Getting to know your body is an aha! experience a big wow. The nature of the energy in the body itself as a constant force, in continual state of movement and flux. You are like a human battery. Everything is electric. Everything has a charge. Your body is a field of energy that radiates out twelve feet according to science.
This electricity is organized in highly complex and specific pathways. In orthodox or allopathic medicine these are called tracts, in Chinese medicine, meridans, and in Ayurveda, chakras or marma points. When these electricity bundles or pathways become jangled, clogged, under stimulated or blocked in anyway, the body lose its dynamic and ever changing balance . This balance effects and includes everything especially the nervous system, digestion, and circulatory system muscles and joints.
Integrative medicine employs electricity rebalancing as one of its most effective treatments to eliminate allergies. this treatment has many benefits, including being able to desensitize common and rare allergies. Other benefits include relaxation of the nervous system, increased circulation and gentle detoxification, and increased efficiency of the electric and subtle energy systems. Again, when the allergic code is broken in the electric body, you become allergy free.
Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese medicine believe that these meridians or microscopic pathways transport energy throughout the body and are its source of vitality. This energy is called chi or Qi (pronounced chee), and is literally translated as air or life force. There are two main types of Qi: the life force you are born with and the Qi you get from sleep, food and fresh air. Allergens can disturb and trigger reactions from the meridian system millions of times a day. When the reaction is big enough to jam the electricity in the meridian channels and cause chemical disturbances in the body, we call it an allergy. The meridian energy system is used to treat the problem, to bring the body back to normal as quickly as possible with least amount of invasion. Meridian treatments are given using acupressure -no needles! this is a big reason why these treatments are so effective on children.
Chinese medicine is based on Qi, yin/yang, and a belief in the five basic elements: fire, water, ether, earth and air. These are the five basic elements all humans, animate and inanimate beings. In the British Medical Journal in 1937, Sir Thomas Lewis reported that he had found physical evidence of "unknown nervous system". This system, he said, was composed of minute lines. this energy lines branched from the surface of the skin connecting bowels and organs. What Lewis found for the West was the meridian system, known by eastern health practitioners for thousands of years.
Ayurveda (ah your-Vay-dah) also known as the science of life is a comprehensive medical system that is believed to be over six thousand years old. It focuses on the subtle energies in all things, but also in thoughts, emotions, and actions. Each persons' state of health is based in the relationship of the three vital energy systems called Doshas (DOH-shahs)which are the nervous system, digestive systems and the tissue of the body. Ayurveda does not present the idea that disease is caused by microorganism, germs and / or pollen. diseases state is caused when there is weakness or disturbance to one or more of the dosha energy systems, which locks the body into dis-ease.

Headaches, insomnia, anxiety and constipation have the same root cause which is a vata imbalance according to ayurveda. Until recently modern Western medicine believed that health was simply the absence of disease. Illness was caused purely by something outside the body, the way a hammer hitting your toe causes pain—viruses caused colds, allergens caused allergies, stress caused anxiety, carcinogens caused cancer, and so on. The solution was to find the right pill and the disease would be cured.
But today we know that the seeds of illness are sown way before obvious symptoms appear. The absence of a readily diagnosable disease is no longer the definition of health—people want to feel good, not just "not bad." The hammer-hitting-the-toe model of disease doesn't explain the wide variation in people's abilities to resist illness or recover from illness. When you encounter a cold virus, you have only one chance in eight of getting a cold. Seven out of eight times your mind-body is able to defend itself. Clearly the virus is only one small factor—the state of your general health is paramount.
By focusing on physical cause and effect Western medicine has looked at individual organs in isolation, as separate from one another and from the mind and spirit. By way of contrast ancient civilizations were intimately in touch with their nonphysical selves and had rich inner lives. They knew what modern science is just now starting to realize: The mind and body are so connected as to be indistinguishable from each other. In many ways modern science is only beginning to catch up with Ayurveda. In many ways modern science is only beginning to catch up with Ayurveda. For example research is discovering that certain people are constitutionally prediposed to certain illnesses, and proving that lifestyle practices and gentle herbal medicines can make a huge difference in our ability to resist disease, recover from illness, and extend our lives. That's exactly what the ancient science of Ayurveda has been saying for thousands of years. Headaches, insomnia, anxiety and constipation have the same root cause which is a vata imbalance and this is an example of genetic predisposition according to body type.

Article Title: Age of Convergence? Not For Designers

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
For the last 10 years, internet visionaries, tech company CEOs and media moguls have told us we're in an "Age of Convergence" that will change the way we live, learn and interact with each other. Indeed, things have changed. But if you're involved in web design or any other type of interactive media, you probably haven't noticed much of anything "converging." In fact, design requirements are more diverse than ever.
When luminaries and tech writers talk about convergence, they mean that devices are becoming more multi-functional (browse the web on your Wii ) and networks are becoming more interconnected (see your bank balance on your phone). In this "Age of Convergence" all the world's text, audio and video is set free, allowing you to access anything from anywhere.
So technology is converging, but is design? Not so much. Compared to 10 years ago, there are actually far more, not fewer, design considerations. Here is a short summary of three ways in which the last 10 years have created diverging design requirements.
Variety of Screen Sizes
In the early days of the internet, the size of people's screens didn't vary all that much. Most screens were one of three sizes: 640×480, 800×600 or 1024×768. The variety of screens has exploded in the last few years.
In February of 2008, the people who visited OrbitMedia.com used 27 different screen sizes. In the last two years that number doubled to 57 different screen sizes, ranging from the tiny (320 pixels wide) to the huge (2560 pixels wide).
With the rollout of tablets, such as Apple's iPad, there is now another screen size to think about, smaller than a laptop, bigger than a phone. This is the so-called "fifth screen" (the first four were the movie screen, TV screen, computer screen and phone/PDA screen). But the tablet computer isn't just a new size, it's a new touchscreen. More about that in a minute…
Designing for Integration
Someday in the future, you may log into your TV using Facebook and read what your friend said about a movie before watching it. Sounds great! But what will that interface look like?
Everyone likes to use the word "seamless" when they talk about integration. But when done right, seamlessness is like visual surgery. Designers are the surgeons, carefully grafting the parts together.
As more systems connect, it's the designers who make it look right and easy to use.
* For web designers, it's often embedding the Twitter feed, video player, photo gallery, Google maps.
* For web application designers, it's often about displaying information from external databases.
But as the age of convergence marches on, there is increasingly little difference between web sites and web applications.
More (Touch)screens in More Places
Used a touchscreen lately? Do you have one in your pocket? You probably have used one in an airport. What about a taxi, bar, office lobby or museum? Designing for touchscreens is becoming more common and this means designs need to adapt: fingertip-sized buttons, more sliding interfaces and no rollovers.
The tablets will bring a new type of touchscreen design, especially to media and content companies. Sports Illustrated has big plans for a touchscreen-friendly table version of its magazine (see the demo here). This is pretty exciting. Looks like interface designers and the video producers are going to be good friends!
And That's Not All…
Here are a few other examples of new design requirements, thanks to technological convergence:
* Mobile Device Sensors
Mobile App designers often create interfaces that use sensors within the device. Apps like FourSquare show where you are using GPS. Apps like UrbanSpoon use the accelerometer – physically shake the phone to get a restaurant recommendation.
* Video and Advertising Content
Designers are merging ads and promotions into video content in just about every way you can imagine: interstitial ads (on TV and online, banner ads on YouTube clips, webisodes, vlogs, sponsored video channels and video-based ad units.)
* Digital Signage
You may have noticed there are suddenly a lot more screens in public places. Although they may not be interactive, designers are needed to make all those videos and animations we see in the elevators and on the sides of busses.
Bottom Line
As the promise of converging technology is realized and we can all see whatever we want from wherever we are, screens will continue to multiply in all shapes and sizes. Designers have more things to think about and their role is more important than ever.
So when a company asks for a website that looks good on phones AND home theater systems, or a tool that works on tablet touch screens AND inside Facebook, someone has to design it. How will they do it? Hopefully, with a thoughtful, deliberate approach and plenty of usability testing!
Let's enjoy this age of convergence, but let's also listen carefully to design experts. The work they do is more challenging and important than ever.

