Parents have concerns regarding a lot of things once their children start going to school or making friends. Parents want their children to reach great heights of academic success. They also want their child to stay away from any potential hazards that they may have to face once they start going out & making friends.
Child bullying has become very common these days. Children are often harassed, humiliated and tortured by their playmates or companions. This becomes a serious issue sometimes & the child feels embarrassed. Sometimes a child feels neglected & humiliated so much that his morale drops down and he may also give in to suicidal thoughts. Parents should take extra care about making their child aware, of certain steps when bullied.
First and foremost, it is very important to look at the warning signs of your child getting bullied so that you can provide him timely assistance.
Here are some warning signs to make you aware of the fact that your child is getting bullied. Think of providing assistance to your child immediately if he behaves in the following way:
Warning signs in your child:
• Sudden reduced appetite.
• Getting anxious at short intervals.
• Reduced interest in school work.
• Remarkable drops in school grades.
• Having fewer friends than before.
• Having no friends at all.
• Unable to sleep well.
• Having frequent nightmares.
• Loss of appetite.
• Wants to take a different route to school than used previously.
• Showing signs of low self esteem all of a sudden.
• Feeling sick before school.
• Pretending to have a headache, stomach ache & eager to take a leave.
• The child has unexplained cuts & bruises.
• Don't want to take a bus to school all of a sudden.
If you notice any of or more signs in your child then understand that it is time to get into action. You should monitor the child surroundings, keep tabs on his activities and know about his friends. Also try to inform the school authorities about the sudden change in your child's behavior. The school authorities will help the child getting out of the problem faced by him.
Remember, that a child who is bullied has something different in him that instigates a bully to criticize his action. The child who is bullied looks different or come from a different culture or belongs to a different religion. They are weaker, younger or lack of social confidence.
A child with a disability also becomes easy target for bullies. A child can be a target for bullies because he wears contact lenses, spectacles, show signs of poverty, is shy or quiet.
In short, a child who stands out in the crowd can be easily bullied.
Once you observe signs of bullying in your child, it is time to act & not panic. Let your child know that he is the best and can approach you any time he gets into trouble. Increase confidence in your child by praising him for his good deeds.
It is very important for you to follow up with your child & find out whether bullying incidents are still occurring in his life. Let the child know that you are interested.

If I told you someone was thin, would you automatically assume they were healthy? For the vast majority of us, we assume that thin = healthy: a rather inaccurate and potentially dangerous assumption.
It's rather sad to witness so many young women and even men strive to be way too thin thinking this is the current standard of beauty. This common misconception is dangerous and can lead to serious illness and even death.
It is possible to be too thin. The problem is that in this day and age with the bombardment of unusually thin models and media subliminally telling us that "thin is in, we are fed a false impression of what real beauty is. Being too thin is dangerous.
And being overweight is dangerous, too. Carrying around extra weight, just like not having enough weight, can cause a host of medical issues that can eventually lead to death.
So the question is: What is an ideal, healthy weight?
What is a healthy weight for you is not necessarily a healthy weight for someone else. It is important not to compare yourself to anyone else, but to find your own healthy weight.
How can I find my healthy weight?
Of course, a visit to your doctor can answer this question. Your doctor can measure your fat to muscle ratio and give you an idea of how much you should lose, gain, or if you are at a healthy weight.
Another option? Check the Body Mass Index, or BMI. The BMI is a measurement that figures in both your height and weight. While it is not a perfect measure since it can't tell you how much fat and how much muscle you have, it can give you a good idea of whether or not you should gain or lose some weight.
A BMI or 18.5 to 24.9 is considered healthy. Anything above and below that range is not healthy. A score over 30 indicates obesity, unless you are a muscular athlete, pregnant, or if you are over the age of 65. Body Mass Index's are easy to find and use online, so check out your score!
What if I'm not happy with my "healthy weight"?
As mentioned earlier, we live in a culture that worships beauty. The celebrity culture is a great example. Have you noticed how thin some of these celebrities have become? If you ask me, many of them look too thin to the point of sickly. But still, for some reason, extreme thinness is desired while it should be avoided.
Whether your healthy weight seems to you to be too thin or too heavy, I suggest first visiting your doctor to ensure that where you are at is safe.
If you truly are at a healthy weight, it may be time to look at your body in a more positive and respectful light. Speak and think of your body is positive ways. Enjoy the compliments you receive. Seek support from your loved ones. Become active and enjoy your body.
By changing your mindset, you will see that your body is just perfect!

Sometimes, when your older, you wish to go back to those teenage years. But we forget about the difficulties we had and teenagers these days still have. Just think about the physical changes you go through in that phase of your life. It's the time you become aware of your body and the way you and others look at it. It is also the time in your life that a lot skin troubles start to happen. Things like acne, blackheads and pimples start to show on the surface of your skin. You should take good care of your skin in this period of your life. Here are a few tips for teenage skin care, if only we had these when we were young.
Cosmetics, use with care
A lot of teens spend a great deal of their time using makeup. But teens should think twice before choosing a makeup product. They should make sure that non of these products, be it a foundation, blush-on, moisturizers or anything else had any oil content. Buy products from well known manufacturers. It would be a good thing if all the products you need and use are natural and organic. If a product is chemical based it can cause blemishes or pimples all over your face.
Squeezing is not the solution
It's an urban myth that squeezing the blemishes in your face help to solve the problem quicker. Squeezing the problem area will only make matters worse. When you squeeze or start picking the problem area you are at a higher risk of creating scar tissue and by doing so creating a problem for life. You're better of when you leave the area alone and don't touch, pick, rub, scratch or squeeze your skin. Of all the teen skin care tips that are out there this is probably the most important one.
Always be gentle when cleansing
Somehow a lot of teens think that their skin will look better if they keep on cleaning the skin with a strong soap, this way taking out all the oil from that specific area. This is of course a wrong conclusion. What it does is make your skin loose moisture and that is something you don't want your skin to loose. This goes for all skin types, always be gentle. Always use a mild soap or cleanser to clean your skin.
Acne-prone skin? Avoid Scrubbing
If you are suffering from acne or know that you can easily get acne, stay far away from scrubbing products. Scrubbing your skin while you suffer from acne will only make matters worse. It could even damage the skin in such a way that it could leave scars for a long time if not for live. You should be looking at deep-pore cleansing products and clean your skin while gently applying it to your skin.
If possible use sunscreen cream or lotion
Teens spend a lot of their time outdoors so it would be only normal to apply a sunscreen lotion or cream to keep the skin from getting damaged by sunlight or environmental pollutants like smoke. The thing is that most teens don't think about it until they go to the beach or the swimming pool. Teens who suffer from acne and who are taking medications should be extra careful because one of the side effects is that these medications make you more vulnerable to sunburn. So, you should use sunscreen lotion or cream whenever you can. Sunscreen, not tanning lotion. All though tanning lotion can make the skin less oily it is not appropriate for teen skin care.
About The Author: You should care for your skin. It's the largest organ of a human being so don't neglect it. Julia Schwartz shows at http://www.day2dayskincare.com what you can do to keep your skin in a good condition.

