any home improvement store made expressly for this purpose. You can also use some shoe polish or use Sharpie markers. Color in the scratch and watch it disappear. You'd be amazed at how well this works. You can also use an empty shoe polish applicator and fill it with stain that matches your finish. The process is just like polishing a pair of shoes.
Water spots can be maddening when you find them on your accent tables. However, once they have dried completely, take a soft cloth and dab some mayonnaise onto it. Rub it on the spot until it disappears. Use real mayonnaise. Miracle Whip might be tangy on a sandwich, but it won't remove a water spot.
Any colored rings can be removed with a little toothpaste. Rub it in until the ring disappears. You can also use cigarette ashes in cooking oil. But if you're not a smoker, go with the toothpaste.
Candle wax can really ruin the finish on accent tables. But they are easier to remove than you think. If candle wax gets on the surface, let it cool and harden completely. Place ice on it so it gets brittle. Then scrape it off with a plastic (not metal) spatula. Polish it a bit to remove any remaining wax.
Of course, the best way to fix the damage to your accent tables is to prevent it to begin with. It's always a good idea to have lots of coasters around so when guests are over, they can place their drinks on the coasters instead of on your accent tables.
When you're entertaining, you want to make sure that you don't place any hot serving dishes on an unprotected table. Always place a hot pad, trivet, a couple of oven mitts or at least a thick towel under the hot plate to prevent burning and marring.
If you are using candles to set the mood, make sure they have a large base to them. If not, place the candleholder on a dish or trivet or use hurricane lamps instead so hot wax doesn't spill out and onto the top of your expensive accent tables.
You shouldn't ever polish or wax your wood with cheap commercial products available at supermarkets. These can harm the surface or simply add a layer of waxy film that will collect dust. If you really like the look of polish, use one part lemon oil to three parts olive oil. It will do the job nicely and leave a nice lemony scent in the room.
Usually, a regular dusting is all that is needed to keep your tables looking terrific. If they really need a deeper cleaning use a very mild dish soap that is diluted in water. You don't need a lot of soap. In the words of an old television commercial, "a little dab will do ya."
With just a little care and some light maintenance when your tables do get a nick or scratch, you should be able to keeping your furniture looking like new for years to come.

There's no doubt that there are a lot of end tables out there to choose from these days. Look online and you'll find literally thousands of different models to choose from. If your previous idea of a table was a board and some cinder blocks or hand me downs from your parent's house, then you probably are a bit bewildered about what's what in the world of end tables.
To help you, here's a little tutorial on the different kinds of materials end tables are made from.
First, there's wood. But not all wood is created equally. There are many different products sold as "wood" they aren't necessarily the solid woods you may be thinking of. This doesn't make them bad or even inferior. But before you go out and purchase "wood" end tables, you do want to know the difference.
Solid wood tables are just that, they are made of solid pieces of wood. They are by far the most substantial and to many homeowners, the most beautiful. Most reputable manufacturers still make end tables of wood, whether it's oak, cherry, mahogany or even more exotic woods, such as teak or eucalyptus.
Veneer is another good choice, but you need to know what the veneer is placed over. In most cases, the veneer is laid over a composite wood. That's not to say that veneer is any less desirable or well made. If you've ever seen a beautifully inlaid table, it may be made of veneers. This makes end tables much more affordable, since some woods are quite rare and having a table made of actual full pieces of wood from this rare stock would be prohibitively expensive.
That said, you can also purchase veneer that's placed over particleboard. This is typically done with less expensive pieces as particleboard isn't as strong as wood end tables or those that use composites. If you live in a humid climate they can also start to fall apart on you or swell over time.
Quality veneer used in end tables is usually very thin, often just 1/16" thick. This is actual hard wood, not imitations. There are, however, vinyl veneers. These use a type of photographic process to simulate the look of real wood. This is used on less expensive pieces of furniture.
There are plenty of tables out there that use no wood at all but are just as beautiful and well crafted. Popular materials are marble, glass, metals such as aluminum or steel… the list is endless.
Because materials can vary so greatly, you want to be sure of what you're buying. While it may be hard to figure it out in a brick and mortar store, most online retailers will gladly tell you what the tables are made from. They want to earn your trust and since you can't actually touch the furniture, they typically want to give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed buying decision. And since reputable dealers offer liberal return and exchange policies, you can have the products shipped to your house, inspect them just to be sure they are up to your standards, and return anything that doesn't pass muster. However, this is rare with online retailers, who know that their reputation is on the line whenever they make a sale.
While many people dismiss veneers as being inexpensive or poorly made, you'll quickly find that the selection of end tables with gorgeous and often highly ornate patterns are hardly cheap. They are worth every penny, however, certainly as much as any solid wood furnishings are and you'll be delighted with the lasting beauty they bring into your home.

