Getting online psychic readings can open a person up to a world of frauds and those looking to only get money. It can be hard for a person to determine who is real and who is not. It helps to be armed with some important information before a person ever starts looking for a psychic reader.

There are generally two different types of psychic readers online. There are those who work for a company and those who have a private practice. Whether a person works for a company or for themselves is not an indication of if they are real or not. Sometimes a whole company can be a fake and sometimes individuals can be a fake. It goes either way. However, it helps to know if they are with a company or not. Sometimes companies offer a better chance of getting a refund then an individual. Sometimes individuals are more flexible. There are pros and cons to each.

When looking at companies it is important to see what type of testing procedures they have in their hiring process. If the company does not test their readers before hiring them then it is best to stir clear of them. Additionally, it helps to see what their refund policy is and if they keep records of the readings. Many online psychic readings are done in chat rooms or through email. If the reading is on record that can help when trying to get a refund.

With individuals it is smart to ask for references. They should be able to provide at least two happy clients for you to contact. Also check about what will happen if you are not satisfied.

As mentioned, most online psychic readings are done through chat rooms or email. In a chat room situation the client gets to talk with the reader as the reading is happening. It is like being face to face with the reader in some aspects. Chat room readings are nice because of the interaction. The client can ask questions and get clarification, if needed. Email readings can also be nice. Usually the reader will allow for follow up question, if needed, so the client can get clarification. Email readings are great for complex situations because the reader has time to work on the reading and isn't pressured into giving immediate answers.

There are endless options in online psychic readings. There are many companies who have psychic readers online 24 hours a day. If a person wants an online psychic reading they will have no trouble finding a place to get one. However, as mentioned it is also easy to get scammed. Some of the signs of a scam include, readers who give vague answers to questions, no refund policy, no management contact information, a business that is fairly new with no references and pricing that is higher than the average.

Online psychic readings are usually much cheaper than phone readings. Online readings are usually booked according to a set amount of time. For email readings the readings are priced according to the question type or the length of the reading. In general, a person can expect to pay between $60 and $100 for a half hour online chat room readings and from $20 and up for an email reading.

Online psychic readings give a person the freedom to get a psychic reading whenever they want. They can also research the reader better than they can with a phone reading. Many times a person will find that online psychic readings offer a much better quality, too, than phone readings. For anyone looking to get a psychic reading, online readings are a great choice.

Psychic readings can be anything from a tarot reading to a rune casting to astrology. A psychic reading can also be done without any divination tools. Basically, a psychic reading is when the reader tells a person, called the querent, the answers to their questions. The psychic reader uses their intuition to give the querent details and information.

Choosing a psychic reader can be difficult. There are many people who fake having psychic abilities. They tell people what they want to hear or use other tactics to give the querent answers. One of the best ways to find a psychic reader is through referrals. When a person gets a referral from a friend or relative they can usually trust that the psychic is worth going to. For someone who does not know much about how psychic reading work it can be difficult to tell the fake ones from the real ones.

A big aspect of finding a good psychic reader is that the reader and the querent need to be able to establish a good connection. The psychic connection between the querent and the reader allows the reader to open up and receive messages to give the querent. Usually a reader will know right away if they can or can not connect. If a person gets a reader that says they cannot read for them, then this is usually the case. They are not being rude, they just know they can not help you because they can not establish the connection. As a querent, the best way to tell if there is a connection is based upon the gut feeling. A querent should feel comfortable and at ease with the reader. Any hesitation or uneasiness will throw off the reading.

Once a person finds a reader they need to be able to clear their mind and focus on the situation at hand. They should have a good idea of what they want to know before starting their reading. They should be clear about their feelings in a given situation. It helps because the reader can then connect to these thoughts and feelings in order to get the answers. Many times a reader will want to hold hands or have everyone close their eyes, this is mainly to help the querent stay focused. Sometimes the reader will try to set a calm and mellow mood by using candle light and burning incense.

During the reading the reader may use tools like tarot cards, runes or even a crystal ball. These tools are just an aid for the reader and can also be helpful to the querent. A querent who is even slightly skeptical can then se by the tools that the reader is not just saying things out of thin air. The tools serve as a guide and can help clarify messages the reader may be getting.

A psychic reader can help a querent, but they can not tell them with 100% certainty that something will or will not happen. No psychic reading is positive. The future is not written in stone and as such, nobody can tell anyone else their exact future. Psychic readers can tell a person what may happen based upon their current situation. Any changes in the querent situation and their future may be altered.

A psychic reader is like a guide to the psychic realm. Some people are more prone or find it easier to communicate with those who have passed over, angels or higher beings. These people, psychic readers, work to help others try to make the most of their lives and try to help them get clarity when needed in tough situations.

Article Title: Effective Incentives When Selling Your Home

When trying to sell your home, there are certain incentives that can attract buyers. However, these incentives don't often include things such as large screen televisions or expensive cars in the driveway. Often homebuyers will assume that these gimmicks have been included in the price of the home and they could actually turn buyers off of your property. Instead, more practical incentives such as the actual cost of the home and the amount of their monthly payments are likely to be much more attractive.

Incentives can be stated at the very beginning of the home selling process to make it stand out from the rest of the houses on the market or they can be added several months after the property has been listed to help it sell. The incentives could also be brought up during negotiations to help encourage the buyer to buy the home. A seller needs to consider all factors when offering incentives. Both the selling price and the incentives need to be considered to determine if it is worth it to the seller to offer the incentives.

Price reductions are usually the first incentive that is considered. This is due to the fact that the price will attract everybody. If a buyer is considering the house but is hesitant on making a commitment, dropping the price by even five or ten thousand could make all the difference.

Another big incentive the seller can offer to is to pay mortgage points for the buyer. Buyers are always thinking about interest rates and one point is equal to one percent of the mortgage in prepaid interest. Having a lower interest rate or lower monthly payment will also be something that everyone can relate to and can draw in all different kinds of buyers.

Another key factor that buyers are always considering is the size of the down payment they will need to be making. In fact, it's one of the aspects of homeownership that most first time buyers have a difficult time with. This is advantageous to buyers due to the fact that they would not need to have such a large portion of funds available at the time of purchase.

Closing costs is often used as an incentive as buyers aren't interested in paying additional fees to lawyers and title insurance after they have purchased a home. And these costs aren't small – they usually add up to approximately two percent and seven percent of the cost. Buyers, especially those having an already difficult time with the down payment, will be very interested in these types of incentives.

A very interesting incentive that is sometimes offered is a warranty. The seller will often offer a warranty on the home's systems such as plumbing and electrical for the first year after the house is sold. This provides a much needed feeling of security for homebuyers. And costing only a few hundred dollars, it's worth it for the seller to make offer this incentive as well.