When I think of the perfect holiday, my mind immediately turns to white sandy beaches and lounging poolside with a drink in my hand being waited on by attentive staff at a beautiful five star resort. This is what I was dreaming about when I began searching for a family vacation earlier this year. My husband Stan and I wanted to take our two children with us to a luxurious five star resort where we could rest and rejuvenate while having some fun together as a family.
Once we had chosen the dates that we could get away, I immediately began looking for vacation specials that would fit within our budget. After hours of searching it became clear to me that my idea of a five star resort vacation would not be possible. There were simply no holiday specials that fit within our budget, either at a resort or a vacation rental property.
After weeks of combing the internet for vacation specials, I was ready to throw in the towel. My visions of white sandy beaches, relaxing by the pool and five start accommodations were quickly slipping through my fingers. Our budget was just not going to allow for that type of holiday; I was going to have to make major compromises for our dream family holiday, or give up altogether.
Fortunately for my family, I just happened to mention my struggle in finding vacation specials to my good friend, Jessica. Instead of feeling badly for me and offering me condolences, to my surprise, Jessica just laughed at me. She could not believe that I was wasting my time searching for luxury holidays that my family of four could afford on traditional holiday websites. After I got over the shock of her laughter, I insisted that she tell me everything that she knew about vacation specials, because I was obviously missing something.
Once she started to tell me about vacation memberships, it seemed so simple, but I was still hesitant. I couldn't believe that it was possible to save thousands of dollars on a family vacation and still stay at a five star resort. As Jessica began explaining the process to me, I got more and more excited. I couldn't believe that a vacation membership was her secret to all of the fabulous holiday specials she had enjoyed over the last few years.
She told me about discount flights from a variety of different airlines and access to amazing resorts and vacation rental properties at a fraction of the price offered on traditional vacation websites. I got more and more excited and I couldn't wait to check it out for myself, so I excused myself and rushed home to investigate.
This time when I sat down in front of my computer, I started searching for vacation specials a little differently. I began looking into the potential of vacation memberships and I was shocked by what I found! I quickly purchased a vacation membership for myself and within minutes I was sifting through dozens of potential vacation specials that were not only everything that I had wanted for our family holiday, but more!
Only three short weeks after I purchased my vacation membership, my family and I were settled in our chaise lounge chairs, with drinks in hand at a five star resort that normally would have been way out of our price range. But instead of blowing our budget on our family holiday, we actually saved money, allowing us to book another five star holiday getaway during Spring break!

Vacation time and the kids have decided they want to go skiing this year. I know what you are thinking, expensive. Well it doesn't have to be. There are a variety of things you can do to save money. Many resorts cater to families and offer attractive deals in an attempt to get your business. With all the information available deciding on a resort is easier than ever.
The first place to look when planning a ski holiday is the internet. Almost every ski area will have a website. First of all, decide what area you would like to go. Do you prefer the cruising runs of the east or the high peaks and open bowls you find out west? Once you have decided this you can start to look for facilities the resorts in you preferred area offer. If you have any beginners going on the vacation with you then a ski school is one feature you should give high priority to. Your whole family will enjoy themselves more this way.
The type of runs the ski resort you choose is also important. If the members of your family are mixed in skiing ability then the resort should have a variety of terrain as well. This way the beginners can ski the green runs while the more advances skiers can enjoy more challenging terrain. Any snowboarders in the group will probably enjoy a terrain park. Many resorts also offer other winter activities like sleigh rides and ice skating. All of these can be a fine accent to your holiday.
Good lodging is equally important as good skiing since you will be spending 1/3 of your vacation in the hotel or condo. Having a kitchen unit is going to allow you to save a bundle on meals. I know, you would rather not spend time on your vacation cooking and doing dishes. However the cost to eat at many ski resorts is going to cost over $100 a day for a family of four. Also try and find accommodations with a separate bedroom, at least for you and your spouse or partner. Nothing wrong with some privacy while on holidays.
Once you narrow your search to 2 or 3 resorts then you can start to look for reviews from other skiers. There are many sites and forums where users can submit their experiences while at these resorts. This is a great resource that provides an unbiased view of that resort. It can also help you decide completely where you want to go.
Taking the time with your family to discover their wishes for your next vacation can allow you to plan ahead so that everyone truly enjoys their holiday.
About The Author: You can get a deep discount on luxury accommodations at ski resorts with a vacation membership. Spend New Years In Winter Park Colorado for just $689 for a complete two bedroom condo. Visit http://5startravelgroup.com for more information.