Autism can be defined as a brain development disorder. The disorder tends to impair social interaction & communication of the individual. It also causes restricted & repetitive behavior. Unfortunately, the disorder traits starts even before the child is three years old. The disease can be categorized in to two parts namely Autism & Asperger syndrome (milder spectrum disorder). Experts feel that Autism is transmitted as a hereditary disease.
Here are some of the most common problems faced by children with Autism.
a) Difficulty in using a language socially
Children with Autism find it really difficult to use a language socially. They take everything literally & cannot deal with slang & jokes.
b) Trouble in social understanding
A child suffering from classical autism is unable to grasp any kind of social interaction & often try to stay aloof. They also suffer from withdrawal symptoms. The child tries his best to understand. However, most of the time, their "social naiveté" results in some misunderstandings & they tend to become unpopular among their peers.
c) Difficulty in creating imaginations
Everywhere tries to see the world through imagination. Children with autism find it really difficult to imagine. They struggle hard to make out what can happen next. They are also unable to cope with novel situations by considering their experiences in the past. They are dependant on routines that may get elevated to rituals & requires to be followed with smallest detail.
Living with Autism can involve a lot of stress for the individual as well as the family members. There is no cure for this disorder. The treatment provided varies from one person to another. One requires to practice a lot of patience & consistency in order to live with autism & enjoy life.
You would require a professional & well trained health care team that includes either a psychiatrist or a developmental pediatrician & a school implemented Individualized Education Program (IEP) & ITP (Individualized Transition Plan) to live with Autism.
Here are some important steps to follow when living with Autism.
Step 1: You need to address the stress that can most probably occur when providing care for a child with Autism. Make sure that you share responsibility & let everyone in the house gets time for themselves.
Step 2: Explore and exploit all resources that can help you to provide care to an autistic individual. Visit a professional, hit websites & talk to people who have been dealing with this disorder.
Step 3: Pay a good amount of attention to keep safety in & around the home. You need to take some extra precautions if you have toddlers at home. Put childproof locks on doors & cabinets, place gates in front of staircases & cover electric outlets.
Step 4: Teach the siblings not to feel frustrated or embarrassed about their autistic sibling.
Step 5: It is important to plan for the future of the child with autism. You need to enroll him in an IEP. This program will help him receive behavioral & occupation therapy that will prepare him for his future. Thereafter you would require to put him through an ITP.
It is easy to live with Autism if you understand the disorder & cope up with the child. You may also keep a daily journal to reduce stress.

Attention deficit disorder is a condition that's characterized by behavioral & learning disorders. This disease is generally diagnosed in children & mostly affects boys than the girls. This disease tends to linger on in adulthood in some cases.
Hyperactivity, distractibility & impulsivity are some of the most common characteristics found in children with ADD. This makes children difficult to perform a task assigned to them or concentrated on some of the important aspects of conversations.
ADD is a neurobiologically-based developmental disability that usually affects children.
The actual cause of this disease is not known. However, many researches have proved that the disease is caused due to the genetic transmission of the condition from parents to the children. This can be also a result of a type of chemical imbalance or deficiency of some important neurotransmitters.
Neurotransmitters are actually chemicals that help the brain regulate the behavior of an individual. According to a recent study, it has been proved that the rate at which the brain uses glucose, the main energy source is lower in people suffering from ADD as compared to individuals not suffering without ADD.
Some of the symptoms of inattention in this disease include inattention, hyperactivity & impulsivity. Some of these symptoms due to in attention include conditions such as facing difficulty in sustaining attention in certain tasks & activities, not able to listen when spoken to directly, indulging in careless mistakes in school activities & forgetting certain tasks in daily activities.
Some of the symptoms faced by patients with ADD due to hyperactivity include fidgets with hands, squirms in seat, fidgeting with feet, running about or climbing excessively in situation where it is not required. Other symptoms include facing trouble in playing or engaging in leisure activities & excessive talking. Patients with ADD may also suffer from impulsivity that include blurting out answers way before the question are completed in tempting in a conversation & facing difficulty in waiting for their turn.
Some people even face difficulty in remaining seated for a long time. Here are some other symptoms of ADD:
a)Facing excessive difficulty in following instructions.
b)Shifting from one uncompleted task to another.
c)Facing difficulty in playing quickly.
d)Talking excessively.
e)Forgetting things that are important for tasks or activities
f)Eagerness in participating in dangerous activities without knowing consequences.
g)Easy distraction by extraneous stimuli.
h)Unable to follow daily tasks.
i)Difficulty in organizing activities.
j)Avoiding important tasks & assignments.
k)Feeling & acting restless.
Once it is confirmed that an individual is suffering from ADD & all the symptoms confirm this, it is important to take immediate medical attention.
Meet an expert medical practitioner & follow all the instructions provided by him or her. You also need to go for medication as prescribed by your health care practitioner. This will help you cure this disease promptly & effectively. It is also important to provide adequate social support to the patient to help him come out of this situation. Remember that it is a joint effort of the health care practitioner, the individual, people around him & medication that work towards the cure of this condition.