Gardening is a great passion for many homeowners. Whether you're growing pots of flowers on your deck or have a huge garden in the yard filled with vegetables and fruits, teak garden benches can give you a delightful place to admire your handy work.
After all, why not let everyone who lives in or visits your home enjoy the beauty of nature doing what it does best, creating magnificent foliage, flowers and food for us all to enjoy. Teak garden benches are the ideal addition to any garden, even if you're just a casual weekend gardener.
That's because teak garden benches are both unobtrusive and durable. Because they are made of gorgeous wood that isn't stained or altered any way, they bring yet another natural element into the garden, something aluminum or wrought iron furnishings can't do.
They will also last and last. Because teak is such a strong wood, grown in the tropics, it is impervious to the elements. It won't crack, warp or even split. Instead, it will age gracefully, being there for you year after year as you prepare, tend and harvest the fruits of your labor.
As any gardener knows, gardening is hard work, particularly during the summer months. An occasional break isn't just good for you but necessary. Sure, you could haul out a cheap lawn chair or sit on the gardening stool. But why not relax instead in one of the teak garden benches you've placed strategically around the garden. There, you can recharge, have a little iced tea and marvel at the beauty of your garden, all from equally beautiful teak garden benches.
One of the great things about these benches is their low maintenance. You can choose to leave your benches out in the weather year after year and they'll continue to perform. That's because teak is so strong and it is naturally bug proof. If you choose not to oil it at all it will turn a lovely silver gray over time. With a little teak cleaner, you can bring back the honey gold color in an afternoon.
If you do have it out in the garden year round, you will want to put it on top of pavers or bricks to keep it out of any standing water. It will make your teak garden benches last that much longer.
Teak garden benches come in an endless array of styles, from more modern pieces without a back or arms to more traditional benches with backs and arms. Some even have rocker or glider features.
If you want to do something a little different, consider purchasing teak garden benches that can be hung from trees. Many models work perfectly well as swings, which add a little flair and fun to your garden.
If you want to really hit a home run in your garden, consider purchasing benches that have built-in planters. These offer you additional gardening space and brings the garden to the bench, so you can enjoy the fragrance of your favorite flowers right up close.
When selecting teak garden benches for your home, you may want to shop online for them. While local garden centers or home improvement stores may only have one or two models on hand, online retailers often have several dozen in stock, as well as accessory pieces such as matching planters, ottomans or chairs.
That's a welcomed thing, considering that you'll find many people gravitating to the garden to enjoy all your hard work and nature's bounty. Having enough seating will create a new space in your yard for you and your friends to relax, enjoy lively conversation and appreciate all the beauty around you.

Congratulations! You purchased some wonderful patio chairs for your deck, patio or balcony. Now you want to keep them looking like new, so you can enjoy them for years to come.
That's one of the wonderful things about quality patio chairs. Unlike their PVC counterparts found at discount houses and mass retailers, really good chairs are made to last.
And while they use top quality materials and are constructed using stringent quality controls, you still need to take care of your patio chairs using some simple maintenance.
The type of maintenance depends on the type of material your chairs are made of and the climate you're living in.
For example, wicker patio chairs tend to get a little dirtier than other styles of chairs. The weaving of the chair seems to capture dirt and hold onto it. This is particularly true if you live in a dusty locale. Dirt loves to roost in the spaces between the reeds. Eventually, this collection will make your patio chairs look grimy and glum.
Cleaning them is relatively straightforward. A pressure washer is a great tool. Mix a little soap and water to make a mixture and have at it. Don't be tempted to use the highest pressure setting you have. A low setting will do just fine and a higher setting can damage the weaving, weakening the chair. A garden hose can also fill the bill. Let the chair air dry out in the sun. This can take awhile as there is a lot of surface area that has to dry.
Wood patio chairs are much easier to clean. A simple mixture of water and soap will do. Use a soft brush or a clean cloth and wipe the entire surface down, then rinse it clean. You can do the same with the cushions. When they are clean stand them upright and let them air dry. If your wood is looking a little dry or dull, you may want to apply a little extra protection. If you have teak patio chairs, you may want to use teak cleaner to restore the chair to its original honey gold color. Northern white cedar and red furniture need even less attention and will age gracefully with nothing more than an additional cleaning with soap and water.
Metal patio chairs are easy to clean, too. Good old soap and water will do just fine. For any tight spots or ornamented pieces, use a soft brush to get into the nooks and crannies. While you're cleaning the patio chairs, look for any signs of rust. If there is any rust, use a wire brush to clean it or a bit of steel wool. Rust is a corrosive and you want to treat it aggressively or eventually it will weaken the metal, ruining your investment.
You can purchase specialized cleaners online or purchase them in your neighborhood home improvement store. However, in most cases, soap and water will do. If the dirt won't come out of your cushions or you discover a little mold or mildew, prepare a solution of one cup bleach in a gallon of water. Soak the cushions thoroughly, wipe clean and allow to air dry.
Never leave your cushions on your furniture after the outdoor season is through. Clean them thoroughly, allow them to air dry completely and then store in a dry place. While it might be tempting to store them inside bags, don't. This will encourage any mold or mildew spores that weren't removed to grow and flourish during the off-season. The best place for your cushions is a dry shelf in the garage or in the basement.