Creative little perks can also be thought of for incentives to selling a home. If the residence is in a condominium complex, the first year's association fees could be paid. Or if the home comes equipped with a pool, the seller could offer to pay for the upkeep and maintenance for a year. Many of these small details may come up in negotiations as buyers and sellers both think of things that would be useful.

When it comes to various psychic abilities and powers, there are many different ways in which a person might get a reading or might get an idea of the past, present, or future. There are several ways that psychic ability manifests itself, and there are several different psychic gifts that one might possess.

One of these ways is called clairsentience. This is a complex psychic ability. One of the most interesting things about clairsentience is that it is the gift that is most often ignored, or not even noticed by those that have it.

    Touch

Clairsentience involves getting a glimpse of other realities or even entities through a sense of touch. This would occur when a psychic lays their hands on someone, or when they touch something that contains a link to another world that they can see. Clairsentience can manifest itself myriad ways and it is an ability that is often hard to explain or to diagnose.

There are many different ways that clairsentience can manifest itself. This could be a tickling sensation on the body when it comes into contact with the spirit. Many people experience this when they are in contact with a spirit, and it is usually in the form of a tickling sensation on the face, hands, or the neck. It might also be the feeling of the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end when you are touched by a spirit. This too might be something that people feel when they are not aware of their psychic abilities. Often it would be written off as something else, but this is what it is. The idea of clairsentience is something that is often overlooked, even by those that have it.

Clairsentience can also be noted as a sensation the left side of your face when you are talking with a spirit. This is because the energy of the spirit is going to enter through the left side of the body and is going to exit on the right side of the body. This means that when you are in contact with a spirit you are going to have a sensation on the left side of your face.

Another way that Clairsentience might manifest itself is the feeling of pressure on the crown, or the top of their head. There are also other areas of the body where a person might feel pressure when they are talking with a spirit. In rare cases, you might actually feel a blow to somewhere on your body, and this might be a very physical blow. Clairsentience might also manifest as something that might be very subtle. It could be as mild as a cool breeze that you feel, or even as small as certain scents that you are able to smell, such as floral fragrances or other fragrances.

No matter how clairsentience manifests itself, it is a psychic ability that can be the hardest to interpret and the hardest to notice. There might be many people who have the gift of clairsentience but who have never known that they have. If you have a tendency to feel strange things, or to smell or notice things that aren't there, you might find that you actually have the gift of clairsentience but you have never noticed it before!

There are many ways that you can see if this is a gift that you have. You should speak with someone who is a physic, and who can provide you with more details about the various forms of the gift of Clairsentience, to see whether or not this is something that you believe you might have.

Fractional ownership is a concept that started with jets. It allowed those who wanted occasional access to jets to own part of them for use and not have to worry about tarmac fees, and maintenance. This allows the buyer to enjoy the benefits of enjoying a jet without paying the full price of full ownership. These days, fractional ownership can be applied to just about anything with fractional ownership in real estate becoming more popular.

When many people hear about fractional ownership, they think that it is the same thing as purchasing a timeshare but the two are very different. The only thing one owns after purchasing a timeshare is the right to use that piece of property for a certain period of time. The value of a timeshare also usually decreases over time. With fractional ownership, the buyer has an actual title and deed, which they can then do whatever they would like with it. They can leave it to a loved one in their will or even sell it. Also, if the value of the property increases over time, the value of the fractional ownership will also increase.

Buying into fractional ownership has the advantages of investing in a low maintenance piece of property. In fact, there is virtually no maintenance with these opportunities. One never has to worry about upkeep, repairs, or housekeeping. This is because of the initial purchase, there is a small yearly fee, which will take care of everything related to the property. This fee will also cover any amenities the property features such as swimming pools, fitness centres, and golf courses. Many other amenities that are exclusive to fractional ownerships are the perks that they include. With many fractional ownerships, Owners may have the staff at these communities pre-stock the fridge before the owner arrives, pick them up at the airport, rent a car and have it ready for them at the property, and make dinner reservations.

There are many beautiful communities that are now offering fractional ownership. One of these is Lighthouse Key resort and spa in Orlando, Florida. This beautiful resort community is currently selling shares in 1/13th increments. This will entitle the buyer to use the property for four weeks out of the year. This property has two-bedroom units available for approximately $40,000 and four-bedroom units available for $80,000. Another perk that this community offers is that if the buyer can't use all four weeks, the remaining time can be placed into a rental program, allowing the owner to actually make money off of their property.

The small yearly dues at Lighthouse Key include the usage of the community amenities such as a billiards and arcade room, a movie theatre, a luxurious clubhouse, a fitness center, and a beautiful pool.

To decide if fractional ownership is the right choice for you, you must look at such factors as to whether you will gain full use of the property year after year and if the property has any likelihood of increasing in value. The current market and the cost of entry should also be analyzed. Fractional ownership can be a wonderful way to create a beautiful getaway that you can visit year after year without paying the full cost.

When one reviews eBay stores, like I do, you get one overall impression - most eBay stores look the same. Most people seem to simply stick with the defaults when they set up their eBay store and leave it like that until the cows come home.

Now, there's not much wrong with the default eBay store settings. It's clean and functional. However, consider what it tells the eBay buyer, who has the ability to browse many stores that sell the same or similar items as your store.

Amongst the masses of stores, an eBay store with the default storefront settings firstly tells the eBay buyer that the store owner did not want to put in any extra effort into his/her store. That's Strike One in the perception of the eBay shopper.

Secondly, a default storefront does not provide the eBay surfer with a mental or emotional "hook" to remember your store or make it stand out from amongst the rest. The eBayer might decide, "I want to browse a few more stores to check their items and prices." By the time they are two or three stores away from your vanilla eBay store, they have completely forgotten about it.

Here are some tips you can consider to make your eBay storefront look different from the rest.

    1) Design a pleasing and striking logo and place that on all your store pages. With the logo, you are branding your store with something unique.

    2) Pick a color scheme that compliments the items or products you sell and also ensure that the color scheme compliments the logo you designed.

    3) Pick matching colors for the different page elements, and make sure that the text is easily readable on the background, because clashing colors have the effect of putting people off.

    4) Purchase a commercial eBay storefront template and install it on your eBay store pages, which will immediately make it different from all the stores that picked the default eBay store layout.

    5) Go all the way and have a custom store layout designed for you by professional web designers, which will ensure that your eBay store looks exactly the way you desire and is completely unique.

Making a success with your eBay store depends on many different factors and the look and feel of your storefront is in the top half of the list of factors.