Are you unsure which vitamins are in which foods? If so, it's time to change that because your health could be in jeopardy!
A vitamin is an organic substance or chemical found in food that is absolutely necessary for normal growth, health, and bodily functions. Vitamins help the body to resist infection, as well as to increase mental alertness.
It is best to ingest our nutrients through whole foods, but very often we need to supplement our diet. If needed, choose natural, whole food vitamins. These vitamins are made from a natural food source and are absorbed by the body much better than chemically produced vitamins.
Did you know that there are 14 different vitamins that fall into two distinct categories? These two categories are fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins.
Water-soluble vitamins (as discussed more thoroughly in a previous article) includes nutrients such as Vitamin C, choline, biotin and seven B vitamins. These vitamins dissolve in water and cannot be stored in the body for an extended period of time as any excess water-soluable vitamins are excreted in urine.
Fat-soluble vitamins, on the other hand, includes Vitamins A, D, E and K and are stored in your body fat and liver if they are not used immediately for digestion. Excess fat-soluble vitamins can accumulate in your body and reach toxic levels.
In this article, I will discuss the various fat-soluble vitamins and get you on your way to creating a healthy diet!
The following is a description of each fat-soluble vitamin:
Vitamin A - Can be found in liver, dairy, and cod liver oil. Helps our cells reproduce normally, stimulates our immune system, and is required for the formation of protein, bone, and growth hormone. Aids in fighting infection, PMS, urinary tract infections, and acne. May reduce harmful cholesterol levels, and reduce the risk of heart attacks. Vitamin A may prevent night blindness, improve eyesight, and strengthen our teeth, bones, hair and gums.
Vitamin D - Can be found in cod liver oil, egg yolks, and butter, but the majority of vitamin D can be supplemented by sunlight exposure. Helps our bodies to absorb calcium and vitamin A. If taken with vitamins C and A, it can help to prevent colds. Without vitamin D, phosphorus and calcium cannot build strong bones and teeth. Also aids in preventing migraine headaches and osteoporosis.
Vitamin E - Look for Vitamin E in wheat germ oil, nuts, seeds, vegetable oils, whole grains, egg yolks and leafy green vegetables. Aids in PMS, cold sores, increased energy, and wound healing. Helps keep our skin looking young, aids oxygen in traveling throughout our bodies, prevents and dissolves blood clots, and helps wounds heal faster. Also aids in lowering blood pressure, minimizing leg cramps, and in helping nerves convey messages faster.
Vitamin K - Found in leafy green vegetables. Vitamin K is needed for proper bone formation and blood clotting. Helps the body transport calcium.
Proper nutrition is the key to a long and healthy life. Make wise food choices each and every day to maintain the healthy lifestyle that we all aim for!

There are certain behavior problems associated with ADD that results in other problems. Children who tend to show disruptive behavior in school are often labeled as bullies or trouble makers. Some people also label them as plain dumb.
Children suffering from other end of the disease are often termed as lazy or underachieving. In order to make things worse, these children face difficulty in understanding what's wrong with their behavior. This explains the tendency to become shocked when things go wrong. One of the biggest challenges is to improve the behavior of the ADD child & teaching him to recognize the consequences of the actions he indulges in. It is also difficult to let him see things from other people's point of view.
Here are some important steps to take in order to help students managing the behavior in class with ADD:
- Identity problem behavior
You need to objectively identity what problem that's interrupting the child's learning. In this case, you may take help of some of the other instructors. Make a chart. List the behavior that occurs most frequently. Try to figure out what triggers it & what is the degree of disruption. You need to be as specific as possible. For each problem that you recognize, try to jot down at least one strategy that may eliminate or change the behavior.
- Identify the problem in class environment
You need to look at the way you & other instructions treat the child, think whether you are over harsh. You need to analyze whether you are expecting more than the required from your child. Try to change your behavior if you are in a habit to punish your child more than often.
-Healthy behavior
You should actually exhibit behaviors that you want the child to follow.
- Partner for difficult tasks
In case, a child is struggling to learn or remember a skill, assist him with a responsible older child or an instructor for providing help. The older child must know that his job is to act as a role model & a helper. This will let him understand the child with ADD better & behave accordingly.
- Feedback
You need to keep a track of the amount of positive & negative feedback you are giving to a child with ADD in class. You need to focus on areas where you can praise the child.
- Be specific
An ADD child needs specific action messages & instructions. Try to know the exact difficulty of the child such as what he can't pay attention to or what makes him aggravate or behave in a particular problem.
-Use rewards
Look for appropriate rewards for the child. You can praise the child in front of the class to raise his or her confidence level. Go for stars or tickets for material award. This will encourage him to act well the next time.
- Never use ADD for an excuse
Never use ADD for an excuse for a child's behavior. You need to make efforts to help the child improve his behavior. Take time, understand the child's behavior & act accordingly.

Autism is a type of bio neurological disorder that tends to affect the ability of a person to interact socially & communicate in an effective manner.
There are several symptoms that would suggest you a child with Autism. Remember that the severity of symptoms varies from one individual to the other. However, there is a common connection between the core symptoms in the following areas:
a) Relationships & Social interaction:
• Facing trouble in developing non-verbal communication skills including body posture, facial expressions & eye contact.
• Inability to develop friendships with children of similar age group.
• No interest in sharing interests, enjoyment and/or achievements with other people.
• Lack of empathy. Children with autism may face trouble in understanding feeling of other people including sorrow or pain.
b) Verbal & Non-Verbal Communication:
• Taking too much time to talk. It is proved that about 50 percent of people with autism can never speak.
• Facing difficulty in cracking a conversation. People with autism often develop problems in holding on to a conversation once it has been started.
• Repetitive use of language. People with autism usually repeat a particular phrase again & again that they have heard before.
• Unable to understand listeners' perspective. For instance, a child with autism will never understand that someone is cracking a joke or using a slang. They take every word literally & usually fail to understand the real meaning of the conversation.
c) Restricted interest in activities or play:
• Children with autism develop a unique & unusual concentration on pieces. They concentrate on a particular part of toy such as wheels on a car rather than enjoying the activity with the entire toy.
• Children with autism tend to preoccupy their minds with certain topics. For instance, older children & adults get easily fascinated by train scheduler license plates or weather patterns.
• Children with autism often crave for sameness & routines. For instance, the child will always want to eat bread just before salad. He may also want to drive on the same route to school daily.
• They exhibit stereotyped behaviors. These behaviors include hand flapping & body rocking.
Once you observe above-mentioned symptoms in a child, you should know that the child has developed autism. You need to seek emergency medical attention if you observe the following symptoms:
• An infant or a child does not respond to people around him.
• An infant or a child resists cuddling.
• If a child is not pointing to objects, engaging in simple interactions or bringing items to you.
• A child does not use any words or tries to communicate by the age of eighteen months.
• The child exhibits self injurious behavior such as banging his head or shows aggression frequently.
• The child shows repetitive behavior such as spinning wheels, turning a toy car upside down etc.
• The child avoids eye contact or wants to be left alone.
• The child does not play 'pretend' games.
• The child finds it difficult to relate to others.
In case your doctor feels that there could be a problem, it would be good to look for a referral in order to visit a developmental pediatrician or a specialist. You may even contact your local early intervention agency for a child under three years of age or a public school for children above three.