Coffee tables come in all shapes and sizes these days, but one of the coolest designs to come about in recent years is the lift top table.
Lift top coffee tables do a lot of nifty tricks and are perfect for almost any home. Whether you like to eat dinner in front of the home theater, need a little extra storage or simply want to add a little flexibility to your entertainment options, lift top coffee tables are the answer.
That's because these tables offer homeowners a lot of features. First and foremost is additional storage. Once you lift the top, you'll find hidden storage spaces that are easy to get at, allowing you to quickly pull out your favorite board game to play with friends or a blanket to snuggle up to a loved one with.
When choosing lift top coffee tables for your home, you want to think about a few things. These tables follow the same basic rules as any other coffee table. They should be no larger than two-thirds the length of a sofa or love seat. They should match the same general style of the rest of your furnishings and they should be level with the top of your cushions, or within two inches.
From there, you can go wild with choices. There are literally hundreds of models out on the market and you'll find it easy to find several that are perfect for your home.
To narrow your choices, you want to think about your lifestyle. First, how much storage does the table offer you and how easy is it to move the top of the table to get at the things you need. Second, is how would you use the tabletop itself.
This is one of the greatest things about lift top coffee tables. The top can also serve as a table. Many models allow the top to lift up and back, so it creates an impromptu table when you're sitting on the couch. This is perfect for enjoying a little dinner or even movie munchies during that latest blockbuster you've been dying to see.
It's also a great place for the kids to use. They can enjoy coloring, working on homework or playing video games in the same room you're in. No need for them to get stuck in their room or at the dining room kitchen table to do their work. The coffee table can handle these duties with aplomb.
Best of all, any number of kids can gather around the top. Several can sit on the couch while others can sit on ottomans or stools if they want to play a little Hungry, Hungry Hippos.
When the kids go to bed, you can have the table all to yourself. Lift the top of your coffee tables and do a little last minute work on that presentation you're giving tomorrow morning. While you do, you can catch up on the news.
Some of these coffee tables are extremely ingenious in how the tops work. Some cantilever out while others lift and spin. The engineering is amazing.
To narrow your choice of coffee tables, you may want to start online. Retailers there have a huge selection and it's easy to use keywords to find just what you're looking for. You can shop by manufacturer, by style, size or features. And once you find the perfect coffee tables for your home, you can buy them right there, on the spot. A lot of online retailers offer free shipping so you don't even have to pick them up. Just place your order, way a bit and in no time the lift top coffee tables you always wanted will be delivered right to your doorstep.

Article Title: Choosing Round Kitchen Tables For Your Home

Round kitchen tables have been a traditional gathering place in homes throughout the world for centuries. Why, even the knights in Camelot gathered around a round table, though it's lost to history whether Guinevere ever made dinner for them there.
Still, what's good for King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table certainly is good for we commoners and round kitchen tables are a delight to have in your home, not only for their beauty but their ability to bring families together.
In contrast to a rectangular dining room table, which is very formal, round kitchen tables are very informal affairs that can still be dressed up when the occasion warrants. They also promote lively conversation far better than a rectangular table, since everyone can see everyone else at the table without leaning forward or backward to carry on a conversation.
Round kitchen tables also make a room look a little more spacious, since there is additional air between the walls and the table. If you've ever sat in a cramped dining room with a rectangular table and chairs, you know who tight the fit can be, particularly during the holidays.
When choosing round kitchen tables for your home, here are some things you want to consider.
Table Diameter – The diameter needs to be small enough to fit in the room you have for it, but large enough to seat the required number of people around it without it feeing cramped. This can be a delicate balancing act. A good way to get a good gauge on fit is to lay out a circle of paper or masking tape 'X' of the desired size. Use some existing chairs to make sure you can leave the table without running into a wall. If you're getting chairs with armrests, factor this into your measurements.
Style – This is another important consideration. Not only should your round kitchen tables match the décor of your kitchen or dining area, but also it can be further influenced by the size of the table and the number of people you want to set around it. For example, a pedestal table doesn't have any legs to maneuver around, making it easier to seat guests a little more tightly. The same is true of straight legs vs. highly ornamented legs that may jut out beyond the diameter of the table.
Height – Round kitchen tables come in different heights, from traditional heights to bistro and even pub tables, which can be quite high. A higher table can make a room feel a bit more crowded, but less formal as well.
Material – Now you have the diameter and height worked out as well as the style. All that's left is to decide on the material used. With round kitchen tables you have a little more latitude in this area. For example, you can go with a darker wood or lovely veneer for a more formal look, or go with a glass or tile top for something far more informal.
A good way to narrow your choices for round kitchen tables is to shop online. This has the added benefit that all the measurements are right there next to the photos. This makes it easy to see what will fit in your house. You can copy and paste your favorites to your computer; print them out and finalize your decision. Just remember which store the item came from. If you shop too long, you may forget where you found that table and have to start all over again.