Demonstrate to the eBay buyer that you are taking your business very seriously and that you are prepared to put extra effort into your eBay store. That will make more people linger a little longer on your store pages or have them return to it from browsing other stores, giving your items more time to catch their eye and cause them to click on that Buy It Now link.

    *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

Mystery surrounds the concept of leather trousers, especially on men. While leather jackets are very common and shoes are rarely made of anything else, leather trousers have remained off the hangers. While we've donned leather driving gloves, folded our money into leather wallets and purses and carried them in leather bags, our legs have stayed, for the most part, unleathered.

    Why should this be?

Leather is a pretty normal material with an extremely long history. Our prehistoric ancestors are well known for their taste in animal skins, a look that remained popular as late as 1966 when Raquel Welch showed us how it's done in Hammer Films' One Million Years BC. However, the smell, caused by fur's tendency to rot away, might have had an impact on its demise. But at some point, it was discovered that by a process of drying, stretching and treating, leather could be made that lasted more or less forever while retaining some of the warming properties of fur.

We know that leather was worn at least 5000 years ago thanks to Otzi, "The Iceman", an unfortunate whose body was found in the Italian Alps in 1991. His frozen remains were a revelation because of the insight it gave us into life back then. And yes, he liked a bit of leather. His belt, loin cloth, leggings, coat and shoes were not only all made of leather, but were all made from different animals' skins. The skills were clearly passed down the generations as we know the Greeks and Romans were big on leather, and since they laid the foundations of modern civilisation, the fabric has stayed with us.

So why haven't leather trousers caught on in the same ways as leather has covered the rest of our bodies? Indeed, why is it that only a small number of men can truly pull off the look? A brief mental search will probably only come up with Richard Roundtree in Shaft, Jim Morrison, lead singer with The Doors, and arguably some of the monsters of the heavy rock and punk eras, but numbers are small. Most of the time a man in leather trousers would be seen as a bit of a figure of fun, someone who is trying too hard to be suave and sexy.

The problem with this analysis is that it isn't really fair. It's just another material with its own properties, and if it's worn correctly on any part of the body it will blend into the look perfectly. In fact, there's a chance you might have seen a man in leather trousers in the past week and not even noticed it!

Could it be time to ease this lost fashion item back into the collective male wardrobe? Vintage clothing stores are certainly stocking them after they fell from grace in the 70s, but why would they waste floor space on an item that doesn't sell? Leather trousers do look like they are making a comeback. They will probably remain under the radar and will never replace jeans as the most popular form of legwear, but for that special garment to be brought out every now and again … well, just consider it.

About The Author: James knows a lot about fashion, but the mystery of men's leather trousers is still one that puzzles him. There are vintage clothing shops up and down the country like http://www.rokit.co.uk/ with rails of these items, but where do they come from, who wears them and why do they remain popular.

The reality of home business ifs that not everyone makes it. In fact I knew from my research that 95% are bound to fail. I decided I was going to look for something free. I didn't want to waste my money if the statistics showed that more than likely I would fail. I found SFI it was free to join so I signed up.

When I joined SFI and started as a free member I was skeptical about the reality of home business. I found out that I wouldn't make any money unless I became an EA -meaning you either have to make so much in sales every month or you buy so much every month. Even though I was skeptical about the reality of home business I decided to get my EA status the easy way and buy a $30 membership that would give me EA status every month without having to worry about it.

I was put off by this until I realized that by becoming an EA I locked in my position on the powerline and everyone who joined SFI after me would contribute to my check. The first month isn't much but I calculated it out and within 3 months the SFI powerline will be paying for my EA status without my having to do anything. From there every penny earned on top of that is profit.

For my first month I made $10 with my powerline alone. At this pace the powerline will double every month and within three months the powerline alone will pay for the executive status. With in a year the powerline will actually be making some money, and that is just the POWERLINE which isn't the main money maker with SFI, just a bonus.

The real money maker is your own affiliates; they hold the real money making power. The one home business reality that I have learned is that you will not get rich overnight contrary to all the ads circulating. It will take time to build and any good business needs investing of time and money. I was willing to invest some money, but not a lot. I thought $30 a month was reasonable and if I could do this for the next year I would see some real profits.

The powerline is just a bonus. The real money comes by referring your own members and if you are really terrible at this there is a co-op that you can join and they will get them for you. Now, the reality of home business with SFI is that the real way to earn money is to get your affiliates to upgrade to EA. Imagine how easy that would be if you tell them that within 3 months their upgrade will pay for itself. How cool is that?!

Whenever my own affiliates go EA they get this great powerline feature as well as getting the power of their own team earning capabilities. The reality of home business it that it takes time, but with a great company like SFI it is a reality that you can have. Start today and by this time next year you will be taking a nice fat check to the bank and patting yourself on the back.

    What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural transparent lens, which helps us to focus on the objects we see.

The lens is mostly made of water and protein.

Due to age, some of the protein may clump together and start to cloud a small area of the lens. This is a cataract, and over time, it may grow larger and cloud more of the lens, making it harder to see.

What are the types of Cataract?

Cataracts are classified as one of three types:

    1. A nuclear cataract is most commonly seen as it forms.

This cataract forms in the nucleus, the center of the lens, and is due to natural aging changes.

    2. A cortical cataract, which forms in the outer lens cortex, gradually extends its spokes from the outside of the lens to the center. Many diabetics develop cortical cataracts.

    3. A subcapsular cataract begins at the back of the lens. People with diabetes, high farsightedness, retinitis pigmentosa or those taking high doses of steroids may develop a subcapsular cataract.

What are the Symptoms and Signs of Cataract?

A cataract begins slowly and at first has little effect on your vision.

There may some blurring of vision .

Light from the sun or a lamp may seem too bright or glaring.

Colors may not appear as bright as they once did.

    What Causes a Cataract?

The eye's lens changes as we age, forming cataracts.

    1. Exposure to ultraviolet light may be a cause of cataract development, so eye specialist recommend wearing sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.

    2. Other types of radiation such as from TV or PC monitors may also be causes. Airline pilots have a higher risk of developing nuclear cataract than non-pilots, and that the cause may be exposure to cosmic radiation.

    3. People with diabetes are at risk for developing a cataract. The same goes for users of steroids and diuretics.

    4. Other risk factors include cigarette smoke, air pollution and heavy alcohol consumption

    How is Cataract treated?

    Symptomatic treatment:

When symptoms begin to appear, you may be able to improve your vision for a while using new glasses, strong bifocals, magnification, appropriate lighting or other visual aids.

    Surgical treatment:

An intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted in the eye in place of the patient's clouded natural lens.

During surgery, the surgeon will remove your clouded lens, and in most cases replace it with a clear, plastic intraocular lens (IOL).