According to experts autism can be linked with different types of food allergies & sensitivities.
Experts provide adept treatment for autism via prescribing special diet to the child. Three most popular diet & vitamin interventions for autism include the following:
• The casein & gluten free diet
• Vitamin B-12, A, D and C supplements.
• Cod liver oil.
The real cause of autism is unknown. Hence, any treatment linked to diet for autism should be confirmed with a professional first.
a) The Casein & Gluten - Free Diet
Casein & Gluten are commonly found in dairy, barley, oat, rye & wheat products. Experts suggest this diet because autistic people are unable to digest these proteins. When taken, these proteins hang around in the body just to activate neurotransmitter receptors inside the brain just as opiate drugs would do. Elimination of foods containing casein & gluten from diet will definitely reduce the cause of autism. However, such a diet is very restrictive & extremely challenging to follow. One is not allowed to eat bread or dairy products.
b) Vitamins & Supplements
Autism can also be treated via providing vitamins & supplements. Vitamins B complex is the most commonly used vitamin as it helps central nervous system to create enzymes & assists in functioning. The vitamin also works towards maintaining the nervous system. This vitamin has also proved to improve eye contact, behavior & attention for some people with autism. Vitamin C is also related to brain functioning. Certain reports have found that vitamin C supplements improve autism symptoms. Children taking vitamin C supplements are known to experience improvement in behavior, communication attempts & eye contact.
c) Cod liver oil
These contain high levels of vitamins A and D. These vitamins are known to improve eye contact and behavior in certain autistic cases. Fish oils have also been connected to improve brain functioning.
There are other autism diet recommendation where cutting down on yeast & sugars is suggested. One is asked to consume a good number of fresh fruits & vegetables.
Diet rich in amino acids, calcium, magnesium & zinc are also prescribed to the child. Most of these supplements are available in chewable form with a high dose of sugar. Experts also suggest enzymes supplements to help overcoming symptoms of autism.
Berries are supposed to be extremely nutritious & rich in antioxidants. You can give your child a high dose of blueberries, raspberries & strawberries. Try to include more servings of vegetables in their diet. Go or vegetables such as sweet red pepper, carrot & broccoli. You need to understand that kids are kids & they have their individual task irrespective of whether they have autism or not.
You should keep in mind their love for specific food type & try not to be too strict with them.
It is important to fix up a diet for your child with autism. However, it is important to contact a health care professional prior to going for any sort of dietary change. This will give you an idea of what's good for your child & what's not.
Don't shirk away from asking a lot of questions to your doctor. Try to monitor your child's progress on a regular basis.
Handle your child with lot of love, care, presence & appreciation.

In this day and age, people are living longer and longer, which is fantastic news for us all! Human advances in medicine and other pertinent areas have extended the average lifespan for humans to 77.2 years!
A longer lifespan is great news for us all, yet as we get older, it's typical to experience a variety of aged-related problems. While living longer is our goal, I think we all agree we can do without the physical aging part. What can be done to combat the aging process?
Recently, scientists have identified some key nutrients in food that can help with anti-aging.
Heart disease, memory loss, and wrinkles, to name a few, are all aging symptoms we will all experience sooner or later due to free radicals.
Free radicals are harmful oxygen molecules that damage our cells leading to several age-related problems. But how can we combat these free radicals? By eating citrus fruits! Their abundant source of vitamin C helps prevent wrinkles, protects our arteries, and reduces our risk of heart disease and stroke.
What foods are best for anti-aging?
Spinach and Grapefruit.
Spinach is rich with carotenoids, which help to protect the eye from macular degeneration (a leading cause of blindness in the elderly).
Grapefruit is full of glutathione, which helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Tomatoes and Watermelon.
Tomatoes and watermelon both contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. They are so powerful; they can even help to prevent the growth of tumors!
Other Important Nutrients
As we age, our appetite naturally slows down and our body absorbs fewer nutrients, as it once was able to do. Couple that with the fact that many of us simply do not eat the right amount of fruits and vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and we have a diet that is lacking. To make sure you get in the right amount of nutrients everyday, include the following in your diet to insure that you are giving your body what it needs.
Beta-Carotene: This can be found in carrots, yellow squash, and bright colored vegetables. This antioxidant helps prevent wrinkles, dry skin, cataracts, heart disease, and cancer. One sweet potato gives your body about 15 mg. of beta-carotene: the amount doctors recommend we take in each day.
Vitamin E: Nuts, wheat germ, and cooking oil. Consuming the right amount of vitamin E can cut the risk of heart disease in half. All you need is just 2 tsp. of sunflower seeds a day to get in half of this important nutrient.
Zinc and Calcium: These are the two most important minerals in your diet! Calcium can be found in dairy foods, and green, leafy vegetables. Calcium is crucial for preventing osteoporosis! Zinc can be found in meats and shellfish, which help to keep the immune system strong.
B Vitamins: B vitamins help to maintain our energy and keep our nerves and brain healthy. You can find B vitamins in leafy greens, potatoes, bananas, meats, and legumes.
Our nutritional needs change as we age, so make sure your diet changes along with what your body needs. Paying just a little more attention will help you life a longer life of health and vitality!