Article Title: Patio Tables For Year Round Enjoyment

Patio tables offer homeowners a place to enjoy their porch or patio year round. It wasn't so long ago that the great outdoors could only be enjoyed seasonally, but with today's screened-in patios, covered porches, gazebos and decks, it's not uncommon to find families gathered outside for a meal 365 days a year.
While you used to be able to get away with a simple picnic table, regular entertainment outdoors demands something a little more user friendly. Fortunately, manufacturers saw this trend some time ago and created lines of beautiful patio tables that are every bit as lovely as their indoor counterparts.
Patio tables can go anywhere, from poolside to the garden and they come in all sizes and shapes.
One of the newest trends is patio tables that are taller. These are often known as pub tables. They comfortably seat two to six and have matching chairs that are also higher. They offer homeowners a nice, casual place to have a drink, get a bite to eat or even play a game in the warm summer weather. They are great near a barbecue area where you need to keep watch on your grill while still entertaining.
Of course, what outdoor space is complete without patio tables for eating? Large outdoor dining room tables can seat up to a dozen comfortably these days, allowing all your guests to enjoy the food and company around a single table. You can even get patio tables with leafs, so you can adjust the size to meet the needs of the crowds you're expecting. Just be sure to add an umbrella if you're not already undercover to keep the sun off your guests while they dine.
Another great option for patio tables are smaller bistro tables. These are terrific for several guests to enjoy their time together and you can actually get several bistro tables so they can be spread around the yard or deck to create casual conversation getaways. These also work well around the pool, giving family and guests a place to set their drink, sunscreen and sunglasses while they take a dip.
One of the great things about patio tables is you can mix and match them. You can select a singular look, say built around a specific design or material, and add specific pieces to your outdoor areas, such as a large dining table on the deck, a matching bistro table and smaller accent tables near the chairs or chaises.
Speaking of accent tables; that's one of the best things about patio tables today. They come in a range of sizes, so you can choose tables that match the needs of specific places outdoors. For example, you can select accent tables that will fit perfectly between two chairs or chaises, providing sun-worshippers with a convenient place to put a book down or to refresh themselves with a cold drink.
If you're having trouble finding just the right tables in your local store you may want to go online. Selection is broad and deep online and you'll be able to not only choose a style, but select several different tables all in the same family of design, finish, color or material. Most reputable online retailers offer free shipping, an added bonus, especially if you have a small car instead of a pickup. No need to borrow or rent a truck.
When you're planning your outdoor spaces, remember to keep them flexible. People like to move their furniture around to follow the sun or the fun and you don't want to cram your deck or patio so full of furniture that it's tough to get comfortable. And be sure you leave well thought out traffic spaces so people can easily move from the house, out on the deck or patio and down into the yard.

While wood patio furniture can be made of virtually any wood imaginable, the vast majority of wood patio furniture is made from three woods: red cedar, northern white cedar and teak.
Each of these has their own unique qualities. The type of wood you choose depends largely on your own personal tastes as well as your locale. Some woods respond better to different climates, so they will age better and last longer.
Cedar has been the choice of homeowners for years when it comes to wood patio furniture. The best thing about cedar is that it doesn't easily decay or rot. Even though it's a relatively lightweight wood, it has a lot of character and can fend off the weather with ease.
Northern white cedar won't warp or shrink no matter what the weather is like in your area. Red cedar won't warp either, if it is cut on the grain. While northern white cedar is a quality material, it won't last quite as long as red cedar. The latter contains acidic tannins that act as a natural preservative. However, with a couple coats of preservative, white northern cedar wood patio furniture will last a long time. In fact, you may tire of it long before it falls apart on you.
Both of these types of cedar won't shrink over time. They will tend to crack a bit with time. This is natural and won't really affect the lifespan of your wood patio furniture. Red cedar is great for picnic tables, benches and patio gliders. It also can be used for armchairs and swings. White cedar is almost as versatile, but tends to be more popular for benches, log furniture and Adirondack chairs.
When new, red cedar has a characteristic dark red to light brown color. It can also be a honey brown. It readily accepts a finish, such as a stain. But you may just want to let it age and gain character naturally. Eventually it will turn silver gray, much like its northern white cedar counterparts.
The warm, rich tones of red and northern white cedar woods will add a lot of beauty to your deck, patio or balcony. They will also look great in the yard in their own grouping, such around a fire pit or in a gazebo. If you set them on the ground you may want to put them on a small concrete pad to keep them out of the dirt. It will extend their life.
The other popular option is teak. In contrast to the teak of old, much of the teak sold today and used in wood patio furniture is grown and harvested from sustainable forests. So you can enjoy the rich beauty of teak without feeling bad that you're destroying the environment.
Teak is an extremely hard wood and is impervious to most weather and insects. It will age beautifully if you don't treat it, taking on a silvery gray sheen as it ages. If you still want to maintain the original beauty and luster of the wood, use some Danish oil or teak oil to nourish the wood. This is the same stuff that mariners use to keep their teak decks looking pristine out on the salt water. It will restore the rich color and also protect the wood. It only needs to be done once a year or two - whenever the teak starts to look a little dry.
There are other great wood choices out there today as well, including eucalyptus and bamboo. You just really can't go wrong with wood patio furniture no matter what wood you choose.