Cataract surgery is very successful in restoring vision.

    Can a Cataract be prevented?

Some eye care practitioners believe that a diet high in antioxidants, such as beta-carotene (vitamin A), selenium and vitamins C may slow down cataract development.

Eye drops such as Catalin & Quinax has been prescribed to slow down the development of cataract.

Most important is avoid direct sun rays and other forms of radiation from TV or PC monitors, polluted air and smoking.

Dozens of lovely lakes and the feeling of "being at home" combine to make Winter Garden a community with some of the most sought after prime real estate in all of the Orlando and Central Florida region. Through the years, Winter Garden has developed a solid reputation as being the quintessential idyllic "home town." Since its founding in the middle part of the 1800s, Winter Garden was a Floridian citrus community like many of the other small towns that came to life in Central Florida, within close proximity to Orlando.

The citrus trade in Winter Garden came to a horrible end in the 1980s when thoroughly destructive frosts demolished thousands of acres of citrus trees. The vital citrus industry, that once provided the lifeblood for Winter Garden, was in shambles. However, this devastation was not the end of Winter Garden. It marked a turning point from which Winter Garden went from being primarily an agricultural community to developing into the site of prime residential real estate that rapidly has become the envy of the Orlando and Central Florida region.

Winter Garden was reborn and became a community synonymous with great expectations and gracious living. Prime real estate was being developed in and around Winter Garden at an amazing and yet controlled and responsible pace. The "home town" flavor of the community remains as magnificent residential properties have been developed.

More than fifty remarkable developers have prime residential properties in construction at the present time. These marvelous residences do include some of the most magnificent properties to be found anywhere in the Orlando and Central Florida area. In addition, for many young families and for people looking for more affordable housing, Winter Garden has plenty of mid-level (and yet very stylish) residences for sale and in development across the city.

In addition to the prime real estate opportunities that draw people to Winter Garden, the chain and freestanding lakes add an unparalleled sense of beauty to the entire area. One would be hard pressed to find more compelling and stunning real estate than that which is situated around and along the beautiful lakes that abound at Winter Garden.

Ocoee, Florida, finds its roots in the citrus industry. What became the city of Ocoee was founded by a physician named JD Starke and a group of slaves in the mid-19th century. For generations, Ocoee was a slumbering citrus community. All of this changed when the vicious frosts destroyed thousands of acres of citrus trees in Orange and Lake counties. Devastating those these freezes were, they opened the door to real estate development in Ocoee.

Within the past twenty years, Ocoee blossomed into the third largest community in Orange County, moving past Winter Park. Ocoee is the fastest growing of the thirteen cities that make up Orange County. Moreover, real estate development in Ocoee has led to tremendous residential options for people from all walks of life. This has included magnificent real estate options that include lovely lake front states and beautiful custom homes that have been built in a number of new developments in the city.

Despite the building boom in Ocoee, there remains prime property available for the construction of new, custom residences. Moreover, the pace of the residential real estate market, including more luxurious properties, remains very brisk. There is universal agreement amongst real estate analysts that purchasing beautiful residential real estate in Ocoee today will prove to be an outstanding investment into the future. Real estate values in Ocoee are on an incline that is not expected to recede any time soon.

Along with the prime residential real estate development in Ocoee, other construction has kept pace. For example, to ensure that the expanding number of individuals and families settling in Ocoee have access to all of the amenities of the good life, over 1,000,000 square feet of retail space has been developed in recent times, including the highly regarded West Oaks Mall.

In addition to the new residential and commercial real estate development that is sweeping through Ocoee, great care is taken to maintain the historic venues that have made this community unique through the years. Progress and tradition have blended perfectly to make Ocoee unique in all of Orange County.

In addition to the incomparable real estate opportunities available today, Ocoee offers other great benefits to people who elect to call this thriving community "home." For example, a resident of Ocoee can reach Orlando by car in a matter of minutes. Depending on where a person actually resides in Ocoee, he or she actually can be well into Orlando in a matter of less than ten minutes. Despite its very close proximity to Orlando, and despite its growth, life in Ocoee feels (and is) far removed from the hustle and bustle of major city living. Presently, Ocoee has a population of about 30,000 residents.

A long time catch phrase that has been associated with Ocoee is "The Center of Good Living." In today's world, more than at any other time in the history of Ocoee, that phrase -- "The Center of Good Living" -- is more accurate than ever before. Indeed, to say that the future looks bright for Ocoee is an understatement. The freeze that gave birth to the latest incarnation of this fantastic community is a fading memory.

Style and elegance abound in dress choices, with many dress shapes to chose from, but no more so than with the long sleeved versions. When you need to exude class, sophistication & mystique rather than glamour, exuberance or party-readiness then give the low cut, strappy styles a miss and go for longer sleeves.

The covered shoulders and hidden elbows of the long-sleeve dress have a much more subdued, subtle and toned-down appearance, ideal for smarter business events, an important family celebration or a stylish wedding or just when you need to dress to impress.

Once you've settled on leaving your shoulders undercover, the real choices present themselves because styles are varied. Like any good clothes shopper, you'll take inspiration from celebrity icons and the latest red carpet fashions in Hollywood; also do a little browsing and researching in your high street vintage clothing store and remember there are many more excellent online stores too. When selecting the long-sleeved dresses you'll soon see that all derivatives and versions make the grade. There's a certain populist, frumpy vibe about some of the sleeved dresses, and if you are not careful you could well end up with the Betty Neels or Pam Ayres look, or you might just look like you've been to the local knitting circle or the monthly village committee meeting

To remain sexy and exquisitely lady-like, let the shape and form of your arms, not the formal cut of the material, determine the shape of the sleeves. That's why dress sleeves are often made of a much lighter fabric that the main part of the dress, perhaps something as light as chiffon or lace. While it would be nice to achieve a perfect fit, it would be nearly impossible to achieve, especially off the peg, so the lightness of the fabric keeps the dress lines as natural as possible. A lovely feature of even the most fitted sleeve is the flaring some offer down towards the wrists. This adds a complementary shape to the main body and nearly always looks very glamorous.

Now look at colour and fabric pattern options. Black is black, many would say, and it's viewed as being a wardrobe staple for lots of good reasons. And popularity is rarely wrong. But when designers try to go into new territory and add patterns, most will stop at the sleeves and go for a block colour, so don't try to be any more adventurous yourself. Remember that a dress can look a lot sleeker on the rail than on the body, so look loosely once you have the dress on and try not to focus too much of your assessment on the shape of yourself as opposed to how the dress itself looks.