Article Title: A Beginner's Guide To Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Another name for Multi-level marketing (MLM) is network marketing. Typically, a company that organizes itself around a multi-level marketing model combines direct marketing techniques with franchising. In a franchise, commissions are paid from the sales of individual franchise operations to the franchisor and also to an area or regional manager. Similarly with MLM, there can be several levels of people receiving royalties from one person's sales.
People join an MLM company as unsalaried affiliates and earn commissions on the products they sell. But they also receive commission on the sales of affiliates who they enrol into their "downline" as well as on the sales of the affiliates of their affiliates, and so on. To put it another way, the profit on one person's sales is divided between several different people in different levels of the organization.
New MLM affiliates are often required to pay for their own training and marketing materials, or to buy a significant amount of inventory to start their career.
MLM business compensation plans come in various shapes and sizes. The oldest models are the Unilevel or Stairstep Breakaway plans. This is the structure that was made famous by Amway. It allows affiliates to recruit as many people as they wish into their first level and offers a limited number of payout levels. Once a distributor achieves a certain level of business development he becomes a manager and "breaks away" from his original manager. The distributer is now a manager and can receive managerial overrides while the higher level manager receives a percentage override from the sales of the entire breakaway organization.
This model is similar to any other type of sales organization. Most plans compensate at least three generations of such managers. Executive bonuses are rewards for managers who exceed sales targets. Typically, a small percentage of total company sales revenue is placed in a bonus pool which is divided up between all the managers who exceed that month's sales target.
Two other popular compensation models are the Matrix plan and the Binary plan. Each limits the number of people who can be placed in any level. This causes an active distributor's recruits to "spillover" so that affiliates will often have people in their downline who were not directly sponsored by them. A binary matrix limits the width of each level to two legs. Commissions are then paid out on a system of "cycles," in which a distributor is earns commission whenever both legs of his downline hit certain sales targets.
One criticism of MLM style businesses that is often heard is that they resemble illegal pyramid schemes. In a pyramid scam people are recruited to an organization and pay out for that privilege alone, there is no product. In contrast, MLM businesses recruit salespeople to sell a product and offer additional sales commission on the sales of other affiliates recruited into a salesperson's "downline". That is why a lot of illegal pyramid schemes try to pass themselves off as legitimate MLM businesses. A legitimate MLM company pays commissions only on sales of products and services. No money may be earned from recruiting alone through sign-up fees.
Some MLM affiliates may be tempted to qualify for bonuses by "inventory loading" – they seek to hit sales targets by purchasing goods for their own use. To prevent this, many MLM distributor agreements now include a 70% rule in which all participants are required to sell 70% of previously purchased inventory before procuring new orders. Unfortunately, this rule is not uniformly interpreted by attorneys. Some insist that 70% of purchased inventory should be sold to people who are not participants in the business, while many MLM companies allow for self-consumption as a significant part of the sales quota of affiliates.
Today, the Internet offers the MLM industry a whole new frontier. Sales of MLM products and recruitment to MLM companies have exploded. The use of replicating websites, online order processing, online advertising, opt-in email campaigns and a host of other techniques makes it much easier for MLM affiliates to distribute information and collect sales twenty-four hours a day seven days a week to customers all over the world. The choice of MLM businesses is now huge and for people who want to join an MLM organization and run an Internet business from the comfort of their own home, distinguishing legitimate organizations from pyramid scams has become more important than ever.

Article Title: Opportunity Or Scam? Four Internet Business Opportunity Danger Signs

While there are many genuine and legitimate opportunities offering to set people up in their own home based internet business on the internet, it can be difficult to separate them from the ones that only want to take your money. That's why it is important for you to be aware of some clues hidden within the offers which can mean the difference between finding a legitimate business to operate and ending up helping someone else make money while you lose your shirt.
Typically, there are four danger signs that need to be thoroughly checked out before you sign up to a business opportunity on the Internet. Understand that not all of the companies that make these claims are fraudulent, but these are four things that many scams have in common:
Firstly, you will be expected to pay a large entry fee before you can operate the business. Secondly, you will be told that you can get rich without any effort on your part. Thirdly, there will be no clear information about what you will be selling. Finally, there will be no clearly available contact information such as a genuine street address and telephone number.
Not every business that requests a set up or entrance fee is fraudulent but what you have to consider is the amount being demanded before you can qualify to start selling their product or service.
It should also be easy to understand what you will get in return for your investment in terms of products, services and training. Many a fraudulent company will list training as one of the perks, but often the training consists of nothing more than links to other sites where you are expected to learn about the company's business model.
If the training focuses entirely on how to recruit others into the business in return for a commission instead of selling real products, the company's operation may very well be a scam or certainly of questionable legality.
Ask anybody who has ever been involved in building a real business and you will be told that it takes effort. You have to work your business if you want it to succeed. That is no different for businesses that operate entirely on the Internet. But one of the most common pitches Internet scams make is the promise of easy money for little effort, no more than an hour or two a day or even a week. Sadly, however, there really is no such thing as a free lunch and anybody who tries to convince you otherwise is not being totally honest. Claims about how much some people have earned are usually accompanied by a disclaimer stating that the quoted figures are not necessarily typical of the potential earnings, which should beg the question about why the figure was quoted in the first place.
Many scam artists keep you in the dark about what their business offer is about until after you have spent your money and discover there is no way you can sell the business to others with a clear conscious. So, if you have been reading a business opportunity website for several minutes and still have no idea about what the product or service is, it could be that the offer is a scam. You should at least know what the product is, and how much it will cost, before you get any further involved with the business.
Check out the contact information. If the only way of contacting the company is via an email address that might be because they don't intend to be around long enough to deal with your questions or complaints. Money back guarantees are worthless if there is no place you can go to claim your money back. Neither post office boxes nor email addresses can be relied upon if there is no other contact information available.
Finally, there are a couple of quick and easy things you can do to check out a company's reputation. First, simply type the name of the company and the word "scam" into Google and check the results. Another place you can check out a company is on a business opportunities forum. Sign up to a forum and then start a thread asking about the company that concerns you. Remember, though, that just because a disgruntled person calls something a scam does not necessarily mean that it is. However, if there are a lot of complaints, and if the company charges a large entry fee, makes outlandish promises, offers no clear product information and posts no genuine contact information, then the chances that you have found a fraudulent operation are quite high. Don't sign up to their offer and certainly don't give them any of your money.

Article Title: Can You Rely On Pay-Per-Click Advertising?