Outdoor wicker patio furniture is one of the most popular choices for today's homes, largely because of its timeless beauty and durable nature.
Part of the reason for this is the construction process itself. If you're buying traditional rattan outdoor wicker furniture (you can also get wicker that is made of manmade materials and bamboo), you'll be pleased to know that the rattan pole is actually very tough.
Once it is split into smaller pieces using a machine, it's placed in a big steam box. This softens the rattan so it can be bent into shape by a jig. The jig is different for each type of furniture and it determines how a particular piece needs to be bent. As the rattan cools it stays in the shape of the jig. Once the joints are sealed, the entire piece of rattan furniture is sanded down to remove rough spots and splits. A little stain gives the furniture a nice appearance.
All outdoor wicker patio furniture is not created equally. Some are higher quality than others and often a production line can turn out a top quality and lower quality piece at the same time. Part of this is due to the tightness and density of the weave as well as the quality of the rattan itself.
Humans do the final work in this regard. Each piece is inspected to grade the quality. Inferior pieces are sent to discount houses while the best ones are sold by online and brick and mortar furniture stores that are known for their quality. That's why you may see an identical piece of outdoor wicker patio furniture at a discount store that is cheaper. It really is cheaper when it comes to quality and won't hold up as well as a higher grade piece. During this final review process, any imperfections are fixed by hand, including any splits and discolorations.
As noted, outdoor wicker patio furniture can use a range of materials. The term wicker only refers to the process used to create the furniture, not the materials used. Outdoor wicker furniture can actually be made of bamboo, reed, synthetics, willow or rattan.
One reason why wicker is a perennial favorite is its tropical look. Homeowners wishing to create a little tropical oasis at home will find outdoor wicker patio furniture to be the perfect solution.
It's also popular because it is fairly lightweight. Even a large sectional or sofa can be moved around with relative ease. The light weight doesn't mean it's of inferior quality to wood or metal furnishings. Far from it. The weaving process actually makes this type of furniture extremely strong.
If you do have traditional rattan outdoor wicker patio furniture, you will want to make sure it is either covered or stored during the rainy months. An occasional shower won't damage it at all, but over time the harsh elements can conspire to weaken the weave and make the furniture feel a little wobbly.
While wicker furniture dates back to the ancient Egypt, it has managed to continually reinvent itself over the generations. In the US wicker furniture was brought to the country by European immigrants and the style caught on with others. Over time, many pieces were created that emulated traditional furnishings, that's why it's not uncommon to find sofas, love seats, chairs, chaises and tables in outdoor wicker patio furniture.
With new production techniques, manufacturers have taken outdoor wicker patio furniture to new heights. With the introduction of synthetics and new finishes as well as fabrics for cushions, this furniture comes in an endless variety of colors and styles, one that will fit well into the outdoor entertainment spaces of nearly every home.

If you've shopped for patio furniture then you know that there are two types of patio furniture cushions. Those are those that are an integral part of the furniture you've selected, much like the furniture in your home, and then there are cushions that can be purchased after market that can either replace your existing cushions or be added to a piece of furniture that didn't originally have them.
If you're shopping for patio furniture that has cushions, you may want to start your search online. While local home improvement and patio furniture stores may have fewer than a half dozen options to choose from, online stores often have greater selection, not only of styles, but of fabric colors for your patio furniture cushions.
Most of the patio furniture cushions today have an acrylic or acrylic/polyester blend fabric. This allows them to repel water and resist fading under normal use. Cushions can also be covered with a canvas-like material or cloth as well, especially with more expensive pieces of outdoor furniture. The best quality padding is polyester because it dries more quickly if it gets wet.
Thanks to innovative manufacturing techniques, these fabrics won't have that plastic feel of less expensive furniture. The feel is more like spun cotton: soft, smooth and very welcoming.
The nice thing about these types of cushions is that they are easy to maintain. When they start to look a bit dingy, simply hose them off or use a mix of water and mild detergent to remove tougher stains.
If you're looking for furniture with furniture cushions already integrated into their design, the selection is fabulous.
When shopping for furniture with cushions, you may be amazed at the rainbow of colors available these days, particularly online. Many furniture sellers stock a wide range of traditional and fashion colors as well as patterns, so you can create just the look you've been searching for. Many pieces can even be custom manufactured, allowing you to specify the color of the patio furniture cushions as well as the color of the furniture itself.
The thickness of the cushions may also come into play in your decision-making. Some people find it difficult to get out of overly thick patio furniture cushions. You may want to go with something that is of medium thickness so that you can enjoy long hours relaxing and entertaining outside without getting sore. If the patio furniture cushions are too thin, you may find they're not comfortable and that the hard surface of the chair, sofa or loveseat can be felt.
When you're shopping for cushions for existing pieces of furniture, pay close attention to the specifications, including the height, width and depth. You want to make sure they will fit on the piece of furniture. The old rule of "measure twice, order once" is sage advice.
If you have traditional Adirondack furniture, you can even get cushions for them. They come in a variety of fabrics too, from solid colors to stripes and patterns. These patio furniture cushions can give your patio, porch, balcony or garden area an entirely new look. You can mix and match colors or styles, or go with a single selection to tie the entire furniture collection together.
If you're worried about the cost of shipping, don't. Some online furniture stores offer free shipping on your order so you don't have to worry about paying a lot for shipping and handling, especially if you're placing an order for a lot of patio furniture cushions in a customized pattern or color.
One thing's for sure. The right style and color of cushions can really transform your outdoor spaces, creating an oasis of relaxation right in your own back yard.