For a complete wardrobe selection always a place for a classic long-sleeved dress, and because they are quite rare they really can make the wearer stand out from the crowd – if you need a dress for all occasions then the long sleeved dress will rarely disappoint and you probably find you'll wear it more than any other.

About The Author: Vintage fashion is still a popular trend, with styles such as long sleeve dresses and other versions of evening wear keeping the vintage fashion specialists like http://www.rokit.co.uk/ busy. James keeps us informed of the developments in the retro clothing world.

When in the market for a home business one needs to be particularly careful and research internet home business ideas and opportunities. There are too many people out there only looking to make a quick buck. They will take your money and you will never hear from them again. You may be left only with some marginal information and no way of knowing hoe to put it to good use.

The key in home business is to go with the research. Researched internet home based businesses and opportunities have been checked into and are solid reputable plans that will not only make you money but will provide you with support and direction. They will not leave you hanging, but will point you in the right direction, walk you through the steps and even hold your hand if need be!

Research internet home business opportunities and ideas are the only way to go when starting your own business because the scams are all too prevalent in the home business world. Marketers who prey on the little guy in search for the American Dream lurk around every corner and unless you are getting quality researched internet home business ideas and opportunities you will not know who to trust.

How will you know who to trust and where to find the research on internet home business ideas and opportunities? One way is to join a free forum where real home business entrepreneurs hang out and share ideas. These forums are full of helpful information and people who are willing to give advice that is seen by the multitudes. You can be sure of getting solid advice here because it will be seen by others and if it is crappy advice they will be ruining their reputation, and in the home business world your reputation is all you have.

Find a mentor, a sponsor who is contactable and receptive to your needs. If you try to get in contact with him or her and aren't able to get a response via email or by phone this is your sign that he or she is not going to be supportive of your business. A key to success in home business is a mentor who can give you quality information. You want a mentor who will build a relationship with you and your team- not with you and your money. ;) You want to learn from the successful so that you can be successful.

The key to success is to educate yourself. Do the research on internet home business ideas and opportunities and you will find what you are looking for. Most of all- don't fall into something that sounds too good to be true. A researched internet home business idea or opportunity should have someone you can contact via email or phone, and if there is a real person who is willing to work with then you are on the right track.

Making a welcome return to the nation's wardrobes are those wear-anywhere wonders that go by the name of culottes. Are they skirts? Are they shorts? Yes, they're shorts. Now stop asking. The garment has had quite a journey over the years, and they haven't so much been in and out of fashion as having disappeared from the streets decades ago and resurfaced in a blaze of are-they-aren't-they-pants glory.

Culottes date back at least to the sixteenth century, when they would have been worn by men in combination with stockings for complete coverage. We're not talking peasants here – they were definitely restricted to the upper echelons of society, high maintenance things that they are (the clothes, of course). Take a look at a portrait of an aristocrat, president or industrial master from more or less any time up to the eighteenth century and they'll be wearing those splendid items, stopping just below the knee for the most flattering profile imaginable. Modern politicians take note.

Needless to say, women wanted a piece of the action. Imagine trying to ride a horse in the massive layered skirts of the day and you'll start to get the picture. Culottes would allow them to straddle the horse and ride as nature intended, but still effectively wear a skirt – or at least look like they were wearing a skirt. Or look like Bernie Clifton before he discovered the ostrich. Take your pick.

Culottes became so deeply associated with the upper classes that during the French Revolution the revolutionaries called themselves sans-culottes (without culottes). If there was a revolution today they would probably call themselves sans-greenwellies or sans-evoques.

In recent years, culottes have resurfaced with a wider appeal. The name has more or less been commandeered, such is the difference between the original cut and the modern interpretation, although women's culottes do largely keep the skirt-like appearance. Modern men's culottes are really just trousers that stop below the knee, and tend to be worn sans socks and sans stockings, perhaps with sandals or trainers.

The fashion for culottes, however, has been lapped up wholeheartedly by women. They really do offer the best of both worlds, a feminine skirt-like appearance, worn in the same way as a skirt, but without the restrictions of mobility that come with it. They can be found in all manner of styles and materials, but tend to be a little loose fitting, and often feature a floral or patterned design for the summer months.

The style for culottes has been in resurgence for long enough for there to be a growing vintage clothing selection available. The high street stores all stock similar types and this can lead to a little predictability, but there have been some smart looks that are no longer available which are definitely worth a try.

Culottes are just one example of a traditional garment that has been completely re-purposed for modern living, to the point where a time-travelling aristocrat would hardly recognise them, albeit partly because their head would probably have been removed.

About The Author: James Brooks can recognise a retro classic like culottes and being fashion expert in vintage clothing he spots trends early and knows which stores such as http://www.rokit.co.uk/ are likely to keep stock.

The 1950s provided us with the template for many of the things we now accept as culturally normal. There's rock'n'roll, which did more to change music consumption than anything before or since (although Simon Cowell might disagree); there's television, a pre-war technology that only really took off after the bombs stopped falling; and there's the bad boy.

Now bad boys might not sound like something to aspire to, but in reality they were all a bunch of everyday lads who liked to act bad, drive fast cars and motorbikes and get into fisticuffs when they felt they had lost face over pinball or somesuch. But transformed onto the silver screen, these typical working class guys would have the girls swooning, feinting and coming over all queer. You'll already have thought of some of the icons; James Dean, Marlon Brando and Elvis Presley sum up the image and were the real heartbreakers of their day. You could also count the Fonz off Happy Days, but he was really a caricature, which of course means he was more realistic than any of them … plus he was about 20 years too late.

Elements of the look are also fundamentally still with us. If we say jeans and a tight white T-shirt, you might wonder if style has moved on at all in the last 50 years (and you'd be ignoring the 60s and 70s completely). There are also the shades, preferably a pair of classic Ray-Bans, the winklepickers and finally the obligatory leather jacket. The jacket is probably the hardest element to pull off these days. It can more readily be associated with certain middle-aged presenters of TV motoring shows than with Hollywood icons, and you need to tread with care. The leather jacket has survived so many unbelievably tasteless eras that you need a sharp eye to spot a stylish cut, and if there is to be a pinnacle, it's probably safe to say that the LJ of the 1950s was it. If you're hitting the vintage clothing stores this weekend, beware of imitations.

The biker jacket, as it is more commonly known, has to have a zip fastener that goes up at a slight angle, starting at the middle and ending roughly where the shoulder meets the neck. This is a vital touch, and jackets with central zips need to be discarded as quickly as your 50cc moped. A couple of zip-up pockets are OK, too, and the sleeves should also zip up to just short of the elbow to accommodate a pair of biker gloves when you're driving your Renault Clio … sorry, riding your Triumph Blackbird to work.