Most of us all assume that the older we get, the more forgetful we become. But did you know that forgetfulness does not necessarily have to happen?
Studies have found that older people forget more often when they are expected to. For example, in China, older people score great on memory tests: and in this culture, they are never told how forgetful they are.
Studies are showing how important our food intake and a proper diet actually are in maximizing our potential and brainpower. Good, nutritious food has the ability to sharpen thinking by helping the cells of the nervous system function properly.
A good diet positively affects the operation of brain-related enzymes, helps get rid of cellular waste, and helps to nourish the structure of brain cells. Proper nutrition and a healthy diet also can help to regulate vital chemicals that aide in a variety of mental processes and influences the amount of oxygen and energy that is delivered to the brain.
How should I eat?
What we eat, and even when we eat has an effect on our brainpower. How many of us have skipped breakfast in the morning only to feel mentally slumped throughout the day? Breakfast, in my opinion, is THE most important meal of the day as it plays a critical role in jump-starting the brain after a long sleep with no nourishment.
It has been found among school-aged children that those who skipped breakfast made significantly more mistakes in their schoolwork than those who ate a good breakfast. This also applies to adults and their work.
Breakfast is vitally important: just make sure you are eating the right foods. Sugary breakfasts with little nutritional value will not help your brain during the day. In fact, they can make you feel sleepy, cranky, and all around yucky! Make sure to select healthy
breakfast foods.
What should I eat?
Stay away from refined sugar, simple carbohydrates, and processed foods for maximum brainpower. Low-fat, healthy whole-foods, vegetables, and fruits are all great choices! Here are some especially great nutrients that can help give your brain a boost:
Choline: Choline is imperative in manufacturing the memory nerve chemical acetylcholine. The body makes some, but by adding brewers yeast, egg yolks, peanuts, liver, and wheat germ, you can possibly improve your memory and get more out of your food.
Antioxidants: Antioxidants such as vitamin A, C, and E can block free radicals from damaging the brain cells and can even help to ward off Alzheimer's disease. Broccoli, carrots, cantaloupe, oranges, kiwi, prunes, and sweet potatoes are all wonderful choices in boosting your antioxidant intake.
B Vitamins: B vitamins play a big role in nerve and brain function. Boost your intake by adding chicken, collard greens, oranges, salmon, and low-fat milk into your diet.
Iron: Iron helps to carry oxygen to the body. Chicken, enriched cereal, and lean red meats will help your body get the iron it needs.
Herbs: Ginkgo Biloba and Kava both have the ability to improve your memory and provide clear thinking.
The old saying, "You are what you eat" may hold a lot of truth when it comes to your brain. Eat processed, sugary foods and your brain will respond slow and unclear. Eat healthy, whole-foods, and your brain will be sharp as a tack!

Article Title: The Dangers Of Excess Salt And How To Reduce Your Intake

We all know that excess salt is not good for our health. But did you know that the effects of a high salt diet could contribute to Alzheimer's disease, asthma, stomach cancer, hypertension, and kidney stones? High salt intake is also speculated to affect intelligence and memory!
Now I know a lot of us, including me, crave that salty flavor from time to time. And after all, salt does provide us with much needed sodium and greatly appreciated flavor. But oftentimes, we over do it.
Salt is readily available in so many forms, that we may not even know how much salt we are actually consuming. Did you know that Americans routinely take in as much as 4000 milligrams of sodium each day? That is about 8 times the minimum daily requirement!
Chronic salt intake not only over does our sodium intake, but also affects the balance between sodium and potassium. In our cells, it is important that the high levels of potassium stay within our cells while high concentrations of sodium stay out.
If the salt-potassium balance is out of whack with the sodium levels exceeding the potassium levels, healthy cellular metabolism is compromised. As a result, resistance to disease and illness is weakened.
So, the logical response to this is, "OK, so if I eat a lot of potassium, I will balance out quite nicely."
Not the case. Changing potassium intake quickly can result in irregular heartbeats and even heart attacks, not to mention affecting the absorption of calcium.
The healthy response to sodium is this: cut back. We do not need a lot of sodium, so why are we taking in so much? In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, we MUST cut back on our salt intake.
Tips on Reducing Salt in Your Diet
It really is quite easy to cut back on unnecessary salt. Here are a few suggestions from the book The Salt Solution.
1. Watch for the foods that are obviously heavy in salt. Processed foods are the biggest criminals in the salt world. Read the labels sometime on some of your favorite processed food items. The high levels of sodium will shock you! What are some of the other culprits? Movie popcorn, pickles, chips, processed lunchmeats, salted nuts, and bacon, to name a few. Cut them out all together, or at least greatly minimize your intake.
2. Try a salt substitute. Some of these salt substitutes contain 54% less sodium than salt! That is a huge reduction and definitely an avenue to consider. You can also try other seasonings like garlic, onions, and peppers.
3. Order smart at restaurants. Restaurant soups and a variety of dishes served in restaurants are incredibly high in sodium. Remember this point: very few restaurants are conscious about the health effects of different food items. They are in the business of creating great tasting meals, and rightly so. Be very aware of what you're ordering. It might even be best to stick with fresh items such as salads and grilled meats with no salty seasonings.
Your long-term health is in one way determined by what you put in your mouth. While spoiling yourself every now and again is OK in my book, frequent poor eating habits are sure to affect your health in ways you will not want. Create new, healthy habits and you will be sure to live a life full of vitality!

Humans have been training dogs to carry out tasks for them since prehistoric times, when the main use for a dog was to help humans in their hunt for food. As now, dogs would be trained to hunt and catch small animals such as rabbits and hares, and also to track larger prey which the dog would either bring to bay to be finally killed by its master, or would chase towards a party of men who would then dispatch the larger animal.
Through time dogs were found to be useful for other tasks, apart from hunting, such as herding sheep that draws on the animal's natural hunting instinct, and to guard their owners' property. As the training of our K9 friend became more sophisticated they were put to a variety of uses such as law enforcement and leading the blind through unfamiliar territory.
Dogs are now used as pets as well as put to work, and even a pet K9 benefits from good and strict training that enables them to become a member of the family and society in which they live. The training of a dog is not as simple as teaching it tricks or how to obey instructions by the sound of your voice, but is more of a social conditioning. Before undertaking the training of a dog it is essential that the owner learns something about their psychology and the way that dogs socialize with their own species in the wild.
Dogs are pack animals, as anybody that has seen films of wild dogs hunting will understand. Wolves are a species of K9, and everybody understands that wolves hunt in packs. The secret in training a dog to become a well behaved member of your family is to show the dog that you are the leader of the pack that your dog belongs to. This leader is called the alpha, and the alpha leads the pack in everything that it does. All other animals obey the alpha, and the job of the trainer is to communicate to the animal that he or she is the alpha and must be obeyed.
Once your dog understands this it will obey you, assuming that it understands the instruction being given. If you continue to give your dog an instruction that it does not understand it will become frustrated and might vent that frustration as anger or aggression, just as humans do. However, if you understand its psychology, you will be able to teach your dog what is acceptable behavior and what is not, and also how to behave in certain situations. For example the dog will be trained to understand that your home is not a toilet, and that it is not to sit on your favorite chair, and so on. The benefits of this type of training go far beyond simply having a dog that obeys you and that can 'do tricks'.
A well trained K9 is one that understands its place in your society, and it is happier knowing this. Dogs that get conflicting signals, and that are not given a clear lead by the alpha (you) become confused and consequently misbehaved. A well trained dog will form a lifelong bond with its owner, and will be able socialize as part of your family. When the dog instinctively follows your lead and your instructions it is not only seen as a being well behaved, but is also a happy dog.
It is important when training a dog to understand that they become afraid of what they do not understand, and become fearful when their routine is changed. A part of their training, then, should be to introduce them to a number of different environments and different people so that are less liable to come across change. However, an owner that understands this K9 characteristic will tend to own a dog that is less liable to become aggressive in certain situations because they can foresee the possible result of specific situations into which a dog can be put.
Young children, for example can create great stress within a dog not used to them, and a dog that is rarely involved with children should never be left alone with them. The dog will feel that it is the alpha relative to the child, and will punish the child for overstepping its authority just as it would another dog.
Another aspect of K9 training is exercise. A healthy dog needs a lot of exercise and a dog kept locked in a house all day can become very stressed and extremely difficult to train properly. It will also become bored, and be difficult to control. On the other hand, a well trained dog with plenty of exercise will be well behaved. Keep in mind that dogs are dogs, and should be allowed to be dogs now and again. Also keep in mind that your dog's pack is your family, and you should expect it to be jealous of any newcomers to your family. The dog will need to be trained to accept a new baby for example.
If you take the time to train your K9 friend properly, you will have a healthy and happy dog that will be able to socialize and live with your family with any problems. It is when the dog is ignored and lacks exercise and attention, or when it does not understand your instructions, that it can become 'bad'. A 'bad' dog is indicative of a bad owner.
The benefits of K9 training combine to give you a lifelong companion that will not only be faithful to you and your family, but that will also be happy and easily controllable wherever you take it.