The Big Three of outdoor furnishings are red cedar, northern white cedar and teak. While cedar is nice, when it comes to great furniture that is luxurious and durable, you can't go wrong with outdoor teak patio furniture.
This is especially true if you live in climates where the weather can turn from a bright sunny day to a downpour in no time at all. Teak is an extremely hard wood that can really take a licking and still perform for years, even decades, to come.
Teak comes from the highlands of Southeast Asia. It's classified as a deciduous hardwood and it's very high in natural oils, which prevents it from rotting or breaking down, even in really harsh climates.
For centuries teak was the wood of choice for shipbuilders around the word who valued teak for its strength, endurance and beauty. Even today, you'll find teak decks on historic and modern vessels.
Outdoor teak patio furniture captures some of the beauty of these finely crafted decks and properly accessorized, you could even add a little nautical flavor to your deck, patio or balcony with the right outdoor teak patio furniture and some maritime accents.
Even if you're not a sailor at heart you can still enjoy the stunning beauty and long lasting quality of teak. If you're worried about stripping the rainforests of all the teak, don't worry. The vast majority of quality outdoor teak furniture is made with woods from eco-friendly, sustainable forests.
Outdoor teak patio furniture comes in an endless selection of styles, from intimate bistro tables and quaint settees to expansive dining room tables that seat up to a dozen. You can furnish your entire deck, patio or balcony with teak and never buy two pieces that are exactly the same, there's that much variety.
If you visit a local home improvement store or patio store, this may not appear to be so. But if you shop online you can find literally hundreds of pieces of outdoor teak patio furniture in all sizes, shapes and price points.
Teak isn't really any more expensive than other patio furnishings. While the initial cost may seem higher, when it's amortized over the life of the furniture - teak tends to last a lot longer - then it's very competitively priced.
If you're looking online you can find even better bargains. Many retailers will put outdoor teak patio furniture on sale from time to time and you can get it at a good discount. You have to be patient if you want a good deal, but they are out there.
Teak is easy to maintain, too. Annually you can give it a good treatment of teak or Danish oil to nourish the wood and help it retain its warm honey color. If you choose not to treat it, that's OK The silver gray color doesn't mean it's rotting or even getting old. It's simply a natural change in color as the oil leaches out of the wood. If you do want to preserve it, you can purchase Danish oil from any home improvement store. A good marine grade teak oil is better than the stuff you find at these stores. So if you have a marine supply store near you, you may want to purchase the teak oil there.
Though outdoor teak patio furniture will make it through the harsh weather, you may want to cover it or take it inside if you have the room. It will protect your investment in your patio furnishings and keep them looking like new longer.