Format: 64cpl

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
Whether or not you can rely on Pay-Per-Click Advertising will depend upon the products or services you have to offer and how well you promote your website. Advertising via Pay-per-Click involves depositing some money with a Pay-per-Click advertising company. The good news is that you only pay when someone clicks into your site. With some Pay-per-Click companies, you can set the amount you wish to spend, which is good for small businesses which have a limited advertising budget.
The biggest PPC companies in the market as of 2007 are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and MSN adCenter. Other popular PPC companies include Ask, Kanoodle, LookSmart, Miya, and Yandex..
Prices per click start from as little as US$0.01 and rise to US$0.50 and more depending on the polularity of the keyword or search terms and the popularity of the PPC company.
In order for Pay-per-Click advertising to work, you need to make sure that the websites you choose to use are visible enough for the advertising to be worthwhile; in other words you need to choose the right sites where people may be looking for the type of products and services that you are selling. For example, if you sell women's shoes, it is not likely to be beneficial for you to post your PPC links on a site that sells electronic equipment. On the other hand, it might be effective to post your ads on a site that sells fashion items, fragrances, or even men's wear since many people are looking for a quick way to find clothing for all members of the family.
Make sure you fully understand the advertising policies of the PPC company you choose. If you choose a company that allows you to set your own price for each click, you will probably find that your ad will appear on more sites if you are willing to pay more for the service. You want to make sure that you have control over the types of sites where your advertisement will appear. You want to be choosy so that you don't allow your ad to show on sites where people might just click through to see what you have to offer and then not buy anything. Remember, every click costs you money so it's important to target those who are interested and ready to buy, even if it may not be the same day.
Before you choose Pay-per-Click advertising, talk to other people you know who have used it to get a feel for the right company to use. Do your own research as well, reading their websites and what they offer in return for placing your advertising on their websites. Find out as much information as you can before making a decision about using this type of advertising. Like any other type of advertising, you must keep in mind that certain types of advertising work better than others, and PPC works better in some industries than others. Before investing your money in a long-term commitment, you may want to try a couple of small PPC test campaigns to give you an idea of how well it is likely to work for you.
You will need to take some time to choose your keywords and phrases with great care. Remember that when someone searches for a keyword the advertisers' links appear in descending order, starting with the advertiser who is willing to pay most for the click. The obvious or more common or popular keywords for your market will also be the most expensive ones. What you need to do is to brainstorm a range of phrases that people may use to search for your product but which fewer of your competitors will have selected. Those phrases will almost certainly be cheaper to bid on and yet may also be effective in attracting targeted traffic to your site.
For that reason, the phrases that you choose are of vital importance for the success of your campaign. You can lose a lot of advertising money very quickly and end up going nowhere mighty fast if you do not test your keywords and phrases before deciding whether or not Pay Per Click advertising is for you.

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
The other day I was searching the web for an interview with a leading Internet marketer. I wanted to find an interview that I would be permitted to add to my site as part of a feature on building an "Internet Master Mind Alliance". Unfortunately, every interview with the guy I wanted to feature came with strict copyright restrictions attached.
Presumably the authors of those interview articles wanted to preserve the uniqueness of the content and restrict distribution to their sites alone. That's fine, but in doing so they are missing a crucial point about the current state of Internet marketing, namely:
it is better to be anal expulsive than anal retentive!
Think about it for a moment. These guys who won't let their articles leave the confines of their own websites are missing out on a huge amount of viral traffic building potential. One of the conditions of allowing other people to post your articles on their websites is that they also have to attach your signature (including at least one link back to your website) at the foot of the article. So, by refusing to share their work, many Internet publishers are missing out on one of the most effective ways of building links and getting free exposure on the Internet today.
But what about protecting your copyright? The good news is that when your articles are posted on other people's sites they do not have to go unprotected. For example, if you make use of a Creative Commons licence (http://www.creativecommons.org), you will gain three important benefits:
• You will be able to offer some of your rights to any member of the public but only on certain conditions, depending on the licence you choose.
• You do not give up your copyright, which remains legally protected.
• Any article you attach a Creative Commons logo to will also be listed in the Creative Commons searchable database where people can search for it and add it to their websites.
The difference between the traditional "all rights reserved" and a newer "some rights reserved" copyright is like the difference between a clenched fist and an open hand. The more open-handed we can be in our approach to Inernet marketing the better chance we have of thriving in a highly competitive market.
I too had been eager to keep my precious work under the seal of an "all rights reserved" copyright. However, once I had grasped the advantages offered by switching from a traditional "all rights reserved" posture to a "some rights reserved" posture protected by the Creative Commons licensing system, I went straight over to http://www.creativecommons.org and got myself one of their licences. The process is very straightforward and easy. It is also completely free.
Once you have signed up, you get to choose the best licence for you. For example, if you are looking to attract traffic to a business site then you should probably go for a licence that allows the other party to reproduce your article for commercial as well as non-commercial purposes. That way, your article stands a greater chance of being placed on related business sites where it is likely to deliver more highly targeted traffic back to your site.
Placing the license and logo beneath your articles is a simple cut-and-paste job. Once an article with the Creative Commons logo attached has been published it will automatically appear in the Creative Commons listings, channeling another stream of traffic to your site. Anybody who wants to publish your article can simply copy it from your site and publish it on theirs, with the Creative Commons logo and attributions attached.
So, to conclude, don't be too possessive over your good copy. If you want to trumpet your site all over the Internet, releasing good copy is one of the best ways of doing it. The more people who host your articles on their sites the better it is for you. You get the kudos, your name gets exposure, your website gets numerous relevant links and both your traffic and your search engine rankings go up. And, what's more, with the advent of a free service like Creative Commons, it is not even necessary to give up any of your rights.