Article Title: How To Find Great Deals Online For Your K9 Friend

*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
There are many ways in which you can find great deals online for your K9 friend. Where you find them depends a great deal on what it is you are looking for, and the type of dog that you have, but the internet is such a vast place that there is nothing that you cannot find.
There are many websites that sell dog-related items, from articles for the dog lover such as dog art and dog bookends to dog leads and dog's toys. Many are specialized sites that deal in one type of item such as ceramics or books, where you can get dog figures and books on dog training, and others that are more specifically related to dogs, offering baskets, baths and beds. However, if you are looking for a good deal as opposed to a good range of products, there are specific types of site that you should look out for.
Auction sites are generally good places to find good prices on any kind of item, not only on dog related goods, and most can be relied upon to offer something suitable for your K9 friend. EBay is by far the biggest online auction site, but it is by no means the only one. Good bargains can often be found on the smaller sites where there are fewer buyers contending for the K9 related items being auctioned. Such sites provide a very convenient way of purchasing goods at reduced prices, and you can frequently get genuine bargains that are considerably cheaper than prices found at the average online store.
The principle of online auctions is the same as any other auction in that there is generally a starting price, above which potential purchasers bid for the item. If there is a lot of competition for a particular item, such as a particular dog figurine, then the price will generally be higher than if competition is light, and it is not unknown for bidders to get carried away in the excitement of the bidding and end up paying a higher price on the auction site than they could have paid at a regular online store.
Another type of site that you can use to find bargain prices for doggy items is a comparison site. This type of site compares the prices offered by various online outlets for the same or similar products. What you get is a page containing a list of internet outlets together with the price for the product such as a make of dog leash or a particular type of dog basket. They frequently also offer a review of the particular store, and sometimes you are better paying a little extra to a reliable store with good reviews than to purchase cheaper from one that appears to have a poor delivery or service record.
Similar to this are review sites that offer reviews of specific products. You can carry out a search for a product type, and be provided with a number of alternatives, such as different models, together with a review of each that you can use to make up your mind which you want to choose. For example, there might be reviews on a number of alternative books on how to train your dog, or of the pros and cons of different types of dog collar or chain.
All of these are types of site that you can use to find great deals online for your K9 friend, but there is one type of site that probably beats all of these. That is the type of website that offers great products at low prices, but also provides information on the topic. For example, a site specializing in K9 items as a niche, and offering articles and other information on various K9 topics in addition to great offers on a large variety of dog related items.
The best combination is such a website and an auction site, and an information site also providing details of forthcoming eBay auctions relating to the specific niche would combine to provide relevant content on the niche such as dogs, and also great auction deals online for your K9 friend. There are not many such sites online, but they are very useful when you find them.
The benefit is that you are provided with good information, and also a reliable source of great K9 items at great prices.
About The Author: Useful information on a number of dog-related topics is available from http://www.k9unit.net/ where you will also find details of forthcoming K9 related eBay auctions at the fabulous prices you would expect from an online auction site.

If you have decided that you may want to do some sort of home improvement or remodeling project then you will definitely want to make sure that you hire the right person for the job. You will always hear horror stories about contractors, so it's best to do your research before you move on with your Joliet Construction and Remodeling job.
First you will want to begin by collecting referrals from your friends, neighbors, family and coworkers. People often find the best Joliet Construction and Remodeling contractor by word-of-mouth referrals and good recommendations, over advertising.
You may also search the web. Besides checking through Google, Yahoo and other local search engines, you can search an array of online directories to find a good, honest contractor services in Joliet.
Next after you have accumulated some referrals that interest you, begin by calling a few on your list. Keep in mind that many good Joliet Construction and Remodeling contractors are busy working long, sometimes abnormal hours, so give them a day or two to return your phone call. If it takes longer than a day or two, remove them from your list as a good contractor should be accessible to potential clients.
Once you have started calling contractors or connecting with them online to inquire about their services, compare the contractors by their price quotes, their promptness, their attention to detail and their overall customer service.
You can also look for reviews online about the contractor or contractors that you narrow your list down to. Look at the pros and cons that other people have discovered when using the contractor you are considering. Also check out the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau will give honest reviews and/or criticisms about the specific contractor services in Joliet that you are considering and could be a major factor when deciding if you should sign a contract or not.
Interview your potential Joliet Construction and Remodeling contractor. Some good questions to ask include: How long have you been in business? What types of home improvement projects do you specialize in? When would you be available to start my project? It's also good to ask if they have done similar projects to yours in the past and how things went with that project.
Ask for bids from your potential choices. Make sure that your bids encompass everything that you require from your specific project. Be suspicious of contractors who bid your job super low as compared to your other bids. This is typically a red flag for a bad contractor, or one that may add on fees/charges as they go along.
Once you have decided upon a contractor for your job, make sure to get a formal contract in writing. Nothing can ruin a construction or remodeling project more than not having a written contract with all details, payments, fees, etc., spelled out in writing that is signed by both you and your contractor.
Do your research, conduct interviews, and play it smart and your Joliet Construction and Remodeling project will go off without a hitch!