It wasn't so long ago that patio furniture replacement cushions were hard to find. Usually you had to do your own handy work. That's because the cushions usually lasted longer than the furniture.
But things have changed a lot over the years. Today's finely crafted outdoor furnishings can last years if not decades if properly cared for. Even though the cushions may be equal in quality, the elements will eventually conspire against them to the point that they will need to be replaced.
The reason is simple. As with all cushions, even the best made ones for outdoor furniture will eventually show wear spots, get stains that simply won't come out and lose their resiliency. They will no longer spring back into place when you get up, but rather, remain sunken.
If you need patio furniture replacement cushions, know that there is plenty of selection. The first stop, of course, is your local home improvement store or patio store. If you have really nice outdoor furniture, you may find the selection limited, however.
With the price of gas, you could save yourself some time and money going online instead. There are plenty of top-notch retailers on the Internet these days that sell patio furniture replacement cushions.
One the benefits of shopping online is that you can often custom order your cushions. This means you can select the colors, the patterns and sometimes, even the fabric.
When ordering patio furniture replacement cushions you need to be careful to ensure they will fit. To guarantee a good fit, measure your existing cushions, including their width, depth and thickness. As you shop for cushions, keep these measurements in mind, but there are some ways you can "cheat" the system.
For instance, if you have a three-cushion sofa, you could possibly turn it into a two cushion if you find the right sized replacement cushions. You may also find that a back cushion for one type of furniture may fit the seat of yours.
Of course, if you bought a name brand set, it can be a lot easier to purchase patio furniture replacement cushions down the road. That's because that same manufacturer will be around in the years to come and there is some measure of standardization that comes with going with a well-known manufacturer.
If you need new cushions, you can start with the tags on your current set. A lot of times the manufacturer has a number you can call if you need to reorder from a dealer. It's probably not worth your time contacting the manufacturer directly as they often don't deal with customers.
If you're looking online for patio furniture replacement cushions, start by searching for "replacement patio cushions" or "new patio furniture cushions". These should get you started on your journey and within a few minutes you should be able to find just what you're looking for.
If you can't find the exact color of the old cushions, don't worry. Like any fashion, colors change over time. This actually could be the chance to find new colors that perhaps match your new décor or the new look of your home.
When you're looking for patio furniture replacement cushions, try to get ones with poly filling. While it may be tempting to buy foam cushions, like those in your home, they act like a sponge outdoors and will stay wet long after a brief shower has past. The poly fill dries quickly and readily returns to its original shape.
Once you get your patio furniture replacement cushions, be sure you do preventative maintenance on them. This includes cleaning them every season and applying a water resistant coating on them before putting them away for the winter. Your patio furniture replacement cushions will last a lot longer if you store them inside during the off season. Just be sure that you don't bag them as they can get mildewed if they're not allowed to breathe.

Coffee tables aren't something you really think about in a living room. But proper living room coffee arrangement is an imperative, as the scale, location and type of table can make or break an otherwise perfect setting.
Still, few homeowners really give much consideration to proper living room coffee table arrangement or even the coffee table itself. While hours are spent selecting just the right sofa, sectional, love seat or chair, the coffee table gets little attention.
However, there is a lot of science that goes into this table arrangement. Like the old story of Goldilocks, you don't want a table that is too big or too small, but rather, one that is just right. And that not only means in height and length, but in placement and scale.
The perfect living room table arrangement isn't hard to achieve, if you know the secrets.
Scale
This is perhaps one of the most important considerations. You don't want to create a table arrangement that feels too cramped. The length of the table is very important. A basic rule of thumb is that the coffee table should be two-thirds the length of the sofa. So if your sofa is nine feet the table should be six feet, or even a bit less. If you have an L-shaped sectional, you want to go a little smaller. Measure from the end of the sectional to the spot where it turns. Then get a table that is two-thirds of this length.
Height
The right table arrangement also factors in the height. The table shouldn't be too low or too high. Ideally you want the coffee table to be one or two inches lower than the top of the seat of the sofa or sectional. Tables come in different heights, so you want to make sure you take this into consideration. Most are between 16" and 18" high, but there are models that go higher and lower.
Distance
This is perhaps one of the most important considerations when figuring out the perfect living room table arrangement. You don't want the table to be too far or too close. Most designers and space planners suggest that the coffee table be 18" away from the sofa. If you have an L-shaped sectional, that goes for the entire distance around. That's why it's important to get the scale of the table right and follow the two-thirds rule. There is some wiggle room in this rule, primarily for the new tables that lift up and over to create a table. You may have to adjust the distance a bit with these. To do this, open the table up and sit down on the sofa. Figure out what a comfortable placement is, then adjust the distance a bit. While the 18" rule is nice, if the table ends up halfway into the sofa and pins you there, it's not going to work.
The right coffee table
Finally, when deciding on a table, you want to think about the coffee table itself. How does it fit into the style of the décor? Does the color complement the woods of your other furnishings? Is the coffee table going to be primarily for looks or should it be more functional? If it's to be functional, do you want it for storage, for eating, entertaining or simply to hold a bunch of books you've collected?
As you determine your needs and find a coffee table that fits those as well as the space available, you'll be able to find the ideal table much easier and it will end up looking as if it were made just for your home.