In his famous poem, The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost writes from the point of view of both webmasters and web-surfers. Website owners would do well to study what Frost says about both perspectives. Speaking from the point of view of the savvy Webmaster, Frost writes:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
As a website owner you too should take the road less traveled by other webmasters. That way you might get to your destination sooner - by opting for a less-traveled road with much more traffic! Less traveled by webmasters, but bringing you more traffic from qualified web-surfers, that is!
Speaking from the point of the web-surfer, Frost describes how, when faced with a choice of pathways, he
... kept the first for another day!
Unfortunately for the webmaster whose site lay on that "road not taken," Frost admits that,
... knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
Oh dear! What is needed is a strategy to divert the passing travelers down the path that leads to your site and motivates them to return again and again.
In short, to make the track to your site a well beaten highway jammed with traffic, you need to take the path "less traveled by".
Here are five "less traveled" paths, five ways or techniques to increase your site ratings. These strategies are very effective, especially when combined, but only a relatively small number of people put them to work on their websites, so if you use them you should be able to divert a larger share of the passing traffic along the path that leads to your site...
Remember, it is the path "less traveled by" other webmasters that makes "all the difference"!
The five techniques are:
1. Hidden Links
Place a hidden link in your ad copy and tell your visitors they will get a prize or freebie when they click on it. That way they are much more likely to read your ad copy and that in turn makes it more probable that they will buy your product or service.
2. Conditional Waiving of Paid Membership
Create a content-rich members-only area on your website. Tell visitors what's in it, sell them on the benefits of subscribing, and let them know what it costs to get access.
Then offer them free membership - with strings, or links, attached! For example, you could offer them free membership if they:
• link to your website
• post your banner on their home page
• advertise your web site in their e-zine
People are usually keen to save money so they are likely to agree to one or more of these terms. This is a powerful way to get free advertising.
3. Discussion Board Postings Prizes
Scratching your head trying to work out how you can make your discussion board more popular? This technique is based on the number of postings each visitor makes. Offer to give away a free product or service to anybody who posts more than ten messages on your discussion board in a month. You could offer a free e-book, a report, e-mail consulting, some of your excess stock etc. Obviously, you'll need to keep track of who's posting and how many times they are doing so each month. This could also work for e-mail discussion lists.
4. Free Directories
Offer your visitors an instant article directory. Tell them they can instantly add a free article directory to their web site simply by linking to yours. Just place your own ad or banner at the top of the article directory and link it to your main product or service. Those links, spread across numerous
websites, will direct a large amount of traffic to your web site.
5. I'm A Book Not A Website (Really!)
There are millions of websites on the Internet. Why be like them? Instead of marketing your website as a website, present it as a free web book. Lay it out with in book format, with a title page, table of contents, chapters and so forth. Just place your ad or banner for your product or service on the top of each web page and embed appropriate links in the copy.
Who knows but that by applying these techniques to your online business, one day you too like Robert Frost,
...shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Unfortunately, more and more drivers don't want to become defensive drivers nowadays which increases chances of accidents related to driving and cars. This is something not only confined in a single locality, community, state or country as this is rather a global phenomenon.
Driving should be something fun and safe and not scary and dangerous if we only practice simple things relating to defensive driving. These things are not so hard to do as they are merely matters of routine and discipline. Defensive driving is a matter of practice too as with other skills we acquire.
So, what basically is defensive driving?
Defensive driving is driving characterized by prudence, diligence and reasonable cautiousness with the goal of making the road a safe place not only for a defensive driver but for other people, as well.
It will not take an Einstein to realize the significance of defensive and driving and it will not also take a Newton to be a defensive driver. This is because for the most part defensive driving is common sense put into practice.
So here are some tips you can remember so that you become defensive drivers without need of spending money to attend a driving school.
1. Follow traffic rules. This is perhaps the most basic but the most neglected of all. Make sure you observe traffic rules like no overtaking, no over speeding whatsoever because they will not be made as rules as such if there is no wisdom behind them.
2. Be aware of traffic signs and symbols. If there is a sharp curve symbol make sure you follow the idea behind the sign - slow down and do not overtake even if the urge is almost uncontrollable.
3. Be aware of the other driver and maintain proper distance. It is almost absolute that we are not aware of the kind of person the driver of the other auto is.
So, just to be certain that we don't get in trouble we should always maintain enough distance from the auto in front that if the driver suddenly steps on the brake without signaling that intention first, you can have the sufficient opportunity to avoid any accident.
4. Check your car before you use it. Check if the brakes are properly working. Check if the engine is in good condition.
5. Observe proper speed especially in superhighways.
These are some things you can bear in mind every time you drive. They are simple things that can make you a defensive driver.
With the increase in number of cars falling in line every day on our major roads, the complexity there is in driving is also aggravated. The need to make ourselves skillful particularly on defensive driving techniques becomes even more evident and necessary.
In order to mitigate the tendency of suffering from vehicular accidents, we should always make certain that we keep in mind these defensive driving tips.
Driving indeed need not be that risky and dangerous we only have to practice defensive driving and we can be assured that our experience on the road will be much more fun than ever.

Purchasing a car is an investment you surely never want to mess around. Any car purchase whether of a new car or a used one will have impact on the kind of daily activities you do.
If you purchase a car that gives us endless headaches, that will somehow ruin our plans like when you want to go out of town and enjoy some quality time with our loved ones.
This is basically the reason why it is always necessary that we equip ourselves with relevant knowledge that will guide us in making car purchase. The hunt for relevant knowledge is not too hard to do as most people think it is.
Primarily this is because there are tons of resources available where you can get the latest news and updates. From these resources we can get the procedural articles that will lend helpful insights to us. There are also tips and tricks in store for anyone who would like to make a car purchase.
Second, we can also ask from people who have the direct knowledge when it comes to automobiles and car dealership. There are people who would even be willing to give technical know-how to anyone who would dare to ask for assistance.
With the kind of community and world we have, car purchase is almost inevitable and thus very necessary. This is especially true if we work in offices which are remote from our homes. This is also true if when have kids who attend schools far from our homes.
There are also many cases when public utility vehicles and public transportation have no exact routes that could even get us near our offices and homes. There are indeed so many reasons why deciding to make a car purchase is at best inevitable.
But unfortunately there are some people who find car purchasing a scary and a tricky one. This is not altogether baseless and unfounded because there are really car dealers and sellers who take advantage of other people's lack of sufficient knowledge on car purchase deals.
There are hundreds of dealers who overprice cars while there are others who insert unfair provisions in contracts of car purchase. These are but some of the unfair things used car dealers might do to you and most probably if you are unaware of such matters and if aware you nevertheless don't know how to do countermeasures you might end up a victim.
So, here are some tips you can do to avoid getting at the losing end of your car purchase. First, read magazines and online references from automaker's websites. This will enable you to approximate the fair market value of the car you are interested to purchase. Second, make a research online.
You can check out the websites of used car dealers who are not necessarily automakers themselves. You can also ask for a quote from them. Then, keep a note of all the vital details you find. This will help you consolidate accurate information that you will use when the time to decide from which dealer you will purchase your car.
A car purchase deal need not be that scary and tricky. Just know as many relevant details you can find and make these details as your guide posts in making your decision.

Translation jobs are challenging jobs that demand great degree of care, diligence and patience. This is one of the reasons why it is said that translation is not for the person who lacks certain degree of discipline.
Another thing about translation jobs why other people do not engage in this profession is the degree of technical skill and intellectual ability necessary to be able to produce a product of superb quality and one that meets client's specific standard.
When engaging in translation jobs, aside from the behavioral and professional requirements, the person so engaging should find it necessary to update oneself to the new developments that happen in the languages he or she is specializing in.
This is one of the important things that must be placed in proper perspective to be able to survive in the profession.
Nevertheless, a person engaging in translation can make his or her work a lot easier if the following things will be adapted:
1. Update yourself with the use of technological software like computer dictionaries. With the present features of most computer dictionaries it is more convenient to use them as compared to printed dictionaries.
They are even made more accessible because these computer dictionaries are mostly compatible with major operating systems like Mac and Windows.
2. Allot regular time for your translation jobs. This has been proven to be more effective than not allotting specific time because it has a sort of conditioning effect.
3. Designate and come up with your very own workstation.
4. Explore the Internet every once in a while to see resource pages for translators and translation jobs.
5. Allot time to proofread works for possible unintentional errors like typographical and spelling errors.
By bearing in mind and putting into practice these rather practical tips, you will discover for yourself how much easier your translation jobs will become. You will find your translation jobs more enjoyable than before because of the considerable degree of difficulty that could be possibly lessened by doing these simple tips.
Translation jobs are quite flourishing job opportunities today. They can be performed on full-time or part-time basis depending on your choice. With the still increasing number of organizations and persons needing the expertise of translators, people who are into translation would most likely find wide market where they can offer their services.
However, it has been observed that there is likewise increasing number of translators offering their services to this market. This makes it necessary for you to be highly competitive and for your skill to be more marketable.
This in effect leads us to the conclusion that the only thing that you can possibly do to survive the new and ever-increasing competition among translators is to be more capable in what you do best - translating! The skills you have right now may be sufficient to keep you alive for the meantime.
But, staying alive for a lot longer time is another matter. One thing is for sure in this regard, you cannot survive if you will not improve your translation skills and if you will not make yourself more competent as a professional translator.