If you have recently decided that you need a Santa Rosa Bathroom Remodeling Contractor and you can't do it yourself, then you need to know the few simple tips that will help you hire a good, honest contractor for your job.
First off, forget the phone book. Those old things are not only antiquated, but they also don't give you any real information. When it comes to most bathroom remodeling jobs, whether you hail from Santa Rosa or Santa Barbara, it's best to ask around. Talk to your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. Find out who they have used for their bathroom remodel in the past or if they have heard about any local Santa Rosa contractors.
Once you have collected the recommendations of those you trust, do your own online research for a few of the contractors. The more information you can gather the better. Search the web. Besides checking through Google, Yahoo and other local search engines, you can also check out a variety of sites and directories to find a good, honest contractor services in Santa Rosa.
Start calling contractors or connect with them online and inquire about their services. Compare the contractors by their price quotes, their promptness, their attention to detail and their overall customer service.
Next, you'll want to narrow down a few different contractors and call them up. Make arrangements to have them visit your home and bid on the job. Take your time in choosing the right contractor. Don't rush your decision as it may be many years before you remodel again – if you even remodel it again.
Look for reviews online about the contractor or contractors that you narrow your list down to. Look at the pros and cons that other people have discovered when using the contractor you are considering. You could also check out the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau will give honest reviews and/or criticisms about the specific contractor services in Santa Rosa that you are considering and could be a major factor when deciding if you should sign a contract or not.
Ask the specific contractor for personal and professional references. If they are an honest contractor providing contractor services in Santa Rosa, they will be willing to provide their own references so that you may do some research ahead of time.
Once you feel confident with the bid of your chosen contractor, make sure that you have everything in writing that your contractor has proposed for your bathroom remodel. Read the fine print and ask questions if you don't understand something that your Santa Rosa contractor has in their contract.
Be a good customer and allow your contractor to work in peace, and without interruptions. After they have completed the job and you are satisfied with the project, be sure to pay them promptly and spread the word to your friends, family, coworkers and neighbors to get them future business.

Because we use our home's bathroom countless times a day, it's important that you and your family are pleased with the way your bathroom looks. If you find that you are looking for a change and you are interested in conducting a Santa Rosa bathroom renovation, there are a few ways that you can inexpensively make some updates to your bathroom without draining your budget.
• Try some new paint. If your walls are drab, pick something brighter. If they are already colorful, perhaps you can add a border or split the wall in half with a different color. Keep in mind though that if you choose a darker color for your walls, the bathroom may appear smaller than it actually is. In that same sense, if you choose a lighter wall color, your bathroom will appear larger.
• Switch up the hardware. Your cabinets can look completely different just by changing up the hardware. Your local home improvement store has so much to offer these days in the areas of cabinet and drawer hardware that your possibilities are truly endless.
• Get organized! Add towel racks, shelving units and caddies for toiletries to clean up the clutter. Having an organized clean space will also give the appearance of a larger room at little to no cost when it comes to your bathroom renovation.
• Out with the old. Buy new towels, washcloths, shower curtain and rugs. Keep things fresh and rotate them on a regular basis to keep things lively and new.
While these are only a few ways to make your Santa Rosa bathroom look new again, there are plenty of other ways you can make some small changes inexpensively. Do some research and check out what others are doing to make their bathroom fresh again. Borrow their ideas and come up with some of your own too.
If these small improvements are enough and you're interested in hiring a good bathroom renovation contractor to help with your bathroom renovation, here are a few tips to keep in mind as well. A remodeled and/or renovated bathroom will typically return 80-90% of your investment at resale, and the enjoyment that you'll get once the complete is priceless. Remodeling your bathroom, depending on how drastic of a change you're looking for, can be a big task. Finding a good honest contractor to help handle the job is a necessity.
But before you pick up the phone, it's important to make some initial decisions. What's my budget? How strict is my budget? What do I want and what do I need? Do you have your heart set on specific building materials such as a tile shower or granite countertops? Once you've answered all of these questions it's time to start your search. A number of factors need to be taken into consideration when searching for your ideal bathroom remodeling contractor. Below are 4 tips toward finding a good, honest contractor.
• Did your contractor finish the job within budget? If not, what caused the overage?
• Were you informed of additional costs as they came up?
• How did the contractor handle setbacks or glitches? Was he or she easy to work with when the going got rough?
• What was the contractor's crew like? Were they respectful? Did they clean up after themselves each day?
• If plans were changed while the work was in progress, were the changes accommodated, or was the contractor inflexible?

Sure we would all love to be wealthy enough to change our home's interior on a whim, but since we more than likely aren't able to do this, you can at least make some small inexpensive updates to various parts of your house – including your kitchen. If you are thinking of taking on a Santa Rosa kitchen renovation we offer some ideas to help you determine some easy and inexpensive ways that you and your contractor can make an old kitchen new again.
New paint is always a good way to make a dull, lifeless kitchen new again. If you are not comfortable taking on a painting project in your kitchen it is best to hire a kitchen renovation expert that has experience in painting. This will alleviate headaches in the future especially if you are not experienced in painting yourself.
Updating the hardware on your cabinets and drawers is also a great kitchen renovation project. Your local home improvement store has so much to offer in the areas of hardware that you may have a hard time choosing just one new style!
Flooring is also another aspect of your kitchen that can always be updated inexpensively. While vinyl flooring is always the easiest and most inexpensive, you can also find some cheaper tile or laminates that will also work just as well.
Lighting fixtures can be updated fairly easily and cheaply, especially if you hit a good sale at your local home improvement store or wait until the end of season clearances.
Just making the simplest changes to your Santa Rosa kitchen can make all the difference. If you don't feel comfortable taking on the aforementioned projects yourself, seek out a good, honest Santa Rosa kitchen renovation contractor and let them do the work for you.
However, if you're looking for a full-blown change, then a total remodel might be the best avenue for you. If this is the case, a number of factors need to be taken into consideration when searching for your ideal kitchen remodeling contractor. Here are a few tips toward finding a good, honest contractor.
Prepare beforehand- It's important to figure out what you want to accomplish with your kitchen remodel before bringing in a contractor. From a practical perspective, figure out exactly what you want to change in your old kitchen and what details you want to see in your new kitchen. Write down a list of everything you want in your dream kitchen. This will help your contractor visualize what it is that you are looking for. You need to be familiar with your budget and prioritize your wants and needs accordingly. A kitchen remodel and can be a fairly long and arduous process. It's important to be realistic. It may take some time, by very messy, inconvenient and stressful. Being aware of what you're in for will lessen the strain that a kitchen remodel can have on you and your family. And knowing what you want will go a long way toward getting a kitchen that you truly love.