So to get that authentic 50s heartbreaker style, you first have to look across the Atlantic to the bad boys of America, and once you've perfected the attitude (which is what mirrors were invented for), there's only one last thing to do. Get down to the chemist's and get something for the weekend: a tub of Brylcreem, because without that gravity-defying quiff, the whole edifice of 50s swagger will collapse around you. Don't say you weren't warned.

About The Author: James just adores fashion, having spent his working life with designers and in clothing shops. His current interest is with the http://www.rokit.co.uk/index.php?page_id=1000829 heartbreaker look, especially as http://www.rokit.co.uk/index.php?page_id=1000811 heartbreaker clothes are now very sought after in vintage clothing stores across the world.

When it comes to prime real estate, when it comes to finding a place to make the perfect home, location actually is only part of the battle. The lifestyle amenities that encompass the community are also an integral part of the overall attributes of the ideal location to call home.

Perhaps no other community better combines an outstanding location with access to cosmopolitan urban living with all of the wonderful attributes of serene and placid country living than does Windermere. Home to some of the most magnificent properties in Central Florida, indeed in all of the Sunshine State, Windermere is proving to be the hometown of distinction for people who appreciate the very best that life has to offer.

Windermere is conveniently located less than a half an hour drive from the thriving city of Orlando. Nestled amongst the Butler Chain of lakes, Windermere is an ideal location for people who enjoy living in a naturally scenic setting. The sand bottom lakes are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the world. Adding to the luster of the lakes are canals that meander through the area, connecting the lakes one with another. As a result, water sports and related recreational activities contribute the casual and easy lifestyle that is endemic in the area. The shear spectacular nature of the setting has made it an ideal location for people to build and buy homes.

Because of the unmatched beauty of the lakes, waterfront property is highly sought after. Indeed, some of the most exquisite real estate development presently is occurring in and around Windermere. However, although homes are being built at a solid rate in the area, the city council and other civic leaders have taken great pains to ensure that the unique charm of the area is preserved for generations yet to come. By way of example, a conscious effort has been made to ensure that major thoroughfares actually end up diverted away from the area in order to ensure the tranquility that is the hallmark and keystone of Windermere.

Even with all the development that is occurring the area, Windermere has not lost any of its historic charm. For example, downtown Windermere remains a preserved district complete with quaint shops and boutiques and incomparable bistros lining the well kept streets of the city center. When strolling about the town center at Windermere one almost feels transported back to a simpler and more idyllic time. What is most remarkable is when that individual realizes that he or she is experiencing this sense of tranquility and simplicity ... today.

Beyond the high acclaim given to the physical appearance and natural beauty of Windermere and the surrounding area, the town itself has been designated as the number one community in all of Florida to raise a family. Windermere received this distinction based upon the livability of the community as well as an outstanding school system and one of the lowest crime rates to be found anywhere in the United States.

Finally, when the need or desire arises, because Windermere is so conveniently located to Orlando and many of the top Floridian attractions, a person can be enjoying "big city life" on a moment's notice – without sacrificing the incomparable lifestyle that Windermere has to offer.

Use of audio visual equipments has become an integral part of doing business in the modern world. The wide range of technology available in the audio visual space has applications in all areas of business operations. Use of the latest audio visual technology is required to make a favorable impression on customers, business partners and even employees.

To a great extent, the success of a business depends on its ability to connect well with its clients and partners. The audio visual equipments facilitate proper communication, which is critical for both closing deals and managing clients. These equipments also find extensive use in marketing and promotion of a company's products and services. The audio visual technology allows businesses to convey information about the products and services in a manner that creates a good and lasting impression on the minds of the clients. It also helps improve sales by lending more conviction to the sales pitches.

Even in difficult situations, such as when you get a chance to make a presentation before an important prospective client without much time preparation, the audio visual equipment can come to your rescue. You can play a pre recorded presentation interspersed with brief discussions to give a convincing and comprehensive overview of your offerings. This is just one of the many situations where audio visual equipments can have an impactful role in your business.

It is a well known fact that a presentation is incomplete without a good set of slides or visuals, which are important to hold the attention of your audience. Now, imagine, without your projector none of this would be possible and you will reduced to giving a monologue, which can often get people to doze off. Similarly, good speakers and microphones are critical for seminars and conferences where participants run in to hundreds. It is beyond doubt that without the help of audio visual equipments, it will be impossible for you to make a good presentation that will help you to get noticed in short time.

With increasing globalization, video conferencing and voice conferencing have become indispensable for any business that wishes to do business in the international arena. Here again you will need quality audio visual equipments to be able to carry out these long distance virtual meetings effectively and without disruption.

Audio visual equipments play an important role in internal operations also. You need them for all kinds of trainings, meetings and presentations. They increase the effectiveness of communication several folds, which in turn translates into more efficient operations.

The modern range of audio visual equipment is being designed to match the needs and demands of today's fast paced business world. These equipments are getting sleeker, smarter and more functional.

Audio visual equipments are central to any business as they help in smooth flow of information, thoughts and knowledge. *********************** ARTICLE START ***********************

It's a strange name, petticoat. If you knew no better (for example if you were brought up in a colony populated solely by males) you might even think it's something worn on the top half of the body like other coats. But the word coat used to have a much more general meaning, namely clothing or covering, like the fur of an animal – and petit is a French word meaning small, which manifests itself in modern English as petty and petite. But tracing the word back to meaning a "small garment" hardly describes its purpose, which, for the benefit of those male colony inhabitants, is a kind of underskirt designed to add shape and structure to an outer skirt.

But even this narrow definition is not strictly true. At certain times in history the petticoat, while definitely being an undergarment, was meant to be seen in all its intricate detail. If you've ever seen a performance of the cancan, that iconic stage dance that's synonymous with Moulin Rouge decadence, it's a fair bet that you'll be very familiar with the intricate details of a petticoat. In modern times, the petticoat is fully liberated from its mere supporting role, too. It turns out that its natural, self-contained structure makes it ideal as a deliberately ornate outer garment, although modest and understated it ain't. There's probably one in every goth's closet and if a girl wants to make a splash at a party, a petticoat left free to flounce says "fun" like nothing else.

Although petticoats looked all but extinct between the wars, when women wore their skirts that followed their natural contours and petticoats gave way to simple underskirts, they were due an unexpected second coming in the 1950s. Imagine those impressive skirts and dresses made famous by the Doris Days and Marilyn Monroes of the era without the magical effects of the architectural wonders below the waistline.

Sadly for the petticoat, the renaissance was short-lived. The sixties gave us the mini skirt and in the seventies, skirts hung loosely, so once again the petticoats went back in their boxes, presumably with a little lid-sitting to make them fasten shut.