Car donation helps young people who belong to underprivileged communities attend schools and achieve their simple dreams in life. Through the efforts of people who want to change the direction of lives of young children, many are given new hope in what seems to be hopeless situations.
Definitely car donation as a means of raising needed funds is one perfect idea and a major factor to attain this goal.
Funds raised through car donation also help families affected by natural disasters like hurricanes and floods. Usually, communities which were affected by these disasters find it difficult to start over again. In this respect, cause-oriented groups and their collective efforts become the light that guides families in their quest to find the right way to make a new beginning.

Article Title: Hybrid Car: To Buy Or Not To Buy?

US President George W. Bush once advised Americans to invest in buying and patronizing hybrid vehicles to help cure and eliminate the country's addition to oil. Because contract oil prices in the world market have always been very volatile, there is a pending need to significantly lower all industries and peoples' reliance and need for oil. Car experts now recommend buying hybrid cars more than any other type of cars.
What are hybrid cars? Basically, these are vehicles that run on two sources of energy---the usual gasoline or oil and electricity stored within an imbedded battery. The electricity from batteries serves as a back up or an assisting energy source. There are operations and functions of the hybrid car that utilize the electricity. This way, full consumption and reliance from the gasoline engine is lowered, making consumption of gasoline significantly lower. These days, hybrid cars provide about 60-40 gasoline-electricity power, wherein gasoline energy components make up majority of the car functions.
Is there a need to prefer a hybrid car? Before any purchase transaction for such a fuel-efficient car, it would be wise and logical if you would first consider the following checklist:
1. Is a hybrid car the right and appropriate car for you?
2. Are your personal driving habits in favor of using a hybrid car?
3. What are the helpful and necessary options available?
4. Do you have enough information to validate the reliability and credibility of the dealer and manufacturer?
5. Are there options in terms of car dealers? Will it be viable to buy in dealers from another state or area?
6. Is there a sticker price or manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) that is the actual price of the hybrid car, no more, no less?
Looking at the pros and cons of buying a hybrid car is easy. First of all, you would be able to generate a significant amount of savings in the form of gasoline consumption declines. However, it is just logical that hybrid cars currently cost higher than the normal and traditional cars. Hybrid cars are much lighter in weight and the basic structure and components and made of lighter alloys and metals, as weight is also a significant factor that boosts crude consumption. For its disadvantage, some people less prefer light structures and components in cars as such materials deform easier and are not too durable.
Hybrid cars perform full functions and features of a regular car. However, in comparison, hybrid cars fall less. For instance, if you are very particular about speed, hybrid cars would surely disappoint you. That is because electricity is not yet a viable source of power and energy for cars. That is why it just installed as a back up and secondary source of power in hybrid cars. If you are worrying about charging of batteries, do not worry. Hybrid cars are designed to have components that facilitate conversion of mechanical energy to stored-electrical. That is why through braking and acceleration, the car's battery is being charged. The disadvantage of this is that the major weight of the car and the overall space consumption can be directly influenced by battery installations.
It is advisable to buy a hybrid car, but if you are after superior performance, wait further because car makers are still in the process of researching and developing better and more powerful hybrid cars.

While a lot of homeowners think long and hard about the style, color and fabric of their upholstered furnishings, selecting tables can be an afterthought. Yet, the right table, or should we say tables, can make or break a room.
There are an endless variety of living room tables to choose from, not only in terms of styles, finishes and sizes, but also in terms of types of tables. Not all living room tables are created equal and knowing the difference between them can help you select the right mix for your home.
Let's take a look at the different tables and their uses:
Coffee table. Once referred to as a cocktail table, it is a fairly recent addition to the living room, yet it has become indispensible. Often, if space or funds are limited it is the first and often only table a room needs. Coffee tables are traditionally large and low, not more than 2" above the top of your sofa cushions. It is usually placed either in front of or between upholstered pieces. Its close proximity makes it perfect for serving drinks or food, as guests can easily set their plates and glasses down on these very handy living room tables.
End tables. These living room tables are usually found at the end of a sofa, sectional or love seat or between two occasional chairs. They can match the coffee table or have a different style, though the end tables themselves should match. They are taller than the coffee table, but usually not more than 6" lower than the side arm of the sofa or sectional, allowing guests to set drinks or food on them easily. They are usually large enough to hold a lamp and many models offer a drawer, shelf or cabinet for storage.
Occasional tables. These are small versions of end tables. They are usually as tall as end tables, but have a smaller surface area, making them perfect for rooms that have tight or limited spaces, such as a small apartment or a room that is long but not extremely wide. They come in a variety of shapes and styles, and can be used as a single focal point, much like an accent table.
Accent tables. These living room tables are designed to contrast and complement the room, ie, serve as an accent. They are usually more ornamental or have features that make them standout visually, such as a tabletop that can be lifted so the table can be set flush against a wall. These living room tables are great for displaying collections, hosting plants or holding the overflow of goodies that arrive during the holidays. They are the most versatile of all living room tables, since they can be used in place of end tables or any other table in the room. They are also fun to have since they don't have to match the rest of your décor. They can be a different shape, style, theme or finish.
Specialty tables. Within these major groupings you find specialty tables. This can include nesting tables, which are either stacked or nested to save space. These living room tables can be used in place of end tables or serve as an accent table, depending on the size and style you choose. They can also work well between two chairs, providing you with a little additional table space when guests are over. You can also get coffee tables that double as ottomans or have a lift top, allowing you to enjoy dinner in front of the fireplace or TV.
One of the best places to shop for living room tables is online. Online retailers have an endless variety of tables to choose from, allowing to quickly find the pieces that fit your needs and tastes quickly and easily.