You may consider arthritis to be a disease of the elderly, but did you know that it could actually affect any age group? It is a well-established fact that two-thirds of those who experience arthritis are actually under the age of 65. For these 3 million Americans (that include children), normal, daily activities are hindered by swelling, pain, and stiffness. Arthritis can be very limiting.
What is arthritis?
There are over 100 different arthritic conditions that cause pain, limited movement, and stiffness in the connective tissues and joints throughout the entire body. Unfortunately, though, arthritis is chronic so once you have it, you will always have it. The good news is that there are things that can be done to help limit its effects on our bodies and daily life.
Types of Arthritis
There are three types of arthritis that affect individuals of all ages. They are:
1- Osteoarthritis. This is the most common form of arthritis caused by the cartilage in between the joints wearing down. It has been found that consuming adequate amounts of Vitamin C can protect the joints from free radicals and regenerate collagen, helping the body to repair any damage to the cartilage. Other nutrients that can help produce collagen include:
Vitamin A- found in cheddar cheese and liver.
Vitamin B6- found in wheat germ and white meat turkey & chicken.
Vitamin E- found in almonds and sunflower seeds Copper- found in whole grains and seafood.
Zinc- found in oysters, pumpkin seeds, and red meat.
Supplementing with glucosamine and chondroitin can also help, but be sure to check with your doctor before implementing these into your daily diet.
2- Rheumatoid Arthritis. This is a more serious form of arthritis. In this form, the immune system attacks the body causing swelling of the membranes that line the joints. Eventually, the joints are eaten away entirely. Nutrients that can help are:
Omega-3 fatty acids- found in cold-water fish like salmon, halibut, tuna, and sardines. They may be helpful in reducing stiffness & tenderness, and by improving overall joint function.
Gamma linolenic acid- found in evening primrose and borage seeds. This can help to fight painful inflammation.
3- Gout. Gout can be defined by experiencing excess amounts of uric acid, which is a by-product of the kidneys. When the kidneys are not working properly, uric acid builds up in the body and can crystallize around the joints causing pain and swelling. The following may help to reduce the onset of gout:
Water- Drinking lots of water can help to dilute uric acid in the blood and helps to flush it out of the body.
Cherries- these contain flavonoids that lower levels of uric acid.
Researchers have found that those who consumed a vegetarian diet saw dramatic improvement in arthritic symptoms within just a month. But if you're like me and just love your meat, try eating cold-water fish like salmon and tuna three times a week.
Supplementing your diet with herbal remedies such as evening primrose and borage can help, too.
A Healthy Weight
Being overweight can actually worsen arthritis since the extra pounds put more stress on our system as a whole. This, in turn, affects our mobility and the ease in which daily chores are performed. Maintaining a healthy weight is imperative if you are living with arthritis.
Living with Arthritis
There are 3 things that can be done to help minimize the effects of arthritis.
The first consists of medicine to relieve the discomfort and pain.
The second is to rest in order to heal the injured tissues.
And third: exercise to build strength. Do not forget proper nutrition in this equation!
As you can see, there are steps you can take to help limit the pain and discomfort of arthritis. Give these tips a try, and see if they work for you!

Do you know what the most common form of cancer is in the United States? If you answered, "skin cancer", you'd be correct. Approximately 1 million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer each year. That is an incredible amount! But if caught early, skin cancer can be curable.
What is skin cancer?
Skin cancer occurs when the outer skin cells grow abnormally.
What types of skin cancer are there?
There are three types of skin cancer. The two most common forms are squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas. The third type, melanoma, is less common but far more deadly.
How can I avoid skin cancer?
Protect your skin.
To protect against skin cancer, avoid exposure to ultra-violet rays. Make sure you use a sunscreen with any of the following ingredients listed in the top 2 positions in the ingredient list:
Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, or Parcal 1789.
After I learned this information, I checked my own sunscreen. It was SPH 50 and a well-known brand, so I felt confident. "With an SPH of 50, of course it is going to protect me", I thought. WRONG! None of the ingredients I just listed were included in my sunscreen.
I rushed to the store to find a sunscreen that included these most important ingredients but what I found (or did not find) shocked me.
Among all the common brands out there, not one had listed Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, or Parcal 1789 among the ingredients. I will be honest: it was hard to find but I eventually found one. A bonus was that it was actually far less expensive than what I have been paying all along for a sunscreen that was never protecting me against the harmful UV rays to begin with. So don't think you have to pay a fortune for a good quality sunscreen!
Limit your time in the sun during peak times.
The hours between 10am and 2pm are when damaging rays are at their peak. If you must be out during this time, wear your sunscreen and protective clothing like long-sleeved shirts, a brimmed hat, and sunglasses. Tanning beds and sunlamps are damaging so stay out of them, too!
What foods can help to discourage skin cancer?
What you eat can have an impact on the development of cancer. To reduce your overall risk of developing skin cancer, focus on getting in plenty of the following foods:
Soy
Tofu, miso, soybeans, tempeh, and soy milk contain phytochemicals that help to fight cancer.
Whole Grains
Cereal, breads, whole oats, wheat, and rice that contains folic acid and selenium all help to fight off cancer. (Brazil nuts also contain selenium, which help to ward off skin cancer).
Fruits and Vegetables
Broccoli, kale, peas, celery, red peppers, tomatoes, onions, beans, brussel sprouts, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, winter squash, and sweet potatoes are all great veggie choices! Citrus fruits, red grapefruit, cantaloupe, and strawberries are all examples of fruits that not only taste great, but also help to fight skin cancer.
Fish
Fish contains the valuable omega-3 fatty acids. Oily, cold-water fish (like salmon and tuna) are rich in not only omega-3's but also selenium.
Flaxseed Oil
This is another fantastic source of omega-3 fatty acids.
What about supplements?
Supplements are a great way to enhance your diet if you would like to give your diet a boost. Selenium, Vitamin E, Fish oil capsules, and ECGC (epigallocatechin-gallate) all help to fight skin cancer and can be a wonderful addition to your diet.
Are there any other steps I can take?
It is important to check your skin often for signs of skin cancer. Look for any irregularities that might show themselves in moles with irregular edges, color, or are longer that 6mm. I highly recommend visiting a dermatologist once a year for a skin and mole check to ensure you're safe from developing skin cancer.
With a few lifestyle changes, you can protect yourself against skin cancer and minimize its harmful effect on your health.