All was not lost, though. A revival of traditional proms, which have now crossed the Atlantic to form part of the British school-leaving ritual, has brought the petticoat back into use. Prom dresses seem to be ever rooted in the 1950s thanks largely to the Hollywood influence, but it remains to be seen whether the Pippa Middleton effect will open the way for more figure-hugging to take over until the next blockbuster re-revives the fifties' glamour.

The conclusion from all this is that petticoats, which have been with us for at least 400 years, will surely take more to dislodge them than the tides of fashion. Vintage clothing stores are reporting steady trading in the garments, although this doesn't say whether they're being used as outer garments or underwear; but if you choose a particularly stunning example, there's no reason why it can't make appearances in both ways. They're available in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours, so with creativity and confidence, anyone can pull off the petticoat look.

About The Author: Vintage fashion is suddenly big news. Very popular again are petticoat skirts and underskirts plus other retro styles of vintage fashion such as the dresses and knitwear stocked by retailers like http://www.rokit.co.uk/ and others. James reports on the dynamics of the vintage fashion industry.

Coffee machines come in all shapes and sizes. From small stove-top devices like the classic Italian mocha pot to fully automated bean-to-cup machines that seem to be able to make any type of coffee-based drink at the touch of a button.

Not so long ago the highest aspirations anyone in the UK had for their coffee drinks were that they were hot, wet and tasted vaguely of coffee. How things have moved on. Since the arrival in the UK of the large US coffee store chains like Starbucks and the rapid development of our home-grown brands like Costa, the quality of coffee that customers now demand is so much higher. A simple granule-based drink is not longer satisfactory, when the alternatives are so much more tasty.

The new choice of coffee drinks is huge, from lattes to mochas and cappuccinos, with added syrups of all kinds of flavours and different milk varieties to boot. Making a coffee has now almost become a science for which baristas now need serious training to accomplish.

Having paid good money for a takeaway coffee and seen prices rises, largely due to the customers happiness to pay and also lead by soaring coffee prices on the commodity markets, many people have now decided to try and make these tasty coffee drinks at home, and that naturally means they are suddenly very interested in coffee machines.

Around 10 years ago, not many households in the UK even had a coffee machine, let alone one of today's fancy machines. Some would have taken the first step and opted for a simple filter machine. With these a paper filter held a dose of ground coffee (everyone bought pre-ground coffee as that was all that was available) over which heated water was trickled, with the coffee itself dropping through into a clear glass jug sitting on a hot plate. If the ground coffee was very fresh and the coffee was drunk almost immediately, then the taste was fairly acceptable. However not everyone realised the importance of fresh coffee so often stale grinds were used and, worse still, the coffee was left to stew on the hot plate for hours. Even this bitter, almost burnt coffee was happily served by hotels and restaurants and customers didn't know any better. They just drank the disgusting coffee, thinking that was simply how things were.

Now standards are much higher and the freshly made taste you can experience in Starbucks or Costa can only be achieved using an espresso-capable machine using very fresh coffee. That now means you have to grind your own coffee beans at home or opt for one of the many pod-based devices that use individually sealed portions of pre-ground coffee to make single drinks. This way of making coffee is safe, reliable but expensive and limited in terms of variation.

The only way to go for real coffee enthusiasts is to buy a larger and more expensive espresso maker that features it's own boiler or even two boilers. Dual boiler machines contain two sources of water and steam. The steam is super-heated and used for frothing or texturing milk, while a cooler boiler or a heat-exchanger mechanism is used to pass water through the filter head under pressure to make the espresso component.

As with all things, the better quality coffee machines come at a price and expect to pay between 200 and 1200 pounds for a capable home coffee machine.

About The Author: There is a huge choice of coffee machines available now and James is familiar with the benefits of each type. He provides coffee machine reviews and coffee stories on http://www.coolcoffee.co.uk/ and other publications.

Try and look at a picture of a Hawaiian shirt without the opening strains of "Surfin' USA" twanging into your mind. Or maybe, depending on your mood, the image might throw up something mellower, "California Girls" or "God Only Knows". Yes, the Californians of the 60s and 70s sure knew how to pull off the Hawaiian shirt, and it wasn't just the beach-lovers who took to it; it became something of a summer staple. Odd, really, that a type of clothing that has one US state in its actual name should throw up an image of another one. But then again, who associates their wellies with a 19th century duke?

Although we in Europe might think of the Hawaiian shirt as traditional dress in the Pacific state that gives it its name, the Hawaiian shirt's invention actually happened in living memory. It came into being in the 1930s, just in time for the beginnings of commercial flight, mass tourism and a certain romance being attached to the laid back way of life that Hawaii evoked in the popular imagination. The entrepreneur behind the shirt, Ellery Chun, had a hit on his hands and sold out as soon as he created the first batch. The local newspaper described the shirt as the "aloha shirt" and Chun trademarked it as its official name.

Although the originals were steeped in traditional Polynesian design, the look took on a life of its own, with the basic single-pocketed, short-sleeved shirt providing a canvas for all manner of abstract and figurative designs. Although the floral print was an ever-popular reference to the original idea, it wasn't long before the repeating pattern played host to images of palm trees, sea shells, cars, surfers, beach scenes or whatever took the designer's fancy (as long as it was vaguely linked to the beach). One interesting feature of a quality Hawaiian shirt is that much attention is paid to making sure the pattern on the pocket matches the pattern underneath as precisely as possible. It's details like this that have helped to create a collectible vintage clothing market in the garments, with some changing hands for several hundred pounds.

One interesting fact about the Hawaiian shirt that might be lost to non-natives of the islands is that although they are strictly informal throughout most of the world, they are considered perfectly normal business attire in their homeland. Hawaii's climate is really not suited to the stuffy suits and ties of the western business person or office worker, so something lighter is much more practicable. They do tend to be slightly more muted than the types of shirt your average surfer would wear, and the pattern is often printed on the inside to further tone down the appearance, but formal they are. Suits and ties are certainly not unheard of in Hawaii, but they are reserved for the most formal occasions.

So clear a couple of hangers in your wardrobe for a taste of the Pacific. You can go loud and garish or subdued and tasteful while maintaining an authentic Hawaiian look. And don't forget - if you're shopping for a vintage original, you might stumble upon a valuable rarity.

Playsuit. Was there ever a word in the annals of fashion history that conjures up such raunchy images of debauchery and mischief? OK, catsuit would probably count. And jump suit? Let's not go there. But the reality is actually quite tame and potentially rather chic, as far as the mainstream market is concerned.