Every room has one. That space in your home that just seems empty. Yet, many pieces of furniture are simply too large or bulky to fit the space available. So, you end up doing without, rather than putting in something that is too large or would end up looking out of place.
Accent tables will fill the bill nicely. In contrast to other tables that may be larger overall, accent tables come in all sizes and shapes, from fairly small to quite large. This insures that you'll almost certainly find the table that is perfect for your home and the space you have in mind.
For example, an accent table can work wonderfully in an entryway, where you could use a place to keep your telephone books, your keys, gloves and other essentials that help you get on your way or find your way on a daily basis. They would look great with a small mirror above them, just so you can make sure you're all put together before you head out for the day.
Because of their very nature, accent tables are made to capture the attention of visitors and guests. Compared to end tables and coffee tables, they can be quite ornate, such as lovely wood tables with exotic, complex patterns of wood veneers. The can also come in any shape imaginable, from square and rectangle to round, oval and even octangular.
Round end tables even make a great alternate to traditional end tables, adding a lot of visual impact to the room, since square or rectangular end tables are usually the rule. Accent tables that are round or oval make a delightful exception to this rule. You can even make a bolder statement by going with a pedestal table instead of a traditional table with four legs.
Many accent tables come in designs that capture your interests and passions. For instance, you can get accent tables with a travel theme, with a large compass design on the top done in exquisite veneers. Or you can find one that has a built-in wine rack on the bottom, allowing you to share your love of wine with visitors and guests.
While rectangular or square accent tables will certainly fill the bill as an end table as well, you can also use them on the sides of your bed. One of the great things bout these tables is that they can each be different. Whether you use them in the living room or in the bedroom, you can actually use two different tables, such as one that's rectangular and one that's round, but in the same general style and finish. It's OK if they are very decorative, they are meant to be.
When selecting accent tables, you want to choose models that not only reflect your personal tastes and the decor of your room, but you also want to find tables that are of top quality. A lot of the models you'll find at discount stores aren't necessarily of the best quality. As they say, you get what you pay for. Many online retailers carry a wide selection of top quality tables from major manufacturers. One of the benefits of shopping online is selection and ease. Since you can shop by keyword, you can quickly narrow your selections, saving you time and money, since you don't have to use up a lot of gas going from store to store. And since many online stores offer free shipping, you don't have to worry about additional shipping costs, and added bonus.
One thing's for sure. You don't want to overlook accent tables as an option for decorating your home. Their versatility, beauty and variety almost guarantee you'll find the perfect table for that space that always seemed just a little too empty.

You don't have to own a local pub or tavern to enjoy the beauty, comfort, style and functionality of barstools. Once relegated to the dark corners of a seedy bar, barstools have come front and center to become one of the most versatile pieces of furniture in your home.
Part of the reason is their versatility. Barstools can be used in any number of rooms in your home, from seating at a pub-style table in your kitchen and breakfast bar to being used in an outdoor covered patio near the barbecue. In between, you'll find them in your family room, game room and even your home theater.
This renaissance in popularity is in large part due to the wide selection of barstools that are on the market these days. They can be found in every major furniture style, including modern, contemporary, transitional and traditional.
When selecting barstools for your home, you want to take a few things into account.
First, you need to decide on the style. Since this has probably already been determined by the other furnishings or decor that share the same space, this should be relatively straightforward.
The next is features. Yes, barstools have features. You can opt for a very basic stool that has a fixed seat, no padding, no back, or you can get ones that have all these features and then some, including the ability to swivel. If you want your guests to be comfortable, you probably want to go with stools that have backs on them. However, this may not be ideal if you want to tuck them away when not in use, such as under the pub table or breakfast bar. A back, especially one that is curved or has arms, can greatly affect how you store them.
That said, guests will appreciate the additional comfort of a back, especially one with arms. They also may enjoy a padded seat. Thankfully, manufacturers make barstools with a wide range of fabrics and many retailers, especially those online, allow you to order the fabric of your choice to match your décor.
Another nice feature to have is a footrest. With many barstools, the bottom supports provide guests with a place to rest their feet. With others, a special bar is added for feet. Just be sure that the footrest isn't too high up or too low for your average family member.
Barstools come in several heights, from 24" to 32", though you can find them a bit higher or lower as well. You want to make sure that you get a stool that isn't too high or low for your counters. Just measure your counter top and understand that the height refers to the height of the seat portion, not the overall height of the barstool.
Finally, you want to consider the material. Stools come in nearly any material imaginable, from sleek stainless steel for a more modern look, oak, maple or pine for a more traditional look or even bamboo and wicker for a tropical feel. Some stools, especially those for outdoor entertaining, may look like bamboo but be made of metal instead, adding strength and durability while being all weather.
When shopping for quality stools, expect to pay $50 and up. While more inexpensive stools may be tempting, you may find that they won't last. A good place to shop for stools is online. Online retailers often have a fantastic selection and with free shipping the prices can be very competitive. Best of all, you can shop easily for different styles since you can use a built-in search engine to narrow your options. Some models come in different heights so you want to double check your selections before finalizing your order.

When you find a bargain during a patio furniture sale, you can experience one of the best feelings on earth - The Find.
As you know, finding the right patio furniture for your home takes a bit of legwork, research, time and effort. But it's well worth the wait when you finally do.
While you could go out and pay full price (and it's perfectly acceptable to do so when you find the furniture that is just what you wanted), getting furniture at a patio furniture sale is an equally smart strategy.
It just takes a little extra work. That's because the selection is a little less predictable in a patio furniture sale. Often, retailers will put items up for sale that are moving more slowly than anticipated, are overstocked or simply need to be moved out the door because new styles and models are arriving soon.
There's nothing wrong with these pieces. They are just as well made and fashionable as they were before they were put on sale. In contrast to the traditional scratch and dent section of a furniture store, these furnishings are brand new and priced to move.
Often you'll find name brand offerings at 10% to 50% off or more at a patio furniture sale. This is particularly true with online retailers, which may offer free shipping as well to even the playing field with neighborhood retailers.
Shopping for a great patio furniture sale online has the added advantage that you don't have to drive from one store to another in search of the right furniture for your deck, patio or balcony. You can enter search phrases such as "patio furniture sale" or "patio furniture clearance" to find those online stores running sales.
Rather than wading through a showroom of cramped furniture on clearance, you can narrow your search further on the site. For example, you can look at patio furniture that is just teak or comb through patio furniture sale items that are under $500. The search options allow you to save time and money by finding just what you're looking for.
Alternately, you can click on the Shopping tab on http://google.com and use its intuitive search feature to find just what you're looking for. You can even enter the same search phrases. The main difference is their shopping section will kick back a wide range of retailers you may not have even thought of if you were to do your own online search.
To aid you in your search for the bargain of a lifetime, here's some helpful tips to make your journey much more fruitful.
1. Don't be too particular as you begin your search. If you want an exact style or piece of furniture, you may find you'll be frustrated in your search. Be open to what you're looking for.
2. Be patient. Sale items change all the time. The very item you couldn't find yesterday may be offered at a deep discount today. And that great patio furniture sale item may be online, not in a store.
3. Be sure you factor in shipping. Some retailers charge a lot of money to ship your item to you, driving up the cost significantly.
4. Do your homework. Decide general styles you like or manufacturers you are drawn to. Use these as the basis of your search.
5. Comparison shop. There are only so many manufacturers of patio furniture and you may discover that the piece you really want is actually a featured item at a patio furniture sale.
6. Be sure to review the return policy and warranty on any items being offered in a patio furniture sale. Some stores have liberal terms; others will charge you a restocking fee.
Most important, enjoy the adventure of a good sale. Thanks to today's robust search tools and bounty of retailers, finding the right piece of furniture at the right price is easier than ever.