Article Title: Wicker Patio Furniture: A Timeless Choice

The origins of wicker furniture can be traced all the way back to the Egyptian Empire where furniture was made from the woven reeds and swamp grasses that grew along the Nile. While not one is sure Cleopatra ever lounged around on wicker patio furniture - or even had a patio for that matter - many homes enjoyed the timeless beauty of wicker patio furniture.
The actual term wicker is something of a misnomer. While many people associate wicker patio furniture with rattan, the traditional material this type of furniture is made from, the word actually refers to the weave itself. Wicker furniture can be made of out virtually any material that can be woven from natural materials like rattan and bamboo to plastics.
If you're lucky enough to choose rattan for your wicker patio furniture, you'll be overjoyed with its beauty, quality and durability. Rattan is a pretty amazing material that is strong and resilient. While it is pliable when it is heated, when it cools it will keep its shape.
As such, the furniture is a great solution for the deck, patio or balcony. The natural appearance of the rattan lends itself well to the outdoors, creating a connection between nature and your furniture. It nicely bridges the gap between formal and informal décor. It can be dressed up or dressed down to suit your own tastes.
Of course, its durability is another great selling point. It is really strong. Properly maintained, wicker patio furniture will last a long time, especially if it's kept on a covered patio or balcony or in a sunroom. That's because it is naturally resistant to the elements, especially moisture and mold. In most cases, all you need to do is wipe your wicker patio furniture off with a cloth or dust it occasionally.
The waterproof nature of wicker also means that if you spill something on it, the liquid will tend to just drip right through to the floor. With other woods, it may cause a stain, but not on wicker.
Even though wicker furniture looks substantial, it's easy to move it around. That's a real bonus if you like to rearrange the patio furniture now and then to suit your entertainment style.
Some manufacturers have taken wicker furniture to new heights, mixing traditional wicker with other materials. This can give the wicker a very fashion forward appearance that still have classic elements. For example, you may find a lovely wicker table to have a smoked glass top.
Other designs are modern or contemporary in their approach. They offer homeowners an updated look that is minimalist in design, but decadent in beauty and comfort. Today, you can get a wide range of wicker patio furniture, including chaises, sectionals, chairs, sofas, loveseats and tables.
If the furniture is done in an artificial rattan, don't think of it as being inexpensive. Artificial rattan offers additional benefits that natural rattan can't. It's particularly well suited to extremely harsh climates, as it is fade resistant and can take high temperatures with ease. An added bonus or wicker patio furniture made or artificial rattan is that it can be made in different fashionable colors that fit a wide range of décor.
The ability to get colored wicker furniture allows you to mix and match textures and colors, including the cushions. Many furniture retailers, particularly those online, allow you to custom order the wicker furniture right down to the cushion colors and sometimes, even the color of the wicker.
Wicker patio furniture is a great choice for today's homes. It manages to offer superior quality, comfort and timeless style in a package that is also durable and long lasting. Best of all, it is virtually maintenance free.

Article Title: Replacement Patio Furniture Cushions - Knowing When to Say When

When you've put a lot of money into your home furnishings, it can be really hard to say goodbye. This is particularly true out on the patio, where you may have only been using your furniture seasonally instead of year round. As such, you think there's more useful life left to your cushions than there really is.
Thankfully, replacement patio furniture cushions are easy to get and knowing when it's time to order replacement patio furniture cushions can keep your outdoor spaces inviting and welcoming for years to come.
First, look at your existing cushions. If they don't spring back or look flat, it could be time to replace them. Even the best patio furniture cushions last only 7 to 10 years. The elements can really wear them down, even if you take good care of them. If they look flat or the edges are round when they should be square, it's time to get replacement patio furniture cushions.
If you take good care of your cushions, clean them regularly and store them inside in the off season, keeping them out of the elements, then they should remain mold and mildew free. If mold and mildew creeps in somehow, give them a thorough cleaning. If it's still a problem, especially in the padding, it may be time to get rid of the cushions. Just be sure the new cushions are mold and mildew resistant. Some bargain replacement patio furniture cushions won't be.
Your cushions could look just fine but they may have become a dumping ground for allergens, from pet dander to fungal spores, soil and dust. Some flame retardants can also trigger allergic reactions, especially in older foam products that used PBDEs. If your furniture was purchased before 2006 and someone in your family is having allergic reactions, you may want to get replacement patio furniture cushions.
Over the years, your cushions may show signs of natural wear and tear. Even the highest quality cushions will eventually hold onto stains no matter what you do and begin to show signs of the fabric wearing through, becoming thin or unraveling. If this is the case, you don't have many options expect to replace the cushions as the fabric has outlived its life expectancy.
Often, your cushions may just need to be replaced because you want a new look. As you know, patio furniture can be a sizable investment. Instead of replacing the furnishings themselves, you can order replacement patio furniture cushions to give your patio, deck or balcony an entirely new look.
Many retailers, especially those online, allow you to choose from a wide range of fabrics and colors, even patterns when ordering replacement patio furniture cushions. In some cases you can even order custom replacement cushions, especially if your particular furnishings appear to have odd measurements or shapes. That said, you may be surprised to find a wide variety of choices out in the market already, if not at your nearby store then online, where selection is wide and year round.
Replacement patio furniture cushions may be just what you needed to give a tired looking outdoor space a lively new look that will reconnect with the great outdoors and your patio furniture in the process.
Just be sure that when you shop for replacement patio furniture cushions you make sure they are of good quality. Don't be tempted to buy cushions that have foam padding inside or are made of a fabric that either won't last or won't keep the water out. Nothing puts a damper on a party outdoors than sopping wet cushions. Invest in the best cushions you can afford and make sure they are water and stain resistant.