Playsuits are usually quite loose-fitting items of clothing, ideal for a summer walk or an evening at a laid-back bar. And worn correctly they can be a lot more flattering than you might imagine. With so many different styles to choose from, there's a style for every body and every occasion, from a brave boob tube top and daring shorts combination to the sort of thing your granny could get away with. The range of materials is wide too, from an almost negligée style chiffon to a more substantial fabric that will hold its shape whatever you do in it. With playsuits, you're limited only by the location and your sense of decorum.

The jump suit is an altogether different proposition. There's some variation in the cuts, and the tops come in the full range of sleeved, sleeveless and halter neck flavours; but overall the jump suit is generally a lot more sober and covering, with trousers going at least down to the ankles and usually to the ground. Again, though, they are not as unflattering as they might sound. A key point is the waist line. A tucked-in blouse and trousers would create a good deal of rucking and folding without haute couture tailoring, whereas the jump suit bypasses this pressure point completely, while still maintaining the feminine profile. A top overhanging the trousers solves the creasing problem, but then it's much more difficult to create the feminine curves.

So on the face of it, a sleek, well fitting jump suit and a selection of playsuits should be parts of every woman's formal and informal wardrobe, but too many of us tend to stick to the same old dresses, skirts, trousers, vests, tees and blouses year after year. It's hard to tell why. Perhaps the playsuit's name makes it seem a little frivolous are risqué? Maybe the images conjured up by the phrase "jump suit" are influenced by a baggy, unflattering mindset that would suddenly fall into place if imagined halfway up a mountain (or, to credit the originators of the garment, jumping out of a plane).

The trick is to borrow from history. Sure, jump suits and play suits have provided us with more than their fair share of fashion disasters. But there have also been triumphs, too. Clear your mind of all this, and picture yourself in something that's effortlessly flattering, has no awkward pinches and unwanted angles, and will do away with the hours in front of the mirror trying to complement top and bottom halves. Now get yourself to an online vintage clothing store and have a flick through some of the playsuits and jumpsuits that have been runaway successes over the decades. The perfect one-piece is out there waiting for you. And you won't need to climb mountains to find it.

Jeans have got themselves a reputation for being a kind of everyman wear, demonstrating as they do the working class status of those who originally wore them. But really, it is the humble pair of dungarees that is the real working class hero. These garments were utilitarian and hard wearing enough to be worn on the factory floor, in the mechanic's workshop, down a mine or on the field, and since they were rather baggy they could be slipped over other clothing to beat the winter chill. And unlike jeans, which have managed to shuffle into polite society (with the help of some designer labels and breathtaking price tags), dungarees remain on the fringes - which suits those who wear them as a fashion statement perfectly well.

In the 1980s and 1990s, it would not have been completety unexpected to come across a young man wearing dungarees in any street in the UK. The early eighties had its dungaree moments with bands like Dexy's Midnight Runners providing a polar opposite sartorial approach to the slick and tailored look favoured by the likes of Spandeau Ballet or the moneyed casual styling of Duran Duran and their ilk. However it was the latter looks that prevailed and even Dexy's had folded up their dungarees before long.

But in the late 1980s, another phenomenon arrived that would re-introduce the dungaree to a generation of young men still seething at being too young for their last appearance. It was a trippy, electro-hippy style of music with dozens of genres and sub-genres, but which could be loosely called house music (for the purposes of a clothing article, anyway). Although house music did have its stylish, fashion-obsessed branches, there were also the happy-go-lucky interpretations, with hedonism and happy hip hop at its roots. Its fans spent plenty of time in the clubs of Ibiza, in festival fields and in abandoned warehouses indulging in illegal raves; and boy, did these guys know how to pull off the dungaree look. They would come in every colour under the mirror ball, with patterns, stripes, tie-dye and occasionally plain blue denim, and could even be worn knee-length to reflect the sunnier climes their wearers' heads were at.

So as we can see, dungarees started out as something worn by the docker, factory worker and manual labourer, and ended up being associated with smiley faces and narcotic excess. Now that's progress for you! It can only be a matter of time before these versatile garments make their way back onto the high street, so now is the moment to get yourself dungareed up. You'll struggle to find a pair in the mainstream shops, but check out some vintage clothing stores (online and offline) and you're sure to find a few gems from the 80s, 90s or even some classic dungas whose previous owners have wielded a spanner with intent to mend. Wear them over a tee shirt or jersey for a traditional look, and try them with sandals for something altogether more laid back. Just don't try to get in Le Swank restaurant.

OK, I misquote the venerable Mr Holly Johnson there by a letter or two, but this image of the American man's way of dress doesn't really seem to apply any more. Jeans in particular are the item of clothing that have most been associated with USA popular culture, from rock'n'roll to the hippy movement to Hell's Angels and beyond, but this has changed a little over the past decade or two. Ask people today to define male Americana fashion and they're as likely to list baseball caps, cargo pants, slacker wear, football shirts, basketball shirts and trainers before they get to the good old blue jeans (sadly, chinos would barely merit a mention).

So is this the picture of the way the American man dresses? It would appear to be the case. Jeans are just one of the tools at the disposal of anyone trying to assert a transatlantic identity. It probably all started in the sharp-dressing 1980s, when it seems that anyone who didn't want to be a stockbroker wanted to be a crime fighter in Miami (sartorially, at least; and at a push they'd take the cars and the boats). This was the first time in popular culture history that you could be cool and rebellious without resorting to denim, and when the big denim brands themselves – or at least the savvy ones – started branching out into other areas to survive and compete. In fact, it's hard to believe now but it was quite difficult to find a pair of jeans in any colour other than blue until the mid-1980s.

In the 1990s it got even worse, if anything, for jeans, as they were roundly rejected by a whole generation who saw jeans as something their parents' generation wore. Did you really want to dress like an off duty prime minister or president?

By the end of the 90s, though the jean had got back into the male wardrobe, this time with designer labels and more pockets, but back all the same. The style brought with it more American influence, though, including the baseball cap (which has faded a little of late) and the smart but causal look made available by the likes of Gap, American Apparel and Abercrombie & Fitch. This time also saw the seeds of the geeky movement being sown, a look which embraces ill-fitting clothes, "so bad it's good" haircuts and even zero prescription spectacles to achieve the swotty, nerdy type who always seems to get the girl in the movies.

This is all very well, but does it in any way clarify what the meaning of Americana is when it comes to male fashion? Searching the vintage clothing stores would give you thousands of options because almost anything goes if you're willing to move through time. But perhaps therein lies the answer. If you're looking for a genuine stateside look, pick an era and stick to it. Because the garments will set off a kind of mental chain reaction that will immediately scream the word America! And just in case there's the risk that your look might be interpreted as, say, Canadian, you can always go for the nuclear option … and sport some stars and stripes.