Article Title: Tips on Choosing the Right Living Room Furniture

Your living room is often one of the most used spaces in your home. It is the place where you welcome visitors, entertain friends and capture your personality, all at the same time.
Small wonder why your living room receives so much attention. But choosing the right living room furniture can be a bit problematic, as you need to select pieces that are not only comfortable, but match your entertainment needs and personality.
It can be a difficult balance between comfort, style and personality. Even harder is finding a new piece to fit your existing grouping of living room furniture.
Most experts recommend that you stick with a neutral color for the largest pieces, such as a sectional, sofa or love seat. This way you can add color and accent with smaller pieces that are more easily replaced should you want to update or change your décor. This is a great strategy since the larger pieces are the biggest investment, allowing you to amortize the cost over many years before they need to be replaced.
While it may be tempting to chase trends, it's best to keep with the classic in living room furniture. Nothing's worse than getting the latest in styles, only to find that a year or two from now it's yesterday's news and your furniture looks seriously outdated. Who hasn't walked into a home wondering what the owner was thinking when they bought the dark purple sofa or the swirly patterned chair-and-a-half.
With careful planning and a little forethought, you can create an attractive living room furniture arrangement that will stand the test of time while still allowing you to add your own creative touches.
The first living room furniture purchasing decision should always be the sofa, sectional or other major grouping. This is the anchor of the room and the first thing people really see. You want to invest in the best quality piece you can afford. It can be quite simple, yet still be elegant and most important, comfortable. It should also be easy to maintain. Pillow back sofas look great, but keeping the pillows all neatly arranged, especially if the sofa gets regular use, can be a maddening challenge. Think about your lifestyle when choosing the right sofa.
The next most important pieces of living room furniture are the accent chairs. These can be in a contrasting style and design, letting the type of wood, fabric or color tie them together with the sofa or sectional. Again, comfort is very important.
Finally, a basic living room furniture grouping should have tables. A coffee table can come in very handy, but you may also want to think about some end tables. These can help hold the grouping together visually while offering guests a place to set their drinks or plates when they visit.
From there you can fill in with lamps, smaller tables, bookcases and other accents that really make the room look finished.
As you select your living room furniture, remember to consider its scale. Don't get pieces that are too large for the room. Taking measurements is important, as a visit to a cavernous showroom can give you a false sense of scale. Shopping online is actually easier, since the measurements of each piece can be easily discovered and you don't have to worry about having tricks played on your eyes.
In fact, shopping for living room furniture online can actually be a pleasant alternative to visiting countless showrooms as there is a wider selection in the virtual showrooms and many online retailers not only offer great deals, but free shipping as well.

Article Title: Advice on How to Arrange Furniture

Arranging furniture is one of the quickest and easiest ways to give a tired looking room a fresh, new look. That and a new color on the walls can work wonders with very little time and effort. Many neophytes in interior design are tempted to push all their furniture up against the walls of a room in an attempt to make it look bigger. This can actually have the opposite effect, as the furniture creates a visual definition of the room. Put simply, a small room with furniture shoved up against the walls serves only to make the walls more finite in the mind's eye. Actually, a grouping in the middle of the room with breathing space between it and the walls can make a room look bigger, if it's done correctly.
The first challenge is to assess the space you have available and the furniture you have to work with. You really want to avoid moving furniture around until you have a well defined plan of action. The reason for this is two-fold. First, you want to save your back by not having to move furniture around all day, trying to get that perfect look. But just as important is that until every piece is moved, you won't be able to tell if it's a good look. This just invites and endless game of musical chairs where no one gets to sit down. The best way to arrange furniture in the room is on paper. You can do this one of two ways. You can go the old school way and use a piece of graph paper. Scale the room to the scale on the paper. For example, two squares may equal one foot. Once you have the room all drawn out, measure the furniture and cut representations of all the pieces you're going to put in the room. Move everything around on the piece of paper until it looks good. A well arranged room with have harmony and balance, but won't be boring.
This can be achieved by creating visual balance. For example, two chairs set opposite a sofa can carry the same visual weight. Even though they aren't the same, the eye perceives that the arrangement is harmonic. The other way to arrange furniture is to do it online. There are plenty of websites out there these days that offer this service. You can draw out the room and place your furnishings. Some of these will also let you see the room from different angles, so you can see what it will look like from the doorway or from another room. This can give you a real feel for the balance of the room, since you can see it on multiple planes. The downside is that the furniture may not look exactly like yours, so you may have trouble imaging what the real room will actually look like.
Placement is important. You want to create a room that feels open from the main entry point. It should be obvious to the visitor where the main traffic area is. If you have a big view window, fireplace or giant screen TV, use it as the focal point. Arrange the furniture so that it faces the focal point. If it doesn't, your eyes will continually dart around the room – good interior design should ideally take advantage of any focal point you have in a room. In the bedroom, this can be more difficult. Often, the placement of a bed is determined by the location of closets, where the bathroom door is and windows, especially sliding glass or French doors. That doesn't mean you can't use a little creativity, such as placing the bed on an angle to the room. This can create a little unexpected drama and excitement. If you don't like it you can always move it back to the one wall it logically fits on.
As you arrange furniture in a room, start with the largest pieces first and work your way down to the smaller ones, including lamps. The larger pieces will naturally dominate the room and be the first item to support the focal point. In fact, a really great sofa or sectional can be the focal point, but only if it's not having to compete with a spectacular view, a stunning piece of art or a major architectural element. Finally, remember that the furniture doesn't have to be moved to its new location forever. It's OK to experiment. Even if you nail the arrangement perfectly, it may take some time for you to get used to the new look. Live with it for a while and you may just find that you've created a masterpiece.
